Whats the opposite of gothic? I'm in love with comp sci anti-gothic where it's just people being surprisingly polite and nice and funny through computers. A program's first lines are always "Hello world!". SMTP protocols apparently say "hello, pleased to meet you" to each other to establish a connection with a handshake. Python has a different version called Andaconda, which has a smaller version called miniconda. C++ is just C continuously improving on itself, because the ++ operator means to add one onto a previous value, and C# is two ++ stacked on top of each other. Lawmakers have to talk about the ethics of saving "cookies" to computers because one guy liked fortune cookies and decided to call them that. The internet itself wasn't created with security in mind because it was just meant to be a way for a group of people who trusted each other using it to send each other information, and so on, and so forth
#compeng#comp eng#computer engineering#computer science#Information Technology#studyblr#study#neon academia#university#eye contact with the abyss#It's probably just because I'm new to the whole field but it's really quite nice#I say anti gothic because instead of something normal being eerie#its something eerie (the inhumanity of computers) being surprisingly normal (people putting joke comments in code)

I'm trying to be more gentle with myself. Constantly reminding my silly mind that there's no rush. The place is here, the time is now. Make yourself some nice meals; Relearn to enjoy the things you once were curious about.

I got accepted into a University!

🎊 Exciting news: I've been accepted to one of the two universities I applied to! I really doubted that I could even get into THE university of my city since they are harder to get into with higher grades for the entry requirements, but I think I only got in because of my apprenticeship experience. For example, if I had went straight to applying at the university at age 18, I wouldn’t have gotten in. I even thought when I was younger “oh I couldn’t ever apply because that’s for the smart smart people” BUT I GOT IN and I’m not even maths smart!
So, thank you God that I studied coding when I was studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths during my last two years of school. Although I had to drop out due to health reasons, thank you God for the opportunity to learn how to build websites and explore Python while working as a call centre agent. Thank you God for the confidence to apply for an apprenticeship, even though I didn't complete my schooling! Thank you God for helping me complete the apprenticeship with a pass mark and then continue working there as their Junior Web Developer. And thank you God for helping me randomly apply to these universities and I got a place!
My journey has been filled with challenges and opportunities, and for that, I am grateful!

I am working on the second batch of exams and someone created a bogo recursive algorithm!
Their solution was to randomly generate an integer and check if that was the solution. If it wasn't they recursively called the function to try again and hope they get the correct answer before triggering a stack overflow error.
They got 1 point because their answer is technically a recursive function.

Probabilities and effective study rituals before my last final exam :))
I’ve fully claimed my boyfriends’ room while he went long boarding and I’m planning on compiling every possible set of notes I can get my hands on for this open note exam

12th December, Thursday
7:46am: I woke up at 4am, no I promise I did, but I also think I dissociated for like an hour so rip that one hour where I could've slept and/or saved the world nobody will ever know T_T
started on my electronics assignment for 2 hours after that though, thank god
the chapter I'm working on is far superior than the previous chapter, if only because my professor - who I have actual BEEF with, which is a first for me as a former ass-kisser in highschool but eh, new academic year new me - has far better lectures on Boolean Algebra than he ever did on Operational Amplifiers, which I still need to make time to self study because I barely passed the first Internal 💀
in other news, it hasn't hit me yet that the eras tour has ended but at the same time I'm also having withdrawals? its very confusing lol but we cope with the movie as usual 👍 don't smile because it happened, baby cry because its overrr
aight I'm off to uni, maybe I'll post pictures of that cute dog if I find it again later

For 200 years, scientists have failed to grow a common mineral in the laboratory under the conditions believed to have formed it naturally. Now, a team of researchers from the University of Michigan and Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan have finally pulled it off, thanks to a new theory developed from atomic simulations. Their success resolves a long-standing geology mystery called the "Dolomite Problem." Dolomite -- a key mineral in the Dolomite mountains in Italy, Niagara Falls, the White Cliffs of Dover and Utah's Hoodoos -- is very abundant in rocks older than 100 million years, but nearly absent in younger formations. "If we understand how dolomite grows in nature, we might learn new strategies to promote the crystal growth of modern technological materials," said Wenhao Sun, the Dow Early Career Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at U-M and the corresponding author of the paper published today in Science.

Winter is here, so it's time to light candles and study in bed and complain about the weather. I'm trying my best to learn all the things I have doubts about, but it's a long list.
