So You Want to Write about Horses: Color Edition

Well, your knight better not be riding in on a white horse, because that horse is actually grey! And what do you mean a brown horse? Is your cowboy's faithful horse sorrel or chestnut and what does it matter?

Lets begin with base horse colors:

This is fairly easy. All horses are either red-based or black-based. The other colors of horses are all modifications on these two basic variations. A plain red-based horse is a chestnut horse. If you live West of the Mississippi river, you would call this horse a sorrel. Same thing.

A plain black-based horse is a black horse.

Easy, right?

Genetically speaking, the choice between a black or a chestnut is controlled by the Extension gene, represented as E/e. A black horse is created when the genetics are either EE or Ee, as the Extension gene is dominant. A chestnut horse can only be ee, the regressive form with no black hair expression.

However, black horses are actually not that common, relatively speaking. Most horses are some form of chestnut, ee, or a bay.

The bay horse is a variation on a black base. They have black manes and tails, black on their legs, and red or brown bodies. A bay horse is created by the Agouti gene (A/a), which changes the expression of the Extension gene (E/e). So a horse with EE AA will be a bay horse, like above. A horse with Ee Aa will also be a bay horse, exactly the same. In order for a horse to be black, they must have a dominant Extension gene and a regressive Agouti gene, EE aa or Ee aa.

Chestnut horses have no black in their coat, so the Agouti gene cannot affect them. They can be carriers, however, and make a bay horse when paired with a black horse. A chestnut horse could be ee aa, ee Aa, or ee AA, and look completely the same.

Congradulations, you now know horse color genetics! Now for the fun ones.

Dun Genes

If you've ever seen Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron, you know this color

Dun (D/nd1/nd2) is a gene that modifies all base coat colors. It can modify black, creating a black dun/grullo horse, it can modify bay, creating a bay dun, and it can modify chestnut, creating a red dun. In all of these variations, the body of the horse is lightened, the mane, tail, and legs are dark, and the horse has 'primitive' markings, including an eel stripe down the back, darker face, and leg bars.

If you notice, dun has three variations! D is the dominant form, so any horse with D is a dun of some kind. Nd1 is a variant in the same gene that gives the horse similar markings, but it is not dun, and will be over powered by the dominant D version. Nd2 is a horse with no dun factor, so no markings or lighter coat. Dun horses can be D/D, D/nd2, D/nd1. A horse with non-dun factor (and look similar to a dun) can be nd1/nd1 or nd1/nd2. A bay, black, or chestnut horse will be nd2/nd2.

Cream Gene

Another gene diluting color is the cream gene, which you may know from the famous horse of Roy Rogers, Trigger

Trigger is a beautiful example of a palomino, a red-based cream dilute. As you can see, Trigger has a pale mane and tale and a gold colored body. Cream (Cr/Prl/-) is a dilution gene, or a hypomelanism gene, meaning it prevents red color in horse hair. Any red on a horse will be lightened. Chestnut horses, being all red, will have their entire bodies, mane, and tail lightened. Bay horses, with red hair only on their bodies, will have the body lightened, but the black mane, tail, and legs stay black, creating a buckskin horse

But wait! That horse looks exactly like the bay dun horse! Yes. Yes they do. However, buckskins do not have eel stripes, leg bars, or darker heads, and are a completely different gene. In fact, you can mix the two get a cream dun (Dunskin). It might be a slightly lighter dun.

Because a black horse has no red, black horses with the Cream dilute stay black, IF they have only one version (Ee aa Cr). Cream is an incomplete dominant gene, meaning that two versions makes the effect of the gene even stronger. Double creme dilutes are Cremellos, and they are very pale (but not white!)

The double creme dilute overrides all the other genes. They are still there, but the horse is so pale, you can't see them. A variation of this color is the perlino, a horse with a recessive dilute gene called Pearl (Prl/-)

Pearl is recessive, meaning that one copy does not change the horse's coat. Two copies creates the perlino, and because Pearl is on the same gene as Cream, a false cremello can be created by a horse with one cream gene and one pearl gene. Crazy, right?

Now, there are so many more genes, but lets skip ahead to some patterns.

Horse Patterns

These are technically not colors, but rather genes that selectively turn off color in certain areas to create a coat pattern in horses. The most important of these are Tobiano, Frame, and Appaloosa genes.

Tobiano is the gene for the coats of Paint horses (a color breed with a registry) and one of the genes for pinto horses. Pinto means any horse with large splashes of white, which includes the Frame gene, also known as Overo.

Both of these horses are Pintos, but only the lower one is an American Paint Horse, or Paint, and the top one has the Tobiano gene (TO), while the bottom has the Frame gene (O). A horse can be double Tobiano (TO/TO), Tobiano and Frame (known as Tovero) (TO/O), but a double Frame horse will die an early and painful death, due to Lethal White Factor.

Lethal White Overo is when two Frame horses are bred together and the foal receives the O gene from both parents. The foal can survive birth, but has malformations of the intestines that are incompatable with life. ALL affected horses die within days of birth.

Appaloosa horses are a very interesting horse. Technically, Appaloosa refers to a breed, developed by the Nez Perce tribe in the Pacific Northwest. Appaloosa is thought to come from "a Palouse horse", the name of a major river in the tribe's area. When the tribe was forced on a reservation, most of the horses were slaughtered or given to local white settlers, leading to many Appaloosa horses becoming merged to the Quarter Horse breed. As a result, most people use it as a color term.

The genes responsible for the Appaloosa pattern is the Leopard Complex, controlled by an incomplete dominant gene (Lp/-), which turns on the complex when present, and turns it off when absent. Several other genes control the amount of white, the type of white, how big the spots are, ect. One Lp turns the complex on, but two Lps creates a mostly white blanket, or a fewspot coat.

This horse has double Lp. The horse above it has one Lp, creating the many spotted coat.

Not all spotted horses are Appaloosas! In Denmark, the Knabstrupper is a breed of horse with no relation to the Appaloosa, but with the same gene creating the same spotted coat. Completely different breed, different origins, but same genes.

In all of these patterns, the pattern can be maximal, or very visible, or minimal, and not visible at all. A horse can look solid colored, but be hiding a pattern gene. So if you want to make babies, test your horse's genetics first! You do not want to accidentally cause a genetic deficiency.

Finally, the famous white horse.

Grey and White Horses

Most 'white' horses are actually grey. White horses are very rare. Grey horses are called grey because they are born with a colored coat, but because of the Grey gene (G/g) they lose color as they get older. Grey horses go through many colors throughout their lives.

A fully greyed-out horse at adulthood. Even all grey, the skin around it's eyes and nose is still black, because the skin underneath has not lost color, only the hair.

A white horse is born white, will always be white, and is never naturally any other color. The skin of a white horse is pink, because it, like the hair, does not have color.

Sodashi is a Japanese racehorse and a member of a super-rare white horse family. Several members of her family are pure white, due to a mutation that gives them extreme white pattern, much like with the Tobiano gene. Her relative, Buchiko, shows the minimal pattern that gives them their white color.

Finished Guide. I have thoughts.

Mostly positive ones. I have nitpicks, sure, but it's damn near impossible to write a fully satisfying resolution to a three million word story. EE did an insanely good job considering.

Akua was one of the highlights, of course. Her arc was indeed probably the single best redemption story I've ever seen. The pivot in Praes, in particular, was amazingly compelling ("why was she not hearing the song?" hit me HARD). @kvothbloodless once responded to my tags while I was in the middle of Book 2, assuaging my skepticism that a character as remarkably hateable as Akua could have a well-executed redemption arc, and I gotta say her confidence was well-placed. It's a testament to EE's character writing skills that a character who is not only morally monstrous but immensely personally unlikeable could be turned around like this. I'll make fun of Guide's length, of course, but I don't think an arc like this could be handled so well in a work of reasonable length. It's a strength both of the writer and the medium, I suppose.

Her final fate, like most of the cast's, was a pretty solid conclusion to her character arc as well. Really followed through on the narrative's refusal to entertain redemption through death, while still being a surprise, unlike the whole Dead-King's-jailor thing. The dynamics of that particular fate on her character had already been explored through her and Cat's thoughts several times, so it's nice to see something different, instead of just watching the original plan play out with rings instead of a crown.

Same goes for a lot of the other characters. Viv and Indrani had excellent conclusions. Masego and Hakram I'm not dissatisfied with, though I do have minor points of umbrage. Hakram's arc might just have gone past me a little bit; I feel that if he has to be tied so tightly to the Clans as a whole he really needed more foreshadowing connecting him to his home. Instead, it felt a little bit like a family-conquers-all story shoved in with only justification in the moment, which ain't really my cup of tea. More specifically, it felt like the narrative required him to have deeply-held goals that he could go be independent about, but forgot to actually touch on those goals until he'd already left Catherine. Still, just a mild disappointment.

Then we've got Masego, and my take on him is similar in that it's broadly satisfying but I just feel like it doesn't fit in certain ways. In his case, it's mostly the apotheosis: the edges of that particular puzzle piece seem rough, as if EE had something else in mind but swapped it out relatively late in the process. There was some hinting that his dream of godhead would result in conflict with Cat, and then they just... didn't do that. Then in the epilogues, it really seems like his apotheosis hadn't made much impact on who he is or what he does. His part of the epilogue would have been just as suitable, to my eyes, if he hadn't achieved that. So it fell flat a little bit, which took some of the wind out of his ending. Everything else about him was great though.

Catherine's ending took the longest for me to think through. At first I was a bit ambivalent about it, 'cause it felt like nothing was really subverted. Minus a few hiccups, she got everything she wanted. Cardinal. The Liesse Accords. Even all the Woe surviving. The only thing she didn't get was Akua, and she already knew that wasn't on the table. I really just did not expect a straightforward Catherine Wins ending to the Guide. I thought she'd probably die at least; in fact, I thought the most likely outcome was Cat's death and her goals being posthumously realized! This story sure felt like a tragic ending was coming down the pipes!

And then once again, I remembered that this is a story about stories. What Cat has isn't just a happy ending, it's one last victory over the narrative. It's a middle finger to the idea that villains don't get to sail off into the sunset. And you know, it really takes some strength to put a fresh coat of paint on the very idea of a happy ending. So yeah, Cat's ending is great. Just perfect.

But of course, there's no way to wrap up three million words while satisfying every single plot point. So, keeping in mind that APGTE is probably among my top 5 written works in the English language now, I do have a point or two of order.

First off, towards the end, Named were dying like flies. Felt like every chapter had a list of casualties all its own. And I can see the drive to do that; there were a lot of Named involved by that point and there had to be casualties. It keeps the stakes high and the villains scary. But I can't help but feel discouraged from reading once six characters I'm somewhat engaged with die in the span of two chapters. Mostly offscreen.

The biggest offender here was the Painted Knife's band. I really loved the bonus chapter about their backstories, as well as the concept of them as the first band containing both heroes and villains, and I'd wish we'd seen nore of how that relationship developed. And I thought it was a weighty enough label that they'd shot up again later. So when it was mentioned offhand that the Royal Conjurer was killed, I was blindsided a little bit. And then the rest died, one by one, offscreen (except the Knife). Poor Poisoner. She was my favorite. Felt like wasted potential, like a story that wasn't followed through to the end. The Blade of Mercy was in a similar boat. He was important in the Arsenal arc! Let him die onscreen at least!

There was Roland too, who wasn't as bad. His death wasn't really satisfying, another surprise Hawk casualty, but at least it was shown and meaningful. Still, I feel like he deserved a proper character arc outside his backstory. Poor guy.

A couple other deaths, too: Rafaella and Alexis in the fight against the Dead King. Rafaella was ambiguous enough that I really wasn't sure whether she was dead for a while, and even after... I dunno. The hero who killed Captain needed a stronger resolution than "sacrificed herself to get rid of the Dead King's last line of revenants." Then Alexis's death just wasn't meaningful; it wasn't for anything. And I know, I know, that's not how death works, but it is in stories! Didn't feel right. It was too fast.

But the Keter deaths were really my biggest gripe, and if that's the biggest problem I have with a conclusion to a story that long? I can only offer applause.

You know what death I didn't have a problem with? Hanno, in the epilogue. How the hell do you kill a character that major in just a few sentences and make it feel satisfying? The epilogues were just all-around great. The character deaths and resolutions felt natural, plot points that were touched on in the main story were shown to ultimately be left to the next generation, and the continued history and development of the world made it feel so alive. It's a common sin for characters to create a new static world that's supposed to feel like it'll last forever. And sure, the framework of the Accords are kinda like that, but the rest of the world? There are still wars, still conflicts, still upheavals. (The Republic of Orense was a nice touch in that regard.) The epilogues are nearly flawless and I will stand by that.

Last thing - of course I gotta talk about Anaxares. When Yara dropped him into the Serenity, I was pretty hyped about it. But then... I dunno. It turned out a bit flat. Felt less like the culmination of Anaxares's character and more like a plot device to cross the Serenity out of the equation. At the end of the day, with Anaxares sitting in the Serenity through the final battle and then appearing in the epilogues just to pop up years in the future, cause problems, and run off again, he felt weirdly like a sequel hook? And forgive me, but I'd eat my hat if there's a sequel. I guess it's imagination bait, which is certainly preferable to a poorly-executed conclusion. He's still my favorite non-Cat character. If there's any decent fic about him, please give it.

Speaking of, that's all I've got. Looking back up, this was mostly petty complaints, but I wanna be clear: once the first few books were past and EE broke their worst writing habits, this became one of my favorite writing pieces ever. The length and the proliferation of typos and other errors mean that I'd hesitate to fullthroatedly recommend it to anyone, but it's one of those works that has permanently altered my brain. Good fucking book.

Okay, Pale Lights time. Hopefully I'll catch up before Book 3 comes to an end, but I'm not gonna rush. Rapidly chewing through ridiculously long works is not, I have learned, conducive to getting the most enjoyment out of them.

heyyyyy first off i am SO so sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this. i’ve been going through a lot of complicated personal stuff the past several months and it’s kept me off of social media…but i am back now! hopefully. i may not be the most active but i will try my best!!

NOW FOR THE QUESTION !!! DICE is a little funny for me…i love them so much and yet my mind’s perception of them constantly shifts…i can never seem to think of anything concrete for them. i love most theories about them to where i can’t decide which ones to believe in myself. like the 11th member…i really like all of the explanations people make for them. from cameraperson to pet to kokichi’s twin. I can’t decide which i like best so they’re all true at the same time for me.

for things that i CAN decide on…hm. Well they are Definitely orphans to me. and i think that like…that horse head in kokichi’s room? they all have one of those. they like to wear them regularly i think. it’s an extra mask. it gets pulled off their faces scooby-doo style to reveal the clown mask underneath.

and i Really like the card nicknames headcanon. but i think they have more than just standard deck names. like there’s Heart, Spade, Club, Clover, Ace, Joker. then you’ve got shit like Wild +4. Basic Darkness Energy. A Deal With Dark Ruler. Sour Cream From Steven Universe. they’re an unpredictable bunch…you can never guess what nickname they’re gonna use next.

the last one actually has an explanation. in an rp from like. jan 2019 i think? it was with DICE members and one of them pointed out how this guy’s hair looks like sour cream from steven universe

and in hindsight their hair is actually not that similar at all they are both just pointy. but that has stuck with me. and it’s funny. so i’ve been calling that member Sour Cream ever since

and speaking of comparing media…i imagine the group to have a dynamic similar to Giovanni’s Boys (gender neutral) from one of my favorite shows, the hit webseries epithet erased. they’re a gang of teenage petty criminals who are initially low-ranking members of an Actual criminal organization pyramid scheme but they eventually leave after giovanni proposes making their own evil organization. they’ve got goofy nicknames like Dark Star and Crusher and Flamethrower and Car Crash (but you can only get one if you earn it). giovanni wants to be a supervillain so bad and he is the sweetest guy ever who loves his minions so very much. these snippets from the book really fit DICE i think!

i look at them replacing hot dogs with cattails, and i nod and think…yes…DICE would do that…stupid but fun…that’s all they want…

they have their differences. giovanni and his boys (gender neutral) are very stupid. but i think the fundamentals of them both being groups of teens who just want to have fun and commit harmless petty crimes and who care so much for each other is Wonderful. i often think of this song to be DICE’s theme song even if i don’t think they are actually like how the banzai blasters are in the song. they’re smarter. But it’s a banger. i find them both very very fun (i think about kokichi saying lines from ee often…i have a list)

And this is not really a headcanon but i like how in the group photo everyone else has pants that at least Reach their ankles but kokichi is a rebel and wears pants that are just slightly too small for him. why does he do that. Weirdo (affectionate)

The annoying thing to me about the holler post, is that my area of Appalachia doesn't say holler, but we have a tendency to ad -er to the end of words. Our words slur into one another, we drop the endings of words off, and some words we can't say like the rest of the country. Everyone is GLEEFUL when I say "gumband" instead of rubberband. I had a cousin who didn't realise that jumbo was the same thing as bologna.

Every part of the country has their own slang and vernacular, so why is it that everyone wants to make fun of Appalachia and the south?? Oh wait, racism and classism of course!!!

FR FR FR FR. a small but super common example: pronouncing library as ly-brair-ee vs ly-barry. as a teenager i used to spout “ly-barry isn’t a word” bullshit bc i wanted to be an english major and thought you had to be a snob about one type of english being correct to be one. then i realized my dad pronounces it ly-barry, and i never noticed bc it’s how his accent forms the word naturally. the snobbery about that in particular was very short lived.

also stuff like ain’t and y’all and a LOT of other stuff in our dialect crosses over with aave. obviously aave and american southern dialect are in no way the same, but they do share similarities. like most things in american southern culture, our dialect was heavily influenced by the black members of our community. “finna” and “fixin’ to” are derived from the same place. the habitual “be” (i be going to the store), double negatives, third person singular absence (he don’t have that), and several pronunciation differences from “standard” english are shared to various extents between aave and american southern dialect, especially rural southern dialect. that’s not a coincidence, it’s because the south has always had a very large black population.

they have always been dismissed and disenfranchised and excluded as well, from the horrors of slavery to modern day gerrymandering and classism. i don’t think the fact that it’s these aspects of southern culture and language that are mocked and belittled is innocent happenstance. you don’t see the stereotypical speech patterns of the “southern belle” or “wealthy plantation owner” mocked with so much vitriol. they’re still made fun of, but it’s not in the same way as people make fun of the speech patterns associated with more rural, lower socioeconomic class southern culture. it’s also not a coincidence that these stereotypes are archetypical white characters.

i love the south. it’s my home and there is such a vibrant culture and growing up here i was instilled with values that i wouldn’t trade for anything. and it infuriates me that people write us and appalachia off completely because of classist, racist misconceptions and the actions of our government officials who were elected through gerrymandering and disenfranchising voters. who are only in office bc they took advantage of the flaws already present in our culture to convince people to vote against their own self interest in order to satisfy their bigotry. when people not from here talk about us, it’s never to help us improve our circumstances for those of us who are marginalized the most. it’s so they can feel superior to the dumb, gun-toting, bigoted rednecks they think we all are.

Final thoughts: Trevor has definitely 0 interest in this job. He knows little about the externals and who they are mainly he didn’t know who inksoul was. This can be because of his lack of knowledge of vampires like his TMA self who then when down the path of The Hunt. However he does act the same as TMA Herbert I give him that. However god knows if he actually knows.

Celia is being mysterious and well nothing is new there. Sam and Celia talk a bit more and that’s nice for them.

Gwen is planning something I feel it everyone is down the Celia is planning something train but Gwen took back the job after it destroyed her. She obviously wants Lena’s position but she’s not the only one who knows about the externals now and everyone is curious I just wonder if the plan is the same get Lena out of her position and prove that she can do a hell of a better joh than her or if she’s actually working alongside her co workers to deal with the externals.

Now we know that something wasn’t normal about the Institute the table from the website proves that the questions aren’t. Normal. And we didn’t know why or how Sam failed. Each question Sam was asked does deal with negative emotions, we know that the TMA fears fed from what people were afraid of and the people who were entities had taken that route because it ‘protected’ them from something they were afraid of. We know TMA dealt with fears as their main subject and we know that TMP deals with alchemy as their main subject. We know that in the ritual Sam saw a body was being sacrificed on the table and metals and stones hung above him with machines measuring results. We can guess this was alchemy and the sick yellow light could’ve been citrinitas the yellow stage of alchemy which included the inner soul light of our body and is depicted with a wise old man. Now am I bright enough to figure out where the bones come into play. No, no I am not!

Anyways I hate the Magnus protocol never in my entire life did I think that after I left identity V I would go onto Wikipedia and look into alchemy I left that with The alchemy essence dammit I don’t need this.

13. Which character are you most similar two.

For me there are two characters that come to mind. The first is rises Sunita. She is by no means dumb, but like me, she is a tad naive. She gets easily distracted and isn't always aware of what's happening around her. But she is generally happy and cares about others. She is fun and is always down for a good time. And on top of all of it she is sentimental.

The next character is 2012 Mikey. Now I like Mikey as a character but I relate to him to much for him to be a favorite of mine. - Gus casting a huge terrifying illusion around everything as he gives Belos one long "reason you need to repent for your sins" speech. He walks towards him, shifting into all the people he's hurt over the centuries. Then he turns into Evelyn, then Caleb. I want Gus to be Belos' worst nightmare basically.

- I've seen takes that Gus being the key against Belos and all the grimwalker lore wouldn't fit and has nothing to do with his arc and it shouldn't be his responsibility. But like

Gus has spent his whole life being deceived for being trusting and gullible. Gus going up against a man who has built his life on lies and deception. Oh it would fuck. And all the similarities between Gus and the Collector. Like this part of the story is practically tailored for Gus to slip into. If you know how to write it. And I just hope they know how to write it

Ohhhhh I know Gus already loathes Belos as much as anybody but ohhhhh. He learns the Collector lore and then turns to Belos, eyes glowing like "You lied to him. You said you were his friend but you lied to him."

- I'm not an Amity Blight expert so I'm probably far off. But I've been thinking about it. I'm wondering if maybe her puppetification is JUST her, rather than it being all of the kids. And maybe Odalia is directly responsible.

And considering Amity is overdue for her ✨️Moment✨️ I'm wondering if this might be it. There's a running theme in the owl house when it comes to puppets and puppet masters, and this is directly linked to the characters who suffered abuse and manipulation at the hands of their parental figures.

Hunter got his puppet moment in TTT. Maybe Amity gets something similar in WAD. I know she's HAD her big important moment of establishing her autonomy in EE and then again in COTH. But maybe its one final nod to it. I also find it interesting that in spite of being puppetfied her hand is moving. Like to symbolise this defiance and stubbornness to comply with what Odalia has demanded of her ever since EE

- I've been mostly thinking about the potential scenario of Belos!Luz and GG!Hunter from Luz's POV. Cuz idek if we're getting the actual Hunter or a dream version of Hunter.

But like. It's FUCKED. Because Belos was Hunter's blood relation. He was his family. A terrible twisted version of a family but the only kind Hunter knew.

And then came Luz, who reinvented the meaning of family for him. She confided in him, she trusted him, she loved him. She made that boy her family because she adored him.

So THIS is deranged. Its warping the relationship they've built together into this depraved disturbing thing. The merger of these two family dynamics into one sickening thing. Like Luz was his shelter. But now she's become the exact thing he was running from.

Having Hunter look at her with blatant fear, shrinking himself so he stands beneath her, the horrible emotions that must make her feel. Oh I HATE THIS!!!

And even getting this miniscule comfort of Hunter ripped away from her. Like he was her PERSON. The only one who was aware of the horrible things she's done and she doesn't feel judged by, for several months. Like if all else failed, at least Hunter didn't hate her.

And now THIS scenario which is like "maybe....maybe he should be the one to hate you the most."

- Want a scene where Willow and Hunter gotta split up and there's some kind of antagonist pursuing them. They've only got a moment of peace before it reaches them. And Willow's like "You go ahead. I'll hold them off." (Like she did in LR) and Hunter doesn't want to leave her. But the circumstances are dire and he knows he has to and he KNOWS she'll keep herself alive. But he still worries. So they promise each other that they'll stay safe and Willow turns her back to him after that, preparing herself for a fight and expecting him to hurry off now. But he doesn't. He lingers there for an extra moment, wanting to tell her something but unable to put it into words. Then he zaps himself to her side, hastily smooches her cheek and zaps away before she can recover from her shock.

And then Willow is just. Left there. Stunned. Staring blankly at the space where he once was. And then a smile cracks her mouth wide open. Whatever she's fighting catches up to her and Willow can only cackle giddily, her engine all revved up, and she's all like LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO

Willow gets one teeny tiny little smooch by Hunter and it makes her go all "I AM POWERFUL AND I WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!!!"

- Actually overall I believe in a Willow and Hunter comic relief. I think Gus and Amity are both having special spotlight in this episode. And Luz will finally reunite with Eda and King. And idk WHERE the fuck Camila is (smooching puppet Darius or smth). But ya Willow and Hunter are gonn be so cringe.

- Evelyn Clawthorne voice reveal and Irish accent.

- Belos dies an excruciatingly painful death

- Hunter Noceda

7x04 - Buddie is all over this episode and not because we finally got Bi!Buck confirmation

Alright, we got some fanfuckingtastic food this episode and while I'm still celebrating over here in the corner for Bi!Buck becoming canon and how important that is not only for bisexual representation in mainstream media but also for his character, I have to talk about Buddie. (I am not diminishing this great moment for Buck, I promise)

Don't get me wrong. I like Tommy and I'm excited to see how this all pans out and to explore this journey with Buck. Not to mention the whole "Maybe you're more of a Team Jacob kind of guy" from Sal to Tommy back in 2x09, I'm glad to see it come full circle like this because they could have chosen someone else for Buck. Plus he and Buck do have chemistry.

But I have to be honest, my personal opinion is that Tommy is another case of this. Here's a whole list of why:

Another Name Ending with "ee" Sound: Edd-ie -> Tomm-y

Army connection: Both were in the army; both are connected to helicopters (and we know how important the helicopter symbolism is for Buddie)

Dressing Alike: Tommy and Eddie are dressing alike (when Eddie picks him up)

Looking alike: In certain lighting (like outside Buck's apartment door), Tommy has a similar look to Eddie

Immediate Side-eye: Buck had a similar reaction to Tommy and Eddie's friendship that he had to Eddie when the latter first joined the 118

Working Out: We even go back to the working out scenario (callback to 2x01) but this time, Eddie isn't working out, he's talking to Tommy on his phone, it's Ravi around this time not Chim, and Buck is once again trying to get Eddie's attention, but this time not competitively; if this were strictly about Buck's attraction to Tommy and trying to get his attention, Buck wouldn't have gone to this trouble; if Buck wanted to get Eddie's attention platonically because of his platonic jealousy, the basketball game was a better route than lifting weights (which is why they have the basketball delivered at the end of that scene)

Tsunami Callback: Tommy helped the 118 with flying the helicopter into a hurricane to land on the capsized cruise ship to rescue Bathena; it's not as overt and may be unintentional on the writers' part (who are we kidding? we KNOW these writers) but it calls back the tsunami arc for me from season 3, with Buck's and Eddie's separate involvement due to Buck's situation, this time they're together but Tommy isn't part of the 118 anymore

The Kitchen: Buck and Tommy in the kitchen - Buck opens a beer but doesn't drink it, Tommy declines one - we know open beer bottles/having a beer is also an important symbol for Buddie - this felt very much like a callback to 3x09 where Buck was getting that close to Eddie, this time Tommy was the one to get closer to Buck - and it also brings to mind 4x12 where Taylor was talking to Buck and Eddie about the treasure hunt, where Taylor told Buck she loved him in season 5 - the kitchen is not only important for Buddie but also for Buck's most important relationships (Eddie, Christopher (from the season 6 dinner), Maddie, Albert, Chim, etc)

Asking Parallel: Buck reveals Eddie has been asking him to play basketball but he always turns him down, now he asked Tommy & Tommy is going; Buck "asks out" Tommy and offers to buy him a beer, not once but twice Tommy turns him down until the kiss happens; Buck asks Eddie back in 7x01 to go go-karting & Eddie turns him down, saying he has a date as does Christopher

More of the Taylor/Eddie parallel: Ashley C, a dental hygienist, (think "always smiling"/teeth, Taylor on camera) tells Buddie "I love dalmatians" (something we know Taylor referred to Buck as) and Ashley A (a flight attendant btw, a subtle reference to the helicopter thing) says "I feel so lightheaded, I'm having palpitations". Two different Ashleys but it's no coincidence that Ashley "A" is the one to give the Eddie reference (we all know he had that situation going on back in season 5)

Buck keeps mentioning the Tommy/Eddie connection: "You and Tommy have a lot of things in common" - he mentions it twice, once to Eddie and then once to Tommy later in the kitchen

Eddie asking Buck to watch Christopher: While Eddie hasn't asked Tommy to watch Christopher because he usually is out with him, it's mentioned that Christopher has met Tommy and approves; Eddie then asks Buck to watch Christopher after mentioning he's already asked Marisol twice to watch him twice that week - not only does this dialogue put Marisol and Buck on the same level for Eddie in who he trusts but also, in an episode where tons of paralleling is going on, relationship wise in the dialogue (they could have not had Eddie mention that when asking Buck or just say Marisol was busy or something else)

The Chim Factor: once again, Chim is being involved (as is Madd-ie who has also been a parallel for Eddie before) - from 2x01 to now, he's always had a front seat to the Buddie show, no coincidence that he was brought to the basketball game by Buck or that he ends up being there to look over Eddie once he's hurt

The Bachelor Nod: the Bachelor named Joey and the male host that both Maddie and Josh are falling all over themselves to talk to is Jesse (ties into the two Ashleys, the two Sarahs) - I've never watched The Bachelor so I have no idea if Jesse and Joey are actually real (I'm assuming maybe due to the credits) but interesting that out of all the guys they could have chosen be a guest to do this spot, they have another J name, again in an episode where we're getting a name two different ways not once but twice and again, the parallels

Season 5 ATC callback: I also find it interesting that Joey approaches Chim and has his hand on Chim's shoulder the same way we saw Eddie do with Buck back in season 5 when they were treating someone on the ground, at the Air traffic tower, after Ashley A pinned her wings onto Joey

Conchata connection: This character feels like a connection to Eddie not just due to the mention of Mexico but also that "Conchata" comes crashing into the scene; feels/appears like one thing at first but then we find out differently and the real Conchata has been there all along, just waiting to be found - could this be foreshadowing? or a callback to how Eddie first came into the 118 and it looked like there was going to be a rivalry but it turned into something else?

"Seriously cool": Not only is Christopher impressed with Tommy, but Buck obviously is, too. We all remember only too well who else Buck found to be this level of cool and going on and on to Maddie about (hello 2x01 my old friend)

Getting attention: Buck admits he was trying to get Eddie's attention (but not to Eddie); Buck admits to Tommy that he was working hard to get his attention

The Ashleys: Ashley A is from Corona, CA (both Buck and Eddie now live in CA as does Taylor) while Ashley C is from Florida (Buck is from PA I think and Taylor I forget where but Midwest I think? I can't remember for her, please feel free to correct me in the comments, Eddie is from Texas)

"It's only been two weeks": Buck mentions this more than once, that Tommy and Eddie are best buddies after only two weeks - subtle inference back to season 2 where Buck met Eddie and within an episode they had become best buddies and again, the weights scene

Buck's Reaction Compared to Maddie's: while Maddie tells Buck to stop acting like the 14 year old girl she was, her reaction was different though the motivating factor was similar - both Sarah B & Sarah S were blonde, Maddie dyed her hair & wanted to change her name to fit in with them because she was jealous and missed her best friend - Buck (yes, I know he's an adult but he did admit he was acting similarly to Maddie), the only way he tries to fit in is with basketball, before that, it's all about getting the attention of both Eddie and Tommy (and by them showing us the Eddie phone and weights scene plus the basketball package (after he's turned Eddie down so many times) they're subtly letting us know that this isn't just about Tommy)

"Evan": the only other two men (from the 118) to call Buck Evan are Chim and Eddie (I don't think Bobby has before, but I could be wrong) = not a coincidence that now Tommy is (and frequently) and again, also no coincidence that Chim has a front seat to this (when Chim has also been paralleled with Buck like last season & Maddie has been paralleled with Eddie before)

Basketball Game Apparel: Chim is wearing his LAFD hoodie while Tommy is wearing a grey hoodie tank; Buck and Eddie are wearing tank tops (different cuts but both dark colors); as we all already know, TV and this show will use costuming to show when two people are on the same page, doing the same thing, or there's something going on for those two characters that is trying to be conveyed to the audience without being overt. I mean, hello:

Considering Eddie and Buck aren't on the same page right now (Eddie has no idea about Buck's jealousy until Buck does what he does at the game), and while they might be playing the same game, it's against each other, so that only leaves one thing:

So there is a lot of connection between Tommy and Eddie:

We even see Tommy and Eddie keeping an even pace as they're walking away from Buck.

Plus, we also got more callbacks to season 3, for Eddie (which connects back to that 3x09 kitchen scene again because of the context of that conversation between Buck and Eddie): "Tommy's friends with the promoter so we got ringside seats. I felt like I was the one throwing the punches."

But here is where it gets even more interesting:

Tommy is also paralleling Buck.

Tommy mentions being jealous of the 118 and seeing how much of a tight-knit unit they are, after he's been out of there for a while -> Buck was initially jealous of Eddie back in 2x01 because he thought he was being replaced in his 118 family (and appeared to feel the same way about Ravi until we found out differently)

Tommy appears to know exactly what Buck is talking about with dating someone he's rescued by saying "They're always so grateful"

Tommy is part of the pre-original 118 lineup (who knew Chim and Hen); Buck is part of the original 118 who obviously knows Chim and Hen

Christopher cannot stop talking about Tommy to Buck and Buck to Tommy

Eddie asks Tommy to go to basketball after Buck has turned him down several times

Tommy has become Bestie!Buck 2.0 for Eddie in Buck's absence (in Buck's eyes) though there's no reasoning for this absence outside of Eddie's new relationship & Buck's turning Eddie down for an activity (this absence is alluded to when Eddie finds out for the first time that Buck is no longer with Natalia)...well, really 3.0 because, you know...Lena (who also brought Eddie to a fight btw with "ringside" seats, who knew the organizer)

I guarantee we'll get more connections to both as this develops, but I don't think Buddie is out for the count. Especially after seeing the promo for next week's episode. Not so much because of Eddie and Marisol seeing Buck and Tommy together, but Buck's obvious tension that Tommy reacts to before Eddie even shows up, and then Buck's reaction to Eddie showing up.

To be fair, this is all new to him as he states so it makes sense that he's still figuring things out for his own journey. But, at the same time, there did not need to be this many connections that the writers purposely made to either Buck or Eddie for Tommy. That's why, as excited as I am to see how Buck/Tommy plays out, I also think it's like what Ana Flores was for Eddie (though obviously very different relationship dynamics and characters), to get Buck to open up and have this realization about himself, to explore it, and end up wherever he does. So all in all, this should be interesting, for Buck's character alone as much as for Buddie.

TLDR: I really like it! I would put it above LOTSAD. I think Phobia is my favorite

There are some similar things between EE and LOTSAD but to me it's almost like two sides of the same coin.

For example Glory for the Greedy and Not Your Bro have the same theme of people trying to act different once they started to get more popular.

While Glory was more about the corporate side, labels and producers and such that had rejected them before and then wanted to get a cut while they gleefully rejected them in turn now.

I have always supported your band" You haven't? Our last chat you were saying "ditch the rapper" "I believed in your vision" Hmm, no you didn't? You told us to lose the guitars and sing in Finnish "You're gonna be a big band, I always knew" Shut the fuck up man, no thanks to you "Prepare getting sued" Well prepare to fucking lose We ain't giving away percentages for work you didn't do

And that theme stayed in my mind the whole album, where LOTSAD was triumphant to almost an annoying degree (I still liked it tbh) Exit Emotions is showing more of the turmoil that comes from the grind they've been putting themselves through. I think at this point we've all read or heard from them how there's been days they've been up for over 24 hours, that they were literally recording the album in hotel rooms between shows. I personally am a little haunted by the live where Niko explained that they weren't supposed to have such a packed tour schedule last year while recording the album but things just kind of happened, and Joel, Joonas, and Aleksi were just quiet but had this look of defeat on their faces. And one of them saying later that they were scared to listen to the album because they were so sleep deprived when they were recording it... Bros need a fucking break.

But back to the album, I have to admit I expected Wolves in California to be an absolute cringe fest and it was to a degree, but for as much as they've been trying to break into the American market I kind of love that the song was more talking about Finland and how they don't necessarily feel steady in the US.

Watching the Always Open and reading up hearing them talk about the end of V3, V4 and 5 about how Yang was so upset and angry that Blake left, even if Blake thought she was doing the right thing, and how you can see the depth of a relation up if they’re able to get over and come back from those strong emotions. Yang was hurt, but Blake proved that she wasn’t going to leave her again. Blake was so anxious that Yang could turn out to be like. Adam but she proved that whatever positive or similar traits they had it was All Yang no hint of Adam at all. It’s just I’m only 7 minutes in but hearing THEM talk about their characters and how they got to see things play out Knowing the whole time it wasn’t just fandom speculation it wasn’t just the regular kind of shipping where you know the characters aren’t gay but you build your own narrative. They are a Canon Couple and have been Written to be a Canon Couple just like Pyrrha and her feelings for Jaune, just like Renora. They were written to fall in love and it’s been confirmed by the voice actors and Kerry. I hate ppl who use Monty’s name in their arguments but if Kerry says so that means obviously Monty thought of it too. The Together Together joke in Volume 1 AND Yang introducing Ruby to Blake and having that little “I like your bow it matches your pajamas” ARE BOTH THE BEGINNINGS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE ON SCREEN ROMANIC BUILD UP THE BEES AND RENORA DEVELOPED AT THE SAME TIME ON PURPOSE AND ITS CONFIRMED!! AND THE SEASON ISN’T OVER YET EE HAVE FORU MORE EPISODES and hopefully the rest of the series but I’m crossing my fingers. I know it doesn’t live in a vacuum and ppl will say this doesn’t excuse all the shit that went down at RT but I need thought it was meant to do that. The ppl making the show who still work there and many who aren’t were so happy to see the Bees and WANT to make the show despite the company they work for it’s not just everyone is evil. So I’m hoping so badly we get to see the conclusion of this show but V9 has been so incredible and depending on the last episode if this is all we get for the rest of time. It might be ok once the dust settles.

This is quite the ask but I'll answer what I think your real question is.

I want the rest of the series too, I know RT is a shit company but the fact of the matter is (and I'm sorry to be so blunt about it) almost ALL entertainment companies are shit.

That doesn't make the people working for them bad, it doesn't make the shows they produce bad and it certainly doesn't make us bad people for loving those shows and wanting them to continue, It's been BLATANTLY obvious that nearly everyone who worked on V9 did it as a labor of love.

I think, with any luck, we'll hear something about v10 being greenlit after V9 is over, especially if the viewership numbers are as strong as I think they are after this past chapter.

In an ideal world I'd love to hear the news that 10, 11 and 12 are greenlit because I feel like they could tie up the show nicely, even if I'd always want more. Also, yeah, at minimum we get four episodes of Blake & Yang being an actual couple and I hope so, so much that we get more.

After one conversation with a guy, it took a little more than reassuring to tell Peter you were with him.

"Y/N! Get up, we're gonna be late for school!" Gwen exclaimed, knocking on the door. I rolled over in bed and groaned when my sister ushered me to get up. "Come on! Peter's going to be here in a few minutes, and you know how he gets when we're late," she continued. I pulled my comforter off and stumbled over to my dresser.

After a few minutes, I changed, looking more presentable than before. I opened my door and made my way downstairs. My younger brothers sat at the kitchen island, chowing down some waffles my mother made. "Morning, sweetheart," my father kisses my forehead with a hand reaching towards the coffee mug beside the Keurig.

Gwen walked down the steps with her brown bag over her arm. She fixed the sleeve of her suit jacket. "Cute overalls," she complimented. "Thanks. They're yours," I replied, straightening the cuff of the golden brown's cuff.

"They're what?" she said.

I ignored her statement, smirking. She turned to me with furrowed brows. "Okay. Kids, I will be a little bit late home from work tonight, so dinner is up in the air," my mother said. She handed me a cup of coffee. I sat between Philip and Simon, Gwen joining my side. My mother handed us a plate of waffles with our topping of choice.

"Alright, boys, let's get to school," my father grabbed them by the shoulders and pushed them towards the front door.

We wished them a good day at school before finishing our breakfast. During our conversation, Peter had made his way up to the front door. He politely knocked on the door. I looked over my shoulder and shot him a smile. "We'll see you after school, mom," Gwen said. Our mom kissed us on the top of the head.

She handed us each a container of our favorite fruit, telling us to share it with Peter if he wanted some. I slipped on my white keds and grabbed my backpack from the bench. "Good morning, sweet boyfriend," I bowed. He rolled his eyes playfully and put an arm around my shoulders.

"I'm here too," Gwen pointed out.

"And hello, Gwen," Peter waved. After some walking, the three of us made it to school. My boyfriend opened the door for my sister and me. We weaved through the crowds of people, finally arriving at our lockers. Thankfully, all three of our lockers were somewhat in the same spot.

Peter held my backpack as I sifted through the textbooks, trying to figure out what I needed. "Hey. I promised Flash that I'd help with Geometry," Gwen said. "You're still helping him?" I said, setting my AP literature textbook at the bottom of the locker. "Yes, I am. He really needs help," Gwen closed the door to her locker.

She hugged her books, looking at our faces. "We'll see you in Ecology then," I said. She smiled and waved goodbye before disappearing into the crowd. "Can you believe that she's still tutoring him?" Peter commented. "No, no. I cannot," I responded. He chuckled and zipped up my backpack, handing it to me.

I thanked him and slipped my arm through the strap of the backpack. He opened his own locker while I helped him with his things. "Um, excuse me," someone cleared their throat behind me. I turned around, thinking it might've been the person with the locker underneath mine.

"Oh, Theo, hey," I said. "Hey. How are you doing?" he leaned against the other locker. He crossed his arms with a smirk on his face. His red hair was slicked back with the strong aroma of hair gel. Peter looked at Theo. "I'm doing okay," I replied.

Theo smirked and nodded along. He glanced behind him like he was looking for Gwen. "So, what're you doing tonight?" Theo questioned. Peter let out a sigh and grabbed the spine of his textbook. I could sense his anger and uneasiness. "Probably just staying in," I answered. "It seems like you do that a lot," Theo replied.

Peter's grasp on the book tightened, his fingers became red, and his knuckles a pale white. I tried to hint to Theo in any way that I wasn't interested. "Yeah, well, I'm more of a homebody," I stated. "I have an extra ticket to L/F/M, if you wanted to come with my friends and me," Theo offered.

He stole a glimpse at Peter, who was trying to ignore the situation. Peter shut his locker and held onto the strap of his backpack as it sat on his shoulder. "Thank you for the offer, but I'm not interested," I declined. Theo's brows raised.

He chuckled, shoving his hands into the pockets of his light-washed jeans. "And, I've got a boyfriend, and I don't think he'd appreciate me going out with someone who wouldn't want to just watch a movie," I remarked. "C'mon, I can tell you want me," Theo insisted.

"Yeah, I want you to leave me alone," I said. I waved him goodbye and led Peter to our Geography class. We walked to the aisle where we sat, joining our fellow group mates.

(After school)

Peter laid across my bed, playing with a red rubber ball. He threw it up and caught it before it fell on his chest. I tapped my pencil on my chin while we worked on our project for Literature. We were to read two short stories and then compare them. Peter was quiet when we began working.

I'd like to think that it's his way of brainstorming, but it wasn't normal for him to only say something sometimes. I looked over my shoulder to see him looking at the emoji on the front of the rubber ball.

"Okay. I've got the first comparison done, have you started on the second one?" I asked. He sat up from the bed and grabbed his opened laptop from beside him. Peter looked through the document on his computer. "What's up with you? You've been quiet since we got out of school," I said, setting my pencil beside my computer.

He shrugged his shoulders and sat up in my bed. Peter set his computer on the pillow beside him. "Has that Theo guy asked you out before?" Peter asked. I closed my computer and walked to the bed, joining his side. "I mean, yeah, but I've always said I'm not interested or unavailable," I answered.

Peter tossed the ball between each of his hands, watching it as he played. I reached over and grabbed the rubber ball from him, and set it on the bedside table. "Why haven't you ever told me?" Peter questioned. "I didn't think it was necessary. Gwen has told him off a few times, and he just stopped talking to me," I responded.

"Except for this time, when I was with you," Peter nodded. I sighed, nodding as well. I looked to the side with a smile appearing on my face. "I thought that comeback to Theo's pickup line was pretty sick," Peter said.

"Really?"

"Really," he repeated. Peter leaned in to kiss me, further preventing me from speaking. I smiled against his lips with my hands pressing onto the mattress. Peter's hands rested on my waist, lightly pushing my green tank top.

Peter and I continued to kiss as articles of clothing were being thrown all over the place. The feeling of Peter’s lips trailed up the side of my neck. I yelped slightly when Peter leaned back and flipped me over. He hovered over me with a smile on his face. "I just can't believe you got jealous," I spoke.

"I wasn't jealous," he insisted. "Mmm, I think you were," I said, grabbing his collar to join my lips with his again. So, for the rest of the afternoon, we didn't get our homework done.

I've been rolling around "Wade West" in my head ever since that issue came out but idk it just isn't clicking with me. Something's off about the way it sounds. Wally West, Wade Wilson, Jai West, Walter West, Irey West... like I'm trying out characters with similar names and whatever they have that makes their names Work is missing here. Maybe it's just me lmao

This is going to be controversial because we are once again going to be discussing the pronunciation of Irey and Jai's names.

Here's the thing. Last time I spoke about this I was very surprised that people thought Irey was pronounced 'I-REE' and not 'I-RAY'. Additionally, people thought that Jai was pronounced 'J-EYE' or 'J-EE' and not 'J-AY'.

I can understand the confusion surrounding Jai's name. You would typically see the spelling and assume that his name was similar to 'Kai' or 'Tai'. And there probably are people with the name 'Jai' who would pronounce it differently. But here Jai was named after Jay Garrick and his name is pronounced the same way. They just wanted a different spelling to a) loop in Linda and the kid's heritage and b) make it easier for the reader to understand who the characters are talking about. (In the written medium it's confusing to have Jay and Jay but clear to have Jay and Jai)

When you listen to the interviews with the Flash writers, they all pronounce 'Jai' as 'Jay'.

Iris, in a similar situation as her brother, needed to be differentiated from her aunt with the same name, so they came up with the nickname Irey. It's like the name Rey or Ray but with an I in front. 'Irey' and 'Jai' rhyme. And again, yes it is pronounced 'I-RAY' because that's how the Flash writers pronounce it as well.

Anyway, I'm mentioning this controversial topic again because both kids have the 'AY' sound right before 'West'. Wally has the 'EE' sound right before 'West'. In all three cases the y sound, whether hard or soft, just flows well before their last name.

Wade West just doesn't flow well. Say it out loud. At least for me, it requires slowing down to clearly pronounce the 'd' in Wade. You have to do it again for the 't' in West. Idk, maybe it's just me but for such a short name having two places where you really have to enunciate makes it clunky sounding. Not like Wally West, Jai West or Irey West where the only place where the tip of your tongue has to touch the roof of your mouth is at the end.

Like, Way isn't a name but say Way West out loud. It sounds way better. It feels better to say. Just take the 'd' out and the entire vibe changes. Or make it longer. Making up a ridiculous name... Wadillion West. The length just makes it way easier to say.

Idk. This is way outside my area of expertise but at least for me, I find that I really have to enunciate the d or it sounds like 'Way' and it just sounds awkward because of that.

I do like the name Wade though. I like what it stands for. I like the thought. Maybe we can come up with a nickname?

hi! ive been staring at this ask in my messages for a bit and ive been trying to work up the motivation to write so here we are! if you have any questions definitely feel free to dm me!

dae is just kind of her own thing! 'what species is dae?' is one or the questions i am asked most commonly so i'm not super shocked to see it here but i would say she fits into a wide variety of categories overall. deities work in a neat way in this universe so i'll write that down below the cut.

so, basically, the thing that distinguishes gods(or nebula-born, if you do not want to call them gods) from mortals is not a power level or anything like that, but the fact that they are composed of mana, not meat. effectively, mana is a dark matter-like substance in that it is not observable in most circumstances and is most common around sources of radiation, especially nebulae. it has rules, though, and can congeal like regular matter and form masses. if a mass grows large enough, it starts to form a sort of boltzmann brain, forming a nascent consciousness that can interface with other nearby mana 'brains.'

eventually, it finds something that interests it or that it has aptitude with, and will explore its relationship with it. over time, while also accumulating more mana to boost its processing power and capacity for intelligence, the nascent consciousness begins to form boundaries with the world around it, defining its sense of self and gaining a physical form, the shape of which is to its choosing. when it is happy with its physical form and the amount of mana--translating to magical power--it has, it becomes corporeal, a fully formed god. this method of formation means that gods rarely have just the one form and can choose several, being shapeshifters in their own right.

now, most gods form with a lot of power and control over their domain. dae is what you get when this process is botched, with a sense of boundaries established and a physical body created before an adequate understanding of ones' domain is acquired, as well as taking less time to accumulate magic before becoming corporeal and ceasing to accumulate it naturally. the result is a goddess that has some control over her domain but has flareups of power, lower general magical ability compared to most gods, and, in many circles, a reputation as a bit of a failgoddess, which she fit pretty well overall given that she's altogether not very outgoing, content to push out litters, get high, nerd out, and cum a concerning amount even for a fertility deity.

as well, because of this method of formation, dae is canonically trans! she had to do the usual transition process before her control over her domain grew such that she could make her testes generate estrogen, with her insisting that they're called estres now. she stopped short of changing her voice because she likes having a deeper, rather husky voice.

as for other species, there are a few, and i'll go over them very briefly.

soterians (so TEAR ee uns); an aquatic race of rather bulky leviathan-like creatures, hailing from a planet that was once a ravaged ecosystem, evolving to gorge themselves almost nonstop on an invasive fish that previously dominated their ecosystem

ozkvin (OSK vin); a species created by stationaryspoon/@eitantree and myself; the descendants--indirectly, through DNA injection-based transformation--of an ancient race wiped out by its star's supernova, prone to random mutations and rapid, extreme pregnancies. eusocial!

sekvanto (sek VON toe); a species created by dae, which started small and gradually grew to be quite numerous due to their inherited fertility. once the default for what she'd birth, but no longer. two head tentacles, a sharp snout similar to dae's, multiple sub-eyes to help with peripheral vision, and tall stilt-like feet. bears the mark of Dae in a random place on their bodies.

gvidanto (gvee DON toe); another species created by dae. far fluffier than the sekvanto, with softer details overall; quite rarer as well. the species of her first and primary worshipper, Sedett. born without eyes, but blessed with magical sigils of sight if they so desire. bears the mark of Dae typically over where their womb would be, but there are exceptions. generally proficient with sigilcraft, the practice of inscribing magically charged sigils personal to each gvidanto to act as enchantments.

yvvs (ihvs); semi-humanoid amphibians with gills, four sexes, an extremely planned civilization, and a wealth of technological knowledge that they rarely find the need to put to use due to their planning. known to be nudists, but largely because clothes were never all that useful underwater for them.

xeiskenn (ZAYS ken); if you've seen my cock transformation content with my sona, it's pretty close to that. a symbiotic intelligent species that supplants your reproductive system and your tail, if you have one, in exchange for access to their inborn magic resistance, as well as their own aptitude with magic. rarely seen, but impossible to miss. how they evolved is a mystery, but some suspect the involvement of a god of promiscuity long ago.
