i'm pretty okay with that ship, i guess? i'm pretty okay with almost all ships regarding the main cast! im much more partial to the NXX polycule tho (bc they have so much love for each other aAAAAAAA), but my main main fave is artem/rosa. i absolutely love those fuckers.

it's like artem/rosa -> nxx polycule -> everything else in terms of romance.

romantically, i got nothing for u nonnie, i'm more of a found family type of person. do i think it would be a fun dynamic to explore? yes absolutely bc you got someone like marius who is so suave but also has his dorky moments and artem 'i would like to read a book about it first' wing who in the end wings it (ha!) and just wholly gives himself to the person he's interested in. like, that's a really cute ship right there lmao

maybe it's because of artem's role as mom friend and marius' as baby of the group, but i think a brotherly bond between them would be so good both for their development and also angst. for marius, he gets an older brother but it gets angst in the sense that artem would be 'replacing' giann. for artem it would be not being able to step out of giann's shadow.

or think about the trust they could have with each other, the bonding they would do bc they both had lonely childhoods. marius' childhood was lonely out of protection, artem's was because of people ditching him for their jobs.

like just imagine both of them at an arcade? they didn't go often and know how things work in theory, but they're just fumbling about and having fun and AGGHHH LOVE IS HELD IN THE MARIUS & ARTEM FRIENDSHIP

but, uh, yeah! that's what i think about marius x artem. it's a good ship and i like it!! i just find myself liking the found family version more (as with most things tbh lol)

Bakugou having done some level of emotional work on himself—but still being constipated to heck and gone—while Deku just avoids avoids avoids feels so correct to me. I liked living in that take with a fic recent enough that it feels really grounded in what the directly post-war aftermath would have felt like.

In another time and place, Wade would have gone back to Weasel’s bar and met the love of his life, Vanessa. However, in this life, predicated by a squeaky skateboard wheel, he met Peter instead. ... “Yo mamma so dumb, she thought Tiger Woods was a forest in India.” Wade's arm spasmed, causing his swing to go wide, sending the ball clear out of the course and across the sidewalk. Peter carefully kept his eyes on the score sheet as his companion turned around, expression playfully murderous. He scratched a line with a short pencil. “So, that’s one point against you.” The older man’s face split into a toothy grin. “Oh, it is on, baby boy.”

✦ kam's notes: And to end this fic rec, I bring you the ultimate filmverse!Spideypool fic. It rewrites both DP1 and TASM1 and it entwines both of the film’s canon together. In this fic, Peter doesn’t have his powers yet but he does meet Wade pre-cancer. They fall in love. While Wade goes into the program, Peter becomes Spider-Man. Cue Deadpool being born, Spider-Man trying to stop him, heartaching reunion and all that. Loved this one.

If Edwin wasn’t dead already, he would suspect that Charles is trying to kill him.

“Is there anything you want to do?”, Charles asks one day, apropos of absolutely nothing. “You know, date-wise.” It’s still mind-boggling to Edwin how Charles can talk about it this nonchalantly, when Edwin still has to remind himself twice a week that this is real, that they are doing this. That Charles wants to do it, most of all. “… no?”

Most likely it isn’t the answer Charles is looking for, but the thought of having a preference, of requesting something for them to do on their… their dates, is so alien to Edwin that he is just now realising that it is a possibility. For him, this is enough: sitting in the same space, Charles’ feet on his lap as they both read their respective books, Edwin’s hand lightly resting on his ankle. In fact, it’s more than he ever dared to hope for just weeks ago.

“That’s alright”, Charles reassures him, putting down his novel to look at Edwin properly. His hair is a little mussed from where he has been running his hands through it, and Edwin wants nothing more than to reach out and fix it. “I’ve got ideas. Just thought that I’d check, because in the end, it’s not just my little wish fulfilment exercise, is it?”

He smiles, and it’s gentle somehow, tender. Wish fulfilment, he calls it. Edwin just hopes that Charles knows it’s much more than that to him.

From the outside, it doesn’t look like much. However, Charles seems to be excited when they stop in front of the grey, nondescript building, bouncing on the balls of his feet as he turns to Edwin, so obviously proud of himself. “I asked Crystal for a rec for this”, he explains, “And she said it was brills, so I thought we could give it a try? Because I know that you like these things, and I wanna like what you like, so...yeah?”

It’s adorable, the expression on Charles’ face so open and hopeful, and Edwin wants to say yes, but… “You still haven’t told me where we are”, he tells Charles gently, who starts laughing almost immediately.

“Oh, you’re right”, he concedes and takes Edwin’s hand to pull him to the door, his grip firm and warm and something that Edwin is slowly, ever so slowly getting used to. Because this is something they do now, apparently, on cases and at home and in between moments. Charles will take his hand and not let go of it, and Edwin will die a hundred beautiful, magnificent deaths while hoping it will never end. “It’s an art gallery”, Charles explains and drags him along, phasing through the walls, “and it’s closed on Wednesday nights, so we have it all to ourselves. Good for a third date, yeah?”

It is.

The gallery is small, but cosy somehow, the paintings held in dark wooden frames and interspersed by small descriptions of the artist, their process, any explanation they’d like to offer for their work.

“I don’t know much about art, so if you wanna enlighten me about anything, go ahead”, Charles tells him the moment they stand in the room, their fingers still intertwined. He looks earnest and happy and Edwin loves him so much it threatens to split him apart by the seams, seeps into his very being. “While I am far from an expert, I will do my best”, he promises, grips Charles’ hand tighter, and never wants to let go again.

They stroll through the exhibition, and while there isn’t much Edwin can say, Charles listens to every word of his like he truly wants to hear it. Asks questions, even, if Edwin makes too many references that he doesn’t understand, offers little quips about the paintings if he thinks they’re funny, or just lets Edwin know his opinion. Through all of it, though, there is something vaguely anxious about him still, spelt out clearly in the way his fingers twitch against Edwin’s knuckles, how his gaze refuses to stay fixed on any one thing, in the tension of his muscles when he drags Edwin to the next painting.

It makes little sense, because he isn’t uncomfortable, he isn’t disinterested; Edwin would be able to tell those things with a single look. Instead, it’s almost like he is impatient, only that Edwin has no idea why.

Until they have finished their round, looked at every painting and read every word of explanation, and Charles pulls Edwin over to a corner of the room, pulling back the thick, red curtain there. Edwin had thought it to be for decorative purposes, but it turns out to be a doorway instead, leading to another, smaller room.

Here, there are no paintings on the walls, nothing but a single statue in the middle of the floor, illuminated by warm, golden light. It depicts two people, a man and a woman, embracing tenderly. The man is holding the woman’s face with one hand, the other settled on the curve of her hip, while she has her arms wrapped around his shoulders, and while it is carved from marble, the figures look alive almost, their faces forever etched into smiles that make Edwin’s heart ache in sympathy, in jealousy.

“I wasn’t completely honest before”, Charles says softly at his side, his thumb brushing across Edwin’s knuckles. “It wasn’t just Crystal’s recommendation, I came here to check it out last week. And as glad as I am that you enjoyed everything out there, this is what I actually wanted to show you.”

For a moment, Edwin isn’t sure he understands, but then his eyes drift down to the wall behind the statue and if he was still breathing, it would be impossible all of a sudden.

Orpheus and Eurydice, reunited, it says in bold, red letters.

For a moment, or two, or ten, Edwin doesn’t know what to say, but then he doesn’t have to, because Charles starts speaking instead.

“I read up on it, after we got back from Hell”, he says, and his voice is so soft, so tender, that Edwin feels tears prickling in his eyes. He still hasn’t looked away from the statue, isn’t sure if he could if he tried. “And I know what you meant about hoping we wouldn’t be like them, but I still think it kind of fits, you know? Because I will always come back for you. And I will always turn around to make sure you’re still there. The only difference is that I won’t let anyone take you ever again.”

“Charles, that’s the whole point of the story, though”, Edwin answers shakily, faintly aware that the tears are spilling down his cheeks, that Charles can most definitely see them, hear them.

“I don’t care”, comes the answer, no hesitation, just a hint of a smile in Charles’ voice. “We’ll make a new point then. Because we’re them. We’re Orpheus and Eurydice, reunited.”

And he lets Edwin pull him into a hug, desperate and fierce and tender, and lets him weep against his shoulder until there’s nothing of the sadness left, only love, only hope, only devotion.

They walk back to the agency afterwards, Edwin’s eyes still red-rimmed, and Charles takes them the long way, through the little park close-by that Edwin has never given a second thought until now. There isn’t much conversation, but like always, the silence between them is warm and comfortable, their fingers still intertwined between their bodies. It’s not making his metaphorical heart beat faster any longer, at least not at the moment, instead the touch is grounding Edwin. A reminder that Charles is there, that he will always be there, that he meant it.

“There is another thing I wanted to say”, Charles eventually tells him, and for the first time that evening he isn’t looking back when Edwin glances at him. “I know it was a lot, back there in Hell, and I know we never talked about it, and that is fine. Understandable, really. But I just wanted to thank you for telling me about your feelings. It must have taken so much courage to do it, and I am so grateful that you would trust me like that.”

Charles says it like he is truly thankful, and Edwin’s heart is so full of love for him that it might burst.

“You’re wrong about that”, Edwin replies and stops walking, using their clasped hands to bring Charles to a stop in front of him. summary: you woke up to the feeling of pain in your abdomen, the feeling of a warm rushing flow down there, and a lot of cranky feelings from your hormones beginning to get out of whack. luckily, your girlfriend's got you, she's here to make sure the only thing you'll feel as long as you're with her is nothing but pure comfort, despite being on 'the dot'. word count: 750

last night was a complete and total blur to you after 10 PM, all you remember was falling asleep in gwen's arms and just... kinda blacking out. you do remember it was a wonderful night, but all you could focus on now was the splitting pain in your abdomen as you realized the period flood was coming. you rushed for gwen's bathroom and changed, hoping you didn't leave any stains on her bed. you came back, wobbling and a little sick due to how light-headed you'd get when your flow would be this strong, and fortunately enough, her sheets were still clean when you got up.

you sighed as you sat yourself down on a bean bag in her room, placing a big plushie you brought with you down on your abdomen to try alleviating the pain. it wasn't the most effective tactic, but it had to do for the time being. you tried to sleep again, but the sharp pain in your lower abdomen hurt like hell. trying to sleep through it wasn't an option, and luckily, not for long either; because as soon as the pain came in, gwen woke up. she greeted you a good morning as she yawned, with you muttering a good morning back to her.

gwen looked at you and noticed you looked a lot less... vibrant than last night, a little more sullen and tired, even from having just woken up earlier. "hey, you okay?" she asked you as she climbed out of bed and walked over to you. since it was gwen, you could tell her just what kind of hell you had to endure for the week. "it's shark infested waters right now." you told her as she nodded and headed for her drawers, fetching you her finest-quality pads and tampons for you to choose from. "for you, m'lady." she said as she handed them to you on bended knee.

you giggled at her gallantry as you graciously accepted the feminine products she handed to you. "why, thank you, lady stacy." you thanked her as she smiled up at you and got up. you tucked the products away in your almost empty emergency case and as gwen sat down next to you with a slight smile on her face. "y'need anything else? i have iron supplements if you need any, since, y'know... periods aren't exactly very good for your anemia." she offered to you, which you smiled back at and nodded. "thanks, but don't worry, i'm fine right now. i guess all i need right now is..." you were about to finish as your stomach let out a loud grumble, causing for gwen to nod and extend a hand out to you to help you up. "i've got you, don't worry. breakfast is on the way." she said as you took her hand and stood up.

you and gwen ended up making breakfast together, what with her dad having left earlier that day, you two made it all on your own. though breakfast was great, you still felt the stinging pain and heaviness around your lower abdominal region, and every time you cried out even a little bit in pain, gwen looked over at you with concern and asked you what it was you needed, she'd get it for you. she brought you a hot pack when you told her the cramping was worsening, and before you even told her you needed them, she gave you pain killers right away. "i promise, i'll take care of you as long as you're here with me." she said as she placed her hand over yours and smiled at you.

you smiled back at her as you felt her hand on yours. you leaned close towards her and pecked a kiss on her forehead. "thank you, gwinny..." you thanked her as gwen felt herself blush a ton from your kiss, her cheeks tinting with dark reds and undertones of pink as her smile widened and she giggled involuntarily out of being flustered by your kiss. "no problem, love." she said as she kissed your forehead this time. you felt incredibly lucky to have her with you then and there, to have her understand and know exactly what you may need or want right then and there and just be with you and not assume for you what you need--you felt more and more safe and comfortable with her, when she's like this, maybe shark week'll be way more bearable with her by your side.

PART 3: CLONE PRIMER - ELABORATION ON THE BASICS + WEIRD INSULAR INFO + ME RECAPPING FIC CONCEPT STUFF

J2 EDITION (aka ALMOST LORE) - aka "BLUEJAY"

J2's personality originates from I'm Almost Me Again (He's Almost You), and was the first one to be developed

J2 is devoted, sweet, earnest, hard-working, anxious, desperate to prove himself. He can have a slight acidic streak (his favorite way to rebel is smashing Jace's stuff) but is very preoccupied with being useful.

He reads as slightly younger than Jace b/c he's a clone, he basically just started existing yesterday, and I jokingly refer to him as "25 year old green new hire coded jace" (and also as Born Sexy Yesterday Jace) bc rewatching Freshman Year, I was surprised by how young and inexperienced Jace sounded, and I feel like that detail about his character (that imo makes his situation very pitiable) was really lost in translation in Junior Year. Because he is young to the world and kind of naive, he is very easy to impress and exploit

However, he is still clever and good at magic. Simulacra in dnd don't regain spell slots, but J2 was the first clone to figure out that as a sorcerer, he could convert sorcery points into spell slots, extending his utility to Jace and Porter and basically sparing himself from being dispelled.

J2 is initially very anxious about his purpose / survival. As a clone, he knows he has an expiration date and is desperate to make himself invaluable. The sorcery points solution to the spell slots is part of this.

J2's innate talent is part of what caught Porter's eye. He was the first clone to meet Porter, and Porter (and to some degree, Jace too) laud him as basically like. Jace's Precious Last Gift to Porter. He's often seen as remarkable or special, but its ambiguous whether that specialness is about j2 on his own terms or if he is special as a manifestation of jace's talent.

J2 is the one who is the intermediary between Jace, Porter, and the other Clones. He takes on the most responsibility, and interacts the most with Porter. Spending a lot of time with Porter, they two of them became very close

J2 is the one who loves Porter deeply enough to be very committed to The Plan. He thinks Porter is worthy of ascension, godhood, even if it means Porter will eventually leave him.

J2 had a long, deeply committed affair w/ porter that culminated in them sleeping together and J2 taking devil's honey that kinda rewired his brain and fucked him up. J2 was very much in love with Porter until he found out that Porter killed Jace and brought him back to life, but the devils honey tricks him into forgetting that fear.

The lie he told himself on devil's honey is "I want this. I want everything. Porter deserves everything". It basically rewires his brain to convince himself that he wants whatever happens to him, whether it be good or bad. Even if Porter got back together with jace, he would want that too, because Porter deserves everything, right? Everything he wants. Me and Jace. Just jace. Even if J2 becomes a literal or emotional sacrifice for the betterment orf porter or the cause. Whatever it is, i will be happy

Right after this happens, jace calls porter and agrees to enfold back into the Plan, but is not going to get back together w/ Porter. J2's fate is ambiguous, but emotionally, Porter has pretty much cast him aside with the hope that he will get back together with Jace. Also, b/c Jace is back in the picture, his status as the Last Precious Gift from Jace is in jeopardy and he becomes about as disposable as the other clones (however, usually when we clonepost, J2 is still top of the pecking order just below Jace)

POST-ALMOST: as far as Clone Lore goes - J2 tends to live in this state where he doesn't just worship Porter, but what we call the "Starbreaker Pantheon". He reveres the jaceporter relationship b/c he finds it to be profound and meaningful even if it's not always Good. Jace also occupies a spot in his devotion as like. This figure he is deeply envious of and could never measure up to, but also as someone he knows must be worthy of respect b/c that's who Porter wants, right? He wants what Jaceporter has b/c he sees Porter's love for Jace as like, something true and intimate and something he's only ever gotten a sliver of, treated as a replacement. He wants to be Jace, but he also wants Porter to be happy, so if Porter is happy with Jace he can find a way to worship Jace, too.

I ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION: in Almost, Porter gave J2 the nickname "Bluejay". This is b/c J2's favorite color is blue, which makes him distinct from Jace. He is a very cozy boy who loves cardigans and sweaters and blue nail polish. Yes. Blue Jay is two words. We're gonna breeze past that. J2 fell in love with his new nickname, desperate to see it as a way for Porter to finally recognize him as different from Jace. If you see the clone enjoyers refer to J2 as Bluejay, this is why.

J3 EDITION (aka some Biggest Lie Lore etc)

J2's personality was developed in Almost, and I'd say J3's personality was crystalized in Biggest Lie, but technically J3's personality started as a joke. I said offhand one time in reply to another mutual that in my head, Porter was 100% noncommittally flirting with J3 the entire time he was having this very deep and torrid love affair with J2, and J3 sort of. Became the our beloved little slut as a result of that

J3 is flirtatious, thrillseeking, playful, manipulative, charming, easily bored, fatalistic / borderline parasuicidal, and deeply alientated from his sense of personhood. J2 spent a long time wishing to be loved by Porter on his own terms, as his own person, before finally succumbing. However, J3 is happy (well, convinced himself he happy) to be treated as Jace's cypher.

J3 is often treated as the Most Disposable of the clones. J2 is the intermediary and the Precious Gift. J3 is usually left with grunt work, and anything dangerous is usually foisted upon him to spare J2. He is the one who goes with Porter to cast enlarge-reduce in the woods, and he is the one that used to be spellcaster support for Porter if they ever needed to go anywhere dangerous.

J3 being treated as disposable is why he has no sense of identity or a sense of self preservation, unlike J2. Porter never spends time outside of necessity (until they start screwing. we'll get to that), so nobody has ever really bothered to get to know J3 besides the other clones. J2 is the one that Porter treasures, so J3 views himself as the shield for j3, the disposable one, the one who is likely first to die.

Because of this, he is a thrillseeker, desperate to cram as much living into his short half-life as possible (this includes trying to fuck anyone and everyone in elmville). The experiences do not have to be positive, he wants everything as long as its exciting.

During Almost, J3 and Porter were casually flirting. J3 would die before admitting it, but spending time with Porter was his favorite part of the day. Post Almost, when Jace got folded back into the plan but was not back together with porter, that's when Porter started hooking up with J3. With J3 perfectly willing to let Porter project all his want for jace and frustration at jace onto him because hey, he's getting the porter hookup and not jace, right?

J3 always threads this tenuous line of actively seeking out experiences while also passively being the recipient of other people's fantasies. unlike J2, he embraces being a jace cypher for Porter because that's how he gets porter at his most heightened. J3 often refuses to articulate what he wants, instead letting people do whatever they want to him. He is terrified of being seen as needy, terrified of being rejected for who he is.

At his best he is charismatic and charming, but at his worst he can be dramatic, whiny, desperate for enrichment, actively manipulative and cruel. His best quality and greatest flaw that he inherited from jace and took to the extreme is that he is generous and egoless; as much as he desires to be the center of attention, as much as he can push and push, at the end of the day, he gives people exactly what they need from him at his own expense

J3 rejects the intimacy with Porter that J2 seeks out and can never really achieve because he always falls short of being Jace. J3 convinces himself that he got the best deal out of anyone b/c he doesn't have to deal with the mess of attachment and heartbreak. However, deep down he is deeply jealous of J2 and Jace.

Post-Biggest Lie: Jace and Porter get back together in IYWD, in which Porter drops the clones, including J3. However, in cloneposting, sometimes the clones still have like a weird undefined thing with Porter and Jace for the sake of us having a fun time and fucking around.

BONUS LORE: Not technically canon to Biggest Lie, but J3 is closest to J4 out of everyone in Jaceporter + the clones dynamic. Because J2 is the precious favorite, J3 n J4 developed a weird allyship because they were the matching spares. They are kinda primed to be each other's biggest supporters and biggest weaknesses tbh. J3 provides J4 a spot of actual levity and pleasure in a half-life she otherwise considers to be miserable. J4 recognizes J3's personhood, gives voice to injustices he faces, and likes him for who he is and not who he pretends to me. They are best friends. They flirt. Sometimes they're in love, but like. we'll get to that

J4 EDITION - (aka Electra / Ellie)

J4 doesn't have as much of a... hefty source for characterization. i really hesitate to call things i write a primary source b/c i don't like to claim ownership over the clones it feels weird and wrong for something that is supposed to be fun and is already fanfiction. But i will say the things i write are. Substantial sources if you want clone context bc they're hefty projects lol.

J4 does not have a Porter-centric fic. This may change in the future but, the reason for this is b/c she is the only clone that hates Porter so subjecting her to that is. A much more convoluted task. Closest thing she has is Stay / Leave which is j3/j4 which we sometimes call LJ3 (and the two fics written by iaus!!!! which are fan fucking tastic!)

J4's personality is the result of. Looking at J2 n J3 and going. Ok what is the third point in a data set. If J2 worships Porter, the antithesis is someone who hates Porter, right? (and J3 is a middle ground)

J4 is marginally more loose in her characterization, but I would say she is... Rageful, bitter, driven, rebellious, ruthless, and steadfast in her beliefs, whether they are good or bad. She feels trapped by her circumstances, unlike J2 who has learned to love his gilded cage, and J3 who has accepted his fate and is basically trying to fuck hard until he dies in an explosion. She is determined to carve out her own path and define her own personhood, what we jokingly refer to as her "escaping the narrative"

Unlike J3 who has no problem being a cypher for jace and has completely neglected his own personhood, and J2 who desperately tried to get porter to recognize him for the person he was before succumbing and submitting, willing to be whatever The Plan and Porter needed of him, occupying this weird middle ground, J4 wants nothing to do with jace. She is determined to be her own person. She is disgusted by the limitations placed on her by being "of jace"

You're probably wondering why J4 is a girl. This was a me-headcanon that became fairly mass accepted, but I have joked that J4 is the only clone to achieve transgenderism. I do use she/her pronouns predominantly for J4, but it's mainly out of habit, i also am not super precious about it, nor do i really care what anyone else does with her. I don't necessarily see being a binary trans girl as the only way to interpret her character, but J4 being a girl it is the common way she is perceived at this point this deep into clone lore. As someone who also has a lot of gender feelings, i do see the need to define oneself and create your own identity to be very transgender tho, so i do think it's fitting

More of a fandom joke thing, J4 loves knives. We love when she gets stabby. There are also a lot of jokes abt her stealing jace's credit cards, his SSN, fantasizing abt setting his house on fire

She is preoccupied with the ways in which she might be similar to Porter because she views him as the embodiment of everything she hates, but she is the clone most like him. She is afraid of her own capacity for rage, her instincts for violence, for control, to own, to take, to posses, to dominate. She wants to fight to liberate, for what's right, but she worries her fight is just to be the person holding the boot at someone's throat rather than the person under the boot.

She worries her impotence and rebellion makes her unpalatable and unlovable. Because she can't really make any meaningful change in their circumstances, wouldn't it just be easier to submit? She worries she's denying herself pleasure for nothing. Even if she doesn't have a choice, wouldn't it easier to be submit and be happy, rather than fight and be miserable?

We also joke about Bad Timeline J4, who is equally as cruel and ruthless, but is devoted to Porter. There's no real content abt her, but its just a make believe scenario where she did finally stop fighting and agree to love Porter, in which she is the one most possessive of him, determined to be his attack dog right hand.

As articulated brilliantly by bambi, Jace, j3, and j2 are pretty archetypal charisma casters in that they are charming and make themselves easy to love. J4 wields her personality like a sledgehammer, but that is charisma, too. Her presence is always felt

She was originally very prideful. Determined to be different. Determined to be the one to make it out. Her pride covers up for a deep self hatred, especially as the expiration date of the clones ticks nearer and nearer, and she views herself to be a failure.

Her only soft spots are for the other clones, but especially J3. She pities J2, essentially viewing him as brainwashed into accepting their lot on life, but because of that pity, she does harbor some kindness and tenderness for him because of that. But J3? J4 bets on losing dogs, and she loves her losing dog so much and she would never admit it, but everyone can see it. If it wasn't for him, she probably would have ditched this whole situation.

This is an Esme Special aka @neerdowellnarrator, but J4 b/c she wants to make a point about not being Jase does choose her own name. J4's chosen name is Electra b/c of the greek myth comparisons and her basically Escaping A The Cycle. She goes by "Ellie" for short. J3 sometimes calls her El / Elle. We still refer to her as J4 sometimes for clarity's sake. Whatever stage she is in when it comes to even having a name is very dependent on whoever is depicting her anyway.

PART 4: Wait, so are J3 and J4... In love?

Yeah. it's like a whole Thing. This is a pretty recent development. I'll save it for the doc. To be elaborated on soon, I promise. It's called LJ3, i have a whole tag for it if it grips you.

J2Porter Vegas Wedding Roleplay Weekend: a Jess Special! Based on this post! Elaborated on here! Jess aka @hauntedwizardmoment has more thoughts here! But I have a whole tag dedicated to it. Gist is that even after Jace n Porter get back together, Porter still devotes special days to the clones to give them Porter Time, and J2's day is an entire weekend where they booked a hotel in Bastion City. And during that time, they're basically roleplaying "What if we got spontaneous hitched in vegas" where Porter books out the honeymoon sweet, and J2 wears a tacky wedding dress, and the whole weekend is just devoted to treating J2. I'm not kidding, if i think too hard abt j2porter vegas roleplay weekend, I might cry.

Goodboy ex tradcath jace is the jace backstory for IYWD btw. He's the child of one sol worshiping parent and one galicaean worshiping parent and he is NOT ok). J4 is constantly name dropping obscure alt bands that play tuesday night in the parking lot of the black pit and only watches experimental indie horror movies and foreign war films shot from the perspective of pigeon (said w so much love, that concept fucks)

The Clones are Dykes: This one is old as fuck. I made a joke ages ago abt Dyke!Jace b/c I think Dykefag!Jace / Zara is a cute ship. So if Jace is a dyke, then the clones must also be Dykes. I drew art of them once. Digging up the dyke clones posts would be a trip and they're not really indicative of their current personalities, but if you see us joking about. J2 escaping to another timeline where he is a dyke and in a committed relationship with Zara or Lucilla, that is where that comes from

"Born to Love Porter Cliffbreaker, forced to do weird menial tasks for Jaceprime": another old ass thing i said as a joke before the clones had personalities. But it does have a lot to do with j4's preoccupation w/ free will. And Jace also being remade to love porter. Life is hard when you're born to love someone and you're forced to grade papers instead! It ain't much but it's a half-life! At the same time, me positing the clones all had potential to fall in love with Porter is kinda what brought us here, so.

There's a whole host of greek myth and hadestown references we're always dragging out. Cassankarna is Persephades, Jaceporter is Orphydice. Jaceporter is Persephades, J2 is Eurydice. Jaceporter is Persephades, LJ3 is Orphydice. J2 is Iphigenia, J3 is Helen, J4 is Electra / Cassandra. J2 is also Psyche.

Putting the Clones in Game changer: A comedy au in which the Clones are improv comedians on Dropout.tv. But also it's about LJ3 being a little in love and unable to escape the narrative. Esme made Elliego n J3go which i love (aka bingo cards). Loosely based on the last time i drew Jaceporter on game changer as well

Hi Bee! You seem to read a lot of books, and I've been trying to get back into reading books rather than fanfiction as of late (which is going good atm). I used to read a lot of actual books when I was younger, but once I was a pre teen I'd discovered fic and had trouble reading actual books unless I had to for school lol. Anyway, my question is do you have any book recs? While for right now, it is going well, I only have two books I'm planning on reading after I finish the two I'm reading simultaneously right now. So it'd be nice to have some more for once I finish those as well. :D

Another reason for my wanting to get back into reading actual types of books is studying a more formal written literature to improve my writing, and to observe what author's do with their writing style that I'd want to incorporate in my own writing. If you have any tips for studying/observing, I'd also love some of those.

While this doesn't really have to do with the whole book thing, I just wanna say that you definitely inspired me to want to write more. Most of your titles always sound so cool and make me wanna read anything of yours solely based off them, and your plot, descriptiveness, metaphors, Greek mythology references, and so many other little things about it make it so enjoyable to read and something I'd strive to be within my own writing. A little silly, I know, considering it's MCYT fic, but your writing is genuinely so cool.

this is so kind thank you!! it seriously makes me so happy anytime someone tells me my silly fic writing inspired them to start/improve their own writing. writing is such a beautiful art but it's also a skill you have to put so much time into. you're off to an amazing start already with recognizing that you have to read published novels to improve your writing. it seriously helps so much.

I can definitely give you some recs! I'll put them under a read more, but since you asked for tips when reading novels:

try to pay attention to things you like and don't like about the author's writing style. like if you're reading a novel and there's a line of description that's particularly gorgeous or sets a scene super well, consider annotating the book with a pen or highlighter or if you don't own the book itself, copy down the line/paragraph somewhere (notebook, notes app, smth like that) to refer back to later. or if you find yourself super immersed in a conversation going on between two characters, take a step back to notice how the author writes out the conversation. is there a lot of physical description of what the characters are doing while they speak that lets you picture th escene easily? or is the dialogue rapid fire back and forth which forces you to just be sucked into it? what about it do you like?

or, on the contrary, if you find yourself struggling to enjoy a book try to notice what about the writing style is pulling you away. is there too much flowery description that makes you want to skip ahead? is there too much exposition so you feel like you're just getting an infodump instead of a narrative? take stock of what your own thoughts are as you read and then try to figure out why that is.

also, a tip I heard once is that you can always try to emulate a specific style. if you want to improve your writing and you just read a book with a writing style you really want, maybe try and write a random scene in that same style. it doesn't have to be anything original or even good, no one ever has to see it, it can just be for your own practice. just keep the book beside you and try to pick out what makes the writing style distinct, and try to emulate that. not saying you have to adopt that style, but just trying out a new style can give you some variation to help you develop/improve your own.

now you didn't specify what kinds of books you like to read so I'm going to just throw in a few from a few different genres I've read. most of these are books I've recced here on my blog before but they're all a bit scattered so I'll rec them again. now, I mostly read fantasy or historical fiction because I just like those genres but I'll try to include some variety here

Genre: Fantasy (Typical Medieval)

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

one of my all time favorite novels. incredibly expansive fantasy worldbuilding that draws from a variety of cultures that's not exclusive to just europe. of course there's one country that's fantasy england, but you also have countries that take inspiration from asia, africa, and the middle east. you follow several characters that vary in age, race, gender, sexuality, etc. and they're all wonderfully fleshed out and fascinating. the story itself is also just fantastic and the world really swallows you whole. there's also a prequel to this called A Day of Fallen Night that I actually think I liked a bit more than Priory, but I'd recommend reading Priory first because it's easier to get into the world through that one whereas ADOFN is a bit more dense.

Genre: Fantasy (Apocalyptic? Sci fi? Kind of?)

The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin

similar to priory, the fifth season is a masterclass in worldbuilding and creating interesting worlds. that's where the similarities end though. technically speaking The Fifth Season is a fantasy and not a sci fi, although it feels more like sci fi to me tonally. The Fifth Season explores a world that is so regularly tormented by apocalyptic natural disasters that everything is formed around survival and it makes for such an interesting culture. the story also does an incredibly interesting and unique thing with POV that I rarely see in novels so that's also super fascinating to dig into for writing study. currently reading the sequel to this one and I love it so far.

Genre: Historical Fiction

Hild by Nicola Griffith

alright if you really wanna stretch some writing/reading muscles this is definitely a book you can try out. but be warned, it is dense. I'm a fairly fast reader and it took me so much longer to read this than I was expecting just because of how dense the writing is. this story takes place in 7th century Anglo-Saxon Britain so there's a lot of Old English words thrown in, and while there's a glossary at the back it doesn't cover everything. this is a really interesting novel though that dives deep into the time period and the specific life of one girl as she grows up at the heart of the political machinations of the Anglo-Saxon kings. really great if you're like me and think learning a lot about what life was like in this time period is super fun, but I could see it being a drag for people not super into history like that. I still think it's a really good story though on its own, especially with how the main character is characterized as she grows up, and how it represents all the politics going on at this time

Genre: Satire/Dystopian Fiction

Chain Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah

I'm including this because I'm trying to give you a bit of genre variety. If you want to read an adult dystopian book for our modern day this is definitely an excellent one to pick up. warning, it's incredibly effective as a dystopian novel because all I felt was dread and fear after finishing it. it takes place in the near future where the prison industrial complex has been combined with the entertainment industry. prisoners who are serving a sentence of either 25+ years or life are given the option to compete in televised gladiator style death matches. if they survive 3 years, they'll be released. the novel is incredibly on the nose and not subtle whatsoever about it's criticisms of capitalism and racism, especially the racism that the prison industrial complex is built on. the horrifying thing about reading it is how easily I could see this becoming a reality, especially the brand sponsorships. it made me want to laugh and cry at the same time because of how ridiculous but realistic it was.

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

And here we have my all time favorite novel. this novel is a great example of unreliable narrator and how to tell a story two different ways. if you don't know the twist for this already, go into it blind, I promise it'll be more fun that way. the premise of the story seems simple—the morning of their 5th anniversary, a man's wife goes missing and the story follows his attempts to find her. but it gets way messier than that. this novel is an excellent example of how to characterize horrible people and still make them enjoyable to read about. also, if you're like me and enjoy media about two shitty people having an unhealthy and fucked up relationship, you'll adore this.

Fic rec Friday - Steve Rogers edition!

In honor of @dc-marvel-crossovers Super Week, a couple of my favorite Cap-centric super-duper-rare-pair crossovers:

Move Slow, Forge Ahead by @thepartyresponsible - fresh-from-the-ice Steve meets Dick Grayson. Such a good character study of him and his mental state at this (wildly under-explored) moment of canon; Dick’s sunshine-and-steel is the perfect counterpoint to everything Steve is going through.

Steve’s spent his whole life trying to fight the part of the world that’s bad. Bucky was always trying to save what was good. If Steve learned a single damn thing from the war, it’s that there’s nothing brave or strong or redemptive about violence. Heroism is saving something. Everything else is just flash and blood and tickertape.

Won’t You Stay Awhile? (I’m Staring At a Ghost) by @daddyswickedqueen - Jason Todd being an absolute little shit is one of my favorite things. This is peak Little Shit Jason. Love the subtleties of both characterizations here, especially the attention to detail in the things Steve notices about him first.

“Gonna buy me a drink, old man?” A hint of wickedness comes into his smile and he leans in closer, brushing their shoulders together again. “Want me to call you Daddy?”

Steve has to swallow before he can answer. “Nope. Not my style.”

The kid’s head tips, just a little, and suddenly those green eyes are so focused and intense that Steve finds himself straightening, squaring his shoulders against them, as if this kid could see into the core of him.

A faint smirk crosses the kid’s lips and he turns back to the tv, takes a sip of his drink, then says, “Wanna call me Daddy?”

No Fairytale Bliss by @sammialex - look, am I cheating by including a remix of the previous fic on this list? Possibly. Do I care? Not at all. It’s just too good. Jason’s POV, this time, with fantastic character nuances.

The loud bump of music vibrated through the cracked, well worn leather of the bar seat. Jason played with the condensation on his beer glass, idly drawing little HA HA HAs until he noticed what his fingers were doing and snatched them away.

Now, i just wanna preface this with: I love many of my fics so I went ahead and tried to pick different ones from another time I think I did this. Also, I apologize (not really) for the way I present some of these. XD

Do you want an Amanda POV fic about her and Daniel having a grand time together (she rails him at one point) after Lucille takes Sam for the weekend? Then Baby, what we have is gold is for you!

How about a Chozen POV fic where, you guessed it, he rails Daniel to within an inch of his life? Yes, I'm talking about Under the cherry blossoms. XD (I'm just saying, it has a sequel too.)

Okay, okay, I'll stop presenting them like a prize on a game show. (I'm lying.)

This next fic is a newer one I posted but that I am quite happy with. It's the sequel to a certain LaKreese fic (Kiss with a fist) and is...Dog days are over! Daniel once again gets railed in this one. I'm starting to notice a theme going on with these favs but, hey, that's the last one, I promise.

One of my favorites that I'm still working on right now is Let me get that for you, which is basically a fic exploring Daniel's life after the third movie (something I do love doing) and has the fun bonus of Johnny apologizing and Daniel now having the Cobras (annoyingly) hanging around. Of course, unfortunately for Daniel, the Cobras aren't the only ones who start creeping back into his life. It is Eventual Lawrusso because my brain went "yes, I love them together, look at them, they're so annoying, I love them." (I did not start-out writing it as Lawrusso but, hey, shit happens in a WIP lol.)

Also, @cookietastic has made some absolutely amazing art for this fic and just in general is an incredibly talented artist. Frankly, without this lovely piece to give me brain worms, this fic might not have existed. 💜

The other favorite that I've been working on is You octopi my heart, which is a MerCobras fic with Lawrusso. Basically, the events of the first movie went the same except it was Mike, Snake, and Dennis (who weren't in Cobra Kai, just assholes) instead of the Cobras bullying Daniel. The Cobras were busy being mermen and not going to a real school. The events of the second movie still happened, although I did write a Before the Beginning thing that gives a bit more of an ending (?) to those events. Anyway, Daniel discovers mermen are real in this fic and it leads to some Shenanigans that have made some of you go, "Oh, god, this Daniel wouldn't survive in a horror movie." XD He's fine, though! No, really, I actually mean it this time lol. For now
