Oh, I have this one story idea in my mind, based on this one art...

Can't say much without spoilering , but this story has some angsty development. Like, very angsty.

Other than this, it's also a story about how AruAni met and fell in love, so some kind of strangers to lovers, with a lot of immediate attraction and interest, all set in Switzerland, 1911.

The caption in the original post - "It was the love at first sight" - is a leitmotif of this whole story.

I've been thinking about it while working on this drawing, and I didn't consider writing it, but the more time passes - the more I think that, eventually, I'll write it...

Oh, good question! I don't really have a lot of fics, but I think I would love to write for Neverland of (Our) Desires, the Fort Salta oneshot-sequel, where AruAni are caught in feelings and have an awkward-silly conversation about their boat *adventure*, with all these emotions and feelings of having the life ahead of them and not knowing what to do with it... Oh well, oh well, such a potential 🤌

12 - a trope you’re really into right now

Hm... Honestly, I've been into Forbidden Love or Star-crossed Lovers tropes recently...

It's quite canonical AruAni, to be honest, and I just love to think about it in different AUs and canon-compliant too, so yes, I would say these ones! And here a remark, that Forbidden Love/Star-crossed Lovers don't mean that it's a tragic ending - more like obstacles and a lot of angst, which challenge the characters and their love, and how it all develops within the plot.

14 - where do you get your inspiration?

You know, I thought I had a proper answer for it, but when I started typing it, I realized, that, in fact, I don't.

If I'm totally honest - I don't think I even have something special as "inspiration". I have ideas that pop up in my mind on their own, and then, I turn them into story or a moment in the fic, but I never particularly searched for it. I suppose, it's also a consequence of my constant art and literature involving, where I read/observe/study something, so I have this almost never-stopping source of new experience and knowledge, which leads to ideas and inspiration to create my own stories/drawings.

So, I think that my inspiration is constant studying and sources of knowledge.

Wait is this directly inspired by How to train Your Dragon?

Some aspects are- the beastiary, dragon armor, and some of the dragon designs. I took inspiration from dragon depictions in a lot of different media.

Games like Day of Dragons and Minecraft help me come up with characters and landscape ideas!

One of my favourite little things about Apollo is how casual his and the Fates' relationship was.

Now, this isn't to understate how grave the Fates were in any way, as a matter of fact, it's written multiple times about the complex interplay between the Fates and Zeus (Stobaeus even wrote that the Fates were given the seat closest to Zeus' throne so he could better give counsel on all things from their machinations)

Indeed, even Zeus was beholden to them and even though the Fates usually left things up to natural course (and Zeus in his position as Moiragetes - that is, the Leader of Fates could even intercede on these events, even interrupting when a someone was set to die) in a lot of ways, there are many, many things that even Zeus could never interfere with, things that were above even the King of the Heavens. Some really good examples are things like Persephone's Abduction which the Fates ruled as necessary for the propagation of the seasons and his marriages to Themis and Hera.

By all accounts really, the Fates were incredibly stern, incredibly grave deities who presided over law, order, birth and death and even worked with the Furies to punish those who broke the sacred laws!

And then you have Apollo who was also known by the title Moiragetes (In Delphi, there were only two Moirai depicted and in place of the third was Zeus and Apollo Moiragetes according to Pausanias) but who did things like, checks notes, send the Fates to be the midwives of his paramour Evadne when she had to deliver his son alone in secret (by the way, he also sent the actual goddess of childbirth to help. The Fates absolutely did not need to also be there, he was taking every precaution:

and get the Fates drunk so they would agree to save his bestie Admetus' life:

Keep in mind btw - this con Apollo pulled for Admetus was multi-layered and even included getting Heracles to wrestle Thanatos and keep him still so Apollo could proceed to help Admetus cheat Alcestis away from Fates when Admetus expressed regret for making his wife die in his place:

And I cannot stress enough that Apollo faced zero consequences for this nonsense. NONE. The Fates weren't even cordial with other Gods - they're almost never referred to directly, they were often depicted apart from other deities or described as old, ugly and unable to walk (though, generally speaking they were artistically depicted as young maidens!) and apart from comforting Demeter by going to personally explain what happened to Persephone in some versions of the story, they didn't really get humanised the way most of the other gods or spirits did. Usually they're referred to euphemistically, or someone will speak distantly about a prophecy they once heard was designed by the Fates but Apollo? Apollo knew the Fates! He was good friends with the Fates! And I think it's even cooler when you consider that both instances of Apollo showing off his Fate's Favourite privilege have to deal with birth (of Iamus) and death (of Alcestis/Admetus) which were the two points most deeply associated with the Moirai and why there were usually depictions of them as a pair over that of a triad.

(Excerpts sourced from Theoi, Aeschylus' Eumenides, Pindar's Olympian 6 and Statius' Silvae; though just a note, one instance of the Fates' involvement with Apollo is misquoted on Theoi - that is the Fates being present for Apollo's birth, that's actually a misinterpretation of Evadne's birthing of Iamus.)

one thing i noticed (form personal experience and by observing other artists) is that the longer you draw and create, the more boring it gets to simply replicate references, especially when it comes to characers' fashion choices.

with bnha, i keep mine pretty simple and basic because teens ARE very trend-loyal, but mainly im just lazy lol, but when i AM motivated, i love to think about characters' personal style, what could influence them, but also more trivial things such as budget into account, which is why i love to draw Deku in basic tees or clothes provided by his school (while bakugo gets to wear ed hardy and shoto wears arcteryx). i also love to limit the items like its just more realistic to me when someone as ordinary as deku wears the same 5 crewnecks all the time

which brings me to my actual point, namely that the more frequently you draw, the more you learn to do research andto combine your findings into sth new rather than staying faithful to one reference, and i think that's what makes good art so good, being able to draw inspiratioin from all kinds of niches and creating something that feels very authentic and suspends the spectator's disbelief. sometimes i see art and i know exactly which fashion editorial or which kpop idol was referenced, and I'm not insinuating these are bad things i do that too (less frequently now but i sure did!), my point is it's kind of nice to see how ALL artist start out with rather derivative art but eventually move on to create more authentic art that is less about drawing beautiful and perfect people and more about trying to individualize them and that ALSO means giving them weird clothes, scars, asymmetric eyes, a receding hairline etc. like drawing the same beautiful character 200 times gets so boring and it's just more fun to try and make them a bit more human

#i do have a lot of fashion headcanons but i rarely actually draw like that im so lazy #and again im also still stikcing to references and sometimes pretty closely #but this is an observation that i like to think about #as i said i just love artists that draw from a big and diverse source of references and inspirations #and the same applies to other forms of art as well ofc #just because you enjoy one genre and want to write in that genre doesnt mean you should limit your knowledge and inspiration to that genre #its pretty detrimental like you have to read ALL kinds of things #otherwise it's hard NOT to create a derivative work #and you see that with a lot of mangas #like you can kinda tell which battle shonen mangkas are only into other battle shonen and which ones are well read overall #SORRY #or when people who only read fics write their first original story and its an apposition of tropes #my point is its important to dabble in all kinds of niches #dont aim for perfect skills in one niche i think its more fun and beneficial to give everything a try

Well...damn.

I finally watched The Phantom of the Opera, and now I have to grapple with how much Operetta makes absolutely no sense.

Like I'm wracking my brain, and the only conclusion I've come to is that she'd make sense if she wasn't a ghost at all, but a siren.

Maybe after years of being cast out by his fellow humans, Erik finds refuge in the monster world which welcomes him with open arms, and also gives him the chance for a new start.

And given his love of opera, he falls in love with a siren and they have a child together. Thusly making Operetta half human, half siren.

This way, she can keep her hypnotizing voice, since she sure as hell wouldn't have gotten it from Erik.

#keese draws #rain world #rain world survivor #rain world monk #rain world hunter #rain world artificer #rw survivor #rw monk #rw hunter #rw artificer #I don’t have the motivation to draw everyone else but I’ll share some tidbits of my hcs #gourmand is a scug that actually can invert their stomach but they usually don’t #spearmaster’s spear creation was engineered through modified mucus glands #I’ve talked abt this before but saint’s ‘fur’ isn’t actually fur but an insulating coat of thick foamy motified mucus #and rivulet spends a Lot more time grooming than any of the other scugs #not out of necessity they just need to get that extra energy out somehow during the long rains #but yeah I’m a fluffy slugcat hater sorry furries in the chat they are slimy lil guys to me #oh to be clear the purposed for cleaning hc is inspired by the pipe slugs but not directly referencing them #in my hcs oh scugs were typically more for getting junk out of larger bodies of water with pipes being more of a secondary thing #they were never fully aquatic but they used to be much more partially aquatic than their current counterparts #this changed as the inputs and outputs of their main food sources stopped functioning and they were forced to more and more so scavenge #in my minds eye their tails were originally used as a floaty of sorts for when they dunked their heads underwater to feed #but after they left the water they eventually lost the pouch of air in their tails so now their tails are mostly a nuisance #they do make grooming easier at least since reached to their backs every time would be hard

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh today I've been constantly experiencing the urge to un-private today-in-the-devildom & start writing for it again

#i'm gonna ramble in the tags but #i've been talking with starr (if you're reading this--hi starr!! <3) about the blog today and sharing some of the entries #and it just made me miss it so much #+ the conversation actually made me realize some other reasons why i didn't enjoy the blog in general anymore #like i genuinely love the blog and i genuinely loved writing for it & that conversation reminded me of that #but also there were so many reasons that ultimately pushed me to more or less abandon the blog & then later private it too #so i'm kind of at a loss here #tbh i think i'm mostly just scared to pick the blog up again only for it to end exactly like last time i picked it back up #i've actually always wanted for the blog to be a source of inspiration y'know?#like the things mentioned in the entries are kinda just small ideas right #i was hoping that people would read these & feel inspired to write or draw something of their own based on my entries #that was actually what made me start the blog in the first place. the hope that i could inspire others that way #aaahhhhhh.... maybe it's on me since i could have more openly communicated that idea......#i did get to meet one wonderful person who wrote a few fics based on my entries tho!! reading the forgotten realms wiki for gnomes is so funny because dnd lore for gnomes has waffled so much between editions, and 5e doesn't get as deep into gnomes (or any race lore tbh) as earlier editions did, so as someone who's been extrapolating pretty much exclusively out of 5e a lot of it's just like...... wrong

#'forest gnomes are 2ft tall very primitive and secretive hunter gatherers'#fkdjhgkdf oh okay well......... I could have vibed with that if it was true but also no they're not lmao #I've built my own lore from the ground [flavortext in the pbh] up. my city now!!#there's definitely inspiration to be drawn from here and reinforcement for vibes or concepts I already picked up or had myself #or expansion on worldbuilding concepts only very fleetingly touched on in the PHB #but also we're working with like. 'all gnomes inherently have [ability mechanics that still exist in 5e but that gnomes don't get]'#I mean this IS the upside of modern dnd not giving much of a shit about gnomes (or-- again-- fleshing out any of the races meaningfully)#lots of creative freedom! most of my DMs aren't particularly interested in them either so I can do whatever I want forever #on the other hand though I genuinely do LIKE building off of given lore whenever possible #so it is also kind of annoying that gnome lore is so inconsistent that it's like...#okay well official dnd source material for them is no more or less useful than watching the Gnomes tv movie #or looking up irl folklore #¯\_(ツ)_/¯#about me #gnome stuff

time of contempt!yenralt is geralt not trusting yennefer and being too scared of upsetting her to say it and sleeping with her anyway and the way netflix!geralt is different, that would never work.

i don't think the writers aren't fighting yennefer's arc in season 2 nearly as much as they are fighting this other version of geralt. and well... i wish some nuances of character interaction had gone a bit differently in season 2, but the thing that irritates me more than anything else in adaptations is when changes are made and the production backs off on them rather than following through. so whatever. i'm more interested to see what they do than anything else.
