How do you go about getting ideas for arcs? I’m struggling to figure out what I want to do with my character :(

Great question! This happens to be one of my absolute favorite parts of writing and pkmn irl itself. I've always been more of an ideas guy myself. I hope you don't mind but I decided to turn this into a bit of an overall tutorial for planning and writing arcs. Feel free to ask for any specifics because I could delve into my personal process for arc brainstorming, but I was admittedly writing this before getting ready for work and this post was getting kinda long haha

Knowing where to draw inspiration from can be a good place to start. It's wonderful to be inspired by music, a movie or tv show, a book, or even other people in the community and their writing. Ask yourself what elements of that thing draw you in. What do you like? What would you maybe do differently? I must mention though to be respectful of the work other blogs have put into their writing. Being inspired is a wonderful thing, lifting exact details or passages is not. If you're unsure, there's no harm is asking!

The most helpful thing I can tell you right off the bat is that you want to find out how to brainstorm. In schools they'll often try to teach you ways of brainstorming and outlining to structure your essay writing, if you're lucky they might even mention that there are multiple ways you can do this. The ones in school never worked for me personally, so for a long time I assumed brainstorming and outlining was a complete waste of my time and would launch straight into my writing drafts. But as I wanted to write more complex things and I wanted to indulge in more creative writing, I found myself getting stuck all the time. The truth is brainstorming is a helpful tool, but you have to know what type of brainstorming works best for you. Flowcharts, bullet points, stream of consciousness, word clouds, moodboards, drawings, whatever it is that gets your creative juices flowing. In my experience it works best to remember that not every one of these elements will make it into the final arc. You want to get your ideas down first and trim the excess later. I personally pay for a program (Milanote) that allows me to brainstorm in the methods that work best for me, but by no means do you have to pay for a program to do this. Pen and paper works just fine.

The next thing you wanna do is establish what you want your arc to do. Not every arc has to be a grand character development, but all arcs do something. No matter how small that something may be, something has to change as a result. Maybe your character meets a new person, obtains a new Pokemon, gets a new scar and a story to tell their friends, or maybe all they got was a t-shirt. If you already had a loose concept for your arc this can help you hone it. You can start asking yourself, "how does my character reach this point?" and work up to that. Map out what you think your character would do when dropped into a particular situation. This can also help you to establish the tone you want your arc to take. Is it silly and lighthearted or is it more serious and high stakes? Refer to the stakes tag post about proper tagging.

It can help to conceptualize your arc as a series of events rather than a single event. This allows you to understand how many posts you may need to split the arc up into, how much time the arc may take, or other hard to sort details.

These things ramp up when you start to incorporate more people into your arcs. Planning with your fellow writers is extremely important and that requires a lot of communication. Some writers prefer to do what we call pre-writing, which is typically you and the other writers get together and write out the posts in advance. This gives people the chance to look over each other's writing and make edits before the posts go live. Planning discords are useful for keeping things organized, but google docs or other collaborative writing programs can work just as well if those better suit your needs. Organize who is posting what and generally at what time, especially if the post involves other people's characters.

Remember all of this is for fun! These are not hard rules you need to follow. You should not force yourself to write things you do not like for the sake of others or for an imagined audience. Write what you want to write.

really the two keys to posting art is 1. knowing how to use tags, and 2. having a dedicated art blog

tumblr only tracks the first 20 tags on a post, everything after that is Just For Funsies. tracked tags will show up in search, both for the whole website and on your blog.

if you're not sure what tags to use, see what other popular posters are using! i think i mentioned this in my tumblr guide post, but generally you want to tag fandom, characters, ships (if applicable), and any AUs or similar things. oh, and content warnings if those apply, too. then if you want you can try stuff like mediums and other general tags, that'd be your #art, #illustration, #fanart, #fanfic, #digital art, #(program you used), etc etc. you don't really have to use those, but if you want to keep your blog Super Extra Organized or if you're posting original content with no fandom tags to lean on then they are good options. (you can use things like #ocs, #original characters, #character design, #concept art, and genre tags for those!)

really tagging comes down to: if i wanted to find content like this post, what tags would I look in?

You want to have a dedicated art blog so you can keep your art front and center, if people have to dig to see your art or you post a lot of content they aren't familiar with aside from your art, they are less likely to stick around or follow you! this goes for all social medias really, not just tumblr. it's okay to make the occasional non-art related post, you don't have to completely separate art and artist here, but if you have an art blog you want it to be 95% things pertaining to your work. I have a main blog where I post everything that isn't my art, but occasionally I will reblog important things here or share other artists work because it's good that artists support each other :D

TL;DR - Get familiar with tumblr's tagging system and what the popular tags are for the types of artwork you want to post, and have a dedicated art blog! 💖

Bonus tip: Not everyone is online at the same time, and many people don't scroll to the bottom of their dashboards to catch up on every post they missed. You can schedule your posts so you post consistently at the same times, and you can schedule a reblog of your post later in the day. I for example will make all relevant art posts at 12PM CST, and I set the post to reblog at 8PM CST. The tumblr userbase is more active in the evenings, so if you don't post around that time it's definitely good to reblog things then!

Trent trained Volstrucker in trios with the intention of only bringing two into the ranks. At the end of their training, when they've all proven themselves (killed ther families) and he's encouraged very codependant (or even romantic) bonds between them, their final test is for the two he has decided will continue will assassinate the third to show their skills at taking out an unsuspecting target, and prove that they will obey at all costs.

📗 Do you want to write something outside of fanfiction? If so, what about?

Like any good writer, of course I do! I'd likely stick to YA or Adult sci-fi/fantasy (similar to what I write in fic) as that's my passion!

My most developed story focuses on a secret organization that acts as basically Fantasy Cops in that they police all things Not Human and make sure those things Stay Secret from Humans. There was a mix of political intrigue as some of these Fantasy Cops were trying to organize a Big Arrest (read: kill) in order to become Ruler of the Fantasy Cops. There was heavy religious imagery involved and especially in how it was all about controlling people rather than actually spiritual. There was of course several other characters who were either born into the non-human side of things, or found their way there. Multiple povs, all intersecting to an eventual Cool Big Fight. Yes I was in high school when it started.

This blog is old enough (it started after high school) that there's a tag for this story (Amantes) but the posts are almost all 10 years old at this point so....

💭 What inspires you and your writing?

I'm ALL about characters, so it's usually something juicy to do with a character dynamic within themselves that I wanna poke at more (the Switch the Beat series was wanting to zero in on Shiro's drive to live at all costs), or the dynamic between several characters that I want to draw out (the a life of little things series (Fealty) is one of these).

Or I'm listening to a song and get hit with the visual of a Very Cool Scene/Moment and now I gotta figure out how to earn it. (To Exist Again's ending scene of Sam unleashing his psychic/magic potential despite Death himself warning him off, was inspired by the big finale of Ghost Love Score.)

this is such a dumb question, but how did you start your blog? like, how do you even put yourself out there?

this isn't a dumb question at all!

this isn't my first blog, i actually had another where i posted stranger things content/fics. i had the tumblr acc for a while to read fics and i decided i wanted to post my own so i literally just sat down and wrote a steve x eddie fic (we don't talk about it) and posted it. and then later that night i made a masterlist which took me forever to figure out.

honestly, i recommend just looking at other people's blogs for inspo and figuring out how you wanna organize your blog, like for me, in particular, i have my navigation, various custom tags i use, request rules, and a masterlist. none of these things are required at all but definitely help just get everything in order.

for beginners, i recommend navigation and a masterlist at the very least. it doesn't have to be fancy or anything like that because the great thing about tumblr posts is that you can edit them so you can change them up as many times as you want.

my first masterlist was super simple it literally just had masterlist as the title and the name of the fic and the link. it doesn't need to be fancy or anything it just needs to be functional.

i initially didn't have a navigation and it wasn't like awful to the point where everything was falling apart but having one definitely helps. you can put all your links to your important posts like the masterlist and explain a little about you (optional) and you can even put your request rules on the navigation. (personally, i like using a different post so my nav isn't super cluttered!)

custom tags aren't needed but they keep all your stuff in one place. like for example i wrote/write for wednesday and death note on this account. i don't write for wednesday anymore so trying to find all my wednesday fics would mean a lot of scrolling but if i just look up the tag i correlated with all wednesday fics they're all in one place now.

if you're just starting out you might not wanna take requests because they can be overwhelming. when i first started writing for wednesday it was a super popular show i think it came out like 3 or 4 days before i started writing and i got like 10 requests the first day and was super bombarded. but if you do take requests, rules are a great thing to have, you know things you wont write and anything else you want to be included when someone is requesting like for example "when you're requesting, please specify what gender and/or pronouns" but to be honest not a lot of people read these, so its a 50/50 thing and can always be added later if you decide you want that. (same goes for everything else)

but when you're putting content out there it's important to tag correctly so that your post gets seen, especially if the fandom is small or not super popular at the moment.

i'm still trying to figure out the algorithm myself and how to use tumblr fully so it's okay if you don't get it on your first try! there's always room for error and improvement. and if you're scared about hate or people laughing or anything like that remember that they probably couldn't create something better and that the block button is there for a reason!

Hello! I am Layla and my main blog is @arabianflowers! This is a roleplay blog for the character Twilight Sparkle from the My Little Pony franchise by Hasbro and Lauren Faust! My Little Pony was my favorite show when I was little and meant a lot to me. Twilight Sparkle was always my favorite, and when I saw a few My Little Pony roleplay blogs circulating on Tumblr, I couldn't resist making a blog for my favorite purple princess!

literally where do i even start. i love her so much that she's legit like, one of my fave fictional female charas!!! i love how sensible and logical she is, and how kind and sensitive she is too. those two sounds like opposites of each other but she balances having both traits so well. i just think she is such a great otome protagonist and if any company wants to try and write a good "self insertable" protag who is both convincing and cute they should look to her. loml 🧎

he's a funny funky guy!!! he's my blorbo in law cus both you and angel (my other friend) like him. so i kind of get appreciation through osmosis. tbh i dont have a lot to say about him bc i think his character as a standalone is simple, but when he's in a group setting? i think that shines the most. i actually talked w angel a bit about this but we were discussing how vyn is afraid of losing rosa emotionally while marius is afraid of losing rosa physically. i read his personal card where he gets a panic attack after rosa gets kidnapped and that ending was literally..... the most poetic shit i've ever read. LIKE. his personal story and card just super appeals to the poet / artist in me bc the twist in words, the symbolism, the rose and the snake that takes turns to guard each other.... im screaming and wailing and throwing up. vyn could NEVER tbh, he's very deliberate and his acts of affection still has an underlying feeling of wanting to impress rosa at all times and to show his heart to her, but w marirosa it literally feels like they're romantic soulmates bc of the writing. does that make sense? like it feels so organic and romantic in a way vyn's measured actions and words can't replicate. i went feral at this part

i started out thinking my fave would be artem cus vyn seemed too pretentious for me at first and i still have trauma from the last time i liked a white haired and golden eyed guy in otome cus that bitch disappointed me so much i literally can't even look at him without going >:T

he's such a cool character to me, i love how contradictory he is while being completely consistent characterization wise. by contradictory i don't mean that he doesn't say what he mean or doesn't mean what he says, but the way he views himself vs how he views rosa vs how he views other people (derogatory) is quite ironic. i love how he loves rosa because she's beautiful both inside and out, in the sense that she is straight laced, honest and not mired with existential or moral complexities that stop her from being kind, realistic and faithful to her values. (in fact, when facing those moral complexities, her true character shines more because of the way she isn't stagnated by indecision or analysis-paralysis. but that's another talk for another day i could literally go on and on about her)

i like it a lot because he's both a bit of rosa in him and a bit of the cynical jadedness he dislikes in other people. as a doctor, he wants to cure his patients, and he secretly harbours some hope, at the back of his mind, that people are better than he thinks they are, that when presented the opportunity for change and growth they'll choose it— which is why i think he "tests'" rosa in his stories so much. cus he wants to see a diff outcome come from her!! to him, i feel like there's a bit of him idealism projected onto her, smth like saying: "i tried and failed, but i want to see how you do it, and what new thing you'll show me with your way of doing things." in ideals and visions, he relates to rosa.

however, in many ssr stories, and even one sr (the iconic false tears story) he shows the pettiest and most spiteful parts of himself that he's tried to keep hidden from rosa, where he indulges his egocentric beliefs that makes him feel like the things he's doing are justified, as long as the end goal is a positive net of "justice" in the world. he also sometimes shows how incredibly judgemental and harsh he can be, because he always thinks he knows better and is more objective / morally superior than other people he dislikes. in practice and methodology, he relates to the people he dislikes. it's like a mirror that shows the ugliest parts of himself. if he dislikes them like any other normal person would dislike an asshole and then move on with their life, why would that be such a big psychological trigger for him? it clearly means more to him than he tries to hide, so he tries to make a clear line separating his own "cruelty" and other people's "cruelty" and how he's better than them cus he had the right intentions in mind.

(that's not how it works btw babygirl. but issokay ur kinda fucked up i'd like to put u under a microscope)

i like how he slowly comes to realise that contradiction, too. not verbally said, but i interpret his recent growth in stories as someone who knows he's "ugly" inside and filled contempt for everyone—although sometimes he dresses his actions in a more gentlemanly or "fair" so that it's still TECHNICALLY the right thing to do even if the way he did it was unethical. at first their relationship progression was "i want her to see the most impressive parts of me" > "i want her to rely on and be influenced by me" > "i want her to know my feelings but only the ones that are peer reviewed to be palatable" > "i want her to see me for who i am and accept me, even if i can't accept the entire truth of myself". and i think that fuckign ROCKS

concluding statement: if the road to hell was paved with good intentions vyn is building a freeway. but rosa is changing his lanes!!! she changed my lanes too if u know what i mean wink wink nudge nudge

i like him!!! iirc he was my second 5* after jean? and then i used him as a dps for a while! i wish they gave him fluffier or longer hair. i think in game diluc doesn't really do enough justice to his characterization or lore bc i feel like he looks a bit "bland" in story execution compared to the other charas. oh well, virtues and vices of being an early game chara! i like him best when he's in big brother mode and i cannot thank fanartists enough who portray him being a good big bro to the kids like klee, diona, bennett, fischl and razor. i love it!!!

she's so goddamn FUNNY and cute?????? i like the progression of her character and her growing into her own personality in the recent quests, i think they wrote it really well. have you listened to her voice lines where she talks w paimon? they show sm of her personality and she's just so... witty and dry and sarcastic but her voice is so soft that it makes u double-back and go, "sorry, run that by me again?" i love her sm. although, i don't really interact w the fandom a lot because they're very noisy in hating her for some reason. and it gets tiring to hear TwT i get my lumine food from anng rt'ing stuff on twt or on tumblr! consuming fandom the exact way it was intended: i only see what my friends will share w me!!!

another case of sadly being an early game chara so his execution was a bit sloppy TwT his lore is so funkin cool and his personal story and how he got his vision was, imo, the coolest and most emotionally impactful out of everyone else? ofc he and shenhe shares similar patterns in their history and how they were treated, but i think it hits harder for me bc like. GOD. overridden by guilt for the death of diluc's dad, he confronts him and tells him the truth of who he is. and at the emotional height of his life where diluc turns to fight him, he's given a vision if only to protect himself and his heart so that he can still go on and fulfill whatever "destiny" his dad had marked out for him, if he chooses that as his right.

i still think its meaningful bc even in game diluc never shows any signs that he genuinely, truthfully, dislikes kaeya. so while they still have this unspoken history between them that neither of them seem willing to talk about, there's a nostalgic and sad feeling of people who drifted apart brushing by each other time and again, and silently forgiving the other but not making it known at all. i can't find it rn but there's sm diluc and kaeya comics where its all about sibling hurt / comfort and reconciliation and making it known that they care about each other verbally, instead of accepting it as is in actions, bc they're hesitant to break the ice. GOD

The idea that I tag stuff so people will find it is how I know you're of the social media generation (everyone's always trying to troll!) and therefore not mature enough to understand that tags are also for keeping blogs organized. Hi there! I'm riouri, and I like love Stranger Things and I also love writing.

I take requests, and since this is the pinned post, just sneak a peak at the line above. The open/closed word will be highlighted when requests are open/closed.

The requests I take: I mainly write SFW but I will sometimes write smut. I mainly write romance imagines [only for Billy, Steve, Eddie] but I write daily life/friendship imagines as well [for mainly all of the kids]. I usually write imagines, but I also do drabbles, so make sure to clarify if you want a drabble. I have a character page on my desktop theme, here! It only includes the trio (Jab, Aleksey and Jeremy) right now but I plan on adding Milan and Echo too.

I have tags for all my ocs too, they look like this: "oc:jab", "oc:jeremy" and so on. I also have a tag for the trio ("thetrio") and my ocs in general (about my ocs).

I try to be consistent with tagging but it's probably a bit messy + tags sometimes glitch on my blog and doesn't show all the posts. 😭

+ I'm currently writing down everything about the trio! A lot of it I just keep in my head but my friend adviced me to write it down. Maybe I should try to find a character sheet so it's more organized. Then I could share it if anyone would like to see. 🤔

Hello, dear! I wanted to compliment you on how organized your blog is with the navigation pinned so I don't have to go searching through the tags and I- well, it just makes my inner perfectionist super happy.

I was hoping I could give you a promt for everyone's favourite butler Sebastard (heh)? I've noticed that you've already written about a reader who was very desperate for the demon but what if it were the other way around?

Hmm. Ok. So. Here me out.

I see a lot of fanfics were Sebas gets the better of the protagonist character. I guess because they are supposed to be self inserts and relatable but screw that. What if we take that trope and flip it on to its head? Hmm? I wanna see someone take Sebastian's shit and throw it right back at him.

So the female (human) protagonist has a wit of iron, a tounge of steel, and a cunning that rivals even Ciel. She is flirtatious, sarcastic, salacious, and for whatever reason, completely immune to Sebastard's demonic charms. But is totally willing to taunt him about it. The scenario would be based around his perspective, his reaction and exploring the dynamic that kind of relationship would cause. Will they? Won't they? Tension so thick even Sebastian could not cut it with one of his butter knives.

The circumstances in which the protagonist enters Sebastian's life is entirely up to you. You can choose how sfw or nsfw, whichever will be the most fun for you. I am just here for a good game of cat and mouse.

And because Sebs needs to suffer.

Sebastian Michaelis x Reader

It was only meant to be a few days that she would be staying at the Phantomhive Manor. I asked the young master what was the point of this feckless arrangement, but of course I never received a definitive answer. According to the young master, Y/N was in urgent need of a temporary stay while she traveled throughout Europe. She’s meant to be in Bordeaux, France, if I’m not mistaken. While I am not one to outwardly question my young master’s decisions, I can not help feel like this woman isn’t here for the right reasons. Oh, how merely a snow storm can wreak so much havoc within a week. It’s been the fifth day of this lingering unsettlement I have felt; her invulnerable manner is excruciating to withstand. Whomever is in my presence is aware that I am the leading man, and those around me shall remain docile. Y/N refuses to take that hint and while at first I thought she was dense, I realized that in fact she is just stubborn as a mule.

“Good morning!” I hear Y/N’s voice behind me. I turn to face her reluctantly, unsure how this interaction will go. She stands with her arms crossed, pushing up her bosom in a way so naughty I almost forget my resentment. A foxy smile —no, cunning— creeps onto her daring lips, as she teases her tongue between her teeth. I feign from reacting, for it’s only been a minute. “Oh Lady Y/N, what a wonderful surprise,” I try to remain pleasant, with a smile.

Y/N approaches me, brushing past my arm, “I was speaking to Lord Phantomhive, sir.” She stops beside me and tilts her head quizzically, “What an untrue statement you made… I thought you never tell lies. Isn’t that right?” She whispers bitingly, then diverts her attention to the Young Master. Her face visibly softens and she carries on with her morning greetings.

The way she struts around is immaculate. She doesn’t carry herself with her head as if she’s needy or desperate, or with her feet as if she’s cowardly, she leads with her chest. It’s a sign of authority and comfortability. But why would she be comfortable in my presence? The presence of a demon?

“Y/N, the weather is still nasty. I see that you won’t able to leave for the next few days. Hopefully, that is okay with you,” says Young Master.

“It’s fine, my lord. I enjoy staying here, anyway. Thank you for showing me your hospitality —even on such short notice.”

They continue talking as I run about, making sure the other servants are not destroying the mansion with their half witted decisions.

“Sebastian, take Lady Y/N down to the laundry. She said her undergarments must have been mixed up with Mey-rin’s,” says Young Master, stopping me outside his study.

“Yes, my lord.”

The walk to the laundry room is silent, but Y/N’s presence is as loud as ever. I open the door and lead her into the room, pointing to the clothesline. I watch as she gets up on her toes to pull some undergarments down and I assume she needs help.

“Lady Y/N, do you need my assistance?”

“Did I ask for your assistance?” she quips.

“Well no, my lady. I am only offering my services,” I speak through gritted teeth.

“Hm, services… What kind do you offer? Are you some type of butler escort?” Y/N questions sarcastically.

Her attitude just won’t do. I think she needs to be reminded of her place. I pluck the undergarments from her hands and place them behind my back, towering over her. I sigh and glance down at Y/N, “Maybe someone should teach you how to act more ladylike ...I provide those services as well.”

She tilts her head slightly seemingly more interested in my words. It’s time to draw her further in.

“I am certainly not an escort, but I can be a mentor of sorts. Ordering you in the right direction and providing some disciplinary action to get you back on track. During the rest of your stay here I plan on instilling knowledge deep within you.”

Y/N smirks and bats her long lashes up at me. I would ravish her in a heartbeat, if I didn’t hold myself back. Her hands roam up my arms and to my shoulders as she leans in close, her sweet scent tickling at my nose.

“You are quite handsome... but you haven't proven to me that you are worth my time,” she shrugs and pulls away from me. “I do have to commend you on your tempting offer, however.”

This is unbelievable! Not once, have I ever encountered a human who has rejected my advances. This woman is built of steel and forged with fire. My tongue runs across my teeth, feeling a sharp prick and it draws blood. I have been so overwrought, my true form is starting to emerge.

I trap her against the stone wall displaying my vigor, hoping this will intimidate her. She laughs and reaches up to my face cupping my jaw firmly between her fingers. Pulling my face towards her, she speaks above my lips, her breath fanning lightly on my skin. “How does it feel knowing that I can torment you with only a simple quip? Your charms don’t enthrall me, love. Maybe I’ll give in if you try harder.”

She pushes past me to the door and points at the undergarments that are still in my grasp. “Keep those. Perhaps they’ll keep you thinking about me, sir.” Y/N winks and struts out, leaving me in utter awe. Darkness spills throughout the room and energy surrounds me as I exit my human form. Two can play this game, but only one will win, darling.
