The Granary V2.1.2, and an Update for 12/31/23!

Hi, it's Pardy! It's been approximately six months, and my life has changed more than it has in the two and a half decades I've been on this bitch of an earth. First thing's first, though-- THE GRANARY V2.1.2 IS OUT, AND BOY HOWDY IS IT A BIG UPDATE!!!

The Granary V2 has received a massive update in the form of 1.2, and it's something we're all immensely proud of. Lots of fucking rad character art, lots of fantastic world lore that we've been building up and refining for a while now, lots of important tiny revisions and cleanup that wouldn'tve gotten done otherwise. Be sure to give it a look if you're interested! Otherwise, uh. Yeah, me and Vamp moved out, and have been learning to live on our own for the past six months. I'm medicated now, he's medicated now; god, there's just too much to list (and a bunch of shit that I'm not going to). Life has been crazy. I personally will be taking a bit of a break from working on The Granary V2 directly, since I burnt myself out a little in the process of pushing out this update. But, who knows how long that'll last. I can't keep myself away, and neither can Cav or Vamp. So, with that being said, we here @ Empty Mask hope you've had a wonderful holiday, and we hope you enjoy the newest update to The Granary V2!

What is tragic with Verso (not the painted one) is that. he's haunting the story through and through. His ghost is present everywhere. He is everywhere. The story revolves around him and what he left behind. The lingering fragments of his soul his family refuses to let die and join him to the grave, so much that they end up bastardizing it. Painted Verso isn't Verso but how Aline perceives her son in her mind. He Who Guards Truth With Lies/the Mask Keeper isn't Verso but how Renoir perceives his son in his mind. The Young Boy isn't quite Verso either. He's what is left of him, but mostly what he was as a kid when the painting was first painted. The Verso who died wasn't a child, he had lived more, he had changed. Sure, he still loved his dogs and his plushy and his trains but he was far more than that, and he was also someone who escaped being understood and known, who could be genuine and sincere but who still put on a lot of masks and appearances. I don't think he was unknown but he sure is for the players. You can only get to know Verso through others or through the little that remains of him from - mainly - when he was a child. The only clear scene and knowledge we have of him is from just before he was taken by the fire - he's trying to comfort his little sister as fire surrounds them, most likely ('you're okay' sounds clearly like a lie in this situation too) - the only knowledge we have of him is that he's dead (he died and his likely last words were a lie - a comforting lie, but one nonetheless.). He died protecting his sister. It's his only line. The Young Boy is both Verso when he was young and that version that has to deal with the consequences that his own(ish) death brought. A fragment whose memory is fading and that has to suffer his family's grief. He wants to have fun and laugh and be with his sister. He doesn't remember her name. He falls silent each time. His cinematic has him only paint, unable to talk. What's left of Verso wants to be at peace, to be at rest finally. The only thing we know of Verso is that he's dead and unknowable. He was a musician. I'm going to scream.

Remastered B&TSM PDFs, and Update 1/8/24!!

Weird to be posting again within another six months of the last one, but hey, here's to a new year, right? Since the original Blondie & The Smokestone March PDFs were made back during the stone age when we had no idea what we were doing, we decided that we'd put our experience to use and remaster them! Additionally, BOOK 5 IS FINALLY ON ITCH!!! Links, details, and a small update below!

Update time. Uh. We're going to be continuing how we've been operating, but we're also going to be prioritizing connecting with our local community here IRL. I (pardy) don't think this blog'll really be for anything but thoughts, updates, and announcements, so don't expect it to be anything more. Thanks for being understanding. -P

The thing is that Jayce succeeds. He was right.

He was able to create magic. His idea was revolutionary. He was able to harness the arcane and fuse it with scientific principles to create amazing things. Somewhere along the way he reached his life's goal of giving magic to the world, and he still had so much more left to offer. He had the praise and the accolades and the funding and his face on the goddamn mugs.

And it wasn't enough. Not where it mattered most. Not for who it mattered most.

(Do you think Jayce felt sick, cleaning the dirt and blood from his pristine white coat, waiting? Do you think the memories kept it off, despite the chill in the lab air, with him only re-donning his Man of Progress suit when Viktor leaves for good? Do you think upon his return from the anomaly that he cradles his old mug — the one Viktor bought for him as a joke — suddenly and fiercely glad for his grown out hair and beard because he is not that man anymore. He hasn't been for a long time. Maybe he never really was.

Not that it matters. He has a promise to keep.)

ok. ok im soso normal THEY GAVE HIM AN IRISH NAME!!! HIS NAME IS IRISH!!!! i ADORE irish and celtic folklore/names so this is very exciting for me!!! how did i not notice this until now!!!

basically kieran (i see it spelt ciarán or ciaran here too!!!) is an irish name that mean "little dark one", and is associated with young, dark haired men. LITTLE DARK ONE!!! that's actually soso perfect for kieran because like 1. his black hair obviously and 2. how he becomes antagonistic as the dlc progresses!!! poor little troubled guy </33 never going to forgive them for putting him on the VILLAINS WIKI an antagonist is NOT the same this as a villain YOU WILL NEVER BE A VILLAIN TO ME KIERAN

also this is just a little personal observation thingy and isn't an actual fucking character analysis or anything but he reminds me a little of púcaí (pookas)!! basically little morally ambiguous shapeshifting creatures. stories about them both helping rural irish farmers, as well as just being general nuisances or sometimes even genuine threats. kieran's personality/design shift reminds me a little of them, and his design is sort of reminiscent of how they're typically depicted (small humanoid creatures with some animalistic features and dair hair). might just be an excuse for me to yap about folklore though!!
