The Nine Houses are obviously deliberately technologically limited. Aside from having FTL capable spaceships, the most advanced piece of technology that we see in the Houses is "an electric transmitter box, with headphones and a mic." It's not clear entirely what sort of device this is, but it apparently requires you to stick an antenna out the window.
On New Rho, Cam has a beeping, and therefore presumably digital watch. Nona has to remind her that's it's called a "watch", and not the House term, "clockwork", which rather suggests House timepieces are analog.
There's a projector box embedded in the BoE conference table, which loads an image like dial up internet because they are "using shortwave" - presumably shortwave radio, which can transmit pictures. As We Suffer apologises for the slowness of the image loading because of shortwave, that suggests that other methods of transmitting an image do exist, but that for whatever reason they're not using those. Perhaps they do normally have something akin to the internet, but this is down due to the conditions on New Rho, or being avoided due to House or inter-cell monitoring.
The audio of Juno Zeta's proof of life is on "a little piece of electronics, a fingernail-shaped thing with prongs", which sounds like some kind of drive.
We also see We Suffer in the impromptu command centre in the tunnels with "a headpiece and a flip-top computer", presumably being used for some kind of communicatons or planning.
And of course, there's Cam and Pal's recorder, which from the descriptions of it making squeaks and garbled noises sounds rather like it might contain a cassette tape.
A paramilitary group on a beseiged planet may not be the best evidence for the level of technology outside of the Houses, but if it is in any way indicative, non-House society doesn't seem to have non-space travel technology beyond things that would have been available in the early 00s.

I'm not a cosmere theories freak but I do have one theory I'm very passionate about which is that the pure tones of Roshar sound like sine wave synths! Let me explain :) I am taking "pure" to mean "consisting of only one note (and no overtones)", which is basically the definition of a sine wave. A sine wave is the representation of a single frequency with no harmonics and is considered an acoustically pure tone. Sine waves don't occur naturally - real world sounds always have overtones, in varying quantities. We can synthesize sine waves, however, and they sound like this (I played it in different pitches so you can get an idea of the timbre):

So this is what I imagine it sounds like when Dalinar opens a perpendicularity, or when singers hear pure notes in highstorms. And because the sound of a sine wave is so unnatural, it would really stand out and feel otherworldly on a planet that doesn't have modern technology - and I feel like that fits the description.
We also know that it's possible to use tuning forks to play the three pure tones of roshar and pull the matching types of light out of gemstones. While acoustic instruments can't produce a truly pure note (aka a sine audio wave), tuning forks come pretty close. They initially produce high overtones, but those fade out quickly, and then the forks keep resonating with a pure tone. It makes sense that tuning forks are the closest Rosharan humans can get to synthesizing a sine wave!
There's also the fact that Raboniel can sing the pure notes and get the lights to respond, while Navani can't. Is it just because Raboniel's pitch is more accurate, or do singers have an physiological ability to produce notes with less overtones? This is really interesting to me...
And one more fun thing to consider. You know what other instrument comes pretty close to producing a pure tone? The flute! Hoid gave Kaladin a flute... idk if it actually has any reasoning behind it but I really hope it does 😂 imagine how cool it will be if it will be used for musical magic system stuff

Hello! Rather new to your blog so I don't know if this has been touched on before but I have a blind character, a few things I was wondering was a) what are fundamentals you shouldn't forget when writing a blind character so I can make her writing a bit more accurate and b) what else can blind people do for entertainment besides reading in braille? Thank you in advance!

Your first question is very broad and I'd suggest taking a look at the pinned post for some links to helpful posts. Under the "specific disabilities" section is a list for blind characters. I believe you'll find those helpful.
For your second question, there's so many options out there!
Something to remember is that most blind people have some remaining vision and many can still read print books, especially if they have access to large print versions or E-books with adjustable text sizes. My eyes aren't great but I'm still able to read regular sized print books if the font size is standard and clear. I can also read books with smaller print with the help of magnifying glasses. Depending on your character's level of vision, this could be something to consider.
For indoor/chill activities similar to reading, many are already accessible to blind folks or can easily be made accessible.
Watching TV/films, for example -- with or without audio description. Nowadays with streaming services and the internet, there is more availability of audio description. That said, it's still not always available. There are also some genres of shows/movies that are easy to follow along with even without audio description. I find that sitcoms such as New Girl or Modern Family are easier to follow compared to crime or medical dramas such as NCIS or House.
Listening to content without a visual aspect such as audiobooks, podcasts, and video essays (to a degree) can also be an option.
Playing cards/boardgames is another one. There are braille playing cards that you can buy and many classic board games (such as Scrabble or Monopoly) have braille versions available -- though usually unofficially. You can also get braille or otherwise tactile pieces custom made.
Braille labels are also a thing so games like poker, checkers, etc. can easily be made accessible too. Or, if you're cheap like me, the dollar store has those little raised stickers. My vision is especially bad in bright light so I've spent summers playing checkers and backgammon with little raised flower stickers on top of all the white pieces.
Art and sports also exist. Though blind people can paint and draw, there are also other forms of art that are more tactile such as sculpting, origami, jewelry making, etc. Many solo sports also wouldn't need any major accommodations either -- such as kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, skating, sledding, jogging, etc.
I can go on and on and on listing hobbies/activities -- herping, bird-watching, traveling, theatre, writing, music, dance, video games, cooking/baking, animal training, Dungeons and Dragons -- but my point is: most hobbies/activities can be made accessible for your character.
One piece of advice I'd offer for this: don't choose your character's hobbies based on what would be the most accessible/easiest for them to do. Pick your character's hobbies based on what they'd be most likely to be interested in/enjoy and then go from there to figure out how they can do it.
This would go a long way in preventing your character from falling into certain problematic tropes/stereotypes and can also help you develop your character further.
When figuring out how your character can partake in their hobbies, consider the following questions:
What do they want to get out of the hobby? Is it something they do to relax? To stay in shape? To learn/develop a skill?
What kind of means do they have at their disposal? Are they able to afford/access actual assistive tools/technology/devices such as a braille labeler, audible ball (for sports such as football, soccer, etc.), or braille cards or do they have to DIY something?
How much time/money do they dedicate to this hobby? Is it just a passing interest or is it a passion of their's?
Do they have friends/family members with the same hobbies? Do they share materials with them? Do they do the hobby together?
Is there a disability community for the hobby?* Are they involved in the community?
*Some hobbies such as parasports have a more close-knit community and, depending on where your character's located, there may be recreational leagues for parasports they could join. There are also many artists collectives specifically for disabled artists/writers.

Semi-live/retrospective analysis of Lux!

Again, some of my scattered thoughts watching the episode! Not nearly as long this time, with quite a bit less character analysis. I managed to finish my analysis before the episode's live airing was complete this time (I watched on iPlayer), so am posting right as it finishes!
The newsreel is interesting - very Oppenheimer. Is this story going to link to nuclear bombs? Between this, 73 Yards, and Years and Years, I'm getting the feeling that RTD is really tense about our "New Cold War" era.
Love the old cinema technology being applied.
So it's connected to the moonlight? I assume this is some sort of special radiation hitting the moon or something, and not coming from the Moon itself, otherwise we're going to have to somehow weld this into Kill the Moon.
Man, Gallifrey really is the elephant in the room this era, huh.
"Who have you got? Girlfriend, boyfriend, otherfriend?" Bi / enby rights! Also, interesting using the term "other" for non-binary genders again - we got that before with Sutekh as "Father and mother and other of them all [the Pantheon]". Particularly considering the notability of that word in DW lore. Maybe the Nechronomancers' worship of a genderless "Seventh Founder" was right on the money?
Why the fuck did they just play a bit of Amy's theme when Belinda talked about her parents?! Hello?
Wait a sec, is the "v-indicator" doing exactly what I theorised the TARDIS was doing last week?! Trying to pull its way back to Earth only to end up pulling these historical nodes/landmarks to it?

Continuing to love the historical costumes. Glad Fifteen is clearly particularly into this part too, no "changing jumpers" here.
The direct parallel with The Devil's Chord in getting dressed is an interesting choice.
*looks at his hand* "1952... that might be wise..." 😬 Also explicitly discussing segregation with the diner and cinema later is good. I was wondering for a sec when they were at the bar what the laws regarding that would be at this time/place.
"Now you've got your own soundtrack." Oh, more non-diegetic music then huh...?
"Don't make me laugh... because it sounds like this!" AHHHH! So the theories that Mr Ring-a-Ding / Lux was a "God of Light" are true?
"The Harvest Bringer" -> "Harbinger" Goddammit not again! So who's the Harbinger in this case, Rock Hudson? The cinema itself?
Man, the bit with Mr Pie and his wife, with that transition out of the screen and into colour.
The Doctor's description of the Pantheon really highlights the Lovecraftian side of the Whoniverse, huh.

The way being turned 2D gives the Doctor and Belinda 2D personalities too! The dialogue feels so stilted here, but at least it's clearly deliberate, just by sheer contrast with everything else.
The change in audio quality going into the cartoon kinda took me out for a second.
Never mind, forget what I said about Gallifrey earlier. Also emphasis on "Last of the Time Lords"... 🤨
I feel like the cartoon segment could have been a little bit longer, but eh...
The Doctor being able to point out the animation frame (thanks to his fourth wall vision)! I wonder if there's anything to be said about the fact that Belinda was able to interact with it too.
"We've been framed." No kidding. Of course, the nice moment in the diner would get subverted like this, even if the mother's suspicion is kinda understandable, it's hard not to see a racial element in all this.
Belinda being assumed to be Caribbean reminds me a lot of Yaz being called Mexican back in Rosa.

WAIT LITERALLY?! Damn, ok, TV theory truthers... I was wondering why there was glass in front of a movie projection.
This is such a stupid turn, I love it, even if I know some people are going to see this as jumping the shark. The stereotypical Whovians, while clearly an affectionate thing, is a little rough feeling though.
"Blink" lol.
I['d love to see all the merch they put on set here. I clearly see a bunch of the DVDs (New Who and Classic) plus the collections. I've love to know if there's any EU stuff included. I think I see some NSAs?
Oh and the Mad Man with a Box too? Why so much Series 5 soundtrack?
Damn, the inversion with the in-universe fans not being real in the Whoniverse! "We're the sort of characters that don't have surnames" I wonder if RTD saw the TV Theory and stuff, and, while not planning on going anywhere with it, appreciated it enough to incorporate his own version of it. Centreing it around DW fans feels like it only adds to this interpretation, as a response back to the fandom and celebration of fan theories and meta.

Even though we obviously knew the Doctor and the Belinda would get back to their universe, I 100% feel doing it this way is what saves this scene from the "jumping-the-shark" thing I said earlier, and immediately sways my own doubts about it. Knowing the fans are another creation of Lux also weirdly brings us back to the Pantheon vs Fourth Wall thing again.
Oh it's not just Mad Man with a Box... it's straight Words Win Wars being recycled. A bit bombastic for this scene but I'll never say no to it popping up.
This is still a crazy thing for the Doctor and Belinda to go through, especially the latter. How does it change their dynamic? I guess it doesn't need to too much, since she knows it was a fiction, but still, seeing herself as part of a long-running adventure series must be pretty notable nonetheless.
"Bigeneration, it left me with a little pocket of energy I've been saving just for this." OH? I was worried we were going straight up unlimited healing with regeneration energy for a second, but that's actually a fair explanation. A nice fix also for any concerns with the butterfly last series. Again an interesting writing inclusion - I wonder if it's specifically to patch that up, or important exposition on regeneration for later this series [edit: or this episode I guess!]?
"But you're the most amazing creation, my Doctor, sir. You have light within you that builds a body." Uhhh... maybe Timeless Child lore hints? Or less a Timeless Child-specific thing (given Lux still refers to it as the "light of a Time Lord") and more acknowledging the artificiality of Time Lord regeneration?
"Let the light of a Time Lord build me a body!" Yep saw that coming after that line above.

Lux becoming 3D - transitioning from 2D to an untextured 3D model to cartoon-y 3D animation to creepy "realistic" 3D! Why does this start to feel like a commentary on modern 3D and live-action remakes of 2D cartoons?
The Doctor's heartbeat again?! Why on Earth could we have two episodes where we can hear a Time Lord's heartbeat in a row, if not for you-know-who?
(Also again, the beat phase sounds slightly off, which feels very validating for my Time Lord biology idea that it's not always a perfect four-beat between the two hearts.)

The early line of Lux being interested in moonlight, not sunlight feels like it maybe should have been cut, considering sunlight ends up being exactly what he's seeking by the end? I guess he wasn't corporeal yet, but still.
In some way, Lux ascending into nothing could feel a little cheap, but him actually "winning" and becoming a legitimate God of Light is fascinating. Kinda leaves the door open for him to return too.
I thought the 15 were all going to be killed by the explosion for a moment as part of the sacrifice, thank goodless it freed them safely.
Belinda's change of heart, while I kinda predicted it earlier, is a little bit of a shame. I'm sure she's still intent on going home, but would have been interesting to see that stronger tension last a little longer than the one episode.
Mrs Flood?! It was kinda obvious, but that's her confirmed to be a time-traveller now, huh.
"Limited run only. Show ends the 24th." Like... the "show" ends, or the series ends...? I know there's plenty of rumours and speculation about future series, or the possible lack thereof, but...
Also clearly linking back in-universe with 24th May as well...

Overall thoughts
I loved this one! There were a lot of shaky bits - the fourth wall sequence standing out the most - but I felt it stuck the landing in each case, often suprising me doing so. Again I do feel there was a bit of a missed opportunity, mind you, in regards to the limited animated sequence in this case. The ending was a little simple too, but perfectly servicable for a DW episode and a bit intriguing in its own right. (Personally, if I was writing this though, I also would have had Lux's defeat link back to the idea that becoming more 3D means your personality does too, resulting in him becoming less of a 2D unrepentant villain. Would have been a nice meta twist, and the Doctor and Belinda's personality changes as cartoons would have been good foreshadowing. I guess you could argue that happened anyway, given Lux's change of heart in the sunlight.)
I didn't talk about him much, but Lux is a great villain - Alan Cumming was great in this. Mr Ring-a-Ding's animation is so fluid and delightful, makes me wonder if the whole animation budget was used on him, and that's what led to the cut down animation sequence.
The nice resolution(?) of the TV show theory/meta was a surprise, but honestly worked in exactly the way I thought it couldn't! As I said above, I wonder if it was at all inspired in reaction to the fandom theorising itself? The only real evidence against this imho is that the fans didn't explicitly mention the theory itself.
I'm curious how Belinda and the Doctor's relationship will look going forward. She's clearly not as worried about trusting him, but I hope there's still some tension in her wanting to get home.
The implied lore stuff with the Timeless Child / Time Lords' regenerative ability was a nice surprise, as small as it was. Plus the extra bit of explanation on the Doctor's recent regenerative healing. It feels a little ominous we've ruled that out as something that can be used in the future. I wonder if Lux taking that energy will have any effect on the Doctor going forwards? Davros taking it in The Witch's Familiar didn't though, unless you count Thirteen being small compared to other incarnations, so who knows. At least there isn't an explicit cycle to worry about now, though there's no guarantee the Doctor's regenerations are unlimited (in fact, Rassilon in Hell Bent implied exactly the opposite, though who knows how that plays with the Timeless Child stuff).
A little concerned about Mrs Flood's line about the show, as I said above. Not to be a doomer, but I hope we're not about to get an announced hiatus / break for the show... At least Fifteen still having some regenerative energy from the bigeneration gives me hope Ncuti isn't leaving soon, since it would be odd for him to regenerate so soon after still feeling the effects of the previous regeneration (then again, look how long Fourteen lasted!).
More arc plot points hinted at this episode, between Mrs Flood and yet more drumbeating. I guess we need to keep an eye out for more this series? I'm kinda stunned by the whole vindicator thing, since it feels like my theory the TARDIS is / will end up accidentally pulling bits of Earth's history to that barrier might be right on the money? Is this my Apollo's dodgeball moment?

Do you happen to have any resources regarding accessibility in ttrpg design? About design, colours, phrasing of text or anything else that could be helpful!
I spent wayyyyy too long compiling all this - but it's important, and I appreciate you asking!!
Accessibility is a subject near and dear to my heart, and I will say up front that I'm not sure universal (aka accessible to everyone) design is possible, because people's needs can vary even within the same subset of similar disabilities (such as limited vision or blindness). BUT that doesn't mean we don't try to design for and make our games available to as many people as possible. Mismatch by Kat Holmes is a great read on design for accessibility in general, as is Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. You might also check out literally anything Alice Wong has ever done.
To start, I recommend this article on the Lenses of Accessibility.
(for reference, this article is about web/graphic design, so I'm going to try and distill the most salient points for game design)
We are going to primarily focus on a few of these lenses:
Color
Font
Images & Icons
Layout
Readability
Structure
Keyboard
More details under the cut.
Color
Why does color matter? Well, for starters, there's a lot of colorblind people out there. Contrast affects readability. Autistic people and people who suffer from occular migraines might be affected by particular vivid colors. There's lots of reasons to consider color and the work it is doing in your piece, but in general you can provide a black and white, high contrast version of your game to help users.
There are tools out there to figure out if your contrast meets certain readability standards, such as this one.
Font
Dyslexia and other visual processing issues can make font choice really important. Plus, some fonts really affect readability. Additionally, line height, justification, and size of text can affect readability.
Best practice would be to provide a plain-text version of your game (and beware of "dyslexia-friendly" fonts which may or may not actually help - sticking to a basic readability font like Arial, Tahoma, or Verdana, is safest). I like this style guide for reference.
Images & Icons
For visually-impaired people, it's important to use alt-text, descriptions, and/or captions to help screenreaders properly translate images. Tons and tons of details that could go into this, but there are better people than me to describe it.
Layout
We've talked about this a bit, but there's tons of resources for this. There was recently a great writeup about Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast in terms of layout that I highly recommend.
Readability
More of the thing we've already talked about - it really is a combination of all the other lenses that comes down to readability. Audio versions of your game are always a good way to avoid the restrictions of screen readers, but can be expensive to produce.
Structure
This is tables. Tables are a nightmare for screenreaders, but including them as images can also be a problem. The short solution is "don't use tables" but that's not necessarily great for seeing people. The section in this blog is really great when talking about options for structure.
Keyboard
Debated on whether to include this, but given how many games are being read as purely digital files, I think it's important to have workable interactive elements that can be navigated through without a mouse. Some of that is going to come down to the programs being used to open your files. But if there are things you can do on your end (such as labeling form fillable fields on an interactive character sheet), they're worth doing!
Please understand that this isn't an exhaustive list. There's tons of resources out there and technology and standards are constantly changing.
It's also is important to note that even doing one of these things is helpful. You might look at this list and go "wow that's too hard" but I promise you, it's worth it. My games do not all have accessible versions! That's something I'm trying to rectify. The biggest part of that for me is thinking about accessibility from the start instead of at the end! But we can start today, and that's better than not starting.
The most important thing to remember are that disabled people are NOT a monolith - needs will differ from person to person. Accessible design makes gaming better for everyone!

You have established that your version is constantly plagued by processor-splitting headaches. How do you think he'd react to the realization that his headache is GONE when he's around his S/O?
Midnight I've rotated this ask in my head like a snowglobe for weeks - thank you for being one of the biggest fans of Blitzwing on this blog, genuinely love your prompts for the guy.
I didn't even realise I'd put headaches in every headcannon but I went back and reread my stuff and. Yeah - chronic headache is now a Thing. Due to the severity of the triplechanger process it felt a bit 'handwavy-poweroflove-sumthin'-sumthin' to render them GONE, but Better? Better I can do. Hope You Enjoy!

Blitzwing x Reader: 'Headaches'
Ever since the triple changer surgery, Blitzwing has a had a constant, splitting pain in his helm that pain blockers and all manner of defrags won’t touch. (And no it’s not his alters, ha ha funny joke fragging die-)
He’s not sure if it’s somenting physical, and he doesn’t trust Blackarachnia’s surgery technique one iota, but the deed is done. The pain never fades. Sometimes it lances through him so sharply that it forces his audio and visual feed to cut, rendering him blind and deaf at the worst moments.
And on other days it races down his spinal strut and through his wings to the point that even gentle breezes feel like sandpaper, his touch sensors scrambled and sore.
On better days it’s a low, pulsing, grinding ache at the tip of his neck and behind his optics, and at the seams of his faces. One that can be covered up by other, newer pains, or by switching faces so fast he gets dizzy.
Coping mechanisms are coping mechanisms, if you call him out then congratulations for sacrificing yourself to the Decepticon cause for target practice.
Upon meeting you (aka – scooping you off the street for a hostage meatshield and subsequently being told to keep you for a bit), his headache pulsed so badly that his balance teetered and he nearly crushed you in his fist. Great. One more thing to fragging deal with.

Little and often, in snatches and starts. And it isn’t immediately obvious to either party, but there’s a...lightness, creeping in. Like sounds are clearer, and his head has room for more stuff. He shrugs it off and thinks nothing of it, distracted and humming along as you chat about anything and everything - kicking your feet inside his cockpit.
Apparently a quirk of both biology and technology, is that the mind will translate emotional and mental hurt into physical hurt. Ease the former...and the physical will begin to follow.
Huh.
It still takes him several months to recognise that with you and you alone, he loosens up and calms down enough that the pain is lower than it has been in years.

Hey, very sorry about this part taking a while to come out. It's one thing for a comic to take a while, but I feel a little pathetic that it took me over a month to write this part out. Yeah yeah, "self deprecation isn't gonna get you anywhere", I know. Let me do things wrong sometimes. But hey, I did get it complete in time for the big Dragon HRT send off, so that's something I guess. Aik did a lot of being poetic and stuff yesterday with his Fish HRT fanart, I don't wanna bore you by doing the same. (Not like I have anything of the sort to say, anyways.)

“Eight in the morning, February the 9th. … Is that necessary? I’ll admit, I’ve never done something like this. I’ve had some patients of mine send in audio tapes for their transition journals before, for one reason or another, sure, but I’ve never made one myself. I… I just want to be vigilant.”
“That journal that I read a week ago… It still haunts me a little. I know, I know, I contort human bodies into resembling animals for a living, and a simple PDF sent to me via email is what keeps me up at night.”
“But in the days that have passed since I conversed with Doctor Fortune, I’ve been rereading those journal entries in between working with patients. I’ve been picking up on… Details. Unsettling details. The one that gets at me the worst is when the author mentions how the technology behind Animal HRT would ‘go to a much more important use’ if in their hands… Just what do they even mean by that? Furthermore, the author seems to work for a news station, but their descriptions in certain places throughout their entries suggests their workplace has responsibilities far beyond the scope of such a profession. They also seem rather close with and even have some authority over a pair of researchers from a laboratory, as if the two businesses are subsidiaries of another organization. The greater organization both the station and laboratory are under is probably the one Doctor Fortune mentioned in her emails, come to think of it.”
“But back to the point. The reason why I’m recording myself right now. The day that the journal suggested its author would come for me has arrived, and I indeed have several appointments on my schedule today. One of them being for a L. Black. I… feel like it’d be a breach of privacy to give their full name in this recording. But that patient does have the same first initial as the author of the journal, which is arguably the most important detail. I do have the full first name now, mind you, though I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear that the name was generic enough for me to get flooded with results from all sorts of different dimensions when I tried to look them up. In the end, I wasn’t able to get much information on them.” 
“The surname suggests a possible connection to the Black Arms, at least in my opinion. Soon before Doctor Fortune had approached me, I had been given a ‘notice of investigation’ by the Guardian Units of Nations. They’re trying to deter me from ever making or distributing an HRT for the Black Arms, and it honestly does seem similar to what Doctor Fortune is doing. In fact, I did try asking her a few days ago if she was affiliated with G.U.N.”
“She seemed rather offended by the question, chastising me for ‘comparing this situation to a video game plot’... Can she blame me? I work in and for a land between dimensions, for fucks sake…”
“But aside from that, I suppose all I can do now is… wait. Wait and see what Mr. Black does. What they… want.”

“I have an appointment with Doctor Erian at noon.”
“Really? I have an appointment with him too!”
“Heh. Doesn’t sound much like ‘waltzing in here with no notice’ to me.”
“Huh?”
“Oh right, sorry. When I got here the receptionist made a remark about most people treating the place like a walk-in and I found it funny how you’re proving her wrong.” “But it didn’t quite click in time that you wouldn’t have been able to know that context.”
“I see!” “That’s… comforting? Maybe?”
“Hmm?”
“It seems like Erian isn’t the only one around here that’s got a sharp tongue…”
“Is he… known for being harsh?” 
“From what I’ve heard, yeah…”
“That explains some things, then.”
“But anyways, what kind of Animal HRT are you hoping to get on?” 
“Oh, I’m not here to get myself a prescription.” “My friend tried to get on Cat HRT through him but was denied. I’m trying to find out why.”
“Oh…”
“... Sorry if I made you uncomfortable, I-”
“No, you’re fine, hun.” 
“... If you insist.” “Can I assume you ARE looking to get a prescription, then?”
“Yeah.”
“May I ask for what?”
“A-ah, well… I know it sounds crazy, but-”
“No judgement from me, you’re in crazed company.”
“... I want to go on Eldritch HRT.” 
“Eldritch?”
“Y-Yeah. That’s… That’s what I want!”
“How interesting! Do you have a specific entity you want to be like? A cult you want to curate or join? Just how many so-called ‘eldritch entities’ across the realms are you aware of? Are… Are you-”
“I… Haven’t given it all that much thought, to be honest…”
“That’s fine! That just means you’re up for anything, right?” 
“U-Uhm… I guess so?” “You seem… really excited by all this. Are you a fan of eldritch horror too?”
“I guess you could say that~” “Oh-! Where have my manners been? I don’t think I got your name!”
“Did I not give it? Sorry about that, hun!” “Mars ████.”
“Nice to meet you, Mars! My name’s L████. L████ ████.”
“Nice to meet you too, L████!” 
“But back to the Eldritch HRT thing of yours – how many entities are you aware of?”
“Well, I do know a good bit of the writings of HP Lovecraft…”
“Is that it?”
“Is there more I should know?”
“Yes! But that’s alright, I can teach you everything you need to know. Let me just-”
“Mars?”
“That’s me!”
“Shit, is it time for your appointment already? Well maybe we can keep talking after you-”

She didn’t come back to talk to me after her appointment. It seemed that she was pretty upset as she left the building. Did she get rejected too? 
I hope to meet up with Mars again soon. 
I sensed some hesitation in her voice as we talked, but I just know she’d be a perfect fit for us once she learns about us and what we are.
But anyways, nothing of interest occurred in the hour after my conversation with Mars, so I deleted that section of recording as well.
Which takes us right to my meeting with Doctor Erian. 
What a mess that was…

12:00pm, February 9th, 2025
The following is a written recounting by Doctor Theodore H. Erian.
I had originally intended to audio record my meeting with Mr. Black, just like the recording I had made this morning.
However, the moment I saw him, I knew that I would have to get on his level, so to speak. Audio wasn’t going to cut it when it came to conveying the full picture of my experience. 
So here we are.
As I mentioned in my emails to Doctor Fortune, I had gotten many, many results when I looked his name up, but despite all that, he managed to look nothing like any of them in person.
I could sense I was being deceived, or perhaps even toyed with in some way. But I wasn’t sure in what way it was.
After having noticed that, I then took notice of a rather large bag they had slung around their shoulders. Looked to be a laptop bag, by my best guess. I of course remembered what Doctor Fortune had said to me about not allowing him to show me anything on his laptop if they offer, and so I readied myself to refuse anything of that sort.
But to my surprise, he didn’t even do so much as open the bag. 
Instead, when he entered my office, he just… stood there, looking around at the place. This went on for about a minute or two – I wasn’t keeping exact notice of the time.
At first, I had thought that they were eyeing the various types of medication I had stored. But once he opened his mouth, it became apparent that it was something else entirely that had caught their eye…
“Is that an RCA RP3503 shoebox cassette recorder and player you have back there?” 
My recorder, the one I had used to record my personal record from this morning, the one that I had intended to use to document this meeting… That had been what he noticed first.
It's a bit impressive that they identified the exact model, I must admit. Didn’t help with how much they intimidated me in the slightest, though.
“... Yes? Why do you ask?” 
I had responded. I didn’t want to come off as suspicious to him, but rather, just genuinely interested in the conversation. I couldn’t let them know I had seen their journal.
“It’s not often I see a cassette player in the wild these days. Damn shame, I know that phones and mp3 players are more modern and in ways more convenient, and the typical ‘retro throwback’ audio playing format of choice is vinyl, but I really do have such a soft spot for cassettes.”
Really, I was surprised with just how normal this starting conversation was. If I was to be conspiratory, I could even say that it was too normal, as if he was luring me into some sort of false sense of security with this mundane discussion.
“Do you now?”
I replied, allowing the conversation to carry on.
“Yes! Though, I’d rather not get too sidetracked with all that!”
I remember it felt like a pit had dropped into my stomach when they said that. Here I was thinking I could give myself some time to formulate how I was going to respond to him trying to get answers out of me by fueling this clear interest of his. But it seems that they had caught on to that plan of mine.
“The real reason I pointed it out was to ask… You’re not going to use it to record this meeting of ours… are you?” 
He then asked me.
I wish I had been able to somehow record this meeting on video, because I don’t know if words alone can describe the bone chilling aura that the look Mr. Black had given me as they said those words carried. Somehow, his face managed to darken in real time, a shadow cast over the top half of it that made it look as if his eyes were glowing at that very moment. They had tilted their head ever so slightly as they spoke, their face adorned with a subtle, yet noticeable grin, despite the seeming worry that the question carried with it. 
Considering my line of work, I’m quite familiar with the inhuman, and let me tell you – I saw that inhumanness in this man in that fleeting moment.
Despite wearing what looked to be colored contacts of some kind, I could see in his eyes a wildness that was inherently animalistic. 
I know what Mr. Black is here for, and I know it isn’t treatment. But if I hadn’t known better, I may just have been convinced to hand him a prescription right then and there.
Or maybe he is already something other than human. 
I said no, of course not.
“Good, good.”
I don’t know what came over me, but I responded to that remark by asking him if he didn’t like his life being documented. 
“What an odd question…”
As if I hadn’t already regretted my words the moment they came out of my mouth, I certainly would have after that reaction from him.
I was like Icarus in that moment, my wings equipped as I set myself straight towards the sun. I had pushed my luck too far, and they were catching on that I knew more than I should. Surely.
“But to answer it, I do actually like to document my life. But I much prefer it when I’m the one doing the documentation. I’m sure you wouldn’t be too fond of me if I took your chair right there and started giving people prescriptions and check ups, would you?” 
I’ll admit, I’m not entirely sure what they meant by that comparison. He’s a news reporter, isn’t he? I do suppose in a way that is documenting lives, but that’s much more about others’ lives rather than their own, no? 
Either way, I shook my head no.
“That’s what I thought.” 
I really can’t tell why he was so surprised that “B” kiddo and Serena were intimidated by him. He has to be doing this shit on purpose to get a rise out of people.
“Can we get to the point of this meeting, please?” 
I requested. Maybe if I act just as intimidating, I’ll manage to evade ending up in whatever position he wants me to be in.
“Hmph. We may.”
He seemed unimpressed by my shift in attitude, his grin folding into something of a snarl. But he did oblige. 
“It is to my knowledge that a friend of mine, Serena Holmes, came by your office a little bit under a month ago seeking a Cat HRT prescription from you. You rejected her. Why so?”
Perhaps it was the frown they already had from their reaction to me making demands at him, but I could both see and hear the anger coming off of him that I had seen before in that journal of his as they spoke. 
No matter his motives, it does seem he cares about their friend.
“I had gotten a questionable result when I had run a-”
I answered. I knew it wasn’t the answer he wanted to hear, but I couldn’t let them know I knew that.
As expected, they cut me off mid-sentence.
“No. I want the real reason.” 
Despite my patience being worn quite thin by this point, I took a deep breath in and began to formulate a response to Mr. Black. 
My goal, at least at first, had not been to actually tell him the truth. Rather, it was to make up a lie that was believable enough for them to take it as if it was the truth. 
As I did such, they spoke again, unknowingly giving me a hint as to what route I could go down with this lie of mine. 
“And if you are telling the truth, what was the ‘questionable result' you speak of?” 
Looking back, I should have made use of that hint in my response.
“Okay, fine! You want the real reason? I’ll give you the real reason! I turned Serena away because it was clear to me that she didn’t truly know what it was that she wanted!” 
He had raised an eyebrow at my response, clearly skeptical.
“How… interesting. She seemed pretty dead set on being a cat to me.” 
I honestly couldn’t tell if they believed me or not, but they did act as if they did.
“But I suppose my perspective was skewed.”
In a way, that did give me relief. 
Even if it was a ruse on his end, I could also go along with it and feel confident in my responses, at least for a little while.
“But tell me, Doctor Erian… If that is the true reason you turned Serena away… Then why did you tell her it was due to a background check?”
It was a valid question, honestly, and a hole in the plot I was constructing. Hence why I had said earlier that I wished I had just gone down that background check route he had given me.
“I… I didn’t want her to believe I did not believe she was truly therian.” 
With a bit of hesitation, I sputtered out that excuse.
He wasn’t buying it. I could tell by the glare he had given me.
“Then why not be honest with her? You could have explained that they had simply seemed too unsure of kitself to go through with the procedure. You could have given it advice as to how to do some soul searching so that she could come to find her true self. All these things you didn’t do… Why is that, Doctor Erian?”
Their eyes almost seemed to lock onto me as they questioned me. I was a target for them, lined up for slaughter.
Before I could even try to plead my case, he continued.
“To me, there are only two explanations for this. Either you are bad at your job, or…
You’re lying to me.”
With that final explanation – or rather, accusation, he stood up from where I had him sit and slammed his hands on my desk. To be honest, it shook me quite badly. It wasn’t just the delivery, either, the words cut terribly deep as well.
“So, which is it?”
Deep enough to cause me to make perhaps the stupidest decision I’ve ever made in my entire life.
For I had let my ego and reputation get the best of me.
“... I lied to you.” 
I so stupidly confessed. 
Mr. Black grinned, grinning wider than he ever had by that point of the appointment, as he let out a truly evil cackle.
“I knew it.” 
And with that remark, they pushed aside the chair that was behind them, and walked over to behind my desk.
I yelled out to him that he’s not supposed to be back there, but he completely ignored me as he rummaged through my personal cabinets.
They quickly found exactly what I was hoping they wouldn’t. 
“How curious…!” 
He exclaimed, holding the note Doctor Fortune had given me during my first ever encounter with her in his hands.
I felt like I could have died right then and there.
“Looks to me you know a bit too much for your own good, eh, Erian?” 
He then turned to me, a sinister grin still stretched wide across their face while they held up the note, turned over to the backside where she had drawn that blasted symbol.
I wanted to say something at the time, I really did. But I must admit, I was petrified. It really is embarrassing to look back on. 
“Hmmm… one could argue that I should kill you right about now, make sure you don’t go spreading the good word unmanaged.”
They continued to speak as they crept up behind me.
“I don’t even know what that symbol IS!! All she told me was that it was the symbol of your organization!! She didn’t even tell me what it’s called!!” 
I cried out in desperation. As most people do, I didn’t want to die.
Mr. Black paused. His face softened, somewhat. 
He seemed to have realized that I, for once, was being honest with him.
“Who’s ‘she’?” 
He asked me quite plainly.
“D-Doctor Mirai Fortune… She had come into my office a couple months ago and left this warning for me… We’ve… We’ve been talking over email ever since, but she’s very vague about a lot of things…!” 
I confessed. I confessed all of it. I was convinced that I needed to do so in order to live.
“Is she the reason why you turned Serena away?” 
They looked at me with a look of certainty in what he expected the answer to be. But I answered anyway.
“Yes.”
Mr. Black finally sat back down in the chair across from my desk.
“See, was that really so hard?” 
I did not respond. Really, I am terribly repulsed by his sarcastic demeanor. It tends to come off more as patronizing than anything else. 
“I’d love to see those emails, if you’d be so kind.”
I wordlessly turned around my computer monitor for him to look through. I had the thought to warn them not to go into any patient files, but I didn’t act upon it.
“Hah! She really was as vague as you said, huh?” 
He remarked as he read through the emails. I did not react.
“Though, I do see that she let you get a sneak peek at my notes, hmm?”
An arrow of fear shot through my chest, making me worry that they would be angered by this. But much to my surprise, they had simply laughed it off.
“Hey, how about we make a deal, old man?” 
He offered. 
I looked at them, cueing them to continue. 
“I can give you not just these notes of mine, but ALL of my notes, completely uncensored. Any information on that symbol and what it represents you could possibly desire. A brand new market for your Humanity Removal Therapy… All of it, for one simple little price…~” 
I was skeptical. That was a big claim, a big offer. But I pressed further.
“What’s the price?” 
I asked him.
“Yes, yes… All you need to do to start this new chapter in your life… Is to give Serena her Cat HRT prescription.” 
That… couldn’t possibly be all there was to it. 
That was the singular thought in my mind.
It was too simple. There had to be more to it. 
He mentioned “a new market for Humanity Removal Therapy” – for all I could know, that could mean that they would steal my formula right from under me.
It would put me out of a job!
And I can only imagine what Iris would think…
“No. I’m sorry Mr. Black, but I just can’t do that.” 
I responded to him, knowing fully that it could get me killed.
I couldn’t betray my patients like that, though.
I can’t betray Iris like that.
Sure, we butt heads many times, but I would be nothing without any of them.
And above all, I want to see each and every one of them live their happiest lives.
I saw Mr. Black frown in response to my answer. It was surprisingly genuine. He looked… disappointed.
But as he prepared to talk to me, he smiled ever so slightly.
“So that’s why so many read you as a hardass… You’re a stubborn bastard.” 
He remarked.
Again, without waiting for a response from me, they continued.
“I know the feeling.”
After that, he stood back up, grabbed his things, and left.

Subject: Final Email
Hello, Doctor Erian.
I have both listened to the early morning recording of yourself and the journal entry of later in the day that you provided in your previous email.
I am deeply disappointed in how you have handled the situation.
For your trouble in dealing with them and with me, I have provided you with the documentation our adversary made on that day. Consider it a sense of closure, as this is the last time I will ever be contacting you.
While I am glad you resisted the offer to join them, I cannot afford to have cowardice such as yours weighing me down in my fight against them.

He can feel it squirming around in the tangled coils of his guts, a primal, virulent rot that threatens to consume him from the inside out. The Sun Incinerator’s bridge is unusually quiet tonight, with almost everyone spending the evening in their quarters. As such, the only sounds greeting Lars’ ears right now are the dull buzz of their FTL-drive and the gentle chimes of one of the ship’s secondary consoles in the back. (Padparadscha’s making some adjustments to the mainframe parameters, hoping to secure them more malleable control over each system’s energy output.) It makes for a rather meditative scene… focusing on these lulling, almost formulaic bits of white noise as he peers through the glass and watches entire stars and solar systems zip by as nothing but razor thin tendrils of light, the very fabric of space warping and folding around their ship in a myriad of hypnotizing colors. Content to simply be in this peaceful silence, he stretches back in his captain’s chair, allowing a wide smile to rejuvenate his countenance. There’s genuinely nothing more relaxing in all the universe than this.
Though, as he begins to muse upon today’s chaotic ventures of choice, it occurs to him that he hasn’t logged anything down for a good few cycles. And that really, really needs to change, he thinks. Keeping thorough audio records of their whereabouts and activities could prove useful if they get into any more legal scrapes with disgruntled Gems. Plus, it’s great for personal posterity— for when he and the fam want to kick back with some mixers and reminisce about old times.
He activates the mic embedded in the armrest of his seat with a single tap, and clears his throat.
“Logging… stardate one-three zero-five twenty eighteen,“ he begins, rhythmically tapping his fingers against the cool metal. “Or, uh… however that’s supposed to work,” he tags on with a bemused mumble, his nose wrinkling in personal annoyance as he realizes he might have completely jumbled the date format again. At this point, half of his logs are month first, then date, and the other half are date then month. Ugh, what a mess. Perhaps one day he’ll standardize the captain’s logging procedure, but that future is definitely not now. 
And knowing him, it’s probably not gonna be tomorrow, either.
He’s unable to help his exhausted yawn as he kicks back and unwinds, throwing his legs over the side of the armrest as he pushes ahead with his recounting of the last few hours.
“Today’s travels once again had us come face-to-face with our favorite frenemy Emerald, who claimed that her latest star cruiser had the booster technology to easily outperform all other Era 3 ships and challenged us to a race across the Stellaris Astroid Field in sector 9. We won, of course,” he says with a smug lilt to his voice. “The Rutiles’ savvy piloting saw to that, as well as Fluorite’s last-minute engine modifications. I think we hit like… a record cruising speed?” He presses his lips into a thin line and turns his head towards his friend working at the rear of the main deck. “Hey Pady? D’ya happen to remember what our top velocity came to during the final stretch of that race?”
She pauses in her self-appointed duty and hums in careful thought, sorting back through her eidetic knowledge of the recent past like it’s nothing but child’s play. “I believe… 181 klicks per second, nearing the speed of light.”
“And that was like… a record, yeah?” he asks, a sudden hair-raising twinge of… well, something settling deep at the pit of his chest. He ignores it for now. Such phantom pangs aren’t uncommon these days. He’s not exactly sure what causes it yet, and chalks it up to more ‘pink zombie’ weirdness.
“For our craft, yes,” she nods. “For all Gemkind, no. I was curious, as well. As far as I’ve read from Homeworld’s databases, the current non-FTL cruising record is 186.1 klicks per second.” 
Lars can’t help the scoffing chuckle that bubbles within his throat. “Ugh. Good grief, that’s basically light speed as it is. Like, leave some room for competition for the rest of us, yeah?”
Padparadscha gives a faint snicker of agreement as she turns her focus back to the ship’s mainframe interface. Right, right… she’s got work to get done. Which really reminds him, he needs to get back to his point too, or else this log’s gonna be stuffed with nothing but meaningless chit-chatter and asides. He sighs, leaning his cheek against the seat’s edge again.
“But in any case,” he continues into the mic, “our latest victory over Emerald seems to ha—”
With zero warning whatsoever that hollow pang at his core intensifies, its thrall pulsing louder and louder until it’s a thunderous cascade of static rippling through his very veins. He hisses in alarm, jamming his hands over his ears out of pure bodily instinct. This doesn’t help, of course— as this cacophonous feeling (not a sound, not some external input he can mute or modulate, but a feeling—) seems to be emanating from within, from a place all but intangible to the physical realm, from— 
He spies that oh-so-familiar glow emanating from the fringe of his hair just a split second before his surprise visitor tumbles through and throws off his center of balance, unceremoniously toppling both of them to the floor in a ridiculous tangle of limbs. 
Lars’ exhales become laborious as he extracts himself from under the teen and clambers back up to his knees, heart pounding with more fervent intensity than it has since he up and died a few years back.
And right on cue, about fifteen seconds too late:
“Captain Lars, Steven is about to cross through the portal in your head!”
“Yeah, I noticed, thanks,” he snaps in the shock of it all, feeling guilty for this snide remark the second it passes through his lips. (Because Padparadscha can’t help her compulsive ‘predictions.’ He knows this. Everyone knows this. He’ll have to find time to pull her aside and apologize.)
But not now.
Not yet.
Because the alarm bells rung by Pady’s next comment are enough to slap him right out of his brooding contemplation and back to the troubling here-and-now.
“I also predict that Steven won’t be in a very sound state of mind when he arrives,” she says, a noticeable tension building in her tone.
His eyes blow wide as he shifts his full attention to his friend, clad in a pair of sweatpants and a thin sleep shirt.
Steven is… oh, geeze. It seems Steven can’t even manage coherent speech right now. His cheeks are blotchy and raw with recent tears. He’s doubled over on the floor with one hand clutching at his center as he heaves for breath, glowing bright ass pink and looking halfway to hyperventilating. One thing’s for sure: it’s really, really hard to watch. His own chest growing insufferably tight in sympathy, Lars leaps to action, unwilling to let the poor guy wallow in the thickets of whatever the hell this breakdown is about any longer than he has to.
“H-hey…” he begins, edging towards him with the same slow deliberateness he always has to use with the rescue dog his parents recently adopted. And like, yeah— a part of him feels really rude for comparing his own friend to a skittish, fretful animal— but it’s a comparison that seems all the more apt the longer he drinks in the realities of this situation.
Because just like ol’ Maru, Steven is jumpy, horrifically on-edge, and ready to bolt at a moment’s notice. 
Lars frowns, considering what few options he has.
Realizing his friend’s not likely to calm down very well so out in the open like this, he turns towards his fellow Off-Color. 
“Pady, I’m taking him to my quarters. Can you let the others know, and uh… tell them not to disturb us for a while?”
“Yes, right away,” she chimes, hopping off her seat.
“Thank you,” he breathes, expression softening. “I mean it. And sorry about— well, I’ll talk with you later, all right?”
Her mouth falling into a perfectly neutral line (even if she’s incapable of reading the future, he’s sure she’s intensely aware of what he wishes to speak to her about from mere context clues alone), the Gem serves him a solid nod of acceptance and spins on her heels, striding down the hall with a level of confidence he envies. The bridge’s door slides shut after her, leaving him and his glowing, pink hued guest entirely alone.
Alone, and incredibly, incredibly vulnerable, like a live wire flailing about atop a damaged Earth power line.
(The last thing anyone on this ship needs is him having one of his infamous explosive episodes here and compromising the bridge’s airlock system. Which is why his quarters— below deck and fully enclosed— is a far more ideal locale for them right now.)
“O-okay, Steven,” he says, holding out his arm in aid as the teen struggles to clamber back to his feet. “Let’s go somewhere private to cool down, yeah?”

A few minutes later, Lars has Steven situated on the one plush sofa he keeps in his quarters. Since he no longer possess any biological need for sleep and thus doesn’t keep a bed, his room on the ship is pretty sparse— just a desk for journaling or gaming and some shelves with a number of sentimental knick-knacks he brought with him from Earth— but he did find it important to keep a couch. Even if he doesn’t need to sleep, curling up for a quick hour of shut-eye still feels quite rejuvenating sometimes. Plus, it’s handy to have whenever he hosts visitors. Like now. 
Lars sits himself down right next to the distressed teen. He’s still flushed bright pink, but has regained a fair bit of emotional stability compared to how he was right after tumbling out of the magic space portal in his hair. It might take a while until the glow fades away entirely, but it’s progress, at least. 
He sighs, rapping his fingertips against his jeans as he gives his friend some time in silence to cool down. The last thing the guy needs right now is for him to wave half a dozen questions in his face. He’ll talk when he’s ready. Or, hell, maybe not at all. That’s okay, too. Maybe he just wanted a place to have a quick little freak-out away from his family or girlfriend. Who’s he to judge? Sometimes a man’s just gotta be alone for a while. 
Of course, he muses, if Steven really wanted to be alone, then he wouldn’t have crossed through Lion’s mane over to him, now would he? So this visit can’t only be due to a desire for solitude. Steven sought out him— specifically him— for a reason.
That churning, hollow pang at his core radiates even stronger, pulsing at the same interval as the dull tick of the clock he has hanging up on his wall, the one he keeps set to Earth EST as an everlasting reminder of his humble human roots and all the people who care about him back home.
Finally— some ten or so minutes later— the seventeen-year-old stops glowing, that unnatural, otherworldly pallor fading into obscurity. The kid (sorry, but Steven will always be a ‘kid’ to him at this point, don’t matter his age) deflates in exhaustion, cupping his face in his hands.
Now a little more confident that his expressions of concern won’t rile him up to destructive levels of stress, Lars makes a gentle inquiry as to what brought him here. 
“‘Course, you don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to,” he tacks on quickly when he sees Steven’s expression widen with an almost grief-stricken apprehension, “but since I’m here an’ all, I figured…”
His guest sucks in a deep, shaky bout of air.
“N-no, I wanna talk,” he says, voice painfully hoarse. “I came here to talk, but I— it’s just so, so much, I-I’m—”
Lars’ eyes soften. “Dude, it’s okay. Take your time.”
And take his time he does. Another minute or so passes whilst Steven continues to reel himself in on the emotional side of things, breathing slow and heavy as he levels a dead-eyed stare at the blank section of wall flanking the doorway and his desk.
“Connie and I had a fight,” he begins eventually, his tone streaked with embarrassment. “Over the phone.”
Lars’ brow shoots up. Huh. All right. This is absolutely not the opener he expected.
“Really? You two fight? About what?”
“It doesn’t even matter anymore. It was nothing,” Steven mutters, clenching and unclenching his fists against the soft fabric of his pajama pants in a markedly uneven rhythm. “Just me being an idiot, as per usual. I’m sure we’ll make up over it tomorrow. But the problem is that we hung up mad. And when I’m mad about something, it just… makes me mad at myself. A-and then it’s like—” anxious, clawing hands migrate to his head, gripping at his hair— “w-when I’m mad at myself I just spiral? And it’s so, so scary how fast that can happen.”
Ever so slight, his lip presses into a tense frown as he listens. He doesn’t interject, not yet. Steven’s not finished with his disclosure— there’s more to this story, he can feel it brimming in his very bones. He can feel it squirming around in the tangled coils of his guts, a primal, virulent rot that threatens to consume him from the inside out. Something is off with him, something is distinctly wrong.
And oh, does he hate being right.
“I just… couldn’t stop thinking about it,” Steven admits.
The aching hollowness etched into the contours of his friend’s face intensifies, if that’s even possible.
Lars swallows.
“It?”
“—about killing myself,” he rasps, “and finally being done with all this.”
So, he’s not gonna lie.
While— much like himself— Steven’s never been the sort of person to prefer wearing his most turbulent emotions on his sleeve, he’s long suspected something like this was going on with him.
He suspected (because he’s been right there in those trenches himself), but he never said anything. 
He never mentioned these worries to any of his guardians.
And he never asked.
‘Cause like, how could he, right?? What a horrible, triggering inquiry that would be. ‘Hey Steven, hah, so random question— you don’t happen to casually fantasize about your own death or anything sometimes, do you?’ Fucking hell, what an asshole he’d make. What a disgusting, disgusting breech of boundaries. He always hated it when his parents violated his trust by butting into his own personal business unprompted, so how could he ever turn right around and do that to Steven? To one of his most cherished friends in the whole galaxy? To the guy who— despite years and years of putting up with all his toxic bullshit and daring to see the good in him anyways— literally brought him back to life?
Thus, with him never volunteering any information himself, all that was left for Lars to do was watch. 
To watch, and to listen where he can.
But still.
He’s not gonna lie.
Even if he always kinda suspected, even if so many of their interactions this past year only acted as fuel for all his constant, silent worries, hearing the kid actually say those words hurts like a bitch.
“Steven…” he utters with widened eyes, extending his hand.
To no avail, though.
“And that’s stupid, right??” the teen blurts out with a broad sweep of his arms, either ignoring or plain not noticing his offer of comfort as he rants onwards, his demeanor growing more and more unstable with each and every syllable. “That’s just… stupid! Normal people don’t think like that! Normal people don’t make mistakes and instantly leap to the worst possible punishment and spin that little thought around, and around, and around in your head until you’ve considered a thousand different scenarios that all end the same way.”
He pauses for breath, his chest heaving in and out— probably amidst the exertion of being so damn honest for once. Lars doesn’t even make a sound within this brief span of quiet. A part of him is a little terrified at what else might spill out of his friend’s mouth now that the cork of his anxieties has thoroughly been popped off, but he’s even more terrified at the thought of derailing him, of unintentionally stopping these truths from ever being spoken.
“And it’d be so easy, too,” Steven says, his once manic tone dropping a little lower, into something that’s worryingly more akin to numb acceptance. “I already know exactly how I’d do it! All I’d have to do is smash my gem so I don’t heal, and slit my wrists, and let myself just—” his voice cracks— “drift away, b-but—”
Lars’ brow hardens with a sudden rush of understanding as the trajectory of the teen’s sentence trails on off. “But something’s… holding you back?”
He nods, swallowing so hard that he can see the resultant lump move along the center line of his throat.
“The problem is,” he says, voice raw and vulnerable, “I’ve already seen how my family would respond to that. To… to me trying to kill myself. When I turned into that monster, I— I don’t actually remember much about it, but what I do remember is that the last thought I had before I changed was eerily similar to what I’m feeling now.”
Momentary lull. He’s rotating a thought in his head with the same intensity of a set of steam engine gears grinding against each other, that much is obvious.
“I think… for me,” he continues with marked hesitation, “corruption was a form of suicide. Which means—” he grinds his fingers into the soft fabric of his pajama bottoms as if seeking out an anchor, any anchor at all— “I already know what that would do to them. And I hate that I do, b-because… ‘cause I’m just so tired. Of all of this. I just want everything to stop. I want to stop.” 
Lars can’t help but wince as he listens to the developing theme of this admission, to how each and every new word his friend weaves into existence falls into such dissonant harmony with the gloomy, directionless version of himself he’s worked so hard to let rest in the past. Hell, he might as well be looking straight into some weird, warped mirror of his own teenage years. His lungs seize tight upon this revelation. Instinctively, he extends his hand towards the guy’s shoulder, sobered by the understanding that he’s possibly the sole person in this entire quadrant who’s capable of conveying even an ounce of sympathy or comfort for what he’s battling through right now.
“Hey, man. It’s okay. It’s over, now, you’re here with me. Those are just thoughts, y’know?”
Steven shakes his head, the motion swift and drenched with the dread of all his unaddressed self-loathing.
“But they’re not, though…”
“Wait, what are you even—?”
“Because… this time I almost carried through with it.”
His expression crumples upon the advent of this spoken revelation.
Fuck, he thinks, wishing with every last brittle nerve in his body that this conversation didn’t just swerve in the exact godawful direction he always feared it might. What the actual fuck.
He is so not equipped for this. 
With literally nothing else in his arsenal but the drive to bite his lip and listen, Lars motions for him to continue.
Sniffling, the teen backs his story up to provide what little context he feels comfortable with sharing. 
“After Connie and I’s fight… well, my dreams were really, really bad. So I woke up. Alone. And I started spiraling real bad again, an’… and then before I could even process what was happening, I—”
Sweet stars, is the poor guy trembling as he struggles to push this admission out. With a brief waver of hesitation (‘cause in normal circumstances, he’s not huge on all this touchy-feely stuff), he reaches over, angling to rest one of his hands over Steven’s.
“I had the knife in my hand,” he says. “And a pestle from the kitchen, to smash my gem. B-but I just… I just couldn’t do it! I’m just a coward, Lars! A stupid fucking coward who can’t even—”
He doesn’t utter a single syllable. 
He doesn’t even think. (How could he, in such fraught circumstances?) 
Limbs trembling in an outright terrifying cascade of adrenaline he hasn’t experienced since the day he finally found something worth existing for, Lars surges forward to wrap him into what’s gotta be the tightest, most sincere hug he’s given in his whole twenty-one years of life.
And thankfully, such an impulsive interjection is all it takes.
The walls his friend’s erected around himself this past season topples like wayward dominos. They smash against the ground, crumbling into vulnerable, vulnerable fragments. 
Steven sobs into his shoulder with a raw, shattered fervency that stretches leagues beyond any outpour of emotion he’s ever witnessed from another living person. It’s messy. It’s visceral. And in the precise context of this intensely specific turn of events, it’s a damn cathartic relief… because when it comes to training your brain out of a deep-rooted death wish, feeling anything— literally anything at all— is step number fucking one.
“I wanted to die so badly,” the teen warbles, his ugly mixture of snot and tears staining his shirt all the while. “B-but… I’m just such a worthless, pathetic failure that I can’t even do that right!”
He can’t help but cringe at this admission, but resolves to remain silent, not wanting a gentle pushback to such brutal self-loathing to spook Steven away from showing any shred of vulnerability whatsoever. He’s been there plenty of times himself. After all, when a person who’s caught in such a void of hopelessness and despair makes a last ditch appeal for help, they’re usually not looking to be told ‘everything will get better in time, you’ll see’ or ‘don’t be so hard on yourself, you’re not a worthless failure at all,’ or whatever other empty attempt at reassurance someone who doesn’t have such intimate experience with depression and suicidal ideation as he does might come up with. In many cases, such people are simply vying for their bleakest, most private feelings to actually be heard for once in their lives. 
The moment’s sanctity unhindered, the boy continues to cry against his shoulder for a good long stretch of time. Lars barely even breathes as he sits perched at the very edge of that couch, consigned to nothing but a statue as he holds him within what’s gotta be a record for the galaxy’s most awkward and stiff embrace ever shared.
A miniature eternity passes within this space before those sobs finally begin to lighten up.
“‘M sorry,” Steven mumbles through a face full of snot, pulling away from his offered comfort as a flicker of shame wrests control of his features. 
Lars shakes his head in a vehement refusal of the habitual guilt spiral he’s sure the guy’s a split second from slipping right into. “Dude, don’t be. Stars, I— I’m just glad you came over to me, okay?”
Then, swallowing… and doing his upmost best to consider the most respectful way to broach such a sensitive topic, he continues:
“I… I don’t mean to pry, but… are you… taking anything for this?”
Steven’s glassy expression scrunches into a configuration that screams nothing but blank confusion. “What?”
“Like… medication, or—?”
A bright understanding dawns within his gaze like the glow from a passing star system, before immediately collapsing inwards into a bitter, shadowed singularity. 
“No… no,” he protests, gesticulating all the while, “I keep telling everyone— my therapist, my dad, the Gems— I don’t wanna take any medicine! I’m not sick, I’m not, I don’t need drugs in my brain, I just— I just need to stop acting like this, just need to do better, to be better, I-I need—”
“Steven, no offense, but it’s called mental illness for a reason,” Lars says in the most deadpan tone he can muster, crossing his arms as he leans back upon the plush of the couch cushion. “Your brain is ill. That’s literally what this is. If you had the flu, you’d be taking flu medicine to help yourself get over it, right?”
“I’ve never had the flu,” he says in miserable contradiction.
“Yeah, well— come on, man, just work with me here,” he half-snaps, throwing a hand up for emphasis. “You agree that someone who is ill deserves medicine to feel better, right?”
The teen merely shrugs, his features growing cold and sullen. And good golly does he super want to smack all this noncommittal, self-sabotaging bullshit out of his stupid fucking system right this instant— because it reminds him so damn much of himself, and he hates that it does— but… aughhh. He’s gotta be more mature than that, doesn’t he?
As the older of the pair, he’s gotta be the role model here. 
“Then, don’t you think you might benefit from the same thing?” he presses.
Steven responds in the negative, swiveling his head from side to side. “I don’t know how it’d interact with… well—” 
He flashes a sharp gesture towards himself. More specifically, towards his very center, where his gem sits. Lars has no need to live inside his thoughts to pick up on the tricky little issue he’s hinting at here… he’s worried about how human medications would interact with the complexities of part-Gem physiology. And to be fair, it’s a reasonable concern to have.
But then again…
“That’s how it is with humans, too,” he shrugs. “It takes some people a lot of trial and error to find a drug and dosage that works for them. For once, you wouldn’t be any more an unusual case than anyone else. Do what you want, but—” deep inhale— “if it were me, I’d really consider talking with a psychiatrist about this.”
The teen issues a dull huff through his nose. It’s the sort of response that makes it clear he reluctantly agrees with Lars’ logic, but should he actually follow his advice— and stars, he hopes he does— won’t be doing so with a willing heart. That’s fine, though. Sometimes, being the most supportive friend one can be means that the other party won’t always like what you have to say. He knows this from intense personal experience… from being the person on the other side of this kind of conflict. Sadie was never afraid of serving him the tough love and cutting perspective he needed when he opened up to her about his own experience with suicidal ideation, and he’s forever grateful for that. Thus, the least he can do now is try to be that kind of advocate for Steven, too.
Which brings him to the next vital topic rattling within his brain.
“Oh, and one other thing,” Lars says, folding his hands in his lap and looking him directly in the eye. “This is important, so please be honest with me. Have you told anyone else you’ve been struggling with these kinds of thoughts?”
“Not really,” he mumbles, his own gaze slipping aside amidst the turbulent throes of his clear shame. “I just… I wanted to deal with this myself. I don’t want them to be disappointed. They all think I’m doing so well these days, but then—”
“Steven.”
There’s no acknowledgement of his call, at first. He’s just too damn tangled within his own thoughts— expression glazed over and restless fingertips drumming in an endless thrall against his thigh.
“Steven, come on. Look at me,” he implores, interrupting his manic fidgeting with the reassuring solidity of a hand over his. “Please. Promise me, when you go back through my head, you’ll call someone else— anyone else— and tell them. Tell them, and then have them contact me. I want to hear you promise.”
“Lars…”
“Promise me,” he repeats with an even stronger fervency, his normally sluggish heartbeat surging halfway to its old full-strength status quo. “Listen, I don’t want to invade your privacy any more than you want me to, but if you don’t do this by the end of tomorrow… if that very clock—” he jabs a finger towards the so-mentioned object hanging upon his wall— “hits midnight and I don’t hear anything from your family… then I’m calling your father and telling him myself.”
Steven’s expression twists with a sharp jolt of dismay, his mouth falling ajar. Lars cuts off any pending protests with a swift flash of his hand and continues undeterred.
“I’m not joking. I’m like, a billion light years in space, man. You need someone closer to home in your corner, too.”
Unable to ignore the hard hitting truth of this statement, his friend finally acquiesces to his request, his shoulders slumping inwards.   
“Fine,” he mumbles, folding his arms to his chest. “I promise I’ll tell Dad.”
“Thank you,” he breathes in sheer spine tingling relief. And by golly, does he uber mean it. 
Because holy shit, have the past fifteen or so minutes of conversation been an absolute stress-soaked ordeal. He doesn’t know if he’s ever felt so emotionally exhausted in his whole ass existence.
“In the morning, though,” Steven adds. “I—” the kid heaves a long, exhausted sigh— “I really don’t think either of us are prepared for that kind of conversation this late.”
“Absolutely fair enough.”
His friend sniffles a little, gaze averting once more. “Can I— can I stay here, for tonight? I really, really don’t want to be alone right now.”
“Of course,” he nods. In his mind, Steven’s request was never a matter up for debate. “Always. I’ll… I’ll go get some blankets.”
Hooking his thumbs into the pockets of his jeans, Lars pushes himself off the couch and slowly shuffles his way to the door. (The storage closet he keeps all his extra personal elements in is a short distance down the hall, past Rhody and Padparadscha’s shared room.) He keeps his expression as blank as he can muster… at least until he’s moved well out of both visual and auditory range. And then… once he’s absolutely positive that Steven can’t overhear… all that built-up worry and emotional strain simply overflows.
He’s not outright crying— not in the way that others might— but damn if he’s not real close to it.
Lars’ whole body shudders with a burst of delayed grief as he braces himself upon the closet door. He clamps a hand over his mouth, stifling the impact of the shaky exhale that spills from his lips otherwise unhindered. Just… fuck. What the fuck. All of this feels like a horrible nightmare. When the hell did things get so bad for him? Who let things get this bad? Is he at fault—? Like, geeze— he always knew something felt awry with the kid (and that’s half the issue, isn’t it? He’s not just a sweet little kid with simple lil’ problems anymore, and in many ways he never was), but should he have said something? Confronted him about it? Told his guardians about his concerns, privacy be damned? 
He grits his teeth as he muddles over all the infinite complexities of this problem.
Ugh.
What if, what if, what if.
It’s all useless conjecture.
The bottom line is, Steven doesn’t deserve any of this. Not then, not now, not ever. He shouldn’t have to be dealing with any of these horrid, horrid thoughts. Stars, if anything had happened to him— if he actually did follow through with his plan, then—
Lars drops his head against the door panel, doing everything within his power to will the thought to evaporate from his mind.
No.
No…
He doesn’t even want to consider that possibility. Steven’s like a brother to him at this point. It’s not gonna happen. Not now, not ever. Not on his watch.
He’s not sure how yet, but he’ll make damn sure of it.
Once he’s cooled himself down, Lars returns to his quarters with a couple of blankets in hand.
Upon passing through the doorframe, he’s met with a somewhat reassuring sight: Steven already sound asleep on his ratty old couch, curled up against the armrest and snoring softly. Heh. He sure doesn’t blame him for tuckering out so soon. Poor guy must’ve been exhausted after such a rigorous emotional outpouring. Moving with calm intent so as not to disturb him, he quickly lays the blankets across his slumbering form before retreating to the far wall to keep watch for the night. He stretches back against the metallic panel, inhaling as deep as he can muster to erase the quavering tension staining his countenance.
Standing vigil over a soul in need… just in case.

Time lords don’t want their use of time to be limited (but of course don’t seem to have a problem with those limits being put on the other temporal powers)
Gallifrey referred to as ‘her’ → personification of the planet itself rather than referring to the people running it
‘For eons, we Time Lords have simply observed the universe unfold. Now it seems we must actively participate’
‘Your people are old. For the old, change is always unwelcome’
‘It’s obvious that someone is attempting to damage Gallifrey’s standing among these lesser Temporal Powers’ → even when in alliance with the other temporal powers, the time lords still see themselves as superior
‘your shiny, chafing city-clothes’ → leela’s description of time lord clothing, also the ‘city clothes’ implies that the time lords of the citadel/capitol wear different outfits
‘Nine bells’ → time measurement on gallifrey, i’m going to assume it’s similar to saying 9 o’clock
‘Still, must be a blessed relief having a Time Lord after you. Well, they do only like to watch, don’t they?’ → this line haunts me, the implication that time lords are well known enough here means that they do in fact hire these people, but hey, at least they don’t get handsy, this audio is a look into this specific part of time lord culture that we really never get to see
Time lords used to have a monopoly on time travel → wouldn’t be surprised if they purposefully tried to keep others from developing time travel
‘You forget it was Gallifrey who helped you rebuild your own hostworld’ → gallifrey actively helping other temporal powers (though there is the implication that it is so they can gain knowledge of how other planets time technology works)
‘We shall reconvene tomorrow at three bells’ → though this is a summit for all the time powers, they are using a time lord way of telling time
‘Your President is a lord, not only of time, but of timely intervention, is she not?’
‘What you have done is link Gallifrey to one more squalid scandal’ → gallifrey have a lot of scandals does it?
There’s a specific presidential tardis
They predicted that the fake summit would go badly and it seems Romana planned to have to leave at some point from the real one
‘These Presidential TARDISes… no personality, so predictable, so by-the-book’ → there seems to be something different about the presidential tardises specifically (something something they are grown/built not to have any individuality and/or it gets stripped from them?)
Presidential codes can override denied access codes → also shows that romana doesn’t use the presidential codes for everything, seems to be just in the case that there are not other working access codes
Paradoxes give time lords headaches
‘a nobody like Narvin’ → narvin holds a very powerful position on gallifrey, but he is not really known of by those outside of gallifreyan politics, cia still somewhat secretive even if the coordinator is somewhat of a public face for the organization
In helping to rebuild the monan host world, the time lords set up a contingency plan that allowed them to destroy it → wow these guys suck
Cia (narvin) did that behind romana’s back
‘On the contrary, you knew all along, and only attended in order to flush out a dangerous terrorist. Full credit has been given to you’ → the time lords once again rewriting the telling of events to fit what they think makes them look good
Romana referring to brax as ‘her cardinal’ → is there a specific cardinal that works directly under the president, is it because he is also prydonian, or is it time lords being weird on possessive again
There were multiple beeps when opening the door to romana’s office, but only one for leela’s quarters, either a) one was opened from the outside and that requires an input of a code that opening it from the inside does not, or b) there was a longer code that needed to be imputed to get into the presidential office, which would make sense (could be both, but we can’t really see what side of the door it was opened from so who knows)

putting aside the ethics of 'A.I' videos in their creation/usage/waste/economics, just on a purely technical level one thing i find interesting is no matter if the result looks photorealistic or like 3d CGI- it's all technically 2d image generation.
unless specifically used as an add on in a software for 3d rendering, of course, pretty much every ai video you see online is 2d art. the space rendered is a single plane, think of it like doing a digital painting on a single layer. the depth/perspective is an illusion that is frame by frame being rendered to the best ability of prediction based on data it has been fed.
obviously videos of 3d models in animation are a 2d file. like a pixar movie. but in video games you do have a fully rendered 3d character in a 3d rendered space, that's why glitches that clip through environments are so funny. it's efficient to have stock animations and interaction conditions programmed onto rigged dolls and sets.
by contrast if you were to use a generative ai in a similar context it would be real time animating a series of illustrations. of sounds and scenarios. the complexity required for narrative consistency and the human desire to fuck up restrictions hits up against a much more randomised set of programming. how would it deal with continuity of setting and personality? obviously chatbots already exist but as the fortnight darth vader debacle recently shows there are limits to slapping a skin on a stock chatbot rather than building one custom.
i just think that there's so many problems that come from trying to make an everything generator that don't exist in the mediums it is trying to usurp because those mediums have a built in problem solving process that is inherent to the tools and techniques that make them up.
but also also, very funny to see algorithmic 2D pixel generation being slapped with every label "this photo, this video, this 3d render" like it is at best description cgi, let's call it what it is.
but i could of course be wrong in my understanding of this technology, so feel free to correct me if you have better info, but my basic understanding of this tech is: binary code organised by -> human programming code to create -> computer software code that -> intakes information from data sets to output -> pixels and audio waveforms
