Random Personal HCs I Made Of Miguel O’Hara While Writing Smthn
pt. 1, pt. 2, pt.3
He likes pineapple on pizza. That's it.
Miguel is bisexual, or bicurious at best. I refuse to look at that man who struts, swaying his snatchable waist around, hands on his hips as anything but just the tiniest (not at all) bit zesty. He's gotta have gay thoughts once in a while.
He does that little cat yawn every once in a while, y'know? The one where they yawn and their lips curl back showin' off teeth and everything? Yeah. He does that.
Loves a good dad pun. He's had a taste of fatherhood before so I'd at least expect him to either crack one at some point (an EXTREME rarity) much less laugh at one if he finds it either clever or "stupid" (that's the excuse at least)
He keeps at least a photo frame or at least a couple few in his office, of his family like with either Gabriel (his half-brother) or Gabriella.
Whenever Miguel is out and not being Spider-man, he tends to do this thing where he just silently observes or surveys any room he's in. Whether it's at a local coffee shop he frequents, whether Peter manages to haul his ass out of the Spider-Society HQ every now and then to do something "fun" like going out drinking or just anytime he's out. He just always surveys the area silently like he's waiting for something terrible to happen (can't blame him for that though).
If someone manages to catch his gaze while he's just silently scanning a room, he might stare uncomfortably long at that person just to make them feel awkward, if he's feeling particularly like a menace.
He doesn't have an exact preference for dogs or cats, it's either he can tolerate them both or likes both. Although, he might have a higher liking for dogs though (that's just IMO).
He can ABSOLUTELY hear heartbeats (if he focuses enough with his super hearing 'n all), especially if they're beating really fast. It helps him track down certain criminals while he's in hot pursuit or trying to find someone. He can absolutely hear them through a wall too.

Felt like appreciating some comic book artists so here are 4 current comic artists that just blow me away every time I see their work:
Bruno Redondo
My favourite thing about Redondo’s art is how incredibly livelike it is. His work is so dynamic and his characters have so much personality. Also his composition is immaculate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dan Mora
My favourite parts of Moras art are the characters. His character designs are just stunning. Overall his art also just makes me feel all warm inside when I’m reading his comics. It makes me really sentimental in a way I can’t quite describe.
Tumblr media
Jamal Campbell
As far as DC is concerned I’m pretty sure Campbell only does variant covers (please correct me if I’m wrong). But all his variant covers blow me away every time I see them (and I may have quite a few comic duplicates just cause I wanted his covers…). His work with composition is always perfect and he’s great at making his art really feel alive. His Nightwing #89 variant is also not only my favourite DC artwork but also one of my favourite artworks ever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Otto Schmidt
My immense love for Schmidts art is really hard to explain other than that his characters are so Shaped and the vibe of his comics is incredibly unique and inviting. Whenever I’m reading a Schmidt comic it makes me feel like I’m on a really fun old carnival ride or watching fire breathers at a circus.

detective comics #483
[ID: a full body pin-up of the ‘Batman Family’. In order, it features Alfred standing to the left with a white towel draped over his arm. Batman is standing slightly in front of him and has both hands on his hips while smiling triumphantly. A bit off to the right, Batgirl is also smiling and is leaning slightly against Commissioner Gordon, who has one of his hands up and is holding a pipe. Next to him, Robin stands with his arms crosssd and is beaming happily. They're all in the Batcave — with the giant 1970s Bat-computer behind them as the Batmobile is angled behind Alfred and Batman. In the far, left background — the Joker, Riddler, and Penguin are all in a barred cell. Blue cursive in the upper left corner reads, ‘Happy Anniversary from the Whole Batman Family!’ END ID]

@ambiences-stuff a week or so ago commented on this post, asking:
For the ask, curious; 🧂 Least favourite part of canon
And I'm very late to it but I'm finally able to sit down and answer!
So I'm going to stick to only Negan's part of canon, and also stick to TV canon without comparing it to the comics-- because off the top of my head I have no real complaints about his comic canon, and a LOT of my issues with TV canon involves changes made from the comics and we'd be here all day if I went into that lol, but it could be summed up with "they made loads of changes to Savior-era Negan that made him more unnecessarily evil."
So all of that aside, my overall least favorite parts of Negan's canon on the show are his random love interest/baby plot in season 11, and honestly most of the plot of Dead City.
I want Negan happy more than anything but, without writing a whole essay about it: him randomly showing up with a new wife and kid on the way was unrealistic, their entire relationship happening off-screen was insulting, we learn absolutely nothing about Annie or them as a couple leaving it all feeling one-dimensional (virtually everyone only refers to Annie as "Negan's pregnant wife," even Negan himself most times), and we never get to see them interact except to talk about the baby and staying safe. The relationship itself turned out to just be a plot device to further Negan's storyline with Maggie (this continues to be true in Dead City), and was not to mention a slap in the face to Lucille's memory and importance to Negan when almost "losing everything" (Annie and unborn baby) was what pushed him to relate to and apologize to Maggie, and not when he had actually lost his everything (Lucille.) Even JDM didn't like it.
As for Dead City, my biggest issue is that the entire plot hinged on the Croat knowing things he realistically couldn't know. It was literally "random character the audience has never met but was totally there during the story, tells other character we've never met everything they need to know for the plot to happen, even things they have no way of knowing." It's a HUGE pet peeve of mine when characters learn important information off-screen in ways that don't make sense. How could Jerome the random Savior know about Negan and Maggie working together in season 11 when that was years after the Sanctuary had fallen (which is why Jerome ended up in NY in the first place)? On top of that, how did the Croat have any idea what Maggie and Hershel looked like? How did he find out where they lived, when they were no longer at the original Hilltop location? I also hate that this leads to everything being Negan's fault one way or another.

I lowkey want an owl house fic where theres no homophobia in the boiling isles like in canon, but the human realm does. Like Luz comin to the demon realm and seeing people just casually being lgbt and its awesome. And Luz getting to see older lgbt people!! Its often very special for lgbt kids to see older lgbt adults out living their lives.. so imagine how stoked Luz would be when she finds out Eda is bi. And she asks Eda if theres no homophobia on the boiling isles and shes just like "whats a homophobia"
Plus post season 2 finale where Luz has to explain homophobia in the human realm to the gang stuck there..
Look, i just think its a good opportunity for uplifting wholesomeness, a bit of humor, and of course a dash of angst (cuz dang, why cant the human realm be free of homophobia??)

Solus Prime
For Solus Prime:
Bitch Planet vol. 2: President Bitch by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine De Landro
Solus prime is the president bitch <3 more seriously tho, this comic is a really cool, dramatic and satirical exploration of intersectional misogyny and feminism and if the girl boss prime doesn’t like this book then I don’t like her
Tumblr media
For You:
Across a Field of Starlight by Blue Delliquanti
If weaponsmith solus prime who does not condone weapons of mass destruction is one of your favourite transformers you probably enjoy seeing people of marginalized genders being cool and competent and kind in sci-fi settings which is why I think you might like this book. But also don’t trust the blurb on the back of the book whoever thought it would be smart to market it as a romance is a liar, it’s a story built on friendship and trust but there is no romance and if you go in expecting romance you will be disappointed.

Tumblr media
how's about both?
CURIOUS
Curious's original name upon creation was Matilda! She also had a older brother named Shelby who was a prairie dog/pegasis chimera. Shelby was eventually replaced by chinchilla, bird, and fox older siblings
Curious is officially a hybrid of five different animals, making her a chimera, but she labels her species as 'a curious'
Curious is the youngest of her family
Curious is moderate at flying, she learns from her bird sibling
FUSHIA
Fushia originally was purple, despite still being named the same
Despite perfering class stay on schedule, she has derailed it several times by rambling
DAISY
Despite her father being her teacher, she still enacts a bit of chaos with the rest of the kids
Just very good friend to have

My very last comic for The Nib! End of an era! Transcription below the cut. instagram / patreon / portfolio / etsy / my book / redbubble
The first event I went to with GENDER QUEER was in NYC in 2019 at the Javits Center.
So many of the people who came to my signing were librarians, and so many of them said the same thing: "I know exactly who I want to give this to!" Maia: "Thank you for helping readers find my book!" While working on the book, I was genuinely unsure if anyone outside of my family and close friends would read it. But the early support of librarians and two American Library Association awards helped sell two print runs in first year.
Since then, GENDER QUEER been published in 8 languages, with more on the way: Spanish, Czech, Polish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portugese and Dutch.
It has also been the most banned book in the United States for the past two years. The American Library Association has tracked an astronomical increase in book challenges over the past few years. Most of these challenges are to books with diverse characters and LGBTQ themes. These challenges are coming unevenly across the US, in a pattern that mirrors the legislative attacks on LGBTQ people. The Brooklyn Public Library offered free eCards to anyone in the US aged 13-21, in an effort to make banned books more available to young readers. A teacher in Norman, Oklahoma gave her students the QR code for the free eCard and lost her job. Summer Boismeir is now working for the Brooklyn Public Library. Hoopla and Libby/Overdrive, apps used to access digital library books, are now banned in Mississippi to anyone under 18. Some libraries won’t allow anyone under 18 to get any kind of library card without parental permission. When librarians in Jamestown, Michigan refused to remove GENDER QUEER and several other books, the citizens of the town voted down the library’s funding in the fall 2022 election. Without funding, the library is due to close in mid-2024. My first event since covid hit was the American Library Association conference in June 2022 in Washington, DC. Once again, the librarians in my signing line all had similar stories for me: “Your book was challenged in our district" "It was returned to the shelf!" "It was removed from the shelf..." "It was moved to the adult section."
Over and over I said: "Thank you. Thank you for working so hard to keep my book in your library. I’m sorry you had to defend it, but thank you for trying, even if it didn't work." We are at a crossroads of freedom of speech and censorship. The future of libraries, both publicly funded and in schools, are at stake. This is massively impacting the daily lives of librarians, teachers, students, booksellers, and authors around the country. In May 2023, I read an article from the Washington Post analyzing nearly 1000 of the book challenges from the 2021-2022 school year. I was literally on route to a festival to talk about book bans when I read a startling statistic. 60% of the 1000 book challenges were submitted by just 11 people. One man alone was responsible for 92 challenges. These 11 people seem to have made submitting copy-cat book challenges their full-time hobby and their opinions are having an outsized ripple effect across the nation. WE NEED TO MAKE THE VOICES SUPPORTING DIVERSE BOOKS AND OPPOSING BOOK BANS EVEN LOUDER. If you are able too, show up for your library and school board meetings when book challenges are debated. Send supportive comments and emails about the Pride book display and Drag Queen story hours. If you see a display you like– for Banned Book Week, AAPI Month, Black History Month, Disability Awareness Month, Jewish holidays, Trans Day of Remembrance– compliment a librarian! Make sure they feel the love stronger than the hate <3
