My man likes rules and ballet has those rules. He was the best at partner work and lifted those girlies into the air with no problem. The pack teases him abt it sometimes but angel loves it. They constantly ask him to teach them variations.

Asher: Classic Jazz/Hip-hop

I think he was enrolled in jazz classes as a kid and really enjoyed it. Later on, he thought hip-hop was really cool so he watched a bunch of videos on it. yes, self-taught hip-hopper ash. he's an absolute beast at clubs and definitely dances to the songs playing at grocery stores.

Milo: BALLROOM PLEASE HE'S LITERALLY PERFECT FOR THIS ARE YOU KIDDING? He loved every aspect of it: the style, the costumes, the competition, EVERYTHING. He was really good at it too, he won like 90% of the competitions we was in. He definitely had a massive rivalry with another person and was petty abt it.

Vincent: Contemporary Ballet

not necessarily ballet but it has a certain artistic element that he enjoys. He took a few classes as a kid and then enrolled in some classes at his college. I just think that he would be really good at it and it's not super traditional.

Sam: Country Western

my guy is from the south what did you expect? anyways he went to a lot of shindigs as a kid and then went to country clubs in college. He's goated at partnering too. he spins his partners around and lifts them into the air with ease. Even tho darlin is made of steel he can still pull crazy stunts.

William: Ballet

He's literally from France and was the reason why Tchaikovsky wrote the Nutcracker. He KNOWS his stuff.

Gavin: Jazz 

Okay a bit different, but I think that he enjoys the more mature jazz/theatre. Like cabaret, chicago, and moulin rouge. he LIVES for that shit. fosse is his idol bro. he occasionally surprises freelancer with a little number lol

my man went far with this like he was GOOD. He was definitely enrolled in a professional company before he went to damn. He was super particular about every move and argued with people during variations. He even got annoyed at the girls he was paired with because they weren't certain moves correctly. The other dancers didn't like him very much, but those russian ballet teachers did, and that's why he got so many good roles in the shows he was in.

Lasko: Musical theatre

okay, hear me out here. he's a show tunes guy. he loves newsies, grease, and hamilton and was for sure a theatre kid before his powers manifested. Like can you imagine how cute that is? he's a little bit embarrassed about it but when freelancer asks him about it he pulls out the old CDs. pls so cute

Huxley: Rhythmic tap

no not theatre tap like he goes hard with the rhythms. you really wouldn't expect it but you can sometimes catch him tapping when he's sitting or waiting in line. he's an absolute beast at it.

Caelum: Lyrical

he loves all of Maddie Ziegler's solos. the likes how much emotion is put into every move and gets very invested in the stories he tells through the movement. he also really likes all the pretty costumes.

- the squad consists of jonathan, eddie, robin, steve (and will but i’ll talk abt him with the rest of the party’s hcs)

the rest of them are also neurodivergent, mainly adhd or anxiety and obviously they all have ptsd

- eddie robin and steve also have adhd (and steve has dyslexia)

- steve and jonathan tend to get overstimulated by the same things, same with eddie and robin

I'm back with more character talk for Pokemon Violet! This time I have now offically finished all the main storylines so I have all the context now. Rika

Alright~! I'll be doing Rika first since she was specifically requested. She was another character whom I wont lie, I mistook her gender at first until I read the pronouns, I legit thought she was either a dude or perhaps nonbinary? But tbh I love Rika and her personality. She gives me like; "Cool older sister" vibes, particularly due to her interactions with a certain steel-type user. (I would ALSO like to know where she got those earrings cause I'd love a pair of those, this is coming from someone who doesn't wear jewelry, like, ever.) I would honestly love to have her as an older sister, or a girlfriend, cause she also gave me a BI panic. Just not as extreme as the one Grusha gave me. Turo

I literally just finished the main storyline not even five minutes ago as I'm writing this, so I HAVE to do this man cause I have THOUGHTS on his ass! (BIG SPOILERS FOR THE MAIN STORYLINE ENDING AHEAD. DO NOT READ PAST HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS) I'm going to talk about the AI Professor Tur and the real Professor Turo as separate entities. Starting with the real Professor Turo, this man from what we are told about him... he's well...interesting. I personally have mixed feelings towards him, on one hand, I get the impression he was a little too invested in his little time machine project and didn't spend enough time with this son Arven, but on another hand he was definitely a clever man and the AI's last message to Arven about his dad is enough to soften my impression, but not enough to exonerate him, at least in my eyes. the AI Turo is quite interesting, to me it seems that he's choosing to, with the help of the other four, shut down the time machine of it's own volition, judging by the security protocols that you as the main character have to fight through, I don't think the real Turo would have shut the machine down. It wanted to explore the world but could not due to needing to stay near the time machine to stay functioning. I find the thought of the AI Turo having it's own adventure in the future quite interesting to think about too. Penny

Penny, my GIRL! I absolutely love Penny to BITS! I relate to penny quite a bit as a character, I myself used to be a victim of bullying and know what it's like. Her conversations with Arven in specific as you travel through area Zero are extremely amusing, as well as her reactions in general to Nemona's energy. (Her entire team of eeveelutions definitely didn't make me like her more at ALL~) Honestly I want that backpack of hers SO bad. It's so cute and I love eevee! She somewhat reminds me of Pidge Gunderson from Voltron Legendary Defender. However I think Penny is a litttle bit more socially awkward than Pidge is.

Oh my dear god where do I start with this man??? He is lil bit extra and I love him! His entrance actually scared the shite out of me ngl, did not expect him to pop up on the fucking windmill. Also I'm saying it now, I saw his lovely vine whip that's secured around his waist and the first word out of my mouth was, "Kinky!" no lie. I definitely see him as a bit of a theatre kid mixed in with his artist kid. I also reallllly wanna poke the pointy bits in his hair, even if it might cut me. (I wont lie though he was super easy for me as a gym leader cause by the time I got to his gym I was extremely over leveled.) Alright! Another four down! I can do more if anyone wants em~! This will be long and very ramble-y so bear with me

OK SO FIRST OFF THE ANIMATRONICS

- I loved how they acted like kids??? Like you tend to forget the ghosts are actual children when looking at the games since they’re constantly all “murder monster-y” so I love that they got to act so childlike

- Kids’ drawings being a massive plot point was so cute, I actually didn’t mind how sudden Afton’s defeat was since like,,, they were only on his side in the first place bc the drawing showed that he was their friend, so it suddenly switching around made a little more sense. Probably could’ve been executed better but for what it was I think it was fine

- And of course THE DESIGNS!!!! Holy shit I loved how they looked!!! The prop team did an AMAZING job with both the animatronics and the background props!!!

- The interactions with Abby were adorable, I loved the fort scene because of how goofy it was to watch giant machines dressed like animals put that together

- Also I know we were all skeptical when the red glowing eyes were shown, but honestly the scenes where they DID glow would probably have looked good even if they didn’t change it, though I will say that the final look is really nice by itself

NEXT IS THE MAIN CAST

- Matthew Lillard did an INCREDIBLE JOB as William Afton, when my dad and I came out of the theatre he said that he had a feeling that Lillard would be the antagonist (mind you my dad knew nothing about the games or the movie), which really shows how well he does at playing horror villains and playing up that gut instinct

- I loved how creepy he was in the final fight scene, just creeping out of the shadows with those two glowing pinpricks was SO cool

- Also Afton being retconned to not be British anymore is so funny to me askdjhsjjdhdj

- Abby didn’t annoy me at all, I actually thought she was super cute!! Which is surprising bc I usually find kids annoying but I’d die for Abby

- When I say that I got WHIPLASH from the animatronics being nice to her and later Mike after she introduced them, I MEAN IT (in a good way)

- Mike taking Abby seriously and believing her when she said her “imaginary friends” are actually ghosts was a nice change of pace

- The group that broke in honestly didn’t need that much characterization since the main thing the plot needed was Max, so that was fine

- I am confused about why people aren’t more concerned about the murders that took place throughout the movie??? Like a missing poster in the background would’ve been fine, or maybe Mike reacting to Max being missing?? They don’t give much context on their relationship, I have no idea if they’re friends or if she’s just someone he hired and doesn’t have much emotional investment in, so maybe that wouldn’t work

- VANESSA MY BELOVED

- Vanessa was great, I love her character so much, but idk if I love her by herself or it it’s cuz she didn’t get much characterization in the game,,,, doesn’t really matter ig

ABOUT THE STORY

- Story was really fun, I love the unexpectedness of some of the scenes (dance scene, fort building, Freddy blade mask, etc) I thought it was so funky

- Afton using a separate identity to lure people to Freddy’s was cool, though I have no idea why he’d do that to other people. I can understand Mike, he likely knew about his brother through the last name, but why other people???

- I am a bit sad about Henry n Charlie Emily being left out, considering how big of a part they both play in the game lore, but idk if it’s explicitly said whether they exist within the movie universe or not, so we’ll see in the next movie ig

- THE SPRINGLOCK SCENE!!!!!!!! I loved it <3 idk how they didn’t go off after Afton was bouncing around in it earlier but when they did go off it was SO COOL!!!

- “I always come back” YES HE DOES!!!! LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO

- End scene of him bleeding out in the storage room hinting towards the full Springtrap character??? Loved it

Random plot holes or inconsistencies I found:

- Foxy had a scene where they forgot to switch the red eyes to the new glowing ones

- Despite the animatronics killing the group that broke in, spilling plenty of blood, they’re perfectly clean afterwards

- My dad found it weird that they didn’t show any part of the kids’ bodies in the suits, since it’s apparently known that they were stuffed inside (or maybe only Vanessa knew??). He thought an arm or a leg poking out would’ve worked. I said I think it’s either cuz the bodies were removed, are kinda mangled and pretzel-twisted to only be in the torso, or it’s just bc they didn’t think to do that lmao

- He was also confused on how Afton was able to jump around and move so easily in the springlock suit when the suit in the back snapped off the broom handle after a single jab. I said I think it’s bc it’s meant to be used to move around in and not harshly screwed with, or maybe it’s another plot reason

All in all, 8.5/10 movie. There were a few times when I was confused on why something happened or why someone behaved a certain way, but none of it was outright bad or boring. There also could’ve been more to the gore, definitely could’ve pushed the boundaries of the PG-13 rating, but it was good for what it was. It was fun, cute, and knew when to be serious :P

1. Thinking about this, at first we thought it was a pretty even tie between Raph and Lee, with Raph having a wide variety of magical skills and a general talent when it comes to using them to their full potential, but in terms of raw power, determination, and efficiency, it all goes to Lee. A last Ronin Lee would be very bitter and revenge focused, you wouldn't want to cross her, her powers were already inherently deadly even when she didn't want to kill (most people) with them.

2. This became a whole thing so we're gonna put all that in its own post so no one has to deal with that wall of text!

3. Splinter tries his best, can't say he's perfect because no parent is, especially in circumstances like the one the Hamatos are in, but for the most part he tried to raise them like regular kids. The earliest form of their training came when Lee was around 6, and it was only agility training in the form of sports and fun games. When Lee was 10 lessons became self defense, and then when she was 13 that evolved into the basics of martial arts, her siblings being introduced to the lessons at the same ages she had been introduced to them. It could be rough sometimes, they had to move homes every few years, and Splinter had been very obviously keeping things from them, but he was trying to both protect them from knowledge that would have put them in danger and also slowly introduce them to the seriousness of their situation at an age appropriate time. If there was a guidebook for raising kids while in hiding, Splinter hadn't found one, so he had to go with his gut a lot unfortunately.

4. Well, Shredder (and above him, the Krang) is the main villain for this au. He's been a pain in the ass for a long, long time, and it might be kinda obvious but he's the reason Splinter is in hiding, the reason why a lot of things went wrong and are as bad as they are. He hasn't even done much himself really, at least, he hadn't done much before Splinter's disappearance, and even after that the turtles didn't even know he existed for years, but the threat itself isn't what Shredder can do, its the power the Krang have, so without them the Shredder is kinda a bit of a joke, not in the full comic relief way, more in the "the worst he can do is stab somebody" way, he's a good fighter for sure, but he's beatable.

Other than the Shredder Krang alliance, the villains are kinda average, they'd all be considered an episodic villain, one plan in one episode and then they disappear for a little while before coming back with a new plan that'll be dealt with in that same episode. Bishop specifically we thought about for a long time, but in the end we decided to not have him appear in this iteration (at least, not in what we consider "part one" of the iteration, we'll go over his potential again to see if he would suit "part two" more), he just didn't suit the tone.

For original villains, we do have one group, we've mentioned them before, the polyamorous theatre group, who's theatre had been a casualty to one of Angie's bombs resulting in them swearing to ruin the turtles lives (and trying to rob banks and stuff on the side, to get enough money to rebuild), they have every skill you can think of and teach them to each other, and they can appear anywhere thanks to those skills, anything from being an ominous group of knive wielding chefs to a construction crew working late. They go all in on costumes and always stay in character, so they don't even really have distinguishable identities, which makes it even harder to tell when they're gonna show up.

5. Largely when we think of litpm, we draw from 2012, with a little bit of Rise thrown in for certain characters and dynamics

The Geraskier (and Lambden) H2O: Just Add Water AU of my dreams (bc Mermay is almost over and I haven’t done a thing for it and putting Geraskier into my favourite teenage shows is too much fun; this got long and messy):

-Geralt, Eskel, and Lambert grew up on the coast of Australia on an estate that is very big and private with its own sectioned-off part of the beach; among all their surfer kid school friends they are definitely the outcasts; they keep to themselves a lot and everyone thinks it’s because of their overprotective father who keeps them from throwing the best parties and also doesn't want them to go out into the ocean or have swimming lessons

-Vesemir is overprotective, but not for the reason everyone thinks; whenever he and/or his boys come into contact with water, they turn into mer-boys, complete with shimmering golden tails; he hoped this genetic oddity would pass them by, but it didn’t and so he taught them to be very careful for fear of them getting hurt

-they all cope with this in different manners: Geralt and Eskel mostly use their ability to do good; they protect little turtles from falling prey to predators, they collect trash from the bottom of the ocean; they also wrestle in the water a lot; Lambert tries to forget this is a thing and stays as far away form any body of water as he can; he spends most of his time secluded in his room, listening to edgy grunge music; sometimes his brothers can lure him out for a round of waterball in their private pool

-Jaskier is one of the popular kids one grade below Geralt (together with Lambert). He always gets the lead role in theatre, he has dozens of friends and a cool band and his outfits are outrageously fashionable; he vlogs a lot, he vlogs so much that anyone who has half a mind to get invested in his life will know everything from his morning routine to the night cream he uses; his favourite cafeteria lunch, the name of his teddy bear and his least favourite cousin

-Jaskier is also determined to befriend Geralt and his bros; he grew up in the same street as them and ever since he discovered Instagram, he’s been dying to take some shots in that house; he’s been over once, when Vesemir made the mistake of inviting a few kids Lambert’s age to his birthday party which ended up in a cake-throwing disaster; little Jaskier thought it was a great idea to tow the garden hose in and clean everything which ruined Vesemir’s favourite rug and had Geralt turn into a mer-boy on the spot; needless to say, Jaskier attributes this memory to a fever dream

-So, Jaskier starts following Geralt and Eskel around (he knows he’ll have no luck with Lambert) and they brush him off every opportunity they get

-What Jaskier doesn’t realize is that Geralt is hardcore in love with him, like so much so that his poor teenage mind cannot stop producing hormones on overload; he spends a lot of time out in the depths to distract himself from this

-What Jaskier also doesn’t realize is that he is falling for Geralt; it’s only for the sake of the 'gram, he tells himself, and because his followers seem to love the chunky mysterious senior with his strangely white hair

-Jaskier’s followers figure it out, the whole school figures it out, Lambert and Eskel figure it out (Geralt lets the guy sit at their lunch table, of course they’re in love) and eventually, even Geralt figures it out. Only Jaskier doesn’t and Geralt has a big-ass secret to keep anyway

-and so, to get rid of his pent-up frustration, he dives deeper and deeper; Eskel starts to worry, Vesemir says it’s just a phase, Lambert plainly doesn’t care

-Speaking of: Aiden is the snarky rich kid / bully that spends way too much time obsessing over uncovering their secret (bc he thinks he’s smart and always thought something about Vesemir was weird and he doesn’t like how they make such a fuss over their privacy). when he invities the three to one of his pool parties, he tries everything to make them reveal what they have going on, but Geralt doesn’t even show and Eskel keeps disappearing to play with Aiden’s dog and so Aiden is stuck with Lambert whom he definitely has a crush on, but won’t ever admit it. they’re enemies, okay? there’s a lot of tension and they end up drunkenly making out behind garden shed, something they both regret in the morning; Lambert doesn’t leave his room for a week straight and feigns a flu so he doesn’t have to meet Aiden at school; Aiden and Jaskier are friends ofc

-one day at school Geralt and Jaskier hang out on the lunch break alone because Eskel’s on a zoo trip with his class and Lambert is avoiding Aiden so he spends all his time holed up beneath the seats of the football field writing angry poems; Jaskier’s forgotten to charge his camera battery so it’s just them, stealing fries off each other’s plates, actually talking for once and Geralt’s sweating because Jaskier sits so close their knees bump and he looks ridiculously cute in his pastel dungarees and there’s this spot of ketchup on his nose that Geralt’s just itching to reach out and wipe away

-Jaskier isn’t all that hungry and he watches Geralt devour a third slice of pizza when he remembers his stupid childhood fever dream; he tells Geralt all about it, the cake fight, the ensuing mess and how he distinctly remembers Geralt growing a fish-tail and flopping around on the living room floor while Vesemir was screaming at them all to get out. “Funny, isn’t it? What your brain can make up?”; Geralt turns chalk-white and splutters a fake laugh

-he isn’t at school the next day and neither are Eskel or Lambert

-nor the next

-they are all a bit afraid, cautious and they just need to spend a few days, just the four of them, throwing themselves into the waves and being free of the shackles of their secrets; they chase each other around, they play some water ball and Vesemir makes them hot cocoa and rubs them dry the way he used to when they were younger and still unable to handle their transformation well

-as he does this, Vesemir thinks about moving somewhere more secure where there are less people, but he can’t take the boys’ life away; Geralt is clearly happy with Jaskier, Lambert’s coming around to opening up to someone, even if that someone is a giant asshole, and Eskel’s too easily unsettled to move elsewhere

-by the third day the boys don’t appear at school - and answer none of his texts - Jaskier gets unsettled; his followers urge him to just go and visit Geralt (they also finally enlighten Jaskier about his own feelings) and Jaskier does. thankfully, his camera is still uncharged and he forgot his phone at home or he would have filmed what he saw as he climbed their garden fence very ungracefully (no one opened the door)

-Geralt went too far out, too deep and got caught in the undertow of some massive waves, then was pulled under and cut himself on some rocks; Jaskier just about catches Eskel and Lambert dragging their brother ashore, his tail flopping helplessly; there’s blood washing away in the waves; Geralt’s eyes are closed and Jaskier understands with rare clarity that somehow this is his fault

-he hurtles towards Geralt, kicking up mud, so afraid that Geralt is going to die and as he does so he calls for Geralt, ignores Lambert’s curses and Eskel’s glower. They gently lower Geralt to the sand where the other two are out of reach of the hungry waves and Lambert runs for Vesemir, Eskel crouches down by Geralt’s tail, inspecting his wounds; meanwhile Jaskier is completely unfazed by the mer-boy thing, he simply drags Geralt’s head onto his lap and strokes his hair, apologizing over and over

-once Geralt is transformed back into human form, his wounds are patched up and Vesemir has given him a thorough lecture, he and Jaskier cuddle on the back porch couch and Jaskier keeps altering between laughing and crying; it’s ridiculous, Geralt is a mer-boy, but also he looked so fragile being hauled out of the water and Jaskier just loves him so fucking much

-and Geralt loves him back. and that’s how a spot of angst orchestrates their happily ever after

-meanwhile Aiden finds out when he has Lambert over for some making out one day and thinks it’s a funny idea to deposit his not-boyfriend in the pool mid-kiss; Lambert just floats in the pool, arms crossed, tail beating, waiting for Aiden to call the cops on him, but Aiden is super turned on and jumps in the pool with him and there’s more making out

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Rewatch pt.3

Ok, full disclosure: I should not be doing this right now. But I've been thinking about it since yesterday and, well, I reckon I can go over 1x4 and 5, and then move on to my actual work. So here we are. I'm really, really excited for these two, so without further ado, I'll dive right into:

1x4: It's hard to believe that I couldn't see... the majority of what happens in this episode when I first watched it

Why is Nini such a pro at making a scene with whoever her current boyfriend is in the middle of a public place? I mean, I get it that she's upset about EJ going through her phone — who wouldn't be — but maybe - and this is just a friendly suggestion — she could try and discuss that in private, not start a shouting match within view of all their classmates. Just saying.

'Ricky would never steal my phone' — well, perhaps not, but he's not quite above deleting stuff from it, either... I wonder if whoever is writing this show knows that there are many other ways to make a relationship unhealthy... it's not funny anymore. Just repetitive.

Ahhh Natalie and her emotional support hamster! At least there's one good thing about this scene.

Sure, Ricky, blame Big Red for the fact that you misplace your stuff... a very nice best friend he's got, indeed.

Gosh, everything is so awkward and there is just so much tension all over the place — Ricky's parents, then EJ and Nini, and then Carlos just being oblivious to the fact that they just broke up... you know, that last part just made me laugh. And then Ricky's reaction to his parents legally separating just broke my heart. That boy's been through too much.

Big Red being completely clueless about theatre terms is super funny and endearing, but let me just put myself in his shoes for a sec. He's followed his best friend into a badly thought-out scheme to get back together with his ex, got dragged into joining the crew, and is now expected to know what everything is. I would not put up with that... ok, who are we kidding, I'm a massive pushover and would put up with anything, but my point is... he shouldn't have to. At least people are doing the bare minimum to help him learn and nobody's laughed at him for not knowing. That's the good thing about this crew.

Ok, so I have posted about my thoughts of their take on What I've Been Looking For before, back when the episode was brand new, so I won't go into detail about that. In short, I think they've got the arrangement all wrong considering that it is a plot point in the original movie, but... the execution is funny. The scene is about Nini and EJ's post-breakup tension and it shows. I just kind of wish now Miss Jenn had pulled Nini out and put Gina in, even just for this rehearsal — and I might or might not be saying this as a Portwell shipper.

Miss Jenn is done with the students' personal drama and honestly, I'm right behind her. These kids are being completely unprofessional — and well, I realise that we can't expect them to be professional at this stage, but... they could at least try to concentrate on rehearsal and not their personal lives for a second.

Ricky hugging a cushion is my spirit animal. That's it, that's the comment.

Ahhh the tension between EJ and Gina though... 'around here seniors don't follow sophomores' — well, we'll see how it goes, Mr. Senior.

What gives Nini the right to shout at strangers about their relationship? I am honestly so frustrated with her these days. Wonder why I never was during season 1. The reasons are all there.

'He loves you' — yeah, like a little sister, he does. Also, Ash is so precious, always trying to see the good in other people. EJ 1.0 is so lucky he had her as an example.

Ok, I'm not going to go into what an amazing best friend Big Red is because we all know that (plus I'm saving it for a certain scene in 1x5), but this must be so hard for him. I mean, he's trying his absolute best to help Ricky feel better and distract him from his problems, and Ricky is turning everything down. I mean, I guess I understand where he's coming from too, but I'm unable to look at things through the lead-centric lens alone anymore. I'm more aware of non-lead characters now (some more so than others) and this is putting a whole new spin on my perception of everything that happens.

I've got no idea how Big Red can sleep with all this noise, though. I could never. But to each their own.

See, this is why I keep forgetting why I ever shipped Rini and then remembering again... their chemistry is just so on-again-off-again, and here it's definitely present, but I just need a couple with consistent chemistry, you know. Hey, isn't that kind of what All I Want is about? Kind of. I don't know. I've been unable to listen to that song ever since it got big irl. I have this... problem with media that becomes popular and mainstream... I mean, I never hold a grudge against things just for being popular, but I just... relate to underrated stuff much easier. Not because it's underrated, but it just so happens that nearly everything I like and relate to is underrated in some capacity. Even HSMTMTS itself — it's practically unheard of here in Bulgaria, so I would not have found it if I hadn't been looking for it specifically. Ok, this comment got derailed several times. I guess I'll just stop here and move right on to 1x5 at this point.

1x5: A bedazzled tablecloth, a perfectly balanced unicycle and bad reception at the barn... not the perfect ingredients, but they can still... Work This Out

'Miss Jenn says that's a life in the arts... well, that and almost constant unemployment' — alright, I know this line is not supposed to be funny, and that it's a painful reality for a lot of people, but... maybe it's the delivery. I just laugh every time.

See, this is what I mean when I say I want to see consistent chemistry — Seblos have it. I mean, I really don't want to jinx things, but... they do.

Big Red seems to be in a more... outspoken mood today, I guess you could say. Too bad Ricky is still shutting everything he says down. Seriously, Big Red and Seb should start a club for people who try their best to be there for their loved ones and still keep being shushed.

I might be super frustrated with nearly everything Nini says and does (can somebody please tell me why that is?), but... flushing her dress down the toilet? Major mood.

Listen, I love Miss Jenn and that she's close to her students, but... emerging from a toilet cubicle and inviting herself to Kourtney and Nini's girls' night was... Will Shuester level of questionable.

Ricky being the mature one about his parents separation is... I mean, it's admirable, but how did he move past the impending depression of last episode and towards being the one who tells his dad to get up and move on? Well, I mean, good for him. But I think the issue is far from buried yet.

'Friend of the year'? Ricky? I don't think so. First of all, if he were, he'd know that Big Red does not have two left feet. Wasn't it you, Ricky, who was stumbling over the steps in HSM a couple of weeks ago? You're one to talk. Plus Big Red's been listening and trying to help while you've just been spouting off about your personal problems for... how long has it been now? I get it, Ricky has issues that he needs to work through, but he's almost legally blind in both eyes when it comes to Big Red.

Ok, but Ricky is the epitome of 'cannot solve his own problems but has a suggestion on how everybody else should solve theirs' in this episode. Maybe take a step back and listen to your own advice?

'My parents think I'm bonding with the livestock' — I've got no idea why I find this line so funny, but I do. And I've got so much love for this entire scene. Carlos' reaction to Seb's response to his invitation is just... the most adorable thing ever! My heart might just burst. Especially given what we're about to go through tomorrow in 2x10... I am. Not. Ready.

The entire karaoke scene just reminds me of... pretty much every extended family reunion on my mum's side. Her cousins love karaoke and are also completely tone-deaf. I love it that they're able to have fun with it, but my ears are still recovering from my great aunt's birthday party two years ago.

'When did you become Nini?' — Why does Mr. Mazzara know so much about his students' dating lives? I mean, Miss Jenn does, too, but he doesn't strike me as someone as invested in them as her. Idk, it just struck me as kind of weird.

'I didn't agree to photos' — please, EJ, I'm sure you'll want memories from your first fake-dating gig with Gina... once you're no longer fake-dating, you know. Boy, these two are going to have stories to tell to their grandchildren.

I've said some stuff about Nini, but... 'a bedazzled tablecloth' is the funniest description I've heard for Gina's homecoming dress.

'Maybe it's not actually about you at all.' Yeah, you tell him, Reddy! Ricky needs to get over himself.

The way Big Red sniffs out the drama, though... I was not-so-randomly reminded of that moment in 2x9 where Seb was like Carlos. and Big Red was like, 'Are you guys fighting?'...

Big Red doing a comedic lip-reading of Gina and EJ's dramatic scene is absolutely hilarious. I might or might not have sold my heart and soul to him after seeing that scene for the first time. But I just remembered how he said earlier that maybe he can't read lips and that just makes this 100% funnier — he was basically like a child who can't read yet making up a story based on the pictures in a book, and I mean it in the best way possible. He's a theatre dark horse, this one, and they should all be intimidated — or inspired, whatever they choose — by his hidden talents. Gosh, I love this guy. But can you blame me?

'You think I'm actually going to confide in you?' — Absolutely. You can't bully someone from your position of authority over them and then act like you're their friend. I do know now that Mr. Mazzara has hidden depths, but he had no right to be as rude to Carlos as he was in 1x3. He was right about one thing, though — Carlos doesn't need a dance partner to dance.

Ricky saying he was going to apologise to Gina and counting that as an apology is giving me major TJ/ Buffy flashbacks. I wonder why that is... * sarcasm *

Nini feeling like a fraud makes me actually sympathise with her for a second. But I feel like Nini's flaw of defining herself through boys and Ricky in particular has been addressed one time too many now, since it was first addressed here in this episode. If they make her and Ricky get back together again in season 2, I will riot. [side note: I feel like the Born to Be Brave scene says a lot about both Rini and Seblos as couples. Nini and Carlos both feel, in the moments leading up to the song, like they are incomplete without their partners. Ricky, too, has built his personality entirely around Nini at that time (and is still not completely over that in s2). And then the song comes in to remind them that they don't need a partner to be happy. I'm just thinking of Big Red's 'perfectly balanced unicycle' comment from the promotional materials, and of how he and Ashlyn, even when they're dating in s2, are never portrayed as being incomplete without each other. I guess there's a reason why they're the Beta Couple of the show — their relationship drama is nearly non-existent, and when it does exist, it's just caused by them caring too much about each other. Every other couple on the show should learn from them.]

Everybody supporting Carlos during the Born to Be Brave number just warms my heart so much... I am actually crying real tears. And then the end, when Seb finally shows up, right in time for the slow dance... I have a lot of feelings about this scene.

Seblos' dialogue here still kind of makes me cringe a little... but like, in a good way.

Yikes... Miss Jenn's getting into trouble... I mean, it was bound to happen sooner or later. But she's lucky she's had enough time with her students for them to love her enough to fight for her. Still, this is a topic for another episode, and so I won't expand on it in this post.

Well, that's it. That was 1x4 and 5. Those were pretty much my favourite episodes when season 1 was airing. And I can definitely see why, even if my views on some things have changed due to stuff that happens later. But, as I constantly say, that's what rewatches are for. In other words, 'once more, with feeling this time' as my choir director used to say.

Ooo both good ideas! And good timing I was thinking about him in a modern setting today. My mind even shitposted the other day with drag queen Grimm imagery. (Tho I’m p sure I’ve read that in a humanau fic somewhere here)

I read this fic by @saturno-sol where Grimm where he’s a theatre director and so I’m pretty attached to that. They also got this one I’m now super invested in where he and Junior (grimmchild) seemed to have struggled financially and also got Hella Family Issues. And that particularly inspires me.

So for my own modernau stuff Grimm def is either working/running a theatre and has got hella beef with his sister Radi. And the kid’s mom really fucked him over in finances and in general so they don’t talk and aren’t on good terms. She’s also not around for said kid. If Grimm ever did drag/dancing/any sort of thing with more traveling it was either before Junior or when he was still with his mom. Nowadays he’s much more focused on trying to stay in one place for the kid. Also unapologetically a stylish goth and loves old school plays and probably writes his own screenplays; def wants to make it big with them. Would totally write his lover a sonnet.

Ooo speaking of names, I’ve toyed with the idea of Grimm being a nickname/stage name he just commonly goes by. And his real name is smth else (tho starts with a G for my own convenience) and I’m snagging Saturno’s idea of grimmchild being <whatever name> Jr. because I think it’s a nice nod to the rebirthing aspect of Grimm. Also Radi’s name is Regina because ofc she has a mean girl name.

i just finished pathologic 2 and have so many thoughts and even more feelings

spoilers ahead, obviously

walking through the town from child to child on day 10 was Something holy shit. also bc i only had five cures but all of the kids had gotten infected. their goodbye talks..... oof. i also encountered so many infected districts in the beginning of that day that i first thought the plague hadn’t just taken the kids but the entire town. having to triage the kids and pick who i’d cure and who i’d merely give antibiotics was rough :((( i was so relieved when all of them survived the following midnight

so So glad i was able to adopt mishka/murky and spichka/sticky and that this was acknowledged in-game as well. every time artemiy said ‘my kids’... oof (when the kids are quarantining on the polyhedron and he tells khan to tell them he loves them...)

also getting to go up the polyhedron on day 8(?) was really cool... the atmosphere... ‘the world is very beautiful indeed’ ... oh artemiy... that was also when i realized there really was something more to the spiritual haruspex stuff since i could see the lines in the sky

on day 11 i finally realized the disembodied cat sounds that had been confusing me the entire game actually belonged to the soul-and-a-halfs’ familiars. ah

slowly recognizing how the setting is becoming more and more like the prologue was pretty chilling. i’m definitely going to replay the prologue soon, i’m pretty sure it’s gonna hit different now

the better i got at bartering, the lower the number of regular townsfolk in the streets got... i think making the consequences of the infection, the desparation and the violence noticeable and inconvenient to the player in this way really helped to show the impact of all that was happening

walking through town on day 12 was emotional as hell. especially interacting with the minor characters i hadn’t actually met that often made me realize how much i’d nevertheless grown to care about them. i hope we get to see more of yulia in daniil’s route (what with them apparently being drinking buddies ahah). i’m a bit sad i barely interacted with some of the npcs, like maria. maybe we’ll get to see more of them from another character’s perspective?

looking forward to pathologic 3 where artemiy raises his kids and lara drops by a lot to help out and artemiy, stakh and maybe spichka study medicine together (speaking of lara and stakh and some of artemiy’s dialogue options... boy i hope they’re also gonna invest a good amount of time in mental health stuff). i didn’t get to ask grief about his plans bc he died :/

the death scenes where super interesting (even though i’m angry i didn’t get to hug lara TWICE). twice, mark didn’t even bother to show up / send someone else, that stung. also, oof, when dead people started appearing in the theatre... it hit me the hardest when peter died first and andrey appeared a few nights later, not standing/sitting in one of the spectator’s spots like the others, but kneeling in front of his brother ://

i hope it wasn’t the stamatins though who designed isidor’s house bc wow. i’d like to have a word with whoever greenlit the floorplan for that building

does everyone get the same number of kids (”devisers”) hanging around one of the impossible houses or the polyhedron on day 12? i think i got one kid per time i had died but that might have just been a coincidence. spotting the building---which did not have a quest marker---and going there and then talking to the theatre rat about maps and quest markers was pretty cool too

i’m a sucker for visual art that’s presented as artwork within a video game. loved the theatre posters and the other posters around town and that we got to look at a bunch of paintings in the loft. too bad i always felt like i was in a hurry and didn’t really have time to just enjoy looking around

still i’m kinda glad i didn’t change the difficulty level. this game was tough and i died a lot and had to replay several half-days, but this might have made the more quiet scenes and the downtime towards the end of the game more rewarding? but i don’t think i would have said ‘man i wish this game had been harder’ if i’d played it on another difficulty setting

in the beginning, i was kinda annoyed by not being able to save the game a lot and by having to walk everywhere, but i came around to finding that really appropriate game design. no easy decision-making and thinking you can quickly reload the game if something doesn’t go to plan, having to make compromises when it comes to quests that take place in different parts of town. i also started enjoying planning my next steps for getting food/rest/immunity boosters while walking

i chose to destroy the polyhedron (rebuilding the town! inventing new things and rediscovering old traditions maybe! everybody who wants to be part of the town can join (more or less :/ )) but at what cost... deciding what to do on day 11 was genuinely difficult. i’m gonna load a save and see what the other option is like (and what happens if you want to get the ‘late’ achievement). i really hope we’re gonna get the other two main characters’ perspectives as well

there are so many things i need to think about some more: the kin (so much to unpack here!), gender roles (and some female character design choices, sigh), isidor (!!!), the town, the different factions and families, the polyhedron, the abattoir, nara, the reflections, the children, the meta narrative, etc. but before i do any of that i’m gonna play the marble nest :)
