heyo ! im a cognitive science student and im doing a self-guided project about dreams and lived experience ! i would really appreciate any responses, as these questions have been guiding a passion project of mine for the last couple of years now. i have found that these questions are usually a fun and simple way to think deeper about your dreams, and hope you will contribute to the information gathered ! to sum up, I am interested in understanding how experiences of everyday life and mental disorder may affect the modes in which a person dreams. this is a short, 7-question survey that is entirely anonymous, and the information will not be used in any formal capacity.

Mother, I had a dream last night.
Stars of the sky appeared,A meteorite of Anu fell next to me.
I tried to lift it but it was too mighty for me, I tried to turn it over, but I could not budge it . . .
Men clustered about it, And kissed its feet as if it were a little baby.  I loved it and was drawn to it, like one is drawn to a woman. Epic of Gilgamesh (Mesopotamian epic poem written about 4,000 years ago,one of the first ever recorded.)
Gilgamesh’s Dream.
The stone that Gilgamesh dreams of, that the townspeople revere, is reminiscent of the Black Stone in the Kaaba, one of Islam’s most sacred sites. This stone is a meteorite as well and, according to the Islamic faith, was given to Abraham by the angel Gabriel. Gilgamesh, touchingly, shares his dream with his mother. This powerful man wants reassurance and comfort. He, like all of us, wants his dream to be interpreted and understood. She, symbolically, is the great goddess mother who understands all dreams; she is Ishtar, Isis, Eve, Lilith, Mary and the Black Madonna. Gilgamesh yearns for relationship with this part of himself that he does not yet know. The heavens sent a gift in the form of a shooting star; it represents new life. The townspeople understand this, and worship the object as a baby. This heaven-sent thing is beyond the power of even all-powerful Gilgamesh. He cannot lift it or even roll it over. Gilgamesh is drawn to this star-like object as one is drawn to someone one loves. He shares the dream with his mother, a positive embodiment of the feminine. The feminine is not gender, it is symbol.

Throughout history humanity has been focused on interpreting the contents of dreams… often at the expense of understanding what dreams actually are and how our brains creates them during our sleep.
In this video, I look at the latest research in the field of dream science and REM sleep. I describe how our brains create dreams and what these processes tell us about how our brains work and about our consciousness. Happy Viewing 🙂

Do you feel mesmerized by this lobed comb jelly? We shore do!
This vibrant jelly is actually quite skilled at blending in thanks to its transparent, gelatinous body. There’s still much to learn about this species but our jellies team were the first to uncover the lifecycle of these marvelous wonders.
From incredible findings like this to culturing jellies that have never been exhibited before, our jellies team has a remarkable story to share about their work and contribution to marine science.
You can help our jellies team tell their story by clicking here to vote for us to go to SXSW (South by Southwest)! Voting period ends August 18th!

Brain: I must not sleep. Sleep is the mind-killer. Sleep is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
Me: We can't not sleep as it turns out
Brain: But it's so BORING
Me: Maybe we'll see an animal
Brain: ANIMALS ARE BORING

Given that SCOTUS has anointed the office of the presidency as a monarch role beyond all reproach (so that when 45 wins in Nov as they are intending), and we’ll never have another presidential election, I wish that Biden would assume lame duck status IMMEDIATELY, call their bluff, and start issuing executive orders like crazy now through January 2025.
He could do shit like defund the military and pour the funds into social services, repeal all nationwide laws/restrictions on abortion, make all healthcare including all reproductive services and gender affirming care accessible, instate UBI and Medicare for all, write a 100% tax rate on billionaires, push sweeping environmental protections, break up monopolistic megacorps, close federal prisons, expand and pack the court, cancel all student/personal/medical/non corporate debts, open our boarders, decriminalize all drugs, etc. etc. etc.
Maybe then the 6 block justice set of 45 worshippers would see what they’ve done.
Maybe then, if Biden immediately, decisively even did 10% of that, he might not lose the election.
Of course, he’d actually have to give a shit about any of those things in order to do this.
And that’s the whole fucking point, right? He won’t. And it’s why we’re here.
Democrats hold themselves to “the rules” only to the extent they’re spineless liberals who are in the same big money pockets as republicans. The key difference being, they let republicans be the ones to more overtly, proudly kill us all and act powerless to stopping them.
When our structures demand they are the ONLY ones who could stop them. I can’t take it anymore.

Bill Nye the Science Guy was my science teacher. When he came into class we'd all chant, "Bill Bill Bill" but also, "Science Science Science". Then one day I went to class and Bill wasn't there and it turned out he was fired. I found his apartment in a massive monolithic block and we had a heart to heart chat. He broke down into tears saying, "I really liked being your science guy".

Tiny BurstCube's Tremendous Travelogue
Meet BurstCube! This shoebox-sized satellite is designed to study the most powerful explosions in the cosmos, called gamma-ray bursts. It detects gamma rays, the highest-energy form of light.
BurstCube may be small, but it had a huge journey to get to space.
Tumblr media
First, BurstCube was designed and built at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Here you can see Julie Cox, an early career engineer, working on BurstCube’s gamma-ray detecting instrument in the Small Satellite Lab at Goddard.
BurstCube is a type of spacecraft called a CubeSat. These tiny missions give early career engineers and scientists the chance to learn about mission development — as well as do cool science!
Tumblr media
Then, after assembling the spacecraft, the BurstCube team took it on the road to conduct a bunch of tests to determine how it will operate in space. Here you can see another early career engineer, Kate Gasaway, working on BurstCube at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.
She and other members of the team used a special facility there to map BurstCube’s magnetic field. This will help them know where the instrument is pointing when it’s in space.
Tumblr media
The next stop was back at Goddard, where the team put BurstCube in a vacuum chamber. You can see engineers Franklin Robinson, Elliot Schwartz, and Colton Cohill lowering the lid here. They changed the temperature inside so it was very hot and then very cold. This mimics the conditions BurstCube will experience in space as it orbits in and out of sunlight.
Tumblr media
Then, up on a Goddard rooftop, the team — including early career engineer Justin Clavette — tested BurstCube’s GPS. This so-called open-sky test helps ensure the team can locate the satellite once it’s in orbit.
Tumblr media
The next big step in BurstCube’s journey was a flight to Houston! The team packed it up in a special case and took it to the airport. Of course, BurstCube got the window seat!
Tumblr media
Once in Texas, the BurstCube team joined their partners at Nanoracks (part of Voyager Space) to get their tiny spacecraft ready for launch. They loaded the satellite into a rectangular frame called a deployer, along with another small satellite called SNoOPI (Signals of Opportunity P-band Investigation). The deployer is used to push spacecraft into orbit from the International Space Station.
Tumblr media
From Houston, BurstCube traveled to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, where it launched on SpaceX’s 30th commercial resupply servicing mission on March 21, 2024. BurstCube traveled to the station along with some other small satellites, science experiments, as well as a supply of fresh fruit and coffee for the astronauts.
Tumblr media
A few days later, the mission docked at the space station, and the astronauts aboard began unloading all the supplies, including BurstCube!
Tumblr media
And finally, on April 18, 2024, BurstCube was released into orbit. The team will spend a month getting the satellite ready to search the skies for gamma-ray bursts. Then finally, after a long journey, this tiny satellite can embark on its big mission!
Tumblr media
BurstCube wouldn’t be the spacecraft it is today without the input of many early career engineers and scientists. Are you interested in learning more about how you can participate in a mission like this one? There are opportunities for students in middle and high school as well as college!
Keep up on BurstCube’s journey with NASA Universe on X and Facebook. And make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space!
