I think I would do two things, a fic and an AU, both would end up with an MK being totally mentally deranged but with different dynamics

For the AU it's something I just made up, it's not totally clear but I would like to see MK being a ray of sunshine but hurting people, not an edgy "hahaha, I hurt you because I'm bad" thing, but he doesn't enjoy hurting to people, he is so well trained to kill that when he does it is with such enthusiasm that it is scary (by enthusiasm I do not mean smiles or laughter, but rather with great euphoria and strength)

He does not feel guilty, he only knows that it is his duty because he has been instructed to do so. (mMMM I WONDER BY WHO (YES, IS WUKONG, YOU CAN LAUGH NOW) )

And he does it to make his mentor proud, he wants his mentor to see him as a worthy successor.

It would be like a Wukong in his youth, doing everything the easy way and without remorse, he would be a bit conceited but I think the factor that comes into focus the most is that he is thirsty for blood and power that will do whatever it takes to achieve it, committing acts cruel only so that at the end of the day he happily arrives next to his mentor and happily says

"Monkey King, guess what I did today!"

without any remorse

thinking about a no upside down au steddie fic where steve and eddie run into each other years after moving away from hawkins, and eddie remembers steve and his fall from grace as king, and is kind of intrigued to see what kind of person he is now

and steve doesn’t remember him at all at first, because, look, eddie changed his hair again, and steve’s had a few head injuries (no upside down but i imagine he still went thru some shit with the party and with robin), and he didn’t really think about eddie in high school anyway, and he’s trying to forget about hawkins as much as possible (besides the kiddos, but they’re all moved out for college now, anyway) (obviously he lives with robin)

but steve is different now, happier, more open, flirts with guys, flirts with EDDIE, and eddie….. well, he wants to know more! and he tells steve he knows him from hawkins, and steve’s sunny little smile flickers a little, but he just apologizes for not remembering him and mentions he has some memory problems

and they get to know each other, and eventually as eddie tells him more (and maybe with the help of some yearbooks) steve remembers eddie. and. well. they like getting to know each other. and they like each other. and then they get together

eventually they’ve been together for a while, and eddie thinks he wants to maybe introduce steve to wayne, and he mentions he’s going to go back to hawkins for a long weekend (as he’s done a couple times) and this time he’d like steve to join him

and again steve’s sunny smile flickers a bit, but he says he’d love to meet eddie’s uncle, and… they go to hawkins. and it goes well— meeting wayne, at least, but steve seems a little on edge the whole time they’re there, tense when they drive in, fidgety when they go to the grocery store, et cetera. eddie thinks maybe steve is nervous about staying with the man who raised eddie, which is ridiculous, because wayne LOVES steve.

it’s not til they leave the town altogether that steve relaxes, and eddie realizes it wasn’t “meeting the parents” but rather going back to hawkins. and speaking of meeting the parents, steve didn’t ever bring his own up, even though eddie knew they still lived in hawkins. and the way steve glanced around whenever they went in public, like he was scared of getting recognized

and he asks about it, and steve doesn’t really want to talk about it, but he gives eddie snippets of it. people he wanted to leave behind in hawkins, memories that resurfaced, things he wants to forget

eddie goes back to see wayne sometimes, and the first time he doesn’t know whether to ask steve to come, so he just mentions he’s thinking about going to hawkins for some weekend and steve immediately starts making plans with him as if the invite is implicit. they go back to hawkins several more times, steve still tense and pent up the whole time they’re there

over time steve reveals more and more to eddie. everything that made hawkins hell for him, from the things he himself did in high school to the things people did to him. stuff tommy and carol and billy said to him. some of it is just typical high school bullshit (and oh, the nancy thing.) some of it is the tragedies steve went through, the horrors he had to protect his kids from. the injuries he sustained. more generally the homophobia that permeated the whole town, keeping steve from being himself. the lack of support in the indiana public school system for a high school senior who’s had two concussions and gone through incredible trauma.

his parents. the reason why steve’s mail is addressed to ‘steve buckley’ now, not ‘steve harrington’.

(that doesn’t come out until much, much later, and eddie is kicking himself for ever suggesting steve come back to hawkins.)

eddie, who hardly had an easy time of it in hawkins, is absolutely blown away by what steve had gone through in the same town, right under his nose. the entire persona that steve was trying to leave behind — the cool as a cucumber, unaffected, douchey mask he wore to hide all that he had endured. the head injuries. the emotional tragedies he had gone through. the way he had to be the rock for the kids even as he went through the same things as them.

he tries to tell steve they never have to go back to hawkins again, and steve is having none of it. he tells steve wayne can come visit them in their new city, and steve thinks that’s completely unfair to the man who had raised eddie, seriously, you’re going to make him come all the way up here?

and well i don’t know exactly what the ending is but steve is so stubborn about trying to love hawkins because it was eddie’s home and he wants to be able to go see wayne because wayne deserves to see his kid and eddie deserves to see his uncle and steve doesn’t want to be the problem :(

I think @heynhay's original idea of Keith & Lance working together at the same firm is best. For both plot reasons but also for my own morale LOL

So everyone works at a fairly large private firm that splits its practice and has some of its associates doing profit-driven law (i.e. corporate or finance) which subsidizes the public interest/service work that the other associates do.

The firm is like "Altea & Daibazaal LLP" or something. Yes I am implying that the firm was started by Alfor and Zarkon. Yes I am implying that Allura and Lotor are nepo babies.

I know I originally said that Keith and Lance were law school rivals but I've changed my mind... (RIP to the law school rivalry dynamics

Instead I'm making it so that Keith and Lance are the same age but Lance has been practicing longer because he went straight into law school after college. Whereas Keith started working after college and got like a Master's degree in Social Work or something before deciding on law school at 26. (I just think Keith is the kind of person who goes to law school later in life.)

Okay onto the specific Klance dynamics... Keith and Lance are both pushing 30 and are also literally lawyers so they are professional and serious about their work... But there is wiggle room for them to still be rivals :p

Lance and Keith are both junior associates at the firm. Lance has seniority because he's been at the firm longer but he's still a year or so away from formally becoming a senior associate.

Lance really, REALLY wants to make partner and he sees Keith as his biggest threat/rival because Keith is Shiro's little brother, and Shiro recently made partner at the firm, so Lance thinks Keith might be a nepo hire. Also some of the senior associates recently left the firm so now Lance is stuck showing Keith the ropes and he's lowkey super bitter about it.

Basically TLDR Lance starts off Not Liking Keith at all for various real or imagined reasons and begins a work rivalry with him. Keith doesn't actually GAF about making partner because he's only planning on working at the firm for a few years to help pay off his student loans, but Lance doesn't know that. However, Keith is a naturally very competitive person, and he also likes having Lance's attention, so Keith immediately goes all in on the rivalry.

Lance, internally: "This Fucking Guy."

Keith, internally: "I am so good at flirting."

The first few months are rough between them. However both are also incredibly productive in their work.

The romcom part of the AU kicks in once the two of them have to start working together on a huge high stakes civil case and they're both like wow.... *twirls hair* he's so competent.............. <3

Anyway misc. things:

TBH I have no idea what kind of law Keith and Lance might private practice... I'm also really torn on what Shiro, Allura, and Hunk would practice hdjsksdhedf

Pidge is hired on a fellowship for either environmental law or data security/privacy law.

Coran does employment law.

Keith went into law school planning on going into public interest/not-for-profit legal aid and swore he would never, ever do corporate law but then he saw his student loans and was like. Hm. Okay maybe some Biglaw is okay. And that's how he ended up at the firm.

i was actually thinking about this todayyyyy. i think. uccio would be not so chill about vale choosing to come out and identify himself as the other guy with marc in those photos. perhaps maybe possibly. like not only does he think it’s a dumb PR move but ALSO vale is tying himself to marc in the public consciousness FOREVER here… even if they break up in a year like they plan no one is ever gonna talk about vale without bringing up marc in some context. which number one valentino rossi legacy defender and marc hater uccio salucci is gonna have a problem with. especially since he either earnestly believes marc sabotaged vale in philip island or went insane in the membrane enough to try and manipulate vale using telemetry to get him to hate marc as well. either way he’s not thrilled

so i think he comes at marc again in the wake of all this being like. well clearly he called that paparazzi to photograph you trap you and ruin your life and he planned that tryst in the alleyway and is in fact an EVIL TEMPTRESS who wants to organize your DOWNFALL. very shakespearean predicament tbh. and truly that’s finally what gets vale to be like um. what. because he was there!!! he was the one who found MARC that night!!! he kissed HIM!!! and he saw the look on marc’s face when the camera flashed and he’s seen how tired he’s been the last few weeks and the comments on twitter and the way he’s barely holding himself together with both fucking hands and his goddamn fingernails!!! and he knows marc would not fucking make that happen on purpose. and that’s what cracks the uccio vale relationship…

which makes vale feel even worseeee bc johnny cash voice my empire of DIRT. he lost part his support system AND a major brick in the foundation of his title winning ego saving conspiracy has been kicked over. so. he’s alone. and he maybe ruined his relationship with marc for nothing. not even a title he lost that too. and he’s old. and has even less privacy now. and he’s not getting laid. and marc has been ignoring him in private and vale thinks he doesn’t actually want him in public bc they’re supposed to be pretending. so he’s just a lil pressure cooker waiting to pop here. and that’s not even getting into the elaborate games of pda chicken they eventually start playing
