MUSICGENDER: NOW WITH COLORS?

Musicgender is a subcategory of audiogender. It's an umbrella term for any gender that is related to, or can be described using music theory. It should not be confused with musicagender, which is a gender described by a specific genre of music, whereas musicgender uses ideas from music theory to describe gender and is not related to any one genre. It should also not be confused with musigender, which is a gender that feels like or is connected to music itself rather than music theory.

In order: Genderpianissimo (genderpp), genderforte, genderfortissimo, genderdynamics, gendernatural, gendersharp, genderflat, gendermajor, genderminor, clefgender, glissgender.

A while back we came across a number of musicgender flags and decided we would add some color to them in order to be able to use them in icons and such. The original flags all had the same color scheme, so they looked virtually identical when used in icons. Hopefully this makes them a bit more distinct and visually interesting.

Colors don't really mean anything; we have synesthesia so... yeah.

These aren't all the musicgenders out there, of course, these are just a small selection of them. We may make more in the future; orignally these were meant for personal use but I figured we'd share them.

I don't know how many of the other musicgenders coined have flags; if they don't then we might try our hand at making some. (Note that the coining post says musigender instead of musicgender, as used in this post and most other posts referencing a music-theory-based gender system.)

hello, i hope you don’t mind if i make a submission for this. i made this for musicgender in general, it is meant to look like the start of a sheet of music.

there are a lot of variations to music gender, but i would like to share some ideas of how to make flags for them, based on suggestions from me and my friends who also identify as these terms. the basic idea is to just take the musicgender flag above, and just place appropriate musical symbols on top to represent specific genders.

for instance genderbass, gendertreble, and genderalto can be the appropriate clefs for each one, while genderclef could show all three. similar idea to use musical symbols for gendersharp, genderflat, gendernatural, genderpp, genderforte, genderfortissimo, and genderdynamics (could use symbols for crescendo or decrescendo or both).

melogender can be a random number of notes on different bar placements, while genderbeat can be just a line of notes on the same bar.

one of my friends who identifies as immemorgender said it would be cool to just have a set of guitar string overall the music bars, from top to bottom.

pitchgender can just be represented by Hz, the shorthand for hertz which is a unit of measurement for pitch/sound.

gendermajor and genderminor, there is mentions of symbols for major and minor here.

We’re not sure what to do for gendernocturne and gendersonata, but if my friends who id as those come up with anything, i’ll let you know.

So I messed up and didn’t realize there’s already a general musicgender flag (but none of the others)

I do like the idea of making alternatives that are customizable that have a more music-sheet feel as well, since the color meanings for the above just mean ‘girl, boy, and nonbinary.

I’m worried about the flag you posted causing confusion though since it looks almost exactly like a regular sheet of music.

There are multiple genders related to music, so I’ll list them here and if none of them work for you, you’re welcome to coin something!

Musicgender/Musigender: a catchall term for any gender that is related to musicianship or music theory

Cadensgender: A gender that’s easily influenced by music.

Electronigender: A subset of cadensgender associated to electronic music

Punque: a gender characterized by the punk aesthetic, fashion, culture, music and attitude. Can be used as a descriptor or as a noun.

Psygender: A gender that feels like psytrance music or affected/influenced by listening psychedelic trance.

Industrialgender: A subset of Cadensgender but specifically relates to Industrial music.

Electrogender: A subset of Cadensgender but specifically relates to EDM.

Technogender: A subset of Cadensgender but specifically relates to Techno music.

Kairgender: A musicgender for very cheery, light, whimsical, and instrumental music.

Genderfortissimo: A gender that is extremely loud or prominent, could be another term for gender like maverique but that is still connected to music.

Genderpp / Genderpianissirno: A gender that is very soft; could be that is is extremely close to or is agender.

Genderdynamics: The experience of genderfluidity specific to genderflux, where one feels their gender “crescendo” (get louder/more prominent) and “decrescendo” (get softer/less prominent) Could also be said to fluctuate between genderpiano. genderpp, genderforte genderfortissimo, or other dynamical genders.

Gendersharp: A gender that feels sharp or higher “pitched” than before.

Genderflat: A gender that feels flat or at a lower “pitch” than before.

Gendernatural: A gender that is currently neither sharp nor flat.

Genderpitch: A type of genderfluid that feels as if it changes pitch.

Gendermajor: A gender that feels bright and happy, or other terms you use to describe major keys.

Genderminor: A gender that feels solemn, blue, or deep, or other terms you use to describe minor keys.
