okay so. jack! jack. what a collection of guys. the overlap between jack and the beanstalk and jack the giant killer, though. that sure is something! sometimes king arthur is there, which always takes me by surprise.

this. specifically. is an idea I've been kicking around. jack and the beanstalk is not a story I've ever enjoyed, as a kid it was probably my least favorite to read. as an adult, I was INTENSELY fascinated by reading j.g. ballard's the drowned giant. I think about it frequently, and somewhere during a re read of it, I ended up revisiting jack.

combining different versions of jack into one character is not a new concept, but it IS a fun one! the version I've been assembling together plays less with the fun elements of a jack story (and adjacent folklore stories), and focuses more on the potential for tragic elements with the addition of the usual grim and jagged narrative edges that I personally enjoy.

jack with the backstory of the devil and the three golden hairs, only jack doesn't find love, he's TIRED, all he wants to do is go home, but there isn't a home to go back to. what is the point of being born lucky if this is what it gets you? jack the giant killer, only he doesn't want to kill giants, jack who saw a body of a giant when he was a small child and cannot bring himself to do as a king commands. jack, who climbs up the beanstalk and stops halfway to look down. etc.

to go back to the drowned giant real quick, both to set the tone about jack seeing the body of a giant as a youth, and also because I've been haunted and obsessed with this excerpt of it ever since I read it:

i dont really have anything else, thats the whole idea. giyuu cant speak/can only speak in whispers

i was reading a fic that said somethn about him 'a cry silenced by a broken voice' and it reminded me of one scene from my Clan au: Shit Marriage path where giyuu has a breakdown and wrecks his shit screaming it out in the middle of nowhere/grasslands away from the compound, in that au he broke something & convinced shizu to 'heal' it to where he couldnt speak so he had an excuse Not To Talk To People

was just thinking of a more canon-adjacent au where he does sonething similar, screaming himself to silence after sabito's death in a twisted mirror of tsutako's death when he had to stay silent or he'd die too- or developing a speech disorder Because of that event with his sister where its a psychological thing, or he already had it as a kid but the event exacerbated it to an extreme-

giyuu's not a very talkative person, but to take it away entirely. try to talk with him & hes just dead silent. sanemi trying to get a rise or reaction from him and get nothing but an impossible-to-make-out whisper that makes him scoff and drop it. shinobu trying to communicate with him after she realizes he doesnt verbally respond bc he literally Cant, if he'd even put in the effort to do so for someone he's gonna keep at arm's length anyway. paired with the popular Kyojuro Cant Hear Shit hc how they'd interact, kyojuro trying to befriend him despite the lack of response, maybe they both know sign language and hes the only one giyuu actually puts effort into talking with- or kyojuro teaching giyuu sign language bc he never bothered to learn after final selection/never learned bc he always had someone else to translate for him (tsutako/sakonji/sabito). (/shinobu knowing or learning sign language, speaking with giyuu that way or teaching him as well- her and kyo being the only two hes let any sort of guard down for)

bonding with the kamados being very different, tanjiro not realizing giyuu doesnt speak at first and trying to befriend him/get in his good graces (they already were, and doing all that just made him feel soft that tanjiro cares so much abt him & his opinion of them<3)- having a much easier time deciphering giyuu's thoughts n shit than anyone else given his super feelings sniffer

You know that time in the comics when the Doctor is so depressed, he shuts off the lights, turns on an interrogation spotlight, locks himself in the console room, and argues with a bunch of judgmental shadow-figures resembling his past incarnations?

And all the TARDIS' lights go out and her interior becomes a maze to keep his companions out of the console room, all from her psychic connection with the Doctor (“moodbleed”)?

And his companions are left wandering in circles for two days as the air goes “stale,” not knowing where he is but thinking the worst, while he hallucinates in a dark room?

...because I'm thinking again about the times this definitely happened when he was with the Ponds.

wait. wait. wait. ive been staring at ur latest comic for awhile now and i think i've noticed something about the colors? which are amazing, first of all- just gotta get that out there cuz i adore that soft pink and deep green combo

but i just realized that throughout most of the comic u use both in equal parts it seems. to separate bg + fg and such, to highlight characters/objects, etc.

but then when vash gets back to their room, all the walls are that dark green. and, bit by bit, the pink totally falls off. by the end, it's nothing but constant dark green as vash starts to cry

but then wolfwood slams in and he's backed by that soft pink. and suddenly the comic is nothing BUT pink. soft lines and whites and gentle pink tones EVERYWHERE to just. SO tastefully highlight the little details.

LIKE. WAS THIS INTENTIONAL?! i almost wanna guess that it wasn't since all those green panels w vash crying are all closeups focused on his expression so it makes sense to just put the simple green behind it and all attention on him so the pink just isn't Needed

BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE EFFECT IS SO MASTERFUL THAT I WANNA BELIEVE IT WAS ABSOLUTELY INTENTIONAL

HEHE..... first of all, thank you for looking at my comic so closely, THAT'S LIKE... REALLY SWEET and a huge compliment to hear, thank u thank u

and yes, it was intentional, especially more towards the end!!! in general, the colors are meant to serve as a mood indicator, so a balance of them in a scene would just mean a neutral "okay-ness" and have a functional serve to separate background / foreground / subject matter... deep green signifies introspection or incoming sadness (especially on pg5 when vash cries), and pink signifies wolfwood, which, not an emotion but he is happiness, someone that helps vash lose his doubts in a matter of seconds -- which is why those last few pages are just pink white and lines, and the panels are gone for the majority of it. i wanted to show their unity and togetherness!

while vash still has his issues of just Not saying anything about his loneliness, his feelings are alleviated temporarily with wolfwood's presence and he's just grateful that his paranoia didn't become true, and that wolfwood is genuine, true to his word, when he means he'll be following vash/staying with him. even though it's mission-bound, vash would probably still feel guiltily comforted by that fact.

I'M GLAD IT WAS PARTICULARLY EFFECTIVE IN THIS COMIC because i definitely could've pushed it more... i figured it was a minor thing that not a lot of ppl would care for, but more ppl enjoyed it and noticed the colors than i thought, so i'm glad it worked out!!!

i have this super goofy drabble i wrote ages ago where aokaga (as bfs) have a dumb staring contest and kagz only wins by taking his shirt off (is aomine REALLY losing there tho? no exactly. use your brain.) but i wanted to rewrite it as the pre-established stuff i've been writing on ao3

but i actually dont think they could stare at each other THAT LONG while still repressing their feelings. like kagami's glaring, then aomine's smiling (bc he thinks he's about to win), then kagami notices aomine thinks he's about to win so he sits back in his seat with ultra confidence, then aomine gets close to folding but refuses to tap out so he stares in an extra derogatory manner, which kagami actually can't get enough of and he blushes, but then [et cetera]

so i THINKKKKK im gonna write that as a potential backdrop for their confession bc ive been stuck on it and honestly it HAS to be a stupid scenario for it to work for them specifically

the thing is kagami will stare off ANYONE, he isn't afraid of jack SHIT happening. he's stared off midorima before he knew midorima was such an unserious extremely serious geek (collateral damage, sorry mido), he's stared down hanamiya, he's stared down haizaki, he's stared down akashi, he was solo when he was in america in the scary streetball games with real betting and i dont need to see it to know he wouldve had to put on a tough guy act there too. he's also stared down aomine before the first inter high, completely unfazed by his reputation. kagami is just not backing down from that

aomine stares people down too and isn't afraid to fight, so he's pretty tough as well, but like? genuine stare-off without the complication of unresolved romantic/sexual tension? i still think kagami's winning. or he goes until he gets bored and or distracted.

We’ve been talking about how you can use colours, shapes and lines to make art (which also links with the shapes we’ve been learning about in maths) and we also discussed how this artist didn’t cover all of the painting with colour, he left some of it white which made the other colours stand out

I think they’re super cute, the kids absolutely loved making them, and they’re also big A3 paintings that I’m super excited to display somewhere in the school!!

genuinely dont know if i was just never active enough in the les mis fandom (as in. interacting with people and not just posting my very cool cosplay pics and silly little fics and poems) or if the les mis fandom is just so much more chill than the marauders one. Lowkey makes me miss the chill times. Hearing all the drama and being involved in it is awful, hearing it all and not being involved in it but not managing to like. find a solution for it is also awful, and im just very frustrated about it all.
