TWST PARENTS! Leech, Draconia and Kingscholar!!

First of all, I must warn you that these designs may change in the future, either because the game presented us with the official designs, or just because I really wanted to change... Or I could reuse these designs for these characters! Given that warning...

Guys, gals, and non-binary pals. I present to you, the Leech, Draconia, and Kingscholar families!

Mr and Mrs Leech attract as much attention as their children, who at first may give off a friendly and calm image... But, they are Floyd and Jade's parents, and they are certainly hiding some things. They are an extremely passionate couple, much to the misfortune of their children (who would rather be anywhere else than witnessing their parents exchanging vows of love). Floyd and his mother have very similar personalities, of course Mrs. Leech knows how to mask her real feelings better than her son. And Jade grew up having a similar personality to his father, who knows very well how to get what he wants and who to manipulate to achieve his goals.

Lady Maleficia, certainly a mysterious and emblematic figure who rarely appears publicly these days… Maybe this has something to do with Meleanor's death? She doesn't seem to make contact with anyone other than Malleus or Lilia (with whom she has a complicated relationship) and the Briar Valley Senators.

King and Queen Kingscholar The royal family has many interesting stories, especially when it comes to the youth of the king and queen and their little adventures before they had their children, Falena and Leona Kingscholar. The king is described by many as a kind leader, but who also tends to be strict… In order to maintain peace in the kingdom. The queen has always been described as a determined and courageous woman. Before being crowned queen, she was part of the royal guard and was considered one of the most powerful warriors in the kingdom. Due to his father's illness, Falena had many responsibilities imposed on him from a very early age, and he often felt insecure and uncertain about his decisions… The good thing is that he often had his mother by his side to help and support him in difficult times. Leona has always been more attached to his mother.

WELL…. IT WAS QUITE A LOT.

And I'm still going to draw pictures of other members of the TWST families, so please bear with me a little… I'm going as fast as I can! I still have some ideas I want to explore with these characters, so maybe you'll see them more often!

What if: Tweels in love

So I was scrolling through lofter the other day and found a meme post in which OP mentioned how some characters might act in a relationship. Nothing particularly new/interesting about other characters, but the things they said about the tweels stuck in my head so I'm obligated to share /j

OP mentioned they often read fics in which Floyd is clingy (nothing wrong with the fics), but if Floyd is really in love he won't act like that. Floyd himself said that he hated being clung into, e.g. despite how close he is with Azul and Jade, he's not gonna do what he doesn't want to for them (unless he is forced *vaguely pointing at Azul's ceremonial robes story*). Therefore, a long-term relationship with Floyd requires a certain degree of freedom, even when Floyd and his lover are not physically close, there will still be trust in each other. Like Floyd is someone who can cling to his lover all day when he's in the mood, but when he's bored he can leave for a solo adventure for years (✿◠‿◠) Nonetheless, if you become one of the few Floyd genuinely treasures, Floyd'll love you in his own way e.g. getting you souvenirs which remind him of you on his trip, because his love language is not saying "I'll love you forever" but savoring the present with you, trust & independence from each other.

Jade, however, is the opposite. He's not really into land and he's not bored of the sea, but he's willing to go to NRC to stay with Azul and Floyd. In the Starsending event, his wish is to make their wishes come true; and in main story book 7, he's the only one of the Octatrio to dream of the three of them spending time together. Not only that, but he also dreams of them exploring the mountains with him, being straightforward about their feelings with him, letting Jade protect them when they're in danger etc. Therefore, Jade will enjoy it very much if his lover cares about his hobbies and spends time with him, if his lover comes to him when they're in trouble so he can protect/support his lover (which Azul and Floyd do not want to do because they're more independent), if his lover is candid about their feelings including jealousy and alike etc.

TLDR: Between the two Leeches the clingy one is Jade 😋

thinking about rafe & coryo & anakin & astarion and how imo their inherrent appeal (if you pick up on any) is supposed to be in the fact that something is extremely wrong with them (or they aren’t meant to have any appeal at all). bc i don’t understand the stans who are so selective with reading and hearing they try to argue otherwise like were you so blinded you ignored the glaringly & obviously bad things about them??????? rafe & coryo & anakin later especially?????????

every time someone asks me about why i have a pet leech and why i feed it on me and i gotta be like welll you see i find theres a sort of grounding aspect to having a relationship to an animal that is parasitic and where you dont just give the animal food, you ARE the animals food, and a leech is a very safe way to feel like i am in some way integrated, even if minimally, in a food chain that i have largely been able to discard; i am never under any impression that the leech likes me or even has the capacity to like me or have any particular opinion about me, and in fact i dont really see it as a pet so much as just.. a creature that lives in my space and that eats a bit of me sometimes, and i kind of like having that. i think theres a certain attraction to the idea of being essentially consumed which we have very few realistic ways of actually experiencing and a leech does do that. it is profoundly fascinating to me to watch a leech actively sucking up my blood, to observe the rhythmic undulation of its body as it visibly gorges itself and to see it become larger and larger off of matter that is literally me - in much the same way that i always find myself watching my blood be drawn with a sort of visceral satisfaction, except its weirder and better.

but the reality is just well im a vampire so its funny that i also have another thing that sucks my blood lol!!!!

I actually had a dream, and while it was tangential, one element was an ancient aliens esque theory, that angels/gods were real beings, because of the consistency of this sash/stole/shawl/ribbon thing shown in art across the world.

Unfortunately for the theorists in my dream, we actually know pretty well how it went.

The ancient Romans just really liked showing deities framed by a billowing garment, "Velificatio ... represents 'vigorous movement,' an epiphany, or 'the vault of heaven,' often appearing with celestial, weather, or sea deities."

The etymology is roughly "setting sail", and Pliny the Elder describes a wind god as "Making a sail of her garment."

I sometimes call it a veil because well, the Japanese version is always really diaphanous, but as you can see in the wikipedia article, it's sometimes associated with initiations into mystery religions, where it's related to the veil or shroud Romans would put over their dead, so removing it symbolized rebirth, and (stretching a little here) it billowing around someone showed them as near but aside from death.

It's shown a lot of ways (there's this little known painting called Birth of Venus from the 15th century, check out Zephyrus in it), but, well, here's Neptune from the 3rd century:

The cloth itself doesn't really have a name, but in Japan the tennin (lit, heavenly people, analogous to angels) wear hagoromo (feathered rainment) that they sometimes need to fly.

Here's a guy doing a selkie to one. "Marry me or you'll never return to the heavens."

As you can see, a hagoromo (center) includes this exact windy sash, but there's also more to it.

I don't really have a conclusion, but thanks for the ask, prompting me to retrace my path learning about it.

Carlos's mention in the wedding special and how they handled it was disappointing and vague and, in my opinion, leaves the door open to either fate

Context

So I took a peak at the Barnes & Noble bonus chapter of Melissa de la Cruz's Beyond the Isle of the Lost and Mal and Evie and Jay and Ben and even Doug are there but there's no mention of Carlos, and I don't know, that really upsets me. The Core Four aren't going to be in the movies anymore, (Disney, though intent on making more movie, at least hasn't sunken as low to recast Cameron, and Dove, Sofia, and Booboo won't return without him) they still exist in the universe (Mal's portrait, this bonus chapter, etc). And it just seems to me, as long as it's not on screen and they're continuing the franchise, Disney should include Carlos in any future books they might appear in

(Which I also believe they should do to continue Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay's story. They're intent on continuing the franchise, they've made that clear, and so tossing aside the characters that created it seems callous. Obviously there can be no more movies with them, thus, books. Also, these theoretical books could be for the YA fans of the original trilogy and thus get into the grittier details of the Isle, not the watered down happy ending that made no sense canonically in D3. As many are pointing out, Rise of Red will be for a new generation of fans)

I, personally, think that if they're set on continuing the franchise they should honor they characters should still be used (again, offscreen in books) to continue their stories and the legacies of the characters and the actors who created them, especially Cameron, as this is really his only legacy character. It also gives another way of keeping his memory alive, if they dedicate the books to him, and raise awareness for his foundation by including an page promoting it in the books.

It also seems callous to me to just toss all the work of those characters to the side, like they don't mean anything now that they can't be used in movies.

But, I am also worried want wanting this (or even asking Disney this, though I doubt they'd pay attention) that I am also just using Cameron? I just, I miss him so much, and this would keep him alive (similar to Chadwick Boseman through T'Challa. Like, they had him die in the movies as to not recast him, but there's still all the Black Panther comics and merchandise that he lives through. Yes, it's not necessarily his iteration of the character, since it did exist before him, but he's still connected with it). But should this stay in the fandom through fanfics and fanart, and not touched by Disney? But they're continuing the universe, so feels like this is just forcing him to disappear? Idk, I did another post about this after the Wedding Special, because I don't know if I'm being insensitive by wanting this. I don't think I am, I don't mean to be, but that doesn't mean I'm not.

So I set up this poll, (and set it before my rambling since who wants to read all this, lol) to get some wider perspective. Should I keep asking Disney to try and get the Core four's stories continued in books (if you're on Instagram, yup this is me) or am I being insensitive towards as them by asking for this

(The utter hopelessness of asking Disney and if I should give up because of it isn't in question, I have nothing better to do with my life than scream into the void. But if it's morally wrong.... I trust the fandom for an honest opinion on this and tumblr is the best place. And now we have polls, so......)

I stumbled upon your blog when searching for anything about Hiron Ennes’ book Leech and ur blog is so nice! I love Leech so so much and am hoping to find folks to talk about it with because I’ve been obsessed with it since I read it over year ago. I hope this isn’t too weird of an ask but it’s just such an excellent book!

i was actually shuffling books around last weekend to make space for what i'll read this year (i'm in a temporary living situation, so most of my library is in storage), and i decided to leave LEECH unboxed so i can reread it this fall. i'm obsessed with the POV and the voice and i'm VERY looking forward to a tear-it-apart reread now that i know some of what is going on. what a neat book!!
