We recently saw a post about exomemories that interested us, but to avoid detracting from the point of that post, we're making this one ourselves.
The community often focuses on vivid exomemories, ones you can easily understand and tell others about, but it's alright if yours aren't like that. We ourselves often experience memories – whether exo- or from this life/world – as more general knowledge than, like, flashbacks or whatever. We know things without knowing how we know them. Sometimes we get flashes of "Yes, this feels right." or "This reminds me of something I can't put my finger on." We miss things that are hard to put into words, or instinctually assume the presence of something that we only realize in hindsight doesn't exist here. All these kinds of exomemories are just as important as the times we remember something big and vivid.
And of course, memories can be hazy or unclear; you don't need to scramble for details to prove to yourself your exomemories are real. This-life memories aren't perfectly clear and immutable forever and always; why would exomemories somehow be exempt from the regular ol' flaws of memory recall? You don't need every last detail to have "real" exomemories. If it matters to you, and feels real to you, then that's all that matters in the end.
Big, vivid, and clear exomemories are fun to talk about a lot of the time, but they're not the only kind of exomemory out there. Don't hurt yourself trying to force yourself to only have those kinds of exomemories, or suppressing everything that doesn't fall into that box. Exomemories are, at the end of the day, just memories like any other – and as this community should know well, memory can be complicated as hell.

Exotrauma is real. We are real, and you are too. Your experiences, your thoughts, your pain is real. The body need not have went through your pain for you to experience the effects of suffering. Exotrauma is still trauma. You still deserve love, care, and peace. We still deserve to heal.

Alterhuman Coining: Phoenitrauma & Phoenitraumagenic
[PT: Alterhuman Coining: Phoenitrauma & Phoenitraumagenic]
Tumblr media
🌀 Phoenitrauma 🌀
alternatively: fenitrauma, phenitrauma
Phoenitrauma refers to any trauma someone has experienced/is affected by that originates from a past life, reincarnation, etc. The term is meant to validate the traumatic experience and the post-traumatic effects one might experience from their past lives, but still distinguish itself from trauma experienced within both this world and life. The word is derivative of "phoenixal" and meant to describe a certain type of exotrauma specific to people whose exomemories are from past lives/reincarnation/etc. The symbol is a combination of the phoenixal symbol and the aqua PTSD ribbon, over the phoenixal flag.
This term is meant for all people/beings/etc that experience any sort of reincarnation or past lives, including otherkin/therians, introjected system members, and more. This term does not discriminate between spiritual-based and string-theory-based reincarnation/dimensional concepts.
Tumblr media
🌀 Phoenitraumagenic 🌀
alternatively: fenitraumagenic, phenitraumagenic
A system or system member that is phoenitraumagenic originates from phoenitrauma, a specific type of exotrauma stemming from past lives and other reincarnations. This means that the system/member(s) themselves stemmed from pre-existing phoenitrauma, rather than it simply coming with their exomemories.
Example 1: Member A has a traumatic past life, and Member B forms to cope with a specific aspect of that trauma. Member B is phoenitraumagenic.
Example 2: The system has no existing past life connection to Character C, but when Fictive C showed up, they found themself to be deeply affected by the exotrauma they experienced. Fictive C has phoenitrauma, but is not phoenitraumagenic.
Example 3: Member E has phoenitrauma from a bad experience in a previous reincarnation. Eventually, Member E splits a subsystem specifically centered around the phoenitrauma experienced. Member E's subsystem is phoenitraumagenic.
Example 4: Member G unlocks memories of a past life, and due to the trauma related to that past life, their identity is drastically altered to present completely as that past life. Member G is phoenitraumagenic.
Some alternative flags & symbols!

🌀 For use by all alterhumans; these terms are not gatekept, but phoenitraumagenic is a term intended for systems/plurals/etc. Hate will be removed. 🌀

exomemories are like. you died. you're back now. are you? do you count as alive? did you come back wrong? you remember the feeling. you don't remember it at all. it was yesterday. it was a very very long time ago. it hurts. it's kind of peaceful. you can go weeks without thinking about it. you think about it constantly. it shapes you as a person. it doesn't define you. you're alive. you're still dead. y'know?

Not sure if exomemories or general past life/kin related memories, but is it normal to get a familiar feeling that's part of me or my past when I look at different pictures on Pinterest. Has anyone else come across this, because I just noticed it myself.
(I'm trying to gather pictures related to my kin types so I can make personal moodboards.)

if you hate past life memory hypnosis what are your thoughts on spiritual otherkin therians and fictionkin, did fictives with exomemories, etc.?
The important is to have healthy framework about it, so you don't end up falling into one of those groups who exploit that kind of thing for nefarious purposes. (Like spiritual groups who teach people that magical creatures existed in physical form until Those Bad Conspiracy Guys wiped them all out or something and also you definitely have past life trauma that only they can help you through.)
(And like, I'm personally dragonkin, and I know there's New Agers who'd try to spin that as me being some kinda draconic starseed and that's just. Hah. Lol. Nope. Stay away from me with that!)

Prompt #1,268
Squinting at the mirror, Person A's face wrinkled with displeasure even further. This body... it wasn't anything like their old one; like their actual body. Everything, from the color of their eyes to the callouses on their fingertips, was wrong. Incorrect. Simply not how it should be. If Person A had to wake up in someone else's body, couldn't it at least have been one similar to their own?
