Do you have an "alternate model for personality disorders" post for HPD? If not, would you be able to make one? I'm really glad to have a resource like this since I've been questioning a few PDs, and HPD is one that's been on my radar for a while!
the alternate models come from the DSM, and it doesn't include HPD - it would be diagnosed as PD-TS (Trait Specified) in this model.
if i had to guess at a HPD alternate model:
like all alternate model PDs, it would include impairments in identity, self-direction, empathy & intimacy.
HPD's examples might look like:
identity: unclear boundaries between self & others, unstable self-image & self-esteem, inability to regulate emotions
self-direction: incoherent short & long-term goals, unstable internal standards of social behaviour
empathy: difficulties understanding others' experiences, and their effects on others
intimacy: unstable connection (and desire for) with others, unbalanced mutuality in connections
in the Five Factor Model part, HPD might also be described as being high in Negative Affectivity (e.g. mood instability & intensity, insecurity, etc.) and Disinhibition (e.g. impulsivity, risk taking, etc.)
you could also check out the ICD-11's personality disorder diagnosis (just one disorder with various traits)

Hey Derin, can I ask you a question or two about publishing? (If no, close your eyes for the next bit and click near where you remember the delete button was.)
I'm writing something with the dream of publishing it one day and I'm considering all avenues at this stage. What led you to publishing serially online? What are the pros of your experience doing that?
Asking you because I was looking over your site earlier today and thinking about how comfortable a place the internet feels - less of a big step than traditional publishing, or even putting out a whole story at once for self-publishing.
I've never pursued trad publishing and have no plans to ever do so, it was immediately obvious that it wasn't for me, so I can't give you like, comparisons. I only even got into indie publishing because my readers were demanding ebooks and paperbacks so I just shrugged and got them made. Sometimes I get asked trad vs. indie publishing questions that I do not have the experience to answer.
This question, though, I can answer. I didn't sit down and go "how should I publish these? Online, or through a trad publisher, or what?" I approached web serial writing directly as a career without considering publishing my writing as books at all; that was never on the radar until the readers wanted them. And the reason I started writing a web serial was simple -- it was a hobby that suited my lifestyle.
I'd written serial fiction before; fanfiction, some r/hfy stuff, just whatever I felt like, and I had a serious problem experienced by many casual writers -- I tended not to finish stuff. The stuff that had never made it to the web was even worse; I had so many novels in progress on my hard drive that I'd gotten to the end of the first act of, before moving onto a new idea. I needed something to do with my time (I'd moved back to my hometown to spend time with my dying grandfather and was unemployed) and posting a web serial with a strict schedule and a patreon seemed like the best way to force myself to actually finish my stories. If a handful of people were giving me a couple of buck a month, I wouldn't be able to just drift off to something else; I'd have to finish the story.
And it worked. I got a new job and wrote Curse Words on my off weeks, then that job ended and my Patreon was paying my new mortgage and suddenly this was just kind of my job now. And then enough people were asking for ebooks and paperbacks that I had to figure out how to make those happen. And this is kind of my life now I guess.
In terms of pros I would say:
Low barrier to entry/small steps of progression: You can just start publishing on a website for free whenever you want. You can make your own website for free and publish on that (I did). It takes five minutes or less to learn how to do and you don't need to buy anything. Your time commitment is mostly Writing The Story, which is presumably what you want to be spending your time on anyway. If you do it for 2 months and decide you hate it? You can stop. No harm, no foul.
No boss: You're beholden to your patrons and nobody else. You can write whatever the fuck you want, wherever the fuck you want, however often you want. The only deadline is the schedule that you yourself set, and you can set it to suit your lifestyle.
Payment model: The patreon/ko-fi sponsorship model is vastly superior, in my opinion, to making money via book sales. There's too many factors involved to really say if you make more or less money on Patreon, but what it has is predictability. Patrons come and go, but slowly. I can predict my monthly income from my supporters to within a hundred dollars or so. This is a massive advantage when you have bills to pay. Book sales surge unpredictably, and while you can bank on things like advances if you go the trad publishing route, these are few and far between.
Time: There are minimal delays in web serial publishing. No waiting months or years at a time for your book to chew through the machinery of a publisher, no long delays as your agent works or contracts are negotiated. Indie publishing is faster but still has far more delays than web serial publishing; most notably, you have to write the entire book first, often with little idea of how well it's going to perform. I don't do well with waiting periods or having to coordinate timing with others, so web serial publishing works best for me.
Marketability: Web serials have a far smaller audience than books, but they're also easier to market to that audience. For one thing, they're usually free, and it's a lot easier to convince someone to try a free story instead of buying one. For another, their one-chapter-at-a-time nature feels like less of a commitment and less intimidating to some people, even though they are traditionally much longer than books tend to be. Also, their chapter-by-chapter nature allows speculation and jokes and fanart and stuff to be spread while the story is still going, which is great marketing, especially when readers end up talking about it far longer than they would talk about a book (because they're reading it chapter-by-chapter for far longer).
But the biggest advantage in marketability is what I call 'rolling weight enthusiasm'.
When you're pushing a cart or something, it takes a lot of effort to get started, but once you're cruising at a consistent speed, you can rely on momentum to do half the work for you. You can build more and more speed with the same effort, because a rolling weight is maintaining that momentum. Writing a web serial is a lot like that; the consistent release schedule means that if you can get people invested, it's much easier to keep them invested, because they're waiting a very short period of time (a few days to a week, depending on your release schedule) to get more of the story. If you're releasing books, there might be more than a year between releases; you can keep a dedicated audience interested for that long, but it's much harder to hold onto the casual readers. There are so, so many book series that I've only read half of because at some point a new book was released and I didn't notice. If you write and publish books, you have to do a big part of the marketing all over again to let people know that the next one is out. Web serials don't have this problem. When's the next chapter out? soon enough that the previous chapter is still fresh in your mind. soon enough that you probably don't have time to finish the fanart this one made you think of.
Immediate feedback: Another great thing about web serials is that you can watch the audience reaction in real time. Not only that but, unlike with a book that people read all at once, you get very detailed feedback specific to each chapter. I don't mean people telling you about the story; reader suggestions and 'constructive criticism' is almost universally useless and can generally be thrown out. If you trust somebody's writing and editing skills enough to take feedback from them, you should ask that person directly; random readers are unlikely to be experts and unlikely to have accurate advice.
Instead, watch them discuss it amongst themselves. What did they get right away, and what are they confused about? what did they react most strongly to; is the dominant emotional reaction to the various characters vaguely in line with what you intended? Check the theories; how well are they predicting future events? (If everyone is guessing the Big Twist, then you need to put more effort into selling it so that it's not a let down; the less surprising a twist is, the better the writing has to be to pull it off. But if nobody is guessing the Big Twist, then you have insufficiently foreshadowed it. You're looking for a very high population of readers being accurate about the information they're expected to have gleaned, and a small population being accurate about twists and stuff, and you want that small population to grow as they get closer to the twist.) Checking these reactions can give you a better idea of what you need to emphasise, clarify, or foreshadow in the text.

Can I request Lilia for your analysis?? I'm very curious what his would be about, but only if you want to and if you have time. 💕🙏💚
Lilia Vanrouge: A Psychological Analysis
Disclaimer: Although this post is written by a professional psychologist, it is not intended to serve as a formal diagnosis. Rather, it is a character analysis of Lilia Vanrouge, created out of personal interest and passion for world-building. In psychological practice, accurate assessment should never be based solely on external observation.
Lilia Vanrouge serves as the Vice Housewarden of Diasomnia at Night Raven College, where he oversees Malleus Draconia under the housewarden. He is described as youthful in appearance but exceptionally wise and Lilia’s personality is portrayed as easygoing, friendly, and playful: he teases students by hiding upside-down or joking with them. At the same time, his words carry experience: he often gives advice to others and speaks with the tone of someone who has lived much longer than he looks. Lilia smoothly combines the roles of mentor and trickster - he will gently joke around one moment and then switch to a stern, no-nonsense attitude the next, as illustrated when he rebukes Leona Kingscholar during the Interdorm Spelldrive Tournament. Overall, he functions narratively as a wise adviser and paternal figure, providing guidance and support to the Diasomnia students (especially Silver and Sebek) while also lightening the mood with humor.
Personality Analysis
When viewed through established personality frameworks, Lilia displays a distinctive blend of traits. By the Big Five (Five-Factor) model, he would score high on Extraversion (sociable, energetic) and Agreeableness (kind, cooperative). For example, he is almost always cheerful and outgoing with classmates - he enjoys social banter, often greets people warmly, and even calls students “dear” - reflecting sociability and friendly cooperation. His care for others suggests high agreeableness: Lilia genuinely supports and nurtures those around him (e.g. raising Silver and teaching Sebek), and he is generally considerate. He also appears high in Openness to Experience: he has a creative and playful imagination and he encourages new experiences (as when he coaxed Malleus out of Briar Valley to attend Night Raven College). His Conscientiousness seems high as well: Lilia was a decorated royal guard who earned medals and the queen’s trust through disciplined duty and he dutifully cares for those he’s responsible for. Finally, Lilia shows low Neuroticism (emotional stability): he rarely panics or broods publicly; even under stress he remains calm and constructive. For instance, when Silver runs into a crisis as a child, Lilia finds him and nurses him gently back to health rather than displaying anxiety. In sum, Lilia would likely score high on the positive Big Five traits (extraversion, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness) and low on neuroticism.
Most people who apply the MBTI system to Lilia guess ENTP or ENFP because he is witty, energetic, and values creative interaction. His behavior fits the archetype of the extroverted intuitive type: he loves engaging dialogue, cracks jokes to make points, and often drives events with clever problem-solving. He alternates between lightheartedness and sudden insight, suggesting the “quick-thinking trickster” persona often associated with ENTP. A Jungian perspective adds nuance: Lilia embodies the Trickster and Mentor archetypes. On one hand, he plays the role of trickster/fool – using humor and mischief to connect with others (e.g. pranking Sebek) and to diffuse tense situations. On the other hand, he frequently takes on the wise old man or father figure archetype: he provides guidance, protection, and wisdom to Silver and Sebek. Indeed, Lilia literally becomes a father to Silver and a guardian to Malleus, which echoes the archetypal caregiver. In this way, he balances the childlike joy of the trickster with the profound insight of a mentor, combining Jungian archetypes to enrich his character.
Coping Mechanisms and Behavior
Lilia’s behavior under stress suggests adaptive coping. The psychological literature distinguishes active (problem-focused) coping from avoidant (emotion-focused) coping, and evidence from canon suggests Lilia usually opts for active, problem-solving strategies. For example, when Silver becomes distraught upon learning Lilia is not his biological father, Silver runs away crying. Lilia actively seeks him out and comforts him: he finds Silver in the rain, brings him home, and nurses him back to health, never leaving his side. This is a classic example of confronting the problem: recognizing Silver’s emotional need and directly addressing it through care and support (an emotion-focused but still engaged coping style). Lilia does not punish or ignore Silver’s feelings; instead he shows empathy and resolves the issue.
Moreover, Lilia frequently uses humor as a coping strategy. In Freudian terms, humor is a recognized defense mechanism that helps decrease or combat the negative emotions associated with a situation by making it funny. Lilia’s penchant for jokes and pranks can defuse tension and bring levity. This suggests he may be using humor to cope with stress or to make difficult conversations easier. Importantly, Lilia’s humor is not cruel; even his teasing is gentle, which aligns with adaptive use of humor to strengthen social bonds rather than to belittle.
His behavior in conflict situations also points to disciplined coping. As a former royal guard who “repeatedly threw himself to the flames of war”, Lilia would have learned to confront danger directly. In the school context, when discipline is needed, he does not hesitate to be strict (like Leona’s exemple mentioned before). This indicates that, under challenge, he can switch from playful to authoritative, enforcing rules with sternness. In other words, he adapts his coping style to the situation: playful most of the time, but firm when needed.
There is little evidence that Lilia resorts to maladaptive or avoidant coping (like withdrawing or lashing out). Except for a recent storyline hint (Book 7) that he plans to step away from his duties, Lilia generally stays engaged with those who depend on him. Even when struggling internally (for instance, possibly grappling with his own age and mortality), he tends to channel those feelings into caring for others and preparing them for the future. Overall, Lilia appears to manage stress through a combination of emotion-focused coping (comforting and humor) and problem-focused coping (taking action to help others). He rarely shows signs of panic or despair, suggesting he has effective coping mechanisms and a resilient outlook.
Background Influences
Lilia’s psychology is deeply shaped by his unique background. First and foremost, he is a fae (fairy) of Briar Valley, which explains his extraordinary longevity and this long lifespan means Lilia likely has a very different perspective on time and relationships than mortal students. In Twisted Wonderland lore, some bat fae even face social prejudice (or nocturnal faes in general), which might have given Lilia a sense of resilience in facing bias, which explains a bit more why he was so ruthless during war. Overall, Lilia’s fae origin likely contributes to his calm, patient demeanor; think about us, maturing as we grow older… that’s the same case as Lilia.
Equally important is his military past. Psychologically, wartime service can instill a strong sense of duty and self-control (traits Lilia clearly exhibits) but it can also leave emotional scars (though Lilia does not openly show trauma). His ability to remain composed and focused likely stems from years of facing life-or-death situations. For example, his calm under pressure (helping Silver) and willingness to jump into the fray (military bravery) are consistent with someone who learned to cope with extreme stress. Freudian theory might say his superego was heavily shaped by Queen Maleanor’s values: his loyalty and courage indicate a strong internal moral code. At the same time, having “earned the queen’s trust” suggests he was respected by authority, perhaps reinforcing his respect for rules and hierarchy. In short, Lilia’s veteran status likely contributes to his gravitas and selflessness: he is not a carefree prankster but someone who has paid his dues for the sake of others.
Finally, Lilia’s paternal and mentor roles profoundly influence his interpersonal style. The canon explicitly describes how he adopted Silver as a child and raised him like a son. Silver grows up believing Lilia is his father until the truth emerges, and when Silver learns he is adopted, Lilia comforts him and nursery sickness away, demonstrating loving care. This father-son bond transforms Silver’s concept of family: Silver ultimately “considers himself Lilia’s son regardless of blood”. Thus, Lilia’s role as a real parent figure to Silver has likely made him highly empathetic and protective of children (even those not his by blood). Similarly, Lilia trained Sebek Zigvolt from a young age and served as a guardian to Malleus. In the story, Lilia even entrusts the teenage Malleus to babysit baby Silver, showing that Lilia confides responsibility to those he trusts. Both Sebek and Malleus regard Lilia with great respect: Sebek calls him “Master Lilia” and becomes polite and deferential around him, while Malleus views Lilia as a supportive figure who brought him out of isolation. Altogether, these roles suggest that Lilia’s identity is intertwined with caring for others. He values family (chosen or adopted) and duty to others above his own comfort. Psychologically, being the caregiver to a Silver and to Malleus (a prince/dragon) likely reinforces in Lilia a stable, secure attachment orientation: he invests emotionally in these bonds and finds purpose in sustaining them.
Lilia’s relationship with Malleus is more complex. In one sense, Malleus is the superior (Lilia is vice to Malleus’s dorm warden), but Lilia served as Malleus’s only companion from before hatching. Because Lilia safeguarded Malleus’s egg and interacted with him as an almost paternal surrogate, Malleus grew extremely attached. Canon notes that Malleus is “driven by his fear of losing Lilia, the person closest to him”, underscoring their deep bond. Socially, Lilia treats Malleus with gentle deference and understanding, respecting Malleus’s position while also caring for his emotional needs. The dynamic is one of mutual respect: Lilia acts as a mentor/confidant to Malleus, and Malleus clearly values Lilia’s guidance and friendship.
In terms of attachment style, Lilia himself appears to have a secure style: he forms strong, stable bonds (with Silver and Malleus), does not cling anxiously, and can give space when needed. For instance, he raised Silver to adulthood and permitted Silver’s independence, and he respects Malleus’s authority. Lilia does not seem to fear intimacy or reject closeness; on the contrary, he deeply embraces these relationships (as seen when he plans for Silver’s and Malleus’s futures). Nor does he display an avoidant or dismissive attitude toward others - he actively engages with people. One might even say Lilia exhibits a mature, generative style of relating: he focuses on guiding the next generation (Silver, Sebek, others) and upholding responsibilities.
Possible Diagnosis (Speculative)
Lilia does not display clear symptoms of any psychological disorder under the DSM-5 (The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition). He is consistently sober-minded and caring, without extreme mood swings, paranoia, or detachment. However, for completeness, one can speculate on traits or mild issues that might arise.
Firstly, given his war history, some might wonder about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Soldiers might exhibit PTSD, yet, Lilia shows no overt signs: he does not brood, flashback, or seem constantly on edge. In fact, he handles stress well and retains empathy. Thus if he had any combat trauma, it seems to have been resolved or sublimated into positive action (consistent with the concept of post-traumatic growth rather than pathology).
Another consideration is adjustment to aging or mortality. Lilia ages very slowly; however, the story says he is losing some magical power with time. His decision (in Book 7) to leave the academy and settle could reflect anxiety about his diminishing abilities and mortality. In human terms, this might look like an adjustment disorder due to career/family transition - but the evidence is purely contextual. He makes this choice logically, thinking it through, rather than acting out impulsively or in panic. In other words, it seems more like a rational life decision than a symptom of mental illness.
Lilia’s personality traits also do not align with major disorder criteria. He is not egocentric or manipulative, so no narcissistic or antisocial features are apparent. He is not suggestible or submissive in unhealthy ways (his commands are respected, but he respects others too). He does not withdraw from social contact outside normal duties, so he is not avoidant or schizoid. If anything, one might label him as having an optimistic or even hyperthymic temperament – he is lively, talkative, and tends to exaggerate positivity (e.g. his upbeat encouragement in dire situations). But hyperthymia is not a DSM disorder, just a temperament.
In summary, Lilia Vanrouge appears psychologically well-adjusted. He has a wide social support network (Silver, Malleus, Sebek, etc.), fulfills meaningful roles, and shows no chronic impairment. If any “condition” were to be hypothesized, it might be a normal-range anxiety about the well-being of his children or a mild grief about leaving them – but these would likely fall well below the threshold of a diagnosable disorder in DSM terms.
Summary of Possible Diagnosis
1. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Reasoning: Lilia is a veteran of multiple wars and has "thrown himself into the flames of war" repeatedly, long-term combat exposure may result in emotional detachment, hyper-vigilance or nightmares, his cheery demeanor could be a coping mechanism masking deeper scars.Note: If he had PTSD it would be mil, well-managed and manifested privately.
2. Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder
Reasoning: As an ancient fae who has lived for centuries, he may experience feelings of detachment from time, identity, or reality.
Notes (a copy paste from a previous post I made):
In my point of view, Lilia’s playfulness and interest in games don’t read as trauma-masking behaviors. They feel more like a genuine celebration of life. He’s not avoidant, but adaptive. While it’s valid to explore potential coping mechanisms, it seems far more accurate to view him as someone who chooses joy, even after all he’s endured. Games, in this light, are just one small way he continues to embrace and engage with a world in flux. Think as someone who only saw pain/war and finally is able to enjoy life however he can.
Regarding the reveal of who Silver is related to, I’d argue that Lilia’s reaction is entirely understandable. Imagine raising a child for 17 years, only to discover he’s connected to someone who once tried to invade your homeland and subjugate your people. It’s not about holding a grudge or being unable to let go of the past: it’s about remembering. About honoring history and what it meant.
If I were to draw a comparison (not equating, but simply illustrating) it’s similar to the deep-seated historical tensions and generational trauma many South Americans, Africans, and Asians carry in relation to European and North American colonial histories. The feelings are rooted in real experiences and memory.
Even if Lilia doesn’t show overt signs of PTSD in canon, the traumas he’s lived through still shape his emotional processing. The absence of symptoms doesn’t erase the depth of what he’s endured.

GEAR 5 LUFFY X MOON GOD FEMALE READER 🌙
THE SUN AND THE MOON
Warning: blood, curse
Luffy was defeated by Kaido, and now Kaido is attacking everyone. The strawhat thinks Luffy has died, as for you .
You were injured, badly injured so bad, you just passed out while luffy asked Law to put them in a better place.
You were with Nami, marco, and tama. "Luffy dead!? Now, way! That's ridiculous!" Nami cried. "When he says he's gonna win, he'll definitely win, at any cost!" She yelled.
Then Nami began to cry, "So stop lying, you disgusting snake! Luffy, I know you can hear me! Please don't make (Y/N) cry!" She yelled. "Keep your words as always!"
Luffy lay on the ground, and his heart started pumping, playing music. So, as you, your heart starts playing like shamisen.
Zunesha heard the sound of bumping and the shamisen. "momonosake," he said, "what? Zunesha!?" Momonosake asked.
Then the drum started playing in music. "Momonosake! I can hear them!" Zunesha yelled.
"It been a while..." he said, luffy hand start twitch. Momonosake looks confused, "you can hear them? It's been a while? Zunesha, what are you talking about!?" Momonosake yelled.
Luffy body started steaming. "I can hear the drum of liberation. I'm hearing them for the first time in 800 years! I'm positive that they are here!" he yelled.
"wh-who's here?!"
"Joyboy, luna... has returned!" He screams. Luffy hair turned white, and his body started jumping. Red and white lighting flying everywhere.
Luffy lifts his body. "What happened... to me?" he said, standing up and trying not to fall. " How come I can still stand up?" He asks, then Luffy starts smiling.
" I lost the battle," he said, smiling. "But this is getting fun!" He laughed, falling to the ground. As for your body, it started moving a little.
"Joyboy! Luna!" Momonosake yelled, "luffy and (Y/N) is joyboy, lunala!" Yamato yelled. "Is that what zunesha said!?" Yamato question.
Luffy laughed, rolling on the ground, and couldn't stop laughing even more. "This is getting fun!" He said, his clothes turned to white, his eyes turned pink.
In the performance floor. Everyone was shocked to see on above, "What? Is that straw hat man?" Said hyogoro, then he smiled.
"Straw hat!?" Said marco, he turned to Nami and tama, who were hugging each other and you too. "Hey! He's still alive-yoi!" He yelled.
"Luffy's not dead?!" Nami yelled, crying. "Big bro's still alive?!" Cried tama, "That's great!" They said crying. "(Y/N)! Luffy is alive!" Nami cried, hugging your body.
Luffy laughed, jumping.
In the mary geoise, pangaea castle, the hall of power. The five elders were in the meeting.
"Sacrificing one of our best agents... only to enrage kaido is like putting the cart before the horse," said warcury.
"But what if it's better than the alternative? It's better to eliminate a risk factor." Said Saturn.
"The world government... has always tried to get hold of the gum-gum fruit and the shape-shape fruit, but it never came into our hands. For 800 years!" Said nusjuro.
"It's as if... the fruit is evading us... That not entirely implausible," said Mars. "Zoan type devil fruit have a will of their own." Said Peter.
" Furthermore, that devil fruits bears the name of a God. Another name for the gum-gum fruit and shape-shape fruit is..." said warcury.
"The Zoan, human-human fruit, mythical type, model... 'nika' 'lunala'. They say that his body had the exact properties of rubber, as for lunala. She can shapeshift and illusion. They fought as they fancied and made people smile." Said Peter.
"The warriors of liberation and the moon queen, also known as... nika, the sun God! Lunala, the moon, God!" Peter yelled.
"Awakening it is said to give its user's rubber body and the shape shifting body even more strength... and freedom. I heard that it's the most ridiculous power... in the world, " said Peter.
Luffy jumps in the sky, jumping on the ground, clapping his hand. "I can do everything I wanted to do! I think I can fight a little bit more!" Said luffy.
Jumping around, dancing around. "My heartbeat sounds funny!". Luffy jumps high, "This is our peak! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" Luffy laughed.
"This is it! Gear five!" Luffy yelled, letting out all lighting go nuts around. And you, you opened your eyes and it full of red. 'What going on?' You question.
'How come I can't feel anything pain at all? What is this?' You keep questioning yourself. Then you hear drums, 'what that sounds? It sounded familiar? Why can't I remember?'.
Luffy jumped around, clapping his hand. Smiling, bouncing, dancing. Being all goofy all that stuff and started laughing.
As for the bottom, everybody was shocked to see full lightning. 'What going on? What happened to luffy?' You question, luffy grab his tumb and stared blowing on it.
His arm became bigger and bigger. "Hey, what going on?!" Someone yelled, "someone's color of the Supreme king?!" They yelled.
"Where is it coming from?!" Someone yelled two, kaido looked above and saw someone outside above. "What's that on the roof?" Kaido said. He looked a hole on above, then a huge hand burst out and grabbed kaido.
"L-luffy?" You said with a lower voice, luffy pulled kaido up, Law and kid was surprised. "Straw hat?!" Said kid, "is that luffy?!" Chopper scream.
Luffy pulled kaido way up, kaido scream. Then luffy pulled his pruple rope on his waist and became muscles. "Muscles! Muscles! Muscles!" Luffy yelled, luffy flew to kaido face.
And punching him, luffy jumps back and grabs kaido body. "Here we go!" Luffy yelled, luffy spin kaido body around, then slamming his body on the ground.
Luffy keeps slamming kaido body on the ground. You, on the other hand, are still injured. You can see Nami, tama, and marco taking, "l-luffy," you said.
Nami turned around to see you, talking. "(Y/N)! Aaaaaa!! I thought you were dead!!!!" Nami cried as she hugged you. "Luffy, I got to help Luffy," you said, trying to stand up.
"(Y/N), you have rest!" Marco yelled, and then you finally opened your eyes. Nami screamed, Marco and tama looked at you and was shocked.
Your eyes turn to red, "(Y/N)?" Tama asked, then you stand up. Your skin turns white, and pruple lightning comes everywhere on your body, and a pruple smoke sorm around you.
"(Y/N)?!" Nami yelled, your body turned to blue, then you transformed into a gaint shadows monster.
Like this:

"AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!" Nami and tama scream. Then you fly up, everybody looks at you in horror, "What is that!?" Someone yelled. You look up to see a hole lend to outside.
"Luffy's," you said, you go through the hole and make bigger holes. You looked to kaido turn black.
Like this

And luffy laughed when luffy looked at you.
You flew over to luffy, and you turned to your human form. And luffy was shocked to see you alive. He put his hand on your cheeks, "(Y/N)!!!" Luffy laughed, and he hugged you tight.
He started kissing you all over your face, and you kissed him on the cheek. "So you're alive as well?" Said kaido, you look at him and transform your monster form.
You and luffy V.S kaido, let see who wins.

Writing Notes: Markers for the "Big Five"
The 5-Factor Model of Personality
Lewis R. Goldberg has done the most systematic research on the Big Five using single-word trait adjectives.
According to Goldberg, key adjective markers of the Big Five are as follows:

Agreeableness: sympathetic, kind, warm, understanding, sincere versus unsympathetic, unkind, harsh, cruel
Conscientiousness: organized, neat, orderly, practical, prompt, meticulous versus disorganized, disorderly, careless, sloppy, impractical
Emotional stability: calm, relaxed, stable versus moody, anxious, insecure
Intellect or imagination: creative, imaginative, intellectual versus uncreative, unimaginative, unintellectual
Norman’s Markers for the Big Five
I. Extraversion or Surgency
Talkative – silent
Sociable – reclusive
Adventurous – cautious
Open – secretive
II. Agreeableness
Good-natured – irritable

Snowed In by @germericangirl
(E, 15k) Harry wants to fly back home to London after visiting his family for the holidays but a snow storm causes his flight to get cancelled. What happens if the hotel only has one room left for him and the beautiful blue eyed stranger?
✨ Running Home To You by sincewewereeighteen
(E, 18k) Harry can’t help but look at his iTunes library. What he did not expect was to see his name there: Harry Styles, and a half-played album. He has to ask.
“What’s that you were listening to?”
“Oh, it’s this guy, uh- Harry Styles?”
“Hm. Is he any good? I’ve heard a lot about him.”
“He’s proper famous, isn’t he?” Louis smirks. “He’s good, believe it or not. Many people don’t give credit to teenage girls, but I don’t regret listening to him.”
“D’you have a favorite?”
“You’ve probably heard Sign of the Times, because everyone’s heard this song…” Louis checks his screen. “Don’t know. This is the best one musically speaking. But there’s something about this one,” he points at his screen, “From the Dining Table. It’s just so sad. Makes one wonder what this guy went through.”
“That tough?”
“Sad.” Louis replies. “Anyways. Don’t be prejudiced and give the pop star a listen. He’s really talented.”
OR: the one in which Harry and Louis take the same plane, and even though they're both sort of nomads, they end up finding a home in each other.

If Tomorrow Never Comes (We Had Last Night) by @fallinglikethis @all-these-larrythings
(M, 15k) Louis accepts the call without bothering to look at the caller ID. Only Zayn would be a big enough asshole to call him at two in the morning. This fucking better be important.
“This fucking better be important,” Louis greets.
On the other end of the line comes a soft giggle. “Li, you don’t usually curse. I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but I like it.”
Yeah, that’s not Zayn. Louis sighs, his anger melting into resignation when he realizes that it’s some poor bastard probably drunk dialing his ex or something. “Sorry, mate. Think you’ve got the wrong number."
Based on this Tumblr prompt: "Accidentally called your number while drunk asking for a ride and you actually came au"

(E, 27k) Louis Tomlinson is a twenty-eight year old succesful actor living in New York. Harry Styles is a twenty year old up and coming model and coincidentally also the one who turns Louis’ world completely upside down.
or, Louis is Zachary Quinto and Harry is Miles McMillan. Falling in love was always in the cards for them.

(E, 12k) Five times Louis and Harry get walked in on at the worst time, and one time Louis makes sure they don't.
✨ i'm a captain on a jealous sea by @thedevilinmybrain
(E, 15k) It’s not that Louis doesn’t like Nick. He is, if he’s being honest, kind of indifferent. Louis gets that Nick is just doing his job most of the time, being loud and prying, not having boundaries. But it’s just a little too much for Louis’ taste. Louis, who has learned over the years, when to be loud and when to know that coy is the game. But, it doesn’t matter really. He’s not required to like everyone, doesn’t have to make nice with them outside of having a camera shoved in his face. He can let Nick be Nick and it shouldn’t affect Louis at all.
Except.
What Louis actually has a problem with is the way Nick Grimshaw looks at Harry.
✨ some things fade (some never do) by @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed
(T, 25k) Matching tattoos. He’d never thought he’d be the type for tattoos to begin with, let alone matching or magical ones, but once Harry had put the idea in his mind it had never quite managed to disappear. And it had made sense. With their relationship a long distance one, this was simply another way of feeling close to one another. Of knowing where the other was, how they felt. It had made so much sense.
Back then.
*
Three years after their break up, Harry calls.
In a sky full of stars, be my Northern lights by @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed
(T, 13k) It's one of those nights there's nothing on the telly that Louis absently scrolls through Tinder. After swiping left on a bunch of profiles he comes face to face with a picture that stops him in his tracks. The picture is..almost sweet. It’s a boy with brown curly hair, wearing a very low cut yellow blouse, paired with a black jacket. He’s got a smile on his face and his tongue sticking out, but it’s not in any way lewd or suggestive. He just looks like he’s having a good time, and something about the innocence of it has him swiping right rather than left.
He’s barely checked the other pictures on the boy's profile before Tinder confirms that he’s got a match. The shots are so different from the pictures Louis is used to on Tinder - half naked boys who are smoldering at the camera - that he can’t help but smile.
It quickly turns into a frown when he opens up the message he’s just received.
Harry: Hello!
Harry: Thank you for swiping right
Harry: I have a proposition for you
Treat You Like A Gentleman by @justanothershadeofblue
(E, 12k) 5 times that Harry Styles was unsatisfied by his dates, and one time Louis Tomlinson helped him find what he had been missing.
Sweet as Honey by TeamLouis
(E, 21k) Louis has always been shit at cooking. When he discovers Sweet as Honey on Instagram, owned by chef Harry Styles, he intends to mock him by recreating his recipes with his awful skills, posting photos on his own Instagram account, Nailed It. It's all fun until Harry asks to meet him.
✨💎 To Have Touched the Sun by @ireallysawanangel
(E, 12k) Louis has been taking suppressants ever since he first presented as an omega, and because of that, he has his heats dwindled down to just once a year. When he suddenly goes into heat in the middle of a supermarket only two months after just having one, he immediately knows something is wrong. It takes the act of a very kind stranger in that supermarket to change Louis' life forever.
Losing Focus Every Time You Speak by @causticsunshine
(E, 19k) “Harry,” he starts, his tone cautious, “what’s this I’m seeing?”
A roll of Harry’s shoulder and the thing catches the light again. “Hm? I dunno what you’re talking about, Lou,” he replies, voice suddenly strained.
Oh. So that’s how it’s going to be.
“This,” Louis reiterates as clearly as he can—by abruptly spreading Harry’s cheeks as much as he can through the confines of his knickers, in turn causing Harry to grunt and Louis to reveal a, fuck, a small bubblegum-pink gem in the shape of a heart, rimmed by a sliver of silver, “you remember now?”
“Oh.” All faux innocence. Louis removes his hands as Harry slowly pulls himself back up, a little red-faced and with a chunky throw in hand. “That? It’s nothing.”
“Nothing?” Louis repeats, trying for gentle surprise.
Louis returns from an impromptu work trip and enjoys some long-awaited alone time with his favorite person. Lace knickers and a princess plug might have a role to play in things.
✨💎 Eyes on the Horizon by @uhoh-but-yeah-alright
(E, 12k) Freshly dumped, recently fired, and about to turn 40, Harry's friends insist on taking him skydiving to cheer him up. His younger and extremely fit instructor Louis makes him even more nervous than the idea of jumping out of a plane, but both may be exactly what he needs to turn his life around.
Waste the Night by @wicked-archer

Blinded by the Colors by @fallinglikethis
(M, 20k) After a heated fight with Harry, a maudlin, inebriated Louis Tomlinson questions his presence in his boyfriend's life. In fact, maybe all of One Direction would be better off if Louis had never been put in the band to begin with.

Harry lives in a world where, at the age of 18, everyone gets paired up with a life mate, a perfectly compatible partner. When Harry gets Liam Payne as his soul mate, he thinks nothing of it. It must be true love, right?
But then he meets Louis Tomlinson, a 19 year old who is already partnered up. Harry starts to fall for Louis, and it is not unrequited, but it is against the law.
Harry had always known he’d end up breaking some rules, he just hadn’t quite imagined the magnitude of them.

(NR, 18k) Graham Norton appeared on the screen introducing his guests and out of nowhere, everything in Louis’ world was turned upside down.
Louis gasped as he intently took in the man on the screen, smiling and waving from his seat beside Sir Ian McKellen.
“Oh my God,” Louis said before it all sank in as to what it meant. “Holy fucking shit!”
“Louis William, you watch your mouth,” Jay said. “What has got into you?”
Feeling like a madman, his palms to his cheeks, Louis couldn’t help the tears of surprise, relief, and fear as he turned to his mum. “What colour are his eyes? What do you call that colour?”
“Louis, are you telling me that the man on the screen, Harry Styles, is your soulmate?”
Or the one where the world is in black and white until you meet your soulmate, but Harry is world famous and Louis is...well...not.

(E, 22k) Omega Harry has a rare genetic disorder where he has no sense of smell. This has lots of odd effects such as him not being able to smell his own scent but most brutally, not being able to scent the way his inner omega desires. It also leaves him as a sort of odd-ball to the community, leaving him becoming touch starved as no one wants the omega who can’t scent. Until finally, he meets the right alpha.

(NR, 26k) When Louis gets invited along to Anne's wedding, Harry is prepared to let people think whatever they want about their relationship. That's what Louis said -- let people think whatever they want. That changes when Louis sees his ex, who turns out to be Anne's future husband's son. Now, Louis wants to prove that he's an omega that an alpha could want, and Harry wants to get through this weekend without letting his best friend figure out he's in love with him.
We Don't Need No Piece of Paper (From the City Clerk) by @2tiedships2
(M, 26k) Harry sat on his bed and stared at the pile of luggage by the door. This was really happening. He was being shipped off to America to get married.

(E, 25k) Louis works for a phone-sex operating company, collecting credit card information and transferring calls to different operators. On a particularly busy night, everyone is booked up, and one caller has been patiently waiting for more than a few minutes. In a split second decision –one he’s probably going to regret– Louis picks up the call himself.

(Gimme a Solution and) Watch Me Run With It by @lululawrence
(NR, 21k) This second, this minute, this hour, this day... hell, this week the trend was for Harry to feel overwhelmed. He was having a hard time not drowning in all of the responsibilities he had heaped upon himself and it had exhausted him. Beyond that, really. He had gotten to the point where he didn't even remember why he used to be so focused on getting back on stage every night.
Fine. Maybe this trend had been going on for even longer than a week. It might have even been months.
Harry is getting dangerously close to his breaking point, and that is when things start to change, starting with a favorite childhood sweet a member of the touring crew leaves for him in his dressing room.

(E, 29k) Harry's had a crush on his stepfather's friend for six years. A small crush. A tiny crush.

It’s not the ideal position for an Omega surely, but beggars can’t be choosers he supposes. He tilts his head to the side. “And they would be ok with an Omega filling that role?”
Janet scans her eyes over the job description before nodding. “Yes, actually it says here Omegas are preferred but not required.”
Harry sighs.
“When do I start?”

The whole thing is a bit ridiculous, but Louis Tomlinson has always dreamed of finding his mate. He's got two unsuccessful Sheffield Proving Days under his belt and decides to go for the much more competitive one in Manchester. Cue changing work schedules, missing each other for the first time in weeks, panicking because “i don’t even know his name, why didn’t i ask for his name”, dramatic waiting on platforms and finally bumping into each other again when they least expect it
✨💎 Tell Me Your Secrets, Teach Me Your Ways by @insightfulinsomniac
(E, 23k) The day after turning eighteen, Omega Prince Harry is expected to meet with eligible Alpha suitors. It's a day he's been looking forward to all his life, desperate for romance and yearning to find his mate.
What he doesn't expect to find, however, is that he's one half of a historic soul-tied union: a phenomenon last seen over a century ago. Luckily, his future mate is everything he ever dreamed of finding.
But... that's just the problem. Louis makes Harry feel things he's never felt before and has no way to describe. He knows that once they're married, he and Louis are meant to mate, but what that actually entails is a mystery…
Who better to ask about these feelings than his mate-to-be?

Another Mouthwashing Theory
Okay so this is just my personal perspective but I feel like Anya was going through the five stages of grief during the game denial, and the months represent that too. There’s five stages and they were in the Tulpar for five months after the crash. First is denial, it was during the bday party, anger wasn’t aimed at anyone but the lack of safety she had and slightly aimed at Curly/Jimmy for indirectly/directly disregarding her safety. Bargaining was her getting Curly to realize how unsafe she was by hiding the gun, as well as pushing for Jimmy to see what he did wasn’t something he can easily brush aside because its not a big factor to him. Depression, Anya having to be stuck in a crash with her assaulter, being belittled, crying because she realizes once again how little her life mattered because of the mouthwash and with how Jimmy’s actions caused her to become isolated. Then finally acceptance, where she as the video says, kills herself in acceptance that she’s not beyond repair and isn’t defined by the worst moment in her life caused by Jimmy. As well as she accepts Curly for being imperfect even when he was inadvertently enabling Jimmy along with the others, she isn’t angry at him or Swansea but just disappointed the circumstances came out that way because Jimmy lacks the common courtesy of taking responsibility. So she accepts her own decision to escape even if the method is painful…
Thats my theory anyway.
Mouthwashing
Has so many deep meanings and I wish it wasn’t watered down to ships on Tiktok or anywhere else.
What’s that? I’m repeating things. You’re right lets go with something else, for example.
Anya and Curly both are afraid of Jimmy for different reasons. physical and verbal abuse, Jimmy can’t take on Curly. He knows that, but he can hurt Anya so he does that, Anya is smart and is able to be verbal and vocal with things but Jimmy steals her voice and autonomy. So she’s forced into self isolation with her grievances, after the crash, Jimmy proceeds to verbally abuse Anya with ease meanwhile Curly is just now discovering the physical abuse Anya went through but in a different way. Goes with the metaphorical tone of how they parallel one another, Anya experiences verbal and physical abuse. Curly experiences verbal at first because Jimmy cannot fight him/ doesn’t see a reason too, until he is given access to such power. Once Curly is down for the count he proceeds to physically abuse him three times, he doesn’t even consider to be gentle with Curly when giving him pills. Anya witnesses the first time and is given flashbacks, not cuz of Curly but because of Jimmy and Jimmy knows that.
He just proceeds to act coy and easily talks bad about his so called friend. Jimmy whether people like it or not is smart and is willing to lie and set up a whole delusional mindset just to he seen a hero because the incapacitated Curly told him too 💀💀💀
Anyway my theory and rant about Mouthwashing
also to add onto this, Daisuke may not do anything but he would definitely be eager to help Anya more if she had told him and probably be hard on Swansea about the mouthwash if he knew Swansea knew too, cuz thats an authority figure to him. Just sayin, he’s not some teen he’s a young adult too, but he represents the youth in the Capitalist aspect of the game.
While Anya represents the Minority who gets abused by the working class aka Jimmy. Swansea is the older class who should’ve been retired but company greed forces him to stay, Daisuke is the youth, easily manipulated and eager to impress the older class and follows under the working class.
Curly represents the model aspects of Capitalism, the guy whose perfect, blonde, blue eyes. He’s got it good, perfect opportunity, but he also struggles too because of the expectations to keep the peace in a system that is bound to be broken because someone (Jimmy) gets a taste of power.
Pony Express is Capitalism, you never see it, its metaphoric yet they’ve caused a lot of harm to others without even physically being there. no safety locks, one self defense weapon that they can’t even use, two locks for the cockpit and medical. A broken vent and unsafe environments, ( Swansea writes a note to avoid those while working with Daisuke.) Then the sleep conditions and psychological issues, five hours of sleep? Psychological issue one, the psych evals only being on paper and nothing more? Issue 2, pain killers and sleep medication? Issue 3, the cryopods only having four instead of five? Issue 4
not even escape pods but cryopods. for 20 years, incase the ship malfunctions, mind you Jimmy took them off course to crash into the meteor, so no one will be able to track them unless they search for 20 years.
but knowing Pony Express this means less money to spend as they fired all of them illegally. (You can’t fire people while they’re doing the job given to them, its not only legal but can lead to a whole lawsuit)

How would you do a Miraculous/BNHA crossover? Specifically, Quirks in Paris.
Series: Miraculous Ladybug AU Criteria: BNHA quirks in Paris AU title (optional): L'aube
This is early after the awakening of quirks, when technology was more to the modern standards and the laws were just starting to get put into place. Figure second or third generation, when it's not as widespread and seen as dangerous. There is laws restricting their use, and no active training programs in controlling and strengthening them.
Hawkmoth's quirk grants him the ability to control the minds of those his summoned butterfly lands on, linking into their quirk factors to awaken their quirks and do his bidding. His goal is to awaken a quirk that will bring his wife back to healthy life. Marinette has such a healing quirk, but it is weak, so Hawkmoth begins his campaign to train her up. She is trained by the mysterious Tikki (early support tech) to use a yo-yo and mask to battle Hawkmoth's chaos.
Adrian's quirk is a five point contact quirk that destroys whatever it touches. He wears gloves to prevent it from hurting people/things, and has a private technician that helps him don a mask and clawed gloves that retract if he needs to use the quirk. (Possibly lost to a stranger from Japan stating he 'wants to help' at the end of the story) Still a model, his skin releases a chemical that keeps it smooth and supple.
The cops are willing to work with the vigilantes Ladybug and Chat Noir, but only behind the scenes, in public they have to decry them and appear to pursue them. Especially when the mayor gets on his big anti-quirk kick due to Hawkmoth's activities. (This does not help Chloe at all when her quirk that paralyzes people when she sticks them with stingers from her fingers sticks around)
Everyone is class with Marinette and Adrien are targeted one at a time, and have their quirks awaken whether they want them or not. I think I would likely use something based off their Miraculous forms more than their akumatized versions.
Emilie Agreste was one of Hawkmoth's first awakenings, but quirk exhaustion overtook her rapidly.

Theories of personality aim to explain how and why individuals differ in their patterns of behavior, thinking, and emotions. There are several major theories that attempt to describe and categorize personality traits and development.
1. Psychoanalytic Theory (Sigmund Freud)
Core Idea: Freud’s theory of personality revolves around the interaction of the id (basic instincts), ego (rational thought), and superego (moral standards). He believed that personality develops through early childhood experiences and unconscious conflicts.
Structure of Personality: Freud proposed that the unconscious mind plays a key role in shaping behavior and personality, with unresolved internal conflicts influencing behavior.
Defense Mechanisms: Freud also suggested that individuals use defense mechanisms, such as repression or denial, to cope with anxiety and protect their self-image.
Stages of Development: The theory includes psychosexual stages (oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital stages), with conflicts at each stage influencing adult personality.
2. Humanistic Theory (Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow)
Core Idea: Humanistic theories emphasize personal growth, free will, and self-actualization. These theories view humans as inherently good, striving to reach their full potential.
Self-Actualization: Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs posits that individuals move through a series of needs, from basic physiological needs to self-actualization, where they fulfill their potential and experience personal growth.
Carl Rogers’ Person-Centered Theory: Rogers introduced the concept of the self-concept, which is how people perceive themselves. He believed that for individuals to achieve their full potential, they need an environment that provides genuineness, acceptance, and empathy.
Unconditional Positive Regard: Rogers argued that receiving unconditional love and acceptance is key to developing a healthy personality and self-esteem.
3. Trait Theory (Gordon Allport, Raymond Cattell, Hans Eysenck)
Core Idea: Trait theories suggest that personality is made up of broad, enduring traits or characteristics that determine behavior.
Gordon Allport: He identified three types of traits: cardinal traits (dominant traits that define an individual), central traits (general traits that form the basic foundation of personality), and secondary traits (more specific traits that appear in certain situations).
Raymond Cattell: Cattell used factor analysis to identify 16 personality factors, suggesting that a combination of these factors defines a person’s unique personality.
Hans Eysenck: Eysenck's model focused on three dimensions of personality: extraversion-introversion, neuroticism-stability, and psychoticism (related to aggressiveness and antisocial tendencies).
4. The Big Five (Five-Factor Model)
Core Idea: The Big Five personality traits are the most widely accepted framework for understanding personality. These traits are thought to exist along a continuum, and people fall at different points within these five dimensions:
Openness to Experience: Creative, curious, open to new ideas vs. traditional, routine-oriented.
Conscientiousness: Organized, responsible, goal-oriented vs. careless, impulsive.
Extraversion: Sociable, outgoing vs. introverted, reserved.
Agreeableness: Cooperative, compassionate vs. antagonistic, competitive.
Neuroticism: Emotionally unstable, anxious vs. emotionally stable, calm.
This model is considered to capture the basic structure of personality across different cultures and contexts.
5. Social-Cognitive Theory (Albert Bandura)
Core Idea: Personality is shaped by the interaction between personal factors (cognitive abilities, beliefs, emotions), behavior, and environment. This is known as reciprocal determinism.
Self-Efficacy: Bandura introduced the concept of self-efficacy, which is the belief in one's ability to succeed in specific situations. High self-efficacy leads to more persistence and confidence in challenging tasks, while low self-efficacy can lead to avoidance of difficult situations.
Observational Learning: Bandura also emphasized the role of modeling and observational learning in personality development, arguing that people learn behaviors and emotional responses by observing others.
6. Behaviorist Theory (B.F. Skinner)
Core Idea: Behaviorists argue that personality is the result of learned behaviors, shaped by rewards and punishments in an individual's environment.
Operant Conditioning: Skinner focused on operant conditioning, where behavior is influenced by reinforcement (positive or negative) or punishment. Over time, individuals develop consistent behavioral patterns based on their experiences with rewards and consequences.
Environmental Determinism: Behaviorists view personality as a product of the external environment rather than internal traits or unconscious forces.
7. Biological and Evolutionary Theories (Hans Eysenck, David Buss)
Core Idea: Biological theories emphasize that personality traits have genetic underpinnings and that human behavior is influenced by evolutionary processes.
Eysenck’s Biological Basis of Personality: Eysenck proposed that personality traits like extraversion and neuroticism are linked to biological differences in brain arousal and functioning.
Evolutionary Psychology: David Buss and other evolutionary psychologists argue that personality traits evolved to solve problems related to survival and reproduction. For instance, traits like aggression or cooperation may have developed as adaptive strategies in human evolutionary history.
8. Cognitive-Behavioral Theory
Core Idea: This theory integrates elements from both cognitive and behavioral psychology. It suggests that cognitive processes (thought patterns, beliefs) play a crucial role in determining behavior and, therefore, personality.
Aaron Beck’s Cognitive Theory: Beck emphasized how automatic thoughts and cognitive distortions (like overgeneralization or catastrophic thinking) shape personality and emotional responses.
Cognitive Restructuring: In cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), individuals learn to identify and change negative thought patterns, which in turn influences their behavior and personality over time.
9. Narrative Identity Theory
Core Idea: Narrative identity theory suggests that individuals construct a life story or narrative to make sense of their experiences and define their identity. This narrative evolves over time, reflecting personal growth, values, and social influences.
Dan McAdams: McAdams proposed that personal identity is shaped by the stories we tell about ourselves. People seek coherence and meaning in their life stories, which reflect their personality traits, goals, and values.
This approach emphasizes that personality is not just a set of static traits but an evolving narrative shaped by personal choices and experiences.
10. Existential and Phenomenological Theories
Core Idea: These theories focus on individual experience, freedom, and the search for meaning. Existential psychologists like Rollo May and Viktor Frankl argue that personality is shaped by how individuals confront fundamental existential questions, such as the meaning of life, freedom, and death.
Frankl's Logotherapy: Viktor Frankl emphasized the importance of finding meaning in life, even in suffering, as the central drive in human behavior. He believed that the quest for meaning shapes personality and behavior.
Authenticity and Choice: Existential psychology stresses that individuals are responsible for their own choices, and living authentically means confronting existential realities and making choices in alignment with one’s values.
Theories of personality offer different perspectives on the factors that shape human behavior and individual differences. From Freud’s focus on unconscious drives to the modern trait theories like the Big Five, these approaches explore the intricate dynamics of behavior, thought, and emotion that constitute personality.

A cybernetic theory of autism: Autism as a consequence of low trait plasticity
"The Big Five personality traits were originally thought to be orthogonal and the highest level of the hierarchy of traits, but they have proved to show a regular pattern of correlations that reveals two higher-order factors, or metatraits, above them.
Stability represents the shared variance of Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and low Neuroticism, and Plasticity represents the shared variance of Extraversion and Openness/Intellect.
CB5T asserts that these two dimensions correspond to the two most fundamental requirements for a cybernetic system to survive in a changing or unpredictable environment.
When faced with unpredictability, goal-directed adaptive systems must have (1) sufficient stability to resist disruption and maintain effective goal pursuit, and (2) sufficient plasticity to adapt their functioning to new conditions.
The unpredicted or unknown is unique as a class of stimuli because it is innately both a threat and an incentive reward, and Stability reflects the necessity of dealing with the threat posed by the unknown, whereas Plasticity reflects the necessity of dealing with its promise.
Although Stability and Plasticity may seem opposed semantically, they are in fact complementary and in dynamic tension with each other.
Research using multiple informants for optimal measurement of the Big Five indicates that the metatraits are uncorrelated in the population.
One must be sufficiently stable in unpredictable situations to be capable of exploration and adaptation, and one must be capable of adapting to the unknown to remain stable over time.
“The opposite of stability is not plasticity but instability, and the opposite of plasticity is not stability but rigidity”. (…)
The first premise is that Plasticity exists early in life (i.e., not only in adults) as a trait reflecting inter-individual variability in the tendency to explore and generate new adaptations.
The second premise is that the development of almost all psychological competencies depends on cybernetic processes directed toward exploration of the unknown.
If these two premises are true, then an extremely low tendency to explore the unknown (corresponding with low Plasticity) could alter the development of a wide range of competencies in a predictable way. (…)
One theory of ASD that emphasizes the role of diminished motivation for social interactions is social motivation theory (SMT).
This promising approach inverts the direction of causality in well-known cognitive models of ASD (e.g., the Theory of Mind model; Baron-Cohen et al., 1985), which have traditionally argued that social motivation deficits stem from more fundamental deficits in social cognition.
Instead, SMT argues that a radically decreased level of social motivation and attention during sensitive stages of development will deprive a child of important social inputs that are necessary for developing social cognitive abilities. (…)
In contrast to SMT, however, positing a deficit in Plasticity does not necessitate that people with ASD are entirely disinterested in other people or incapable of affiliative feelings (which are associated with Agreeableness as well as Extraversion in the Big Five).
Rather, they are deterred by the unpredictability that lies in the process of engaging with people to form relationships and build a set of social adaptations, because they do not find the unpredictability sufficiently rewarding to counterbalance its simultaneously threatening quality.
This may explain robust evidence that seems to contradict SMT: ASD individuals often suffer from loneliness and almost universally report the desire for friends."

Clearest images yet of 380,000-year-old universe reveal cosmic infancy
New research by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) collaboration has produced the clearest images yet of the universe's infancy—the earliest cosmic time yet accessible to humans. Measuring light that traveled for more than 13 billion years to reach a telescope high in the Chilean Andes, the new images reveal the universe when it was about 380,000 years old—the equivalent of hours-old baby pictures of a now middle-aged cosmos.
"We are seeing the first steps towards making the earliest stars and galaxies," says Suzanne Staggs, director of ACT and Henry deWolf Smyth Professor of Physics at Princeton University. "And we're not just seeing light and dark, we're seeing the polarization of light in high resolution. That is a defining factor distinguishing ACT from Planck and other, earlier telescopes."
The new pictures of this background radiation, known as the cosmic microwave background (CMB), add higher definition to those observed more than a decade ago by the Planck space-based telescope. "ACT has five times the resolution of Planck, and greater sensitivity," says Sigurd Naess, a researcher at the University of Oslo and a lead author of one of several papers related to the project. "This means the faint polarization signal is now directly visible."
The polarization image reveals the detailed movement of the hydrogen and helium gas in the cosmic infancy. "Before, we got to see where things were, and now we also see how they're moving," says Staggs. "Like using tides to infer the presence of the moon, the movement tracked by the light's polarization tells us how strong the pull of gravity was in different parts of space."
The new results confirm a simple model of the universe and have ruled out a majority of competing alternatives, says the research team. The work has not yet gone through peer review, but the researchers will present their results at the American Physical Society annual conference on March 19.
Measuring the universe's infancy
In the first several hundred thousand years after the Big Bang, the primordial plasma that filled the universe was so hot that light couldn't propagate freely, making the universe effectively opaque. The CMB represents the first stage in the universe's history that we can see—effectively, the universe's baby picture.
The new images give a remarkably clear view of very, very subtle variations in the density and velocity of the gases that filled the young universe. "There are other contemporary telescopes measuring the polarization with low noise, but none of them cover as much of the sky as ACT does," says Naess.
What look like hazy clouds in the light's intensity are more and less dense regions in a sea of hydrogen and helium—hills and valleys that extend millions of light years across. Over the following millions to billions of years, gravity pulled the denser regions of gas inwards to build stars and galaxies.
These detailed images of the newborn universe are helping scientists to answer longstanding questions about the universe's origins. "By looking back to that time when things were much simpler, we can piece together the story of how our universe evolved to the rich and complex place we find ourselves in today, " says Jo Dunkley, the Joseph Henry Professor of Physics and Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University and the ACT analysis leader.
"We've measured more precisely that the observable universe extends almost 50 billion light years in all directions from us, and contains as much mass as 1,900 'zetta-suns," or almost 2 trillion trillion suns," says Erminia Calabrese, professor of astrophysics at the University of Cardiff and a lead author on one of the new papers. Of those 1,900 zetta-suns, the mass of normal matter—the kind we can see and measure—makes up only 100. Another 500 zetta-Suns of mass are mysterious dark matter, and the equivalent of 1,300 are the dominating vacuum energy (also called dark energy) of empty space.
Tiny neutrino particles make up at most four zetta-suns of mass. Of the normal matter, three-quarters of the mass is hydrogen, and a quarter helium.
"Almost all of the helium in the universe was produced in the first three minutes of cosmic time," says Thibaut Louis, CNRS researcher at IJCLab, University Paris-Saclay and one of the lead authors of the new papers. "Our new measurements of its abundance agree very well with theoretical models and with observations in galaxies."
The elements that we humans are made of—mostly carbon, with oxygen and nitrogen and iron and even traces of gold—were formed later in stars and are just a sprinkling on top of this cosmic stew.
ACT's new measurements have also refined estimates for the age of the universe and how fast it is growing today. The infall of matter in the early universe sent out sound waves through space, like ripples spreading out in circles on a pond.
"A younger universe would have had to expand more quickly to reach its current size, and the images we measure would appear to be reaching us from closer by," explains Mark Devlin, the Reese W. Flower Professor of Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania, and ACT's deputy director. "The apparent extent of ripples in the images would be larger in that case, in the same way that a ruler held closer to your face appears larger than one held at arm's length."
The new data confirm that the age of the universe is 13.8 billion years, with an uncertainty of only 0.1%.
The Hubble tension
In recent years, cosmologists have disagreed about the Hubble constant, the rate at which space is expanding today. Measurements derived from the CMB have consistently shown an expansion rate of 67 to 68 kilometers per second per Megaparsec, while measurements derived from the movement of nearby galaxies indicate a Hubble constant as high as 73 to 74 km/s/Mpc. Using their newly released data, the ACT team has measured the Hubble constant with increased precision. Their measurement matches previous CMB-derived estimates.
"We took this entirely new measurement of the sky, giving us an independent check of the cosmological model, and our results show that it holds up," says Adriaan Duivenvoorden, a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics and lead author of one of the new papers.
A major goal of the work was to investigate alternative models for the universe that would explain the disagreement. "We wanted to see if we could find a cosmological model that matched our data and also predicted a faster expansion rate," says Colin Hill, an assistant professor at Columbia University and one of the lead authors of the new papers. Alternates include changing the way neutrinos and the invisible dark matter behave, adding a period of accelerated expansion in the early universe or changing fundamental constants of nature.
"We have used the CMB as a detector for new particles or fields in the early universe, exploring previously uncharted terrain," says Hill. "The ACT data show no evidence of such new signals. With our new results, the standard model of cosmology has passed an extraordinarily precise test."
"It was slightly surprising to us that we didn't find even partial evidence to support the higher value," says Staggs. "There were a few areas where we thought we might see evidence for explanations of the tension, and they just weren't there in the data."
A 5-year exposure
The background radiation measured by ACT is extremely faint. "To make this new measurement, we needed a 5-year exposure with a sensitive telescope tuned to see millimeter-wavelength light," says Devlin. "Our colleagues at the National Institute of Standards and Technology provided detectors with cutting-edge sensitivity, and the National Science Foundation supported ACT's mission for more than two decades to get us here."
In surveying the sky, ACT has also seen light emitted from other objects in space. "We can see right back through cosmic history," says Dunkley, "from our own Milky Way, out past distant galaxies hosting vast black holes, and huge galaxy clusters, all the way to that time of infancy."
ACT completed its observations in 2022, and attention is now turning to the new, more capable, Simons Observatory at the same location in Chile. The new ACT data are shared publicly on NASA's LAMBDA archive.

I have mixed feelings about the red white and royal blue movie (red white and royal bluevie, if you will).
let me preface this by saying two things: one, you are entitled to your opinion and so am I so civil discourse is welcome, but hate speech is not, and two, I am a firm believer that book vs movie argument is pointless as long as you enjoy the media, so take the following with a grain of salt. I enjoyed the movie a lot, and if you don’t want to see anything negative, you can scroll past this, but these were things that caught my eye. that all being said, here are my thoughts.
first things first: the change from Raphael Luna to Miguel Ramos felt like it detracted from the story. in the rwrb book, the Alex looks up to Luna and considers him an ally and a role model in the political field, seeing him as a goal to shoot for. this makes his betrayal (working on richards campaign) hurt a lot worse, and it makes his subsequent redemption (him bringing up dirt on richards that not only effected him as a queer man but as a politician) feel a like a big triumph and a loose end that has been tied up. Alex’s relationship with Ramos is already a different kind of relationship, since Alex wants to be a politician, not a journalist, and their connection feels a lot less secure since their only tie is that they’re friends who have hooked up, so when he starts to publish aggressive and harmful stories toward Alex, it feels less like a betrayal and more like pettiness over being rejected. this is only reinforced by the fact that he isn’t given any redemption, and his loose end remains untied and without closure. Lunas story is, in my opinion, just as much a part of the main plot as Alex and Henry’s, because he reflects the struggles of older queer generations fighting the good fight behind enemy lines and the thankless battle that a lot of younger people take for granted. without Luna, President Claremont’s win feels more arbitrary, and a lot of the stress that motivates Alex and his character development as a person and as a politician is flattened.
another thing id love to address is the so called “side characters”- pez, bea, nora, and june. starting with pez, who is meant to be Henry’s best friend and lifeline: he got barely five minutes of screen time, and it felt like he was sidelined as unimportant and a supporting cast member instead of an actually important member of the group. Bea as well was sidelined, and kind of pushed into the role pez had in the books. by ignoring Beas history with substance abuse and her moniker of “powder Princess”, it takes away from her depth as a character and the struggles her and her family have gone through, not even mentioning the fact that their mother isn’t even in the movie. the same thing is true with the lack of Alex’s parents divorce; the trauma from that event led to a lot of important character development and growth, as well as some pretty important plot points (such as the first phone call). Nora and June I can do in one fell swoop: they should not have been combined into one character. they both played different and significant roles in Alex’s life, June as a steadying factor and a shoulder to lean on, and Nora as an experienced confidant that unwinds Alex and allows him to live a little. not only did the combination of their characters take away a healthy polyamorous relationship with pez, but it took away a big piece of Alex’s support system and the factors to a lot of his character growth.
a final thing that I’ll mention in this post is specifically about Alex- sorry, I can’t help it, I love him so much 😭 I just feel like the decision not to focus more on his work life and his personal life was poorly made. the movie did a phenomenal job of outlining Henry’s stressors and backstory and of course I’m so glad that he was given the closure and attention he needed (though I’m a little pissy that his mother wasn’t involved), but without mentioning Alex’s admittedly shitty work-life-balance and his stress as a newly discovered queer biracial politician and the stress from his parents (apparently nonexistent) divorce, the relationship feels toxic and a little one-sided. im not here to throw any pity parties for any characters, but all of the previously mentioned factors, among others, play into Alex’s decision to go to law school and start taking his time with his life, and the fact that that wasn’t even mentioned put Henry and Alex into a position where Alex seems unreasonable and insensitive while Henry is the only one with a good, albeit traumatized head on his shoulders.
like I said, these are just my opinions, and obviously I like the show a lot, though maybe more as a romantic comedy than a true adaptation of rwrb, so if you have thoughts to share, I’d love to see them! be kind and gracious and don’t start stupid fights over book accuracy, I don’t care that there were no monogrammed kimonos or that a different song played in the museum ❤️

A Night In Tokyo With Mick Schumacher and A Mercedes 190E Evo II
Driving around Tokyo is daunting. With no centre or suburbs, its road network is huge, spiralling, occasionally latticed and sometimes subterranean. At times, even Mr Roboto in the satnav gives up and shrugs directions your way. Which has happened. Meaning I'm lost while leading Mick Schumacher (behind the wheel of a stunning Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II) through Japan's neon-lined labyrinth. It's a hot, humid evening and Mercedes F1's reserve driver (and son of iconic seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher) is cutting the perfect shape of a 90s boyband member. Where I'm perspiring like a burst pipe, he palms back his blonde curls and looks effortlessly cool in his loose-fitting, oversized Tommy Hilfiger contractual clobber. Sartorially, it couldn't be more of a perfect fit for the car he's driving. Born out of German touring cars, the Evo II is a deeply lustworthy, boxy and bewinged sports saloon. With a revvy, induction-tastic 232bhp four-cylinder engine mated to a dog leg close-ratio five-speed manual, rear-wheel drive and aero appendages that get petrolheads salivating, it's a proper tip one's hat 'if you know, you know' car. Mercedes only built 502 of them (as per DTM's homologation rules) out of some 1.9 million W201 models that it's based on, so they're properly rare beasts. The fact we've got a quadruplet of Evos following Mick makes the situation we're in a bit more mind-blowing. But that's the plan. We wanted to give Mick an evening to remember, to take him away from the repetition and rigmarole of modern media junkets. We don't want to know where he keeps his ketchup, or when the last time he thought of the Roman Empire was. We want to indulge his love for cars.
"I went looking for an Evo II to buy but decided against it… for now," Mick says in his soft, geographically hard to place international accent. "It's a beautiful car and has huge sentimental value to me, the main reason being that my dad had one as a company car when he was a Mercedes junior. He spent a lot of time doing lots of laps on the Nordschleife with Heinz-Harald Frentzen. I remember within a month they had to change the brake pads and things with the engine. So it's an emotionally important car to me." Growing up in Gland, Switzerland, Mick struggles to pinpoint exactly when he got bitten by the road car bug. "Honestly, I don't really know where I got into them. Driving them around the property as a child was a big factor. The first time I had a steering wheel in my hand from a road car was maybe four or five years old, on my dad's lap. I got to drive very nice cars, very soon and very early. I guess it just grew naturally. Especially when I turned 18; then it really turned into an obsession." Raised on a healthy diet of racing, the Fast and Furious franchise and gaming, Mick picked up a penchant for JDM cars by proxy. "I just love how raw and simple they are," he says. "I enjoy playing around with them, changing stuff, tuning them and making them more fun to drive." Knowing this, we head out of Tokyo towards Chiba to meet Japan's most inconspicuous bad boy: Kazuhiko 'Smokey' Nagata. Tobacco and turbo enthusiast Smokey is one of Japan's legendary tuners. He and his company Top Secret have modified every generation of Nissan GT-R, including an R33 Skyline GT-R that managed 0–186mph in 17 seconds at Yatabe test track and 204mph in Tokyo's famous Aqualine tunnel. Like Smokey, Mick is also a GT-R fanboy, with some tucked away in a shed at home, including his R34 drift car.

"I've really got into drifting. As an F1 driver, drifting, or oversteer, is the opposite of what you want to do, but if you control it and have the feel for it, it can really help you. So I took the step of saying 'I want to try it' after the 2019 Race of Champions skill race. I was quite good, finishing second against rally drivers and everything, so I thought, 'Okay, maybe I should try this a bit more,' so I got my own car and started enjoying sideways. I love the sensation of connecting turns and being in a difficult situation, because obviously the car is upset, to then be able to control it. I think that's what's so intriguing. It's a good feeling." Mick's curiosity and JDM love resonates as he wanders around Smokey's GT-R littered shop. Not being able to speak Japanese, Mick uses international hand signals for car nuts to explain various car parts, gets out his phone to show Smokey his cars before stumbling upon Smokey's VR32 GT-R (an R32 with all the mechanics and interior of the R35 transplanted) and trying to find a way to import it into Switzerland. But we've got no time for this, as we've got the legendary Bayshore Route to hit and a car meet to get to. For someone so young, 24-year-old Mick is at a rather quiescent point in his career. Having had a triumphant run in his youth coming second in karting in the World, European and German Junior Championships, then switching to Formula 4 in 2015 and finishing second overall in both the German and Italian F4 championships, before becoming European Formula 3 Champion in 2018 and FIA Formula 2 Champion in 2020, Mick made it to the big leagues and bagged himself a seat in F1 with Haas. It wasn't easy. In 2022 Mick lost his seat after a difficult second season that saw him struggle to match teammate Kevin Magnussen for form. He recorded a best finish of sixth in Austria, one of two points finishes during the season, but it was not enough to save his seat. For 2023, Mick dropped his Ferrari junior ties and linked up with Mercedes (the last team his father raced for in F1), picking up the role of reserve driver.

"Being a reserve driver gives you tremendous insight, especially at Mercedes," Mick says. "I miss driving, I'm not going to lie, but the main thing I've learned since moving from Haas to Mercedes is how the team operates, the tools they have, how they use them and the communication. They're big learning points. It has opened my eyes in a lot of ways and has made it clear why Mercedes is as successful as it is. The worst part is sitting in the garage and seeing everybody drive out and do what you love to do." Part of Mick's remit is to join Mercedes trackside at all F1 race. That's how we're able to blat around Tokyo for a night before he heads to Suzuka to support the team. But time in Merc's state-of-the-art sim back in Brackley is also key. Mick was praised by Mercedes' technical director James Allison for a 2 am shift he did during the British GP weekend, turning the car's "woeful" one-lap pace on Friday into a competitive car and set-up for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to compete with during quali and the race on Sunday. With every mile behind the Evo II's wheel, Mick's smile grows to match the width of its monstrous rear wing, especially when he realizes it shoots flame on the overrun after a 7,600 rpm toll booth roll out. We cross over to Yokohama and swirl down a concrete pillared plughole, arriving in an unsuspecting parking lot that doubles up as the epicentre of cool Japanese car culture in Japan: Daikoku PA. Mick, having never been to a car meet before, has his eyes widened. Even though it's a school night, the place is pumping. Mick walks around curiously, showing his girlfriend, Danish model Laila Hasanovic, Veilside-kitted Mazda RX-7s, how riveted wide arch Liberty Walk bodywork hangs from an R35 GT-R for the ultimate kerbside stance, and the extended provenance from the flood of awesome, rare Mercedes (including the original 190E Evo I, an AMG-clad W124 and a custom Cosworth 2.5 boasting Penta wheels and Brabus brakes) that are all parked honourably in their uniform herringbone bays. As Mick gets under the bonnets and kindly signs carbon airboxes for marginally hysterical owners, I wonder if he's handy with the spanners.

"I wish I was," he says, "but I don't have the time. I'm starting to bring more of my cars over to my place so that I eventually will be able to work on them myself and change things that I want to change. Currently, I am very good at taking things apart… maybe less gifted at putting them back together." But since the meteoric rise of social media and documentaries like Netflix's Drive to Survive, racing drivers' personalities have been mainlined into public consciousness. Nowadays, it appears drivers' human interests need to be put on display like the plastic dishes outside Daikoku's service station restaurant windows. Yet here, tonight, Mick seems completely at home and relaxed. "It's risky because I feel like I'm a very private person. I like my privacy. Sometimes when you get people wanting to know more, they get a bit too snoopy. I feel it should be my choice how much I share, and what I share, not people trying to figure that out for me." In this job you get to sniff out the car nuts from the blaggers, and Mick's passion is palpable. It's refreshing to see, and a welcome break from the headlines and hearsay currently surrounding him given he's caught in a gloopy limbo where F1 politics, money and raw talent are all currently fighting each other to work out where he'll race next.

As I type, Mick's currently linked with an LMDh drive with Alpine in next year's World Endurance Championship, a move Mercedes F1's big boss Toto Wolff is fine with, as Mick is "part of the family" and "will always have a home." Mick's tone becomes more forlorn when talking about the future, obviously having had a tough few years and aching to get back into an F1 car. I wonder if it takes its toll, and how he pushes through in times of uncertainty. "Having the right people around you," he says. "You need to try and be mentally in the right space and try and get the best out of the situation so that you can, whenever it's necessary, be in the position that you can jump in and be ready to go." After an evening with Mick, you can't help but wish him the best of luck. If all else fails, he could always lean into drifting and see where that takes him. Sideways Schuey. Has a good ring to it, doesn't it?

Writing Notes: The Five-Factor Model of Personality
Culture is transmitted to people through language, as well as through social norms which establish acceptable and unacceptable behaviors which are then rewarded or punished (Henrich, 2016; Triandis & Suh, 2002).
With an increased understanding of cultural learning, psychologists have become interested in the role of culture in understanding personality.
The 5 Personality Traits According to this Model
OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE
Refers to a person's imagination, feelings, actions, ideas
LOW score: More likely to be practical, conventional, prefer routine
HIGH score: More likely to be curious, have a wide range of interests, be independent
CONSCIENTIOUSNESS
Competence, self-discipline, thoughtfulness, goal-driven
LOW: Impulsive, careless, disorganized
HIGH: Hardworking, dependable, organized
EXTROVERSION
Sociability, assertiveness, emotional expression
LOW: Quiet, reserved, withdrawn
HIGH: Outgoing, warm, seeks adventure
AGREEABLENESS
Cooperative, trustworthy, good-natured
LOW: Critical, uncooperative, suspicious
HIGH: Helpful, trusting, empathetic
NEUROTICISM
Tendency toward unstable emotions
LOW: Calm, even-tempered, secure
HIGH: Anxious, unhappy, prone to negative emotions
Applicability
The idea that personality can be described and explained by five traits (OCEAN) has important implications, as does the fact that most personality tests were constructed and initially tested in Western countries.
Western ideas about personality may not apply to other cultures (Benet-Martinez & Oishi, 2008).
2 Main Cultural Approaches for Researching Personality
Etic traits - considered universal constructs that are evident across cultures and represent a biological bases of human personality. If the Big Five are universal then they should appear across all cultures (McCrae and Allik, 2002).
Emic traits - constructs unique to each culture and are determined by local customs, thoughts, beliefs, and characteristics. If personality traits are unique to individual cultures then different traits should appear in different cultures.
Using an Etic Framework
Cross cultural research of personality uses an etic framework and researchers must ensure equivalence of the personality test through validation testing.
The instrument must include equivalence in meaning, as well as demonstrate validity and reliability (Matsumoto & Luang, 2013).
Example: The phrase feeling blue is used to describe sadness in Westernized cultures but does not translate to other languages.
Differences in personality across cultures could be due to real cultural differences, but they could also be consequences of poor translations, biased sampling, or differences in response styles across cultures (Schmitt, Allik, McCrae, & Benet-Martínez, 2007).
Personality Test/Measure Used: The NEO-PI
Most of the cross-cultural research on the Five-Factor Model (FFM) and Big Five (OCEAN) has been done using the NEO-PI (and its subsequent revisions; i.e., it is an assessment tool developed to measure the 5 dimensions of personality according to the FFM) which has demonstrated equivalence, reliability and validity across several cross-cultural studies (Costa & McCrae, 1987; McCrae, Costa & Martin, 2005).
Research using the NEO-PI found support for the entire Five-Factor Model in Chinese, Dutch, Italian, Hungarian, German, Australian, South African, Canadian, Finnish, Polish, Portuguese, Israeli, Korean, Japanese, and Filipino samples, in addition to other samples (McCrae, Costa, Del Pilar, Rolland, & Parker, 1998).
NOTE
Personality tests rely on self-report which is susceptible to response bias like socially desirability responding.
To evaluate this possibility, McCrae and colleagues (2005) recruited students from 50 cultural groups and modified the NEO-PI to be in the third person (i.e., he, she, his, her):
The research participants were asked to complete the form on someone else that they knew very well (McCrae et al., 2005).
The same 5 factors emerged in this study.
These results provided empirical support for the FFM and for the use of self-report instruments when conducting cross-cultural personality research.
There was no reason for the students to respond in a desirable way because they were answering questions about someone else.

I realize in this* convoluted series of posts I was so focused on gym leaders and elite four as the sort of core of any games cast that I just casually neglected a bunch of side characters, so I figure it's a good time to go back and rectify some of that, starting with the now topical Kalos team...
*[Kanto] [Johto] [Hoenn] [Sinnoh] [Unova] [Kalos] [Alola] [Galar] [Hisui] [Champs] [Paldea] [Paldea2] [Paldea3] [Teams] [Misc.]
While they are in fact all named after plants, they are also themed around the ABCMX classification system for solar flares.
Aliana's name is actually AKEBI[アケビ] as in akebi[木通] the japanese name of the Akebia quinata, commonly called the chocolate vine, five-leaf chocolate vine or just five-leaf akebia.
Bryony's name in japanese is just BARA[バラ] as in bara[薔薇]: "rose." A bizarre choice for a character with a green motif, and odd for such a minor side character when Roses are so iconic and universally beloved. Kind of feels, like a waste.
Celosia's name was CORREA[コレア] after the genus of flower shrubs that includes things like the common correa(aka native fuchsia), the Salmon Correa i used in the picture above, and the Dusky Bell among others.
Mable is in fact named MOMIJI[モミジ], after momiji[紅葉]: Japanese Maple, which seemed confusing at first, as those are obviously famously red leaved, but it turns out there are some prizes cultivars that can turns range of purples and violets instead, and as an odd result of this there are notorious scams built around the faking of a mythic japanese blue maple mutation. (Although the other flowers aren't perfect matches to their girls' color schemes either so maybe that's a coincidence)
Xerosic's name was originally XEROSICY[クセロシキ] named after Xerosicyos, a genus of plant notable for their round flat leaves, perhaps most notably the Xerosicyos danguyi: the Silver-Dollar Plant.
oh but there's more...
But other than the obvious Flare association, it also ties back into the sun themes evoked by Lysandre being a descendent of AZ/his brother and as a kind of Kalos/France tied to the Parfum Palace/Palace of Versailles, is a parallel to King Louis XIV, le Roi Soleil:"The Sun King".
Also Lysandre's name in Japanese is just straight up Fleurdelis[フラダリ] which is of course extremely silly sounding. But the ⚜️ is itself designed after the Lily flower, and of course so is the Ultimate Weapon and AZ's special Floette.
In this vein I figured I could tackle a handful of other villain teams. A fun if obtuse one is that the extended Team Rocket cast in HGSS are in fact all named after rockets, both space ships and missiles.
Archer was originally APOLLO[アポロ] named after the Apollo Missions carried out by NASA throughout the 60s, utilizing the Saturn V model rockets that would eventually put the first manned crew on the moon with the Apollo 11.
Ariana is ATHENA[アテナ] was named after the Athena series rockets built and launched throughout the 1990s. I get the feeling they just picked it because it had a conveniently complementary name to Apollo.
Petrel is LAMBDA[ラムダ] is named after a family of rockets made in Japan and launched the first Japanese satellite, the Osumi, into space in 1970.
and finally Proton was just LANCE[ランス] and seemingly named after the MGM-52 Lance missiles developed by the US military in the `1970s.
Oddly while Maxie and Archie are named after flowers...
Maxie was MATSUBUSA[マツブサ] after the matsubasa[松房] tree, a type of star anise with a distinctive red starburst shaped flower.
Archie was AOGIRI[アオギリ] the Chinese-parasol tree, which is actually kind of underwhelming plant to have as a namesake, but the actual etymology of the name aogiri[青桐] is "Blue+Pauloniwa" and I assume the association with Blue is really the motivating factor re.
Courtney was KAGARI[カガリ] from kagari[篝] the Japanese word for a metal basket like structure that you put on a pedestal or tripod to put firewood in to burn as like a big torch. It can also refer to a bonfire.
Tabitha is HOMURA[ホムラ] from homura[炎] which is just the word for a flame or a blaze.
Matt is just USHIO[ウシオ] from ushio[潮]: "tide"
and Shelley is IZUMI[イズミ] from izumi[泉]: a "spring" or "fountain" of water.
Galaxy's are all obvious, although in English they renamed Pluto to Charon, Pluto's coorbital moon.
Oh and Cyrus himself being the only person not named after a planet, was named AKAGI[アカギ] after the Bishop Wood tree, akagi[赤木].
Okay so for one it's bonkers that N's real name is NATURAL HARMONIA[ナチュラル・ハルモニア] which, given some context I'm going to say is a reference to Natural Harmonics in music. But let me be real with you: I don't know shit about music theory so I cannot verify that claim, nor was I able to verify if the image I was googling to throw up here even accurately depicts "Natural Harmony" so take this one in particular with a hefty grain of salt...
And with that disclaimer in mind, Ghetsis's name is actually G-Cis HARMONIA[ゲーチス・ハルモニア], G-Cis as in "G-C♯" which is a tritone, and tritone's have the curious nickname of "The Devil's Interval" or diabolus in musica:"The Devil in Music" because of the extreme dissonance the gap in tone makes.
then there's N's foster sisters, Anthea, whose real name is VERBENA[バーベナ], after the flower Verbena, which has a variety of divine and mystical associations in western culture.
and Concordia's name is actually HELENA[ヘレナ] named after the St.Helena Olive, which I take from her epithet as "Goddess of Peace" is meant to reference an olive branch as a symbolic peace offering.
Then there's also Colress, named Achroma[アクロマ] as in "Achromatic", as in Without Color, hence the English name being "Colorless."
And then there's the other sages:
ROOD[ロット] Dutch for "Red"
Bronius was originally SUMRA[スムラ] from the arabic word samra[*] for "brown/tawny/deep yellow." (*I tried to copy paste the arabic text here but for some reason it and the brackets together were really screwing up the formatting...)
GIALLO[ジャロ] like Rood was unchanged, and is just Italian for "Yellow."
Ryoku was shortened from RYOKUSHI[リョクシ] as in ryokushi[緑色]: "green."
Gorm was AZULA[アスラ] From the Spanish Azul:"Blue"
and Zinzolin was named VIO[ヴィオ] from Violet. Technically a few languages all spell it the same, but of note, the "English" name Zinzolin is French for a reddish-violet color
Bafflingly the Seven Sages includes Ghetsis, who of course is not named after a color, so between him and Bronius/Sumra being brown, they do not make a seven color rainbow spectrum. Why no Indigo or Orange? And why a green sage when Ghetsis and N have such strong green color coding? Why don't the sprites for the sages match their color namesakes???
Also the Seven Sages could have been a harmonic scale reference, yet aren't?? despite N and Ghetsis' thing.
It's interesting that Zinzolin is the one sage who comes back with NeoPlasma in BW2, and he is the one named in French... I wonder if he'll make an appearance in Z-A.
Team Skull we did in the Alola captains batch oh wait wtf no I didn't.. Weird, I coudl have sworn iI included Plumeria and Guzma since they were clearly positioned as sort of pseudo captains for Poison and Bug types.
Guzma's name was in fact just GUZMA[グズマ] in Japanese, from the Guzmania genus of Tufted Airplant
and Plumeria's name was PLUMERI[プルメリ] from the plumeria flower, aka frangipani.
But there's still the Aether Foundation, the "surprise" real evil team of the game. Lusimine, Lillie, Gladion, Faba and Wicke.
Lillie's name is basically the same in English and Japanese, LILIE[リーリエ] the German name for the lily, and of course her overall disposition and design are clearly based on a pure white lily.
Gladion's name is GLADIO[グラジオ] it could easily refer directly to the Gladiolus flower, the "sword flower", but I'm assuming it's from Gladiole specifically, as that's the German name for the flower, and the whole of not just Lusamine's family but the Aether staff as well are all named in German.
Lusamine's name is basically the same in Japanese, although it was probably meant to be romanized as LSAMINE[ルザミーネ] because it comes from Balsamine, German name of the Balsam plant,
Faba's name was Sauboh[ザオボー] from Saubohne, German name for the Fava bean, which accounts for his coloration.
Wicke is just WICKE[ビッケ] again the German name for the Vetch plant.
oh and Mohn's name is MOHN[モーン] and it's German for Poppy. Unlike the Poppy in Paldea, whose look is based on the flower in bloom, I'm pretty certain from his build and his hair/hat that Mohn is supposed to look like a Poppy seed, the type you'd harvest milk of the poppy, or poppy's tears from... to make opium...
Also the Ultra Recon Squad, who have a fun theme were, to play into the way they come from a lightless alien world, they're all named after underwater plants or algae. I especially like the algae ones because despite how some alga, like kelp and seaweeds tend to look, they are not in fact plants, and this familiar yet different relationship feels like it fits the themes of the Ultra Beasts.
Dulse is in fact just DULSE[ダルス] a type of algae found in the waters around Ireland and Sctoland
Zossie's name is AMAMO[アマモ] from amamo[甘藻] the Japanese name for Eelgrass(Zostera marina)
Soliera's name is MIRIN[ミリン] which is the Japanese name for the genus Solieria
Phyco's name is SHIONIRA[シオニラ] is from the Japanese name for the Alismatales order of plants comprising a wide range of species, some of which grow near bodies of water, some grow in or above the water, and others still grow entirely underwater.
So obviously Rose is ROSE[ローズ], who I guess msut have seemed too obvious because I totally skipped him before... His brother Peony is a play on the fact that the Rose and Peony are sort of undisputed romantic icons in the west and east respectively, although some of the rose's reputation has bled into the east as well. (also i forgot to put it in the image but the Tudor rose and Galar being England feels obvious even if it didn't really play into the plot or themes of SwSh's story)
Speaking of Peony... His daughter Peonia's name is actually SHAKUYA[シャクヤ] from shakuya[芍薬] the Japanese name for the Chinese peony (Paeonia lactiflora).
Oleana's name was actually just OLIVE[オリーヴ].
Oddly there's not really anyone of note that's actually a member of Team Yell, they don't have a real leader or admins, just Marnie as the object of their support.
I did everyone in Team Star in my first Paldea post, but worth noting is the alias Cassiopeia refers to the constellation, hence team Star, but moreover the individual star squads are each named after a major star within the constellation: Segin, Ruchbah, Tsih, Schedar, and Caph. (Tsih and Navi are two names for the star γ(gamma) Cassiopeiae, just labeled "γ" above.)
And with that we're all brought up to speed with evil teams, until Z-A drops some new ones on us...
