Film Premise Challenge: One Director, Two Actors, One Genre - Entry Five.
This will be a semi-regular series, where someone has to nominate a Director, minimum of two Actors, and a Genre, preferably ones who have not worked together before. I will then come up with a premise / story based on those parameters. Some of these may be more detailed than others, but overall, it’s mainly a bit of fun. If anybody would like to submit an idea, then please do!
Entry Five, the director nominated is...Guy Ritchie. The nominated actors, of which there were two, are...Mark Strong, and Joseph Fiennes. The chosen genre is...Crime Drama / The Gentlemen sequel.
Guy Ritchie directing a sequel to The Gentlemen, with Mickey Pearson & Raymond Smith controlling London completely. Their cannabis trade has gained the attention of American mobsters who have squeezed out Berger from the first film, the American mobsters offer Mickey & Raymond a path into America, specifically New York, which would earn the London gangsters millions.
The catch is that the mobsters wish to send British representatives who left the UK in the late 90's due to tremendous heat & warrants. Both British representatives are brothers in their 50s, but are renowned for being calculating & cold hearted, with a penchant for horrific violence. The younger is Mark Strong, a loudmouth who unsettles people around him, & the elder is a quietly terrifying Ralph Fiennes.
During a meet with Strong/Fiennes on one side, Mickey/Raymond on the other, the police raid them. Mickey/Raymond escape, only to discover Strong/Fiennes massacred the police force & escaped themselves. As Mickey & Raymond try to distance themselves from the bloodbath, they are contacted discreetly by the American gangsters, demanding that the brothers get safely returned to America. Otherwise, the American gangsters will wage war on London.
But another complication, Mickey's wife Rosalind is discreetly met by the Chief of Police, subtly threatened that unless Mickey helps capture Strong/Fiennes, they will no longer turn a blind eye to his illegitimate business. So now Mickey, Rosalind, Raymond & a reluctant Coach have to track down two psychopaths in Ralph Fiennes & Mark Strong who are waging war on the criminal underworld & police alike, with the protagonists caught between American Mob & the Police Force.
I enjoyed the first film, and would definitely be up for a sequel. What do you all think?
