funny thing is, both me and kid 1 are also libras. husband is all alone on an aries island. but the original due date was right on the cusp of libra/scorpio, it really could've gone either way if kid hadn't come early! thank god she did though bc she was already 8 pounds. i would've had a 10 pound baby to birth if not.

so one of the things I was vaguely aware of before reproducing was that people hold a lot of anxiety around the gender of babies and 'wrongly' gendering babies (i.e. failing to guess correctly based on their clothes and appearance what their genital configuration is) and having now had a baby: wow, yes, they really do.

I take an extremely laissez-faire approach to baby clothes because like, they are constantly being thrown up on and grown out of and so on, what matters is that they are clean and easy to put on and I am not spending $$$$$ on them. as long as the colour/design is not directly offensive, it's fine. what this means is that people are quite frequently 'misgendering' the baby and then falling over themselves to apologise about it.

and, like, I haven't even had a chance to dress him in anything pink yet; this is based on rules I didn't expect like 'anything with flowers or sparkly bits on it is for girls only'. equally, I do not care when this happens because it's an irrelevancy, but THEY care to make sure I am not offended. so I have started telling them "look, he's only [x] months old; his gender is baby."

and you know what? you'd be surprised how many otherwise average heterosexual people process this and go "huh, yeah, I guess it is." there is a tiny amount of hope for the future after all.

It's fun reading writers who clearly grew up in suburban/urban environments as someone who grew up on a farm because they're always like "oh it was so creepy, woods at night, eerily breathtaking, something was living in there..." and it's like yeah that'll be the deer.

ahhh! thank you! she's got hair alright! not as much as i did when i was born, but she's got hair! and she looks more like me than kid 1 does too.

having a baby is boring ngl. like labor is so long. started having contractions yesterday morning, kid didn't arrive until almost five am today. spent a lot of time scrolling through dumblr. but actual active labor wasn't too bad. i know how to manage pain and had a great support team. i've been pretty adamant both times about not delivering on my back too, which helps a lot with pain and minimizes tearing!

can't wait to go home though. with nurses always doing their job making sure you're still stable after a medical emergency, it's hard to sleep.

funniest thing though is that my twin cousin had her baby girl today too.
