Hi, do you think celebrities can queerbait? Like pretend to be bit gay just to keep fans interested or something? Some people believe camila is actually straight and she is just being gay at times so Camren fans can buy her music, idk…this is really upsetting to me.

Oh they absolutely can. t.A.T.u. is the example that everyone brings up in this debate, but I find them to be the exception and not the norm. Most of the time when an artist engages in queer flagging that others perceive as "queerbaiting," they end up coming out eventually. In fact, several openly queer artists have discussed dropping hints in their art pre-coming out hoping people would pick up on them (Lil Nas X, Dove Cameron, Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees, etc.). The most recent example of this, of course, is Billie Eilish.

Personally, I give the benefit of the doubt to artists who incorporate queer aesthetics into their work. I default to believing that they're queer signaling instead of queerbaiting not just because the former happens more often, but also I'd rather help them feel accepted by their community than ostracize them or invalidate their queer identity when they so clearly want to be noticed. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but I'm willing to take that chance because I just wouldn't feel good about refusing to even consider the possibility of their queerness.

As for Camila, like I always say, my biggest reason for believing she's queer is her music, not just because she waves around rainbow flags and is super touchy with women.
