i saw you use cohost. would you recommend is as a good/active twitter alternative? im getting tired of the hell hole that this bird website is
i really love cohost and the community there but it is absolutely NOT a twitter alternative. if anything it's a tumblr alternative.
here's my small speech about cohost and why i like it
it's a mix between tumblr and livejournal which is fun
the community is very fun and active! when i made my intro post i had a dozen people leaving a comment welcoming me to cohost which is a very nice feeling
it is very much NOT about likes and follower counts. in fact, there is no way for anyone to know how many likes a post has, or how many followers someone has. YOU dont even know how many followers you have
the only visible number is the number of comments on a post, which is where the community comes from: if you want people to know a post is great, you gotta leave a comment saying so!!!
you can have as many links as you want on your profile, AND you can have links be only visible to logged in users, only to people following you, or only visible to pages you follow... so it's a great way to have your discord only be visible to certain people for example
if you DO want a more twitter-like experience, there is a tag that's The Global Cohost Feed, so you have a bunch of posts from a lot of people
when you first join you will have a few days where you can't post anything, but you can still look at posts and share them. a lot of it must be so cohost can prepare code to bring you in or whatever, BUT it also means you get those couple of days to get to know the culture of the website a bit more! it's lovely
chronological feed my beloved
no algorithm my beloved
cohost does have some issues (adding images is a PAIN), but the staff is working really hard to fix them and is always listening to people's feedback! i like cohost a lot. join me

I have been a huge Harry Potter Fan in my Childhood. Harry Potter was the first book i enjoyed reading. I won a reading contest in my school witha part of the first Harry Potter book. I wanted to become an author in fourth grade because of the books. I wrote my own fantasy story based on the books and i loved pottermore when it first came out. I can emphasize with the Harry Potter Fans who dont want to let go of the series because it means so much to them like it meant so much to me as a child. Often in online debates people get very defensive. Short snappy comments are better for the algorithms and its easier to hate people who still like Harry Potter despite knowing what J K Rowling political stance is on many issues. But I believe you cant convince anyone by just attacking them so here are some general thoughts from me on losing something you used to really really like. Im german and in Germany we have some very old children stories called Struwwelpeter. They seem very cruel to modern readers. A boy for example gets his thumbs cut off because he keeps sucking them. As a child these stories were very disturbing to me. Later i learnt that this story for example was written in a time where children often would die because they would get diseases from sucking there thumbs. Medicine was not evolved enough to save these children and the concept to keep children save by scaring them seemed like a good idea. The fairytales, a lot of people only know the disney version of, many of them also have a more cruel ending for similar reasons. Why am I bringing this up? Context matters to a story. Harry Potter wasnt a perfect story that got ruined by Rowlings tweets in the last few years there are many bigoted ideas in Harry Potter from the beginning. Also just because you liked something as a child it doesnt mean it was very good media. Lets talk about behaviour therapy shall we. The whole idea of behaviour therapy is that you can become a happier person if you change your behaviour (very simplified). The process of that however means a lot of times, that first you are going to be struggling or unhappier then before. Change is never comfortable. Humans love to stay in there behaviour patterns they know and new things are scary. But in the end behaviour therapy does work! If you get over your discomfort you will develop healthier coping mechanisms for example and you will get better. Now back to Harry Potter. Yes it is uncomfortable and sad to admit something you love isnt as good as you thought it was. Yes it can also feel embarassing to admit you were wrong. But to change is to grow. It might sound over dramatic talking about a children book series like this, but giving J K Rowling more money does cause real harm for people (especially trans people) in the real world. Also my concern is if you cant let go of a book you really like how far will it go? What about a person you admired that turns out to be bad for you? What about a political party? Its not nice to be wrong but its something we all have to learn to live with and its ok. You will be fine. This post is specifically about harry potter fans that are not transphobic, terfs or agree in any other way with Rowlings political views ofc Here are some youtube videos about things being wrong in the original Harry Potter series:

an Emo Kid's guide to finding good and cheap alternative clothes on depop!!
Tumblr media
hey there! are you an alternative person who wants to find good cheap clothes on depop, but all you see is skirts from shein selling for $30+? well dont worry cus i am here to help!! here is my guide for how i find good and cheap stuff on depop! (using a brand new account for this btw)
first off do NOT search up key words like "emo y2k grunge" this is how you find overpriced shein stuff. these "aesthetic" keyword searches are not good here, as the sellers know they can tag items like this with these type of tags and up-charge A TON.
for example here is me looking up "emo y2k grunge" not only are these selections overpriced, but the selection is lowkey bad. selling literal shein hoodies as afflicition and beat up clothes as "grunge". try to avoid keywords like this.
Tumblr media
instead try looking for more specfic things. like if there is a band you like try looking that up and seeing what cool merch they have of it! not only will the prices be better but you can also easily see what you are interested in, and what you want to look for. for example here is me looking up "my chemical romance", not only are the shirts super cheap but they are also really cool! this works for video games, shows or movies also!
Tumblr media
next, try words like "skull" or "vampire", random things that may just happen to be on some alternative shirts or clothes work great for finding cheap stuff! a lot of halloween costumes and stuff can also be used as alternative clothes. get creative with your outfits!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
next, just buy fast fashion second hand. you can find a lot of this stuff for usually less than $5 and its super sustainable! instead of all that polyester ending up in the trash, it now gets a second life with you! (be warned however, a lot of the metals on shein jewelry might react to your skin badly, also make sure you wash these clothes atleast twice before you wear it)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
few last tips I have, if you see an item you like and you scroll down, depop will show you similar items under the little "You might also like" thing, so if you see an expensive thing you like a lot, just scroll down and check out those items! usually they are a lot cheaper and actually very similar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also remember to actually scroll through searches! i see a lot of people who just like look at the first page of searches and dont scroll further, remember, you have to actually look for stuff.
also like items! even if they are too expensive (usually i like any items that i just generally like and save items that i would consider buying for real, then remove them from my saved if they get sold), depop actually has a great algorithm, by liking items it can know what you want more, most of the stuff i get off is my "suggested for you" page. its great and shows stuff i like, usually for good prices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and lastly, remember you message sellers! you can negioate the price of something with a seller, and if you find an item thats been listed for awhile and no one has bought it usually thats your best bet for sending an offer with a huge discount that will get accepted, but just offering $5 less on something usually is enough for a seller. this does mean however that you need buy the item in less than 24 hours after the offer is accepted. you can also message sellers for bundles and discounts on stuff, espiecally if you buy multiple items from them.
anyway thats all! good luck emos!! byeeee!!!

want to join the fandom cause it seems fun seeing fanarts and you and others interacting but I don't know how...and with the whole ai thing im scared...
my advice: just do it
really! sometimes all you really need is a leap of faith, and that was exactly how I dropped into the cod fandom. When I joined the ghoap discord server I talked to one of the artist I really like and respected from my lurking time (hi @bressynonym) aaaand the rest is history
I didnt know how to draw properly, nor digitally, all I did was scribbling on OneNote (yeah!) and rambled about cod characters, it is daunting and it is scary to interact but after a while? you may just be able to find someone to brainrot together with
start small, like commenting, reblogging, talking, chatting- doesn't have to be towards artist/writers, it could be the art/fic enjoyers!
you need to put yourself out there if you want something
as to if you want to start in the fandom as a creator, here's some more tips (which are all based on my experience, I am no pro at doing this, hell Im still learning myself, and I am by no means speaking these on behalf on others!)
establish a goal: what are you making? fandom based? original creations?
as with starting new, everything may take a while for stuff to happen, you'll feel like you're speaking to the void at times (esp with original arts, but do know that your stuff do get perceive by others as time goes, I would advise to draw fandom stuff as a beginning to get that boost going if you want! or else it's going to be quite hard to get things rolling)
imo this is hardest part of any new creator, you'll have to bear with it and try not to give up (but I understand how incredibly demotivating it could get, there were times when I stopped posting about Raven entirely, but eventually I post it anyway cuz surely someone out there will like them, it just takes a lot of patiences and perseverance)
btw, engagement can also vary from time to time, you may be booming for a bit, then suddenly you dont, it is a cycle that will bound to happen
take rest regularly, and I mean a break from social media because numbers, discourse and everything can get to you, very quickly (I cannot emphasise this enough)
the numbers are not worth it over your mental health (comes with practice to really solidify this thought)
study the algorithm (pain): see what other creators are doing to get where they are, what tags are they using in their post? what features/niche do people like?(this is, if you really want to grab some form of engagement, bcuz reminder in the end you are creating art for yourself first!)
example: I think posts would get more reach if you tag it with the ship name first, followed by the characters' name (doesn't work all the time tho)
that's the thing about algorithm, it is ever-changing, and you'll have to learn to adapt with it when it does!
expanding on that, studying algorithm could be about ships (for example, ghostsoap is most popular in the fandom), or really good rendered art/flashed out fic that leaves your jaw on the floor, or ships that gets lesser attention in general which puts you, who make content about them, easier to be brought into the light (like Faralex)
bUT, it can also be personality!
(again, not saying this is meant for everyone and strictly from my own experience + what I observe) for me, I made up the lack of my art by establishing a personality: a wild panda who yaps about price and their oc and also kinda everywhere in the place (just like this post LOL), OR you're the person who named themselves after Soap's ash particle number OR you're the one who likes bottom Ghost- literally anything goes, you want to make an impression in different ways, some more funny/goofier than others but it works (be mindful and stay respectful tho, dont wanna be the asshole in the fandom now do ya?)
efforts ≠ engagement (not all the time, but most time) and this is a fact. Sometimes, you can't expect a piece you did for 10+ hours to get thousands views and likes, especially in a fandom space. You need to understand algorithm is that wonky. (very disheartening, but again, you make the art for you and the few others who genuinely likes them, and those people can go a long way) be mentally prepared for such events, and try not to beat yourself up too much for it
ultimately tho, do it, do it scared but do it anyways and again, draw the things that bring you joy, I hope these could be helpful in some ways!

some notes on tumblr tagging for tiktok refugees (i know the ban was short lived but we hope you consider staying here instead!!)
tags are different from terms. tags are the things at the bottom of a post with a #hashtag, terms are just... words anywhere in a post. tags are the thing you deliberately put on a post to categorize it.
like on tiktok, tumblr tags are used for optimizing searchability on a post--you can look up a tag on tumblr and see every post someone has made with it.
tags are also organization tools on one's own blog--i tag all my cheerful/positive posts with '#smiles' so i can go through the tag if i have a bad day, or see every post ive tagged with '#cats'.
tag trigger warnings and do not censor them. using "glitter" as a stand-in trigger, you NEED to tag as "#glitter", not '#gl1tt3r'. you dont have to worry about an algorithm blocking your triggering glitterposts, but individual people will blacklist "#glitter", and that won't work if you spell it differently!
when setting up a blacklist you can use asterisks before and/or after a term to broaden it. blocking "#*glitter*" should (if tumblr does its job) cover tags like '#glitter cw' and '#cw glitter', which someone might use so that their post doesnt get categorized in the '#glitter' tag for others to look up.
there's also a field for blacklisting terms rather than tags, which will block every post with "glitter" anywhere in the text, including usernames!
when you use the tumblr search function the 'search' tab will show you every post that contains that term somewhere--the 'tagged' tab shows you posts deliberately tagged with that term!
both types of searches are pretty busted tbh--desktop url searches are a bit more reliable but not perfect. you can search individual blogs with tumblr.com/[blogname]/tagged/glitter to look through a tag. adding /chrono sorts them oldest to newest.
the original post is the only one that shows up in the main tumblr tag. you can tag "#glitter" on your reblog of a post not originally tagged as such, and that post won't show up in the "#glitter" tag.
blacklists will pick up the tags on the original post even if a reblog doesn't have them! this is useful for blocking e.g. stuff with terfy origins that the person reblogging it didn't know about. if you blacklist "#radfems please interact" and OP tagged the post with that, you won't see it even if the person you saw reblog it tagged it with nothing at all.
it's considered rude to tag an original post with something the post speaks of negatively. that's why one might tag an original post as "#glitter cw" rather than just "#glitter"--if the post shit-talks glitter, don't put it in the "#glitter" tag where glitter fans go to see glitter content!
fandoms at least will usually have a "#[fandom] negative", '#[fandom] neg', or "#[fandom] critical" tag for this. put it there instead.
tags are also used for plain ol' yapping. tag chatter is the low intensity version of a comment or reply. it doesn't prompt a response, it's mostly just for you and your followers. only the OP and the person you reblogged from will see your tags in their notifications.
HOWEVER people can find your tags by looking through the notes, and it's not uncommon to drag tags into the main post by quoting or screenshotting them. they might say "how dare you leave this in the tags" or 'these tags passed peer review' if they really liked them and wanted to share what you said. or they may properly respond!
if you go for a screenshot please put the text in the alt or as an ID below for screenreaders!
it's also nice to link to the person whose tags you're showing off or addressing, but if you reblog from them directly you can indicate this by calling them "prev".
tags can be edited on desktop but on mobile you have to delete them and start again.
there's a 280 character limit per tag and a limit of i think 20 tags per post?
the most important rule of tagging is to have fun and be yourself! <3 and also to provide trigger warnings, because seriously.

People following self proclaimed Tae antis. Oh, sorry, just "people who don't like Tae." And then claiming to still be OT7 themselves or want to follow OT7 accounts too... maybe because you really like their jikook posts or because you actually agree with their Tae hate. I dont know, just sit with yourself for a minute and think how you would feel if it was an account that made REALLY GOOD posts about BTS, Jungkook or whoever else, but self proclaimed that they didn't like Jimin, you wouldn't change their mind, and here is why and everyone is allowed their own opinions. Would you still want to follow them regardless of what else they posted about?
I'll defend Jimin CONSTANTLY but I don't often have to on here since so many Jimin biased people are the ones sending me asks. And I also know how the algorithm works on twt and that quietly reporting works better on removing the hate than engaging with it does. But don't drag different members down in an effort to defend Jimin from whatever you think he needs defending from. And the last people Jimin will ever need to be defended from is his other members.
Tumblr media
I'm not calling ANYONE out with this post honestly. I'm just wanting to put something out there for those who are willing to think about it more, for them to hopefully think more about it and what's worth being on a platform or not. Everyone is free to their own opinions and free to follow whoever.

(In response to the ai discourse question mod posted)
Generally speaking, at least as far as I know from the art, writing/writing adjacent, and dev communities I’m in, it has to do with the following (from least important to most important imo) -
5. It’s lazy/low effort/etc. This tends to be a concern in creative and fan spaces for the most part, as many people find it to go against the whole kind of ‘drive’ of fandom; sharing things you’re genuinely passionate and care about and are willing to put in effort for about something you enjoy
4/3. It takes away work and opportunities from actual creators, be it programmers, designers, writers, musicians, etc. and instead steals work from unconsenting creators who’ve had their work skimmed by the AI or training algorithm
4/3. It’s harming the environment/water usage/etc. (Yes, so does most tech, but the extent of power and water Generative AI use is far more than essentially anything else. It also comes at a time where many countries, including my own, are in states of emergency regarding water shortages, heat waves, droughts, or contaminated waterways)
2. It cannot be held liable for crimes. Given the status of AI as non-living, it cannot be held responsible for harm it causes. This has led to everything from everyday people being placed into NSFW stuff and it ruining their lives to theft to near-murder (see the many mushroom incidents, chemical incidents, etc.)
1. AI is not an actual intelligence, meaning that nearly everything in it is stolen in some way or another. Be it artists getting their work skimmed, authors (both fanfic and officially published) getting their words, plots, and the like taken to be used without their consent, or even everyday people using Google Docs and having whatever they write be possibly used to train AI without their knowledge
The way this applies to SDV mods and the like is that -
A) It takes work away from artists, programmers, and writers (many of whom would probably even do it for free)
B) Shows often a seeming lack of commitment or interest in the content being put out, as well as seemingly like they don’t care about their customers (similar to when a celebrity does a ‘cash grab’ project where they sell absolute slop for like thousands of dollars to scam their fans that have supported them and who helped build the celebrity’s career)
C) Sends the message that they support the use of AI, or at the very least don’t see much of a problem with it’s usage which just reinforces the idea that they don’t value their customers or other creatives
Sorry if that’s a lot! AI politics can be fairly difficult to research at times and rather difficult to sort through so I wanted to list as much as possible for folks who haven’t had time to look super into it. Personally I’ve not had my work skimmed by AI (never gotten big enough for that) but I know people who have and there’s really nothing that can be done about it after it’s stolen. Generative AI is, and seemingly forever will be, founded on the violation of intellectual property rights, copyright, and human rights in regards to a safe planet and that shouldn’t be seen as okay.
- 🌾 anon (if anyone needs further clarification please ask!)
while i appreciate you typing out a detailed response, i was not asking about AI in the broad sense but specifically about chatbots based on sdv characters. so #4 and 2 aren't relevant. CA is working on a new game and wont be bringing any more major updates to sdv, there's no job opportunities here.
#5 - this is very subjective. personally i dont think that Being Lazy is strictly a bad thing. just part of being human.
#3 and #1 - this is why i mentioned specific sources in my original post. most of the articles ive seen are about chatgpt, im aware of its issues. idk anything about the programs used to make sdv chatbots. what are they called? how do they work? do they rely on chatgpt? are they using its databases? are they trained the same way? are they more or less harmful than chatgpt or an older program like cleverbot? thats the kind of info i was looking for. i did get some program names so ill read about them when i have time.
and lastly... i do not care about intellectual property rights. i am a communist. copyrights and patents are capitalist inventions that stifle creativity and progress.

hi manon!
i have a question about itch, cause i uploaded my demo like a week ago and its like views and plays have gone down to zero already for like two days. and i dont know if i did something wrong or if its normal.
im sure your games are like hundreds of views for weeks, but is there something i can do or is it already over for me? IM FREAKING OUT
Oh hi worried anon!
THIS IS SUPER NORMAL!
New releases bring in tons of views (and plays/downloads), but it weans down pretty quickly. It will go back up when people share your linked posts (assuming your have a demo post here/other social media) and when you update the demo (it goes right back to the top of the New pile*). *abusing the update button to get back to the top can flag itch.io
How fast it weans down does depend on a lot of things, many you can't really control (followers, engagement, algorithm, etc). But what you have included in the demo, will have an effect: a 100k words demo with a lot of branching will tend to have more returning players than a short 1k words linear prologue. Visual, Audio, Interactivity, Writing Style, Genre, Tropes... all that too...
Do check that your page is properly published on itch (and that you allows downloads and searches) and you can open your page in a Private Browser Mode to see how a random user will see your page! (if your page is quarantine you should contact itch.io support)
There are things that could help, but it is never a sure thing:
sharing your project to directories (like @interact-if)
using the tags correctly on Tumblr (like #interactive fiction)
filling the Metadata of your game on itch (so it can be found better)
engaging with your current followers
engaging with other authors
sharing your work on other platforms (like the CoG Forum if you're doing CScript or IF discords)
...
But yeah, readers will come and go. If you are happy with what you are doing, that's what matters. :)
but yeah... don't worry anon! It's totes normal!
Anyways, if you want some very unfair comparison (because I have a lot more projects on hands, and that stacks), click below for bad screenshots...
Yeah, I do get a couple hundreds of views per week, but...
Tumblr media
that includes ALL the games I've made (which are two good dozens now, including the experiments and WIPs), the templates and the guides. I have like... 48 different pages between everything... (I know it's from April, but this month is not a "regular" month in hits)
But not all projects bring the same amount of players. Most of the time, my big WIP on hiatus and my SugarCube guide are the ones showing hits (aside from new releases).
Some graphs below:
Tumblr media
My recently released parser, currently in a competition (so there is a bit more traction). It will die after it, because it's a parser.
Tumblr media
Compared to Jeangille's Letters which was released in French first, then English in April. It's a wonder if I get a play now... :/
Tumblr media
To the Binksi I made last week that resonated with some people (it's going down).
Tumblr media
And that's my big WIP (over 100k words) which hasn't updated in a LONG TIME
Tumblr media
And that's my Twine Guide.
Another Anon a while back said I was only popular because of my guide/template, and NGL some days, that anon is right.

hi! its incredible/intrusive tjoughts anon. honestly its nothing serious i just want advice lol.
so basically i identify as pan(tomantic) and non binary (transmasc).
basically i have this cousin who im REALLY close eith since shes the only family close to my age (we have a year differencs)
basically i do live in a very homophobic place, as i think ive said before but i think that she might be queer (bi specifically)
and here are my proofs:
1) the subtle one being, when its just the both if us watching something all she points out is how beautiful/amazing/gorgeous wtc the women look. nothing abt the guys. (not that im complaining cz women serious do slay)
i know that she also likes men because i remember watching this scene with her and one other cousin where the guy (wesrung a ehite) shirt fell into the water and was coming out (of the water).
me, personally, i was disgusted and i thiught my cousins would share the same opinions. nope. they rewatched the scene twice i think, their eyes were glued onto the screen ans they were both red.
2) the second one being, as ive mentioned before, i am a religious person qnd so is she. but we have this tradition where we go onto the roof and just talk about stuff we normally would never talk about. we basically kid of vent to each other too.
and there we've talked alot about queer people, and being a religious queer person and its clear that our views on the topic are very similar.
(i never bring up queer people bcz im scared of giving myself up, and usually people do not go around asking others abt their opinion on them. and yeah i feel like she was relieved when i explaijed that the last thing i wanted was for them to die)
niw into the veey obvious tells:
3) my cousin and i were bored so i took out markers and we decided to draw on my leg (dont ask me how we decided that that was the best thing to do.) but basically out if everything she couldve drawn, she drew the rainbkw but as a bi flag.
i saw it and when i pointed it out, she kind of looked panicked? so i just left it.
4) this one is like glaringly obvious tell. basically obv everyone knows, the tt algorithm works overtime and honestly i rarely get anything im not interested in.
so me, obv i have short hair, and when im sleeping/when im alone with other women you could easily tell that wtv is happening is not straight cis shit.
but basically i was changing so i just shed off my outer layer, underneath i was wearing this like sleeveless sweater and i had tracksuit bottoms underneath. my hair was oulled back in a half bun.
tell me why she says oh you look like thise masc lesbians in my tiktok fyp.
like FIRSTLY what are the masc lesbians doing on ur feed?? how have you watched them eniugh to know the specific terms??
basically idk if im maybe reading inti this but sometimes i genuinely feel like im going mad and i want to kind of come out ti someone irl cz i litr need someoen to see me, and recognize my efforts.
so. i just need advice, cz she knows quite alit if the terms as well, and ive noticed that homophobic people usually do not. (e.g. my brother does not know anthign other than gay and lesbian and queer cz he likes to throw them out as insukts)
but she does know, not all, but quite a few. (i only know nearky all cz for a while my obsession, idk what people call thus but basically i become obsessed with a tooic, research alot about it and then just leave it?. was like all the different types of labels and which umbrellas they fall under. so ive done alot of research on this matter which actually freaks alot of people out)
ive just realised i actually ramble alot so thankyou for making it this far lol
(also i just got hiccups wriitng this and theyre OISSING ME KFF)
Hi!
I feel like it's a pretty good assumption that your cousin is open-minded. I think it might be a good idea, next time you guys are having a rooftop conversation, to bring up queer people you know. Celebrities, mutual friends, etc. Ask her how she feels about those people. If she's cool with it, that's a good signal that you can come out.
Also think about- if you've told her other secrets, has she told other people? If not, then you can trust her with something like this.
As far as your cousin's sexuality- I'm not sure if you're reading into it. But remember, even if you come out to her, she might not return the gesture even if she IS queer. She might not be ready, and that's okay! Just continue to be a safe space for her no matter who she likes.

please tell me why reblogging is better why reposting is bad? honestly cause i'm confused the reason why i repost is because i'm showing that i love their art and want it to be on my page as well that's all to show that i love it
so first off, theres really no need to send me almost the same ask twice. I feel like every time I talk to you, you're sending me 2-4 inboxes that all say the same thing and then sometimes you turn around an send me three more that say something else but those three also all say the same thing. The third thing you added is a valid addition which I'll also touch in here but this first and second thing you said to me are almost exactly the same and truthfully and honestly there is no reason for it.
Now. Tumblr is a form of social media people posting, especially posting fancreations a lot of time thrive on that interaction. Unlike most social medias, tumblr doesnt have a big algorithm that pushes content out to be seen.
On a normal social media, if you liked a post, the algorithm would say 'this is a post people like, lets show more people' and more people would see it. This is tumblr.
Reblogging is tumblr's best version of that. It boosts the content. Reblogging is how things get shared across here. Because if I posed something and you reblogged it and someone saw your reblog (which, yes, would be on your page) and liked it, both you and the person who made it will get that like. And you want the person who made the art you like to know people like it don't you? A lot of times that's what encourages them to make more.
If you repost it, you're stealing it from them, and any like only goes to you.
"reblogging: you are giving a direct link and source to the original art, and you can tag it so it reaches the target audience. you are supporting the artist and helping their art gain notes and show others who created it
reposting: you blatantly take an artists work and post it without credit to the artist when you can give a simple @ to them. it doesnt help the original poster gain any sort of traction and credit and notes they deserve for their work."
@cr4shqueen (who you wrongfully blocked and reported)
Tumblr media
I really, really, really want to be ab;e to say that this is understandable. Because it would be. if you were 11. or 12. or 13. or MAYBE even 14. But you claim to be 25, so, if you aren't 25, you should admit that to me now because it changes a lot of the circumstance that you are in, but otherwise, you really don't have an excuse to have been on tumblr for 2+ years and still not understand what a reblog does. Either way, let me show you
This is Ryver's blog
Tumblr media
Now lets say Ryber is scrolling tumblr and she finds some artwork she really likes (im going to be using some of my own for this example)
In this examply, Ryver really likes this picture of tiny rory
Tumblr media
Because this is my post, you see @the-rorster at the top. Because I drew it. You know who the artist is, me, because its my post.
Ryver can click this reblog button right here
Tumblr media
Ryver now has the option to say anything on the main post or add tags
Tumblr media
She might decide to say something nice right here, but you should never comment on how you want something changed, or don't like something. Ryver can say "This is cute!" but she shouldn't say "You shouldn't have made him tiny. I don't like him tiny" this is important to note. Dont talk about things you dont like in this section
When she's done, Ryver hits the blue reblog
The creator gets a notification like this
Tumblr media
now they KNOW someone liked their content
this number (which was 21 before) goes up
Tumblr media
this number shows how many people enjoyed the content you made/how many times someone has interacted with it
AND the post is on ryvers blog
Tumblr media
The exact same way it would be if she reposted it, the only difference is that my name is still there, so you still know who drew it, and I still get any interaction it gets from ryvers blog
People have lost out on thousands of dollars because of other people reposting instead of reblogging. I definitely don't want my favorite Benny artists missing out on thousands of dollars. I don't think you do either, so maybe start reblogging so that you arent the reason it happens. Because I know you don't want to be a theif.
This is also why crediting the original creator is important if they give you permission to crop it. So that people who see it from your blog can go and see the whole thing. Which you should want if youre trying to show you love the art

ah you changed your user and i could not find you! how could you lol! glad you're still here <3 i'm gonna add to the filler spree convo we're mostly in rn and idk idk i don't know if it's mostly fandom. i feel like it's money?? why would a dude who makes six figures on patreon alone care about youtube's adsense?? idk idk greed?? but since it takes more effort to routinely make a cohesive and engaging plot and the views for lore drop videos (which i wish erik would stop those even tho i like lore and incorporate the info into videos with relevant plot lines like how in books and movies they don't recommend those writers info dump) and plot-heavy works that aren't inversion don't get views.
the only 100k view videos the past 3/4 months are sleep audios cause of those casual listeners (and not even the gavin one which at least had some v v v slight character development in it). if all you had to do was stick a mic near your chest for your heartbeat and breathe to get 140k+ views lmao and your (albeit poorly done) final episode of a villain's plot doesn't crack 50k then you'll prob heed to those casual listeners. he used to make celebratory discord posts when characters got their first 100k views on a video, he made a big deal when that now-moved lasko in the movie theater audio reached a million views, and he had a patreon livestream around when he made the mario tournament audio where he lightly mentioned it being a bummer when videos didn't do well (he made light of it but still).
he mentioned in an old q&a about doing this to tell stories the way he wanted, but i feel like the views and money are what's steering him away from it??
HELLO!!! Yes im still here! Not leaving now and dont plan on it anytime soon lol. Im happy you found me again 😊
I feel like money is literally the only other option aside from the possibility that hes simply lost interest in the stories he was telling. Maybe he still cares about telling good stories deep down, but i think even if thats true the views and money is winning out. Which is just sad, this started out as a hobby and it should stay as such. Especially with him having so many patrons on top of his IRL job. Patrons don’t just…. Leave easily. He might lose casual viewership, but patrons and dedicated fans would stick around if he started valuing quality>quantity again. Do you know how happy i would be if he started uploading less often in favor of releasing better written, plot-centric videos??? You would Not believe it. And youtubers who do that literally garner a dedicated fanbase, there are artists out there who have a trove of patrons supporting them through several months without releasing art because they love it and its of high quality. Erik is more than capable of doing that.
I really do just think the man has so much potential, and i feel its not being executed to its peak right now. If he sat down and gave himself even like…. Idk one upload a week or one every two weeks, he could be writing better thought out videos.
Anyways, i definitely agree with you that its the money and views steering him away. Which is a damn shame, bc once again… 6 figures on patreon + a day job. He does not need to kneel for The Algorithm™️.
Views/hits/likes dont determine the value or quality of your art. Ignore the views, write a good story because its something you wish to make FUCK what other people think! Create from your heart knowing its the best you could put out in that moment, not just something you think will garner views. You know how amazing some videos with 1k views are on youtube??? Fics with 100 hits??? Art with 6 likes???? Just Create with all you are, others will find your passion and feel blessed to have been able to do so.

Tumblr media
Hope you dont mind me screencapping this but its the general attitude here that theres no such thing as degrees of severity. All versions of one action are as equally bad as the worst possible scenario.
When in reality, data farming for advertising isnt even effective for the purpose of, well, advertising. Because algorithms dont know the difference between someone youre searching for for casual entertainment and a 2am wikipedia rabbit hole about televangelists. Its all just data to it, so half the ads you get arent even truly targeted. We have a lot of french interpreters at work, my phones mic picked it up at some point, and now every single youtube ad i get on my switch without exception is in french. I dont speak french and i dont live in a french province. This is utterly useless in the effort to make me buy something, but its how the algorithm works. Phone picks up a common language spoken around me, i used my phone to sign in to youtube on my switch way back when, now my ads are french because it took raw data out of the context of my real life and applied it. Woop-dee-doo!
And even then, this doesnt take into account that most people still dont like ads and they are not any more likely to click on it if youre advertising something in their interest sphere. If they want it, theyll get it independently of being advertised to. The most an ad really does is remind someone who already planned on buying something that "oh yeah, im gonna do that."
And besides, im gonna be honest... what exactly does everyone think is so special about them that they would be in danger among the millions of other users data? Is it being a gay communist, on the gay communist website? Yeah, get in line. I dont think theyre gonna send the feds to raid your house because you said that unions are good on tumblr of all places. If I didnt get arrested for watching porn in the gulf then you arent getting a police raid in your western home for your tumblr posts. They dont care. They really dont. Calm down.
I know this post will get me death threats but after growing up in an actual surveillance state where saying the word "Qatar" on facebook would get federal agents outside your house i find it very hard to sympathize with people who act like social media sites selling your browsing data to advertising companies is the equivalent of NSA surveillance.
Kathy you are a bisexual 15 year old who watches centaurworld for 7 hours a day who needs to blacklist donald duck because he reminds you of your ex who liked ducktales and you didnt know the difference between discomfort and being triggered when your english teacher asked you to defend your position that 1984 was problematic rape apologism with textual evidence instead of telling you how woke you were like what makes you think tumblr knowing you have an iiluminaughtii video open in the other tab to try to sell you a new age pagan keychain is just as bad as the CIA having your social security number and a list of known leftists and unionizers. Relax.

Okay I’m making this while tired but I figure I can at least get it started and smart people can add on. if you’re here from jrwitwt first off HELLO!!! Welcome. I know there have been several posts going around saying watch your step, we do things differently here, and to get with it, that might seem a bit intimidating. So I wanted to make this non-exhaustive list of how tumblr works and HOW we do things different so you can get settled in :)
also these are just to the best of my ability and based off my time here i am by no means a standard, just a starting point
-You might’ve heard this one already but there isn’t much of an algorithm here. You can follow certain tags and blogs. The best way to find people is to just scroll through tags and check out blogs whose posts you enjoyed
-reblogging is standard. Likes are typically for letting a mutual(or anyone rlly) know you saw their post or during liveblog sessions(at least that’s how I use them) while we have replies on posts that might look like a comment section. It really isn’t most of the time. Comments are normally put in the tags of reblogs. It’s completely okay if your blog is just reblogs that’s super normal here. you don’t have to have an original thought if you don’t want to
-If you really don’t want to post/lurk and only follow ppl, change your pfp so we know you aren’t a bot. Blank blogs have a history of being bots and if we can’t tell you’re a person a lot of people will block on sight. Just fair warning
-We do a lot of blocking here. If you don’t like someone’s posts, block em and keep going. The filter tags system on tumblr really works(I’ve heard twt is fussy and not great) and most people tag things appropriately here so you Will Not see the shit you don’t want to
-TAG THINGS APPROPRIATELY PLEASE it’s a give and take. When it comes to spoilers, as long as the original poster tagged it you normally don’t have to tag it again in a reblog but you can out of courtesy
-Bonus point a lot of us use “jrwilb” as a tag when everyone is on the dash liveblogging a stream ep or just when they get around to watching it. Some people have personalized ones, and some ppl also main tag their liveblogs so it’s just a good one to know ahead of time
-People chit chat through asks frequently. You don’t have to feel shy abt it, esp if you are being friendly. But if you’re anxious a lot of people leave on anon asks so you don’t have to have your name attached
-We don’t really do callouts/negativity posts. If you see a take or headcanon you aren’t fond of going around. You can block/filter, or you can make a positivity post or post abt your own interpretation!!! A lot of people here love different takes and headcanons and try to value all of them. Again, if one squicks you really bad, filter/block it. If you really wanna complain, be sure to do it in dms or a private discord server
-our concept of what jokes are okay to post are very lax. there really isnt an official thing but i’ve tended to notice we dont really tend to do anything the council havent done. we joke abt gillion tits and eggs here because the council have done it. we have made very lewd jokes because  . . . mcs and everything else grizzly does when he’s not playing dakota. so be prepared to be jarred by how . . . interesting it gets here
Okay that’s all I can think of for now. Members of councilblr feel free to add anything smile

Girl, you are choosing the wrong hill to die on. You don't like abortion? Fucking great, don't get one. It's that simple. I dont know how tf you showed up on my tl, but I sincerely hope I never see your blog again. Forced pregnancy is a war crime and a crime against humanity (ICC in case you think im lying). But even if it weren't, if someone doesn't want to be pregnant, then they don't need to be pregnant. I cannot stand you and people like you. Don't get an abortion if you dont like them, but don't act like they're a bad thing or that the people that get them or bad. Why do you feel as though you get to dictate anything in my life or anyone else's? Who told you you were entitled to my body? If a fetus is a living human that deserves respect or what the hell ever yall say, then take it out of my body. Oh wait, you can't, because it is using my body to create itself. If I dont want to have a baby, then im not going to have a baby.
1) Next time anon, reblog and reply directly to the post that upset you, coward.
2) If your lazy ass actually took the time to read my blog, you'd have seen that I already addressed pretty much everything you brought up here.
3) You clearly don't understand how pregnancy works. All the fetus needs from you is shelter and nutrition. She does not "use" your body, YOUR body PROVIDES for her. She is a baby, she cannot impose her will upon your body, and it's really weird that you charactize her as having any agency in pregnancy when she can't even consent. She grows and develops using the nutrition provided by your body, she does not use any piece of your body to "create" her own body.
4) Yeah, I will die on this hill with the people you advocate to be murdered. Kim, there's people that are dying. I stand with them on this damned hill.
5) You saw my post because I used the right hashtags to convince the algorithm to show you it. I wanted to challenge you. You're welcome. You're blocked from my ask box, byyye
To my followers: I am trying out a new technique of "benevolent demoralization". I know it's not my usual polite and gracious tone, but I think it's important to show you all examples of how to knock pro-aborts down a few pegs, especially when you know they're engaging you in bad-faith.

if you are a blank blog/no pfp just a friendly reminder i Will reach out to let you know how this site works because im assuming youre new and dont understand the culture and letting yall know seems best but heres some main takeaways:
Tumblr is anonymous. please please please dont use your name as or in your url. its a really important aspect of this site to maintain that anonymity and most of the time its an easy way to identify porn bots- they use peoples names. if you have your name in your url its an easy way to get blocked.
your blog is your blog. you dont have to make a single ounce of content, but the point of it is to save the content you like for later, which is done through reblogging. reblogging makes a save that can only be deleted by you, even if the original poster deactivates or deletes it. this is a really cool feature! it means you’ll never lose stuff you like!
if you like to lurk, thats okay! tumblr likes dont actually do/mean anything though, and is not actually any sort of a real way to show the people making stuff that you like what theyre doing or support them. if you want there is a setting to make your blog private- it means people wont see anything but your username and your profile picture without a password
speaking of profile picture! if you do not have one people will think you are a bot. they will block you for being a bot. it doesnt matter what it is it could be the color gray just avoid using the tumblr default profile picture.
tags! tags are an easy way to add commentary or share anecdotes or ramble without interrupting the content of the post. people love these! they are widely supported, and usually can “pass peer review” as a way of saying that someone else thought what you said was funny/important enough to share in the main post, either by screenshot or copy pasting, and tagging the person who made them. usually, we do not/did not start the “prev tags” thing. it can have its uses, but nobody likes a hunt through prev tags. if its more that 2/3 people back, the culture here isnt to pissy about copy pasting, and if youre worried about credit, just add another tag with their name
🌟bonus round 🌟 tumblr is actively unmarketable and does not want our information to be sold or used. this means that you Should Not Use the algorithm, particularly, you should curate your dash and follow people. a large part of the point is chronological consumption, and that old posts recirculate indefinitely. take advantage of the benefits from the site, and understand that the nonsensical ads are because of the lack of information tumblr is collecting on us. they are protecting our privacy and our information. we want to make sure it continues that way. due to tumblr protections of us, and the way that it is following-based rather than algorithm-based, this also means you Do Not Need to censor anything. this includes heavy content, swear words, silly ridiculous threatening posts that are unhinged and unrealistic. censoring isn’t necessary here. like i said, take advantage of the benefits of being here. its good here.
thats all, i hope yall newbies enjoy tumblr! good luck!
