Librarians Against Clause 28
Section 28 legislation [Clause 27/28] was introduced in 1988 to ban the "promotion of homosexuality" in the UK. Schools and councils were unable to provide young LGBTQ+ people with help. This homophobic legislation was partly introduced following the outcry over "Jenny Lives with Eric and Martin" being available to schoolchildren in Haringey. This picture book described the life of five-year-old Jenny, her father Martin, and his boyfriend Eric who lives with them. There was also increasing homophobia in the mainstream press due to the AIDS crisis and, when Margaret Thatcher spoke at the 1987 Conservative Party Conference, she declared how children were "being taught that they have an inalienable right to be gay" and "all of those children are being cheated of a sound start in life". Section 28 was finally repealed on 21 June 2001 in Scotland and on 18 November 2003 in the rest of the UK.

I love and cherish this entire interview
David Tennant interview at the British LGBT Awards, June 2024 (x)
Int: You being an ally to the community isn't something new. You've been doing it, but recently you've obviously really stepped up for trans and non-binary people in a time that's so, so needed. What made you do that?
David: I don't know that I feel like I've done anything that I wouldn't just sort of be normally doing. I mean, it's for me it's just common sense that there's there should be any suggestion that people aren't allowed to live the life they want to live and and to be who they want to be with and to express themselves wholeheartedly. I mean, as long as you aren't hurting anybody else, everybody else just needs to fucking butt out. I don't really understand why...
Int: ...it's controversial.
David: Yeah, there is and the thing... the thing, if there's something that's particularly sobering and depressing, it's that certain debates are being weaponized by certain elements of the political class, often for no... it seems it's not ideological so much as opportunistic. And I just think that's pretty disgusting, really.
Int: I couldn't agree more. What message would you like to send out to trans youth?
David: Please don't feel like you're not loved and that you're not accepted and that you're not... you know, most people in the world are good and kind and just want you to be able to be who you are. Most people in the world don't really care. I mean... you know what I mean?
Int: We're all narcissistic.
David: Exactly. Everyone's so self obsessed that really, the sort of noise that comes from a certain area of the press and of the political class is... it's a minority. It really is. And please don't let that make you feel diminished or dissuaded or discouraged, because, you know, you just... you have to be allowed to be yourself, and you are, and you are yourself and you must thrive and flourish, and we're all here for it.
Int: Amazing. I think, yeah, it's so important .I think sometimes it feels like there's so many people, but it is a minority. It's such a minority.
David: It's a tiny bunch of little whinging fuckers that are on the wrong side of history and they'll all go away soon.
Int: Like what happened with gay people 20 years ago.
David: When I was a kid, when I was a kid, exactly. You know, I was at school when Clause 28 came in and it all felt like being gay was something to be terrified of. And gay men in particular were demonised as paedophiles and now that just feels historic and ludicrous and, I mean, I don't see all those... all those battles aren't won, but we're in a very, very different place. And I feel like.I feel like history is on a progressive trajectory and it might get knocked sideways now and again by people for all sorts of reasons, which are often quite selfish and quite, as I say, not coming from a place of any sort of genuine belief system, but other than a place of opportunism. And that's something that we... I hope that in 20 years time, we're talking about, you know, these culture wars as something of the past.
Int: I believe we will. I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, so.
David: Oh, good, me too!
Int: You are my Doctor.
David: Oh, thank you very much.
Int: But recently, obviously, you came back for the 60th anniversary and you got to work with Yasmin Finney.
David: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Int: What was it like working with her?
David: Oh, she's brilliant. She's fantastic. Yeah. And she's in the show again now, she's back in it, so that's fantastic to see. She's lovely, talented, cool as a cucumber, articulate, brilliant. I learned a lot from her as an actor and also as someone who, you know, who's become a sort of de facto activist just because of who she is and where she is, and she become sa sort of symbol of hope, and she's wonderful.

I mentioned before on here about how every character in the game can confront their abuser and how Wyll ends up standing there in the end game camp sandwiched between his father and Mizora and how upsetting this is. It is so bizarre to me how Wyll cannot critique his father nor can he be encouraged to do so when his method of self harm is performing acts of self sacrificing heroism (and depending on how you wanna read it as well, the dissociative title of ‘blade of frontiers’) Like that’s odd considering how repeatedly the Flaming Fist are explicitly shown to be both bigoted and corrupt. It’s shit writing imo. Humbly. But Mizora is such a mess like to me she’s actually kind of more interesting when presented in relation to Karlach because there’s this pathetic, petty jealousy Mizora shows towards Karlach in relation to Zariel. Towards Wyll, Mizora is more presented as cruel for the sake of cruel, the cruelty is the point. And I know she’s a demon etc but instead of the driving point of Wyll’s storyline being to emancipate himself from his father’s expectation and Mizora’s abuse, we barely get acknowledgment in game that Wyll is a victim of grooming and abuse by Mizora. We can’t label her a weird pervert tryhard oh but we can fuck her. It’s that weird paradox of white womanhood (dont fucking say to me Mizora isn’t white, she’s clearly modelled on a white woman) wherein she’s objectified and sexualised (and therein is regarded as toothless) but equally isn’t seen as capable of acts of grooming, abuse violence etc because of this proximity to the weakness and passivity associated with white womanhood (also how theres a refusal to believe a white woman CAN abuse a black man etc etc (despite history stating otherwise)) It’s just a royal shit show from start to finish. I mean this, Larian should be deeply ashamed of Wyll’s writing and character arc. Also having his evil ending being parallel to Gortash, a slave trader, is shameful

Hi, Mr. Gaiman.
I’m writing to you as an (ftm) trans minor who is honestly scared.
I live in the U.S., and the current state of politics is completely absurd. There have been 617 anti trans bills in 2024 alone, despite the fact that we make up at most 5% of the U.S. population.
The reason I am writing to you is to ask for support. I often see celebrities refuse to talk about trans rights or ignore the subject entirely, purely out of fear of public backlash. I hope you can understand that we are, quite frankly, under political attack from the right, and public backlash should be the least of anyone’s concern. Our entire identities are being politicized and demonized, and I think myself (and other trans people) really just need a moral boost to help us through this.
Thank you for your time.
Hang in there. I'm sorry this is happening, and I'm sorry that it's not easier for any of you.
If you can vote, vote for politicians who are less likely to support anti-trans legislation.
In the UK this reminds me so much of what happened in the 80s with Clause 28 and the demonization of Gay people under the guise of "supporting families".
History will be on your side. For now, hang in there.

A 10 day timeline of statements by Christian Horner and Helmut Marko in the lead up to keeping Perez
- July 19, Hungarian GP FP | Horner: "I think he's been in a bit of a headspin the last the last few races, but hopefully today were the signs that he's coming out of that - and the team are working very hard with him to support him and make sure that he does re-find his form, because we desperately need it." [source: Sky Sport F1]
- July 19, Hungarian GP FP2 | Helmut is asked to confirm if Perez has performances clauses in his contract that can be triggered by summer break: "There are various forms of performance clauses and, ultimately, it doesn't matter what a contract looks like, you just have to perform.” + “We'll have a look at the two races and then we'll sit down together to decide what and how things will continue after the summer break."
Helmut is asked who the favourite is among Ricciardo, Tsunoda and Lawson to replace Perez, he replies: "That was a nice question. I'll give a nice answer: everything is open." [source: ORF]
- July 20, Hungarian GP post-quali | Horner: "I think I have shown that I am very patient, but this was really the last thing he and the team needed. We now have to get everything back together, repair the car and see what we can get out of it during the race.”
Asked about Perez’s future, Horner replies: "Any discussions we have with him will of course take place internally and not in front of the media. But of course we can't run on one leg." [Racingnews365]
- July 24, commenting about Hungarian GP | Helmut: “It was a typical grand prix weekend for Perez: unpredictable. He continues to have this up and down, nobody knows when he will shine or when he will make a mistake, he simply lacks consistently good performance.” [source: Speedweek]
- July 26, Belgian GP Free Practice | Horner: "Checo’s future is in his hands. He has to have a good weekend, because we need his points for the constructors’ championship and McLaren has recovered a lot in the last races." [source: FormulaPassion Italia]
- July 27, Belgian GP pre-quali | Helmut: “Sergio knows that for the constructors' championship we have to have both cars ahead of McLaren if possible, and that hasn't been the case in the last few races”
When asked to set a specific goal for Perez, Marko refuses: “No, the goal is to win both the drivers' and constructors' championships, and we'll discuss the best way to achieve that on Monday [the 29th].” [source: Motorsport.com]
- July 27, Belgian GP post-quali | Helmut: “But it’s great to see Sergio, who has really improved. He will start on the front row due to the relegation and now things are looking much better again.” [source: Motorsport.com]
- July 28, Belgian GP post-race | Helmut: "Sergio had the opportunity to achieve a good result from second place. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Especially in the last stint, he completely collapsed, driving 1:48 times. What looked so positive in qualifying unfortunately didn't come true in the race." [source: Sky Germany]
- July 29, Red Bull Racing factory, Milton Keynes | Horner: "Checo remains a Red Bull Racing driver, despite all the speculation of late. We look forward to seeing him perform on circuits where he has done well before”

all pix and info above found here along with downloadable mp3 of the bootlegged tracks
im unsure if this bootleg is graham's one, but at 1:59 of the first track you can hear someone asking if the person recording is alright, they respond "yeah, you?" then there's some talk and the person recording affirms what the speaker asked saying "yeah, yeah." and. well. graham and noel met bcs noel enquired abt a copy of the tape he was recording so...still idk maybe someone w better ears than me can decode the whole convo/see if its graham and noel. ok edit: the convo includes the person saying they'll find the person recording after the gig, premusably to exchange details so he can send the tape?
"I first met Noel on his 21st birthday, 29 May 1988 I think. I was bootlegging James and a horribly out of tune Stone Roses at the International Two in Manchester. He asked me for a copy of the tape, I started talking to him and he asked me if I was going to see the Inspiral Carpets later on that week. I told him I was kind of in them sort of thing.
"It turned out he was a bit of a fan after hearing us on Piccadilly Radio and he started working as a roadie for us in early 1989." --Graham Lambert (Loaded, jan 1997)

Hiya! Do you think 28 is a Larry number or just a Louis number? I feel like cuz Louis is the one who has it tattooed and a brand named after it then maybe it’s a Louis number but idk. Harry has made subtle references to it through the timing of his music but it’s definitely more associated with Louis nowadays. Just curious on your thoughts!
hey!!
i think it's a larry number, but i also think louis made it very much his own over time because if that number symbolizes something related to harry (like whatever it symbolizes for them and also personally for louis - i.e his relationship, sexuality, etc; stuff that he's proud of but a lot of people told him otherwise yk "wonder what they'd think if they could see us now") it's something i think he took from 2015 onwards with everything that happened as a symbol of resistance/love/self-identity at a certain point.
what i mean is that the 28 was consolidated as a "louis' thing" in 2015 because until that year it was something, i'd say... quite fully larry (especially after 28/09/2013 - which is debunked) but it was something that even many antis said was "ours" (larries) and had nothing to do with louis. but when he got it tattooed in 2015, exactly 3 years after getting the ship and compass tattoo with harry, that started to became his own thing.
i think the 28 must mean something about them to each other but that must be a couple of things, and im also quite inclined to think that the "section 28" (01/02/1991-18/11/2003) plays a part in the significance as well. for me 28 clothing is further evidence of it. louis has always been known in the fandom for communicating through his clothing - to give clear messages on many topics not just sexuality, and that he has named his clothing brand designed by him "28" is very symbolic. not only because of the trajectory of that number in the fandom and his life - but also because its a unisex clothing brand whose isologotype is a "white rose of york" (symbol of yorkshire... his home... again "home" and "28" hand in hand). besides... "official programme" really? seems to be a mockery of "clause in official governmental act". and while we're at it, pride is a 28.
the posts and tags show why we think 28 is a larry number. i think it's a harry thing too because come on...why else would he put 28 boops in sunflower vol6, por example? 😅
what i mean is that i understand why people are inclined to think in recent years that it's a "louis only" thing, as he was much more obvious than harry in terms of his references (ahem... a tattoo is no small thing hahshs) but i see his winks quite present. also i think the number started out as something they both created, so if it's something they wear proudly to this day - surely it must still be meaningful to both as a couple in some respect. maybe not necessarily a romantic-couple-thing, but as gay-men-going-through-a-situation-where-they-suffer-from-homophobia-together, you know?
i think louis as he had and has a very tough closeting situation (i mean he is the one who usually goes out to deny it, he has the bbg and had the beards for a long time, etc) he took it as something very much his own because he just knew it was something obvious. he knew that we fans were going to relate it easily with something larry/lgbt because from the first moment it meant that. i always believed (and i believe) that he uses it so much because it is one of those little things that he can use without anyone "noticing"... no one except us. that's why he uses it so much and for so many things. he links so many things with that number, it helps him to explain stuff because that's what it's for. his old playlist, for example, we started to analyse it strongly because it was called "28 songs". place where that number is, place where we fans put our eye very carefully and with a lgbt lens.
i think at this point i would go as far as to say that is his own pride symbol, because that's what i see when i hear him using it that much and talking about it. it's very him and i love that!

In 1983, the 1981 book Jenny Lives With Eric & Martin, by Danish author Susanne Bösche, was published in England. The book was intended for primary school children and told the story of Jenny, a little girl who lived with her father and his male lover. It was quickly banned from schools after protests from parents and politicians who feared that it might encourage children to "experiment with homosexuality".

Ten people I'd like to know better
Thanks to @maxispremades for the tag 😊
last song: Sara's Song by The Aislers Set (one of the great early 2000s bands 👍)
favourite colour: I don't have a favourite
last movie: Medusa Deluxe, murder mystery at a hairdressing competition, doesn't totally work but pretty fun
last book: Outrageous! The Story of Section 28 and Britain's Battle for LGBT Education by Paul Baker. Not a very good book, a bit too superficial but I was interested because I grew up in the shadow of Section 28 which was a clause of a government act banning the 'promotion of homosexuality' in schools (it was repealed in 2003).
sweet/spicy/savory: probably savory I think.
last googled: 小王XIAOWANG
current obsession: it's not much of an obsession but I'm slowly working my way through all Jane Austen's novels and really enjoying them, turns out they're world famous classics for a reason 🤔😁
looking forward to: if this sims related then I don't know, it's hard to play the game at the moment as it crashes all the time which I think might be more due to my ancient creaky old PC than EA nonsense strangely enough...
I'll tag @limeysims @ethicaltreatmentofcowplants @changingplumbob @satureja13 @lilacacia @kusin-tisdag @talesofsimverse @perseyhandmaiden @simsfvr @fandangoland
As always feel free to ignore if you already did this/prefer not to 😊

1930s-1940s | 1950s | 1960s-1970s | 1980s | 1990s | 2010s
Welcome to part 6 of my ultimate film watchlist. This list will consist of a lot of my favorites from childhood that I want to rewatch, as well as movies that I was much too young to watch at the time. Sometimes that didn't stop my mom from letting me sit in the living room with her while she watched them. I usually played or did my homework during these times, and was told to look away if she knew an innapropriate part of a movie was coming up. I was just happy to be with her.

I don’t really know where to direct this thought process so I’m just throwing it out here: Elon is not yet the head of the USDS, “publicly renamed” as DOGE (according to sec.3 of Trump executive order ESTABLISHING AND IMPLEMENTING THE PRESIDENT’S “DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY”). Is Musk going to be subject to the Appointments Clause which appears at Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the US Constitution and provides: “... and [the President] shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.” Does that imply that the head of USDS needs Senate confirmation? Like I know the last one was Mina Hsiang but idk what the appointment process was for the job. As of the time of this post (January 28, 2025) the position is still vacant? So Elon still ain’t shit, right?

Hey, doris have you ever encountered the Toon patrol?
Thank you for the heart racing question,
Thankfully, No. I stuck to the rules and was less rowdy than other toons. Fortunately the Toon Patrol was broken up shortly after an incident in the mid 1940s in LA that would have placed them as responsible for destroying more than half the Toon population. The major studios weren't pleased that their properties were nearly erased from existence without warning.
Not that the aftermath was much better. I mean we didn't vanish, but companies used resources from the patrol to help control their characters and for tax bonuses. Contracts and Toon registrations have a stipulation so if a character is deemed no longer financially rewarding, a threat to the company image, or subject to an over population clause, Studios can have the character erased and use them as a tax write-off.
There were protests against this, but that stopped as studios labeled Toons protesting as "A threat to the company image" and the first Toon was executed (They like saying recycled, erased, adjusted, but we called it executions. There wasn't anything we could do. IT's now common practice. Fortunately, I'm a free roaming Unlicenced Toon (UT) and not tied to a studio.
It's a scary world, and so many only see Cartoons as disposable kid's stuff.

Hapless Harold, caught after being on the run for 3 days. Organizer of the new contract protest and first Toon to be erased under studio demand.
