Even before she earned her PhD, Pamela Isley was a passionate climate activist. Her mentor Dr. Woodrue, however, would convince her to use her unparalleled genius for botany to aid his group of eco-terrorists. She developed composts and engineered weeds to encourage wild plant growth and inhibit land development, and extracted her plants’ toxins to make smoke bombs and knock-out gas.
As Pamela was pulled deeper and deeper into a life of eco-terrorism, she was exposed to more and more of her own unstable toxins. Somehow, however, her body eventually reached an equilibrium, accepting the plant matter as part of her system, but leaving her physically sickly and mentally unstable. Her actions became ever more radical. Land-reclaiming weeds led to building-swallowing vines, knock-out gas to hallucinogens and nerve poison. And the more dangerous the chemicals, the more she was affected in a vicious cycle. When she started murdering Ace Chemical employees en masse, her team knew it was time to cut and run. But she had long since stopped caring about them. The last they heard of their mad cohort she was babbling about “the green” calling out to her...
Today, Poison Ivy continues to develop all sorts of dangerous new plants to further her goals and dispose of her enemies. But her mutated physiology makes her far from harmless herself. She is immune to all kinds of poison and numb to all pain, her own bodily fluids have become toxic to normal humans, and her mutated pheromones make her highly persuasive to all but the strongest of wills. What will her powers blossom into as she continues her experiments? Only time will tell…

📢Psychonauts NSR AU, Chapter 8: LARS Rap 2📢
After the concert. Milla and Sasha decided to get something to eat. They got their burgers. And decided to have a chat about the concert they just hijacked.
“Camilla?” Sasha asked.
“Yeah? Is everything alright?” She asked.
“I was wondering… are we taking this Revolution too far?” Sasha asked.
“I… I don’t know.” Milla responded. “But we had to do what was right, we had to take down the NSR artists. And there are still more to go.” Milla replied.
“I know, I’ve been thinking about what we did to Lili.” Sasha responded. “We broke an instrument. We broke what made her popular. Don’t you think that it’s incredibly wrong of us to do this?” Sasha explained.
“That might be. But what we’re doing is right. We want to bring back rock. And that’s that.” Milla explained. Sasha couldn’t help just rub his temple, then he heard a noise. A noise that was very familiar, a noise that made him very angry.
“Oh hell no.” Sasha spoke. He then immediately left, with Milla following behind him.
~
They arrived at the alley way and saw LARS. Sasha was incredibly annoyed to see his father.
“Ah, Sasha! Wo bist du gewesen? Gerade auf der Toilette geweint? Wie das letzte Mal, als ich versehentlich eine abgelaufene Zutat verwendet habe? Du weißt, dass ich es manchmal vergesse, richtig?” LARS asked.
“Dad, look, we must stop this.” Sasha replied. “There are bigger things we need to deal with here.” He explained.
“Like what? Versuchst du, ein anderes Mädchen zu fischen?” LARS asked. “Sind Hollis und Milla nicht genug? Sascha, so frech.” Lars asked again.
“UGH! Das ist es! I’m here trying to be civil about this and you. Your mouth keeps spewing all of kinds of garbage!” Sasha yelled.
“Sasha, calm down.” Milla replied to Sasha.
“No, Milla! This guy needs to know that it’s not my fault he became a deadbeat!” Sasha snapped back.
“Autsch, das tat ziemlich weh. Warum nimmst du nicht diese Wut und stellst dich mir in… einem Rap-Battle!” LARS explained.
“Stop it! You’re not gonna pull that stunt on me again—”
“I’ll go first!” LARS interrupted.
“God fucking dammit!” Sasha cussed, the rap battle was on.
~
LARS:
Even when you messed me up in life
It never killed me, it gave me strife
I stood strong and grew larger
My vocabulary, it was extraordinary
My roots were sewn deep from the underground
I was centered on ground zero
No cash, no money all around me
Though it ruled the world all around me
I grew big, I grew strong, my rap game was so on
From the seed, grew an empire, my words spit fire
Through the city, I made sure everyone knew who LARS was
Aha aha!
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
Sasha:
Hey Lars, my father, I meant no disorder
We got bigger issues to deal
Than past life ordeals
NSR the evil empire
We gotta bring them down
Kill ‘em with fire
Seal them with music
Put our differences aside
And bring our powers together
For a ride
For a ride
For a ride
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
LARS:
Easy for you to say Sasha
You make me want to look aha
Forget all our past
But it has not passed / yet
In college, you wanted to be president
Rule all the residents
But your heart was never noble
You just did it to get back at me
It stemmed from your jealousy
Your never ending rivalry
Well, Imma bring my cavalry
My rhymes loaded with poetry
My words laced with symmetry
My rhythms pure artistry
What you got besides
Oh yeah, nothingry aha!
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
Sasha:
Ah Dad you only know anger and violence
Remember when those NSR fans burned down your car
You dissed them and hissed them
Till they missed their own sanity
And acted out with profanity
To light up your car
And see it burn
And see it burn
Coz you lit their desire
Of hate towards yourself
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
LARS:
My rivalry with NSR was the tipping point
I left Vinyl City, no one had to force me
I gave Ford the Horn of Mending
For if he ever wanted to reconcile
He could blow the horn
And I would accept his apology
No worries, no problem, and that ain’t an analogy
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
Sasha:
Your solution to everything is just run run run
You ran away from NSR
You ran away from Vinyl City
You ran away from home
You ran away from me
When I was more popular than you
You couldn’t stand it through and through
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
Lars:
Hey Sasha stop blaming me all the time
If you weren’t so jealous
We wouldn’t be so messed up
It’s your fault our relationship was ruined
SASHA’S Fault
Take responsibility for your irresponsibility
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
Sasha:
I tried my best to keep in touch with you
But you never replied, radio silence zero decibels
So when you say it’s my fault
The heck I am pissed for your blame
I ain’t taking the blame for your own thing
In fact forget this, forget you
You’re no father of mine
I disown you, we ain’t related
You’re no father
You’re no father
You ain’t no father of mine!
Crowd:
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best
L-A-R-S
He is the best

After the rap battle, LARS was shaking. Shaking by what Sasha, his own son had said.
“Sasha. I’m no father huh?” LARS chuckled. “Yeah weißt du… ich geh einfach zurück… zu mir nach Hause.” he said. “LARS out!” he cried.
“Good! You better leave!” Sasha responded. This caused Milla to look very worried.
“Sasha…” Milla responded.
“What?” Sasha asked.
“You’re no father? How can you say something like that?” Milla asked.
“I tried to be nice Milla. I’ve looked up to him all mu life and for no reason he reats me like garbage! Who do you think has been trying to reach out to him all year. ALL YEAR LONG! And now he just pops up from GOD KNOWS WHERE. And he still has the gall to say that all his is my fault?! ARGH!” Sasha explained.
“Well… he does. And if you keep this up. It will be your fault Sasha.” Milla scolded. “Now we need to go. Let’s talk to Gristol on who’ll we meet next.” She explained.
“About time.” Sasha responded as he left. Milla looked behind him and saw the tracks left by his father. And saw where LARS was. In his trailer, softly sobbing in it.
“Milla? Are we going?” Sasha called to her.
“Coming!” Milla responded as she left, if there was another rap battle between the two. She’d better get involved.

You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
#the redwall glorifying site can sure be squeamish about books with no more problematic premises#if you’re asking what’s wrong with redwall it’s the good/evil species essentialism and the one book that doubles down on it#but like you still read it if you want to write animals having cozy adventures so you’re not ignorant of half your own genre

Y’all want Taylor Swift to be gay so bad but you won’t even write femslash about her
#I was curious so I looked it up 1038 fics on ao3 tagged Taylor Swift and f/f#like I’m not necessarily encouraging people to go out and write rpf#but it’s wild that arguably the biggest musical artist right now who has a huge community speculating about her sexuality has so little fic#like this isn’t a good or bad thing I just think it’s interesting#idk I’m not actually a swiftie like that#like I listen to her music and keep up generally with what she’s doing but I’m not really in the fandom#so there might be something I’m missing

I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.
Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.
#eleanor shellstrop#you know i was thinking about how we hold female characters to such high standards#and severely criticize bitchy female characters while praising asshole male characters#and then i remembered eleanor and realized that she is the perfect example of how to write an asshole woman that the audience likes#the worse she is the more i'm drawn to her (and honestly same for tahani)#we need more cringe-fail women who nobody likes (for good reason)#the good place#female characters#writing women#girl failure#girl loser#she's so mean#i love her#my favorite#fucking asshole#iconic#the good place eleanor#tgp#tgp eleanor#kristen bell

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!
Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.
There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.
I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:
Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.
The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.
The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.
If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.
Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.
#ao3#archive of our own#fanfiction#writing#bot attack#i really don't understand why someone would even do this. why don't ppl use their powers for good?

idk man. i just think itd be really cool if sign language classes were mandatory throughout primary school. yeah because it would make communication with deaf kids and autistic/nonverbal kids much easier. and those kids would be accessible to the others so they could make friends and have healthy relationships. yeah. and kids would eat that shit up man. like their own little secret language? they love that.
#ace writes#autism#nonverbal#deaf#deafawareness#sign language#no yeah i just think it would be good#btw I am a semi nonverbal autistic person that knows a couple of simple signs#but would like to pursue it further as a good method of communication for me#just so ya know :}

I finally took the time to photograph my vintage dip pen nib collection, and I need to share with you all how wonderful and diverse their designs are.
These two are my favorite. Just look at them! One of them is named Gorille and the other Mephisto, but to me they're little pumpkins.
And of course you gotta love the Pinocchio nib. You get to write with the nose of a tiny guy! Just not something you get to do anymore.
#I collect them because they come in fun shapes but they're also incredibly nice to use#all the ones I own write impressively smoothly#even the most flexible and fine pointed nibs#I have a ton of modern nibs as well (like a lot) and smoothness plus flexibility is not a common trait combo#good object#dip pens

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:
In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.
A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.
In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.
#writing#writing advice#my writing#I think 'ooc' is a bogeyman that casts too big a shadow for fanfic writers#stop thinking 'is this ooc?'#and start thinking 'have I given this character a good enough reason to do the thing?'

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.
#warm up#writeblr#actually this is because again i don't go here#i don't read/write fanfic but i have nothing but respect for my troops#but i also have never played minecraft. im sorry. please ask me any question about pokemon tho i love that shit#anyway#out of some banal and thoughtless curiosity i watched the minecraft movie trailer#and again i know nothing about minecraft. i am aware im in an endangered population#but im watching this going: this is so fucking.... BAD#there is NO LOVE in it!#like if someone who has NO history in minecraft watches that and is like - ohhh this is soulless#WHO IS THE AUDIENCE????#ppl who love minecraft are gonna hate it!!!#at some point it's the ''mean girls musical movie'' problem --#some people will always hate the premise of what you're doing and some people will love it#make it for the ppl who love it#and usually that somewhat convinces the haters to like. chill enough to TRY it . bc it IS good#but when you try to make it for the haters..... nobody likes it. it doesn't have passion. energy. footwork#which is a small way of saying a big thing: if you love something. fucking make it and assume someone will love it too.#i love u . be brave . be bold. be in boston and come to my reading#where i wrote a really weird fucked up little book.#love u love u love u etc

worried that thing you put in your art or writing or game or music is too self-indulgent, too self-referential, too niche for anyone but yourself? fear not! you can do whatever you want forever. and you should.
#writing#art#music#games#things i have to remind myself of daily#anyway ive found those things you're worried about sharing are often the most powerful things you CAN share#i hope you write#<- i would like to replace that tag with something that is less conversational#it makes reblogs awkward#anyway good morning. i have so many things to do today but instead i am crafting a memorial to my partner's best friend in my fanfiction.

One of my all time biggest pet peeves with historical(ish) fantasy is when the writer constructs a religion with a clear bias that it's stupid and false and therefore only the Stupid People and/or commoners believe in it and all the smart/elite main characters are like, quasi-atheists or otherwise just routinely flout established religious conventions of orthodoxy and/or orthopraxy because they're Too Smart for it or etc.
It's usually an extension of assumptions that people in the past were just less intelligent than in the contemporary, just being like "I know that the sun is a star millions of miles away that the earth orbits, but this ancient religion describes it as a chariot flying through the sky" and not really bothering to learn the context and just (consciously or subconsciously) settling on 'that's a crazy thing to think and was probably believed in because they were Stupid'.
And that whole attitude pisses me off so much. People were as 'smart' 10,000 years ago as they are today. These beliefs aren't just desperate, random flailing to explain phenomena that could not directly be accounted for either, it's not like people just looked at the sun and went "Uhhh I don't know what the fuck that thing is, actually. I guess it might be a chariot or a boat or something?? Yeah let's go with that." and based entire religious practices on this. Every well-established belief system exists within broader contexts of cultural values/subjective perceptions of reality/knowledge systems/etc, and exist as part of a historical continuum of religious practices that came before. Even when not Materially Correct, they have context and internal logic, they're not always dead literal with zero levels of allegory, and they're never a result of stupidity.
#I think you're failing at good worldbuilding and also just like. Idk failing at being an understanding human being willing to learn about#people different from yourself when you approach writing religion from a 'uhhhh what's some random stupid shit people believed in#2000 years ago' angle#Like make an effort to understand the logic and worldviews and value systems that informed these practices before you synthesize your own

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)
