I do! Or I try to - I try to respond to every comment people leave, even if it's only a heart emoji or a 'thank you'. Because I want to show them I see them and appreciate them!!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Toss up between "no home sweet and no sweet home" with Joan having to run away from an abusive household in the middle of the night to a life of just constant running and loneliness she's not emotionally prepared for after having a relatively normal life and "my heart is a stone, my body is not my own" with Yataka dealing with years of blackmail, sexual assault and noncon suddenly being exposed to everyone by one of his abusers and just refusing to talk about it at all and rejecting the (admittedly flawed) attempt at comfort shown to him (points for being a fic I wanted to end with comfort and instead became my first hurt/no comfort).

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

It's hard to choose but I'm gonna say probably First Word (link above) because. I mean how does it get better than Human!Ten, Donna and Jenny being a little family together and Jenny's first word being Donna's name and Ten being absolutely in love with his girls-

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Oh I did like, back when I was 13. My ATLA OC fic got cyberbullied by some dude on tumblr, who copy&pasted whole chapters of my fic and then would go through the chapter and add shitty comments.

The only good thing about that situation was that he even added a whole post to express his confusion that all the comments on my fic were positive. everyone else was loving it. and then he apparently needed to ruin me and left his own comment telling me he was reviewing my fic. which of course led to a shock and some hurt feelings but uh, seeing him annoyed at everyone else liking the fic helped lmao now I can look back on it with amusement like what was going on with that guy that he felt the need to harass a 13 year old.

I also got another comment on the same fic accusing me of plagiarizing their fic and OC because both my oc and hers could bend 2 elements and had sort of similar names and when I went to read her fic it was so completely different from my own I had to LAUGH.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I've attempted it a few times but I really don't know what I'm doing with it.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I've never written a whole crossover - I admit I did start an au fic where all different studio ghibli characters were in the story of Anastasia the movie, but it did not get super far before I stopped.

luckily no.

No but if anyone ever asked I wouldn't say no!

Nope!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Oh my god.... I mean as hard as it is to choose it's gotta be TenDonna. like platonically, romantically, a secret third thing, they are amazing together and I love them so much.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I try to never say I'll never finish a fic, but there's one for certain I don't think I'll ever finish, Prince Mononoke - a role swap au of Princess Mononoke. I was writing it for years and had my grandma proofread every chapter before publishing. I put it on hiatus for years, but then she died, and it didn't feel right to keep going.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I feel I write dialogue really well. I try my best to hit the right voice for every character and I think I do a good job at it. And honestly it's hard for me to not write dialogue like half the time I'm like can you guys shut up already and progress the plot with actions instead-

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm not as poetic as I'd like to be, I guess. Like. some writers are just fucking masters with words and I feel like I'm stammering. I'm also not super confident in writing romance - like, pining, or friendly relationship with a splash of romance for fun? I've got that. Actual romantic relationships? Not so much.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If I do, I use google translate and hope for the best, but usually I don't. Ethereal has a lot of Canadian French in it because Marianne is from Quebec, but I use my sister (a French Immersion student) as my translator.

I mean I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Like, use the best translator website you can find and hope for the best.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

If we want to get really technical it was for The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, before I even knew fanfic was a thing. If we want to be specific to published fic, it was Avatar the Last Airbender.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

There are a few really integral people I want to thank, for either the help, inspiration or both. First off, my partner, Tyler, who has listened to me read every single chapter of this thing aloud to check for all kinds of stuff, including typos, awkward phrasing, etc. (Although I still missed tons of that shit, and for that I’m sorry. There are pros and cons to going beta-less on a fic this long, missing typos and repeating phrases and some general wonkiness inevitably showing up in posted chapters is one of them. But I don’t like asking anyone to read and edit a 20k word chapter, so yeah. You’ll find if you go back and re-read, a lot of it has been cleaned up substantially, me catching shit after posting. If I ever write a sequel, I’ll need to re-read this thing again, too, and I’ll clean it up another time.) Tyler also was my point person for so, so many discussions about characterization and plot points, etc. He is also endlessly patient and kind. And I love him to pieces.

The second person I wanted to thank was Bright_Thorn (@bright-thorn) for encouraging me for many, many months in the form of reading and feedback and help with a lot of the Spanish translation and also with just being a phenomenal author. The first story I read by them was actually 404, which inspired so much of the chatter and relationships between the droids, and also really got me to think about what autonomy would look like in a droid. Of course Unorthodox Modifications was also a huge inspiration, in terms of not only how a relationship between Cassian and K-2 could develop, but also it provided inspiration in understanding how Cassian could be in a relationship at all. Lol. I have also always loved their inclusion of Chopper in their stories, and that inspired me from the get-go (even as early on as Integration) to make sure he was in this. (Sexy, sexy scene between K-2 and Chopper in armed. Sex between droids was inspired by that and something of Robotboy’s I’ll talk about.) Iterations was also incredibly helpful in exploring how various versions of Kay might deal with waking up after the loss of Cassian. And although this went a different way, it was exceptionally helpful in the beginning thinking of how Kay might even think about grieving Cassian.

Other stories they’ve written that inspired either characters or the possibility I could even write a character like that included For the Long Haul, which included a sentient ship, which inspired Atlas’s character. Reed and Eirtae’s relationship, or the idea of just exploring other human/droid relationships was partly inspired by Non-standard Issue, which is a fucking lovely, beautifully felt fic. Go read it if you haven’t.

Robotboy’s (@r0b0tb0y) stories have also been incredibly inspiring and just downright beautiful to read. You, Me, and the Monsters Inside Us was paramount in exploring a more digitally-based Cassian, including ways the two of them might be intimate virtually. Defect was also just fucking wonderful, and really helped my exploration of Cassian undercover. Also Tax Deductible Fuck, because… of course. Basically all of them. lol.

Whalebone’s stories too. Oh, where do I begin? Their entire series Radio Heart inspired so many moments of how I could conceive of this pairing together. How they write these two is beautiful, and when I wanted to just call it quits, the emotion of this series kept me going. Thermal Coupling was also one of the first Cassian/K-2SO stories I read and made me fall in love with this pairing all the more. My favorite by them has to be while(true) though, and documents five very beautiful and different kisses. That’s one of my favorite Kayssian stories of all time.

Maker, there are so many others. Movement Recalibration by theLoyalRoyalGuard helped imagine both Cassian and K-2SO surviving Scarif, both permanently changed. In fact theLoyalRoyalGuard’s whole series Dual Process Theory is amazing and go read it.

There have been dozens of others, some which I can’t remember the names of. Truly though, I’ve never been a part of a ship with so many fantastic authors and so many intriguing, beautiful ideas. And I’ve never felt so supported and welcomed, so thanks to everyone.

And finally thank you to anyone who read or commented. I was almost exclusively writing the ScarletVision ship for years, and I really put my heart into that one. I got a lot of traction and feedback and love, in the form of hundreds of comments and kudos, but when I leaned more into the AI/robotics dimension of the ship, a lot of people stopped reading. It was heartbreaking, and I learned my lesson, about how to cherish a *single* comment I received, and how amazing it was if even one single human being sat down and read a chapter I wrote through to the end. Also, that it doesn’t feel good to write for any other reason than you enjoy it. I had forgotten that, at some point, somewhere along the way.

I write because I can’t *not*. I write because I have an extremely busy mind. I write because real life, at times, has been so incredibly hard, and slipping into a world where I can pretend is healing. Also because the characters always help me work through my own problems, help me think about themes and lessons maybe I, the person, am not ready to deal with just yet. I write to keep my sanity. I never write for reviews or comments or likes, because, lol, I don’t pick ships that generate a lot of that. But it’s lovely when I know someone read, because it feels like we shared the same world for a little bit. Because it’s the reason I read too. So if I offered someone a little escape from how hard life can be, even for just a little while, then I think that’s pretty amazing.

So, anyway, thanks for staying (uh, a lot longer than I thought, in terms of actual time spent on this and length), but thank you anyway. Stay safe, friends. I appreciate you.

Okay I fucking LOVE Chrisjen Avasarala. I love her in the show, I love her in the books. I fucking love where she starts at the beginning of the series and where she ends up—both in the show, and in the books Shohreh portrayed her beyond perfection. Her leadership style makes my eyes pop and I just love how she commands a room and is trying her fucking best despite all the shit happening. Her wardrobe. Her attitude. HER EVERYTHING. *flails a lot*

I watched season 1 of The Expanse and enjoyed it enough to want to read the first book after I finished the season. Just to hold me over until the second season. Well…I read the first book and then gobbled up the second book Caliban’s War. I lost my utter fucking mind when Chrisjen met Bobbie and then spent the rest of the hiatus waiting and salivating for Bobbie and Chrisjen scenes. THEY WERE MAGNIFICENT. Season 2 was incredible. 10/10 amazing stuff.

One thing that was readily notable after I read the first three books and continued to wait for the show to return, is how much cursing they wrote out of her dialogue in season 1. There was a noticeable uptick in her salty language once the show moved to Amazon and for that I am grateful (but still fuck Jeff Bezos, and I know the irony wasn’t lost on the authors that a real-life inspiration for Jules-Pierre Mao saved their show).

Anyway, I love the series but also the trilogies have some AMAZING QUOTES. Here are a few that I’ll share from the books. ItReachesOut compiled most of these on motivational posters which is linked below.

Another note!

I write SPECIFICALLY for chubby readers, since-

I am a chubby girl myself and I can't find any x chubby reader fics from/for my fandom to save my life- (´༎ຶ ͜ʖ ༎ຶ `)♡

Granted, some people may see it as a simple weight change, but for me, it's the feeling of REALLY being included in the story.

These lines from a bunch of fics I've read-"His shirt fit loosely on you", and "he wrapped his arms around your thin waist", "your small frame" or "He picked you up with ease", etc-don't fit me and I know I'm not the only one.

If a fic usually doesn't clarify that it has a chubby reader, then it's USUALLY a skinny or medium-sized person. I just wanna give me and my chubby fellas a chance, y'know? ┐(シ)┌

And please don't take this the wrong way & please don't think I'm attacking you if you write like this I swear I'm not! Everyone's allowed to write for whatever fandom they want and with whatever body type they wanna write for! I'm just stating that this blog is focused on specifically chubby/plus sized readers.

I write Platonic Readers! For example, if someone requests being just best friends with a certain character, or having a sibling dynamic with another character, then it's all good! 👌🏽

I also write for Yandere characters/situations! If the situation asked for IS uncomfortable to write, I have the right to deny it.

I also do genderbend! I don't see it done much, which is cool! But I'm a dumb little hoe so- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Final thing! I also write for monsters! I write for skeletons and demon monkeys 😑 Basic stuff, like werewolves, vampires, mermaids/merman, hybrids, etc!

Fresh is parasitic monster that lacks emotions and jumps from different hosts so writing him romantically might be a bit of a problem.

Evil Nightmare searches for negative energy, as it's said that positive emotions make him weak. (╯︵╰)

I try my best to stay on track with how characters would canonically react, along with a dash of what I think they would do. But if there's enough asks, then I'll try my best to write them! ଘ(੭ ᐛ )♡

2023 year-end fic round-up

Thank you so much to @chocomd @itsmoonpeaches @northerngoshawk for the tag! awww, it's a wonderful kataang squad.

words written, published or not: I published 68,911 words on AO3. I publish most of the stuff I write (can you tell I like validation?) so that seems a good measure of my writing.

smut scenes written (if applicable:) two? one for oh, darling (kataang, atla) and some dream sex and religious trauma content for my petals are bruised (tara x darcy, heartstopper.) You can tell I'm funky and ace because I have an easier time writing about hypothetical sex or desire or messy emotions than actual sex.

new things I tried: OOOOH this one will be fun!

Finally actually wrote a multi-chap fic that I (mostly) FINISHED before I published, for i'm cold-blooded, love (heartstopper fic), which got published in 2024.

Can you tell I am very obsessed with writing about religious trauma? I worked a lot on my stories and wrote a lot about sanctity and blood and messy feelings. That's the major influence of i'm cold-blooded, love; my stomach churns (zukka, atla); in reverence (kataang, atla); it's all an epiphany (heartstopper); father, carry me (heartstopper); dance like nobody's watching (miss fisher's murder mysteries); and the heartstopper jolene AU. god is the worst gift that truly keeps on giving. he's a goddamn three-headed hydra.

Wrote a lot more Heartstopper 1000-word prompt fics!

Had fun writing about Graham & Karen from Daisy Jones. They're the cutest. I honestly should/could write more about them.

Attempting to disconnect my writing motivation from the satisfaction of getting comments and hits on ao3. is it working yet???

fic I spent the most time on: my spirit always drifts back to yours, the kataang kyoshi warrior AU that I hope will be finished. Sometime. When my hands and my brain are cooperating. I promise this fic matters a lot to me, I love it a lot, and I need to insert so much tenderness and smut in the future chapters. SOMETIME. SOMEDAY!

fic I spent the least time on: in the velvet water, aka the heartstopper AU where they meet at a swimming pool. Was really busy and happy that night so I just published without a second glance.

favorite thing i wrote: probably my petals are bruised, the tarcy jolene AU / lonely housewife AU, because I love writing about suburban malaise and religious trauma and sapphics so, so much. Can you tell that I am projecting? Loneliness in the suburbs sucks. Writing makes it better.

favorite thing I read: lavender fields by scienceisrealyo (heartstopper); @kaalee's Charlie Spring is Still Not Over Nick Nelson, which I was lucky enough to beta; all of the amazing kataang fics that came out this year for kataang week and for the smut weekend event; everything ever written about love (RWRB) by greenandmoss.

writing goals for 2024:

FINISH MY OPEN WIPS ON AO3. I like it when things are completed.

Don't publish a multichapter fic unless I know I can finish it on a regular schedule. I hate leaving loose threads all over the place.

Try to care less about the numbers and the validation. Writing is about joy, not about the size of the audience. but also it feels so nice to get validation and the circle of life cannot close unless creators get feedback on their work....

Be nicer to myself.

Most recently it's been only Doctor Who (thasmin my loves <3), but ATLA and Torchwood are also frequently written for. I've done a few for one-off fandoms like Pirates of the Caribbean, Psycho-Pass, She-ra (2018) as well, and hopefully sometime next year will be adding another fandom to this list!

4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

All ATLA works that I wrote during 2020, so of course they got high, lol. Instead of listing those out, I'm going to give the top fic in each fandom I've wrote more than one fic for, just for some fandom variety:

ATLA: give it oxygen

POTC: Call of the Sea

Torchwood: inconvenient situations

5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?

I do normally, because I love comments and getting to thank/discuss stuff with people, but this year I've been really bad at it (a massive flare of social anxiety) but hoping to catch up with all of the ones I've gotten before the end of the year!

6. what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Maybe ice cream, if only because that's canon compliant to TPOTD which of course has Yaz and the Doctor part forever. Otherwise, I don't really do super angsty endings, more like gentle future angst reminders (more so for the thasmin fics because that's just the vibe I love doing for them).

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Maybe summer blooms, my atla maiko opus, since the ending being happy is a pretty big part of that fic.

No, thankfully.

Not really that kind of writer! If anything, I prefer vague metaphors/implications.

Probably Yaz and the Thirteenth Doctor tbh. Though Mai and Zuko hold a very special place in my heart (I blog more of them over on my other blog @drowning-in-cacophony ).

I'd say metaphors, interesting sentences that stick in people's heads, and characterisation too.

I think my work often ends up 'top heavy', where the top will be full of descriptions and actions and build up, and comparitively the ending is a little shorter of a stop.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I don't know another language, and I wouldn't want to butcher one with a translating energy. If I needed another language, I think I'd do the whole 'they said in [language] but written in english' thing.

Hi guys! I’m gonna make an intro post because I have decided to come back to this blog. My other account has some bad memories associated with an ex friend and I’d rather use this one. Anyway:

Hi, my name is Riah (pronounced like Mariah without the “Ma”) but you can also call me Yorke, Lex, or anything idrc as long as you’re nice. I’m non-binary and I think agender is the best label for me but I lean more masculine so please use they/he (it and xe are fine, idrc as long as it’s not she/her.) I’m also a sex-repulsed asexual and I think I’m panromantic (not really sure, I’ve only dated one person and it was a guy before I was out as enby.) please do NOT flirt with me or ask me about my ex unless I want to talk about it. I still have a lot of trauma from irl stuff over the last few years but I don’t take stuff out on people.

I am 21 years old and am diagnosed with autism and ADHD as well as anxiety and off and on depression due to all the other stuff. If you’re ableist or say I’m faking my autism/ADHD, I will block you! That’s not cool.

I like a lot of different music rock and indie (Radiohead, Björk, Coldplay, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fiona Apple, etc) and I might post stuff here but this is mainly for other fandoms. I am a K-pop stan (mainly girl groups) and I sometimes post them. My main groups are BLACKPINK, Dreamcatcher, (G)-IDLE, Aespa, and IVE. I’m also obsessed with Taemin. I’m not against RPF on principal (as long as it doesn’t involve minors) and I’ve written some K-pop fics before. I don’t write smut because of me being ace. If I do crosspost or promote my AO3 here a lot of my fics are sad. But I mainly post fanfic of fictional stuff. I also don’t like people who are obsessive weird stans with K-pop, pop singers, rappers, it doesn’t matter who it is. Basically any celebrity if you stalk them or think you can marry them that’s weird! Fanfiction is FICTION and they are real people with lives. I see this stuff a lot in the K-pop community so I just wanted to put that as a disclaimer here I in no way support that behavior.

Im I’m a lot of fandoms but my main ones are Genshin, ATLA, Sonic, Mega Man, Legend of Zelda, Mario, Daria, MCU (mainly GOTG these days) Disney/Pixar, Spiderverse + animation in general. I used to be into Star Wars and Hunger Games but I’m more casual with it now. Im bad at watching shows because of my ADHD and need to finish stranger things and umbrella academy someday and then I’ll post them haha. I have a lot of dead fandoms from not finishing stuff. Also I used to be into Harry Potter but I’ve cut all ties with that because of JKR. I won’t hate you if you like HP stuff especially fan content but if you support JKR I’m gonna block you.

I don’t kin characters hardcore but there are definitely some that have more than one relatable aspect to me or I just love posting stuff about: Zuko, Katara, Blues, Zero, Mirabel, Shadow, Nimona, Rocket, Nebula, Vanellope, Gwen, Diluc, Scara—those are just some of my favorites and I’ll post a lot of spam about them lol. If you hate on me or others for having headcanons unless it’s like really really screwed up then don’t come on my page! I’m cool w all ships aside from p3d0 stuff (I personally don’t read 1ncest but it it’s fiction idrc. I will mention I’m in the Archie Sonic fandom to an extent and I ship Knuxulie who are distant cousins, but I don’t count is as 1ncest because everyone is technically related, it’s pretty distant, and Ken Penders is weird. It’s stuff like siblings, parent/child, first cousins, etc. that icks me out. I also don’t ship adopted siblings like Thor and Loki because that’s still incest so stop. robot masters are a gray area because there are so many Wilybots, there is a brief mention of Snake/Shadow in the fic, but all the main sibling ones I don’t ship together.) and people who say shit like “all reylos are toxic” don’t fly with me. I use this as an example because it’s what my ex used to do. Also taking things way too seriously about fiction like saying SU is the worst thing ever (I also want to mention my ex agreed with Lily Orchard and when I pointed out the rightful criticism she got for her lack of research, he said people only hate her because she is trans. He is a cis guy.) I also want to be clear that cishet guys who hate Korra as a character are on thin ice. I have weirdly specific boundaries because of my ex bf.

I hate people who gatekeep stuff in fandoms too unless you’re gatekeeping it from racist people or something. I also hate people who say “you’re not a real fan if you like/dislike a thing the fandom dislikes/likes”, people who harass writers or actors because they don’t like a show like be fr. So if I see that stuff on my page you’ll be blocked. Also saying stuff is non canon just because you don’t like it. The two biggest examples are the Star Wars sequel trilogy and BOTW/TOTK. People who say anyone who likes the sequel trilogy is a fake fan, and people who say that TOTK isn’t a real Zelda game just because they don’t like it. It’s annoying.

Stuff I dig about your OC's TA jaunt excerpt, in no particular order: (1) good range of third-person perspectives/voices; (2) the Mower Incident; (3) Biff-er, Cardin's crap not going unnoticed; (4) Blake getting a bit back WRT Weiss' Company Heir screeds; (5) Fei also a bit put on-the-spot by the Doc. Finally, put my vote down for a full-bore school supply duel (papercut aura slashes? dual-wield staple gunplay? Protractor fencing?).

(1) This chapter takes place relatively early in the story (iirc the scene's in chapter 10 and I've written about 105 overall), so one of my priorities here was establishing the distinct character voices. Yang is different from Ruby who is different from Blake who is different from Weiss who is different from -

and I wanted both their internal narration and external dialogue to both reflect that and remain consistent with what we know of how they speak and think and act and feel in the show. If I can't imagine a character saying a line with the actual voice and inflection and word choice they use in the show, I'll scrap it or rework it until I can.

(2) Yang and Ruby are both accomplished engineers and habitual troublemakers, you cannot convince me they didn't test out their newfound knowledge and skills on the most readily-available household appliances, much to their father's chagrin. You also can't convince me that Qrow did not encourage them enthusiastically, partly because he wants to be the cool uncle, partly because he genuinely enjoys seeing them be happy and learn, and partly because he wants to antagonize Tai.

(3) That was important because Cardin's crap doesn't exactly go unnoticed in canon proper either. The main characters think his behavior is deplorable, but they don't really step in to stop it, and neither do the staff. The explanation this fic posits for that is, essentially, that this is a Huntsman Academy, and thus that anyone who can't defend themselves and is too proud to ask for help had better find a way to deal with that in a relatively safe environment before they go out into the field. Huntsmen need to be strong, good at working with others, or both, and there's no room on the battlefield for stubborn pride. Better to let them learn this lesson now than when lives are at stake.

(4) Yeah, so, like, I've been pretty vocal about my disappointment in the way Weiss's racism and Blake's racial activism have been handled in canon, so one of my goals with his story was to remember that these are, in fact, elements of their characters that exist for more than two episodes and would logically cause friction between them, especially early on before they were able to bond and reach an understanding and Weiss started putting in the effort to change and be better. I wanted that change to be more gradual in this story than it was in the show, with Weiss acknowledging that she's trying her best and still making mistakes (and not even recognizing some of the mistakes she's making) and Blake acknowledging that Weiss means well and is making the effort but still messes up and needs correction, rather than the very... abrupt... transition Weiss makes from "racist" to "not racist".

Also, Atlas sucks and Blake deserves the chance to clap back at it, because she sure as hell didn't get the opportunity when the narrative actually traveled there

(5) That was actually Ozpin's idea. I looked at his entry on the wiki and apparently he likes introducing chaos and studying the significance of people's choices (iirc we got this information from the CFVY books I haven't read), so I figured things were getting a little too easy for Feilan and had Ozpin ask Oobleck to shake things up a bit. This was also meant to show that while he's not, like, fully prepared to be a leader or a mentor at this (early) stage of his development, he does have the innate ability to think quickly and respond to changing circumstances.

Also yeah I feel like someone should get to stab Cardin with a pen John Wick style but I have plans for him so he gets to live another day

Hey its me again lol and I just come up with more stuff in my mind about your fic when you read my feedback which Im glad that you appreciated it!

1. I was so glad that you made Y/N to actually interact with almost everyone outside from the main characters (Arthur, Abigail, Dutch, Hosea, and John) and give them depth to each other! Srs whenever I read a fic on character x reader, especially rdr2 fics they always ignore the side characters that is also important which you don't have to make every side character important or have a conversation with the reader but at least have 5 or 6 characters outside to interact with unless they are aloof that has social anxiety. I was a bit dissapointed with how little we get to interact with John, which I can't blame if he wants to be emo all day but I felt like he should be more supportive to Y/N but is the type to be realistic while Hosea could give Y/N some hope but lead to be naive.

2. Now I was actually shocked that things went by fast with just 24 chapters we are in middle of chapter 4 compare to every rdr2 that I imagine we would already be in beginning of chapter 3 lol. I don't actually mind that though, the writing style actually helped the pacing along with the longer chapters. I just felt that some things were left missing that could have a potential for Y/Ns character and other relationship. I don't want you to do every event though, that be exhausting and annoying for both you and readers to read through. In other words, the pacing can sometimes be fast on how we can go from being ok in this area to whoops we need to go.

3. I think having a plot B could create more tension and be more engaging to read. Not necessarily important though, but it be cool that Y/N would struggle with wanting to bring back the way Arthur and her had in the past and on the other hand Y/N would struggle with herself and others for sometimes feeling not doing good enough for the gang despite how HARD she works.

I do also recommend to go check out some rdr2 theories, essays, character and worldbuilding study like Strangeman, Fizhy and Real Pixels from youtube! I hope this helped and gave you something new :)) As always, looking forward more from you!

The Three Letters (Chapter 6)

Chapter 6: A Journey to the Past

This got more experimental than usual… Upsss?? I even had to divide the chapter in two because it was already too long XDDD So this is now a 15 chapters fic (for now lol). Don't worry, I'll finish it no matter how many chapters I add (it will take me a while because I have a life and that kind of stuff ehehehehe but I'll finish it, don't worry about it.)

So yeah… Jacob centered chapter (that's another reason this took so long to write… English is not my first language, and changing my writing to fit his speech is really challenging for me. It gives me room to be creative though, which is always a win).

Summary: Jacob gets absorbed by his own memory and, while Lara tells everyone how she managed to acquire the Atlas, his mind travels back in time to relive everything he felt while he stayed behind.

Just as Sofia predicted, once the whole dining and music is over, everyone reunites and sits forming a circle in the area they were dancing less than an hour ago, and, of course, Lara quickly becomes the center of attention.

The two girls sit together after Sofia secures a seat in the best lit area. Her father, to her surprise, doesn't follow them, and instead decides to sit right behind the opposite part of the circle, resting his weight onto the fence of the closest cabin, sitting alone in the dark where only Lara, who stands up to share her stories, has a clear view of him.

Jacob doesn’t know how to feel about the whole deal. Part of him is really curious about her past before she found them and all her adventures after she left Siberia a few years ago. But, another side of him, is truly worried she’s going to force herself to share something she’s not ready yet to tell.

He gives her a ‘you don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to’ look right before she’s about to speak, to which she replies with a soft smile to reassure him that she’ll be okay.

Lara has shared with him bits and pieces of what led them to meet years ago, but even he is surprised to hear the full story, mesmerized by the way she shares the astounding achievements she accomplished like it’s nothing special, and heart broken by the inflection in the tone of her voice as she talks about Grim, Alex and especially about Roth, subtle enough to hide her true emotions from anyone else but not good enough to fool him too.

The moment she finishes the story, explaining their escape from the island, everyone starts to murmur all at once, commenting on their favorite bits with whoever is sitting right by their side.

Everyone except Jacob.

Jacob, who keeps processing everything she just said, quickly starts to worry not about her words, but for all the untold details they implied, wishing with all his heart to have misinterpreted some of the things that only him was able to catch, especially about the whole story of how she got her first kill.

He spirals into these thoughts for a while before someone’s voice raises among the whispers to ask Lara a direct question.

“And what about Sam? Is she okay now after all that?” Says one of the villagers, curious about the consequences of the experience on the poor girl that almost got sacrificed to a ghost japanese queen.

“Yeah…” Lara smiles and nods, but there’s a hint of hesitation on her words before she continues. “Or so I’m told… I haven’t seen her in a while.” She sighs and takes a moment before continuing. “ We cut ties even before I came here…” And redirecting her eyes to Jacob she adds: “...sometimes you have to sacrifice things for the greater good and I… I needed to keep going.”

Lara’s mind spirals for a bit into her own memories, trying to pinpoint the precise moment where her friendship with Sam started to crumble into pieces, tainting their shared and happy years with all the misery that followed them.

Nevertheless, after a few seconds of reflection, she manages to get back to her train of thoughts, shaking her head a couple of times in order to do so.

“And that’s what led me here, in the end.”

The whole village starts to cheer and clap at her sentence, which makes Lara smile a little, surprised by their reaction to being now featured as the center of the story.

“Well, I guess that you already know how this part goes, so I’ll skim through it…”

In less than a second she gets the negative reaction she was expecting, with everyone, especially the younger part of the group, wanting to hear the whole thing with as many details as possible, which makes her smile even more.

“Okay, okay… I’ll start from the beginning.”

And so she does.

There’s a general hush and anticipation when she starts talking, everyone paying all the attention possible to everything she’s saying. But this peaceful atmosphere, just as she imagines, doesn’t last for long.

The claps start as she begins to explain how she escaped from Konstantine’s prison, helping Jacob to get out of the cell where they met for the first time, and carry on as she tells them how he saved her life back in return after they fell into the freezing river.

All eyes go to Jacob as they keep cheering and clapping, making him break into laughter to finally stand and make a subtle bow before looking at Lara, which she returns right away.

Sofia blushes, and everyone giggles, as she explains how this one almost shot at her at the entrance of the village, the first time she tried to set foot on it, followed by a: “We’re lucky Jacob made it back just in time!” That an unknown villager shouts from the back of the crowd, making all of them laugh even more.

Lara spends a great deal time explaining the details of the high and lows of her journey, very amused by the way the they react to her story: gasping, cheering and laughing in an almost never ending loop, only occasionally interrupted by a thick silence that spreads for a few minutes whenever she tackles the more serious moments of her past.

Jacob listens with care back where is sitting, alone behind the whole crowd, paying attention to everything she says as his mind throws memories at him to complete what she’s left out of her speech on purpose.

So, when she tells them how they argued about the Atlas and went to look for it, even when he told her not to, his mind drifts away instantly to replay the part of the story she’s not telling them.

His side.

Jacob is seated at the end of the observatory stairs, his eyes fixed to the ground as his mind replays the whole conversation all over again.

“Then help me find it… Before they do!”Jacob hesitated for a second, with his heart shattering into pieces. Half of him wanting to aid her, half of him dreading the thought of it.

As he would come to regret later on, his fears were the ones to win the battle. “This is not your burden.”

That didn’t really happen… He says to himself, in a futile attempt of changing what he knows to be the truth.

“Of course it is! My father died for this.”Her words scared his heart more than he was expecting. So he chose his own even more carefully. More targeted.

He lets his head fall down between his knees, bringing his hands to the back of his neck.

He chose to hurt her. “You can’t fill the emptiness inside you, Lara.”

“It didn’t happen…” He whispers unconsciously, like his body thinks that the past will be miraculously rewritten by manifesting his wishes out loud on the present.

Nevertheless, his futile attempts to erase the last hour of his life are just that: futile. His only relief being brought to him in the shape of a memory, the last of his words to Lara, that now also apply to him, slithering through his mind to give an end to both stories.

“You can only set it free.”

“I can only set it free…” He replies to his past self, now in his present, knowing he doesn’t have any other option than to accept what’s happened and move forward.

But, after everything said and done, how could he?

“Father…”

The sudden appearance of a new voice interrupting his train of thoughts doesn’t startle Jacob, who has been expecting to have this conversation for a while now.

“I know… ”

His voice almost breaks as his mind quickly replays the highlight of their argument.

“You can’t fill the emptiness inside you, Lara.”

“How could you say those things to…”

His mind fights back one last time, torturing with the memory of the shock on Lara’s face after hearing his reproach.

“I’m gonna find it. With or without you.”

“I know.” He replies, in a much firmer tone of voice now, angry with her for risking her life because of him, and angry at himself for allowing it.

“You can pay it with me if you want to, but that’s not gonna get you anywhere.”

“...” Jacob sighs and takes a moment to calm down as he leans a little backwards, resting his weight on his elbows. “I know.” He admits one last time, raising his head to look at his daughter in an apologetic way. “I’m sorry.”

Sofía breaks a little smile and takes a seat by his side, looking for a few seconds at the last ray of sun setting on the horizon before speaking one more time.

“You know she will find out, right?” She finally tells him.

“I just wished…” He starts saying without thinking, mainly to himself, while turning his head to look at his daughter, sitting right next to him with a confused look in her eyes. “I mean… I know… She’s quite clever, isn’t she?” Jacob rectifies just in time, successfully masquerading his true feelings behind his usual ambiguity.

“Then what are you waiting for?”

He is confused for a second before understanding the switch on his daughter’s opinion and what she is truly trying to imply with her words.

“I thought you didn’t trust strangers…”

“Lara is no longer a stranger.” She replies, feeling a bit ashamed of how she acted and treated her at the beginning of their relationship. “And, to be honest, she may be the only one able to end this, once and for all.”

Jacob smiles faintly at his daughter’s words.

“Yeah, I think so too.”

“Then?”

“I honestly don’t know…” Jacob sighs. “But you’re right, I should tell her.”

He takes his time, still hesitating about it, but he finally stands up, with his daughter following him right after, and turns to look at her before asking what he’s been anxious to inquire.

“Do you know where I may find her?”

“Erm…” Sofia’s expression drastically freezes in a matter of seconds. “You’ll see…” She attempts to evade his question, without any success.

“You didn’t tell her…” He barely whispers, shocked by what he’s fearing.

Jacob closes the distance between them as fast as he’s able, grabbing his daughter by the arms in the process.

“Tell me you didn’t tell her!”

Her father’s choice of words startles Sofia, who never in her entire life has seen him raise his voice or react to something like this.

“I...” She doesn’t know how to answer, shocked by the tinge of anger on Jacob’s sentence. Nevertheless, he doesn’t need to hear it to know what she is hesitant to say out loud.

Reality hits Jacob harder than expected, piercing a void in his heart only to be filled by fear and rage.

“You send her to face the deadless, on her own.” The dread of this thought seems to wound his soul in a way he’s never experienced before, feeling like an invisible thread is attached to it, and an unknown force that keeps pulling it with all its strength in an attempt to rip all his being inside out.

Sofía finally manages to recover from the initial shock, and quickly stands her ground, stating what she really thinks about the topic that brought about their entire argument.

“I didn’t send her anywhere, father.” She replies, feeling a bit hurt by his words. “And, no… I didn’t try to stop her either.” Jacob closes his eyes for a second and takes a deep breath, slowly releasing his daughter from his grasp. “Besides, I think you already know I wouldn't have been able to do so even if I wanted to.”

Silence fills the air for a few seconds.

Sofia is now the one taking a moment to clear her mind after saying all this, trying to be understanding of her father's situation, thinking that Lara discovering their secret is what keeps him uneasy, and unaware of the true feelings that are now causing Jacob’s heart to crumble at the mention of her name. Tortured by the thought that she’s is now in danger because of him.

“I know what you must be feeling…”

You do not. His mind answers, too deep into his suffering to keep denying the true feelings that hide behind it.

“I know why you’re upset.”

You do not. He thinks again, but he nods, not ready yet to share the truth with anyone else.

“And Lara… Lara is strong. And wise.”

That manages to get a subtle smile out of him, followed by a second nod.

“She can handle it… And I think she really wants to help us.”

“...”

Another deep breath.

“Your… Our secret, will be safe with her.”

“...” Jacob nods a third time, following his gesture with a quick hug. “I know…” He finally answers in the middle of it. “I know.”

After the embrace is over, Sofia spends a couple of seconds analyzing his expression and, completely fooled by his now peaceful demeanor, she smiles at him and asks if we would like to help her fortify the main village.

“Levi has offered to help me, but if you want to join me…”

“I’d love to…” He replies with a faint smile.

“But?”

The fact that she knows him so well gets a chuckle out of him.

“But… I have other matters to attend to.” He lies. “I am sorry.” He lies again. “Do you mind if I join you later, once I’ve finished?”

“Sure.”

He despises not being honest, especially with his family but, right now, he needs to be alone.

He needs to think, and his daughter, who maybe senses more than she’s able to understand, quickly grants his wishes, giving him a peck on the cheek and walking away, leaving Jacob with his fear, his guilt and his feelings, along with his never ending stream of desperate thoughts.

Forgive me, Sofia… He apologizes now that she’s gone, while he starts walking without a fixed route, hating the fact that he’s deceiving her by keeping the cruel truth to himself. But… I cannot tell you… At least, not yet. I… I don’t even understand…

He does.

“I…”

And he cannot pretend he doesn’t. Not anymore. Not after today.

I…

Even his thoughts choke when he thinks of it, unaware there were feelings left for him to discover after so many years and so many lives.

Another deep breath.

“...”

Jacob keeps walking, with the darkness as his only companion, letting his feet guide him wherever they want to go.

Why now?

He asks, more to the heavens than to himself, mortified by the cruel timing he thinks the Lord has chosen for this to happen.

A part of him is almost expecting to get a reply to the question, unconsciously waiting for minutes to hear something in the wind as he keeps walking away while headed nowhere.

But it does not arrive.

It never arrives.

So he tries again.

“Why her?”

His voice disappears into the air along with his question. This time around although, he is not expecting an answer, and perhaps, or better said most likely, it’s because he already knows it.

After minutes of wandering, without a set course or route, he finally stops walking and, even if he hasn’t been paying attention to the path taken, now that he’s there he’s perfectly aware of where he’s been headed since the beginning.

After all, it is his favorite place in the entire world.

Despite the darkness, Jacob knows to perfection where everything is. Every little plant, every little rock. The hidden path that leads to the rim of the cliff, which he takes without hesitation, as he’s done countless times before, sitting on the edge, with his legs hanging from it, as he rests all his weight back and relaxes a little, taking in the views that hold such a special place inside his heart.

The murmur of the river and the thundering waterfall, crashing in the otherwise silent night, is a well known melody for him. A masterful composition that always manages to calm him down no matter the problem he needs to face.

That’s another first for Jacob. For, this time around, his thoughts, slowly but surely, are becoming louder than this cherished symphony, flooding his mind with too much noise to let him hear anything else.

The glimmers of light that sparkle in the water, which he usually examines for hours, caused by the stars and the moon that shine brighter than ever on the dark indigo sky are not enough, for the first time ever, to catch his attention or, better said, distract him, from what’s really eating him alive.

Instead, what used to be his sanctuary, seems to be turning in a new weapon for the universe to torture him even further, in which everything he ever thought to be beautiful or mesmerizing, is now just a reminder of each and every inch of all her being.

He cannot look at the dark shimmering river without picturing her sparkling umber eyes, or hear the water crashing against the rocks without imagining her voice and her laugh, nor feeling the air run through his hair without remembering hers flowing in the wind.

Why her? He asked before, and asks again, despite knowing way too well why.

“Why her…?” He murmurs now, but with a different tone, questioning the question instead of its subject. “Her indeed… Her.”

Jacob laughs at the thought of it.

How not?

How? He finally surrenders, and all his feelings break loose.

How could someone meet her and walk away?

A deep breath in, a deep breath out.

How could anyone think of anything after thinking of her.

His eyelids fall, his heartbeat hikes.

How can they look away when she’s on sight?

How can they move? How can they breathe?

Right hand on the ground.

Left one on his knee.

How can my soul not fall apart?

How does one fight his own heart, if it’s not really meant to be?

How can I do more than crash, and burn and fall again, right at her feet?

The memory is so vivid that it takes him a little to hear the loud sound of people reacting to the end of Lara’s story about the Atlas, muffled by the reminder of that unforgettable night, where he realized he could no longer deny that he had fallen in love as never before in his life.

She stops talking just in time to see him starting to come back, taking the opportunity, now that the crowd speaks and laughs, to set her focus on Jacob for the first time in a while.

Him, on the other side, still needs a few more seconds to catch up.

The sound of the river gradually transforms back into laughter, the crash of the water into their comments, and his mind finally returns to reality, after its enthralling journey to the past, finding now, in his present, his only reason to come back and to keep going.

His eyes quickly search for hers, which are already waiting for him, falling again into that mesmerizing umber glow, as he did so long ago, and letting their gaze melt into one another as they both get lost into the other’s sight.

Way too enchanted to look away.

Way too in love even try.

Hell yeah!! Spent more than an hour on that ending, believe it or not, and I'm still not 100% happy about it… But overall I'm soooo happy to post a new chapter for this fic.

Next one we have Lara's pov of the "true" ending of RotTR so… yeah! Get ready because it's gonna get wild. Imma nuke the canon through the roof for that one lol

10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?

There are lots of things that haunt me, I guess in the sense that I think about them long after I’m done reading. Hyperion and Song of Kali, both by Dan Simmons, though for different reasons. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell (which I DNFed about 10 pages from the end because I just couldn’t handle the tragedy). Perdido Street Station by China Miéville. Kiss and Tell by Adib Khorram (which I think every single person who engages in celebrity fandom needs to read...it’s YA so it’s ‘easy’).

As far as my own writing, I guess I’d probably say the two fics that haunt me are Anamnesis and Do No Harm. Both are tragedies and I think I did a pretty good job. Every time I reread them I always find myself rooting for things not to turn out the way I know they turn out.

19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

The story I always tell about How I Started Writing is: in 6th grade, I was at my dad's office for Take Your Daughter To Work Day. My dad was a civil engineer, and quite honestly I wasn't really interested in what he was doing, I just wanted a day off from school. I very distinctly remember sitting at his desk in his office and thinking to myself, I'm going to write a story. I'd written stuff before that, but I'd never thought of it in that way, as an actual story with a plot—the sort of thing I'd read in a book.

So I pulled out the notebook that I was probably supposed to be using to take notes about my dad's job—boring!—and started writing an Enchanted Forest Chronicles fanfiction. Only, this was before the internet, so I didn't know the word for what I was doing was 'fanfiction.'

I think I started writing because I loved reading so much, and I wanted to tell my own stories. I always think of writing as the sort of play you do as a kid, but taken into an adult space. My sister and I had these elaborate, ongoing storylines for our toys, and writing is kind of a way to keep playing, I guess, past childhood.

Where am I now? Sitting here with two completed original novels, a completed AU that I want to turn into an original novel, and some in progress AUs that are barely even AUs, they're just original fiction with main characters named Loki Odinson and Stephen Strange. I want to publish, and I'm hopeful I can find a romance novel publisher that will accept my work.

Also, sorry Dad, your job was actually not boring, but when I was eleven years old I loved dragons and cats and not engineering.

21. Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?

Definitely not! There were a few years where I thought maybe I'd lost the ability, but it came back. I definitely don't wish I could stop writing. It's so much of who I am.

35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?

Complete sentences. I LOVE fragments. I mean, obviously I love complete sentences too. But I've always used a lot of fragments in my writing (purposefully, not because I didn't understand how to write a grammatically correct sentence).

20 Questions for Fic Writers

Nobody tagged me in this (because I never get tagged in anything) but I thought it would be interesting to do. I saw this circulating in the Clone Wars fandom, but I know it's in other places as well.

1.How many works do you have on AO3? Only 9, but I have hundreds of WIPs on my hard-drive, most of which are like one tiny passage or a summary that will never go anywhere. My brain is an ideas factory and it cannot be stopped.

2.What’s your total AO3 word count? As of January 2024, it’s 176,227 in total, but 122,240 of that is across two works: - The Greenleaf and the Son of the Forest (83414 words) - In Our Brothers We Trust (38826 words)

3.What fandoms do you write? Currently, Star Wars (Clone Wars/Bad Batch era) and Hobbit/LotR, though I used to write a lot of Kylux stuff (Star Wars Sequels), but the WIPs span everything from Cats to The Witcher to Pirates to Narnia. Told you, the ideas factory never stops.

4.What are your top five fics by kudos? - Frost-Bitten – 171 - Alphabetically, I love you – 167 - Force Fed – 137 - Scars and All – 89 - Ruby Red and Jet Black – 75 Which means that my two current projects (Greenleaf and IOBWT) don’t make this list, because they have 37 and 54 kudos respectively. It’s all my old Kylux stuff that gets the top spots, but I do approve of the top score. Frost-Bitten is one of my faves.

5.Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I usually respond to the first few comments on any given fic, because I’m just so excited that somebody read it and it resonated enough for them to write me a message. I do save all the AO3 notification emails though and I read through them sometimes when my writing is driving me nuts.

6.What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don’t actually write angst all that much. I’ve had angsty chapter endings sometimes, but it’s never that bad and it usually gets resolved.

7.What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? They’re all pretty happy, what can I say? I’m a sap and I like a nice wrapped-up story with a happy ending. The ending of Frost-Bitten is probably my favourite though.

And despite the chill of the Knight of Winter’s lips on his, the Lord of Autumn melts…

8.Do you get hate on fics? Not to my knowledge. I’m aware that most of what I write is headcanon that got away from me though, so it’s not most people’s cup of tea.

9.Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope. Kissing and cuddles is as close as we get, maybe a bit of non-sexual BDSM is it’s needed.

10.Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written? I was on t’internet when the whole Tangled/HTTYD/Brave/RotG crossover was a thing. Some very pretty art out there, let me tell you. And I do have what would have become a giant AtLA AU in that, but I’ve never done anything with it beyond a few passages.

11.Have you ever had a fic stolen? Sometimes when I was in high school, or just finished, there was a site that copied a lot of fics from FF.net, under the same usernames and everything, but I think the site was taken down? Not sure, either it way it was only old Cats fic on mine so…

12.Have you ever had a fic translated? No. I could probably do it in German or Spanish, it would just take me forever.

13.Have you ever co-written fic before? Who would want to play in my silly little sandpit? Only me, I tell you.

14.What’s your all-time favourite ship? I was reading a lot of Malec stuff at one point, or Geraskier, and a lot of SamBucky/WinterFalcon just after Falcon and the Winter Soldier came out. And Kylux, way back when. I don’t really have a favourite ship though, just a lot of ones I like and will happily read.

15.What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I’m not going to say Greenleaf, because I will make myself finish it. The wider universe that Greenleaf exists in though, I probably won’t ever truly be done with (White Knife, Silver Flame). I’m like Tolkien in that respect.

16.What are your writing strengths? Characterisation and getting into characters’ heads. I write lots of little dialogue pieces and odd passages for how characters interact, most of which never see the light of day, they are just writing exercises. I also try to never delete anything, if a passage isn’t working out how I want it to, I just move it to its own document and keep it as a reference. Sometimes it’s an excellent bit of writing, it just needs to go somewhere else.

17.What are your writing weaknesses? I find it really hard to write in one fandom if I’m watching the content for something else. I can’t write Star Wars if I’m watching LotR for example. Music and soundtracks are usually okay though, just no music with words or I get distracted.

18.Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I do it in both of my current projects, but I always provide a translation at the end of the chapter. If it’s little things like petnames, I think it’s fine and it can add a sense of authenticity to the world. You can do a larger passage in another language, but it can be jarring to the reader if it’s not worked into the story in the right way.

19.First fandom you wrote for? Cats, the musical and original movie, not that 2019 monstrosity. We don’t talk about that.

20.Favourite fic you’ve ever written? I’m actually really enjoying writing IOBWT, which is my Domino Survives AU. It’s fun getting to explore what Hevy and Cutup and Droidbait might have been like if they survived past Rishi, the same as Fives and Echo.

Greenleaf is also fun to write in parts, because I’ve loved Tolkien’s world since I was like ten. But it’s a battle getting the chapters out at the moment, just because of how the story’s structured.

Favourite thing I’ve ever written? Frost-Bitten, which is a Kylux Fantasy Seasonal AU, where Hux belongs to Autumn and Kylo belongs to Winter. It’s very cute and fluffy and it’s one of only a few pieces of my earlier writing that I can read and not cringe at.
