Bisexual Pride Bunny

Bisexuality is romantic and/or sexual attraction towards more than one gender, usually attraction to people of a different and similar gender identity/expression. Attraction to the different genders varies per person and is still valid. Bisexuality is considered an umbrella term, with pansexual, omnisexual, and other identities falling under it. The pink represents attraction to the same sex, blue represents attraction to the opposite sex, and the purple is the overlap of attractions. (Drawing made by me. Bisexuality is only attraction towards men and women.

The “bi” in bisexuality means attraction to more than two genders opposed to being only attracted to two genders. Saying bisexuals are only attracted to men and women ignores the other genders out there and the individual’s sexuality. While some are just attracted to men and women, that doesn’t apply to everyone. I’ve seen people act stubborn and choose not to believe that bisexuality involves other genders. I personally am mainly attracted to men and women but it’s not difficult for me to understand that definitions are flexible. Just because your experience is different from mine, that doesn’t mean its automatically invalid. While it’s important that we educate people, it’s also equally important that we preach acceptance. There is a lot I don’t know, a lot you don’t know, but as long as we’re open, we’ll make strides.

Bisexuality is a phase.

You do not get to tell someone else what their identity is. There are smaller numbers of people where it is a simply a transition for them or a journey in finding their identity, but most bisexual people are not going through a phase. Also for people who are thinking about identifying as bisexual, the community will not judge you if you change your mind. It’s okay if your sexuality changes. What’s not okay is the biphobia this statement presents and at the end of the day, it doesn’t fucking affect you. Someone’s sexuality and gender doesn’t affect your life.

Bisexuals are promiscuous and cheat.

First, there is nothing wrong with having lots of sexual relationships if you are safe. The idea that sex is taboo is annoying and it is simply none of your business if people have it or don’t have it and if they feel sexual attraction. Bisexuals are not more likely to cheat. Sexuality doesn’t affect someone’s likeliness to cheat. There are a lot more myths and I only presented few. Such as the half straight/half gay, you’re not bi if you are in an opposite sex relationship, and that you have to have experiences with other genders to know if you’re bisexual. There’s a lot of gatekeeping and people trying to define you but at the end of the day it is your choice to what your orientation is. The bisexuality community accepts you.
