Finally guys after all the sneak peeks… my Cassandra Cain and Mia Mizoguchi Short Story! CASS AND MAPS!

I’ve been posting it on my instagram all this month and last week on my twitter but i had totally forgotten to post it in here, for 2 months there wasn’t a day i wasn’t thinking on them and i would have loved with all my heart to do something even longer but… building up a story, thinking over and over the layouts, drawing and coloring with this level of detail all on my own is really hard and i can’t but feel guilty of taking this long for just this 7 pages, but as little that is, with all my heart i just really hope you like them :’) , I tried to put many little easter eggs and references but i will mention some at the end to not spoil your reading.

Okay, so some of the esster eggs:

PAGE 1: that Adam West Batman & Robin climbing a building shot which actually came to me from Bruno Redondo’s cover of Nightwing actually , and the rest of the panels hugely inspired by Batman The Animated Series!

PAGE 2: a portrait of Niccolai Tapes( The Mad Monk) on his early years and at his side Matt Wagner himself! , then a newspaper with a Batman based on his first appearances and a reference to the events from Batman vs the Mad Monk by Matt Wagner, and then ofc all the room filled with a bunch of objects taken exactly from the same pages of Matt when he draw The Monk’s Castle on the same book. and finally the book of Dracula for the same reason ;) , all this layout was inspired by one of the most iconic pages from American Pax by Frank Quitely

PAGE 3: all the vampires were based physically on Voldermort’s Death Eaters! but also the girl in black is Dala! Mad Monk’s more loyal acolyte which in the book she always desired to become a vampire but never could! , but from left to right, Barty Crocuh Jr. , Dala as Bellatrix, Peter Pettigrew, The Monk was “Voldemort” , then Snape, Lucius, Narcissa and Fenrir Greyback, and that last panel was a BLADE reference 🙂‍↕️🙌

PAGE 4: this whole Cass yellow panels with speedlines were supposed to represent the same kind of panels that Damion Scott drew when Cass was moving really fast in her Batgirl run, the whole layout was based on a page of Jamal Campbell from his Green Arrow run

PAGE 5: shot referencing the killing joke joker and batgirl cover, you can see a “Red sun” mode on the bat-flashlight apart from the Ultra Violet setting, them. Maps bites the Monk as she used to do a couple times in Gotham Academy, and Cass final attack is a reference to one of the moves she does in her 2000s run to stop the heart beats of a thug , and those circles were inspired by David Aja’s work on his Iron Fist and run!

PAGE 6: the building on the background purposely resembles the Bat ears, the GCPD have the uniforms from BTAS and you can see also Detective Montoya and Jack Ryder interviewing her :), Maps little hearts are taken from Karl Kerschl who used to do them on Gotham Academy a couple times, and finally the Grapple Gun reference from all the time Maps mentioned it on Gotham Academy 🙂‍↕️,ohh and the box of the gift was also the same feom Shadow of the Batgirl when Barbara gives her suit to Cass!

i’ve just been thinking about because being from kentucky- horses and horse racing are a Big Deal here. but of course, horse racing is like. a multi-million dollar industry so there’s no way anyone in district 12 actually owns any horses. (however, the idea of district people actually taking care of the horses the rich people own…i’m think about it.)

but like you said, i could definitely see it being a capitol activity! almost like a status symbol, owning an expensive racehorse and getting dressed up and drinking all day watching the races.

you’re probably right that by the trilogy, betting on horse racing is less popular than the hunger games. but i still think it could be a thing! and i think pre-first rebellion it might have been a go-to activity for the rich people!

Nolan's POV

"Another day, another filming session-" Is what Nolan thought. He wasn't too hyped about this video that's for sure, but Jimmy *insisted* on making another "1-100" video since it did so well before.

Nolan did enjoy his job, though. He was just bored. Jimmy didn't exactly let the crew do anything, so there was nothing much for him to do during filming, other than monitor the capsules.

Today was the first day of the video. Nolan, Mack, and Karl were all walking around, asking how different challengers felt about this video. From across the warehouse, Mack was currently talking to contestant 25. As Nolan briefly glance over, he spotted you.

You were a generally pretty person, but Nolan was immediately awestruck. The way your H/C hair blew beneath the AC, the way your eyes shimmered under the florescent lights, Nolan seemed to feel more and more attracted to you.

But your looks weren't all, it was also the way you smiled. Your tone of voice. The way you'd answer each of Macks questions caught him in a trance. You were funny. Silly, even. You seemed to be having the time of your life and Nolan was here for it, staring endlessly at your capsule.

Karl suddenly walked up behind Nolan, giggling as he speaks. "Dude what are you doing-" Karl raises his eyebrow as Nolan immediately bolted his head in Karl's direction.

"Holy crap Karl-" Nolan groans, embarrassed. "you scared me-" Nolan then almost immediately glances back at your capsule, which Mack had now left. Karl shook Nolan in attempt to pay attention to their conversation.

"Nolan are you crushing on 25-?" He laughs, as Nolan's cheeks slowly grew hot.

"What? Pfft- no- I'm just- looking-" Nolan attempted to excuse Karl from asking anything else, but, failed.

"Go talk to her man!" Karl playfully punches Nolan in the shoulder.

"Leave me alone dude-" Nolan laughs with a groan as Karl grins before walking to a different row of people.

After a few more hours of Nolan coming and leaving the warehouse to check on contestants (cough cough, you), until finally building up the courage to talk to you.

He stepped towards your door, opening his mouth to say something, so you could turn to face him, but Jimmy suddenly announced the first challenge.

In a panic, Nolan just dashed away without you noticing. He silently cursed under his breath, as the first challenge went on.

After the challenge was over, you were luckily still in. Since it was almost night, Nolan decided to wait till tomorrow to talk to you, since you would probably be here for a long while...

The next day, Nolan and Karl came to the warehouse alongside Jimmy who was working on the next challenge. Nolan and Karl decided to do a race on who could talk to half of the group first.

"I can deal with 1-50 if you wa-" Karl began to suggest, until getting interrupted by Nolan. "Nope! No don't even worry about it. I'll do 1-50, you do 51-100"

Karl was hesitant before agreeing, yelling "I'm winning Nolan!!!" rushing towards the other side. Nolan immediately went to your capsule, knocking on the door. He wanted to, no, needed, to talk to you.

You perk up from whatever you were doing, walking over to the glass door with a smile. "Oh hi Nolan"

Nolan almost stopped working for a second, his voice failing him. "Oh hey-!" He let out a fake, shaky laugh before restoring himself. "Uh- how are you doing-?"

You raise your eyebrow about how suspicious he was being, but still smile. "Great-! I'm really glad I'm here like, so many people I get to meet, y'know?" You sat down on your bed, Nolan coming into the room.

"Good- good- uhm-" He hesitates before asking. "Anyone that you feel is like a threat to your game?"

You hesitate, before answering "32 is a bit of a threat towards me specifically but, y'know" You shrug. "Nobody's really hated me so far so yayyy"

Nolan gently smiles in relief. "Awesome! I'm gonna go talk to other people now I guess-" He regretted saying that, but he couldn't just let Karl win the race.

"Alright, it was nice talking to you Nolan" You smile. "It's a nice change of pace from Mack, so... Feel free to drop by whenever you can!"

Nolan's heart fluttered at that. Why were you so nice to him?

Y/N's POV

You were extremely happy about your interaction with Nolan. He had always been your favorite member, and it's been your dream to be on a video, especially with him.

You layed back down on your bed, as giddy as ever. Were you smiling? Maybe. Did someone notice? Yep.

24, your closest ally here, just woke up, and could notice your change in demeanor.

"Uh... What's going on-" Y/B/F said, rubbing their eye from sleep.

You look over at them through the glass, smiling. "Nothin" You attempted being casual. You were a grown woman, acting like your crush at school just asked you to the dance.

"Uh huh." Y/B/F rolled their eyes. "Sure."

"Fine.. Fine... Come closer to the glass." You sigh, giving in. Y/B/F moved their ear to the class as you whispered "Nolan talked to me"

Y/B/F pulled their ear away, looking at you unimpressed. "Wow. Nolan talked to you on a MRBEAST VIDEO. DUDE."

You winced at their change of voice. "Look I dont know-! I just-" You dreamily sigh, sinking back on the bed. "It felt special... Y'know?"

Nolan's POV

The next challenge started later that day, Nolan not being there for it since he was busy. But the entire time, he was worried you would get out. Even just thinking about you made him goofily smile and lose track of time, so he couldn't afford never seeing you again without saying goodbye.

Even though you met yesterday, he could already see a future, a life, with you. You were everything he could ever ask for, and he didn't even know your real name.

That evening, he went back to the warehouse, stepping in and seeing so many capsules gone from the previous challenge. He immediately panicked. Did you leave?! Were you voted out?! He then saw Mack and Karl step down from the stage.

"Hey Nolan" Mack says, giving Nolan a quick high five handshake thing (a/n: IM SORRY I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IT'S CALLED).

Nolan nods. "Hi- uh- what'd I miss?"

Karl then spoke up. "Jimmy made sure a lot of people were voted out today for like, editing reasons, but I'm pretty sure your girlfriend is still here."

Nolan immediately perked up, not even responding when he ran to 25. He skidded up to the capsule, before noticing, you were miserable. A wash of worry goes over his face as he knocks on your door.

"Hey 25" He tries to smile, but saw how sad you looked. "What's... What's going on..?"

"Oh, Nolan, hi" 25 weakly smiled, as Nolan walked in and sat next to her.

"What's wrong?" He frowns, unaware of placing a hand on her shoulder which made you blush.

"24, uh, they got out..." You sigh. Nolan looked at her confused.

"Oh uhm.. Why is that such a big deal-?" He asked, worrying he could offend you.

"They were my best friend here I guess, and I'm just... Kinda alone now..." You sigh, putting your face in your knees.

"Well, uh.." He looks around the room, looking for something he could do to help you. "I'm still- here- for you-" He mutters. You let out a watery laugh, looking up at him with a smile.

"Well thanks Nolan"

He smiles back, you looking deep into each others eyes for what felt like forever. Suddenly, Karl shouted from the entrance door "NOLANNN! COME ON"

Nolan jumped, taking his hand off your shoulder. "I should go" He sighs, stepping towards the door.

"Alright... See you tomorrow Nolan"

"See you tomorrow 25" He smiles.

"Wait uh-" You stand up and grab his wrist. "Call me Y/N."

Nolan's cheeks turned pink at that as he smile. "I- okay- see you tomorrow Y/N".

im not saying that the original trilogy was bad. it was great and i loved it a lot!! i think it still holds up to today. i love reading analysis and meta about it. i just feel like we can stop pretending that this book was good and not full of ret-cons. like reading the book felt like "who is this man pretending to be my alcoholic husband????" and if you like the book that's fine, that's alr. hell i even liked some of the ret-cons!!! me and @districtunrest were talking about this too, this idea that people seem to keep repeating that suzanne collins writes out of contempt for her own readers. like every time a book comes out people go "oh its because she was mad everyone DIDNT GET IT the first time" and i just ... i don't think that's why she is writing books haha. i think she's writing books because she's a writer.

i also think the idea that everyone who read the hunger games is an idiot with no critical reading ability is ... kind of a reach? because like what are we all on here talking about all the time if not having conversations and analyzing the books and discussing the broader themes? sure there are some people who didn't read it and think about the political commentary but 1) that's okay, it is a story and 2) there are a lot of people who DID, so i'm getting a bit tired of the whole "you guys didn't get it" narrative considering that. well. a lot of people did.

The Miranda brainrot is real so have some random thoughts that haunt me may or may not make it to ao3 at some point:

AU where MC and Miranda are married and long for children of their own, but neither is able to. Enter Miri the Madwoman stealing a child (Rose) and proudly presenting it to MC à la "Merry Christmas" or some shit. MC is horrified, ofc she´s always known her wife is a bit...different bish is crazy af, but that just takes the fucking cake like WTF MIRI. But MC can´t help but notice how Rose is the spitting image of her wife, she´s just perfect, so beautiful...NO, get your shit together MC what are you doing ffs. YOUR WIFE´S KIDNAPPED A KID, KEEP THAT DANGER TO SOCIETY ON A LEASH PLS AND TY.

MC is the 5th Lord but instead of ending up as yet another (unwanted) "child" of Miranda, Crazy Birb Momma takes her as wife cause even Crazy Birb Mommas get lonely at some point. MC is present at meetings ofc, acting as Miranda´s little shadow while also keeping their "kids" somewhat in check. (Something Miranda finds strangely...stimulating.) Ever since MC has joined their fucked up family, Karl actually enjoys those meetings because he gets to witness Alci turn green with envy whenever Miranda´s attention is on MC. Which happens a lot because MC knows what she´s doing. MC and Karl are partners in crime, so ofc she´s got Karl´s back here. She´s got a much better pokerface though, so nobody ever assumes she´s doing all that stuff just to rile Lady Super-Sized Bish up. Oh and she´s secretly plotting her wife´s demise btw. With her best friend Karl, ofc. (This is very much MC x Miranda, but yall know my girl MC loves playing hard to get.)

MC is on vacation, touring through Europe. At some point, she finds herself in Romania (duh). Only problem: her car´s nav system is a useless mf, leading her right into the middle of fucking nowhe-oh wait, nvm. There´s tire prints, so that means there´s civilization. Thank fuck. Or not. This village is...strange. The people are strange. Dressed as if they stepped straight outta some black-and-white film. The...accommodations (if one can even call them that) match the overall feel of being plunged back into the 1900s. Srsly, what´s up with tha-AH! Fucking shit. Where tf did that Lady come from?? And why is she dressed like some saint?...And why´s she still staring? Honestly - her eyes are up here, not on her ti...belly? (For once, she wishes someone would stare at her tits cause this shit´s getting creepier by the second.) There´s also some crazy old lady who keeps inviting her for tea. Or soup. Or cake. Or to chant in unholy unison as we make our sacrifice and await the light at the end because there´s glory in life and in death. Wait what.

oh god where do i begin. first i wanna say thank you karl for proving the dsmp would be nothing without the fans. im 99% sure he got the idea of time traveling from clambuoyance’s comic and peoples theories at the time. i feel like karl took a pretty interesting approach to time travel with it being less of a back to the future thing and more of the DBZ androids route. i loved the tragedy of it all, the most careless and unloyal character being put to the test to protect his friends and later on, entire reality. the horror elements were always super needed, dsmp at its core is a horror story to be so it really hit the marks for what i wanted. i will say the memory loss thing gets an “eh” from me because it was never really super fleshed out, karl randomly disappeared for like 4 months from the public and by the time he came back, dsmp had already lost most of its hype w covid restrictions lifting. all that time in between caught c!karl a lot of “badly written” claims till he forgot cQ was his fiance. i also want to point out karl always had c!karl having these tweaker moments or just randomly saying creepy/weird stuff that just works so well for his character in the long run. everybody go watch november 2020 dsmp streams

c!karl will always be such a cool character to me. karl’s aesthetic translated so well into the weirdness tftsmp had, it gave me those “alive in wonderland” episodes animes would randomly have back in the day. i loved how c!karl was still flirting with randoms and making promises he couldn’t keep and ended up dying most of the time because of it, it feels so hopeless and scary. time being treated like a threat is very cool because it’s such an important part of the dsmp meta. as someone who gets memory fog and hallucinations and fucks up majorly every 2-3 weeks, c!karl felt really relatable (at least in hs). every single day i wonder how tftsmp 2 would’ve looked like, how the comic would probably take the dsmp to a whole nother level of storytelling, how c!karls story would unfold and ofc how ksq would end up. it’s honestly so sad seeing how much money karl put into this shit only for it to fall through. you can see how much he loved this idea in all his new projects. he got too ambitious in a server full of people with 0 artistic vision

"Trans people can be heterosexual, but they can't be straight" is a stupid fucking take because not only does it misgender transhets, it's also just not the way language works.

The argument tends to be that "straight" refers to having a "normative" or "socially acceptable" sexuality, which heterosexuality tends to be seen as, but isn't in the case of transhet people.

It's true that "straight" has historically been used that way. For example, Transgender Warriors (1996) includes the line "The trans population is a reminder that not everyone who is heterosexual is straight!" (page 92). At this point, straight had a meaning that was distinct from heterosexual, with straight meaning "not queer" and heterosexual meaning "attracted to the opposite gender."

However, straight (in reference to sexuality) and heterosexual have both had a lot of different meanings over time, and it's pretty stupid to pick one at random and go yes, this is the true correct meaning.

The terms "heterosexual" and "homosexual" appear in a letter by Karl Maria Kertbeny in 1869. Homosexual refers to erotic acts between two men or two women, and heterosexual refers to erotic acts between women and men. But Kertbeny still considered heterosexuals to be degenerates, as they engaged in nonprocreative sexual acts. (The Invention of Heterosexuality, pg. 33)

In 1892, Dr. James G. Kiernan used the word "heterosexual" in a Chicago medical journal. In this case, heterosexual referred to people who felt "inclination to both sexes." The hetero- prefix didn't refer to being attracted to a different gender than one's own, but to being attracted to two different genders. (The Invention of Heterosexuality, pg. 21)

Then, in 1893, Richard von Krafft-Ebing published Psychopathia Sexualis, where he used the term "hetero-sexual" to refer to sexual desire or "sexual love" between men and women, and is used to mean a "normal" sexuality. (The Invention of Heterosexuality, pg. 22)

In 1901, a medical dictionary defined "heterosexuality" as "Abnormal or perverted appetite toward the opposite sex." (The American illustrated medical dictionary, pg. 300)

In 1923, Merriam Webster defined "heterosexuality" as "morbid sexual passion for one of the opposite sex." Then, in 1934, the definition was changed to "manifestation of sexual passion for one of the opposite sex." (Merriam Webster's New International Dictionary, pg. xcii; Webster's New International Dictionary Second Edition, pg. xcvi

For much of the early history of the term "heterosexual," it was used interchangeably with the term "normal-sexual." (Straight: The Surprisingly Short History of Heterosexuality, pg. 14)

The use of "straight" in reference to sexual orientation was defined in the 1941 book Sex Variants "To go ‘straight’ is to cease homosexual practices and to indulge--usually to re-indulge--in heterosexuality." It didn't refer to people whose innate sexual orientation was to be attracted to a different gender than their own, it referred to "ex-gays," or gay people who had recloseted themselves. (Origin of Everything, around 2:56)

From there, "straight" evolved to mean non-queer (as we saw in the Transgender Warriors quote), and now it's pretty much synonymous with heterosexual, being attracted to a different gender/the other binary gender from your own.*

*this isn't a perfect definition ofc because no sexuality can be defined perfectly, but it's better than "opposite gender"

So, over time, straight has meant "ex-gay," recloseted gay, non-queer, and heterosexual (as we know it today), and heterosexual has meant degenerate attraction between women and men, bisexuality as we know it today, abnormal/perverted attraction to the opposite sex, normal sexuality, and finally, attraction to a different gender/other binary gender.

And with all those meanings, it's kind of ridiculous to insist transhets are heterosexual but not straight based on just one of the many ways each word has been used. I could just as easily say that transhets who identified as gay before transitioning are straight because straight has been used to mean "ex-gay," and cishets who have never identified as gay aren't straight. Or that cis people attracted exclusively to the opposite binary gender aren't heterosexual, because heterosexual has been used to mean attraction to two different genders.

All that aside, both "heterosexual" and "straight" came into use with cis as the assumed default, without making the distinction between gender identity and sexual orientation that we have today. Transhets have no obligation to adhere to the definitions of either of those terms that operate under the assumption that everyone is cis.

And again- saying that transhets aren't straight is misgendering us. That should be the only thing that matters, but since clearly it doesn't, maybe it'll matter that enforcing "normative (cis) sexuality" as a universal definition for straight is bullshit.

omg hii, and yes, Karlheinz is a doctor in the academy lol, he just change his image to look more young and not so… vampire king, and yeess i do have some headcanons, as much for the original story as for my story "deadly eyes".

I have the idea that Karl acts as a doctor to monitor yui from another point of view, since since he wants to monitor his experiment closely without being recognized he wears an unpredictable disguise, because he could easily be the principal or a teacher but he is a doctor, this option makes sense since he will not run into his children very often (unless they go out of class to take naps like ayato). and clearly he makes changes in time to come up with other means, as his experiment involves his children, I think he must make small changes in his routines so that they have more interactions with yui, I feel he must be very idealistic thinking that every action he modifies will lead to the result he seeks but even if he changes actions, he cannot change feelings. deep shit.

but if it was something more silly, I like the idea that Karl makes changes but they don't affect anyone and his way of retaliating for these failed attempts is to give some substance of doubtful origin to random human students, or to control some randon person from the windows to entertain himself. I also like to think that he hides from the diaboys bc he is afraid they recognize him, like the typical scene where Karl would walk throght the hallways and see one of his sons in the distance, so he just stays quiet looking at a wall pretending to be part of the wall :3

that occurs to me within the canon history, but within my history, "deadly eyes", I think things wouldnt be so different, but i do think Karl knows more than the diaboys about the past of my OCs, for example; he knows the substances that kirari consumes as well as the reasons why mako comes into the sakamaki manor, so bc he know everything, Karl only makes small situations between kirari or mako with his son's, with the goal that they meet more frequently or make them get along in classes on purpose. i like the idea of him thinking he is acting like a cupid thingy, ofc he fails terrible at that.

I am having further thoughts about german Remus!

Born and raised in Chemnitz (obviously, duh.) but moved to Berlin to go to Uni and get out of Saxony - though he did miss his home and parents a lot!

He got the communism from his grandmother who is also concerningly romanticising the DDR - something Remus starts heavily arguing with her about when he's a teen, but he can never quite shake the homey feeling he gets around old East Germany paraphernalia.

After moving to Berlin he can't quite find the place he'd hoped for and still feels like he's somewhat on the side lines. So after finishing his bachelor he decides to get his masters degree in Manchester. He isn't sure how well he will fare in the UK but he just wants a change - and a place where he can start fresh and more confidently (he doesn't 😅🫠)!

He has a very faint german accent in English that he is inappropriately self-conscious about, sleeps with his edition of Das Kapital tucked under his arm at night and shys away from all confrontation - UNLESS IT'S ABOUT KARL. Then he will argue you against the wall, calmly but determined (that's how Sirius really falls for him, he thinks that's so hot).
