Some nights I stay awake starring at the ceiling wondering why I ruin everything and feel like I'm not supposed to be here.

Tbh, as much as I'm happy that Heartstopper S2 will have an aroace coming out scene, I feel like the show - or perhaps, its marketing - kind of reduces it a bit. It's very ship-heavy to the point where one of the promos is features couples sharing a post rather than each character having one post each. And you can argue that it's more about audience engagement, but the audience already knows what couples they can expect - in every group shot, couples are always placed next to each other, not a soul in-between them.

Also, I'm sure I've mentioned it before and I know someone else said it, but having the one aroace character be removed from his friends somewhat equates aroaceness with introversion and friendlessness. You can say that Tao is a prick for talking about friends abandoning him while Issac is right there; you can also say that Issac is a prick for not getting more involved in his friends' business. The most support Issac shows is encouraging Charlie's crush on Nick but he never really talks to Charlie about seeing them in the nurse's room, nor does he show anything about Charlie and Tao's argument; he says that Tao doesn't want to talk to Charlie in a sad voice, but you could just remove Issac and you'd still get the same point across - there's no offering of an alternative perspective, which doesn't make Issac 'unproblematic', it makes him a blank slate and boring.

Tao can be called overbearing, insecure and hot-headed, but he is not by any means boring or a blank slate. He has clear motivations - he doesn't want to be alone, he doesn't want his friends (Charlie and Elle, seeing as Issac is not really a character) to get hurt again - which make him act accordingly as a(n over)protective friend who puts his self-worth in his friendships. Issac being detached from his friends doesn't have to be bad character writing, but we don't get any scenes where he really reacts to what's happening around him (other than how the audience is expected to react). He literally does not exist without one of the other main characters around. What exactly is going to happen to him after his coming out? Hell, how many of the other characters' arcs are going to be really distinct?

something we have discussed is how dennis was the only one who could understand mac and that's great but can we also discuss how it must feel for mac that no one can understand him

this seems to be accentuated by how off he keeps being about things (offering of war/dennis being shot being "awesome"/being unable to read subtext both with dennis ["figure of speech"] and donald) and how much he's looking for a sense of meaning that he used to find in his identity until s15 made him realize how pointless it was (in a way that reminds me of his crisis in goes to hell 2...), but legacy, history, money and prizes are worth nothing if your heart is not in it.

and in a way I think dennis is coming to the same conclusion which is why he's the only one who can understand mac.

dennis "you're just being honest about how you feel" reynolds, so concerned with authenticity and upset by the perceived lies when it's just his own denial making it that way. that's building the biggest lie of all.

if we're looking for the Point, then the point is to have fun and embrace feelings. Big Mo already showed this.

it's interesting to me how it seems that mac and dennis are working off of each other in the way sunny works as a whole. because if mac is the structure and the text, and dennis is the subtext and the jokes (it's how he's trying to communicate in inflates but it's also the whole reason he comes with mac in madbu), they kinda NEED to be working together for the show to work... they need to find their harmonies, they can't just one or the other lead, they gotta have each other's back.

and also like, a small coda. this season deals so much with nostalgia vs how the past really was, there's so many flashbacks.

becoming aware of denial and reality can feel really upsetting but ultimately it's a positive development.

if "the hair is a lie" chopping off the head isn't the answer, that was the old way of doing things (in times of war... murder, betrayal, beheadings... "we figured out what works a long time ago"), but now we're looking for peace. basically, death isn't the answer. building your legacy doesn't have to be like pulling teeth. "this doesn't have to be a scam"

it's a good thing if we start seeing things for what they actually are, because it means less denial.

I’be recently started reading “Solitare” by Alice Oseman, and it’s making me think that it’s interesting that her most famous work is heartstopper.

I think what makes it interesting is that this book, and like “I was born from this” , or even “Loveless” deal with a reality that seems less romanticized (?) then heartstopper?

Alright, uh. Screw it. Let's dust off this account. I was embarrassed about even drawing this, and especially about sharing it publicly, but I'm slapping it up here. Why not. Been extremely burnt out lately, doing art professionally has pretty much killed my desire to do art for the sake of enjoying it (sorry, fans of my dead comic). Mental health has been shoddy. Actual health is eh, as well. I've been too busy to really think and have been so guilty about there being so much stuff to do in my life still that I haven't really afforded myself time to relax or unwind. My enthusiasm for anything has been in the dumps for years. I don't think I've drawn more than a handful of fanart pieces in over a decade (what you see on here is pretty much it), and I've certainly never drawn something like... this. Obviously, I watched Hazbin finally (didn't even realize the show was an actual thing now, though I did love the pilot eons ago; I don't tend to traverse into fandom discussion and discourse so I've been out of the loop). I'm actually nearing double-digit rewatches... and the OST has been on repeat for weeks. Well animated, beautifully written adult cartoons? I'm here for it. Musicals? Oh yeeahhhhh! I'm ace as hell, but wholesome, loving, devoted relationships like this in fiction seem to hit me right at my core. I also cry at heartwarming videos and movies, but that's beside the point... I just... hrrrnnnnggg... Charlie and Vaggie's relationship has SENT ME. It has an iron grip on my soul and I cannot stop it. I feel like i'm 14 years old again. I want to write fanfiction. Is it 2004?? Where am I????? What the fffffasdfasfagghfgfjhdd????????!!!! Aannnyyyyywayyyy.... This art gave me stomach butterflies the entire time I worked on it, as well as an immense amount of joy, and I really hope this can maybe do that for others.
