i’m sorry but the mischaracterization of satoru gojo sometimes makes me wanna scream into the void. people really love to take one scene, one line, and twist it into a whole narrative that doesn’t even align with his core. like… are we even watching the same man??

HE DID NOT NEED A MORAL COMPASS. satoru’s been repressing his own desires since he was a child. a literal kid born with a power that could’ve destroyed everything around him—and yet, he didn’t. he never misused it. not once. not even out of spite. not even when he had every right to feel angry and lash out.

and people still act like he was this walking weapon on the verge of snapping if someone didn’t hold his leash. no. this is someone who’s been raised with expectations no one else could ever comprehend, who’s constantly chosen restraint, duty, and control even when it’s agonizing. and he makes those choices alone. over and over again.

i think people overlook how deeply internalized satoru’s moral compass already is. his “should we kill them?” moment wasn’t a breakdown of ethics. it was frustration, grief, anger. it was a TEENAGER who just saw someone he was protecting die in front of him, asking a friend for perspective. he wasn’t lost. he wasn’t about to burn the world. he was trying to process in real time. but people latch onto that line like it’s some confirmation that he needed someone to “save” him from becoming a monster.

no, actually. he saves himself. again. and again. and again.

he chooses to teach. he chooses to protect. he chooses to carry the weight of reforming a broken system—and yeah, he does fail sometimes. but that doesn’t make him any less righteous. if anything, it shows how much he shoulders on his own.

like idk. maybe it’s just me but i’m over people reducing him to “a time bomb that only didn’t go off because someone held his hand.” no. he’s the one who defuses himself. every single time. because he wants to do better. because he knows how powerful he is. because he cares.

satoru gojo isn’t dangerous. he’s the strongest—not just in power, but in how fiercely he holds himself together. he’s been alone at the top his whole life, forced to carry the weight of a world that only ever demanded from him, never asked how he was. he didn’t need saving because he was the safety net for everyone else. and even when it broke him, even when it hurt, he never turned cruel. never lost himself.

THAT’S WHAT MAKES HIM SO SPECIAL.

not just that he could’ve gone dark—but that he chose not to. again and again. that he stayed soft, and kind, and hopeful, even when he had every reason not to.

he deserves the world. and it kills me that he never got it 😔

Oma & Shu parallel: Scarf

There’s been a long-standing theory in the Zutara fandom that Zuko and Katara are the reincarnation of Oma and Shu. I wanted to add evidence from the live action that confirms it.

I would like to point out the slow motion of when Katara passes him, and he reaches out for the scarf. He looks mesmerized, as if he’s getting lost in a memory. He then proceeds to follow her.

In episode 4, we hear the story of Oma and Shu, and I noticed something very familiar in one of the designs. Oma wears a prominent scarf that flows behind her, just like Katara’s did when she walked by.

This scene is filmed and directed to draw our attention to Zuko’s fixation on the scarf and Katara herself. The slow-motion sequence of Katara walking by, her scarf flowing behind her, and Zuko reaching out to touch the scarf, is highly charged.

My theory for his reaction is that he sees a scarf similar to one he wore in his past life on his reincarnated lover, flowing the same way it used to on him, only this time it’s in her color instead of his. Something in his subconscious tells him to reach out and follow her, and I highly doubt it was simply because of his motivations to capture the Avatar.

Mamma Medarda just looks DOPE as FUCK in this mask, nothing else to say. She seems to be speaking to Mel, which would indicate she survives, which I hope for. We're clearly dealing with a soft Noxus invasion given the prevalence of Ambessa's troops.

Very interesting to see these troops activating. You have to wonder if they're a failsafe to Silco dying, or if they are being activated by Silco loyalists.

What's with Smeech getting SUCH a highlight? What a dope design. Also that shot is the same colours and location style as Sevika shooting with her Jinx augment, so I am wondering if Sevika won't be the one killing him.

Freedom fight Jinx style art? Wow. With blue haired minions behind her? Unexpected! I wonder what Ekko and his firelights think about this, and whether they'll take her in despite everything. This seems to be very Zaun vs. Piltover now.

Our only proof of Viktor in season 2. He's in the Zaun depth with caped figures, most likely shimmer addicts. I wonder if the explosion is him saving them and starting his machine cult, or him defending himself. Anyway, he survives, and I also wonder how many physical augments he needs to heal himself from the explosion, courtesy of the hex core?

Of course the only proof we need that Jayce is alive is that Cait has an Arcane sniper rifle. I don't see Viktor making her one after the explosion........

I said sometime ago that Matar Paneer has a bird friend. Behold

To summarize, since I already explained before and don't want to bore anyone: Paneer found him in a tree as a little peachick, tragically orphaned after his family was attacked, killed and eaten in their nest by a predator. Not wanting him to be alone, she brought him back home and fought for him to stay, to which her parents eventually agreed (Paneer does not take "no" for an answer ever). Besides Pepper Jack, he's her best friend in the whole world and they're practically inseparable.

Extra bird factoids:

Obviously, his physical appearance is extremely abnormal. Instead of the typical green, his train/display feathers are a bold and impressive mixture of reds, oranges and yellows; nothing but warm, vibrant colors that almost make him look as though he's catching fire. Furthermore, and perhaps even more strangely, he seems to be made up of triangles: triangular "eye" patterns in his feathers, triangular markings underlining his eyes, triangular crest feathers, even triangular pupils... No one is certain why he looks like this; it's mostly been waved away as a bizarre phenotypic mutation

He is also abnormally intelligent. He appears to understand human/cookie speech and even responds when directly addressed/conversed with (as much as he can, being a peacock). He understands photos, he recognizes himself in mirrors, he's even demonstrated some problem-solving/critical thinking skills a few times. Extremely impressive for an animal (esp for a peacock, which are pretty dumb irl)

He sits at the table with the rest of the family during meals. His first night with them after being taken in, Paneer set him down next to her plate so he could reach the food (he was super smol), which her parents didn't like. They argued about it until Paneer grabbed Paravani + her food and sat down to eat on the floor in protest (Paravani is family, family sits at the table, if he can't sit there then she can't, either), after which they caved (MP is STUBBORN you have to understand) and let him sit. He sat on the table proper while he was a chick and got his own chair when he grew large enough

Paneer considers him her friend and her equal and does not take kindly to him being referred to/treated as a pet

He mimics Paneer's actions often. Like, if she tilts her head to one side, he'll do the exact same thing. It's cute

Paravani is very curious and adventurous in nature, and normally quite friendly/approachable unless you give him a reason not to be. Even then, he's slow to anger and usually becomes skittish instead; to truly anger him, you have to hurt Paneer, whom he is very protective of

As a chick, he would hide in Paneer's hair when he was scared

He does get along well with the rest of the family - but while he got on with Pepper Jack and Golden Cheese right away (bird people + he could sense their kind natures immediately), he was terrified of Burning Spice for quite some time (it's mostly because of how he looks. He looks like a predator to him). It took a while of Spice deliberately appearing docile/nonthreatening and the others insisting that Spice is nice for Paravani to overcome his reservations. Nowadays he's as fond of Spice as he is everyone else

As I mentioned here, Matar Paneer takes after Kartikeya, Hindu god of war and victory and Shiva's second son. Kartikeya is known for having a peacock as a mount, named Paravani. Keeping in line with this, not only did I give Paneer a peacock as a companion, but one day, her Paravani will grow big enough for her to sit and ride around on, just like Kartikeya's. No one knows why this happens, either. It freaks a lot of people out. Once again his unique features are written off as "mutations + lol Beast-Yeast creature")

Matar Paneer always blames herself for his family's deaths. She thinks that, if she'd found them in time, she could've fended off the predator and saved them, and Paravani wouldn't have been orphaned. Giving him a home and good company was the absolute least she could've done for him...

Since the post about differences in translation WRT Kaito and Kokichi's relationship was unfortunately deleted, I've taken it upon myself to make my own for posterity's sake.

A pretty well-known change that makes Kaito sound more insulting then he does in the original. Kokichi's response was also altered not only in the text, but in the voice acting; in Japanese, he sounds uncharacteristically emotionless, rather than annoyed like in the dub.

OG: まあ、百田ちゃんとオレの話が合わないのわ最初あきらめているけど。。。 / Well, I'd already given up on seeing eye to eye with Momota-chan since the beginning… ピュアなんて言われてのわ初めてだよ。オレみたいに嘘つきがさ。/ But that's the first time someone's called a liar like me pure.

Kaito goes from telling Maki to let Kokichi go or he'll die, to telling Maki to let Kokichi go so she won't get executed:

NISA: Maki Roll, cut it out! You'll get killed if you don't!

OG: ハルマキ、もうやめろ！それ以上やったらマジで死ぬぞ！/ Harumaki, stop already! Any more than that and he'll seriously die!

Kaito's response to Maki saying he shouldn't have cooperated with Kokichi is translated to sound like he was pestered into it. In the original, it sounds like he's seriously reflecting on Kokichi's state of mind throughout the game.

NISA: It was kinda hard to ignore such an annoying guy. Geez… I wonder how far ahead he planned this evil scheme of his.

OG: 。。。あいつわそんあ易しいヤツじゃねーよ。/ …He wasn't that simple. まったく。。。どこからどこまでが計算だったんだろうな。あいつの悪巧みわよ。/ Man… I wonder how much of it he'd planned out. For that cunning scheme of his.

And of course, Kaito's final words on Kokichi were made to sound a lot harsher.

I don't even have a problem with dean/cas as a ship. It's lovely. I can see it - i really can. Under different circumstances, I might even love it and be obsessed with it.

Those different circumstances being if Dean and Cas were in a completely different show. Cause in THIS show, Dean and Sam, as written by Eric Kripke and portrayed by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, have such palpable chemistry that it reached through my laptop screen and punched me in the gut.

I'm like, "aw yeah Dean would be so cute with that gay angel! Too bad he's desperately, wretchedly, fatally in love with his little brother though. Sorry Cas, it's not your fault. You never even stood a chance."

By the time Cas arrived, it was way too late. I had already seen how deep the codependence went. I already knew that there was no hope for Sam and Dean. I already knew that their love was terminal. It's not that dean/cas isn't appealing. It's just...impossible.

you like. often hear antis peddle the sentiment of "fiction affects reality," when discussing of taboos in literature and their depiction. this is like very disingenuous to me in general for many reasons - but the main one being that it's like,,, extremely easy to identify the opposite. i.e. the way reality impacts fiction.

because like. the media coming from different cultures often directly reflect on that cultures current reality and social norms. severance is an extremely popular show that is direct social commentary on the specific experience of american corporate. this is unique - different to sitcoms, that are more often going to reflect the experiences of the american working class and are thus played on more accessible forms of tv.

and this is even more true for places that have more cultural and racial hegemony. a lot of korean media are revenge fantasies, specifically commenting on a broken legal system excess lenience on juveniles. a lot of japanese media analyzes characters that break or defy social norms - commentary on the cultural implications of compliance and politeness. a lot of indian media reflects on themes like nationalism and casteism.

these are all things that are happening in reality that are being reflected into fiction, even when indirectly. a bollywood romance about two people from opposing castes may not even be directly commentating on casteism itself, it may not expand much on it all - but the culturual influence, the implications. all of this is weaved into the fabric of the fiction itself.

that's why it feels like... ridiculous to hear when you apply that to taboo and small, more personal forms of injustice and violence. people are not writing about something to do it in real life, they are using experiences from real life to write about something, to metaphor about

One of the things that I never stop thinking about is the lack of any “happy” endings in Black Sails (putting aside Schrodinger’s Flint and Silver’s role in that. It’s been done). Madi is the most obvious one to me: time and time again she demonstrates how willing she is to sacrifice everything for the cause and the war including her own life - a decision that is taken from her by Silver’s actions instead replaced of the treaty which she explicitly rejects multiple times and is in complete opposition to what she’s tried to achieve. She’s also entirely alone in her opposition to the treaty, putting her in a position where she either becomes Silver’s wife in Treasure Island, leaving her entire life behind to run an inn or (if you make Max Silver’s wife in TI) being the sole person still trying to achieve the same goal that previously had money and ships and fighters backing it. 

Anne and Jack are slightly less obvious. Jack’s obsession with being remembered and having an important legacy is brought crashing back to reality in the Gurthrie’s parlour with the realisation that people are far more interested in lies that paint his friends as monsters than any resemblance of the truth - Flint’s vision of the future coming true before he even speaks it. The flag that everyone associates with piracy - his main legacy - is “fine” and the future of piracy in Nassau essentially has to remain a secret (when I can only imagine he wants to yell from the rooftops that he fucking won). Anne!! The amount of times she expresses the desire to leave piracy behind with Jack and have something away from that life and the amount of times Jack promises her that once he accepts the pardon so he can keep his name and then once they defeat the governor, then that’s it. And instead - they carry on. Because if Jack does of course she will follow! And because Black Sails is a show that follows the vague contours of history, pretty soon Jack is hung, Mary has died and Anne is imprisoned for thirteen years (depending on how you view the historical debate around her fate, that’s just my personal view).

And of course, this leaves Max (with her ending being the best on the surface) with the people closer to her having disappeared. Her existence is still very much built on sand and looking to history England returns to Nassau, and all she’s built will be gone. Ultimately, Vane is right, the empire survives on the idea of trading submission for comfort - but even that isn’t true! That traded comfort doesn't last for a meaningful amount of time and she's back to the same place she started.

Choose your fighter, trauma edition (aka the entire show in one chart)

I've been saying for over a year now that I want to write a post about House characters and attachment theory. I start my new job tomorrow, so for now this is the very concise tl;dr of some of the concepts I want to touch on in it, haha. I have reasoning behind all of these so I would love to discuss if anyone's interested or has other thoughts!

(also, imo House, Cameron, and Thirteen all have both mommy issues and daddy issues, but I assigned them based on whichever feels most prominent in their life/actions)

The lack of media literacy of some Sam Stans is frankly disturbing and should be made to look ridiculous.

To rely on the fanfiction in their minds to jump to the conclusion that Bucky and the others "work for Val", just because we DID NOT know how Bucky proceeded after the abrupt ending of the movie, and we STILL don't know how the New Avengers operate, because we only had a 2 minute post-credits scene whose sole purpose was to connect to the events of Avengers Doomsday, which basically gave NO information about them as a team. It's stupidly absurd.

Just because Bucky and the others decided to stay as a team (because literally the movie was about a group of people being forced to work together to confront a seemingly indefensible threat, and to connect and form a bond of mutual support in the process), and take the Avengers name is NOT proof that Val is somehow exerting her influence on them. Did these people even watch the same movie?? Do you really think that Bucky, Yelena and the others would listen to any of the lies of an evil manipulative person like Val after all that happened?? Tell me you didn't understand any of the plot without telling me...

Val does NOT own the Avengers name, so her publicly introducing them as the New Avengers does NOT mean shit. Bucky was already an Avenger since Infinity War or before. John literally said people considered him an Avengers since TFATWS.

Clint brought Wanda to the team, and Steve brought Sam to the team as well, there is no clause prohibiting members from inviting their own recruits to the team. So of course Bucky would have every right to decide to form his own team and invite his new teammates. Bucky has as much right to do this as Sam.

Literally people forget that Val has NO support, she is in the crosshairs of the authorities, she got rid of all her labs and all her research. Her only hope was to be able to control Sentry and of course it slipped through her fingers. Literally Bucky, Yelena and the others have her on a short leash, and they can literally take her down whenever they feel like it.

Also, exposing Val at the press conference wouldn't have worked as the only people who knew Bob was Sentry and The Void were Val, Mel and The Thunderbolts. If they'd presented Bob who didn't even remember what just happened people would have thought they were crazy or just lying to try and bring her down.

Even if Yelena and the others were to say publicly that Val hired them to get rid of any evidence that might convict her, it would be their word (that of former criminals) against hers. It could equally be interpreted that they are just lying because they have no evidence.

And another thing, when Bucky captured the Thunderbolts he was going to take them to testify with the impeachment committee. Their statement would only be useful against Valentina in this situation. For this information to be made public before it got to the Committee would have been counterproductive and would have most likely lost its credibility. So there is literally nothing to prevent Bucky from later arranging a deal in which Yelena, John and Ava could testify against Val in exchange for protection, a reduced sentence or even a government pardon.

People make a stupid fuss that the New Avengers might be somehow related to the government, when we don't even know if this is true or to what degree, but they conveniently forget that the OG Avengers were literally formed by SHIELD, a government organization. And their first team mission was ordered by SHIELD as well. In CA:TWS Steve and Natasha are still considered to be working for SHIELD, i.e. the Government. That only stopped because SHIELD was bought down. The Avengers only gained autonomy because the government organization controlling it ceased to exist.

The idea to form a new Avengers team in CA:BNW literally came from Ross, the same guy who wanted to have enhanced people under his control, the same guy who said Bruce's body was government property, and the same guy who ordered an extrajudicial execution order against Bucky, convicting him as guilty for the UN bombing without a fair trial which is literally a violation of his human rights. Ross is NO better a person than Val, and Sam was going to work with him just because he told him he "had changed", as if Ross wasn't known for lying, he already did it by telling the Avengers that they were "going to have a degree of freedom" if they signed the Accords, and this is NOT true.

Had the scandal of Ross transforming into the Red Hulk not happened on national TV, and thus not ended up in prison, Sam would have ended up working with him. The line between Sam "and when we disagree on how to manage a situation… what happens then?" and Ross "we figure it out together" literally already is a clear implication that they were going to work together.

I bet if BNW had ended up in a similar situation, with no word on whether Ross was arrested or not, and before that he had introduced Sam, Joaquin and maybe others as the New Avengers, people wouldn't jump to the conclusion that Sam is now working for him.

BECAUSE AGAIN, WORKING IN COOPERATION WITH THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT MEAN BEING SUBJUGATED BY IT. AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE OG AVENGERS, WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN WITH SAM'S FUTURE TEAM AND WHAT MAY HAPPEN WITH THE NEW AVENGERS.

Literally the only mention of the government with the New Avengers was Yelena's "we're the Avengers, the government said so," which couldn't be more ambiguous. Bucky literally has his trusted contacts within Congress, so without any problem they could have been the ones who could have offered them backing. Bucky literally already worked within the system and that did NOT stop him from stepping in and running things his own way. Of course he is going to seek that same freedom for his team.

In the same PC scene Yelena says that "there is a possible space threat and no one is informing them". If the New Avengers were really a government sanctioned organization, why isn't the government asking them to be the ones to investigate this? See the lack of sense? Bucky told Yelena to get a satellite image and send the jets when they are being kept out of the situation. That is literally clear proof that they are handling the situation their way and NOT asking for any permission.

Valentina is NOT the entire government, and NOT all members of the government are corrupt criminals. There's Rhodes who remained a colonel in the army even after he knew the system was infiltrated by Hydra, but that doesn't make him any less of a hero or any less of one.

Sam Stans think that Sam is supposedly so worried that now "the Avengers name is linked to a corrupt politician like Val", and that's why he waited 14 months to file a copyright lawsuit, when TB* could easily use a variant like The Revengers, The Avengerz, The New Avengers, East Coast Avengers, or any other that doesn't infringe copyright. Because avoiding that "The Avengers name is linked to Val" is the problem, not that a "bunch of super people are working for her" 🤡🤡
