Special Day

Pairings: Various Genshin Men x Isekai'd!Reader

Summary: It's a special day for you, and the men are determined to make you a birthday cake before the clock strikes midnight.

Note: This is a mini-ish fanfic, so not many things will happen in this story. I think I had a few questions in the past about how the Genshin men would celebrate the reader's birthday, and this is what I came up with before having to go to bed! I hope you all like this mini-ish fic ;v; also, for the sake of the plot, Aether, Lumine, and the reader do not share birthdays. I don't post anywhere else but on Tumblr (Genshinluvr) and on AO3 (Aaliah_exo).

It was an hour and thirty minutes before midnight at the abode. The estate is engulfed in darkness with little night lights plugged into the outlets to give some light to the dark mansion; bedroom doors are closed, and everyone is sound asleep. Well, you’re sound asleep while the other inhabitants of the estate peek their heads from their bedrooms, their eyes trying to adjust to the darkness.

“Can someone check if [Y/N]’s asleep?” Aether whispers loudly.

“I’m on it!” Heizou whispers. 

Heizou slowly steps out of his bedroom and tip-toes to where your bedroom is located. Heizou grabs onto the door handle and slowly turns the knob. Heizou peeks his head into your bedroom. The night light plugged into the corner of your bedroom beneath your desk gives your bedroom a soft glow. The light wasn’t too harsh, but it was bright enough to light that area of your room.

Heizou looks over at your bed and sees you cuddled up against your body pillow; hair splayed on your silk pillow, mouth slightly agape, and a small stream of drool coming out of your mouth. Heizou giggles silently behind his hands. If only he could take a picture of your current state without waking you up.

“So? Are they asleep?” Venti whispers.

Heizou slowly backs away from your bedroom and closes the door behind him. Heizou turns around and gives the men a thumbs up, signaling that you’re asleep. The men walk out of their bedrooms before making their way down the stairs. One by one, they all crept down the stairs, trying their best not to wake you up with the sound of their footsteps making their way down the wooden steps of the estate.

Thoma turns the kitchen lights on, and the light flood the area with blinding lights. Everyone shields their eyes from the brightness and waits for a moment for their eyes to adjust to the brightness. Thoma walks to the pantry and pulls out the ingredients. Eggs, all-purpose flour, milk, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, oil, vanilla extract, and expresso powder.

“What flavor should the cake be?” Albedo asks.

“We should go with a default flavor because I’m not sure if everyone likes chocolate or not,” Gorou says, brushing his hands through his bedhead.

“So, vanilla?” Kaeya asks, raising his eyebrows at Gorou. Gorou nods his head in response.

Itto clears his throat. “I don’t think we should go for vanilla because not only is it a basic flavor, but it’s also boring.” 

Childe lets out a frustrated sigh. “Okay, then what flavor should we go with then?” He crosses his arms over his bare chest, attempting to rub the sleep out of his eyes.

“We should make the cake [Y/N]’s favorite flavor. After all, it’ll be [Y/N]’s birthday in less than an hour, and we need to get started before it’s midnight.” Ayato interjects.

“And do you know what cake flavor they prefer?” Dainsleif asks, raising an eyebrow at Ayato. Ayato went silent and pursed his lips together, unsure what to say. I mean, what is Ayato supposed to say? Ever since you arrived in Teyvat, you didn’t mention specific flavors of cakes. Even if it’s one of the men’s birthdays, you’re willing to eat all kinds of cake they have picked out for their special day. 

Thoma sighs and opens the bag of flour before pulling the measuring cup and spoons from the kitchen drawers. “I’m going to make a chocolate cake for [Y/N]’s birthday. We can decide on the decoration after because we don’t have enough time,” said Thoma. The men crowd around Thoma and begin helping Thoma with baking your birthday cake. Every few minutes, Kazuha would glance over at the clock hung up on the wall to see what time it was. Even though they technically don’t need to finish baking and decorating the cake precisely by midnight, they wanted it to be special for you.

“Can’t we do this in the morning? I don’t think [Y/N] will appreciate being roused from their sleep to blow out candles.” Xiao grumbles.

“While I agree with you on the part where [Y/N] doesn’t like being roused from their sleep, I believe that it’s more special when [Y/N] blow out their birthday candles once it’s midnight,” Kazuha says, helping Thoma mix the cake batter while Thoma puts in a few drops of vanilla extract into the mixture.

“Al Haitham, where’s Kaveh?” Tighnari asks.

Scaramouche furrows his eyebrows in confusion. “Kaveh? Is Kaveh coming over to celebrate [Y/N]’s birthday too?” He asks, preheating the oven.

Al Haitham rolls his eyes. “That idiot must’ve been lost on the way. I’ll be right back.” Al Haitham sighs before walking to the front door of the estate.

Diluc looks over at Cyno, Tighnari, and Scaramouche with confusion. “Who is Kaveh, and why is he coming to the abode?”

Cyno sighs and rubs his temples. “Kaveh is Al Haitham’s roommate. I believe that Al Haitham is making Kaveh stand in front of [Y/N]’s room to make sure they don’t wake up while we’re still making their birthday cake.” 

Zhongli steps between the small group and press his index finger against his lips. “Be sure to keep your voices down. [Y/N] is a light sleeper and can wake up to any sound.” Zhongli murmurs.

“Most of us can keep our volumes down; others, I’m not so sure about,” Pantalone says, walking into the kitchen with the other three Harbingers following behind.

“Are you all done with the mixture? It’ll take about thirty to thirty-five minutes for the cake to be baked. I’m not sure how long it’ll take for us all to decorate the cake before midnight.” Pierro says, walking over to look at the cake batter in the mixing bowl.

“We’re almost done. We have things pre-measured, so it didn’t take too long to get the right measurements of each ingredient for the cake batter,” Thoma answers, lightly tapping the whisk on the mixing bowl to get the excess off the whisk.

Dottore hums, leaning up against the kitchen entrance. “And what cake flavor are we going for? It looks… interesting.” Dottore chuckles.

Scaramouche rolls his eyes. “Isn’t it obvious by the smell and look of the cake batter? It’s chocolate, you numbskull.” 

Capitano shakes his head and lightly smacks Dottore upside of his head. “You’re riling them up on purpose.” 

Dottore gasps. “Me? Rile them up on purpose? I would never!” Dottore says dramatically, letting out an exaggerated huff of breath.

Zhongli glares at the Harbingers. Before Zhongli could say anything, the front door of the estate opened. Al Haitham walks into the mansion with an irritated look on his face while dragging in a tall blond male by the sleeve of his shirt.

“You’re such an idiot, Kaveh. Now that we’re back at the estate, make sure [Y/N] doesn’t wake up from their sleep while we’re getting the cake ready.” Al Haitham instructs, pointing at the stairs that lead up to the second floor of the mansion.

Kaveh stares at Al Haitham blankly. “How am I going to make sure that they’re still asleep when I don’t know where their room is at.” Kaveh crosses his arms over his chest with a small scowl on his face.

“Their bedroom is the only door that is closed. The other bedrooms in the estate are open.” Cyno answers from the kitchen.

Kaveh looks over at Cyno and gives him a nod. “Thank you, Cyno. You’re more helpful than Al Haitham.” Kaveh and Al Haitham make a face at each other before parting ways.

Kaveh walks up the wooden stairs of the estate, making sure that he isn’t making any noises that could disturb you from your slumber. Once he reaches the second floor of the mansion, Kaveh sees your closed bedroom door. Kaveh strides to the door and grabs the door handle; when he twists the knob and opens the door, he is met with you standing at the door, rubbing your eyes sleepily. Kaveh nearly jumps out of his skin, his heart racing against his chest.

“Why are you awake!?” Kaveh whispers loudly.

You look up at Kaveh sleepily. “Who are you, and why are you in my house?” You mumble. “And to answer your question, I have to pee.” You said, attempting to walk out of your bedroom.

“Oh, no, you don’t!” Kaveh grabs you by your forearm and pulls you back into your bedroom. “My name’s Kaveh, and I’m Al Haitham’s roommate! And you have a bathroom in your bedroom, so I’m not sure why you’re leaving your room to go pee.” Kaveh says, sitting you down on your bed.

“Al Haitham has a roommate? Interesting, I did not know that.” You mumble, still half asleep. “Anyway, I’m going to go pee now, and you better be gone by the time I get back.” You announce. You got up from your bed and lightly tapped him on the back of his head while making your way to the bathroom.

Five minutes later, you emerge from the bathroom and see that Kaveh is still in your room, looking at your plush collection with scrutiny. Too tired to deal with Kaveh, you walk to your bed and collapse onto it, wrapping your arms and legs around the cold body pillow with a sigh of contentment.

“You can leave now, Kaveh. I don’t even know why you’re at the estate at such hours, but since you’re Al Haitham’s roommate, I’ll give you a pass.” You mumble, slowly drifting off to sleep.

Kaveh nods his head. “Yes, please go back to sleep, or else I’ll have to knock you out myself.” Kaveh sighs, rubbing the back of his neck.

You sit up on your bed. “Oh? Is that so? Well, how would you like it if I’m telling on you!” You said, scrambling to get up from your bed.

“Oh, no, you don’t, you little stubborn shit,” Kaveh says, rushing over to you and wrapping his arms around your waist before dragging you back to bed. “You’re not going to disturb the others from their sleep with your little abyss mage activities.” Kaveh tosses you on your bed before laying down on your bed, caging you with his arms and legs.

“Wait, did you just indirectly call me a gremlin?” You ask, looking up at Kaveh.

Silence falls between you two. “Yeah, and what about it?” Kaveh huffs, forcing you to lay your head down on your pillow. “Now go back to sleep.” 

You snort. “I like you, Kaveh.” You pat his cheeks lightly. “Although I would advise you not to put your hands on me, I will be a gremlin and bite you if you do.” You joked.

“I dare you to do it.” Kaveh states.

You go silent and think for a moment. Either waste your time bickering with Al Haitham’s roommate or get plenty of sleep before the next day. You chose the latter. You let out a huff and turned around for your back to face Kaveh’s direction. Kaveh smiles triumphantly and looks over at the door of your bedroom, mentally praying to the dendro archon for the men to be finished with your cake already.

After what felt like three hours, Kaveh heard footsteps approaching your bedroom. Kaveh looks up at the door and makes eye contact with Childe. Childe’s eyes begin to twitch at the sight of Kaveh lying on your bed, right beside you, as you sleep peacefully. Childe tightens his hands into fists. He takes a deep breath and walks into your room, ignoring Kaveh’s presence.

Childe kneels in front of you and lightly shakes you from your slumber. You mumble in your sleep and turn away from Childe, only to face Kaveh. Childe’s eyes twitch again, trying to remain calm.

“[Y/N], wake up,” Childe whispers, shaking you once more.

You mumble in your sleep and crack your eyes open, looking around your room with bleary eyes. You slowly sit up from your bed, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. 

“What time is it?” You ask, yawning into the palm of your hands.

“Time for you to get your ass up out of bed and go downstairs,” Kaveh says, getting off your bed and stretching his limbs. 

Childe shoots a glare in Kaveh’s direction. “Come here with me; it’ll be a few minutes.” He grabs onto your hands and pulls you out of your bed.

“I’m tired, though.” You grumble, wrapping your arms around Childe’s waist. Childe walks you down the stairs of the abode, his right hand covering your eyes. “Kaveh called me an abyss mage. Childe, can you kick his ass for me? I don’t think I can beat a vision holder's ass.” You mutter.

Childe snorts. “Of course, snookums! I’ll gladly beat his ass for you, my love!” Childe kisses the top of your head before glaring over at Kaveh.

Once the three of you have reached the dining area, Childe guides you to the table and helps you sit down in the chair without accidentally burning your hair. Childe still has his hands over your eyes; Childe motions for the other men to come closer. 

“Are you ready for the reveal?” Childe asks.

“Yes, I am! I’m kind of nervous and tired, but I am ready!” You answered.

Childe slowly takes his hands from your eyes, and you slowly open your eyes. Your eyes widen at your surroundings. Birthday decorations are hung around the dining room; a massive chocolate birthday cake sits in front of you, and the men around you are still in their pajamas but are wearing birthday hats atop their heads.

“SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [Y/N]!” Everyone screams.

You pout and cover your face. “You guys stayed up late to make me a birthday cake?” You ask softly.

“That’s correct! What do you think?” Gorou asks, his tail wagging with excitement.

You let your hands fall into your lap. “I love it, thank you all.” You feel your lips quivering.

Itto’s eyes widen. “No, no, no! Don’t cry now! You shouldn’t cry on your special day!” Itto rushes to your side and kneels in front of you. He wraps his arms around your waist and buries his face into the crook of your neck. You whine softly and rub Itto’s bare back.

“How can I not cry when this is the sweetest thing someone has ever done for me?” You ask softly.

“It’s almost midnight. Do you want to make a wish before it’s officially your birthday?” Ayato asks, resting his hand on the table.

“[Y/N] can make a wish after we sing them a birthday song!” Aether says, making a “duh” face.

The men mutter in agreement before singing you a birthday song. It turns out they did not think it through, and the birthday song was completely different from each person. You snort and shake your head. They all make a face after the song ends and look over at you with anticipation.

“Oh! Right, wishes. I’m going to make a birthday wish now.” You clear your throat and turn to the birthday candles. “One year older now, huh.” You sigh softly. You close your eyes and clasp your hands together, mouthing the words to yourself.

“I wish I can stay here forever. I feel at home here; I feel safe here, and I am loved here. I want to stay here for the rest of my life, happy and in the arms of the men that care about me.” You open your eyes and blow out the candles. The clock strikes midnight and begins to chime. The men around you cheered, clapped, and blew party horns.

“Happy birthday, my love!”

“Happy birthday, dearest!”

“Happy birthday, honey!”

“Happy birthday, Windblume!”

“It’s officially your birthday! Happy birthday, cutie!”

“Happy birthday, snookums! Let me be the first one to give you some birthday kisses.” 

Today is your birthday, and you’re going to celebrate it with the people you love and care about. The men around you surround you to give you birthday kisses and hugs. You feel your heart swell up in your chest and hug each and every single one of them tightly.

Note: I know the mini-ish fanfic is sudden and random, but I have decided to make it anyway because why not? I'm not sure if I mentioned that I was going to be posting two fanfics (well, one mini fanfic and one long fanfic), but here is the first fic out of two! The second one will be posted at the usual time/day. hi! i adore all of ur fics but especially seven prayers to seven archons it's definitely my favourite genshin fanfic ever asdjfk as someone who's attempting to do something similar but for reverse 1999, could u please give some tips on characterization?? thank you!!

Thank you so much! Characterisation is something I spend a lot of time on and take a lot of pride in, and I am immensely proud of fics like Seven Prayers and Lynette in Repose and (spoilers!) the final act of No Bird an Island. I don't have a formal process for how I do characterisation but my recommendation is focusing on character voice.

Not voice as in "how do they talk"?, but voice as in "how do they think"?. (I tend to write from within their POV.)

What mental habits come so naturally to the character that they don't notice it half the time? (Perhaps Sonetto filters everything through "what would Vertin do?". Perhaps Lisa Minci measures every decision by how much time she spends standing. Perhaps Kaeya is constantly evaluating "am I safe with these people?".)

What's their baggage? What do their thoughts constantly drift back to despite their best efforts? (Is Kazuha haunted by his "failure" to save Tomo? Is Ningguang haunted by her painful childhood?)

What do they value?

What do they think common sense is?

This isn't the whole picture for characterisation. At best it's, like, 30% of it. But it's a good foundation to start from, because it tells you a lot about how they think, how they talk, how they decide.

Reading in-game dialogue or writing from that character helps a lot. Ditto listening to voice acting — although for R1999 the EN VAs often sound like Elder Scrolls NPCs (derogatory) so I'm not sure they're given much extra insight to work with.

This might be a controversial take for all the Genshin fans who see Wriothesley with his gauntlets and his handcuffs and his red and black outfit and see a dom sort of character, but I believe I’ve figured out his character after seeing the latest 4.1 trailer, and he’s not what we thought he was.

Wriothesley is not a Jason Todd/Red Hood. He’s not a hunky bad boy with a heart of gold, he’s not a rough and tough guy who don’t play by the Iudex’s rules. He’s not Vi from Arcane, despite the fighting style.

Wriothesley is Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. He’s very diligent, he’s a great manager, everyone working under him likes and respects him a lot, and he’s rather straight-laced, preferring to stick to protocol unless absolutely necessary, at which point he’ll resort to punching the problem. He probably doesn’t get out much anymore, usually staying at the Fortress of Meropide, so he wouldn’t be a smooth talker like a lot of the fanfics depict him as. He probably has a cold and stoic exterior hiding a heart of pure gold, so it would probably take a bit for him to show more of his true personality. He’s down to earth, honest, hardworking, and resourceful. He’s probably got a strict moral code, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to understand the inmates under his care. He may look scary, and he may be an absolute terror in a fight, but that’s all just the tip of the Wriothesley iceberg.

Tighnari; slow sex

Tighnari's name was always at the tip of your tongue, he wasn't even going that fast maybe that's what made it so pleasing. The subtle sound of skin snapping when he finally buried himself inside of you, keeping up that lovely pace as he let out groans that poured into the air. With your legs wrapped around him the reflex to just squeeze whenever he slid all of him into you, the long thrusts allowed him to reach your deepest parts. Brushing along that sweet spot then hitting it exactly when he wanted to get that cute little sound to escape from you. The best part was when you were near your climax and he kept the same speed, even if he could reach his by speeding up it took an ungodly amount of control to keep the same speed. His groans trickled into something more needy and strained as he neared the end.

Besides why would he rush? The build up made the release way more enjoyable.
