Summary: “Don’t pull that out!” Wen Qing yells, and she is right to do so. Wei Wuxian already has one hand on the shaft sticking out of his abdomen. His eyes are glazed over and his mouth is slack with shock, but he obeys anyway, lifting both of his hands and letting them drop to his sides. All he does is blink a few times. “Ah…, I’ve been stuck before. It’s not even that deep.” “Wei Wuxian!” He takes one step and half of another before his legs simply stop working and fold beneath him. An unexpected attack on the fringes of the Burial Mounds reminds Wen Qing how thin the thread holding their lives together truly is and just how easily it could be snipped. Pushed to the very fringes of the world she once knew and made to rely on someone else, her healer's hands no longer feel so clean. Kay's comments: This story is marked as a canon divergence, but I would even categorize it as a canon compliant story, since it's more slice of life than anything else. Absolutely devastating slice of life, that's for sure, but ultimately not changing how canon plays out. Set during the Burial Mounds Settlement days, Wei Wuxian gets attacked and poisoned and we take a good look at Wen Qing and her relationship with him. There's also some implied Wangxian, but since it's a story from Wen Qing's POV, it's pretty subtle. hauntedotamatone is a favourite author of mine and I love the way he writes the Yiling siblings and the Burial Mounds Settlement Days in particular. It's just really beautiful and hard-hitting writing. Excerpt: Like this. it’s easy to forget that he is little more than a boy, just a year or so older than A-Ning. They call him Laozu, but his face is bare and the only signs of age on him are a few prematurely silver hairs and dark rings beneath his eyes. It is easy to forget that she is not much older. The rest of the afternoon is spent clearing away the rocks and dry brush. Wen Qing uses a knife to cut away the dead vines and old, twisted roots. She isn’t one for treating her tools roughly and it’s not that it doesn’t bother her, but it’s safe to say she won’t be performing so many procedures that she’ll need this particular one. She has others and what’s needed most now is farm work, not surgery. Her little brother heaves rocks out of the way and Wei Wuxian goes between the two of them, lifting things he should probably not be lifting and tilling the soil in small batches to examine it. No further music is needed, but she notices that whenever she picks her head up to keep an eye on the nearby wards, his eyes are already on them, hands still in the dirt. There have been no attempts by any living or hostile beings to cross the barrier, but that does not mean it won’t happen.

Author's Notes: I binged all two seasons of Tokyo Revengers within the past two weeks and I'm OBSESSED with Mitsuya! He is absolutely husband material, so I was inspired to write this, I hope you like it! It's my first time writing a female original character, but I'm keeping it formatted like a reader-insert because I genuinely enjoy writing in that style. Heads up, she does have a name and a few distinct qualities - she has hair and is chubby (similar to me!), but it's not the main focus of the story. Chapter 1: Cut From the Same Cloth - Takashi Mitsuya has always lived his life being true to himself. Despite being the proud Second Division Captain of the notorious Tokyo Manji Gang, he never hides the softer side of him: He cares deeply for his two younger sisters and enjoys spending his free time sewing. When a classmate, Hana Shimizu, approaches him, asking for lessons in sewing, he agrees, not seeing any downsides to having some company.

Chapter 2: On Pins and Needles - Hana babysits Luna and Mana for the first time. Mitsuya catches up with Draken before attending a short, but tumultuous Toman meeting at Musashi Shrine.

Chapter 3: A Stitch Ahead - Mitsuya is asked to create jackets for the newly appointed captains, to which he reluctantly agrees. When the deadline arrives and he still hasn’t finished, he enlists your aid to help him complete his task. The same day, the two of you make dinner together for his sisters, leaving Mitsuya with a lasting impression.

Chapter 4: Cute as a Button - Mitsuya skips a session of sewing lessons, attempting to keep his distance after realizing his growing feelings for you. You’re left wondering where you stand with him, confused by his behavior the last time you saw him. Soon enough, you both realize that these feelings are too intense to ignore.

Chapter 5: Bursting at the Seams - You and Mitsuya make your newly blossomed relationship official. To commemorate this special occasion, he invites you to his house for breakfast, where you meet his mother. 

Chapter 6: Heart on a Sleeve - You and Mitsuya make your budding relationship public and things only continue to grow from there. The Tokyo Manji gang successfully absorbs the Leviathans all thanks to the efforts of new captains Tetta Kisaki and Shuji Hanma. Despite Mikey’s praise for them during this month’s meeting, Mitsuya remains wary of the two. His suspicions only increase when he runs into them while on a date with you. 

Chapter 7: Reap What You Sew - A dinner with you, Mitsuya, and your parents quickly goes south. Mitsuya makes a decision that could lead to dire consequences. 

Chapter 8: Hanging by a Thread - After leaving the Tokyo Manji Gang, Mitsuya feels like his life is on the right track. They have their fearless leader Mikey back to his usual self and Mitsuya’s relationship with Hana grows stronger day by day. They graduate, ready for the next big step in their lives. But with everything said and done, the past will always haunt the brothers of Toman, for better and for worse.

15. hello! i have yet another hyper-specific itmf request, so no worries if nobody has any recs lol. i'm looking for any fics that involve a character having to relearn how to communicate with others. like, (re)learning how to speak mandarin or how to act "normal." recovery fics also might count? i've recently realized this is a type of fic i really like for some reason so i'm looking for more! any setting is fine :)

this is weird enough that i want to explain it just to be clearer, so,,,, some examples in fics i've read are: zombie wei wuxian, whose mental faculties are only just coming online after being braindead (in A Corpse Called By Name); and wei wuxian being displaced in time, forced to learn modern mandarin instead of the ancient language he speaks (in The Shade of Old Trees). i know this next one isn't a mdzs fic, but another example would be xie lian in A Long And Slow Recovery, in which he just got out of the coffin and is struggling to act human and recover fully.
