shout out to all the systems that formed from “unusual” trauma or trauma that's never talked about in this community - being bullied, sibling abuse or abuse from someone that's not your parent, near death experience(s), medical abuse, and anything and everything else
you're all valid. the child's brain is incredibly fragile and everyone is traumatized differently. just because your trauma wasn't from a parent, doesn't make you any less valid.
i wish more people spoke about the other sources of trauma

The moods sitting in the back of my head watching me: "No, no, they've got a point"

tbh the funniest thing being a system whos known for abt 6 years now is that you go from hyper categorizing everyone into really specific roles to like.

C-DID culture is not remembering 90% of my life and then thinking my trauma wasn't that bad (spoiler: it was)

reminder that you don't exactly need more trauma to split alters
the brain forms alters as it needs, if there is something that the system cannot handle or there is a gap in who is filling their needs then an alter can be split
every alter exists for a reason, even if it seems like there is none
(this doubly applies to polyfrag and autistic systems)

Advice for newer discovered systems:
A hard truth you might not want to hear: but sometimes you need to put finding things out about the system on the back burner. Sometimes you will need to just push it to the side and come back to it later. This is something I've seen other systems also express before as well.
Think you have a new alter, but you have an important school assignment to do? The alter can wait. Unless they decide to make their presence everyone's business, just leave it be and go looking for them after you do the assignment
Think you have a subsystem, but have life to be doing? You can come back to that topic when you have free time. It isn't that important at the moment
Worried because you haven't heard from an alter for awhile? Don't drop everything to try and get them to front. Just go about your day and they'll come back when they're needed
Think you're splitting? Just take some pain meds for the headache if you need and go about your day. You can figure out who split when you have more time.
Basically, don't drop everything because you want to find out about something. Don't obsess over it to the point you can't function in daily life or get stressed over it. These things will be learned when it is time. Stop trying to check all these imaginary boxes immediately.
Seriously, we've known about the system for about 4 years and we still don't know shit about how things work half the time. And we only take a look into things when we have a chance to. Our job and life are a bit more important than figuring out who the hell might be in this newly revealed layer and stuff like that. We know the time will come to learn. It just isn't right now

symptom holders don't have to be constantly, miserably affected by their symptoms (same goes for trauma holders and memories)
protectors don't have to be constantly on edge and hostile
caretakers don't have to constantly be gentle and patient
persecutors don't have to constantly hate & hurt
socializers can be bad at or avoid socializing
we are complex, we are not always the way our roles are viewed, we are also not JUST our roles in a system, we are allowed to be contradictory.

Yet another thing I don't see talked about in the DID community: the host anxiety of letting go of front.
Obviously it doesn't happen to every system, as some systems don't even have a host; but can we talk about the fear and anxiety about potentially never coming back to front if you fully let go, as a host? I dealt with it for a year and a half until I was able to actually start letting go and sitting off front for long periods of time. But there were times when 5 minutes off front fully caused me panic attacks.
This fear especially comes when you are a baby (newly discovered) system. This feeling that you built a life for yourself, and suddenly, you feel like you'll lose it to other people. And it's not that you want it all for yourself, but losing it entirely is what's scary. And there is usually a whole inner world behind you... who knows what happens inside of it, what it can do, who lives there? As well as, it's scary to let go of control of events IRL. Who knows how others would handle it, even if you know them well already?
And that's just our reasons.
Moral of the story: y'all are not alone, and it gets better.

Being a caregiver, I realized that one of the best ways to help somebody without freaking them out even more is by rephrasing your questions and offerings in a way that would give them the choice to choose. It should he obvious that when you ask, for example, "Can I give you a hug?" you are offering a choice, but that's not the case for people who are freaking out or blacking out. It's way better to ask, "Would you like me to give you a hug?" or "Do you want a hug?" instead.
Same with:
⛔️ Can I hold your hand? | ✅️ Do you want to hold my hand?/Do you want me to hold your hand?
⛔️ How can I help? | ✅️ What would you like me to do to help?
⛔️ Can I do X? | ✅️ Do you want me to do X?/Would you be okay if I did X?
⛔️ Can I see? | ✅️ Am I allowed to see?
The more you state it in the sentence that it's in the person's abilities to turn you down, the better. First sentence matters. People who are actively freaking out or blacked out would not care for a long and complicated explanation as to why you said what you said. They most likely can barely hear anything at the moment. And can barely understand anything that's happening around them.
