It’s ten o’clock, and the party is finally over. The leftovers have been packed away and placed in the cold cupboard, the cake is under a preservation spell on the countertop, the guests have gone, and Harry and Remus are in bed. The decorations are still up, but Sirius has half a mind to leave them. They lend a festive cheer to the otherwise-dreary house, and it’s only a month until Christmas.

“Happy birthday, darling.” Kingsley kisses the side of his head, and then takes Sirius into his arms. “Was it everything you imagined it would be?” 

Sirius had known that Kingsley and Remus were up to something these past few weeks, but even that hadn’t prepared him for the sheer extravagance of the party. 

“It was wonderful.” Sirius says. He tilts his had up for a kiss, which Kingsley willingly gives. “I couldn’t have done it better myself.” 

“Go upstairs. I’ll take care of the rest,” Kingsley says, nodding at the dishes that still need to be washed and put away. “I’ve drawn a hot bath for you, and there’s a bottle of champagne chilling in there as well.” 

Sirius’s stomach flutters. He’d accidentally found the ring months ago while putting away some laundry, and since then he’s been wondering when Kingsley will choose to propose. “Will you join me?”  

“As soon as I’m done here.” 

Sirius kisses Kingsley, long and slow. Savors the taste of him, the soft press of his lips, the tip of his tongue as it--

“I KNEW IT!” 

Sirius and Kingsley break apart, each reaching for his wand as they whirl on the intruder. It’s Molly Weasley, wild-eyed, and she points an accusing finger at Sirius. 

“I knew it,” she hisses. “All these years, that sweet young man has been at your side, keeping up your house, raising your child, and you’ve been stepping out on him the whole time! And you, Minister, I voted for you! Arthur does nothing but sing your praises! Remus is one of your most valuable employees, and you’ve been sleeping with his husband! How dare you!” 

“Molly--” Sirius starts, but she barrels right over him.

“You have thirty seconds, Sirius Black,” she says. “You go upstairs, right now, and tell Remus what you’ve been doing, or I’m going to do it for you.” 

“I--”

“Dad?” Harry comes into the kitchen, rubbing an eye. “What’s goin’ on?”

“Nothing, babe,” Sirius says, sending a glare Molly’s way. “I’m sorry, did we wake you up?”

“S’fine, I just wanted some water.” Harry goes over to the tap and pours himself some water, then allows Sirius to drop a kiss on his head before he starts making his way out of the kitchen. Mrs. Weasley stops him.

“No,” she says. “Harry should be here for this, too. It affects him most, after all.”

Harry gives her a puzzled look. “What affects me?” 

“Molly, I have never slept with Remus--”

A silvery wolf bursts through the wall. “WE DID SNOG AT A PARTY ONCE, THOUGH.” 

“Damn werewolf hearing,” Sirius mutters as the Patronus dissolves. “Remus is my best friend and my co-parent. He is Harry’s other father, and that will never change. But never, not once, have we been romantically involved.”

Another Patronus appears in the kitchen. “HE DOES HAVE A VERY NICE COCK, MOLLY, BUT I PROMISE YOU THAT I DON’T WANT TO SUCK IT.” 

“Da, you’re so gross!” Harry complains. “I’m right here!”

A third silvery wolf appears, but it says nothing, simply nuzzles Harry in apology before disappearing. 

Mrs. Weasley sputters, red-faced, apparently at a loss for words. She turns on her heel and stalks out of the kitchen, and Sirius hears the front door slam, which of course wakes up his mother’s portrait. 

“I’ve got it, Dad,” Harry says. Somehow, he’s the best at getting Walburga to shut up. “Night, Kingsley.” 

“Good night, Harry,” Kingsley says as Harry hurries out of the kitchen. “Well. That was…unpleasant. What on Earth did you ever do to give her the impression that you’re married to Remus?”

“Aside from raising a child with him? No idea.” Sirius bites his lip, hard, and makes the mistake of making eye contact with Kingsley. They both burst out laughing. “Oh, sod the dishes. Let’s have that bath.”

Hi dr grey don’t worry if you don’t want to answer this but I thought you seemed smart and emotionally intelligent enough to give some advice to me.

My best friend of 6 years is currently, to be frank, being shitty to me and I don’t know how to approach her or what to do. I feel so indebted to her as she has helped me through some very challenging times and I know that at some points during those I was not the brightest and happiest person to surround yourself with. But her actions keep piling and piling and making me feel so bad about myself and I just don’t know what to do. Our friendship circles in a Venn diagram would literally just be one circle so I can’t really distance myself from her/ cut her out but I am just being devastated by the things she is saying and doing to me. I am so sad. Please could you give some advice if you have any

im glad you think me smart and emotionally intelligent. i do find it very... kind that more of yall are coming to me for life advice, so i will do my best.

from all my [redacted] years, i have learned a couple things about friendships, and one of the biggest lessons is realizing sometimes you outgrow people.

it seems, anon, that you put in some work to grow and change and morph into a better version of yourself, and your friend was unable to change and grow alongside you. they seem stuck in those old patterns (where perhaps you were unkind/not your best self for WHATEVER reasons and not enjoyable to be around) and rather than growing past that with you, she is still THERE and is wanting to bring you back there with her. Maybe it made her feel good to help you and it made her feel valued as a friend when you were in a dark place. Who knows.

My advice: 1) i think an apology can go a long way, and addressing what has passed. hey bestie, i just wanted to say that i know i haven't been the most fun to be around these past few years and Im sorry if my actions hurt you. and i appreciate you so much for helping me through them.

2) communication can go a long way too, and addressing what is occurring actively. tell her she is making you feel bad. maybe she doesn't realize it herself, maybe she's missing something from you. maybe maybe maybe, but you never know until you name the thing.

3) boundaries. address what has happened and see if change occurs. or pre-emptively state "i cannot surround myself with someone who makes me feel bad. i cannot be friends with you if you keep doing XYZ."

outgrowing a friendship doesn't negate anything that previously transpired. some people are there for reasons and seasons only (even if it is a six year long season).

Just finished "from fore to fire" by greyeyedmonster18

It takes place after the war. Sirius was in Slytherin and became a death eater. Before the war ended he handed informations to Dumbledore and fled to Greece with Regulus. After Walburgas death they return to London and Sirius takes night classes to get his NEWTs. He becomes enamoured with his teacher Remus and they start a relationship

What i love about this fic is that they communicate! Maybe not always in the best way but they try. What i loved more was that Remus calls Sirius out on his shit (aka lies) and they work through them

In the beginning I was unsure about the fic because it's rated M and I wanted to read something rated E - with this exact plot. So I read it and what can I say? Yes,I did miss the more explicit parts sometimes because I think they would habe added another layer and illustrated wolfstars relationship more. At the same time though, I did not miss These scenes

Best characters were Effie (one appearance in the epilogue), Harry (you will like this child), and Marlene (I might be a bit biased here)

That millennial vibe

Okay so this may be unpopular but I really love fanfics that were initially written/published in the 2010s. There’s something specific about the millennial vibe that I’m not sure that can be captured by genz writing. Maybe it’s just because I’m a millennial myself and those fics are the ones that I first go into but I wanna start my reviews off by looking back at some of the pieces that embody this feeling for me.

First up has to be Time is a Fine Invention by thisbluepeony (now just bluepeony). I first read it on fanfic.net but you can find it on ao3 now. I think this was one of the first slash fics I read that felt real. When I was first getting into fanfics it felt like everything was either straight or just drarry. I never really liked draco/harry as a pairing. My true and first love will always be wolfstar.

I was in college when I read it the first time and there is just something so sweet and special about the moment captured in this fic. If you haven’t read it, definitely go check it out so you can form your own opinion before I start my reviews. I think the millennial writing vibe is best defined by our relationship to technology. We also have a really different relationship to queerness and coming out that I just love to see put into writing.

I know that picascribit is still writing but their work also falls into this specific 2010s moment that I really miss/adore. Also can we talk about how pica still uses that cute little bird pic as an avatar!? Another perfect example of this is REWrites. More recent stuff that has this feel for me is Petty with a Prior by lunchbucket, and 10 Reasons to Visit Michigan by greyeyedmonster18.
