#but dabi can adapt to hawks
tiredhawks · 2 years
Text
Since Dabi was on the streets, he had to learn a new way of living and figure out who he was now. And to survive, he adapted in ways that made him rough. He's mean, dangerous, and takes what he wants. He definitely wasn't interested in making friends. And when he joined the League, that didn't change. Rather he met people who all learned to live the same way he did.
And then he met Hawks. Hawks was the first thing he's really wanted that he can't just take. Dabi wanted to be around him, wanted to know about him, wanted to see him smile and be the reason he did. But when Dabi was mean, Hawks shot it right back. When Dabi pushed, Hawks backed away. Hawks was something new entirely, and Dabi didn't know how to get him. But maybe he did know, once. Touya knew what it meant to be vulnerable with people, knew how to show in his eyes and through his words that he cared. That actions could show things words could never describe. Dabi was made of razor wire and sharp words, formed out of necessity from being in his own in the dangerous underworld. But this wasn't the underworld, and Dabi wasn't on his own anymore. Maybe Hawks wanted to be close to him too, and Dabi was the only one forcing him away.
Dabi is terrified of letting his guard down; but if his reward is Hawks, the risk might just be worth it.

saw a post of yours from awhile back wondering if horikoshi has read frankenstein & i’ve been waiting for someone to bring this up bc dabi is frankenstein’s monster. there’s the obvious evidence like how he’s drawn in tribute poses from the movies & he’s got stitches yknow. but also the whole thing with fire? in the original novel it wasn’t “grr fire bad” it was the monster learning that fire could hurt him but could also be used as a tool which he comes to appreciate. not to mention the monster’s main character motivation being he’s going on an angry rampage bc his creator (in this case endeavor) rejected & abandoned him bc he was a “failure”. the parallels are there you have got to believe me
Tumblr media
So I've been a "Frankenstein, and I do mean the book not the movies, influenced BNHA" truther for years. I think what should be debated is whether Horikoshi read the original or not, and how much Ito's 2018 adaptation influenced the manga. I personally think if not the book, what he did read was Junji Ito's adaptation of it. Apparently Ito's manga is a very faithful adaption, which means a lot of the really amazing lines Shelley wrote and themes are in there, and I personally think they fit it better than the Universal Pictures attempt at Frankenstein, which was kind of a "low-brow" adaptation of Shelley's work. Horikoshi has long been a Junji Ito fan - our first panel of Tomura at USJ is an Ito homage, and I've spoken at length about how Hawks's mother is another shoutout to the great master of Horror manga, being named for one of his most popular characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, yeah, I think you can see the influence pretty clearly. I have a franken!dabi one-shot somewhere because I felt the influence way back when I got into this manga years ago, and I think it still holds up. I'm just not sure if we can say he hasn't read the original even outside this adaptation, because as far as I know, it's a fairly popular book in Japan as well and the first Japanese translation came out in 1953. Anyway, this is making me feel guilty about not working on my league meta where I essentially partition the entire meta with Frankenstein quotes.... Have one last Frankenstein panel with a parallel.

The Thing
Dabi X Reader, Keigo Takami (Hawks) X Reader, Tomura Shigaraki X Reader
Requested: @supernatural-hunter1
Request: I think I got an idea for ya, you know ‘thing’ that hand, from the Addams family? What if Dabi, Hawks, Shigaraki, met reader who’s quirk is a hunter like “Sam and Dean from Supernatural” and they’re sidekick is (instead of “thing” being a hand it’s their pet tarantula instead plus readers pet does the same things that thing does in the Addams family.)
and it’s named ‘Thing’ and reader said they got the name from the Addams family😅 and Dabi, Hawks, Shigaraki, immediately fell in love with reader, after they saw them in action with readers pet by their side?😂
Part 2 (Spinner, Mr Compress, Toga, Twice)
Warning: Spider is your best friend
Dabi
🔥 You were a vigilante, you did what you wanted when you wanted, the first time that you met Dabi you were getting rid of a couple of guys that had cornered a lady. 🔥 You were good with hand to hand combat and your quirk allowed you to see other people’s quirks so the moment that you looked at him you knew that he was strong. 🔥 You talked for a little while and he even teased you a little bit but you both seemed to get along well enough, you eventually found out what his real name was given your investigative abilities. 🔥 Dabi often found himself in the same place with you and you would give him time to escape.
Dabi sighed as he staggered through the streets, his fist slamming on to the door of the building that he had told you about, it was only a few minutes before you opened the door and raised an eyebrow. “Are you okay?” You asked. “Do I look okay?” He asked. “I mean you look like you're cooking yourself from the inside but I’m sure that’s not my place to say.” You said. “What happened?” “Nothing… Just a fight.” He answered. “Mmm.” You hummed as you stepped to the side “you can come in, if you're not afraid of spiders.” “What, you got spiders around?” He asked. “Just one, he’ll be back soon.” You said as he walked past you, “sit down if you want.” You pointed to the sofa. You walked into the bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit. “You need my help cleaning yourself up or can you do that yourself?” “I’m good.” Dabi muttered as he pulled his shirt over his head as you turned to the window when a rhythmic tapping started “what the hell is that?” “Thing.” You answered as you opened the window to see a brown tarantula the size of your hand crawl up over your shoulder where he sat producing the small chip and you looked at him and smiled “thank you big man.” You slipped the chip into the processor as the information gathered by the police on your current target. “That’s your partner?” He asked. “Problem?” You asked. “Not really… It’s smart.” Dabi said and he looked at you and nodded “that how you found out who I was?” “He had something to do with it.” You answered with a nod.
Tumblr media
Keigo Takami/Hawks
🪶 You somehow managed to get to every villain before the heroes had these past couple of weeks and in response they had asked Hawks to catch you. 🪶 You were the perfect hunter from what he could tell, you seemed to adapt to the fights well and you knew how to track people that even they seemed to lose. 🪶 Hawks of course caught up with you with no problem and the fight that followed found a place on the news the next morning. 🪶 He was walking you out of the prison 48 hours later when they realised that they needed your help to find their man and you were the only one that seemed to know where he was.
“How are you planning on finding him?” Hawks asked as you led him back towards the hide out that you stayed in. “I’ve got my ways.” You answered as you unlocked the door and pulled him in with you. You walked over to the large computer setup, you started it up. You tapped away, opening what looked like a tracking programme and hummed as the glowing light popped up 3 blocks away from you. “Huh, he’s closer than I thought.” “That’s him?” Hawks asked. “That’s him.” You confirmed. “How do you know?” He asked. “I have someone tracking him.” You answered. “You have a partner?” He asked. “Yup…” You mumbled as he looked at you. “We’ve never seen any evidence of anyone else.” He frowned. “I keep my card close to my chest.” You answered “Now let’s go before he starts moving again.”
You got to where the dot showed on the small monitor in your hand “where are you big guy.” You muttered as you looked around, Hawks watched you before he caught sight of something dropping from the wall onto your head “there you are.” “What is that?” Hawks asked. “This is Thing, my partner.” You answered, “your man is in there.” “You're not going to help me?” He asked. “Now why would I do that? I'd never get away if I did that.” You smirked. “You can’t get away anyway the ankle bracelet tracks-” “What ankle bracelet?” You asked pulling up the leg of your jumpsuit before disappearing, Hawks knew that he couldn’t catch both of you and he couldn’t risk losing the target again, he’d have to find you later after all you wouldn’t stay hidden for long.
Tumblr media
Tomura Shigaraki
🖐 Kurogiri had noticed you hanging around the bar and of course told Shigaraki, it took a little while for him to catch sight of you. 🖐 When they started getting ready to make a move he decided that he needed to get rid of you if the plan was going to work. 🖐 Didn’t take too long to grab you, you didn’t seem to be avoiding them and when you sat face to face with him bound to a chair, you didn’t seem worried. 🖐 Shigaraki didn’t like the confidence that you had but you proved that you deserved it after the first meeting.
“What are you doing hanging around here?” Shigaraki asked, you looked at him and shrugged. “Figured you were up to something.” You answered. “Really?” He asked. “Mmhm, at first I thought this place would be a great hideout, then you guys stole the place from right under me but I have to be honest what you are planning was far more interesting than anything I could find out there.” You explained as you felt, Thing, your tarantula climbed over your wrist. “Is that so?” He asked. “Mmhm.” You hummed. “What’s your quirk?” Shigaraki asked and you smiled as you leaned forward rubbing your wrists “careful sudden movements make me jumpy I only need 5 fingers to kill you.” “Funny I only need 1.” You shrugged as a gun fell from the ceiling to your hand before you felt the heavy weight of something on your shoulder “thanks big guy. Oh you wanted to know what my quirk was right? It’s called the perfect hunter, it basically increases my physical and mental prowess, makes me a natural born hunter with the ability to see my prey's quirk and it’s weakness.” “You said that you were looking for somewhere to stay?” He asked. “Technically.” You nodded. “Then provided you continue to be useful you’ll have a room here.” Shigaraki informed you. “Both of us?” You asked. “Does it shed?” Shigaraki answered. “It is a he and be careful he’s very temperamental.” You warned him. “In answer to your question he only sheds once a year but he does it in his own space, it won’t be anywhere near you.” “It better not or I’ll get rid of you both.” He warned. “You ever try to touch him and I’ll kill you myself, don’t forget I’m the perfect hunter and I’m pretty good at finding a weakness.” You reminded him. “Turn that anger on the heroes, you're going to need it if you want to stay here.” Shigaraki muttered as he went back to whatever he was doing and Kurogiri gestured for you to follow him to what you assumed would be your new room.

Will happily fulfill your request, partially because I love your writing in general and partially because I love getting to see behind-the-scenes stuff like an author's thoughts, and you've become one of my favorites. Especially for ShigaDabi/ShigaDabiHawks. What made you HC Dabi as a sub/switch?
Thank you so much for your words and your service in opening this door for me. This is gonna be a long one.
So first off I think that Dabi has the least sexual experience of the three of them (ShigaDabiHawks). Shigaraki as you know from this post, had unsupervised time where he experimented, and Hawks was very likely put in extremely unethical situations like honeytraps by the HPSC since he was legal (if we're being charitable, but given the HPSC's moral background we probably shouldn't be). Dabi was in a coma through a good chunk of puberty and then trying to survive/keep his skin attached through the latter half. Probably didn't start experimenting until he was 18+. This is also why when I write him and Shigaraki, I almost always have him fumbling into a new kink because he just either a) did not know that was a thing or b) did not know that was a thing he's into.
I think Dabi takes to switching specifically because he's very adaptable. Like once he does start to hook-up with people he's just like, 'yeah I guess I'll try anything once', and figures out that both ways feel good enough and he just gravitates towards topping or bottoming depending on what his partner(s) seem to be expecting from him. If they seem to think that he's a confident badass villain who takes no shit and that all the leather clothing is just an aesthetic choice (and not also because leather has a pretty high burning point and also won't melt onto his skin like polyblends would (also also why his shirts are cotton and later silk in the PLF era)) then he tops. If they think that he's more suited for being a bottom for whatever reason then he just goes with that, it doesn't matter to or bother him.
As for why he's a sub, in my eyes, I think this stems from the fact that Dabi desperately, desperately wants to be seen and valued. I think he has tried being a dom and that is also fine, he can do it and having his sub's eyes on him is good and fine. But he doesn't really like it. And that's because it's another place where he's just trying to live up to expectations that he's put on himself and the expectations of his partner(s). When acting as a dom it puts nearly all the power over the scene in his hands and that means he's so focused on getting a good grade in dom (something both normal to want and possible to achieve /sarcasm) that he literally isn't enjoying himself.
Meanwhile, when he subs he literally is just there, in the moment. All he has to do is be present and follow the rules of whatever play has been established. He doesn't have to make any choices for himself and critically, when he fails to do something or meet the expectations of his dom, he can be punished for that or earn back their approval by preforming tasks or something else deemed appropriate. As someone who has been chasing approval and absolutely desperate to be more than the failure that he sees himself as, having concrete opportunities to be rewarded/punished by an outside influence is a massive relief, incredibly validating, and allows him to just let go.
I think subbing for Shigaraki, in particular, works really well for him because based on their League work Dabi knows 1) Shigaraki already values him as a competent powerful ally that he trusts with serious responsibilities, 2) Shigaraki is powerful in his own right, and 3) has already accepted Shigaraki as being someone he's comfortable taking (some) orders from. So when he subs for Duster it's an extension and heightening of those things, but he knows that it's a safe place to give up all of his control because Shigaraki is not going to treat him like shit as soon as they leave the bedroom.
I honestly could go on and on about HCs for how I think Dabi (and Shigaraki, and to a lesser degree Hawks) engage with specific kinks like 'why is Hawks a rope bunny?', 'is BDSM a fetish or a kink for Shigaraki and what is the difference between those terms?', or 'why does Dabi, someone desperate to be valued and seen, have such a strong humiliation kink in all of your writing?'. I love writing smut and thinking about kink as a way of doing character analysis which is why I focus so much on it in my works!

I feel like the animators want Dabi to be bigger or stockier than he is in the manga I guess to be more intimidating? It’s canon he’s the same height as shouto rn (oldest will forever be the smallest lol guy) and he’s been established as pretty small overall. I respect the work animation needs but I wonder if they are doing that consciously or not.
Maybe?
I mean, take this with multiple grains of salt because I'm definitely nitpicking. I prefer the manga style by a wide margin so I'm not being objective here but...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Considering Dabi's not the only character they routinely alter, personally I just think the anime is a bad adaptation of Horikoshi's drawing style.
Overall, what I noticed it that the animators often struggle to render the more petite men in a style that resembles Horikoshi's. Hori draws with a certain... Roundness to facial features, and most of the male figures he draws, except for the bara men, typically aren't just pure hunks of muscles. They maintain a certain softness. Take Mirio, for example. He's one of the canonically beefiest characters, at least amongst the teens, but in the manga the way his muscles are distributed is proportionate to his body and doesn't make him a caricature. He still looks like a teenager. Anime Mirio instead looks like a 40 year old on steroids dressed up to (badly) pass as an high schooler. Gone is the fat on his cheeks that softens his jaw and shows his age. His neck is wider than his head, his shoulder-width is that of a tank more than a 17 year old. All his features are more angled and sharp.
However, I find that the differences in style aren't always as noticeable as those above tho. If I'm honest a lot of the time it's much subtler, like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I nitpick because I think character design is an important visual to give us a first impression of what a character's all about. Compare how different Hawks' frame appears in the manga vs the anime. Manga Hawks is clearly young. His face is still round, and even though his clothes give the impression of a bigger build, he's actually pretty lean, his muscles are sparse and compacted, more on his shoulder/back than everywhere else. His ankles are tiny, his pants way too wide for a waist as tiny as his, and their bagginness conceals how small he really is. You look at him and at first glance see a man, then you look better and he barely looks fresh out of high school. He's like a child who had to grow too fast to fit his clothes, or a kid who survives on hand-me-downs that don't fit quite well. The bagginess is not exaggerated enough to draw your eye and make you do a double take (like his anime version), but it's instrumental to make him slightly more imposing than he is. It masks the fact that he's still yet to grow proper facial hair.
When you compare that to the picture on the left, all that's basically lost. His shoulders and waist are wider, so the bagginess in his clothes looks more raggedy and unkempt than purposefully padded to be like that. His face is longer, his eyes smaller, making him appear older. His frame looks bulkier than his manga counterpart, his beard more prominent, and what you can see of his ankles is more filled out as well, less stick-like. His overall appearance is that of a messy 30-something who threw on the first pair of sweats that wasn't in the laundry basket. Which is still a somewhat accurate depiction of Hawks, I guess, but it completely misses out the fact that you're supposed to see him as the man who flew too fast to number two.
But what puzzles me is that sometimes, from the side, he still looks like his manga version:
Tumblr media
And I'm just... Curious. Is it because in the stills it's easier to emulate Horikoshi's distinctive style than scenes with a full range of motion? Or should we blame all the differences in design on the different animators working in the same team? I honestly don't know. But the results are often very mixed.
This is not to shit on professional animators because I'm sure that working on a budget and on a tight schedule is hard and unrewarding. But the different styles are still something you can either like or not. Personally, I don't. I find it too inconsistent. Tho I'll say that I still enjoy the anime for other things, like the voice acting or the osts

I love your AUs you make. Some of the best day dream material there is. I am to lazy to write stories but it’s great to day dream about them.
I have seen your post with fic recs.Do you have any other fic recs of fic you just think are amazing?
Thank you so much! I still need to write up a bunch of my other ideas into a coherent string of words, but there's more new AUs to come! Some a little more ludicrous than others, if that's even possible.
Back to #rarepears recs which is apparently going to be a Thing. Since you didn't specify any particular fandom and the fact that you can stalk my bookmarks to see what I've been reading lately if you only wanted one particularly fandom... I'm giving you a little bit of everything:
Anything by esama. She is the GODDEST of fanfiction and nothing you say can convince me otherwise. Don't know what to start with first? Since it's most likely that you found me through my SVSSS ideas, Metagaming by esama is a great starting point in her treasure trove of works.
Likewise, anything by llamallamaduck. There's so many rarepairs and crack crossovers like damn did you just let me into a buffet for free? Plus the update speed is insane.
nirejseki's MDZS fics are a thing of glory and I have no doubt that my characterization of Lan Qiren and Wen Ruohan are influenced by their works and it shows. (Moreover, I would have never seen Wen Ruohan as a shippable character otherwise.)
Still can't get over the image of Sukuna dressed up in pink ruffled J-pop girl stage outfit, complete with the makeup, nails, and All The Things in In another galaxy (we belong to you and me) by slex (slexenskee)
We all know that astolat is amazing, but The Price of Bread and Salt and Royal Flush (both Game of Thrones works) are insane because I never expected those twists and turns.
I'm still (patiently) waiting for updates to love is a call to arms by blackkat. I really do love political discussions and grey mortality, what can I say?
And as a result, you won't be too surprised to know how much I adore Cleaning Crew; Teaching Kids to Value their Safety, for Fun and Profit by Reavv. A BNHA fic that gives a little more explorations about the downsides to hero schools, hero life under the glitz and glamour of the pro-hero industry, all from an outsider civilian POV.Meanwhile you can totally count on a Kakashi-who-reincarnates-as-Hawks Naruto X BNHA crossover to totally disillusion hopeful naive hero interns like nobody's business: Learning to Fly by Asteroid_Duck (JustThatOneGirl1815). Or have a Kakashi-with-his-shinobi-mindset getting dumbed into BNHA and having to figure out what the fuck is going on in this new world and adapting to all this cultural shock: One Sandwich Short of a Picnic by Sagartolen.
Have some more awesome outsider POV, but this time it's set in Naruto: Doing the Work by MarbleGlove
How about a sort of outsider POV except it's freaking Dabi who doesn't remember his past (yay amnesia) so he's trying to research what could be his possible backstory... area cryptid upset no one bothered to inform him of his tragic backstory by crimsonseekers
Outsider POV is all fun and giggles, but have you ever considered Academic Outer POVs?? Especially about the Jedi Order?? center stage by deniigiq
I do very much enjoy reading Hawks-centric stories, so enjoy this one in particular as Hawks as to juggle teaching at UA on top of all the other things that he does: Hawks-Sensei by GC4life
A World of Water and Crystal by The Feels Whale (miscellea) where it's technically Shen Yuan (who is Not Shen Qingqiu in this fic just to be clear!!) X Luo Bingge, except Shen Yuan's love makes Luo Bingge revert into Luo Bingmei mode. It's great.
Who doesn't like a good old time travel fix it, crack taken seriously fic? So have this amazing yuri on ice fic eternity will be born from hope by theseviolentdelights99. Lots of social media content too which is a huge plus!
The Less Than Immaculate Conception by The_Carnivorous_Muffin, Vinelle somehow makes the pairing (Yes, Twilight Volturi Marcus X Bella the human) seem like the most rational and sane thing out of everything that happens in this fic. (Just a note that you need to read Painting Red Madonnas first since The Less Than Immaculate Conception is an AU of Painting Red Madonnas. But trust me, that's also tasty, if only just a little less insane. BUT YOU WILL TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHY when Bella's baby's name is revealed.)
How to even describe this masterpiece? Probably THE best worldbuilding I've ever found on AO3 period. Like it's Star Wars which is full of planets but this author is building out new conlangs and new cultures (plus all the OCs involved in describing the rich culture of the planets!!). So give it a go and then find yourself a week in being desperate enough for more than you join their discord server to read sneak peak snippets of future chapters: Civil Wars, Whistleblower Tactics, Schematic Drafting, And The Finer Points Of Sith Adoption: The Essential How-To Guide For The Engineering Jedi by Jackdaw_Kraai
So I tried to limit myself to 15 slots, but how can I not mention @marbelcrossovers? Go check out Marbel's beautiful BNHA crossovers; her GOJO X ENDEAVOR fic is what led me to write my first fanfiction Ichimaru Gin X Endeavor (and then start this tumblr blog) after all. And then I might have (evilly) thrown around the idea of Bakugou X Xanxus at her which turned into a 156k words and counting fic called Ready For The Mayhem. 😂👌 Good work Marbel! Cheering you on for more!
Anyways, happy reading!

Do you have a Katsuki Spotify playlist? Songs that you relate to him? I would like some recommendations ^^
I don’t have a Spotify but I have a LOT of songs that I associate with him. I warn you now that I mostly (mostly!) focus on the more melancholic “honne” than the bombastic “tatemae”. Mostly, it’s a lot of The Killers and Phoebe Bridgers. I’ll just list a few.
The Man by The Killers (THE honne song)
Geyser by Mitski (can also be used by many other characters!)
Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers (also applicable to many characters!)
Andy, You’re A Star by The Killers (this is the US HBO adaptation AU, hahaha, along with Mitski’s Best American Girl!)
Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher album (…With the exceptions of Graceland Too, which makes me think of Toga and a little of Dabi. I do think of Izuku and Katsuki when it comes to Punisher itself, but the song is probably more bang-on fitting for Hawks and perhaps even Dabi!) In particular I associate Garden Song, Moon Song, Halloween, and ICU with Katsuki and Izuku.
Other Phoebe Bridgers mentions: Steamroller and Georgia
And the left-field thematic song for the whole class, but particularly after they fetch Izuku from his Vigilante spiral: Heat Above by Greta van Fleet!

Villain Hawks that everyone thinks is a mastermind but is actually just running on pure luck and adaptability.
Dabi: Fuck. He's so smart. How long did it take him to craft that up? Did he lay all these pieces down so we'd end up in this situation? How much did he gamble on me making the decision I made? What is he expecting of me next? Can I outmaneuver him with shock alone? Or will he expect that? He knows me too well. This is dangerous.
Hawks: Wow good thing that staircase fell apart lmao

A Thin Veneer: BNHA 374
As dedicated readers of BNHA and meta for BNHA meta would know, the way characters drawn and depicted, the way certain scenes are framed, all of that is crucial to points Horikoshi makes about his characters, the plot, and the themes he wants to convey. Something to note is expression and how people are drawn. On the subject of Hawks, we know from in-text reactions to him that he is seen as conventionally attractive, and typically has a cheeky or happy-nature in his expressions. It's alone or in tense movements that we see something else.
What we do have is faces that break the Uncanny valley, like the famous image pre-"attacking" Best Jeanist, or getting confirmation about the raid where he very much show-cased his heteromorphic side, or the frightening image of him from Jin's pov as he was shrouded in shadows and looked very much like a predator.
Tumblr media
What's consistent in these images is 1. Hawks was in control at of himself when he makes those faces 2. They usually don't *take* away from him in terms of find him "palatable" even if he's frightening. And there's a point to this.
Hawks isn't unflappable; there are plenty of moments where he loses his facade and cool, and we can argue those faces were truer to his inner nature than the bubbly cheeky personality he puts on a lot of the time.
But facially, it's interesting that he was so solemn as a child, and when alone and comfortable with himself, he seems to be mostly blank-faced and not very expressive. Perhaps that is the "default" Keigo.
Why all of this talk of faces and how Hawks is drawn? Because with 374, something has changed, and it means something very heavy is coming up with Hawks in the future.
Tumblr media
First off, let's read about a certain trope
If a character is deranged or has just lost it for a moment, one eye is drawn as being very different than the other. Commonly, the Mad Eye (or its iris/pupil) is much larger than the other. Can also double as an unspoken Oh, Crap! moment. For extra effect, may be paired with Twitchy Eye.
Consistently, Dabi has been shown to be drawn with this trope time and time again. It's featured in promo art, in his battles, and this example up top. Dabi is clearly mentally unstable, openly and not unlike his friend Twice. The "Mad Eye" trope is meant to be a visual indicator of mentally instability. There's nary been a time where we've seen Hawks drawn like this. Even when he was drawn smirking before "killing" Best Jeanist, the eyes were the same.
Tumblr media
It's interesting that his expression and eyes were relatively stable through out the process leading up to killing Bubaigawara Jin. But in the same panel where he kills him (right in the image above), half his face is obscured. Still, there's still an element of control here. I, and many other meta writers, have written about how control is a specific element in Hawks's character. His skill is in his technique, where he lacks in pure power, his skill in using his quirk in extremely adaptable and creative ways shows that he has an intense amount of control over it. And essentially his quirk is in that - controlling feathers do the various things they're capable of (sensors, listening devices, controlling their movements, flexibility, hardness, etc).
When being in control is so crucial to Hawks's quirk functioning, and being out of control so crucial to his narrative (the frequent caged bird references), it's interesting that most of the time Keigo is control of himself, even if he isn't in control of his circumstances. It's what made the HPSC make him a spy and what makes him, in my opinion, an interesting character.
By interesting, I don't mean "good" or "bad", moral or immoral or amoral, etc. I mean interesting in that he's complex and there's still mystery to him. It's very hard to understand Hawks because Keigo's story and personality are layered and presented to us in a way that it's difficult to get a full picture.
So what do we see in this chapter?
Keigo losing control.
He's been remarkably poised this war arc. He started by immediately trying to assassinate AFO without hesitation: While he's had emotional moments, one of the most striking things is that in earlier chapters against AFO, he's been repeating something that shows where his mindset is:
Tumblr media
This whole fight Hawks has been telling Endeavor to keep a cool head, to not be provoked, to regain control of himself. He also keeps trying to play the circumstances - delaying so heavy-hitters like Enji can get a shot in, making sure everything it together.
Something else to notice is Hawks is wounded over the left side of his wave, and there's blood drying over his eye. However, there are numerous pictures of him in this state where his eyes are open at the same time or half-closed and there's no indication that he can open more than other.
Tumblr media
As you can see here, this is Hawks with the blood over his eye in various expressions. Even when stressed, his expression never gives us indications of the "going mad" trope as the most recent chapter does. Thus, whatever is going on cannot be explained as due to his wound - it hasn't been shown before.
Why make so much of a single panel?
Because it's important.
We have Hawks, known for being very in control of himself and who tries to be in control of situations around him, and we have heavy build up by Hawks being the one to remind Endeavor to not lose it.
And yet....
Tumblr media
This is not like anything we've seen from him so far. The mere sight of Twice alive again, the knowledge that what he did was for naught, heck, All For One is provoking him just on that basis:
"Time to learn how it might have turned out if you hadn't made his death your top priority back then."
Hawks's extrajudicial assassination of Twice became a viral moment, and don't forget it was drawn that way in the same time Japan had started undergoing protests for police brutality in 2020 due to viral videos of local beatings going viral amongst Japanese social media and twitter. Hawks has had to face immense scrutiny and criticism over his choice to kill Twice for the past few months, and his reaction to it has been to publicly apologize that he couldn't find another way to deal with him and to privately tell Best Jeanist that he admired the person he killed and wishes to be like him.
There's been no real show of regret, no reflection. And suddenly, with the appearance of Twice once more, we see a crack in this veneer:
Hawks's first words at the sight of the man he killed is to scream that the clones have to be killed immediately. Hawks's first expression at sight of Twice is one not of collected focus, nor even his usual anger or frustration.
He's drawn as if he's fucking crazy.
Horikoshi doesn't do panels like this for nothing. The way the panel beautifully lines up with one of Dabi's back covers, and the fact it's the first time Hawks has been drawn with the "mad eyes" trope is significant. It's showing us that Hawks, for the first time that we know of, is losing control of himself. And for a character whose narrative has been about controlling what people think and know about himself (and letting others do that for him), that's elemental to breaking down all we know of him.
This panel promises to show us another side of Hawks, a side he cannot hide away, or charm and joke his way out of. Naked, raw, and with no ulterior motives to control the situation, this face promises that we might finally hear what Hawks thinks of his actions and the reaction to them.

PLF Spotting (S6/E1)
Being a series of posts about the Paranormal Liberation Front material in Season Six, how it's treated, and anything added or removed from it. I'm very curious about how the anime's going to handle a lot of the war arc's material, like the Spinner scenes building on his MVA material, the scant amounts of the MLA we get, how certain scenes are framed, etc, so these posts will be mostly focusing on any of my observations about that. All the points about the villains (even if only tangentially) will make up the main body of the posts, whereas any stray observations about student or hero material will be in an odds-and-ends section at the end.
These are not going to be anywhere near as in-depth as the labor of love and grief that were my MVA In Memoriam posts, but I am an inveterate rambler, so I don't expect them to be real short, either, at least not every time. Unlike the MVA posts, these will have pictures.
I don't know if I'll keep them up all the way through Season 6; we'll see how it goes. Hit the jump!
On The Villains:
Tumblr media
I enjoy this shot of Machia from behind, particularly the clutch of people who are having to make do with the view of the stage seen from between his legs.

Tumblr media
It’s “Red”!  Though Twice just calls him Carmine in the anime, per the regiment, rather than the nickname for said regiment he used in the manga.  I like the way they adapted this guy's design from the manga.  The mid-blonde shade works well, he’s appropriately fluffy, and the coloring on his clothes is much the same as I would have guessed from their resemblance to combat fatigues.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
New pictures!  To accompany Twice’s lines about why he’s coming to Hawks for Liberation credo advice.  It’s the barest of scraps, but interesting for a dash of new material.  The most notable points are firstly the confirmation of the long-standing suggestion that Sanctum is, in fact, the name of Twice’s Number 1 and secondly the shot of Giran, apparently back at his day job.
Having put Giran back at work, I’ll be curious to see if the anime includes the shot of him at the villa during Twice’s death, the last we’ve seen of him so far in the manga.  (I notice they framed the shot so they didn’t have to make any hard calls on the state of his hand, though.)
I did get a good snerk out of Dabi's shot being very obviously the same couch he'll be filming his video on.
I also noticed a fairly significant difference in the Crunchy/Funi translation and Viz's on Twice's quote of Sanctum. To wit, the Viz release has Sanctum's line talking about how many people in Twice's regiment are harboring doubts, while the Funi translation has him saying that many people are still distrustful of the regiment itself.
While the latter translation is perhaps more interesting by virtue of being less expected—what it says that Sanctum includes himself in the group that's distrusted—but according to my trusty Translator Sis, the point this time goes to Viz.

Tumblr media
The colors on the villa building are nicely chosen, with the dark browns, in particular, being very reminiscent of traditional inns and the like.  The fenced-in yard and lack of any of the mountains the villa is supposed to be in are rather underwhelming, however.

Tumblr media
I really don’t love the way the anime frames Hawks explaining the regiment leadership.  The way the lieutenants get pushed in from the sides while the advisor reel scrolls down means that, by the time we’re at the third ranks, there are several whose faces you can’t even see.  Literally all you can see of Skeptic’s Number 3 is the very edge of his shoulder. (Dare I say, Heteromorph Erasure?)
Geten's and Compress's fare much the same.
Tumblr media
Grandma Bindi is missing her bindi!  Oddly, though, Big Sis Bindi retains hers.  I know the anime didn’t miss the connection; they gave them exactly the same hair color.  (More on the coloring decisions later.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glad the anime caught Toga’s Number 1’s dark skin, even if we’ve yet to see her again, and the yellow tone (for the…Carmine Regiment?) is not tremendously flattering.  They did leave out the extremely punk buckle collar on her shirt, though. Boo.
They also darkened up the hair on Toga’s Number 3 and for sure went all in on making that character a woman, judging by the cleavage, which is much more, shall we say, definitive than it was in the manga, where the drawing was small and indistinct enough to be ambiguous on whether it was showing breasts or just well-defined pectorals.

Tumblr media
The anime’s shot of the discontented blue-collar folk Hawks talked to is considerably different from the manga’s.  The manga just depicts one of those conversations literally, a handful of discontented people clearly in the middle of explaining their beef.  The anime opts to go symbolic rather than literal with this wall of silent, angry faces.  I think it's a solid choice, though, largely for its inclusion of people in the food service, construction and fire rescue sectors—i.e. exactly the sort of people whose absence is going to contribute to societal collapse when you arrest thousands of them without warning.

Tumblr media
Highly questionable change to the fears in Hawks’ minds-eye, and definitely the thing I raised the most eyebrow at this episode.
In the manga, Hawks' little doomsaying Imagine Spot, the fear that he will soon use to justify Jin’s murder, is a line of Twices in front of a line of Hood-chans.  Hawks fought Hood-chan with Endeavor; he’s keenly, personally aware of how massively dangerous a functionally unlimited number of High End Noumu could be, even if they are more fragile than the real thing in some nebulous, hard-to-put-numbers-on way.
In the anime, however, this shot is replaced instead with an image of an army of Twices, endless lines marching in perfect unison.  Anime!Hawks is not thinking about what all those Twices could create at all, only about their possible existence.
To put it another way, Manga!Hawks is preparing himself to kill Jin because of what Jin could do.  Anime!Hawks is preparing to kill Jin because of who Jin is.  Not, I think, something that bodes well for how the anime’s going to frame their upcoming confrontation.
Being more generous, I could observe that Hawks clearly never had a handle on who Jin is if he thought doubling a bunch of High Ends is something that would ever cross Jin's mind, and the regimented nature of the march above suggests a similar failure to grasp Jin's personality: the real Sad Man's Parade is nothing like what Hawks imagines above!
That's being generous, though; I still dislike what it portrays to the audience as being the "real" danger of Twice.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pus Yellow is maybe not the color choice I would have made for Mocha-chan.
Making X-Less’s cape red is exactly correct, however.  And man, it’s been a little hilarious to watch the back-and-forth on that. As I've followed it, it's gone about like this:
Manga!Shigaraki wakes up and murders X-Less for his cape ‘cause he’s wet and cold.  No one knows what color the cape is because the scene’s in black and white.
People notice that X-Less appeared in the Hassaikai arc way back when and so go back to dig up screenshots from the relevant episode to determine the color of Shigaraki’s future cape—red.  Fitting!  But unless Horikoshi slipped the anime people a very strange note during the design stages, that color is basically random chance.
The anime staff apparently decide Shigaraki doesn’t get to have such a heroic-colored cape (despite themselves giving him a red trench coat for the movie!) and specifically change X-Less’s color palette such that the Season Six promo trailer shows him with a black cape[1] instead.
A number of people complain.
The actual episode rolls around and X-Less’s red cape is restored, putting us back on track for Red Cape Shigaraki, as portrayed in the OP and ED of the season.

Point: The anime adds a fair amount to Tsukauchi’s speech about the plan, though one can’t help but notice that nowhere is there any mention of all those other teams we’ll later find out are “hitting the other PLF bases around the country.”

Point: If it were one of the students coughing up music notes from their nose, they would have gotten them as a silly visual.  God, why can’t the villains keep their cartoony panels?
Tumblr media
There’s something almost perverse about this sequence.  Like, in the manga, while Endeavor and company aren’t at a full-tilt sprint or anything, it’s obvious in their body language that there’s at least a bit of hustle happening, you know?
I realize that it’s sometimes hard to balance dialogue and action when manga authors can be so bad about cramming single panels to the brim with verbiage, but look.  The heroes+Tsukauchi walking very slowly down a hallway conversing amongst themselves and already aiming interrogatory questions at the cowering, feeble old man struggling to drag himself away from them, unable to so much as rise to his hands and knees as he does so?  It is a bad vibe.  The heroes come off like unhurried predators stalking a wounded animal, and even if you think Ujiko deserves that and much worse, it’s also just out of keeping with the heroes' own previously expressed concerns about arresting Ujiko quickly before anyone else in the PLF notices.

Tumblr media
The addition of a huge Police HQ room is wack, but I admit I mainly think so because it’s the kind of thing I look at and have the immediate response, “So remind me again how not a single member of the thousands upon thousands of people occupying myriad and varied positions in society managed to catch wind of this in advance?”

On Everything Else:
The opening narration runs, “In a superhuman society where about 80% of the world's population is born with a supernatural Quirk(…)”  If that’s accurate, it’s a fairly embarrassing example of the anime missing a fundamental part of the worldbuilding right out of the gate.  It’s going back to that 20% quirkless number, but that number has never stated that 20% of people are born, right here and now in Deku’s modern age, without quirks.  Rather, 20% is the number of people currently living who are quirkless.  It's not a static percentile, but one that is skewed heavily towards older generations.  Good job, anime! After all, it's not like that’s going to be a huge part of why the vestiges tell Deku it has to end with him next season!
The title screens this season are maybe a bit interesting.  PLUS ULTRA! they say, but all in reds with splatter marks reminiscent of blood spray.  They foreshadow a lot of violence, I think, violence which the design connects implicitly to that UA motto.
The anime gives a line of Rock Lock’s to Endeavor.  They give Rock Lock a different, new line at the beginning of the scene, but it is a slight shift in characterization.  The reassigned line asks how the police know that Garaki Kyudai is the man behind the Noumu, which is the kind of question that is 100% in line with Rock Lock’s skeptical, inquisitive, brusque persona.  Endeavor is, I think, rather less prone to double-checking other people in his field.[2]
The additional animation given to Midnight as she comforts Komori is very nicely done and feels a lot more painful with knowledge of what’s coming.
I also like that the added line about whether Kaminari and company will be on the front lines goes to Mineta, who is very consistently portrayed throughout the entire series as getting very anxious when his classmates are in danger, and who is also the student who will be most vocal about whether the heroes made the right call in events to come.
The anime adds a little scene of Fuyumi and Natsuo that is clearly modeled on the cover of Chapter 159—they’re exiting what’s obviously the same building—but leaves out the third person who was on that cover: Natsuo’s mouse-eared girlfriend.  Dare I say again, Heteromorph Erasure?

Season Premiere Special—On the OP/ED:
The lack of MLA rep in the intro is fucking criminal.  Did we really need two separate cuts of Dabi when this arc is the last we’re going to get of anything remotely relevant for Re-Destro and Geten to date?
One of those Dabi cuts really ought to have gone to Spinner, too, if this cour is going to cover the entirety of the war arc (it could, I think, based on the rate of adaptation so far—it might run an episode or two long, but so did the Hassaikai arc). Spinner's got several key moments.
The balance of student screentime, meanwhile, is telling.  Consider two examples: Tokoyami and Shouto.
Tokoyami is in the first wave attack on the villa; he takes out one of its exits, (temporarily) neutralizes the incredibly dangerous Re-Destro, and has a direct encounter with Dabi in which he saves Hawks’ life.  Of the students on the villa side of this arc, no one gets more sustained time and attention or has more singular impact.  Yet not only does Tokoyami not get any special focus, he isn’t in the opening anywhere.  He doesn’t even manage to make the 1-A group shot, since the people in it are the ones in Momo’s back-up group.
Shouto, by contrast, has got barely anything to do in this arc.  He helps with the evacuation and will eventually be revealed to have followed Bakugou and Midoriya, but that’s not going to happen until halfway through the arc.  Even throughout the remainder, Shouto's playing backup, taking only one shot that’s even sort of notable against Shigaraki and spending the entire rest of his time either backing up Endeavor or reacting to Dabi’s reveal.  And yet, he is slathered all over this opening sequence.  I’ve got nothing against the kid, but jfc this opening makes it really clear that he, Bakugou and Midoriya are the runaway fan favorites.
Why…  Why is Thirteen in the final shot of the opening?  She vanishes in the basement attack and isn’t seen again until the very tail end of the arc, for heaven’s sake.
I like the closing considerably better, though all the focus on the Tenko/Izuku bond is a little strange, given that that material is not going to be remotely relevant this cour.  It’s affecting all the same, though.  I particularly dig the blurry shot of Shigaraki’s mindscape, and that rapid three-shot series leading from Tenko’s long walk to Tomura standing before Deku looks gorgeous.[3]  Truly, it’s material that really would have warranted last season’s Uso Janai, the one specifically written to express Deku’s feelings towards Shigaraki that got handed off to goddamn Hawks instead.       I thought at the time, “Well, maybe Sakiyami Soushi shouldn’t have turned that song in two seasons ahead of the point at which it would be relevant,” but if Bones was always willing to start dropping hints about Deku’s shifting feelings early, maybe they could have done so back then.
Midnight being the focal point of the shot of UA's teachers despite her lack of prominence up to this point is something of a giveaway, but a nicely done one.
The fluttering handkerchief catching Uraraka’s attention is very good, as is all of the League stuff that follows.  I'd have liked Spinner to get something more prominent, given how center-stage he’ll be in grounding Toga and waking Shigaraki, but given that he didn’t even make it to the opening this cour, and his shot in the previous OP was weirdly off-model, it’s nice to see him at least present and looking good.
The quick flash to Rei’s flowers just as Dabi lights up the Endeavor poster is very good.  Nice foreshadowing of both Rei’s return and Dabi’s best attempt to destroy the family’s incredibly fragile peace.
God, Shigaraki having properly white hair is so satisfying.
Deku running through the crowd of classmates here is obvious foreshadowing for him leaving UA at the end of this cour, and I gather a number of people have talked about the order in which Deku passes his classmates, who’s left for last, etc. It is, of course, telling that the last batch consists of Iida (gets pride of place on seizing Deku’s hand to bring him back into the fold at the climax of Villain Hunt), Uraraka and Shouto (fellow members of the Unexpected Sympathy For Villains Club), and Bakugou (self-explanatory).  There is one other person in that final clutch, however: Shouji.
Tumblr media
Deku passes Shouji after Iida, even, which at first glance is a little strange, given how obviously important those last few classmates are.  Shouji has no particularly strong relationship with Deku, nor will he have a prominent role in this season’s material or Villain Hunt’s to follow—and yet, there he is. To stop beating around the bush, yes, I am very much choosing to read this as hinting towards Shouji’s emergence as the UA student who’s going to have to deal most prominently with the anti-heteromorph sentiment the final arc brings into focus in the upcoming collapse.       Will the anime retcon in the CRC and Spinner’s experience with heteromorphobia?  That remains to be seen.  But at the very least, someone on the staff is paying attention to who’s going to be foiling the member of the League the anime keeps trying to downplay.
Hell yeah, Gran Torino’s cape fluttering off into the sky; get that yellow symbol of failure outta here!
---FOOTNOTES---
[1] As if that’s a remotely reasonable choice for a hero whose quirk doesn’t somehow bank on black like Tokoyami or Kuroiro.
[2] I leave it for the reader to decide if that’s because Endeavor has more faith in the system or because he’s simply unconcerned with the consequences of acting on bad intel.
[3] Though I do persist in thinking that one of the important parts of the Long Walk is that a lot of people, not just one old woman, saw Tenko and either instinctively shied back or visibly made the decision to look away from him.  The episode covering that material softened it into a busy crowd of people not seeming to notice Tenko one way or the other, and this closer does the same thing.

Heart and Soul, Romeo
by Featherblazzt47
Endeavor Records is the biggest Music Industry in Japan, rivaled only by All Might Entertainment spanning both Japan and America. Todoroki Shouto is destined to fulfill his father's dream - surpass All Might in both the Music and Film industries. But first, high school.
Sero Hanta is in his final year at Yueei High School, and is working under the tutelage of Yamada Hizashi on the school play - an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet - which also doubles as Sero's final project. No pressure. But Sero's got this, so what could possibly go wrong?
In order to graduate, Shouto must have an extracurricular class. When Midoriya suggests the school play, Shouto thinks, why not? He's never acted before, so he'll probably be in the ensemble anyway, and it's an easy elective to satisfy the requirement. Maybe he can be a tree.
Shouto was not, in fact, a tree.

Note
376 was fantastic, and not too crazy cliffhangers, pretty chill. we got confirmation Dabi was truthful when he said "this is to twist the knife in Endeavor" when he gave Twice's blood to Toga and people were like "lol silly Dabi, because burning down Toga's abusive home is just the thing Endeavor hates" nah fam, he said "you'll be able to use it you know" and the Endeavor thing in the same panel he said he wasn't being kind to her, because he's STILL talking about destroying everything Endeavor wants to protect and Toga is doing that currently. And I just want it out there that my new sexuality is sexy, bloodied panels of Hawks fighting AFO. I should be concerned about Hawks making AFO's eyes go dark with his words, but it's too funny. AFO is all "Lmao Hawks you loser, weren't you talking all big before about how defeating me quickly was supposed to be Endeavor's job??? You're so wishwashi backing out now and making a guy with no arm and hazy consciousness fight his son!" because Hawks threw the "division" plan to the wind since that failed awhile ago, but remember adaptability was his strong suit in the databook. Plans can be adjusted on the fly. So then Hawks is just "*smirks and growls* Fuck you, you're such a chatty mess." Like, damn. "You already lost once already to the No.1 haven't you?! We're not abandoning anything." GO OFF!!! Don't let him get away with being smug and insulting.
It is so freaking offensive to me for him be insulted over changing strategies just because the last one didn't work like he did something wrong, c'mon this was not only bound to happen, but he's taking in the new situation with stride and still doing his best. Maybe because I have some lingering annoyance over all the "strategy blame" people put on Hawks. Spy thing? That mission was coordinated by the HPSC, they even add extra scenes in the anime to show it. Deku Alone Arc? Deku's own idea and Best Jeanist on the phone was all "ok well if he's gonna be leaving anyways, might as well keep an eye on him and see if it leads us to AFO." The U.A Shelter thing? Nedzu likely offered first. Division? All Might helped majorly, he was all excited over it with his villain magnets and introducing the plan, It was a group effort and I don't like people acting like Hawks did everything himself if it's just so they can blame him for the failure and not being as smart as he acts. Anyways rant over- So AFO was also going "Haaaawks~~~ go face Bubaigawara's will~" literally dragging out his name and singingly it sweetly, because they're insistent on flirting this whole battle. And seriously, I don't even like Naked AFO but why is their fight so much hotter than the DabiHawks Divorce? He never did this to All Might. Hell, this fight is LONGER than the one with All Might and even includes AFO trying to attack Hawks in the same way he did the "Shigaraki is Nana's grandson" reveal. We are so blessed, here's to more sexy bloodied Hawks smirking at AFO next chapter as AFO has questionable teasing energy with him 🍻
I'm surprised Hori is still keeping fast to Dabi only caring about his own revenge and using others to get to it because the Toga scene in the fandom loved to use that moment as a sign that Dabi does care.
I'm also surprised that Hori put so much attention on Hawks and AFO because Hawks at the end of the day is a side character and AFO is the second big bad beside Shigaraki however I'm not complaining as it sounds like he's had many good scenes with AFO and got to show off what makes him an amazing character.
It seems like AFO is just trying to go on the offensive against Hawks verbally but failing though, which is amusing. Who will win, the 100+ year old super villain or the 23 year old chicken boi?

Thoughts on Episode 118 (S6 E5)
Cool capes, BBQed birds, and devastating destruction. Let’s talk about it
Spoilers for the episode, as well as some very light spoilers for the manga. I'll put them at the end an label them though so people can stop reading
0/10 rating, they cut my beloved Wash. Unacceptable. Truly the worst and most egregious change the anime has ever made in the history of all 6 seasons. Unknown if it will ever recover
(Real talk I kind of understand. They made a point of saying everyone was evacuated, so showing that would have just been confusing. Good on them for catching little details like that)
Aside from that, this episode was really good! The animation was so pretty in this one (it’s been great all season so far but this one in particular was really nice.)
Regarding pacing, I was surprised to find this episode only adapted 2.5 chapters (I forgot that panel of Shigaraki on the phone wasn't how the chapter ended lol). Despite this entire season having a fair bit of filler per episode (especially with the jumps to that observation room) I've found the filler to be pretty non-offensive. This episode is the same, it felt like it moved at a healthy pace. Plus, all the episodes end on great moments, so that's a wonderful and effective use of filler content!
rip X-Less, you existed for the sole purpose of Tomura getting a kick-ass cape. A noble mission. His fans solute you
That scene where Mirko stands up while Endeavor protects her... why was it so smooth? Was that just me? Like those 3 seconds looked better than most of MVA lol
Random: but the noise Komori makes when Fat Gum kicks the kids out is so cute
Yay! Geten got a proper face reveal!
”Everyone believes you did the right thing!” Tokoyami has clearly never had to read the discourse that happened when that chapter came out
I wish they had put a little more focus on Crust’s death and how he specifically saved Aizawa. It’s fine as is, but I feel like they could have made the impact bigger. Hori had the talent of making people mourn him (a very minor character) and I wish that energy had stuck around
The crosswalk thing right before the destruction was so awesome. I got chills lol
I know there was a little rearranging this episode (showing the lab before showing Dabi, Deku's inner voice warning originally being somewhere else) but I think everything worked well. Again, it's an instance of how some changes can work better for their respective mediums
Despite the unforgivable lack of Wash, the scenes of the heroes reacting to decay was so well done. I’m a sucker for what I call “chaos scenes” (meaning any scene where characters are in a state of panic while chaos unfurls around them) and that was definitely a good one. Burnin screaming on the phone, the kids panicking compared to how mundane everything had been, Todoroki rushing in to save Deku, it’s all so good
Manga Spoilers
Regarding next week, I sincerely hope they add that one “bonus scene” from the volume extras (the one where Compress activates dad mode)
Seeing Tokoyami’s reaction to Hawks killing Twice lowkey irked me because it hasn’t been brought up since. I understand him wanting to be kind when he thinks Hawks might literally die in his arms, but we have NEVER returned to Tokoyami expressing his thoughts about this situation. Seeing it again just made me remember “Hmm, yeah that goes no where”. Maybe one day the manga will talk about it

Heart and Soul, Romeo
Heart and Soul, Romeo by Featherblazzt47
