#bat pony Sam

Okay, so I’m not the biggest fan of the mlp x dp crossovers, but I’m still going to rant about both versions of this very neat idea. And when I say “both versions”, I mean the idea of Danny turning into a pony and the very few fics where he doesn’t.

Idea A

Danny keeping his regular human/ghost form leaves so many unexplored possibilities in my opinion, specifically how he’s introduced. It could be a good ol’ accidental summoning or he could be a new friend of Discord’s. With the first one, it could take place anywhere, which means that we could plop him down in the Everfree Forest, the Crystal Empire, Canterlot, Appleloosa (I think I spelled that right), anywhere! With the second, maybe he was trying to escape the GiW as usual and Discord helped him, or maybe he decided to introduce him to the princesses after it was decided he’d be the king of the Ghost Zone in the future, essentially making him a prince in the meantime. And I can’t stress enough how much I love, love, love this one, but how cool would it be if he had ties to the Everfree Forest because of his existence as a Halfa?!

I’ve always had the idea that a human character would have very small and subtle “ties��� to the Everfree because some of the stuff that happens in there happens in our world. Like how when Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Applejack all mentioned that clouds moving, animals taking care of themselves, and plants grown all on their own is unnatural. Knowing this and yet still seeing creatures made of, heavily relying on, or having magic hints that it’s a place that follows some of the laws of our world and some of the rules of their rules, but not quite leaning more towards one of them. Can you see where I’m going with this? Danny’s existence as half dead, half alive, both and neither at the same time is like a more sentient, “living” example of the Everfree Forest! Can you see where my excitement is coming from?!

Idea B

Not exactly as excited about this version as Idea A, but I still love it! I’m going to take this chance to ramble about my own ideas for Tucker and Sam being there, too.

Staying true to the “goth” look she seems to love, I’d love to see her as a bat pony! We’ve already seen what the body outline would look like thanks to Flutterbat, and one of my favorite little details that I want to keep is that her bat wings were twice the size of Pegasus wings. Her coat is obviously black, along with her hair, but her mane and tail would have a pink and/or purple streak. Surprisingly, this new form doesn’t bother her too much because she liked how she looked, but getting used to it was a pain. Unfortunately, this also involved having more sensitive hearing, smell, and eyesight, which gave her more than a couple headaches and sensory issues. No, the fangs aren’t for tearing through flesh, they’re for fruits and veggies. She’d somehow gain the ability to better tell which fruits and veggies are safe for consumption even if they look fine, and even separate the sweetest ones from the rest. I can’t remember much of her, unfortunately, so for now I’ll say her cutie mark is an image of a few vegetables or the recycle mark?

Tucker would be an earth pony, and as a meat lover, he’d have half a meltdown over the fact that he can’t digest it. At least not much at once, or without it being very carefully prepared. Sam laughed, Danny tried to comfort him. Surprisingly, though, they’d come to realize while only meat isn’t the best option for his health, he can apparently digest more than the average pony, and a few of his teeth were slightly more built for this as well! So while his new diet his largely fruits and veggies now, he can still enjoy a few ribs. He’s also considered very intelligent because of his knowledge about handling technology. His cutie mark is an old phone with green wisps circling it.

Finally, Danny. Just like as a human, he has a living form and a ghost form. His living form resembles an earth pony with a tan coat and a black mane and tail, but his ghost form is an alicorn as a symbol of his status as both a halfa and prince of the Ghost Zone. His living form doesn’t have a cutie mark, but his ghost form has a black crown with green flames on his flank. This is a silent hint of how the incident changed his existence. When he’s in his ghost form, the terrifying creatures of the Everfree Forest and pony urban legends recognize his power and back away from him, so he’s starting to use that form a lot more often to keep his friends safe. Now for a couple extra headcanons!

•The whole “terrifying creatures of the Everfree Forest and pony urban legends recognize Danny’s power and back away from him” thing applies to both idea A and idea B, but they’d be more wary of him in idea A because they’ve never seen a human

•With idea B, Applejack might not let Sam into her orchard at first because of the vampire fruit bat incident, but later gets confirmation that she’s not exactly vampiric

•With idea B, Sam seems to be very, very slowly slipping towards a more nocturnal sleep schedule

•In both ideas, they get a bunch of stares from ponies for obvious reasons (in Idea B, it’s because Sam is a bat pony, Tucker eats more meat than most ponies, and Danny either doesn’t have a cutie mark or is in his alicorn form)

•In idea B, Sam and Danny would practice flying at the same time and Tucker would set up a tarp or something underneath

•In idea B, the trio might feel a little stupid for asking questions like how to do magic or fly when they’re almost as big as the mane six, but they’re surprisingly accepting of them asking for help since they’ve told them that they don’t remember having anyone to teach them how to do these things until now (Twilight and Rainbow Dash especially love to each them)

•In idea B, when Twilight casually mentioned having a couple experiments for Danny (because of his two forms), he froze in terror and Tucker immediately jumped in to protect him (Sam wasn’t there), but then she said something like “I’m just going to put a thermometer in your mouth and see if there’s a difference between your forms” and they both calmed down, but now they’re a “little” worried about worse experiments happening to Danny

•In idea B, Sam was also “experimented on”, as in they’d test her senses and discover how they’re better than the average pony’s

PLATONIC

-So first headcanon is completely unrelated to both platonic and romantic, but this man is so midwestern. You mean to tell me the Sam’s Club meat selection doesn’t hate to see him comin? Okay pal. He is so southern midwestern it is crazy.

-If you’re around his age, which I know you aren’t, thank god in theory. God, this man needs a normal person on this ship. Someone to complain about retirement years and ‘these damn kids’ with. 

-Either way, if you’re buddies with him, cool. Being close with Swansea isn’t really on a sliding scale-if you’re ‘in’ you’re in. For lifers. He won’t tell you, but you’ll know, even if he does tell you you couldn’t pour water out a boot with instructions on the heel. C’mon. C’mon, he likes you, I swear. 

-If you’re in the same boat as Daisuke, you know, young, you’re getting the same treatment as him. You could be the most precocious, intelligent little college student out there and he’s still waiting for you to fuck that up. The only way he’s gonna assume you won’t fuck up is if you’re in an iron lung, in which case, you’re taking up too much space

-I make him sound like an asshole. He is. But with a heart, you know? He cares. Or at least cares about your safety. And honestly if he had two interns to look over, at least yall can keep each other busy. 

-Not trying to like, intern!reader au you, but man if you were the other intern and Daisuke was busy being dead and all, prepare for the longest speech you’ve ever heard. Every. Pearl’s 8 minute monologue betting on losing dogs has nothing on this talk. 

-Anyway, in short, he’s just some guy, but aren’t we all……….

ROMANTIC

-oh yeah baby get ready to be underwhelmed!!

-He is going to feel so dumb having a crush at his old age. Like, this is marriage age, whatever. He never expected to find someone this late, especially on the Pony Express of all places. But hey, you must be the prettiest pony in the pasture you know what I’m sayin?

-Yeah, anyway, confession would be pretty simply. “Hey what do you think about seeing each other after this shipment.” I mean, not much has to be said. You get it. 

-Literally no one can tell you’re together. He would be more helpful with you and a bit more friendly, but mostly everything’s the same.

-Petnames. Nothing stupid like babygirl/babyboy, whatever. 

-He likes to compliment you on the sly, nothing huge, but stuff like ‘only you could make that uniform work’ or telling you to go bat your pretty eyelashes at someone else. Is that a compliment? You don’t know, but he’s not saying it to anyone else and you’ll take what you can get.

Cyanbug's Redacted Audio Headcanons

(Some of these I might use/did use in fics, but others are just there)

1. Huxley had a bunny growing up. It was potty-trained and very curious about all the flowers his moms' and him would bring into the house. They had to keep the lilies locked away in a different room, to make sure the bunny didn't eat any of them.

2. Babe got a stick and poke tattoo of an outline of a wolf on the lower part of their thigh, as a teen. It wasn't the best, and it's pretty much faded now, but they remember how upset their mom was about it when she found out. They forgot that they couldn't wear shorts or else she'd see.

3. Babe also used to go explore abandoned buildings when they were younger. They mostly went to this one building that used to be an old gristmill, but stopped going there when the roof collapsed after a bad storm. They did it to escape to a place where it was quiet, but sometimes they'd bring a friend along to go exploring. They have a bunch of printed photos from those times.

4. Asher likes to joke with Darlin' that they should serenade Sam by playing "Your Man" by Josh Turner. (baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low-)

5. Smartass was in love with horses as a kid, and would ask for a horse/pony every birthday growing up (they never got one). But they used to collect horse figurines, and still have them in a box somewhere.

6. Asset's favorite board game as a kid was "Chutes and Ladders".

7. For a year or two, David was a social toddler, but at the end of preschool he started to get really shy (nobody really knew why). The only time he seemed to open up was when Asher was around, but was never as social as he once was.

8. Christian likes to go zip-lining and he and Amanda once went on a date to one of those zip-lining and ropes courses.

9. Amanda had braces as a kid, and in her early teens, but she got them off before she headed into high school. She preferred getting neon pink rubber bands.

10. Sam got the chicken pox as a kid (his Grandma mostly took care of him for that week or so when he was sick), and one of the first good things he realized after he got turned into a vampire was that at least he wouldn't have to worry about shingles (or vaccines in general) anymore.

11. Hush doesn't really care for cheese, but whenever Doc gets something that has gooey cheese, they'll let him do the first cheese pull since he likes seeing how far he can get it to stretch. So far he's managed 16 inches with cheesy bread sticks.

12. Aaron likes Neo-Expressionism art.

13. DAVID AND ANGEL GET A CAT. They originally were going to get one after their honeymoon, but then that didn't happen because life got busy again. David thought getting them a cat might be a good [insert holiday] gift, and the two of them could go pick out one at the humane society. But then one day David found a kitten on the street as he was walking by with Milo. The kitten just waddled right up to the two of them and actually seemed to like David. So he takes it home, especially because if Milo were to take it, Aggro would have a problem sharing his people (someone made a headcanon of that awhile ago and I AGREE. Aggro doesn't like to share. He wants to be the one and only best boy. I'll have to find it later. Shout out to whoever thought of it.) And voila. They have a cute little kitten now and are cat parents :D (I have a draft of this storyline, i just haven't finished it)

14. Treasure is really into bats and has been since they were a kid. Their family would always buy them bat stuff as a kid and into adulthood, so they have a lot bat themed things. They also have an old 3rd-grade informative essay, explaining different types of bats, hidden away in a folder. They wanted to be a zookeeper as a kid, specifically so they could take care of the fruit bat exhibit. Porter thought it was ironically funny when he first was invited to their home and the amount of things related to bats (and in correlation, vampires) that they owned.

15. Lovely plays the Sims A LOT (they like to build houses or other buildings the most).

Sam and Max My Little Pony AU!

I got some lore and a looooong list of names under the cut.

Sample Space got his cutie mark for magical engineering, the invention and upkeep of any machine in the pony world that runs off magic. (Think Flim and Flam's cider squeezer or Tank's helicopter) He later decided he wanted a different talent, so he changed his name to Ace Shamus and founded the freelance police. He created the Desoto, a magic-powered speed wagon.

Maximum Damage got his cutie mark for random destruction and violence. He followed Ace in becoming freelance police so he could continue his streak of mayhem.

I had it for longer, but I first started really using it for Shadowhunters, and 90% of the fandom was here, before it largely moved to Twitter, and now has been struggling to move back, so has sort of become a bit homeless 🥺

Anything neat and tailored. I think it looks fly AF, but I have neither the body type nor the patience for it.

Stars Hallow is really good shout I’ve seen other people use. Also any fictional TV show that basically takes place in a home, only. I’d be all over that! haha

What is your favorite piece of art? 

I’ve been obsessed with ‘Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening’ ever since I was about 10 years old.

Do you have a water bottle? what does it look like?

I recently broke my water bottle so I’ve got a temporary replacement one and I hate it. It’s boring and too big and not the right shape. Grr.

I’ve got three. A tote bag for when I bring lunch Tupperwares into work or otherwise have to transport big things. A large backpack for when I bring my laptop into work or travel. And a tiiiiiiiny backpack (smaller than A5) and the weirdest thing is how much stuff I manage to fit into it! First Aid Kit. Sewing Kit. Wallet. Phone. Portable Phone Charger. Sunglasses. Tissues. Cigarettes. House keys. Pill box. Misc. hair things for when other people need them.

This was my birthday gift to me that I finally finished. An incredibly indulgent My Little Pony AU (Gen 4)

Dream:

Earth pony. Considered the most common and sturdiest type of pony, often depicted as unremarkable.

pony name is Peace Parley (meaning "betting on peace.")

Cutie mark is an ouroboros, representing unity and his special talent, diplomacy.

Despite his talent, he's not actually good at politics. He's good at making people join together for a common cause, but there seems to be a distinct difference between mediating a fight between two quarreling farmers and rubbing elbows with the nobles of Equestria.

Elected of the mayor of an incredibly small village, the kind where everyone knows everyone. Was known for being fair and willing to listen to both sides. Twilight Sparkle's ascension caused a shift in where ponies and business lived, and in the process, major gentrification spread to Ponyville, hitting Dream's little village along the way. Initially, he tried his best to be kind and welcoming, but became furious as his hometown was overtaken and many ponies displaced or forced out, and resorted to hostility and destruction in a desperate attempt to ward the outside forces away.

As things become worse for him and rumors among the nobles start to spread, his cutie mark begins to be given more negative associations: rather than the harmony he strives for, others see it as a endless cycle of discord that he brings upon others. Ostracization is the best of what he receives.

Dream, back when they did manhunts, used to tie up his tail so as not to give the hunters the option to pull on it. Its habit now.

Has lost faith in destiny and harmony, but desperately wants to find a reason to believe again.

Punz:

Bat pony. A history of stigma has left them preferring their own communities. Considered nocturnal, but they can choose their sleep schedule just like any pony.

pony name is Whittlewhistle (a reference to his talent and to the sound he can make if he's flying fast enough)

Cutie mark a bejeweled knife. Special talent is whittling and/or woodworking.

learned to whittle with a stolen knife and a broken chair leg as a child, and would sell his creations for coin, which would then be used to feed his little brother. Is very proud of himself for how well he's provided for the both of him.

Has come to dislike abstract sculptures, but finds they sell well among the nobles of Canterlot and charges immense amounts for them.

Is still in contact with the batpony community of Luna Bay, but has left for the big city to take on more clients. They pay well, but he's increasingly bitter about how different species are treated among the supposedly accepting ponies of Equestria, and fights the urge to stab people every single day.

Is a slightly above average flier, with the potential to be better, if he cared enough to focus on it. Excellent at dive-bombs.

Doesn't have faith in destiny or harmony, and certainly not in other ponies, but he has faith in Dream.

Sam:

Sphinx, technically. He's a hybrid, but his mother is a Sphinx, so that's what he considers himself. His name is Sammy.

Sphinx and other felines hail from Abyssinia, a region far, far south of Equestria. Sphinx in particular are known to be rigid, fierce, and masters of word games.

Sam's mother fell in love with someone outside her station rather than with the match picked out for her. The love ended in heartbreak, and left her heavily pregnant. Not wanting to face her family after campaigning so hard to be allowed to choose her partner, she went north to Equestria.

Sam grew up without a lot of his culture, surrounded by ponies rather than cats. Their family and homeland are a difficult subject for his mother, so he finds himself lost, longing for purpose and connection. He has no cutie mark, and the concept of magical destiny is both bewildering and something coveted.

Grew up being stared at, told he looked strange and weird and exotic. He has gone the route of treating these comments as if they are normal and fine, but the stares make him uncomfortable.

He is an average flier, and often uses his wings to glide rather than take off. His tail rattles when he wiggles it.

Is easily led into believing the worst of Dream from the ponies around him, but Punz's brutal honesty and cutting takes have shaken a lot of Sam's initial ideas.

Chapter 7: Scottish Factory

Notes:

Okay, I don't know if I need to tag this but just a heads up that there is some animal cruelty in this chapter (portrayed in the wrong). If you can't handle that please skip to the second header (I'm still new to this website forgive me).

Christmas 1928 

Proteus took Duncan to a factory in Kilmarnock, Scotland. This was where he used to work before operating on the Skarloey Railway. Proteus shifted himself back into a humanoid.

“Do you remember this place?” peeped Proteus. His voice was a soothing whisper.

Duncan slammed his forehead in awe. “Why, yes!” he replied. “This is the Caledonia Works! Me old home!”

William wagged his tail. Sango giggled. Patrick caught his tongue stuck to an icicle. 

Proteus led Duncan to the inside of the factory. The place was damp, dimly lit and bleak. Two 0-4-0WT/military working dog hybrids were inside - it was a prebuilt Duncan with his unnamed twin. The dogs had wheels fixed on their tall, muscular legs.

Duncan and his twin were industrial engines serving under the RAF; they were German shepherd/Irish wolfhound mixes. Thus, it explained why he was so tedious to work with: he was not a purebred nor a passenger train. 

An engineer caught the train-dogs attacking each other. They lunged, batted, bit, and pawed at each other's throats. The abusive engineer spanked them with a crowbar. “You mangy mutts!” he yelled. “You never do anythin’ richt!” The dogs were left with wounds and scars.

Proteus comfortingly put his hand on present Duncan’s shoulder. The grumpy engine wasn’t typically emotional, but he couldn’t help breaking down in tears.

“It hurts, doesn’t it?” sulked Proteus.

“A-am not crying! I just got a speck in me own eye!” he lied.

“It’s okay,” shushed Proteus. “Let it all out.”

Sango, William, and Patrick were sobbing too. “Oh mister Proteus!” Sango meowed. “I know Duncan’s gwumpy, but nobody deserves to be treated like that! It’s so sad!”

Proteus shone his light on Sango. “How about we take him to a better Christmas, shall we?” The magic lamp engine wiped the magic cat’s tears away.

Skarloey Railway - 1958

Proteus took Duncan to the first time he was sent to the Island of Sodor. He never fit in, for the railway was too tame, and the narrow-gauge engines too polite. There was Skarloey the Shiba Inu, Sir Handel the Great Dane, Rheneas the Pomeranian, Rusty the pony, and Peter Sam the collie. All tourist friendly, people-pleasing purebreds.

Nancy, a little girl who volunteered on the Skarloey Railway, had minor cynophobia. She was the guard’s daughter. She had to be introduced to the enginamals first before beginning to volunteer. Nancy was bitten by a dog on her hand in the past.

“Nancy,” called the guard. “Sweetie, come meet your new friend." She saw Duncan approaching her with a muzzle on his mouth and was very scared.

Duncan barked and bared his teeth. He shook the muzzle off, almost trampled the girl, and licked her face. A conductor yanked the German shepherd train by his scruff. “Woah boy!”

Nancy almost cried.

“Aw, it’s okay Nancy,” said the conductor. “He won’t bite.”

The girl petted the scraggly dog’s chest. He was so fluffy! Nancy learnt to cope with her fear. Soon she and Duncan would become good friends.

Over the years, Nancy shared her family’s holiday traditions with the narrow-gauge engines. She made paper crowns and popcorn strings. She decorated Christmas trees and attended Mass. The narrow-gauge engines were most delighted. And as she grew up, so did they in a way - rebuilt with their recognizable faces that the people all came to know and love.

SNW drabbles

angst is a friend I know well

La’an looked up from her tricorder, her eyes wide. “Lt kirk! Back away from there. NOW!” she yelled.

Sam kirks head reared up and he jerked back. But it was too late. A small, mewling call started emanating from the bushes. La’an didn’t know much about animals. But even she could recognize a terrified baby calling for its mother.

Everyone froze. There was an awful silence. And then a crash. A deafening roar split the air as the furious mother tore out of the undergrowth. Straight for Una.

La’an didn’t think. She just shoved una out of the way as the creature leapt. She tried to stay loose as it slammed into her chest, tilting her body away and drawing her phaser in the same motion. They crashed into the hard dirt and rolled once. La’an ended flat on her back, a snarling monster on top of her.

The giant cat-like creatures claws tore into la’ans chest with a howl. La’an had just enough time to thrust her arm up in front of her throat before massive jaws clamped down. She bit back a scream and her legs kicked spasmodically. She couldn’t breathe through the fire in her chest. Either the claws were tearing into her or the weight of the beast prevented her from drawing breath. Or both.

La’an dimly thought she heard someone shouting for emergency beam out as she gritted her teeth and forced her phaser up. She thrust it into the side of the animals head as it gnawed, trying to get to its prize-la’ans throat. She fired. Repeatedly. Shouts and phaser fire from the rest of the away team finally forced the creature to wail, before launching itself away. And off la’an.

La’an lay stunned, trying to breathe. She coughed and wetness covered her face. She tried to move. She had to help- but then una was there, leaning over her. Her friends face was so filled with concern that for a moment, la’an worried the animal might have mauled una too. But that didn’t make any sense.

Then una was kneeling beside her, pressing into la’ans chest. La’an arched with a groan and tried to bat una away. But it was impossible. Instead, she looked up into unas anxious face.

“Youre okay la’an,” una reassured her quickly, leaning even harder onto la’ans chest.

La’an tried to nod, but couldn’t seem to manage it. She was amazed by how blue unas eyes appeared when she was worried. And her hair, which was up in an elaborate pony tail due to the away mission, fell over one of unas shoulders. It looked so soft, la’an wanted to reach up and touch it.

La’an shifted a hand, trying and failing to lift it towards una. Her alarmed friend leaned further into la’ans field of vision and those blue eyes captured her again. “Just hold on, la’an!” unas command voice ordered her.

La’an couldn’t decide if she wanted to smile or shiver. That voice. Instead, she opened her mouth and breathed out what really mattered. “Hey, ch-chie-“

La’an blinked, trying to focus. But for some reason, nothing was working. She coughed and more warmth spread across her lips. She needed to…to-

Una felt painic strike her heart as la’ans eyes rolled back in her head. She pushed even more desperately onto la’ans chest where the blood was running out of her like a sieve. She needed to stop the bleeding. She needed la’an to be able to finish saying her name. She needed-

Una materialized in sick bay, la’an already in the surgical bay. She couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief as doctor Mbenga and nurse chapel strode forward. Mbenga was already scanning la’an with a look of focused determination. He didn’t seem phased by all the blood or unas barely contained panic.
