johnny is a protective older brother. he’ll want to meet the guy you fall in love with and have the typical gun in hand while johnny cleans it like how his dad would have done if he were still around. he’ll want to not so subtly threaten to wipe the guy’s existence off of the face of the earth if he so much as makes you cry, and send the guy home pissing his pants. sure, you’ll get mad at him, but johnny’s seen what heartbreak does to people.

he knows his sister. you put your heart into all that you do, and if it gets thrown in your face after being stomped and spat on? he doesn’t want to see what happens to you after that. he wouldn’t be able to without breaking several laws.

so, when it comes to johnny’s sister, you, he’s very picky with the men you bring to his flat to introduce.

until the evening you meet his lieutenant. simon ghost riley. because johnny had gone drinking with the men after a particularly rough mission, and after getting absolutely smashed, price takes it upon himself to contact the only person the scot has in his phone. you.

and johnny should have known. he should have known.

the moment he saw you outside the bar, ghost’s arm under his and wrapping around the sergeant’s waist to keep him steady. the way you greet the 141 with a gentle smile and light voice. the way you stare at ghost a beat too long, and the way his grip on johnny’s waist tightens slightly as he returns your hello with one of his own. one that’s not as gruff, not as piercing as it usually was when meeting a stranger.

like how it was when he first met johnny.

and he hates it. he hates it so fucking much.

the way you and ghost click so easily. how ghost starts spending more and more time around johhny’s place after he met you. how his voice softens when he speaks to his sister, how his gaze loses its sharpness. how he watches her every move, a look of yearning and adoration growing by the day in those soft brown eyes of his.

because that wasn’t supposed to be you. that was supposed to be him.

he was supposed to be getting the gentle touches and quiet huffs of laughter. he was supposed to be the one ghost gave dry compliments to so he could smile at them. he was supposed to be the reason ghost stopped smoking because he didn’t like the scent that lingered. he was the one ghost was supposed to whisper inside jokes to whenever they were surrounded by other people. that was supposed to be him sitting at ghost’s side, his head on the taller man’s shoulder as they watched an inaccurate military movie, so that they could critique it throughout because it was him who knew that ghost liked to do those kinds of things.

He knew you since you were a kid, he knew your fears, how to make you do something, how to have you in pocket.

You would probably never notice him manipulating you. "It's for your own good" he would always say, and you believed him.

Since you were a soldier, he was really torn between locking you up and sending you to missions.

He just figured that having you on missions and having you in the field of view, he would be with you everywhere. If someone sees you without him, they're probably about to die, since he is hiding somewhere, waiting to strike if you get too close.

It's hard to call your relationship with him somehow, he treats you like a sister, friend, he loves you very much. But you're not his lover. But you two care about each other, that's all that matters.

His feelings will become more romantic as he starts to get attracted not only to your personality but also your body.

What is a Russian Character and How to write them

As @sarapaprikas-blog and I were working on this post, we noticed a gap of knowledge and public perception that we want to address. Plenty of characters get labelled as Russian in media without necessarily being Russian. On the other hand the Archetypal ”Russian” character often does not mirror the realities of being Russian. We are to talk about that.

What is Russia?

Russia is a country. It is the largest country in the world with over 140 million inhabitants, stretching over 11 time zones. It is often seen as the successor state to the Soviet Union, which in itself was the successor state of the Russian Empire. The Soviet Union and Russia do not have the same borders or government. However, modern Russia draws a lot from its history as the largest and dominant part of the Soviet Union. Before the Soviet Union, the area was governed by the Russian Empire. The Russian Empire, as the name already indicates, was imperialist. The history as an Empire with massive expansion, colonies and conquering different people, is arguably the biggest reason why modern Russia is as big as it is today.

What is Russian?

There is a difference between the language Russian, the ethnicity Russian, and the nationality Russian. In English the difference can be made out only by context. 

Who is Russian?

As aforementioned, there is a difference between Russian (Россиянин) meaning citizen of Russia, and ethnically Russian (Русские). The term Russian (Русские) usually refers to ethnicity, indicating a person who has Russian roots. Russian (Россиянин) implies Russian citizenship, regardless of ethnicity. Thus, a Russian can be someone with Russian citizenship, but not all Russian citizens are Russians in the ethnic sense. Also, not all ethnic Russians have Russian citizenship or live within Russia.

Ethnic-Russians are an East Slavic people. Obviously, they mainly live in Russia. But there are also large communities in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, and other countries. The traditional religion among Russians is Orthodox Christianity. The main language is Russian.

The country Russia is home to more than 190 ethnicities, including indigenous and autochthonous people, leading to a variety of languages, religions and practiced cultures. So, someone who holds a Russian citizenship, has ethnic Russian heritage and / or speaks Russian, can look very different than the cliche Russian bond girl or evil-doer indicates. That also means that those who get labelled Russian can live very different lives. Writing a Russian character gives you a lot of room outside of the prevalent stereotyped depictions.

Who is not Russian?

Simple - those who say they are not Russian, are not Russian.

Who are Slavs? What is Slavic? 

The slavic people are a variety of people, ethnically Russian people are part of that group. However, there are a lot of other ethnic groups that are Slavs without being Russian e.g. Poles, Sorbs, Czech, Ukrainians, and many more. Slavic is the corresponding adjective to Slavs. It is often used to describe the indo-Slavic language group. Slavic is also often used to describe the collectively perceived similarities of Slavic peoples' culture. However, that can be misleading and get’s often orientalised as not everything from Eastern-Europe or Russia is slavic.

Pet names in Russian About pet names. They are either masculine of feminine . Please don't use words like darling, kitten, baby, pretty, sweetie, little one, little fox, etc. as they sound really strange in translation to native speakers. Pet names are common for close ones (family, close friends, spouses). Sometimes primary school teachers call students by affectionate names. Also sweet old lady may call you ( Дорогой/ Дорогая). But outside of that nobody calls each other by pet names, only using names because Russians are very reserved and private people in general. Gender neutral pet names: жизнь моя - my life солнце мое - my sun or my sunshine  ты мое все - you my everything. лучик - sunray. мое сокровище - my treasure.  мое золотце - my gold or sweetheart. моя любовь - my love. ты моя радость - you are my joy. ангелочек - Angel. прелесть моя - my precious.

Queerness and gender-neutral speech in Russian Being queer in Russia is hard as queers face oppression. Because of that, there is limited to no public discourse on how to adapt and diversify the language to include queer and especially non-binary identities. This is a problem as the Russian language is extremely gendered and expresses a gender binary in near default. While gender neutral pronouns in Russian exist, it's harder to use them in real life as the neutral pronoun “оно” is mostly associated with things or animals and not living humans, similar to the English “it”. Often words generally do not have gender neutral alternatives.  However, one way we suggest for a more gender neutral speech is to avoid most explicit gendering as the flexible syntax in combination with using plural pronouns in Russian allow for more gender neutral speech. For Example: Я люблю их всем моих сердцем - I love them with all my heart. Расскажи мне о них! - Tell me about them.  Дай им время- give them time. Russian swearing                             In Russia, swearing is considered a sign of rudeness and poor manners. Use accordingly. Also, as mentioned here, Russian syntax and inflection are different from English. Meaning one word can be a whole sentence. We punctuated every swearing that is technically a whole sentence and therefore can stand on its own grammatically. Блять - fuck Пошел нахуй. - fuck you  Хуй - dick Пизда - cunt Мы в пизде. - we are fucked / “We are stuck in the cunt.” Ебать - fuck Ахуел. - are you/they crazy?! Это пиздец. - this fucked up Мудак - asshole  Завали ебало. - shut the fuck up Сука - bitch Черт - damn Непизди. - stop fucking lying. / Cut your bullshit. Explanation of the Russian Naming System & Patronyms

The Russian naming system consists of three main elements: first name, patronymic and last name. Name: This is the first name given to a child at birth. In Russia, the names are chosen by the parents or relatives of the child. Names can be both traditional (Alexander, Anna, Ekaterina) and modern (Sofia, Victoria, Yaroslav). Patronymic: this is the second name, which reflects the child's origin from his father. Some cultures in Russia also use the mothers name. The patronymic name among Russian people arose in the 10th - 11th centuries and was used infrequently at first, but became widespread around the 16th century. It is formed by adding the suffix "-ovich" or "-aries" to the father's name. For example, if the father's name is Ivan, then his child Ivan or Ivanna will be called Ivan Ivanovich or Ivanna Ivanovna. Last name: This is a family surname that is passed down from generation to generation. It is usually assigned at birth and does not change without special circumstances. Surnames can come from various sources, such as profession, place of residence, origin, or personal characteristics. As a result, a person's full name consists of a first name, a patronymic (if applicable) and a last name, for example: Ivan Ivanovich Petrov.

How to respectfully address a person in Russian. In Russian there are two ways to address someone. Using the polite you (Вы) amd using the formal you (Ты). The choice of mode depends on how well you know the other person and whether you are superior or inferior in terms of age and social position. If you know the person's first name you refer to them by first name and patronymic. For examples: Борис Юрьевич, Ваши рабочие отлично справились с ремонтом- Boris Yurievich, your workers did a great job with repairs. Adults never address a person by name, only by surname or patronymic unless the addressee gives permission to address them in an informal manner. Regulations of most military require their members address each other in formal you( Вы ); subordinates address commanders as товарищ (comrade) + rank , while higher ups address subordinates by military rank and surname. This is pretty short but I wanted to write something.

Another warning for spoilers just in case you missed the first 3.

"Just another job bonnie and then a’ll be back with ye and the wee one, yeah?" Johnny looked into your eyes, his heart aching at the pain he caused you from leaving.

"You promise?" Your voice shaky as your hands grip his shirt tightly.

Johnny's hands cupped your cheeks gently, wiping away any tears that escaped past your waterline.

He presses a gentle kiss to your lips before resting his forehead against yours. "Promise."

Despite his promise the night before, the tears wouldn't stop when it was finally time for him to go. Your toddler son gurgling absentmindedly, unknowing to why his mother was so tearful.

Standing by the door with your husband's coat in hand, you watch him say his goodbyes to his child.

The sight of him making silly animal noises while playing with the 2-year-old that already looked so much like him, making it hard to keep it together.

It was harder every time he left.

When the boy got tired of playing farm, he crawled off towards his blocks, leaving his father to play on his own.

Johnny lets out a chuckle before standing up and making his way over to you.

A lighthearted smile planted on his handsome face.

“Yer so, so gorgeous, Bonnie," he says, grabbing your hand, pulling you towards him.

You automatically wrap your arms around him, your damp face wetting the front of his shirt.

Johnny's arm comes around your waist while his other hand smooths over the nape of your neck.

"Am gunna miss ye so fuckin' much," he sighs, holding you tighter.

You feel yourself relax in his hold, but the moment is swiftly ruined by the beep of his watch.

"I really don't want you to go," you mutter, knowing that he had no choice in the matter.

"A ken," Johnny says, kissing the top of your head. "Am gunna be late." He finally pulls away, taking his jacket from your hand.

"Goodbye, Johnny, we'll be waiting," you say, already missing his embrace. "No' goodbye, a'll see ye later," Johnny gives you a last kiss before leaving.

If only it was "see you later."

Weeks later, you find yourself crumbling to the ground when a flag is presented to you.

The uniformed man at your door wasn't even audible past your cries.

There was a deep sickness you felt in your stomach, a nausea that bubbled in the back of your throat.

Feeling a hand on your back rubbing soothing circles, you felt yourself calm down. "I'm sorry for your loss…" his voice was soft and held a guilty undertone.

Nothing could have ever prepared you for the agony that was burning through your chest. You'd assume it was akin to a burning knife being pressed into your heart.

Your sadness never turned to anger.

There were never the 5 stages of grief.

It was just hurt, hurt everywhere.

A/N:

I actually cried for hours after playing the campaign.

COD is literally so shit and they literally made a horrible campaign Johnnys death aside.

Nothing made after MWII is canon for me I literally don’t fucking care.

What they did was not good for the story regardl of if it’s a remake.

They aren’t even following the original so them following ever characters death doesn’t matter.

I’m just pissed that they really just gave us bullshit with a shock factor death to take the fucking cake for worst game campaign ever.

Anyways I hoped you all enjoyed I’ll be writing fluff later on to compensate for this.

Call of Duty 3 Story Spoilers ahead

I gotta say I got mixed feelings about COD these past couple years, I haven’t bought a mainline game since 2019 and had to resort to no commentary play throughs to get the story which has been the selling point for me in the series - that and seeing my fave characters like Ghost or Price interact with their protégés always gets me in the heart given the mentor dynamic I adore. I know these games are more about the multiplayer aspect to sell skins and animations yadda yadda but campaign is my favorite about them. Learning the 3 hour total time for it was a let down, learning its 3 hours if you dont skip the cutscenes made me even sadder. I’m also aware that this is a rebooting/re-imagining of these events and story moments would inevitably be changed - THAT being said all build up of Ghost and Soap was so good, they played off each-other so fucking well, it was such a believable friendship and mentorship. It held weight to me even if it wasn’t the intention it felt like it could have been expanded upon or deepened and given some more stakes. Ghost’s past reactions to Soap being in trouble or hurt were cold yeah, thats a given their occupation - you gotta be ready to turn off those emotions and get the job done but wtf was Soap’s death??? Wtf were they doing while Makarov ran up to them? Why the FUCK didn’t Ghost have more of a reaction? I know I answered my own question but why was that the answer? I expected some real heavy shit, I expected an authentic character break or at-least slip up. I know they will continue to follow the story with variations - I just hope those variations are explored and given depth. Im not saying I need 40 missions of Ghost sitting around mopping or the other hand of him just killing indiscriminately but I would like Ghost to have some soft character moments and yeah that goes against the uncaring un-phased chad bro character some of the fans make him out to be IDK MAN i’m just a dumb guy

i’m tired of seeing a certain type of trope written in cod fics. “you’re so much smaller” “you’re petite” “he runs his fingers through your hair” “your waist fits perfectly in his hands”. SHUT THE HELL UP.

i have read my fair share of cod and there is a very KNOWN fact that a majority of the fanfics are written with a specific type of person in mind. skinny white women. and even if there are plus size women involved, they’re still white.

“then don’t read it.” “just block it.” do you have any IDEA how many fics would be left if i blocked or ignored every tag/creator that cater to those tropes??? and don’t even dare say it’s my fault i have no imagination and that fics are meant as ‘escapism’ so i should be able to see myself as the insert because i KNOW that. but i’m not going to fucking imagine myself as a petite, slim 4’10 chick with pin straight hair who fits perfectly into price’s arms. fucking might as well imagine them as an oc.

and if u don’t agree w this then ur obviously part of the ‘target market’ so.
