floyd/riddle valentine's day headcanons 💙❤️
(okay, this post is more overly detailed than i originally planned because i ended up writing a whole scenario about what their first valentine's day after they start dating could be like. but i still want to share it, so here it is.)
riddle is somewhat conflicted about valentine's day. on the one hand, he was always a bit of a romantic, and as a kid there were times when he dreamed that someday he'd have a special someone to spend this holiday with. but he's changed since he was a kid, and regardless of how he might or might not feel, this year he happens to have an exam coming up in a few days and thinks that studying for it would be a more practical use of his time.
besides, floyd will also be busy working at the mostro lounge that evening. each year they hold a special valentine's event with discounts for couples, and floyd seems to be very focused on helping jade and azul plan for it. what makes valentine's day so important, anyway, when the one you love should be special to you every day? they can just go on a date whenever they like.
he still wants to try and respect the rules of the holiday, though. he knows from books he's read that it would be wrong of him not to get his boyfriend a gift, and he also knows that it's a popular tradition to make handmade chocolates for your partner on valentine's day.
so he buys some chocolate-making supplies and molds--the molds are shaped like hearts and roses, so they're sure to make floyd think of riddle when he eats them. and he does the best he can, knowing floyd will still love them even if they're not perfectly made.
he also buys a card with a simple yet elegant red and gold design, and makes sure it's blank inside rather than having a cheesy prewritten message, so that he can write his own message thanking floyd for bringing so much excitement and joy into his life.
the card he picks probably looks something like this:
he plans to take the chocolate and the card, along with one white rose and one red rose from heartslabyul's gardens, to floyd in the morning and see if they can plan to spend a day together after the exam.
while on his way there, he starts to feel a little embarrassed and wonder if the roses are too much. he doesn't really care about the holiday (or so he claims, but he sure did spend a lot of time preparing for it) and surely floyd doesn't care beyond exploiting it for business purposes, so this is a bit silly, isn't it?
wrong! for floyd's part, they don't have valentine's day in the coral sea, so he's actually been pretty excited for it--which riddle had guessed, since for the last few days he's been constantly asking riddle for advice on decorations and menu items for mostro lounge's event as well as spending quite a lot of his spare time there, presumably helping prepare things.
what riddle fails to realize is that floyd's excitement is about far more than just making money at the lounge.
so, riddle is standing outside floyd's door and about to knock when floyd suddenly comes rushing out and absolutely lights up upon seeing riddle there.
he doesn't even give riddle a chance to get a word in before tearing the gifts from his hands, popping a rose-shaped chocolate in his mouth, and doing a goofy little laugh as he tells riddle he loves him. riddle hopes floyd doesn't see the blush on his face.
"goldfishieee!" he exclaims. "i got you something too, and i just know you'll love it!!"
he runs back into his dorm room and comes out holding a small, very messily-wrapped box of store-bought white chocolate truffles, a plushie of a pink hedgehog holding a heart, and an envelope containing one of those fancy pop-out valentine's cards--specifically, one with a goofy pun on it. i'm picturing something like these:
riddle opens the card and rolls his eyes at the pun while trying to pretend that he's not smiling fondly at it.
he's about to ask about their plans when floyd leans over and drapes his arms around riddle's shoulders, and then says that he absolutely has to come to the lounge tonight for a very special surprise.
riddle is genuinely shocked at this, but he agrees, somewhat reluctantly because he's supposed to be studying--but also secretly excited at the thought of floyd having planned something just for him. he has to enlist cater's help to find something decent to wear.
floyd grabs riddle by the arm and drags him over to a table within seconds of him getting to the lounge. jade takes their order, they talk and tease each other and laugh together like they always do, and they also have fun chatting with some of their other friends who are sitting nearby with their own dates.
riddle almost forgets that floyd was supposed to have some kind of surprise for him, until floyd suddenly excuses himself and then shows back up a few minutes later with a small heart-shaped cake, covered in strawberries and other elaborate decorations.
it turned out that floyd had baked and decorated this cake for him. riddle felt guilty because he'd already eaten more than he meant to for the day, and especially because this must have taken much more work than the chocolates and roses he'd given floyd.
he tells him as much but then floyd tells him he's being silly before snatching the fork from his hand and going "if you're not going to eat it then i guess i'll have to!"
riddle feels a flash of anger because floyd can't just try to take his food, there are rules against such a thing. he takes the fork back and tries a bite of the cake, reasoning that it would be rude not to. it's strawberry flavored and possibly the best thing he's ever tasted.
when they leave the lounge that evening, they end up going back to heartslabyul together and for some reason floyd all of a sudden decides that they're playing tag and makes riddle have to chase him into the rose garden.
floyd didn't have any extra surprise for him, he just wanted riddle to keep having fun with him for a little while longer.
at the end of the day, riddle finds that he doesn't regret having lost a bit of study time for this, and he makes sure to tell floyd how grateful he is. he has to admit to himself that maybe there is something special about valentine's day after all.

The Little Leeches Chapter 5: A Day in Town
-----
Floyd was jumpy since he woke up, Azul and Jade could tell. This was their first experience in a human town, in a kingdom no less.
"Floyd, I recommend you calm down, this is a special occasion, yes, but I think you're going to hurt yourself if you do things quickly." Azul warned, helping Jade with a corset. "And we have all day."
Floyd nods and sits down, putting on his shoes on.
Jade smiles at his twin, knowing this excitement was inevitable, considering his twin's background on collecting anything that fell or things that generally caught his attention.
"I'll tell Prince Trey that you two are ready to go,ok?" Azul smiles and walks out the way.
Jade and Floyd looked at each with nervous but happy looks. Floyd was brushing his hair with the dinglehopper, looking in the mirror. Jade just watched and was putting on a nice purple clip.
They walked out, ready as they ever been, Martha waiting.
She gasp."You two are so cute! Come on now, everyone's waiting for you."
Martha leads them to the entrance where everyone was waiting, Riddle getting ready to use the carriage and Trey managing the horses.
Floyd's eyes widen as he rushed over to a horse and examine them, touching their snouts.
"Floyd, I recommend you be careful." Trey laughed, helping Jade on."Horses may be nice but they are dangerous if you bother them."
Floyd gets on and smiles, sitting next to Riddle.
"So, Floyd," Riddle sighs."I want you to be careful and not run off while we are in town, alright? But we will go do anywhere you want to."
Floyd smiles and holds Riddle's hand.
"Now, hang on tight."
With a whip of the leashes, the carriage began moving out the castle and towards the forest, with Azul, Jade and Floyd looking around in confusion.
"It is very beautiful here." Azul said.
"Wait till it's fall, the leaves are a much better view."Riddle chuckles."Or even spring. They change very frequently, it goes along with the seasons.."
Floyd carefully got up and takes a leaf.
"Right now, it's summer, meaning the leaves are a green, a dark green."
Riddle laughs at Floyd's excitement and grabbing more leaves during their ride."Hey! Don't take so many, Floyd."
Jade sighs in relaxation, looking at the beautiful scenery. It makes him feel very relaxed during a very stressful situation.
Trey sees and carefully hold Jade's hand."Enjoying the scenery?"
Jade nods and looks at him.
"This scenery does suit you, like a portrait."
Jade silently laughs and held his hand back, watching the water of a nearby stream reflect the leaves and the sun.
----
Riddle was silently apologizing to Floyd's parents for the past hour. Floyd's actions were like a child's, running around and grabbing things that he wasn't supposed to.
Floyd really took a puppet from a person, and Riddle had to apologize.
"Floyd, please don't touch stuff that you are not allowed to touch,ok?"
Floyd nods, looking down
"Hey, don't be sad. I'm glad you are enjoying yourself, and the surface." Riddle walked over to a nearby stand."How about we grab something as a souvenir?"
Floyd smiles and looked at the stand.
"Anything is yours, just choose."
Floyd grabbed a yellow jeweled necklace and smiles at Riddle.
"That brings out your eyes, Floyd. Hey, sir, may I buy this?"
As Riddle converse with the salesperson, Floyd eyes immediately saw a opportunity. He saw a box with a rose gold ring with a white jewel, an engagement ring. He quickly took it and puts it in his pocket with arousing suspicion and looks down, waiting for Riddle to be done.
He smiles to himself, knowing that his afternoon plans were on the table.
But, of course, Floyd looks at something shiny and followed it, leaving Riddle with the salesperson.
"Thank you, sir. Floyd, I got the..are you kidding me!? How did he even run off!" Riddle growled and began looked around for the wondering eel.
----
"Are they good?" Trey asked, as Jade was trying some new foods that Trey recommended to him.
Jade nodded as he ate strawberry shortcake for the first time, his face filled with delight.
"Strawberry Shortcake are also my favorite dessert. In the gardens, I have a strawberry bush so I can grow and make strawberry based desserts."
Jade smiles and takes a sip of water.
"Oh, sorry. I'm just rambling on, am I?"
Jade shakes his hand and gives him a spoonful of strawberry shortcake that Trey happily accepted.
"I do have other dessert that may tingle your taste buds." Trey got up and walks over to the dessert stand again.
Jade watched as a small band played nice music and everyone around him started to dance along with the music. With interest Jade got up and pulled Trey onto the dance floor.
"A dance? Alright?"
They danced like they've been dancing together, Jade perfectly perfected his dance from what he saw from others and also follows Trey's movements.
"Are you a natural?" Asked Trey, keeping Jade close.
Jade shakes his head with a smile and looks at him.
"Really? You seem like a natural dancer to me."
After a small dance they went back to their seats, Jade continued his food.
"I'll be honest, Jade. You are honestly amazing.." Trey muttered softly."For someone who never danced..you are natural."
Jade smiles again, his face pink with joy.
"Hey, how about after we eat, we go on a small boat ride? Just you and me?"
Jade nods and looks over at the docks.
"Don't worry, I'll help you with anything."
Jade just kept smiling as he listened to Trey ramble on.
----
"Can you not wander off when you see something new?" Riddle sighs at Floyd, who was admiring the necklace he choose.
After finding Floyd, which took him at least 30 minutes, they arrived at the carriage, waiting for the others to arrive, but it was just them for now.
"Did you have fun?"He asked Floyd.
Floyd nodded repeatedly.
"That's great. But please don't wander again..you got me worried."
Floyd face immediately turned sad and holds Riddle's hand and mouthed an apology.
"It's alright. It's understandable why you would wander off..you finally got to be here. And how was it?"
Floyd extended his arms with a huge smile.
"Fun."
Now it was just them, and only them. Riddle didn't mind that.
Floyd turned and shook Riddle, pointing towards Jade and Trey, sailing on a small boat.
"How about we go to pass the time?" Riddle offered his hand, Floyd grabbing and running over and tried to wave over to the others while Riddle got the boat ready.
Floyd and Riddle got on and they started to sail after them.
Jade was admiring the scenery again, but with the fireflies illuminating the trees and the vines along with them. His hand couldn't help but feel the water beneath them.
"You know.." Trey started,"I'm glad you came here. For this past week, I've been set on finding you after what happened, but I couldn't start. Now I don't need to, since you are here."
He grabbed Jade's hands and held them tenderly.
"And I'm so happy you came to me..."
No words could even been said between them as the air spoke for itself.
"Jade..I lo-"
Trey's sentence was interrupted by the boat suddenly swaying and tilting over, with both people falling in the water.
"How in the.." gasped Riddle, as he row over there."Are you two ok!?"
Floyd helped them up, trying to keep Jade warm.
"Yeah, we're fine..but Jade's getting cold..we should going soon."
As Riddle began to row away, Floyd's eyes drifted down to water as he spotted a familiar squid.
He gasp and looked at Jade, pointing at the water in panic.
After they docked, Trey was helping Jade keep warm as Floyd was looking back at the water, wondering if he did see Zephyr, and if so..why was he there.
"It's off to see a blood squid nearby this area. They are found pretty deep in the sea." Riddle said, getting the horses ready."But it seems that it's bothering you, Floyd."
Floyd looked back.
Azul walked by, panting softly.
"What took you so long, Azul? It's very rude to be late."
Azul sighs."It's a long story.."
----
Azul isn't the one to admit a problem, especially caused by him.
But he was lost. Absolutely, positively..lost.
How did he get lost? He has no idea.
He kept looking around, hoping to find some way out and to even find the village.
His thoughts were interrupted as a small hand tapped his arm.
"Hey," said a fairly young voice."Are you lost?"
He saw a kid, who looked about 12 years, holding a basket of stuff, which can food, to supplies.
"Yes..I am." He admitted, looking down."But how are you here?"
"I live nearby. Maybe my brother can help you more than I can." He smiles and takes Azul's arm and leads him deeper into the woods.
"My name's Ortho! What's yours?"
"Azul."
"That's great."
He leads him to a small home, nice and cozy. Ortho opened the door, setting his basket down.
"Big Brother! I'm home!" He cried to the house.
Someone came out from the kitchen. A person who should've gone more sleep, Azul thought. But he walks over and gave the boy a hug.
"Why did you bring a stranger?"
"Oh! He was lost so I thought we can help him."
Azul smiles."My name is Azul, sir."
"I'm..I'm Idia Shroud. And welcome to my house. So what brings you to the woods?"
"I was in the village with a couple of friends. And I got lost in the way and we were supposed to be meet by the carriage and-"
"I can lead you there." Idia said, looking down. "There's only one place to royal carriage. I'll show you..is that ok?"
Azul smiles and nods."Thank you, Idia. You'll be a great help."
Idia gets himself ready and looks down."Ortho, just stay out ok? I already made some food for you in case you got hungry when you came back."
Ortho beamed and smiles."Ok! Have fun!"
Idia walked out, followed by Azul.
"So..is he your brother?"
"Yes..he is..my parents are home on a sailor expedition at the moment so it's just us for now."
"...you don't go out much."
"Was it too obvious?"
Azul nods."You are avoiding eye contact."
"I don't like staring at other's eyes..I get scared."
"Don't worry, I won't judge you about it. I'm happy you helped me, Idia."
The rest was an awkward silence but Idia pointed to the carriage."There it is."
Azul sighs in relief."Thank you, Idia."
Idia just nodded and slowly walkss off.
Azul began running over.
----
They were back before Queen Icabeth could make a fuss about them being late for dinner, which was a plus to Riddle's day.
He was getting ready for dinner, like everyone else.
Floyd however was still distraught about seeing Zephyr and tapped Azul.
"Yes?"
Floyd knew he couldn't exactly explain what happened but his movements of a squid made it obvious.
"You saw Zephyr? What was he doing there?"
Floyd thought then he looks over at Jade and use his hands for make a turning movement.
"Floyd Leech..are you saying that Zephyr tilted Trey and Jade? I told you, my aunt is sneaky. Sending her minion to mess up your chances."
Floyd sighs and looks over at Jade again, who has heard.
"Both of you need to be quick..she may gave you 2 weeks, but she'll not make them easy."
Floyd and Jade nods.
The bell rung throughout the palace, meaning dinner was officially ready.
"Let's discuss this after dinner."
They walked in and sat down.
"How was your day at the town?" Julius asked.
"It was great, Floyd had a great time. So had Jade." Riddle answered, eating his food.
"Wonderful!"
Floyd looks around and remembered what Azul said and immediately stood up.
"Hey..may you please sit down?" Icabeth asked.
Floyd looks over at Riddle and taps his shoulder.
"Floyd? May you please sit down?" Riddle asked.
Floyd sighs and gets on one knee and gulps. He closes his eyes and presents his ring to Riddle.
Everyone gasp and looked at them both.
Riddle smiles and his eyes began to widen and water.
"..is this for me?" He started to say. Floyd nodded and smiles."You are proposing..to me!?"
Riddle begins and nods happily."Yes...yes, Floyd."
"Really!?" Floyd's voice rang throughout the room
