Statistics Rambles!!
OKAY EVERONE, HERE WE GOOOO
so, before we begin, this includes unposted/never to be published chapters, going from old drafts of the 07 crossover to the beginnings of a cassandra-centric adventure in the bayverse, but here is the calling out statistic post that nobody wanted, made in the nice hours between 1 and 4 in the morning
So.
Some characters have not appeared yet.
Spoilers, obvis. Some is from deleted which I will not be specifying but still.
So to clarify names:
slipper_slime = 18!Sunita kickin_karai: 12!karai nardo87 = 07!Leo
If you do the math, the 07 boys could have been mutated in 1987, which is obviously something that this fandom would find nice enough to headcanon. It's not just me. anyways.
For each individual universe, here's who (percentage-wise) talks the most! (Sorry mobile users)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In order:
2012 Dontron97 24.7% - 473 happy_Mike 20.2%% - 387 newage_red_artist 19.1% - 366 Cpt_Leo 13.7% - 263 sticks_n_pucks 10.6% - 204 ello_yello 7.6% - 146 kickin_karai 4.1% - 78
I was honestly surprised by how close Casey was to Leo? I knew he was gonna catch up despite his late entrance but have I not been including Leo enough or is Casey just everywhere.?
I thought that I had April talking a lot more than i did, lmao. Then again I have a few chapters in my notes app that aren't in these numbers yet so maybe she's a lil closer than will be shown in the images.
Rise NeonLeon9000 27.3% - 512 Bootyyyshaker9000 21.7% - 407 mystic_mike 17.5% - 328 red_Raph 14.7% - 276 sherlocked_corn 7.3% - 137 free_brownies 6.1% - 114 CJones 4.4% - 83 slipper_slime 0.9% - 16
Raph's number in comparison to his bro's is where I expected 12Leo to sit. Percentage-wise the two are essentially the same, but Leo is way behind his mikey whereas raph is only about 40 messages away, which mind you is still a lot but its less noticeable.
Cass is definitely further up because of the times her name is used in the 600 word abandoned draft of an actual fic I mentioned previously, but other than that her being just barely below April is what I guessed. CJ being so close, though, was a surprise.
Bayverse sleepdeprived_shell 26.9% - 286 im_blue_katanas 26.5% - 282 dear_pizza_supreme 23.3% - 248 callme_rafi 21.1% - 225 Casey 1.2% - 13 April 0.9% - 10
I knew Don was going to be first. Not a doubt in my head. I expected Mikey to be above Leo, but I guess I had a little too much fun writing the blue one. I did also use Bay mike as a conversation starter rather than a carrier a lot, so I guess that's why he's so little to what I remembered. Raph's expected, I removed him for the entirety of the winter arc which is like 1/6 of the fic rn.
Poor April and Casey 😭. I'm sorry but Bay April is confusing and Bay Casey is annoying and that's how they're probably going to stay for the durration of the fic.
2007 secretly_mike 56.9% - 112 don_247 29.4% - 58 raph87 10.7% - 21 nardo87 3.0% - 6
Leo and Raph were in an old draft of the first 07 appearance. In that draft, Mikey also sends 34 messages, apparently? I was surprised when I saw it, but it turns out i just had him do triple messages a lot.
MM sarcasm_stabs 33% - 35 tech_hits 27.4% - 29 actually_mike 19.8% - 21 blueberry 19.8% - 21
~~~~~
Next up: who do I write the most.
There was a version of this with every character in the fic, but it is way too eye-hurty and way too long for me to list out each individual character in this post, but here's the simplified version that combines each iteration into one person.
Tumblr media
Same numbers as last time, just combined differently.
Characters Don 24.6% - 1149 Leo 21.4% - 998 Mike 21.2% - 990 Raph 18.6% - 871 Casey 7.5% - 351 April 5.4% - 251 Karai 1% - 47 Sunita 0.3% - 16
I knew Don was gonna be in first. Hes the fav. Leo being in second? Surprising, but Leon was the most talkative person which is not only on brand but theres also 2 leo cult chapters and I'm always a sucker for some disaster twins. I expected Raph to be 2nd, so him being 4th? Shocker.
I knew the Caseys would be bigger than the April's just because there's an extra one for their possee. I considered making JR his own collumn but decided eh whatever.
Also Rip Karai n Sunita I love you both but self control <3
~~~~~
And of course, finally, by dimension. We already knew the results but here we go.
Tumblr media
By Iteration Rise 40.1% - 1873 TMNT 2012 32.9% - 1539 Bay 22.8% - 1064 TMNT 2007 4.2% - 197
Yep. Just as I guessed. Rise, then 12, then Bay. And then of course 07 who haven't even been given a chance to shine yet.
I'll get to them. At some point.
Anywhizzle, I'll come back to this post a lot just to edit numbers if I'm bored, but the images probably won't ever change, so take then with a grain of salt.

Black Cat Au part 5
1. The cats usually go out of thier way to avoid Batman. At first they were afraid of him getting thier hands on thier DNA and finding out they weren't fully human, but then they just kept doing it because they knew it bothered him for some reason.
That and he hated seeing the marks and gouges left behind from thier claws after they run up the buildings with them and they didn't want him to lecture them again.
2. The bats need a distraction so Kitty runs over to some street performers/musicians and ask them for thier help. He sings the punk version of Everytime We Touch with a hint of his ghost powers. It works like a charm and a crowd quickly gathers around.
Kitty leaves thousands of dollars worth of jewels in each performers instrument case and walks away casually as thier eyes bug out.
3. In my original imaginings of Black Cat (and how I still view him) Dannys outfit is a copy of Catwomans jumpsuit/ bodysuit with a spare smaller whip wrapped around his waist and acting as a tail, hence the name Black Cat. Alley tried her best but sadly she couldn't get him to wear the open chest version of the bodysuit. (Which i cannot find a reference picture of for the life of me)
"Theres no way I could pull that off."
"Bro, everyone would be able to pull that off" ;)
Cue kitty's red faced sputtering and Catwoman mentioning she wanted grandkittens and Danny firing back with "Deal with the kids you have now!"
In this household we gang up on Black Cat.
4. Robin had just chased a criminal into an abandoned apartment building and took them down. As he was about to finish securing the thug with rope he spotted something glowey and purple out of the corner of his eye. He notified Oracle through the coms and went to investigate only to find a...door? It was completely identical to all the doors around it aside from its color and glowyness. Upon opening it however he came face to face with the Ghost Zone. The bats explored it for a bit before they returned home. The next day the door was normal and no longer lead to a swirly green goo dimension.
5. Danny seemed really worried/distressed when Damian told the purple door story to him at the flower shop and he had a hunch that he knew more than he was saying. But mostly he was feeling protective. What was making his flowerboy so scared and how quickly can he chop it into tiny pieces?
6. Black Cat has a weird reaction to Blood Blossoms and Batman takes note. He discretely starts testing Kitty for other weaknesses to supernatural wards. All others come back negative. Batman eventually chalks it up to an allergy and moves on.
7. Danny eventually tells Damian about Phantom after they land in a time sensitive situation they can't get out of without the use of his powers. He of course swears him to secrecy.
8. Batman accuses Black Cat to be a League assassin sent to infiltrate the batfam and gain thier trust. Kitty was genuinely surprised about assassins being a thing around here. The batfam apologized for Batmans conspiracy theories and Kitty shrugged it off, saying its not the first time he'd been accused of being something he's not and he doubts it'll be the last.
9. If Kitty gets kidnapped after he and Robin start dating he'll start singing the chorus of My Boyfriend's Back to taunt the villian right before Robin appears to beat the stuffing out of them. Bonus if its Skulker and after Kitty reveals Phantom to him, so Damian already knows everything and has tools Kitty made to fight supernatural beings with.
Skulker learns to fear Robin that day.
10. The cats decided they didn't like the pictures on thier wanted posters so they broke into the police commissioners office and personally handed him pictures they took of themselves doing the nya cat pose.
Gordon just puffed on his pipe as the teens jumped out a window to escape, "Kids these days..."
I told myself I wasn't doing more Black Cat stuff but then people made fan art so here I am with more.

Percy Jackson Characters Explained by Dogs
So, after reading this post about how Percy Jackson is actually terrifying, but we (the readers) don't notice it as much because we're always on his side, I commented that certain dogs can explain it more visually. So, I decided to make it into a post (with images). Now, here we are, putting dog photos next to PJO-HoO characters. Here we go:
Percy Jackson = Caucasian Shepherd or Belgian Mallinois
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s a sweetheart to family and FAMILY ONLY. To everyone else, he will label you as a threat until proven otherwise. (Also, I just realized Percy fits the Mastiff type dogs perfectly, which is what Mrs. O'Leary is).
2. Nico di Angelo = Dalmatian
Tumblr media
He’s not seen as violent, but every now and again he will tear someone or something to shreds. Which, coming from a "harmless-looking" individual, makes him creepy. (Ironically, Nico went to Dalmatia in HoH).
3. Jason Grace = Rhodesian Ridgeback
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He will stare down and hunt down lions, but is not known for violent outbursts. (I just realized it also fits his "raised by wolves" bit, since the RRs need good socialization to be stable).
4. Annabeth Chase = Border Collie/Dingo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's highly intelligent, fierce, adaptable, and extremely intimidating when focused on a task (usually involving hunting of some kind). Also, the size difference between Percabeth is an added bonus. (Can you imagine the tiny Dingo with the giant CS curled around it?)
5. Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano = Greyhound
Tumblr media
She's dominant, laser-focused, and will chase down her goal, no matter who or what stands in her way.
6. Leo Valdez = Basenji or Nureongi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's slightly out of place (Basenjis don't bark, but yodel) with a very dark past (Nureongis are only bred for dog meat), but has the personality of a sweetheart with a hidden fire.
7. Hazel Levesque = American Foxhound
Tumblr media
She's good around horses, and feels comfortable in both violence and family.
8. Frank Zhang = Dogo Argentino or Aksaray Malaklisi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He doesn’t seem intimidating at first glance, but a closer inspection reveals a strong ferocity that has killed many beasts (also, he's freaking huge).
9. Piper McLean = Calupoh
Tumblr media
She's extremely beautiful, which allows her to get away with certain things that would otherwise turn some heads (reference to her charmspeak, as well as her desire for revenge).
10. Thalia Grace = Carolina Dog, Siberian Laika, Canaan Dog, Brazilian Caramel, or Indian Pariah
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's too wild to stay in one spot, but always close by whenever someone needs assistance.
So, yeah, that's what I got so far. I might make some more in the future, but we'll see.
PS: I changed the "were" to "are", since some companies in Korea still breed Nureongis for meat only.

Can I play the name guessing game as well?
I only have guesses for Mark and Sal.
Mark - as in a “mark” in a con. The intended victim of a “con man”. I never thought of it before but I suppose Borrowers are running a con, taking from humans without anyone noticing.
Sal- is his name short for “Salvage” as in finding odds and ends and giving them new life or purpose. How borrowers often find lost or cast aside human objects and create a new tool out of said findings.
Fun games and really fun name meanings from the ones that have been uncovered. That’s awesome! You’re clever.
I WAS NOT EXPECTING SOMEONE TO GET MARK THAT FAST 😭💀 there's some good reason for that name too.
Ding ding ding!! Winner, gagnant! (Only the Canadians are getting that reference)
Not quite on Sal though! He's going to be a tough one. Another hint- aside from Bram, all my tinys have a trend with their names.
5/8 character names deciphered (Bonus if anyone can figure out what's going on with Clyde from instar)

Sadly all the wips I have atm are ones I'm not allowed to share because they're part of a bang :'0 but I'll send you some stuff! Unearth Actually Six
Original Post + Snippet | Scratch | Snippet pt 1 | Snippet pt 2 (Unearth) | Actually | Six (you are here!) | Pillow
Ok so im very bad about using number words and number letters(?? like 123) interchangeably in my drafts, so we have exactly one with "six" in the fic itself and two "6"s in other stuff, but ones an infodump so i wanna share it too fhdjkalfhdls
From Chapter 3: Mommy Issues (still yet to be renamed, maybe it never will)
(buying all the raw meat they toss around while pretending to be normal grocery shopping)
“Alright, how many of you guys are there again?” he asked, looking at the pasta aisle. Dustin raised an eyebrow, probably asking to clarify if there was a secret question in that. Steve shook his head, “How many people do we need pasta for?”
“Oh uh.. 5? Or, six in case Mike's cousin comes over.” Steve raised his eyebrows at ‘Mike’s cousin’ but nodded and grabbed 8 boxes, “One for each of you, plus me, plus extra in case someone messes up.” he stated, mostly just maximizing the number to allow them to reasonably take more from the deli.
Then they went straight to the deli, dodging an aisle where Mrs. Hagan was trying to calm her youngest kid down. Steve pretended to look over the options before loading the cart with as much cheat meat as they could get away with.
Plus bonus infodump about rope climbing from Chapter 9: Steve Are You Okay? Are You Okay, Steve?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(First image: height reference for the tunnels, they’re pretty massive and Steve would probably barely be able to touch the ceiling if he jumped, and the hole is at least 6 inches deep before entering the cavern, probably more so since even with him lifting the kids up they still had to climb out. So he basically had no choice but to climb)(Second Image: reference for how tiny the rope is. This is Steve right after jumping straight down and standing directly next to the rope with it in the foreground. In gyms (and most likely the hawkins high gym as well) ropes for climbing are twice as thick or more, and braided or some other type of large weaving that lets you get a better grip (Third image))(He also takes his gloves off because they have upside down gunk on them so his hands would have slightly better grip)

the meaning of my rats' names (according to the internet) rated on accuracy let's go
Robin - "bright fame" he is one of my smarter rats, he's quite good at foraging toys so i guess the bright part is true. he also has some amount of fame, because i'm posting him all over tumblr. rating: 8/10 it can also refer to the bird species called robin. my robin isn't a bird, he is a rat. rating: 1/10
Olly aka Oliver - "ancestor's descendant" he does descent from a long line of rats i suppose? though this is in fact true of all my rats. rating: 9.5/10 i also found "olive tree" as a potential meaning. olly isn't a tree, he's a rat. rating: 1/10
Valentine - "strength, health" he is growing up to be a strong and healthy rat boy so i guess this is true! he's also turning out to very likely be my largest rat. rats in general aren't very healthy though. rating: 9/10
Sammy aka Samuel - "his name is god" i expect sammy would very much like to be all powerful, but he isn't a god. he is a tiny rat. rating: 1/10
Tobi aka Tobias - "god is good" rats aren't religious. rating: 1/10
bonus:
Viktor - "man of victory, conqueror" he was victorious at conquering my heart. rest in peace. rating: 10/10
the others have had non human names so they aren't included

For over 50 roughly-weekly episodes now, the best freelance journalist on the subject of the "weight loss industry" has been partnered with the best freelance journalist on the subject of shitty scientific methodology and I wish you'd listened to all of their episodes before I recommend this one, because I'm going to have a hard time convincingly explaining just how horrifying it is that for the first time since 2007, the American Academy of Pediatrics has updated their guidelines for what doctors should tell parents who are concerned about their children's weight.
If you had listened to all 55 episodes (so far, including this one, not including Patreon bonus episodes) then the following facts would no longer be controversial for you, because wow does Aubrey Gordon bring the reporting and wow oh wow does Michael Hobbes bring the science, footnotes, methodology reviews, and all.
The evidence that there even is an "obesity epidemic" is startlingly thin, because it turns out that the datasets that we get our historical weight estimates from are tiny and weirdly selective.
It is probably not a coincidence that the moral panic about the so-called "obesity epidemic" began the same year that Weight Watchers was founded, also not coincidentally the same year that the FDA approved the first two "weight loss drugs," both of which were disasters. Nor that virtually all weight-loss "science" is funded by the for-profit weight-loss industry.
Every study purporting to explain why we are putting on weight (assuming we are) has failed replication. It is not simply "calories in, calories out." We are not eating that differently from people in the 1950s, decades before the obesity epidemic. We are not getting perceptibly less exercise.
There are many statistical studies (with astonishingly poorly chosen datasets) showing (surprisingly weak) correlations betwen obesity and ill health, but virtually none of them are designed to even try to determine the direction of causality. For example, it is at least as likely that diabetes causes weight gain as that weight gain causes diabetes.
None of the studies to date have even tried to tease out health effects "caused by weight gain" from "caused by fat shaming and weight discrimination," because we don't even know how to do that.
And most importantly, almost no weight loss studies show their three-year success rate data; when that data has been sought out, all but two have a failure rate in excess of 95%, and the average weight loss per attempt at the three-year mark is a gain of 10 pounds. The other two methods have a success rate of almost 1/3rd, and even for those 1/3rd, an appalling list of high-probability complications.
The one thing that has entirely reliably been proved to cause weight gain is attempting to lose weight.
The American Academy of Pediatricians is recommending that all children with a BMI of 27 or more be offered:
A very expensive six-month "whole health" intervention that has a 1 in 3 success rate, requires the whole family to attend every multi-hour weekly session, and is not covered by any known insurance. And the whole medical field has enough capacity to treat about 350 kids a year. If that is not available to the parents (and it won't be) ...
Children age 8 or above may be prescribed fenteramine, metformin, or semaglutide, all of which have about a 5% success rate, none of which have been adequately tested for long-term safety in children, all of which will have to be taken for a lifetime, all of which are known to cause major rebound weight gain if or when the patient goes off of the drug, and ...
Children age 12 or over may be referred for stomach-reduction surgery. Which does have about a 1 in 3 success rate, but with insanely high complication rate. Even patients who experience weight reduction through stomach reduction have about a 70% regret rate for two reasons: it creates a lifetime of serious health complications like inability to absorb vitamins from your food and extreme vulnerability to alcohol poisoning, and, worse, the weight loss is actually, on average, pretty minimal. It will turn your maybe-sick fat kid into an even sicker slightly-less-fat kid.
The AAP's own introduction to their guidelines admit that they are not seriously addressing the social determinants of health nor any other hypothesis for why your kid might be gaining weight. They also say quite bluntly that they are not even going to address the question of whether losing weight (in the unlikely event it works) will make your kid any healthier.
If these guidelines are followed, the results are going to be catastrophic.

Plumbing the Depths: Ben Milton's subscribers' hot takes, Part 8
See Part 1 for context. Today's hot take is:
Alignment is a useful and good tool for any ttrpg game but especially fantasy ones with literal gods and too many people simply don't understand it.
The author of this take doesn't justify their reasoning, so we're left to try to read a lot of meaning into a few vague words.
I find myself in weird territory here, because I feel like I'm arguing for what is already the consensus take: at best alignment is a little confusing but harmless, and at worst it can actively cause intra-party schisms. The designers of D&D saw it was bad, so they first rendered it mechanically vestigial in 4E, and then in 5E they rendered it obsolete by introducing ideals, traits, flaws, and bonds as a superior way of establishing fictional personalities.
Without knowing why this person thinks it's "a useful and good tool", we're really just talking in circles here. Milton offers that early D&D used "alignment" in the sense of political or factional loyalty, which he argues could be valuable to most any RPG. Unfortunately, Milton views the world of RPGs through a tiny, OSR-shaped keyhole – so I doubt when he said that he considered how he'd explain the value that "strong factional allegiances" would add to a game like, say, Alice is Missing.
But even then, "strong factional allegiances" is a far cry from "alignment". Those early factions literally consisted of such surreal goofiness as "the Forces of Chaos", which really only makes sense within the dreamlike/idealistic subgenre of fantasy settings – like Planescape. The author specifically refers to alignment, not faction play, and claims it works for "any ttrpg" – I really think Milton is bending over backwards to try to find something positive to say, but there's no indication that this is anywhere near the author's intent.
So you know what? Let me just give you something better. Blades in the Dark pretty much sets the gold standard for how a modern RPG promotes characterization, so lets break down how it's done there.
First: all characters are required to be unscrupulous criminals who are members of the same street gang. By requiring us to have comparable goals and values, the game precludes the possibility of a party schism. Second, we each choose (from preset lists) our ethnic heritage, economic background, and preferred "vice" (i.e., addiction). These provide a springboard for personality without forcing anything in particular. Finally, and most importantly, at the end of every session we can each earn a small amount of bonus XP if, at any time during the session, we expressed our character's beliefs, drives, heritage, background, or struggled with the vice.
The XP reward creates a powerful incentive to engage with characterization, but it doesn't put any real limits on our play. Beliefs and drives can freely change from one session to the next, allowing the character to plausible learn, grow, or stagnate as we see fit. XP is awarded only once at the end of the session, so there is no need to rigidly enforce one's characterization at every turn – you can still earn your XP even if you repeatedly compromise your beliefs for the sake of expediency.

Hi! Ask game 💖🦅🤲🤩🧠 (Sun/Moon)
Hewwo!
💖 What made you start writing?
Uuuuuh brainworms i guess 8I I mean I wrote as a little kid, like most little kids do, and I wasn't discouraged from doing it. I don't really know, I guess. If you read enough stories you eventually have to start making your own? And I lucked out that no one ever told me to stop?
🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
I already answered this one, so I'll go more in depth!
Permission Slip actually has two kinds of outlines. The first is the 'main' outline, where I wrote out the main plot points. It hangs out at the very top of the document, after a section dedicated to notes.
This was the outline for chapter 1 and half of chapter two:
Tumblr media
Some of the details changed once I actually wrote the scenes, but there was no reason to go back and change the outline by that point, so it sticks around as a neat record.
I don't write chronologically, I jump up and down the timeline and write on whatever scene I happen to be feeling. I also have a terrible memory and PS is really long, so to keep from forgetting where I was going with a scene when I come back to it later, I have scene outlines. This one is for the middle of chapter 11:
Tumblr media
They're a lot more focused, though you can see there's still a lot of wiggle room in what I'm planning and what I end up doing. They end up sprinkled throughout the chapter and get deleted as I go along. The scene outlines can be brief (one of the funniest I wrote just said 'Gregory is sad 8(' ) or they can be almost play-by-play, it just depends on what I need.
Honestly I recommend trying it if you have a hard time organizing your thoughts. Its a lot easier to navigate a conversation when you can refer back to a few sentences that say "okay they talk about this thing, and then this thing, and then this character gets mad and says this".
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
Tumblr media
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
Sun. 100% it's Sun.
🧠 Pick a character, and I’ll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.
I have just forgotten any and all headcanons I have for them
Sun's sensory array has been pretty fun! He's coy about it because I think it amuses him, but his rays are designed to read air pressure in some pseudo-sciencey way, which is how he maps out the room around him. It's not foolproof; Freddy took them off guard at the end of chapter 4 because Sun couldn't sense him, the Green Room's window just registered as a solid wall and he had no idea someone was in it. He also can't sense anything smaller than a baby (theoretically the smallest thing he'd need to know is there), so real small stuff has to rely on his regular vision. But tbh? His array would make him even better at navigating somewhere pitch black than Moon, since infrared needs at least a tiny bit of light to work.
Moon flinches when you touch him. It isn't because he anticipates pain or because it hurts or you take him by surprise, like he can watch you reach out towards him and he'll still flinch when you make contact. It's just... something he does.
Bonus Moon headcanon: He likes bugs. as evidenced by the comic >u< he's a bugboy. The only reason he doesn't keep one as a pet is he agrees that there's too much risk of it escaping into the Daycare. Sun... tolerates the bugs, in that "I don't personally like them but you do and I love you so I'll support your interests" kind of way

albums i have listened to in the past 7 days
this is my first post but i have been listening to an album everyday this year in the hopes of becoming cool and knowledgeable. here are albums 256-263
1. It’ll End In Tears - This Mortal Coil
Tumblr media
i’ve been a big fan of the cocteau twins for a while so i really should’ve given this a listen sooner. i’ve been in a dreampop/shoegaze kick recently and i heard that this is a classic dream pop ethereal wave album, and now i can confirm thats true
2. Vespertine -  Björk
Tumblr media
i am trying my best to listen through as much of Björk’s discography before Fossora is released next week and this is 2/9(?). this was such a magical album oh my god pagan poetry i love him i love him.
3. Tough Baby - Crack Cloud
Tumblr media
i saw crack cloud last summer and i thought they were such a fun band, kind of post-punk and quirky (they have 20 members???? only saw 7 though). i was maybe a tiny bit disappointed by this album but it still has some fun tracks - costly engineered illusion and crackin up
4. Hold The Girl - Rina Sawayama
Tumblr media
i was maybe a rina sawayama stan last summer (a pixel?) so i was looking forward to this coming out last friday. as my music taste moves away from pop i find that a simple slay just doesn’t do it for me anymore, i wish more of the tracks were frankenstein or imagining.
5. DECIDE - Djo
Tumblr media
catchy neo psychedelic pop from joe keery. play this album in front of your dad and he might go huh this sounds like when i was a young chap. i think i was doing the dishes when i was listening to this and a few of the tracks blurred together. i want your video may be my favourite non-single (change is good)
6. Swim Team - Christelle Bofale
Tumblr media
i got really sad on a car journey home at night and put this on and it was just so entrancing. i have seen some people criticise this EP for not knowing how to finish a song, so they drag on and end awkwardly, but i think it just increases the dissociation potential. i know that i will cry to this in the future so much, thats just the effect of indie folk
7. Melt My Eyez See Your Future - Denzel Curry
Tumblr media
this is my first time listening to a denzel curry album and i really enjoyed it. i have become really into hip-hop and this year’s releases (including ghais guevera’s there will be no super slave and danger mouse’s cheat codes) have not disappointed. this record is laced with great samples and collaborations, such as zatoichi [feat. slowthai]
(bonus)
8. Night Of The Worm Moon - Shana Cleveland
Tumblr media
i adore this album so much, from the lead singer of my favourite surf rock band, la luz. while the name refers to the moon before the spring equinox, night of the worm moon is a perfect autumn record the musical equivalent of a vegetable soup. look into the face of the sun and walk backwards into winter.

(Tenor Jussi Bjorling sings on Voice of Firestone, and the Nelson family poses for The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.)
Day 64- TV and Radio:
TV:
1. Howdy Doody, October 1st, 1952.
2. Tales of Tomorrow, season 2, episode 7, “Substance X,” October 3rd, 1952.
3. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, season 1, episode 1, “The Rivals,” October 3rd, 1952.
Radio:
You Bet Your Life, October 1st, 1952.
Voice of Firestone, “Jussi Bjorling,” October 3rd, 1952.
Phil Harris and Alice Faye Show, “Hotel Harris,” October 5th, 1952.
There was a lot of interesting stuff today! On Voice of Firestone, “The Swedish Caruso,” tenor Jussi Bjorling sang. Bjorling definitely has a powerful voice- it's even more noticeable to me, having just heard Mario Lanza. The orchestra selections were mostly parts of operas, but they were riveting. One song I knew solely from Takarazuka- “Nessun Dorma,” from the opera Turandot. It was gorgeous.
On You Bet Your Life, a couple won their section, won the word of the day, and then won the bonus question. That gave them $1880, which would be almost $22,000 today! There was also a bit of fun banter between the first contestant and Groucho. She said she was 46 and unmarried, so Groucho asked, “Would you like to get married?” “Not particularly.” “Why Not?” “While I’ve tried it three times.” “So what? The Republicans have tried it four times and they’re still going!”
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet was interesting to me, because it’s one of those shows that was a cultural reference point for decades, and I’ve never seen it. It was a decent family sit-com, made unique by the fact that they were a real family. I liked that the pace was a little slower, so it didn’t just go from punchline to punchline.
Finally, Tales of Tomorrow was creepy to the max. It was about a mysterious substance that people in a tiny town ate to the exclusion of all else, yet they managed to thrive. What was it? (It wasn’t Soylent Green!) Most of the episode was a homerun for me, except for the fact that Ayn Rand seemed to have written part of it. When the people are just given all the food they want without having to work for it, everyone suddenly loses their ambition to go to work or do anything productive anymore. Gag me. (It’s stupid anyway, because of the simple fact that people want more than just food in life! No one would want to work for any possessions? For cars, houses, clothes, jewelry, status, etc?)
...And now a word from today’s best sponsor: Wonder Bread! Hey kids! Do you want to grow bigger and stronger? Well, then you need to tell your mom to buy you Wonder Bread! Only Wonder Bread has 8 ways to build strong bodies! It’s got as much protein as meat, as much calcium as cottage cheese, as much phosphorous as an egg, as much iron as three lamb chops, as much vitamin B-1 as fried liver, as much vitamin B-2 as four slices of cheese, as much niacin as six sardines, and as much energy as 2 glasses of milk! That is, if you eat at least 2 slices with each meal every single day! Now watch as we tie a puppet to a red, yellow, and blue balloon, just like the package with red, yellow, and blue bubbles! Remember to nag your mother- you need 6-8 slices every day!

Fear and Loathing in Schoharie County
7/8/23
When you see a neon paper advertisement at your local ice cream store, you heed it's wisdom. This particular paper had been telling me for years to make my way to the Landis Arboretum and I finally listened, dragging Reagan with me.
First and foremost, and what we came to the arboretum for, was a visit to the barn book sale. This was the only thing we truly planned for today, leading us to some serious swag (art-magazine for me and the golden retriever bible for R). Funny enough, we found out that an arboretum has much more to offer than old dusty ass books stuffed in a barn. With our tour merch in hand, we decided to walk the venue heading from the upstate NY version of Stonehenge to the main meeting house with its unmatched views of the countryside. After a brief encounter with a very good boy and its struggling owner, our day at the arboretum was done (too hot to hike), however we weren't ready to go home.
What's there to do in Schoharie county? I'm genuinely asking b/c that was the dilemma we were faced with. After a 15 second ride through the downtown of Esperance, I saw we were in striking distance of a covered bridge (epic JF reference) so I figured that would be cool to visit. What I didn't know was the covered bridge was one of the focal points of the Lily Park and home to the July 8th LILY FESTIVAL. Unbeknownst to us, we had stumbled upon one of Schoharie's finest summer events, drawing in what seemed to be the entirety of the county. After, frolicking through the flowers and countless vendors, we found ourselves hungry for more of the culture. Luckily for us we had passed both a vegetable and fruit themed store on the way to the bridge.
Only by sheer distance to the park did we go to the carrot barn first - sadly not as many carrots as expected. What it did have was a multitude of carrot and carrot related products and merch as well as the makings of your typical farmer's market. I indulged in two carrot cookies and a carrot muffin, but again, no signs of any major carrot infrastructure. As our consolation prize, and for lunch, we made way to the Apple Barrel Cafe and Store. My minor hyper-fixation of carrots had pivoted to apples and to our luck, the menu was fruitful with apple themed dishes.
***Returning to finish this 8/20***
After ransacking the barn, we decided to get a feel for the country living that is Schoharie county. This included the local baseball field in lily park with one of the best outfield views I've seen, a drive through of Schoharie City's downtown (foreshadowing) a brief stop in Middleburgh (where I hope to return one day to see the Blenheim bridge), and then an impromptu visit to upstate NY's dullest college town, Cobleskill (Sorry not sorry).
Following an uneventful tour of the tiny-banner, beige buildings, campus conveniently located 3 minutes from a farmer's tool shopping center, we decided to head home with one final stop on our list, ICE CREAM! Seen on our way down, we decided to revisit the dairy carnival. (passed it on our way down) Do you want generic ice cream and generic fried goods, at a generic atmosphere all with a drive thru? well you're in luck my friend, I know exactly where to go. But honestly, this place seemed pulled straight out of Grand Theft Auto with it's lack of anything unique or distinctive. I highly recommend everyone goes for the soul churning experience w/ bonus points for actually going through the drive-thru. We capped this expereince off with a lil film/photo sess and then made our way back to mi casa.
Following "downstate trips" include potential visits to Hudson, NY and the Long-Pond Studios.

I'm hoping to set up a Tiny Frog Wizards game for my family, but the youngest is 8 and isn't going to get bombast and hubris. We're ALL, however, very excited about tiny wizards that are frogs. Would sincere, helpful froggies be easier to obtain through tweaking the game, or through using another game as a base? The Paths of Power seem like they MIGHT be a problem, and neither child wants to be a terrible inconvenience to everyone in the general vicinity. But they'll LOVE the Control mechanic!
(With reference to this post here.)
Frankly, I wouldn't be inclined to use the Paths of Power rules at all for a group with multiple players under the age of twelve – running a game's core resource loop as a player-facing gift economy requires a certain level of emotional maturity from everyone involved. Plus, at that age kids tend not to have entirely outgrown the "if it's funny the first time, it's funny every time" stage, which may lead to them trying to do the exact same bit in every scene, then getting their feelings hurt if it isn't rewarded every time.
My impulse would be to lose the Paths and just refill everybody's Power Dice to 3 each time the group gets to rest and mark off Misfortunes, retaining the mid-scene bonus for declaring a Misfortune in the first place.
Beyond that, there's nothing in the rules that particularly demands playing your tiny frogs as a bunch of well-meaning incompetents. You're likely to have a lot of trouble coming up with non-horrifying problems that can't be trivialised by a bunch of semi-godlike amphibians who actually have their shit together, but if that's a challenge you're willing to take on, go for it!
