Natasha Trace is used to people making assumptions about her. She's a woman in a male-dominated industry. Beyond that she is an elite pilot in a male-dominated industry and judgment is just a part of her life. She's managed it well, all things considering, and learned to surround herself with people who respect her for her talents and intelligence rather than demean her for her sex. Of course Bagman is always good for a disparaging comment or two, but Phoenix has caught him defending her to men who dare to question her abilities when he thinks she is out of earshot, so she knows where his true feelings lie.
Ignoring all the nasty assumptions made about her: sleeping with superiors, hired for optics, among other things, there are some rumors that are just plain funny. Take for example, her personal life. Fighter pilots are notorious for Daddy issues and a lack of settling down (i.e the Roosters and Mavericks of the world). Phoenix herself has never really caught the 'marriage and babies' bug that most other women her age experience, and she's fine with that. Setting down isn't something she particularly avoids, just something that doesn't fit in her life at the moment. It isn't to say it never will though.
There are rumors she is a lesbian, which while are untrue, she doesn't necessary consider insulting. Finding love with a woman, man or any other sexual orientation or preference isn't something that someone should ever be judged for and Phoenix herself would never criticize anyone else's penchants. No, what she finds eye rolling is that a strong woman must be lesbian. That because she flies planes, and wears bulky helmets that mess up her hair, that because she can play football in the sand and not care if she is sweaty or smelly she has to "bat for a certain team." It's silly, archaic and most importantly wrong. Natasha's hobbies or abilities don't dictate her love life and when she finds love, with whomever she does find it with, she looks forward to those rumors finally settling.
But then she will always have her family gossip.
Despite what some might think, Natasha doesn't have any unresolved 'Daddy Issues'. Her father Matthew is a normal dad. Stern in his desire to raise children that worked to do good and be respectful, but also kind in his teachings and loving in his affections. When Nat had shared she wanted to be a pilot, Matthew encouraged it wholeheartedly and he and Phoenix's mother Rosa offered all the support they could to help their daughter reach her dream. Every milestone or commendation, Natasha's parents were and still are always in attendance, both smiling brightly at not just the achievements of their child, but her happiness too.
Rumors say her father is Hispanic (his family was from England actually, where as Nat's mother is Mexican). They say he works on cars or carpentry, or something with his hands. They say he's a man's man, someone who would take a daughter and push her into boy things, but it's the furthest from the truth. Matthew is a quiet man, preferring a book or listening to soft rock music while his wife chatters endlessly in the kitchen. He teaches at a high school in California; English because that was the only opening (though his passion was always history), and he even advises a few of the clubs on campus. He knows nothing about planes, certainly nothing about F-18s or any other fighter jets, and he looked just as confused about Natasha's sudden desire to fly as Nat's mother did. But, like any good parent would, he rolled with. He bought her books about flying when she asked. He parked them close to the airport one day when she talked about watching take offs and landings, and he hugged her the hardest on the day she was accepted into the Naval Academy.
As the years passed, Natasha's father has picked up a few things about his daughter's job. He's learned a few terms, makes sure to always know where she is based out of or what carrier she is on, and he's very particular about knowing the name of the WSO assigned to her. Matthew Trace might not be what the rumors say he is, he can't rebuild a car from scratch or fix a broken pipe (he usually ends up with a concussion from hitting his head against the sink counter too many times) but he is a great father. And though he didn't push her into flying, he and Natasha's mother always made sure their daughter knew that they were with her in the skies; ready to watch her triumphs and catch her just in case she falls.
Beyond the rumors of her father, there is also this belief that Natasha should have an infinite amount of older brothers. She is expected to have been a tom boy growing up, following on little legs after brothers who were taller, faster, and stronger; all of them eventually steering her into sports and planes. The first time Nat and Bob shared their family history, the WSO looked at her funny when she shared about Anna.
"Only one sister?" Bob questioned, a furrow gracing his face.
"Yup" Phoenix nodded, "one older sister, works for an insurance company in Sacramento."
The man turned back to his drink, "huh" he mused.
"What?" Nat couldn't help feeling on the wrong foot. She didn't think Bob was judging her but she couldn't help the sinking feeling that settled in her stomach from his clear perplexity, "what is it?"
"I don't know" he shrugged before meeting her gaze, "I always assumed you had a bunch of older brothers."
He wasn't the only one. The first time Rooster met her family he looked actively surprised when a gaggle of men didn't come bursting from the house. She tried to tell him many times she only had a sister but Bradley still seemed to think she had somehow misled him, expecting Nat to be the influence of someone else. She had been angry for a moment, annoyed at how many people felt she couldn't just love to fly on her own accord and not pushed by outside force.
Soon enough she learned to embrace it, along with all the other stereotypes and conjecture labeled to her.
When she arrives to a fellow pilots wedding in a tight dress and full makeup and hair, stunning the room silent and earning surprised glances from every man and woman, Natasha keeps her head high and walks over to the other Daggers, remembering the hours she spent as a teen watching make-up tutorials because even 'Tom-Boys' like to look pretty.
When she lands a particularly rough tackle in Dogfight football and Yale grumbles about how her older brothers must be so proud; Phoenix laughs as she thinks of the afternoons with Anna, the two of them playing dress up and dolls and having all the fun in the world.
When she changes Halo's tire for her one night and the other woman pouts that she wishes her father taught her this lesson, Nat smiles good-naturally and remembers how her father had waited 2 hours for AAA one time because he attempted to change a tire and lost the lug nuts in the brush on the side of the road.
When she catches Payback reading one of the books in her father's curriculum on the beach one day, she doesn't even hesitate to bring up some of Matthew Trace's discussion points. Reuben chats with her, clearly impressed, and assumes that when she explains how her house is filled with books, it must be from Nat's mother. She doesn't bother correcting him.
And when her family arrives for the Dagger BBQ hosted by Penny and Mav after they all survive the mission, Natasha smirks at the surprised faces of her teammates when they take in her glasses wearing, sweater-covered father, her loud and boisterous mother and her singular female sibling. The rumor mill clearly having never been so wrong.
But that's life isn't it, especially for someone like Natasha Trace. Assumptions are always going to be made and Phoenix is always going to love to prove them wrong.

something I find really interesting about hannibal’s character is how he uses people’s expectations and ingrained assumptions to hide himself. no one suspects he’s a serial killer because he doesn’t present as one. he’s elegant and refined and isn’t cruel to animals. he’s highly sophisticated, a polyglot and has a deep admiration for beauty and life. he appreciates saving lives just as much as he appreciates ending them. in fact, this particular aspect of his character is partly why it takes will the entirety of s1 to accept hannibal’s true nature. will saw hannibal save abigail and accompany her to the hospital in apéritif and he also saw hannibal save a man’s life by performing emergency surgery and taking over the operation at the end of sorbet.

this moment in particular is interesting because of how it’s framed to make hannibal look almost godly from will’s point of view:
1) hannibal is positioned immediately higher than will due to being in the ambulance, meaning will is looking up at hannibal, while hannibal is looking down on him
2) hannibal is standing under a bright light as he works to save this guy’s life, while will is standing in almost complete darkness
3) the usual orchestral, classical music is playing in the background, emphasising the apparent “holiness” of the act and framing hannibal as some sort of saviour
the impact of this scene is even more potent when considering the context of the rest of the episode, since will has already stated that the ripper is not the type to save people or enact mercy on anyone. his style of murders doesn’t suggest this characteristic whatsoever, and although will’s assessment is correct, hannibal’s personality and overall demeanour doesn’t match what we’d imagine a person like that might look like. I think will is confronted by this as well, because even if hannibal’s surgical skill means he matches the ripper’s profile (which makes him a valid suspect) his actions contradict will’s image of the ripper, while simultaneously affirming it:

it’s difficult to reconcile these facets of hannibal’s character. it’s inherently contradictory and defies our cultural expectations. nonetheless, hannibal’s inclination to save people is sometimes more insidious than his murders. he doesn’t save people out of altruism, he does it because he thinks he’s superior and enjoys deciding outcomes. he doesn’t view himself as insane, he views himself as god. this is most aptly explored in takiawase, through the acupuncturist/beekeeper killer. here we see a murderer who confesses that she killed a man to quiet his mind, and tells jack that it’s beautiful that she managed to protect him and her other patients. this is one side of hannibal’s character, the one who’s a doctor and therapist and sees death as a cure from disease, even if the ‘disease’ itself is literally just discourtesy. it’s ultimately an act of power.
and yet in this same episode he flips a coin and saves bella on a whim. this of course is framed to others as an act of mercy, however the reality is he took bella’s power away in an act disguised as kindness. once again, he hides in plain sight. this is the other side of his character, and it’s just as deadly.
it’s still about power.

but we don’t associate acts of mercy with monstrosity. when hannibal comforts abigail in trou normand we question whether he’s as bad as we think, because what negative connotations are tied to paternal tenderness? we miss that hannibal is fostering dependency, that he literally looks dead in the eyes as he holds her, and that he blatantly just told us that he’s using abigail to manipulate will:

hannibal often does this actually. he either directly says what he’s doing or suggests that he’s the culprit (often through cannibal puns, as we know) but no one ever interprets him correctly because doing so would contradict the image he’s carefully constructed for himself. it would cause too much dissonance.
and what’s fascinating is that on a subtextual level this is largely what the show is about. the story is an exploration of societal roles and the struggle to fit into stiff categorisation and expectations. will parallels hannibal in this regard because he’s desperately trying to repress his identity by taking on certain roles. and the audience is lured by this persona the same way the characters are lured by hannibal because will defies our understanding of certain tropes. on a genre level, will assumes the detective archetype, meaning we are primed to think he’s inherently good. when we see him say he wants to save people we believe him, even though he often only does so to prove to himself that he’s a good person. will is indeed righteous, a characteristic we often view positively, however he’s violent, wrathful and actively enjoys murder due to how powerful it makes him feel. he’s not dissimilar to hannibal, we just don’t see this straight away because doing so would disrupt our understanding of good and evil.

megumi hums. “glasses or blindfold, today?”

at that, megumi actually laughs and satoru slides even further down on the couch, arms still crossed.
“that was once,” he says, glaring at the both of you.

“twice.”
“and yet you still can’t decide on a name,” you tut, megumi is still flipping through the book, trying to hide his smile.

to answer your other question—it does seem unlikely for the baby to inherit satoru’s techniques (considering he’s the first in a century) but maybe the genetics are just that strong.
i wish i knew more about the actual statistics of cursed techniques and how often they’re passed down/how many people receive a technique from their parents. based on what megumi says (“how many people have you met that can actually see curses?”) it’s probably more likely that their baby has no cursed energy at all.
it would be fun to play around with their techniques though. and to imagine satoru teaching another poor child how to manage cursed energy.

I found this on Tumblr and wanted to get your thoughts on it. So, that quote was from The Acolyte that the head witch lady says to Sol, and I knew that some would reference Anakin and Order 66 because of that line. But, I wasn't expecting them to mention that scene with Qui-Gonn.
Also, I don't know why some would compare Qui-Gonn to Sol cause Sol was overly emotional. He was impulsive, insistant on Osha to be his padawan, and wasn't composed. Qui-Gonn was more put together, and he spoke with reason even when he was denied by the council. I just can't wrap my head around this. The jedi aren't supposed to be emotionless. They just can't let their emotions mess with their judgment, right? So, why make Sol like this?
I have no idea what the "choice" thing is about lol, I'm not sure I want to know given everything I already know about this show.
I feel like I've made my thoughts about Acolyte fairly clear at this point. It's not shocking that there's a direct reference to Order 66 that condemns the Jedi and blames them for their own genocide. Headland has made herself EXTREMELY clear in basically every interview I've seen of hers where she discusses the Jedi and her ultimate thesis about them in this story. This is why I boycotted it and will never try to watch it even after it ends. Nothing in this show is meant for fans like me because I am not going to find it compelling or interesting or enjoyable to watch. I'm willing to bet every single person who loves Acolyte and thinks it's incredible probably hated the Obi-Wan Kenobi show (a show that was intentionally trying to feel like the Prequels and refuses to place the blame on the Jedi instead of Anakin himself), so whatever. I got mine.
As for Sol and Qui-Gon, they're not basing him on CANON Qui-Gon, they're basing him on FANON Qui-Gon. They obviously think that it's canon Qui-Gon, but it's not. Sol is based on Filoni's Qui-Gon, the Enlightened One, the man who was the embodiment of What a Jedi Should Be specifically because he "defied the Council" and was labeled a "maverick" as a result. People have taken the fact that Qui-Gon questions the Council somewhat regularly and decided this means that Qui-Gon like... understood what being a Jedi meant BETTER than the rest of the Council and that the Council's version of being a Jedi involves suppressing/repressing your emotions, so therefore Qui-Gon doesn't do that.
Some of this is also based on the fact that Qui-Gon believes Anakin was the Chosen One and the Council seems a little skeptical about that, but Qui-Gon is obviously right about this and so the assumption is that Qui-Gon is more connected to the Force or more clued in to its will than the rest of the Council.
This takes the whole "the point of the Prequels is that the Jedi were corrupt" interpretation and the conflict seen between Qui-Gon and the Council and makes some assumptions about Qui-Gon's character as a result. If the Jedi Council represents everything WRONG with the Jedi in this era, and the Council is in opposition to Qui-Gon, then naturally Qui-Gon must be everything RIGHT with the Jedi.
So when you take all of this together, despite the fact that Qui-Gon in TPM is actually pretty reserved himself, it leads to this interpretation of Qui-Gon as someone who just trusts his emotions above everything else and feels them more than any other Jedi does, which leads us to Sol, who is more visibly emotional. Since I haven't watched the show, I can't speak very well to how he's intended to come across, whether those emotions are meant to make us believe he's more enlightened than anybody else or not. I do know that the actor himself has said he explicitly based his character on Qui-Gon, so take from that what you will I guess.
Headland's views on the Jedi would impact her views on the Council as well, and a LOT of Jedi critical fans tend to laud Qui-Gon as some kind of enlightened messiah, so it doesn't shock me that she views Qui-Gon this way herself and made a character in her show that sort-of emulates her interpretation of Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon is VERY important for fans who interpret the Prequels as being about the Jedi's failure, so since Headland is writing a story about the beginning of the Jedi's downfall, it makes sense that she'd include a character based on someone she interprets as the last remnant of "what the Jedi should've been."

Yves doesn't necessarily "initiate" sex per se, it's more like he would present an opportunity for you to grab. Whether you decide to take it or not, it's up to you and he would respect whatever choice you made. Yves will merely present signs that your proposal to fuck is very likely to be accepted. In the end, you're mostly still doing the initiation by asking him if it's a "yes" to sex.
His reaction depends on your baseline, if you're not very interested in having sex in the first place, your passiveness is already predicted and it confirms the accuracy of his algorithms, and his logic. He wouldn't spend too much time investigating why you said no, because he already knew the reasons. Yves would then move on to either test his other, countless hypotheses out, or just enjoy your company in the moment.
It also could be that you're just dense and missed the silent signs. Then, he would outright ask you if you wanted to make love with him. Yves will never word it as a demand, it's always a suggestion and never a request.
However, if he knew that you're the type to be caught dead before declining the delicious offer for sex, it would both excite and worry him at the same time. He's curious and intrigued, elated that there is something new about you he discovered. An anomaly in his prediction models, which doesn't occur very often and it's a marvel to witness.
Worried, because whenever you defy his expectations, it usually means you're suffering some sort of disease or under distress.
Yves would comb through everything that happened to you on that day and a few days prior. Checking what you saw on the Internet, hearing what other people told you, so on and so forth. Even sneakily taking a biological sample out of you without your knowledge. Yves knows how to draw a vial of clean blood undetected.
Once he is sure that he found the reason(s), he would perform two experiments on you:
1. He would remove the stimuli that caused your rejection or passiveness towards fornication, and suggest the idea of doing it with you again. Of course, he would do this at a much later date.
2. Yves would replicate the exact environment and sequence of events that he thought was the grounds for this inconsistency, and present an opportunity for you to fuck him again. You will experience a sense of Deja Vu, but ultimately more or less put you in the same headspace as before.
It goes without saying, he will NOT be replicating the cause if it's due to an illness, injury or a period of severe emotional turmoil. It pains Yves to make assumptions during the scientific process, but he would rather have some inaccurate data than have you hurt.
If he is wrong with his hypothesis AND sickness being the reason is absolutely ruled out, Yves would be even more thrilled. It's a new set of data for him to hunt down!
He would be running experiments on you as if you're a lab rat, and you wouldn't even notice.
Yves is cocky enough to think he could "read your mind" and determine the reason why you refused, he wouldn't ask you at all because that may interfere with his findings, introducing bias into his work and into your mind.

i’ve always been a grover underwood stan, but the show is developing him in such a beautiful way. aryan is breathing new life into him that is so wonderful to watch. i can totally see how this young satyr was entrusted as protector of not one but TWO forbidden children. he is clever and brave kind, and absolutely the heart of the trio.
i feel like i’ve always seen grover as a jumpy satyr who pushes his fears aside in order to fulfill his duties for pan and to help his friends however he can, and we see his development towards greatness over the course of the series. aryan right off the bat has grover making tough decisions that could damage his relationships and status- getting percy expelled to save him and defying dionysus’s orders to not tell percy that his mom is still alive.
i love how annabeth immediately tries to brag about grover being her protector first, it kind of bugged me in the book how they kept their previous bond secret, but i LOVE how both percy and annabeth cherish grover as not just their protector but as their friend.
throughout the quest grover is constantly trying to keep these two dumbasses (extremely affectionate) in line and the quest on course, trying the consensus song to make them get along, whipping them into shape after medusa’s, immediately accepting to practically be ares’s hostage while percabeth go on their side quest. not to mention he seems to be the one to secure their modes of transportation.
then during his “hostage” situation with ares, he is not living up to the role of the meek hippie satyr that ares expects, instead he turns his assumptions on his head and bravely and subtlety interrogates the god of war
i absolutely love who aryan is making grover, and he’s turning an already loved character into a BELOVED character

So, of all the things we saw in the trailer, I have to say, the tag line is what has me the most intrigued.
The Cosmic Order?
This is the first we’ve heard of anything like that.
With Book Six being titled Stars, I've been thinking a lot about how often the subject of destiny is mentioned in the show.

Callum’s spell book gives us the word association between the Stars and destiny.
But what, if anything, has destiny got to do with the so called Cosmic Order?
Kosmo's speech in the recent trailer gives some hints as to what this order might concern.
Worlds one and myriad.
Why do the Celestial Elves wear those blindfolds? Are they capable of true insight into other timelines or realities? Are the blindfolds functional or merely aesthetic?

Are we dealing with a multiverse versus (for want of a better term) some sort of Sacred Timeline?
If that is the case, where does Aaravos fall in all of this?
And what might any of this have to do with the current cast?

The character most associated with questions of destiny is obviously Callum. He wars with himself regarding following a set path versus choosing his own fate during his dark magic coma. Rejecting this apparent destiny is part of the spark that allows him the understand primal magic. If the show had ended in arc one, this would have been the resolution of this issue, however, with arc two, we see the subject of destiny arise once more.
During his possession by Aaravos, the subject of destiny comes up once again, with Aaravos blithely dismissing any agency Callum might actually have. While you could assume this is a reference to Aaravos making assumptions based on Callum’s character, given the recent references to the Cosmic Order, an intriguing possibility presents itself.
Does Aaravos, a Startouch elf, have some kind of divine knowledge of Callum’s future?
Or a likely future?

If destiny truly is currently a true and real thing in the world of the Dragon Prince, is is possible to challenge this destiny?
To defy it?
Rayla challenges this assumed fate both to Callum, but also in her own mind, in Chasing Shadows.

She truly believes Callum is in control of his fate, his destiny. When she tells him to choose another path, she clearly believes he is capable of doing so.
Will this conviction be the drive Callum needs to challenge a destiny others decree is written?

Where do I think this is going?
One of the things I really enjoy about The Dragon Prince is how it keeps me guessing. Sure, we do get set up and pay off, but the Mystery of Aaravos is aplty named. We still don't really know much, if anything, about his motives and goals.
In thinking about this Cosmic Order, in conjunction with Aaravos disdain for those he deems arrogant, I began this whole thought process thinking Aaravos wanted to challenge singular destiny/fate, but looking at his belief the inevitability of Callum’s fate, I’m not so sure any more. Did Aaravos try to defy his supposed fate and suffer his downfall as a result?
Thankfully, we have just over a week until we find out more, but one thing I very much am expecting is for the subject of fate and destiny to become a major plot point over the final two seasons.

The casting for 4 Minutes, the trailer and the subsequent discourse in the fandom has really reminded me of how far the BL sphere has to go in terms of working past stereotypes and bias. (I'll note here that I actually don't know how much of this has gone on here on Tumblr, I'm mostly talking about what I've seen on Twitter and Tiktok).
From the start it weirded me out to see people say stuff like 'obviously it's JesBible' as soon as the casting was announced. Because like - based on WHAT? Regardless of what turns out to be the case (or what we've seen from the trailer, now), at that point the ONLY thing to go on was stereotypes. Jes is taller and a bit bigger so therefore 'obviously' he's the top, right?
Gross. (And oh, I really need the BL world to give me a show with a big masculine bottom and a shorter top just to see some of these small minds struggle to wrap around the concept, lol.)
Then there's been the absolute obsession with the topic of 'omg is it JesBible or BibleJes' ever since the announcement. I expected it from the fandom, but the extent that it's gone on and then also hearing it from the media as well this week was so off-putting. It's reminded me that people really don't like it when they aren't given immediate confirmation of their biases and pre-defined boxes, and they don't like not being given answers, either.
I'll pause here to say that oh, I so appreciate how both Bible and Jes have handled this. They've both made it clear that it doesn't matter, that it's not relevant. Bible even said at one point that 'BibleJes or JesBible doesn't matter, you should think more about whether it's GreatTyme or TymeGreat', haha. (Also, I just want to say that I agree with what one of my friends on Twitter said - maybe, just maybe, 4 Minutes will be the show where we start rejecting this rigid defining of pairs based on who's supposed to be 'the top' or 'the bottom'? Because personally I think BibleJes and GreatTyme sound a lot better than the other way around, lol.)
Another thing I've seen come up is 'oh it's weird to see Bible being a bottom', 'it's weird to see Bible being submissive'.
Girl, what?
He's an actor. Why would he not play a variety of roles! I never see people say 'oh, it's weird to see ____ play a villain', or at least it isn't something that's been said very often, so why is this coming up here? Again: stereotypes (and a bit of fetishization, probably).
As for submissive - one day people will realize that where body parts are going has nothing to do with submission and the world will be a happier place 😭
This is why I would really like to see BLs incorporate something that I haven't seen much of: switching. Both in terms of changing up what role the actors are playing, but also just straight up acknowledging that not all queer couples stick to rigid top/bottom roles! Of course some do, but some don't, and representation of that might help dispel some of this nonsense.
There's also always a faint whiff of bottom shaming that goes on in these conversations, a view that being a bottom is 'lesser' or 'weaker' and it really bothers me. It's insulting to the actors giving their all to the roles but it's also really insulting to all the queer men out there who are being viewed that way according to sexual preferences. (And that's without even touching on the heavy, heavy whiff of sexism and misogyny attached to all of this, because I'm sure we've all seen people refer to the bottom as 'the wife', etc).
Honestly, it just deepens my admiration for Jes and Bible in taking this on. Jes has already gotten a question about how his lakorn viewers will see him now and I think he fielded that admirably, talking about how he's an actor and he hopes/thinks they'll realize that. There's also a bit of an assumption that lakorn is a 'step up' from BL so I love to see him defying that. He's been very firm on handling the media, too - he had an interview yesterday and TWICE had to shoot them down on the 'BibleJes or JesBible' nonsense.
And of course, Bible, my baby - oh, I admire him in doing this. So many BL acting pairs stick to rigid roles and here he is, in only his second role, being willing to defy those and challenge how the fandom perceives him and take on all the weirdness and hate that he's inevitably going to get through at him. I've already seen some people expressing dismay and saying they can't/don't want to see him in this sort of role, and I'm sure he had to be aware that he was opening himself up to that. I'm so proud that he did it anyway and I hope those people reconsider their notions around top/bottom and their expectation that actors stay in neat little boxes.
And all the above is without even touching on all the delays and the history with 4 Minutes, which already made it a bit messy in the first place.
ANYWAY. I don't really know how to wrap this up, since I'm partly just venting here to get this off my chest. But I really hope that this opens up some conversations in the BL space and creates some change for the better.

i think it's interesting what cutter's love of westerns represents, when wolf 359 has so much focus on the ways people narrativize their lives. eiffel, hera, minkowski, and lovelace all feel, in some way, doomed to be the people they are. minkowski playing the role of commander vs. actually being in command. eiffel's whole pop culture... everything, and the way he projects those tropes and archetypes to avoid real connection or responsibility. lovelace feeling like she's playing the role of isabel lovelace vs. actually being herself. hera, whose character arc centers on defying her programming. there's a repeated message in the show about being "more than what you were made to be."
cutter's love of westerns: "i think i'd live in a western, if i had the choice. [...] they're about how people are connected to a bigger picture. no matter who they are, or what little quirks they have, there's an order to how things work out." vs. his idea of a perfect humanity: "a new kind of human, ones who are exactly what we need them to be, and do exactly what we tell them to do."
so much of goddard operates on this type of obedience and willingness to play a role. hilbert assumes new identities until only his work remains. kepler becomes his job. "let's go be monsters." riemann taunts jacobi based on the same assumption: "what, you think just because you're trying to be a good guy, things are going to go your way?"
i think the genius of wolf 359's character writing is that, thematically, paradoxically, they can't be characters as much as they are people who perceive themselves as characters. cutter loses because his worldview ultimately cannot account for humanity, in all its unpredictability and contradictions. the characters in wolf 359 are not doomed by the narrative; they're saved by the acceptance there is no narrative, no bigger picture they have to play out some role in. they're just people - infinitely capable of change, defying expectations, making choices.

As someone who likes to think of transgender as a much more broad term than a lot of people nowadays do(more along the lines of how it was pre or early 2000s iirc where it often encompassed everyone from binary, gets every surgery possible trans people to crossdressers and cis GNC people) I think butch trans women should feel welcomed(not obligated, but welcomed if they feel it fits them) to identify as transmasc and vice versa. This is also influenced by me having a broad personal definition of transmasc/transfemme where it can be summed up as "someone who is or was/is or was assumed to be (gender) but engages in a gender/presentation not typical to social assumptions of (gender)" which I know is a lot more broad than most people like to think, but to me feels more broadly encompassing and accurate and would allow for more shared experiences and communities to exist.
Like to me if a cis woman butch chooses to define herself as Transmasc, I'll say welcome, let's share experiences of what it's like to be masculine in a way that doesn't make cisheteropatriarcy happy, and I extend the same hand to butch transfemmes and women cause I know they often face similar things of being women or other genders distant from manhood that defy societal expectations of femininity from those who aren't men.
To me, even though I am a man I have a lot in common with masculine women whether they are cis or trans because my masculinity stands in the face of those who see my body with an expectation of femininity the same as anyone who sees certain genders as an expectation of femininity.
I know a lot of the ways I view things aren't necessarily the popular usage or understanding, but I stand by the idea that broader terminology makes it easier to find those with similar experiences and form community
I literally didn't ever once in my entire life think of "butch" as something I as a trans woman could apply to myself. Not that I wasn't allowed, but just thinking of it as solidly cis lesbian culture or whatever. Finding butch transfems has really made me see myself more out there, even if I refrain from reblogging because the way I describe my gender has the potential to upset people if I associated them with it.
Gatekeeping serves no actual purpose beyond TERF conspiracy theories about (x) invading (y) spaces. Be who you are and welcome others when they're on the same path as you without interrogating them about their genitals.

Holler: An Appalachian Apocalypse (Savage Worlds), by Pinnacle Entertainment.
In Holler, the mysterious “Big Boys” own the mines, mills, and logging operations. They rule over every aspect of their workers’ lives—subjecting them to extraordinary dangers on the job and crushing oppression outside of it. The Big Boys have transformed the land of the Holler—rivers bubble with strange chemicals, strip-mined mountains crumble into valleys, and the air is choked with a toxic fog known as the Blight. The flora and fauna of the Holler grow more monstrous by the day. Demons of every description lurk in the forests. Mutant cryptids haunt villages with their strange cries and appetites. Vengeful haints leer from abandoned shacks and lonely cliffs. No one is coming to save the people of Holler.
The goal of the resistance is to build a coalition, to bring together diverse factions—humble workers, roustabouts, mountain men, dirt track racers, cultists, and even strange creatures of myth and legend to raze the works of the Big Boys and drive them from the Holler forever. This sounds a little more grim and gritty, with cryptids, toxic fog and demons lurking in the forest. It uses the Savage Worlds system, so you’ll have to pick up the codebook to play with it, but the setting is very very fleshed out. This is a little less Wild West and a little more Appalachia, and the setting is a bit more on the horror side than most of the other games on this list, but there’s certainly a lot of wildness out there for you to fight!
TROUPE, by TheOriginalCockatrice.
A game about travel, discovery, and outsiderness, a combination of the best of Old-School and Story Games. Complete with 6 Jobs, including the Ghelf, the Hedge, and the Ogra, and includes a system for holistically coming up with a character from scratch.
The designer describes this game as an exploration of the road; the odd and unknown of the wild, what it means to belong, and what it means to be on the outside. You’re not heroes - you’re entertainers, jokers, healers and bards. There isn’t exactly magic, but there is myth and legend. This is a great game for folks who want plenty of challenges that exist outside of combat. Each character playbook comes with a balance of mechanical elements and descriptive options, and you’ll be rolling 2d6 plus your stat in order to determine success.
I’m not sure how much of a Western this is, but the designer actually hacked this game for BXLLET, a game about gunslingers in the apocalypse, in the zine Bxllet Clip, so it might be worth checking out!

Flash Characters and the Myers-Briggs Personality Test

Observations:
Linda and Captain Cold have the same personality type--both are ISTJs. So apparently they share more than just their love of hockey. I also feel like Len got more introverted as he got older; younger Len might have ended up with a different personality.
Lisa and Iris have the same personality type as well, with both being ENFJs. This...makes a lot of sense, actually.
The Entertainer (ESFP) personality type seems to be the most common: Wally, Joan, Owen, and Evan all share it.
Is anyone really surprised that Digger and Alvin have the same personality type? (Axel shares the ESTP personality too.)
Hartley and Barry sharing a personality type took me by surprise. Both are INFJs.
The Rogues are shockingly diverse in terms of personality. Of the 11 Rogues, there are 9 separate personality types (Digger and Axel are both ESTPs; Evan and Owen are both ESFPs).
Evan was, by far, the hardest character to come up with a result that felt right, and I'm still not entirely convinced that my final result for him is correct. Part of the problem is that Morrison Evan is so much more personable than, say, Geoff Johns' Evan.
Other characters who were difficult: Weather Wizard (I couldn't believe the result I got for him, but I ran him three different times and got the same result every time, so I guess he must be an INFP) and Barry Allen (I had a hard time balancing his analytical nature with his compassion and love for comics, and it was difficult to figure out how creative he is).

Hey there, sunshine(s) and moonlight(s)! Do you want to rock your readers' worlds with mind-boggling plot twists? Well, lucky for you, I recently met a mind reader in my basement and they told me you want to know this. Buckle up, because we're about to begin a journey into the abyss. Kidding! We are going to the Kingdom of Twistano-Turnano; narratives that'll leave jaws on the floor and minds on some walls. Strap in, grab your favorite snacks and let's get this party started. (I believe that one was too much, right? Coz’ who’s got time for any parties? Or am I the only one missing out?)

What Makes a Good Plot Twist?
Let's kick things off with the basics. A plot twist isn't just about throwing in a random curveball– oh no, it's about shaking up the very fabric of your story. A meaningful plot twist should be a seismic shift in the audience's perception, whether it's through an unexpected event, a shocking revelation, or a philosophical awakening. We're talking external, internal, and philosophical shifts that make the audiences question everything they thought they knew. It's about changing your audience's reality.
The Three Types of Shifts: External, Internal, and Philosophical
The external shift– think unexpected deaths, hidden treasures, and jaw-dropping identity reveals. These twists are all about rearranging plot elements in ways that leave readers gasping for air.
The internal shift– this one's all about messing with your audience's emotions. One minute they're feeling all warm and fuzzy, and the next, BAM! You hit 'em with an event that leaves them shaken to the core. Just make sure to keep things clear, or you'll have a bunch of confused readers scratching their heads.
The philosophical shift– the granddaddy of all plot twists. This one's all about making your audience question their beliefs and perceptions. You take 'em from thinking they've got it all figured out to realize that maybe, just maybe, they've been wrong all along.
To really knock your readers' socks off, you gotta apply all three shifts. That's right, no half-measures here. Using just one or missing one entirely is just going to confuse the shit out of your audiences. Trust me, you don't wanna do that.
What makes a plot twist good?
Shock Value: First things first, a good plot twist needs to pack a punch. We're talking about leaving your readers reeling, jaws on the floor, and minds blown. If it doesn't make 'em gasp, it ain't worth it. The key is to not settle for the first twist that comes to mind. Dig deep, get creative, and find a way to really knock your readers' socks off.
Believability: Sure, we love a good surprise, but it's gotta make sense, ya know? You can't just say that the human we have been following around is a dog disguised as a pizza! Nope, we ain't gone believe that boy. Keep it real. Actually, the real(er) the better. Foreshadowing is your best friend. Drop hints, plant seeds, and lay the groundwork for your twist early on. That way, when it finally hits, it'll feel like a natural progression of the story. (Maybe show me a barking human to make me go along with the pizza dog twist.)
Impact on Characters AND Plot: A truly great plot twist doesn't just shake things up for the sake of it. It needs to have real consequences, affecting not only the characters but the entire storyline. Don't just focus on the shock factor – think about how your twist will affect your characters and your plot. Will it send them spiraling into chaos? Will it force them to confront their deepest fears? Make it count.
Variety in Tropes: Cliched tropes are good but if you can manage to twist it up, that's even better. Try to give us something we've never seen before. Surprise us, delight us, and keep us guessing 'til the very end. But don't be afraid to break the mold. Sure, some tropes are tried and true, but the best twists are the ones that defy expectations. Surprise your readers, challenge their assumptions, and leave 'em begging for more.
Timing: Timing is literally everything. You need to build up to the right moment for that twist like a mastermind supervillain. Keep your readers on their toes. Drop breadcrumbs along the way, build up the tension, ratchet up the suspense, and then hit 'em with that (do-do do-do) twist right when they least expect it. You gotta know exactly when to drop that grenade. Trust me, it'll be worth the wait.
Plot Twist Techniques:
Breadcrumbs: The classic "how did I not see this coming" twist. Make 'em scratch their heads and wonder, "How did I miss that?" Lay the groundwork for your twist by dropping subtle hints and clues throughout your story. It's all about planting those breadcrumbs and watching your readers play Sherlock Holmes.
Misdirection: The good ol' red herring. Lead your readers down one path, only to yank the rug out from under them at the last minute. Get 'em emotionally invested in a particular outcome, then flip the script and watch 'em squirm. Mix this with the breadcrumbs and you have a beautiful pie.
The False Win: Picture this – your characters are riding high, victory is in sight, and then BAM! You hit 'em with the ultimate plot twist: it's not over yet. Give 'em a false sense of comfort, then snatch it away like a cruel twist of fate. 
The Unprovoked: Ever seen a plot twist  that leaves you scratching your head and wondering, "Where did that come from?" That's the unprovoked twist. It happens out of nowhere, catching everyone off guard and leaving 'em reeling. It's unexpected, it's unpredictable, and it's oh-so deliciously twisty.
Types of Twists: The classics
Identity Reveal: Remember the "I am your father" moment? Yes. There's nothing quite like the shock of discovering that a character's true identity isn't what it seems. Whether it's a long-lost twin or a secret agent in disguise, identity reveals never fail to leave readers gasping for air. Mix it up to make it newer and you have an even tastier sandwich.
Motive Reveal: Ever wondered why that one seemingly innocent character was acting so shady? Well, it's time for a motive reveal – the moment when all becomes clear and the true intentions behind a character's actions are laid bare. It's like peeling back layers of an onion, only way more dramatic. (Plot twist: This entire post has been written so you will buy my book, The Sinner and The Scarred from Amazon! Background Reveal: Behind every great character is a great backstory. Well, these backstories can also be great plot twists. (What? The hero's love interest is the villain's child. WHAT? The hero's love interest is the villain! WHAT? THE HERO IS DATING BOTH THE VILLAIN AND THEIR CHILD!!) From dark secrets to hidden traumas, background reveals add depth and complexity to your story.
Character Deaths: Sometimes, the only way to shake things up is by "killing your darlings." Actually, whether it's a beloved hero sacrificing themselves for the greater good or a villain meeting their untimely demise, character deaths are guaranteed to leave readers in shock and awe. Especially when done right. (Set the mood for a fun wedding. Then kill someone at the wedding. Kill the bride. Or the groom. Kill 'em both. Have them kill each other!)
Destruction of Setting or Important Elements: Say goodbye to the status quo, because we're about to shake things up with a little destruction. Whether it's a beloved setting crumbling to the ground or a crucial element of the story being obliterated, destruction twists add a sense of urgency and chaos to your narrative. (Burn your hero's house down. Extra points if their family was still inside. Minus points if their dog was in there, though.)
Timeline Shift: A timeline shift can turn your story on its head, sending characters hurtling through time and space or revealing shocking truths about the past, present, and future. (It will be a weird way to find out you’re adopted, you know?)
Surprising Events in General: Sometimes, you just gotta throw caution to the wind and hit your readers with something completely unexpected. From random acts of kindness to bizarre coincidences, surprising events add an element of unpredictability to your story that'll keep readers guessing until the very end. 
Special Ability Reveal: The moment when a character discovers they've got powers beyond their wildest dreams, things start getting out of hand. Whether it's flying, telekinesis, or the ability to talk to animals, special ability reveals add a touch of magic and wonder to your story.
Do remember when it comes to plot twists, the sky's the limit. But placement is key. Whether it's smack dab in the middle of your story or right at the climax, the timing of your twist can make or break its impact. 
Now, let's touch on what NOT to do. Forced twists? No, thank you. Unbelievable plot developments? Hard pass. And let's not even get started on the dreaded plot armor– nothing kills the vibe faster than a last-minute rescue by bad writing. (Leave a comment if you’d like to learn more about what NOT to do!)

me? writing some angsty crowley fic with too many physics metaphors? more likely than i thought. y'all have me out here tapping back into my crowley emotions with those meta asks.
to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
the laws of the universe are laws until they aren't, until you look closer and realise that nothing behaves like you thought it did, until there are no more laws, only assumptions. lies we tell ourselves to make sense of something so much bigger than anything we could ever hope to comprehend.
for crowley, physics is poetry is letters and words he can shape to his liking—he put the stars in the sky and started time. defying the boundaries laid upon him is his true nature, and after he did not burn on a flaming motorway and stopped satan himself in his tracks, he thought himself to be past questions, past hesitation.
then he cut himself open and watched the blood flow like an unstoppable force, staining aziraphale's pristine clothes, collecting and pooling around a sudden, immovable object. crowley waited until he was empty, until the red river accepted its defeat and seeped into the earth.
it should have told him all he needed to know, but physics is built upon hope, and so he acted, moving as he attempted to rewrite axioms he did not make but shaped.
to every reaction, there will be an equal and opposite reaction. the harder you push, the harder the universe will push back, and it did. physics is words is aziraphale's face growing cruel is i forgive you.
an equal and opposite reaction offered by an immovable object.
nothing lasts forever, try to create a perpetual motion machine, and you will fail. heat will always flow to where it isn't, hot to cold, hell to heaven, love dripping from crowley but barely melting the ice in aziraphale's irises. it will keep dripping until they are equal, until love is given and not just received.
hot to cold, never cold to hot, and you will lose warmth to empty space, watching it dissipate in the distance between two bodies as the universe leeches energy from everything it creates. after six thousand years, the world is full, and crowley is nothing more than blurry outlines and brittle matter, the last of him given by shaking hands to lips that will betray him over and over again.
the only way to stop the reaction is to stop. stop moving, stop pushing, stop looking. isolate your heart and trap what little love you have left, trap it and keep it for yourself.
crowley thought he created the stars, but they created him, and he is floating in their grasp with commandments offered to him in silver and ash.
thou shalt not—
love and be loved in return. think yourself as being above what keeps the universe expanding and the earth spinning. attempt to escape the hold of gravity.
he gave everything and watched motionlessly as aziraphale swallowed it all. name it love, name it greed, name it six thousand years of useless waiting, name it what you want, and then let it go.
to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
only when you release your words and still yourself will you know peace, unmoving but whole, alone but warm. crowley wanted a hand to hold and pressed his palm against the unknown, expecting the sun to appear and hold him back.
to every question, there is an answer you will regret demanding, and maybe that is his final poem, the hope underneath it all, a law shaped in his image:
never stop asking, never stop looking back, and never stop running.

Tedependent from a process of elimination perspective, because I just got some new tinfoil and I need to make hats
Ted’s arc this season is largely about his search for emotional intimacy, and the assumption by the viewers Is that it will be fulfilled by the end of the season, or at the very least alluded to. We can see how he is looking for genuine, authentic, romantic affection; and we watch him fail; through Sassy and even Michelle. Also, as the writers were writing this season as though it would be the last, it doesn’t make sense to not address this continuing storyline.
Cast members and even Hannnah Waddingham have talked about how the show is subverting expectations about TedxRebecca, and have brought up great points about the societal expectation that the male and female leads will end up together. It wouldn’t make sense for them to mention how these sorts of standards are unhealthy, and then go on to comply with those exact same conventions. This also perfectly sets up a queer romance by directly mentioning how they are going to defy the heteronormative standards the film industry typically subscribes to.
Ted and Rebecca’s arcs looking for romance are parallels, as have been their journeys through the first and second seasons. Important dual moments such as the conversations during the funeral episode in season two have been happening throughout the entire show. There’s even a nod to this when they both are carrying around Ola’s green matchbook. The most important romantic encounter Rebecca has had this season was her night with the boat guy, who was a romantic interest that came out of seemingly nowhere. You know who would seemingly come out of nowhere as a love interest for Ted? Trent!
