sorry guys, I'm just gonna rant to myself for a bit about the AoT twt fandom. So, there's a post EMs are sharing around of an Eremin shipper saying Eren hugged Armin tighter than he did Mikasa, multiple times. They're angry, saying it's a misrepresentation of Eremika and that it's "clearly shitting on Mikasa." (Apparently this was the impetus for the "half of Eremin's content is talking about Mikasa and fighting" post I responded to earlier)

And I must ask, how is it a misrepresentation of the story (and Eremika) to say Eren hugged Armin tighter? That's just what happened. It's canon, plain for anyone to see, and it's not derogatory towards Mikasa to say so. Eren and Mikasa's moments are more subtle and tender, and more rare. Eremin has a fierceness to it; Eremika has a steady comfort. It is certainly a slight slight (lol) to EM, to use the tightness and number of hugs as a comparative metric for romance - so, their argument should focus on breaking down that premise, if they care to make it.

It's a fairly simple takedown: different people find different things romantically compelling. So, if Eren and Mikasa's tender hug appeals more to you, that's wonderful! If Eren and Armin's fierce hugs appeal more to you, cool! If both appeal to you, even better! Best of both worlds :D Accept your differences and move on.

My personal view of what is romantically compelling is shaped by being queer, a lesbian on the aro/ace spectrum. Ships between friends, with high levels of understanding, honesty, support, intensity, shared goals, casual physical affection - those are what appeal to me most (a ship being queer is also enticing). But I understand it's different for every person and I don't expect everyone to adhere to my standards.

I have no idea who this person is. I did not block them - they blocked me. Someone's alt account, maybe? I just blocked a bunch of people who were denigrating Eren and Armin's bond under a different post, so perhaps I blocked their main. Maybe this was a poor move on my part, but I've responded to their (unblocked) main: "who are you? I just blocked a bunch of people being cruel/misrepresenting canon on another post, so perhaps I caught you there. It's called curating your timeline so you can coexist in peace. If you think that post is shitting on Mikasa, take it up with Isayama for writing it so"

It's more combative than I like to portray myself, and I don't have hope for having a civil discussion anymore, so why did I say anything at all? I don't know. I wish character limits were longer so I could add my piece acknowledging the slight to EM and fully elaborate the flaw in the premise...but they wouldn't take it in good faith regardless, seeing as they ignored my previous (neutered) attempt: "...Eren & Armin were very physically affectionate throughout the series. it's not delusional, it's canon & it isn't derogatory to Mikasa to say so. Eren & Mikasa have tender moments too, just differently"

What if I told them I don't even primarily ship them romantically, but as queerplatonic soulmates? Think it would break their brains lol

Wish I could simply block every (obnoxious) EM on that forsaken app, but that doesn't stop people from seeing you now, and I do want an audience for my Mikasa posts, lol. Legitimately, I've had my post about Mikasa's growth and perception of Eren - a fairly straightforward reading, emphasizing Eremika's bond - in my twt drafts for months. I'm nervous to post it, lest I be harassed for acknowledging the darkness in their relationship. Then I feel bad for saying so, because I've also encountered many lovely, normal Eremika enjoyers :/

With all of this said, I'm very thankful to the people of Tumblr who've interacted with my thoughts in good faith. I truly appreciate every person who takes the time out of their day to add their thoughts, ask questions, send an encouraging like. Y'all are the best :)

i think that in the haze surrounding veilguard's release, when everyone was scrambling trying to fend off blatant misogyny and transphobia in an increasingly hostile environment, and feeling the frustration of having to be happy with an admittedly underwhelming game (in comparison to the previous ones), so as to not give these horrible people fodder, we misplaced our anger a lot.

people who liked the veilguard are not the enemy. it's perfectly okay to have liked the game, there is still enough content there for it to be a fun story - or even a tragic story. I sobbed like a baby my entire way through the epilogue. I had a great time romancing Emmrich, loved going to the Necropolis and to Treviso. but i don't know, even though there were some scenes I really really loved, it all just felt... hollow.

and that's the issue. I like my art saturated in meaning, the least thing I want is for my art to be hollow.

you remember back in the day when youtubers were worried about censorship, because the sponsors demanded 'family friendly' content only? that hasn't ended. ads are the new currency. everyone wants to be the new blockbuster, but there are three huge movies in the theatre at the same time. three new big games about to be released. these things are expensive, because they insist on doing all the cgi crap possible and paying their artists next to nothing. people aren't killed, they're unalived.

so I don't think people are dumb or 'lack media literacy' just because they liked a game they invested time and love into; there are bad takes, of course, but there are bad takes in any group, even the ones you're part of. the community has made incredible art, as it should. as it always has.

and since we're being honest, I don't think the writers, who were constrained by corporate red tape, are at fault either. they have their issues, of course, but dragon age has always had issues - they're still good games, trying to tackle big themes.

there is an odd polish to big company projects nowadays that feels... ai generated. most of it isn't, of course, but everything has been sanded down so it won't bother the bigots too much. during Pride Month™, we're allowed to buy as many rainbows as we like, as long as it's branded, then it's back to beige. in communist Romania, most of the clothes people wore were grey.

corporations don't understand art, mr beast doesn't understand art, you cannot divorce art from politics, because art has always been and will always be a mirror. if you think you're a centrist, you are the status quo. you come pre-sanded.

all that to say, we need to demand more from the people we give power to. don't fucking settle for the lesser evil, and be loud about it. just, you know, make sure that the people in the line of fire actually deserve to be there yk

Being real about this dx11 update and dx9 discontinued support for a sec but this is one of the worst decisions EA has made, and I hate to say it but I don't think they realize the monetary impact this will have on them, I mean, when most of your audience has always been laptop players who are willing to buy a pack for some 20-40 dollars, you'd think they'd want to keep that audience and coddle them. A lot of laptop and non-laptop simmers have put a lot of money into this game and those players who have spent money but don't have the system to run dx11 are gonna be shit out of fucking luck, 100+ dollars down the drain, 100 DOLLARS!!! that doesn't even count for the people who HAVE spent all their money on EVERY DLC. 1000 DOLLARS. A THOUSAND DOLLARS. nows not the time to shame people for spending money on sims 4 because while it's ridiculous and there are safe ways to sail the seven seas, I completely understand people who are too scared to sail the seven seas. Again, People have spent REAL MONEY that they CANNOT GET BACK on this game, and now they just have to. stop playing, because their device cannot support dx11, and wallow in their own financial loss. I feel like I cannot do any justice of the grief that people will experience with my words, but this IS going to be a problem.

We're definitely gonna some lose simmers in this community, beloved simmers, underrated simmers, simmers who may have just started out and can no longer continue, simmers who work their ass off to create beautiful work even with a low-end device, simmers who may have been a long time simmer in the community. So many people who were hoping to find a community and gain an audience in simblr, now unable to do this because their device cannot handle dx11.

That being said please remember you don't have to make sims stuff to be a part of the community, if you are a simmer, have been a simmer or want to be a simmer, then you are a simmer, don't let this discontinued support make you think it effects your position in this community.

Additionally, I know this is not a solution to the issue at hand, but there are plenty of guides out there to play the previous/retro sims games, if you want to play Sims 2, OSAB (on here) has the entire game and packs for FREE and easy to install, there's guides on how to install Sims 3 (I cannot reccomend any as I have the disc's so I don't need to sail the seven seas), and the Sims 1 is just a one click easy download on Oldgamesdownload (Yes I took the risk, not knowing if it was real or a virus, and my Laptop is perfectly fine). So even if you feel like you cannot be a simmer because you can't play Sims 4, there's a beautiful and thriving community around the retro games, and like I said, you don't HAVE to play Sims games to be a simmer, you are always gonna be a simmer through and through and will be accepted and loved in this community all the same.

More than a week after finishing my first playthrough of DAV and reflecting on it, I think it boils down to; I had a good time playing, it's a good game, it's a cool action RPG, but to me it's a bad dragon age? If that makes sense

The whole "oh btw Viper is the black divine lol" reveal and everything that implies was kind of what made me realize that Yeahhh... I had a great time with it, loved the game, had a lot of fun, but. As others said, it feels a bit shallow and it misses a lot of what I loved in the previous games. If I sit and detach it from the trilogy, think of it as a spin off? It'd work GREAT! But that coping falls quick considering how many important lore we got from it and how it directly continues on Solas story - its just too bad it wasn't... explored deeper or idk. I feel really sad about the game I'm ngl, a lot of What Could've Been, but eh, as I said, still a great experience and I'll replay it ofc! I'm having fun modding it too

The only ones I'm blaming here is EA btw - the devs poured a lot of love in there and it shows, and I can only hope they'll be able to continue exploring this universe in the future 😞

i do feel like Treasure and Porter are somewhat going to parallel early Vincent and Lovely in regards to them restarting their relationship, which will be a treat to see firsthand (damn they really are brothers huh. bagged baddies, fumbled said baddies, restarted with said baddies while also being incredibly awkward)

im rlly excited to see how their relationship plays out now that theyre actually treating it seriously and not pretending that theyre totally not in a situationship. character development is character devlopmenting, comparing how Porter acted in his second/third audio with Treasure to this latest one EEEEEE IM SO EXCITEDDDDDD
