Day 7 __ Sat Jan 7

Recording this late

Today I only got 4 hours of sleep, hoping that I could sleep on the car ride down to SoCal. I ended up only napping in the car for about an hour. It was a surprisingly pleasant ride with Megan and Olivia. Olivia's the one that has beef with Gels and Sartaj but it seems like she's trying to put that behind her since her and I are teammates and Gels and Sartaj are my friends. Tesla's are cool to ride in but inconvenient for long trips since several stops have to be made to refill juice. Stopping 3 to 4 times to refill the battery adds another 2 hours to the trip. Trunk space was awesome though. We were able to hide all of our belongings in the trunk and the frunk!

We drove straight to this Vietnamese restaurant, where we ordered fried catfish to make our own DIY spring rolls. The catfish was fried to perfection while the meat inside broke apart like butter. It was the perfect meal after a long road trip.

We also stopped by Junbi (a matcha milk tea place that JKNews owners Bart Kwan and Joe Jitsukawa own). I got the strawberry chrysanthemum drink to avoid caffeine before the tournament. We stayed at my team captain/coordinator's house and it hoenstly felt like I was staying over a cousin's house. Growing up, my parents never let me sleepover at anyone's house except if we were all on a roadtrip and were sleeping at a cousin's house.

We got to Robin's house arond 9/9:30pm, which didn't leave much time to hangout with her and her husband Ching. I believe we hungout for about 2 hours until I took a shower, prepared my belongings for tournament day, and then went to bed. All of this took about 1.5 hours. This also meant that I wasn't going to get enough sleep for the next day since I had to wake up by 6:30am. I was worried since I wanted to have a good tourny day since we drove all the way from NorCal to SoCal. I wanted it to be well worth the trip.

There were also 2 doggos there! Ella and Frankie are two pitbull rescues. Both of them were so stout and buff I just wanted to massage their shoulders HAHA. Ella is a reverse brindle, shy sweetheart. Frankie is a tan baby seal.

On a sad note, I found out that one of my teammates's (Ashley) dad has stage 4 brain cancer... the tumor, the size of a ping pong ball, was removed, but localized chemotherapy is still required. Ashley sounded very light-hearted when she broke the news to me. She said that she couldn't be super sad about it since her mom and sister were already so devastated. I felt so bad but also not surprised that Ashley wasn't super down about this. She is always the one cracking jokes and making me laugh the most on the team. She is truly a character and I pray her family situation gets better. Positive thoughts only for the Hernandez family.

OH Elisse also texted me this morning saying good luck! It warmed my heart reading her text :3 I usually never get texts like this from past friends. It's also because I never had such caring friends.

Synergy was when Casey proposed to Tiffany in front of their best friends, so David belted out the chorus to I Wanna Know, and Tim, Bart, and Joe immediately started singing in perfect harmony (although David’s was the clearest and loudest), and then Bart goes over to his drum set and started to play the exact beat and it just made the moment all the more magically bizarre but so perfect.
