Buck x Eddie (Buddie)

Pride kisses week one day two : surprised kisses

First time writing for them (＾∀＾)

Totally didn't post it early by accident, but got it finished! Kinda rushed

It was Buck's first Pride since coming out. He was excited! He's been to several of them over the years with childhood friends and then with Hen and the others. However, it was different this time. He wasn't just going as an ally this time.

Buck stood in front of the mirror, checking himself over. He was dressed like usual but now with a bisexual Pride shirt and his curls more prominent. He knew to dress simple because he'd always get several pins and more while there. It was basically tradition at this point. Especially with Chris. He couldn't help but to get him whatever he wanted. He loved to spoil the kid (even if Eddie scolded him for it).

After sending a text confirming where they were all meeting up at, Buck grabbed his keys and headed out.

The pride parades always went by the station, so he knew to park there. It was the easiest place for the 118 family to meet up at.

"Buck!"

He turned just in time to catch an arm full of Christopher. He ruffled the boy's hair. "Hey Chris. See you've already found the facepaint booth." He laughed, glancing at the tiger on Chris's cheek. He glanced back up, feeling eyes on them. Eddie was smiling at them as he approached, the rest of the team not to far behind.

Buck couldn't decode the look on Eddie's face but Hen could. She shared a look with Chimney and Karen. "$10 bucks it happens today." She whispered to the other two.

Eddie moved towards Buck and Chris (the three completely unaware to what was happening).

"C'mon Buck! Come get facepaint too!"

Eddie felt a warm feeling settling in him as he watched Chris try to tug Buck along. It looked like an eager kid pulling their dad along (who pretended to be annoyed but was clearly happy with it). Huh. That thought again. He chose to ignore it and kept moving behind the two.

"Dad, you should get paint too! You can match with Buck!"

Eddie wasn't sure about it at first, but after seeing the double puppy dog eyes, he couldn't say no. "Alright, alright. I'll do it." He sat down across from Buck.

Chris knew Buck was doing a bi flag rainbow, so he chose a simple rainbow for his dad. "Matching."

The two men looked at their faces in the mirror. Bucky's was on his right cheek, and Eddie had his on the left. "Yep, matching." Buck repeated, cheeks warming beneath the paint.

The two men carried on through enjoying the parade and different booths with Chris Buck buying whatever caught Chris's attention, much to Eddie's dismay (Eddie knew they needed to talk about that).

"Dad I'm hungry."

Eddie ruffled Chris's hair. "How about we get pizza and head home? I might let you stay up a little later to play video games with Buck."

Chris easily agreed. They regrouped with everyone else and took a few pictures before going their separate ways. They decided to leave Buck's jeep at the station, and he rode back with Eddie and Chris.

The night was filled with pepperoni pizza, ice cream, and video games. With Eddie complaining about losing (repeatedly) to Buck. Eventually the night came to an end. The two men got Chris ready for bed, Buck ruffling his hair one last time. "Night buddy."

The two quietly left Chris's room. As they worked together cleaning up the living room, Eddie spoke up. "Thank you, Evan."

Buck paused, glancing at Eddie. "Huh? What for?"

Eddie shrugged, a small grin on his lips. "For being you. All that you do for Chris, for me. I appreciate it. Appreciate you."

He stepped closer, leaving barely any space between them. "You're amazing, Evan Buckley and I don't tell you enough." He took a chance, leaning down to kiss Buck's cheek. "Night Buck." He patted his shoulder once before disappearing down the hall to his room.

Buck stood there in shock, cheeks red. Oh fuck, he needed to talk to Hen. He dialed her number quickly. He didn't even let her speak.

"Eddie kissed me!"

Eddie: Hey buddy listen it’s okay. You don’t have to play chess just because your grandpa loves it okay. We love you and me and your dad support you in whatever you decide to do, no matter what.”/Chris: thanks dads.

I find it very fascinating that Eddie continuously chooses to get parenting advice from the only person in his friend group who is not a parent 🫣 It’s almost as if he, himself, thinks of Buck as his co-parent… 🤭🤭🤭

do y'all ever think about the fact that bobby is literally chris' grandpa? like yeah, bobby is a father figure to buck. but buck is also chris' second dad.

that's a dynamic i am reminded of whenever i see eddie and bobby interact outside of the fire station and it's a dynamic that should be explored more overall.

like i can imagine him pulling chris to the tightest hug and then kneeling to meet chris’s eyes like eddie does (bcs theyre such dads) and just hold his shoulders and say along the lines of “buddy! look how much you’ve grown! oh i’ve missed you so much!” while trying not to cry, maybe with his stutter bcs hes an emotional blubber of mess at that point

chris is half exasperated teenager half fond because buck keeps pulling him into hugs and looking at his face over and over! but also he lowkey misses him too (and he’ll say it with the softest voice half embarrased by the emotions he’s feeling)

I can see it now...

Now that Chris is gone and his relationships with Marisol and Kim are over, Eddie is struggling to keep himself together and decides to stop dating while also trying to figure himself out after everything that happened.

All the while, Buck constantly checks in on him to make sure he's alright and even goes as far as to stay over at his place so that he doesn't wake up by himself. And now that Gerrard is captain and is making their shifts miserable, that becomes a common occurrence. And around the same time, Buck and Tommy are going through a rough patch because of him cancelling plans to check on Eddie and how Tommy wants Buck to act around Gerrard, which ultimately leads to them breaking up.

Then down the line, Eddie and Buck start to become closer than ever and Eddie comes to the conclusion that his relationships never worked out because he was trying to make a family with the wrong person when the whole time, he already had a family with the right person, which was Buck. At the same time, Buck starts to catch feelings for Eddie but is afraid to act on them partly out of fear and mainly because he doesn't want to take advantage of him when he's still missing Chris.

But eventually, Eddie just goes "fuck it" and finally kisses Buck, who has no qualms about kissing him back...

...and then, Chris walks through the door.

i think why buck and chris relationship is so important to me because yes i understand eddie loves chris without conditions, that’s his son. he’s an amazing father. that’s his own flesh and blood. he tries to do right by him. he is doing right. his love for him is enormous, it transcends everything in his life.

chris is his life. there’s no doubt about it. i can definitely understand a parent’s love. how protective he is of christopher. but buck? buck isn’t his flesh and blood, buck has only known this kid when he was seven. and i do not attempt to say that he loves chris just as much as eddie (maybe to eddie he does) (nobody will fight for my son as hard as you) BUT he loves him in his own unconditional way. he’s an amazing person in chris’ life. he tries to do right by him. takes note of everything, listens to every detail and makes it happen for chris. his love for him is enormous, it also transcends things in his life.

he took this kid in and loved him in such a way it seems paternal. it seems familial. it seems like he wants to take him in, take him as his own and he has. he doesn’t seem to have any relationship close to it. and there’s this want that makes me visceral. to want to continue doing this, doing life, doing cupcakes and homework and going to the zoo.

it’s one thing for a step parent to love their step kid, that’s a wonderful thing on its own, but in canon buck and eddie aren’t together. and they only show this type of relationship with them. like!!!

the fact that eddie and maddie have never interacted outside a group setting is so funny actually. you cannot tell me those two wouldnt get on like a house on fire. i fear the day we get a solo maddie and eddie scene is the day we get buddie canon

From now on, I'm just going to refer to Buck as a mother figure and let people fight me on that one because I'm curious to see whether the fact that he never lactated for Chris will count against him.

Buck, Eddie and Christopher finally reunited with their family at last. Just so you all remember you don’t find it son, you make it! They sure have made it together over the last seven years!

i will not stand here and say the quarry's writing is perfect by any means, but man. that moment. in the beginning. when chris absolutely loses his shit and you see every last one of the hacketteers freeze..............shocked, wide-eyed, so taken aback they don't move even to look at each other.............

and then, realizing what just happened, chris scrambles frantically to grab hold of the situation again. he tries to grin at ryan ("tries" being the keyword), he tosses him the keys like nothing's wrong. he tries to go back to being mr. h - he does, he tries so hard - and finally when ryan talks to him, there's what waver in his voice. that absolute lack of understanding in his eyes. ryan's not just surprised, he's not just shocked......for a second there, he is scared, and chris sees that, realizes it, and peels out of there before anyone can say anything else. just.....

JUST............

i think that moment is 100% the moment i realized UH OH I THINK I LOVE CHRIS HACKETT because that's when we see the counselors have been around this guy for two whole months (some of them even longer, possibly), and not once. not once!!!!!!!!!!! had they realized who he really was.

In my honest opinion...

I truly don't see Chris staying in Texas past the summer, let alone start the new school year there. This isn't even me being a Buclkey-Dia family truther or me being on my anti-Diaz parents vendetta, but just because...

...it's Texas.
