Cryptids & Creatures of Folklore Drawtober Day 3 — The Van Meter Visitor

In October 1903, residents of Van Meter, Iowa were terrorized by a bizarre creature lurking around their town. The "visitor” was described as having bat-like wings, sharp teeth, and most notably, a horn in the middle of its head which emitted an unnaturally bright light. Residents reported seeing the creature atop buildings, telegraph poles, and even peering in through windows for several nights throughout the town.

It wasn’t long before the people of Van Meter had enough and pursued the creature to an abandoned coal mine near the town where they were shocked to discover two of the beasts. They fired at the pair only for them to disappear into the mine. They later brought in dynamite and collapsed the entrance to the mine. The visitors were never seen again.
