Watched the new Dungeons and Dragons movie with most of the current party, and there were admittedly some goods and some bads.

Good: everyone had fun calling out references and laughing at obvious Nat. 1s. Relating back to our own campaign.

Bad: The DM was taking notes.

Worse: He laughed. Like, a lot

Hahahahahahahahahah! Finally! Finally my players have noticed the false hydra!

It's not a fully fledged false hydra. I'm not gonna run that memory erasure gaslighting on them. They didn't sign off on that for their waivers. But I have had this monster under this location and the lore around it written for over a year now. And they've finally killed the evil queen that had locked it up and held it at bay, and now it's loose and it's nasty long necked heads are creeping up out of the ground and dragging bodies back down into it's lair to eat.

Hah! And I scared the crap out of them and I'm so happy! I've been wanting them to get here for so long! They killed my mutant umber hulk hive before they could see how cool it was, they killed my kracken before it could drag anyone into the deep, and they managed to kill my giant mutant bug monster before it could explode on them. But this! The hydra monster! Finally I have a horrible scary monster that gets to do its thing!

They've had two sessions where the monster could have gotten them. But I had them roll saving throws to see if they took damage from a bite they couldn't see. And until tonight they had rolled natural 20s every time.

For me, personally, the greatest modding cultural choice is trying to emulate in Skyrim (and re-releases) things such as Darksouls and The Witcher. Not because those games are bad, they're objectively very very good, but because Skyrim has DNA much, much closer to things like Dungeons amd Dragons, and it's gameplay works counter to those design ideas rather than complimentarily.
