The revisionist history of these live action remakes needs to be studied. The amount of people who are saying the PJO movies and the M Night Shyamalan movie that shall not be named are better than the current live action shows is absurd. People immediately shut down at the prospect of changes to the plot, get mad at exposition, then get mad when they don’t pick up on story lines and characterization. Then they say that the objectively terrible cash grab movies are better than the new shows where creators obviously love the source material and want to pay homage to it. And don’t get me started on the terrible treatment both casts have received, ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN! People need to grow up. Im not saying you have to like the shows but saying theyre worse than those movies is wild.

Genre of show I’ve been watching recently:
“Hey you see that kid who is very cool and also very talented”
“Yeah why?”
“Yeah they’re like 12”
“OH WOW”
“Want to go traumatise them?”
“… yeah absolutely”

Albert Kim has joined Disney+’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ team as an executive producer. (x)
He most recently served as the showrunner for Netflix’s ‘Avatar the Last Airbender’. He is stepping down from that position to pursue more opportunities, like executive producing on Percy Jackson, but he will continue to work as an executive producer on Avatar as well.

Percy Jackson was a flawed but heartfelt adaptation that made changes in order to expand on the themes and character arcs of the story.
Avatar is a skin deep, soulless simulacrum that excels in the visuals but completely fails in adapting the characters and their journey.

Maybe I'm just hot off the disappointment that was Disney+ PJO but personally I love the ATLA live action!!
Yes I know there's things missed, but they've kept the feelings, essence, and so much of the original show!! We got references even if we didn't get the full storylines! Pipinpaddleopsicophilis!!! Cabbages!!! SECRET TUNNEL SONG!!!!!
I'm impressed they managed to fit the inventor AND Jet AND secret tunnel all into OMASHU and I didn't hate it!!! They made it fit and did it quite well! Bumi was a bit difficult to watch but I think that's just my personal preference.
I think some of the lines were cheesy, sure, but also I watched the katara v pakku fight- IMMEDIATELY went and watched the animated version and BRO THEY ALMOST GOT IT EXACT!!!! THAT IS SOME DEDICATION!!!!!
And CASTING?! Perfect! All of them, Aang is great, Sokka, Katara, Zuko, Azula, even Iroh !!
My one and only actual problem with the show is that they're showing everything in a very chronological order, and I believe we needed more nuance to Iroh and his son, we know Iroh and Zuko love each other, I think it didn't need to be as explicitly stated this first season at least.
Everything looks great, costumes, sets, cgi but that's mainly agreed upon. As a designer I HAVE TO APPRECIATE the level of detail they have managed to extract and extrapolate from the original show!
But yeah. Hands down, maybe I had low expectations but the occasional cringey power-of-friendship line does nothing to temper my happiness right now.

I don't really have much faith in the ATLA live action show. I'm in it for the casting (especially Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Iroh), but I don't think the show will go far. This is in comparison to what I've seen at similar points pre-release from both the PJO TV show and the ATLA live action.
At this point before release for PJO, I had seen teasers, and minor stills. I had seen support from the original author. I had seen actual acting. We're about 2 months away from ATLA live action and I've seen that one teaser with shots and hardly any acting at all. It's just shots of nice cinematography, and good effects don't make for a good show.
