So our own Adam V has been languishing a bit. He's asking me not to go too into detail about how he's been feeling recently, which is completely fair. There's the personal emotional reasons, and then there's the political reasons. State of the world and plural Tumblr's got him down.
He doesn't want to front much and he doesn't want to answer the friendly asks that have been sent to his side blog. For the life of me I can't tell if he's been suffering from the overall uptick in anxiety that we've had recently, or if he's been the main cause of it.
Either way my little brother could use some positivity. He's saying wholesome LGBTQ+ stuff would cheer him up quite a bit. I may as well try and find him something. We might do him some artwork as well. Time for Operation: Cheer Up Adam.

please i love you i'm begging you bring back suspension of disbelief bring back trusting the audience like. i cannot handle any more dialogue that sounds like a legal document. "hello, i am here to talk to you about the incident from a few minutes ago, because i feel you might be unwell, and i am invested in your personal wellbeing." "thank you, i am unwell because the incident was hurtful to me due to my childhood, which was bad." I CANT!!!!
do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

I feel fandom would get along a lot better if there was mutual understanding that liking a character, agreeing with a character, and thinking the character is well constructed/executed are all separate (if often overlapping) positions, each with their separate tastes and subjectivities. Also: character portrayals are intended to make the audience feel things; this is separate from (if often overlapping with) analyzing/appreciating their actions and role in the story.

something I don't see people talk about with Sydney is their theme of accountability. They cannot take responsibility for their own desires.
no matter how corrupted they won't ever say they wanted this out loud, there is like 1 encounter they initiate, they need you to change their hair.
they did everything they did for the temple and for school and for their parent, nothing for themselves. then that devotion turns to you.
I think about their hair so much, they say "I keep my hair natural because Jordan likes it" they look at the magazines at the hairdresser longingly, you can't suggest anything they don't want. But they continue to say "thanks for changing my hair" I am probably not quoting it right but the wording was so delibarate, this is what YOU wanted, they are only happy they submitted to you.
the only event where they initiate the encounter, while working the sex shop together they cuff themselves in the basement and wait for you to "take advantage of them" all playful and cute (it is cute until they do it three times in a row in a day and you just want to get your +sirris love and leave)
if you uncuff them with high lust and corruption, they cuff you instead, and if you refuse here too they just, they freeze if you make noise and sirris gets you free. otherwise they just, leave, Sirris has to resque you, it's weird it's odd
I think Sydney kinda shuts off when you fully reject their advances because they are doing what YOU desire right? you made them like this, they're supposed to be an extention of you.(forever two as one? temple teachings at it again??) literally can't comprehend they had a single selfish impulse seperate from anyone else's expectations.
anyway Sydney is fucked in the head as anyone else in this town even tho they are my sweetiepie pookie bear they need mood stabilizers so so baddd

although i rarely hear it phrased this way, i think that a lot of the moral outrage, disgust, and obsession over the idea of a trans person’s egg cracking partly due to particular kinds of sex and porn is an expression of common cultural anti-sex attitudes in general. If the culture you grow up in views sex and masturbation as dirty, debasing, shameful, and that it should be entirely contained to its own private and secret realm, then the idea of someone discovering anything of value about themselves through sex or masturbation is revolting and inherently false. if you see sex as a sin that taints everything it touches, then it makes a kind of rational sense to see any self-discovery related to sex, even tangentially, as being forever sexual and often dangerously perverse, regardless of form, content, or material removal from sex itself. it’s not just a right wing thing either. although not the same degree of problem, the vaguely leftie “we should remove all gratuitous sex scenes from media” crowd are, often without realizing, expressing the same idea that sexuality is both singularly special and without inherent worth, and that it has no place anywhere outside its private realm.

takes like these show such an immense lack of any attempt at meaningful understanding of transmasculine perspectives and experiences that it genuinely makes my head hurt. like you do realize there is a difference between not FEELING pressured to do something, and not EXPERIENCING pressure to do something, right? of course you do, but you read a few personal posts about transmascs experiencing euphoria and made a bad faith generalization on our entire social position.
sure, transmascs may feel less pressure to be attractive as personal affirmation of our masculinity. but a misogynistic society at large still continues to pressure us to be attractive and feminine. of course it is born from misogyny, but like we have been screaming for YEARS, we are still affected by misogyny.
a huge proponent of the targeted violence towards us is demonizing the effects of physical transition- about how transitioning makes us ugly (which OOP directly contributes to in this post) and ruins our value in womanhood to the potential men who want to fuck and marry and impregnate us. trans men are correctively assaulted to feminize us, largely because our oppressors see us as "deviant women who must be fixed by forcing us back into femininity, and eventually beauty." there is a literal book titled "irreversible damage" that outlines how we are "coerced into destroying our beautiful fertile bodies."
i have heard countless stories of transmascs seeking physical transition who were equally denied, because a psychiatrist deemed them as currently attractive women in their prime, who must have their value to the patriarchy preserved at all costs.
and ultimately, if despite all of this, we continue to reject white supremacist feminine beauty standards and find joy in our transition, a misogynist society that believes we have no value outside our current or potential attractiveness thinks we would be better off dead, lest we tempt other women to abandon ship.
transmascs are not your enemies! we are not experiencing wildly different things! i promise you that trans people across the spectrum will always have far more shared experiences than unique ones!
i am reaching out my hand to you, so we can stand taller and stronger against the white supremacist patriarchal pressure placed upon us both. will you reach back and grab it, or push me to the ground in an attempt to escape and save yourself?

thinking this fine morning (afternoon) about a rebellion au where anakin never joins the Jedi Order and remains a slave & is sold off of Tatooine before his mother is freed by Cliegg. Sometime during the Clone Wars when he's like 22, a Jedi frees him and the handful of fellow slaves in the area by killing their master during a fire fight with Separatist forces - after the fight, the Jedi tosses Anakin the chip controller he'd found amongst the master's belongings while looking for information on Separatist movements. He says something, witty and kind, Anakin thinks, but Anakin can't remember it - couldn't hear it over the pounding of his heart at the prospect of his own freedom
so a year later, when the Jedi Order falls and the Empire rises up, Anakin just cannot believe that the Jedi were evil. He's not and never will be a Jedi fanatic or anything, but he remembers his Jedi, the one who freed him. He remembers his smile, his kindness, the swoop of hair falling over his sweaty forehead. The way he'd winked at Anakin as he left--the way he'd cut through the master's money safe with his lightsaber to reveal hoards of physical credits, up for the taking and enough for each slave to start a new life. no, his Jedi isn't evil and so Anakin is pretty sure that the Jedi Order was never evil either.
he's only had his freedom for a year or so. it's not been much of life up until then, and it feels like an easy decision to join the Rebellion. he wants something to fight for. he wants to do something meaningful with his life now that it's finally his.
fast forward ten years and he's fairly far up in the ranks of the Rebellion, considering how good of a pilot and mechanic he is. he's got a brain for strategy and he's got a massive amount of luck on his side. It's no wonder that when the Rebel leaders decide that they need the legendary General Obi-Wan Kenobi on their side and back in the game, they tap Anakin to go retrieve him.
Anakin goes. he's never met a Jedi before, apart from his Jedi, and even though this Kenobi guy sounds like a worn-out, retired, old-man Jedi, Anakin thinks it'll be a cool experience. also, orders are orders.
imagine his surprise when the coordinates he's given to find Obi-Wan Kenobi lead him to his home planet. imagine his surprise when he knocks on Obi-Wan Kenobi's door and the very familiar face of his Jedi opens it.

As someone who was living in Europe and the US during the apartheid era, I'm honestly trying to remember, and failing to remember, a single time I heard any activists in Europe or the United States call for completely dismantling South Africa as a country because it was committing crimes against humanity.
South Africa became a nation in 1910. When it started apartheid in 1948, it was about 38 years old. By the time apartheid was dissolved, around 1991, it was ~71 years old. Under international law, apartheid is a crime against humanity, and the South African government committed other crimes against humanity, as well.
The international campaign against apartheid focused on delegitimizing South Africa's white supremacist government and supporting the development of democracy in South Africa. It did not call for South Africa's dissolution or destruction.
Why am I thinking about this?
I keep seeing US and European leftists accuse Israel of crimes against humanity and then argue that Israel must therefore be dissolved. Besides, many of these people say, modern Israel has only been independent for 77 years, so it's not really valid as a country because it hasn't been around that long.
Even though South Africa had been around for much less time during the entire anti-apartheid movement, there was not a significant contingent of Europeans and Americans arguing that the international community should just dissolve South Africa because it hadn't been around that long.
Do I think these arguments for dissolving Israel are made in good faith? No, maybe, and yes. I don't think the people who originally came up with these arguments did so in good faith. I think those people don't like the idea of a country with a largely Jewish population, because they don't like the idea of Jews. I think those people would want Israel to disappear no matter what it did.
But I think a lot of the people who repeat these ideas somehow think they're valid, legitimate arguments rooted in logic and not prejudice.
So for anyone who considers themselves pro-Palestinian and thinks that necessitates the dissolution of Israel, I'd ask you to think about why you consider that to even be an option. It's a highly unusual demand for the international community to make. What makes Israel different from any other country whose government may have done unethical things?

Tumblr media analysis gothic: In my personal opinion, based on my own individual perspective, which may not be aligned with the perspectives of others, and which is predicated on my own individual understanding and interpretation of the text, wherein the themes, characters, and events have notable elements of ambiguity such that a multitude of interpretations are possible and understandable, and said interpretations of mine are influenced by my own personal background and attributes, believe - but not at the exclusion of belief that other people may believe differently, and with full acknowledgement of the heretofore described subjectivity of my stance, which is an opinion, though I do believe in it and also wish to convey it in a persuasive manner that others will find compelling due to my argument in its support which I personally find to be well-evidenced in the text and elucidated by my interpretation of the text, on which I will elaborate at length considering all angles in order to minimize misunderstanding of my analysis - again, acknowledging the ambiguity and subjectivity at play in my interpretation - that

crazy to me that you could interpret eddie's resolution to this fight as anything other than a loving gesture by someone who understands buck to his core. buck's entire problem this episode, as shown to us multiple times and outright stated to father brian, is that he feels like everyone is getting further and further away from him in their grief. and eddie, who feels like he has not even been able to talk to buck about his feelings, KNOWS THIS. that is why he was so hesitant to tell buck about the job--because it reinforces buck's feelings that everyone is spiraling away from him.
so what does eddie do? he goes and gets chris, someone who buck loves deeply who he has been missing, and brings him to buck. eddie can't bring bobby back but he CAN do this. he can reunite buck with one of the people he loves the most in the entire world. he can show buck that he's not alone. he can make them ALL feel less alone. he can remind them that they are a family, even if it's been almost a year since they've been under one roof together

"Bruce Thomas Wayne!" the roar of a cycle cuts off abruptly and the yell rings through the cavern of the batcave.
Batman, suited up for the night, freezes stock still where he was reviewing some notes.
He turns, slowly, to greet his mentee.
"Hello Duke," he says as the Signal stalks forward.
"Fucking tell me when you put something new in my kit." Duke looks angry, an uncommon sight all things considered, especially pointed at Bruce. It happens, every now and then of course, they're all human.
Bruce wracks his brain for what of the changes to Duke's kit he could be referring to and coming up blank. No matter.
"I did," he states.
"Nuh uh," Duke shakes his head. "We ain't doing this,"
"I don't know what 'this' is."
"Yes you do, you do it to all of us," Duke crosses his arms over his chest with a very pointed look. It's the look Duke usually gives him when Duke thinks Bruce is a moron. "Now admit you were wrong."
"I-"
"Ah! Head like a steel trap fucker," Duke says, tapping his temple. "I know my rights."
Bruce sighs, while he's pretty sure he did tell Duke, there was still every possibility he didn't. And knowing Duke, the kid was probably right. The intensity of this conversation however, speaks of a story, and probably an incident.
"What's the damage?"
"Wayne Tech data center #2"
"Oh," that will be a fun report to read. "Good."
"Yeah, good, now only you get to pay for your dumbassery."
Bruce nods in agreement.
"Noted."
"Scared the shit outta me man," Duke tosses his hands in the air. "Tell me! Next time!"
Ah, there's the real issue. Bruce nods again, making a mental note to send all of the recent changes to Duke after this conversation.
"Will do."
Duke gives him another look, and sighs a little under his breath.
"Finish the sentence," Duke says. "I'm not your mama."
"No," Bruce replies, with a hit of amusement. "I imagine not."
"Funny, now..." Duke waves his hand in Bruce's general direction, as if to prompt him to say his lines over.
"I'm sorry Duke."
"Good," Duke claps his hands together and smiles widely at him. "Have a nice night!"
Duke's a good kid, will be an even better man. Even when they're yelling at each other, Bruce can never be any less than immensely proud of him.
He can't wait to see who he will become.
"You too," he says. Then, because he remembers that Duke's probably hungry after patrol: "There's leftover enchiladas in the fridge."
"Fuck yeah!" Duke punches a hand in the air.
There's a lull in sound in the cave for a moment before Bruce hears talking from a little bit away.
"Oh hey Jason," that's Duke still, probably putting away his gear in his batcave locker.
"What the fuck did you do?" Jason replies in a furtive whisper-yell, still more than audible to Bruce.
"Going to have to give me more than that."
"B just apologized, B never apologizes." Ouch, Bruce thinks. He's not that bad is he?
Is he?
"Who are you?" Jason continues.
"Skill issue," and Bruce can hear the smirk in Duke's voice.
"No, wait, get back here!"

not to complain about the show again but genuinely I think people should be WAY more pissed off that s2 cast an abled actor as a character with Down syndrome - particularly a character whose entire arc and narrative presence is focused on the fact that he has Down syndrome and how Percy has internalized ableism and how Percy unravels that (and also chewing out Annabeth for her ableism).
Like. Tyson has down syndrome. This is a very core part of his character, because like I've said before: the entirety of the first series is centered around and hinges on disabled stories and themes. If you are having an abled actor cast as Tyson you have already failed step one. Cause either you are actively erasing Tyson having Down syndrome or you are having an abled actor try to portray Down syndrome and neither of those things are okay.
