My Top Ten JayDick Fics

So I’ve always wanted to do a rec list to give people a good starting point for jaydick fics. I know from personal experience that a good fic is hard to find, especially where jaydick is concerned. I won’t be posting any of my fics on here, but in case anyone’s curious my ao3 is Sam4265. A personal favorite of mine is Red Hood Wears Magnums, which is a short one if anyone wants to read it.

So here are my top 10 favorite jaydick fics, in no particular order, because I have a terrible time making decisions.

Control(led) Issues by strikeyourcolors All entries rated E - 75,586 words total - 10 works - Incomplete Series This is a really good series. Tragic, and the relationship is rough, but it’s a good one. The earlier entries are mostly sex, but the later ones have some very interesting and tragic plot.

Another Perfect Catastrophe by Mikimoo and Pentapus E - 20,164 words This is just absolutely spectacular, and I’ve read it several times. “Dick goes undercover as himself in order to catch a gang of international thieves. Jason reluctantly tags along as his long suffering bodyguard. During the ensuing mayhem they get to know each other again and build a few bridges.”

I Think I Wanna Marry You by dinolaur T - 3,968 words Just a cute short one that I always reread when I see it. Jason and Dick get Vegas married. “A night out for drinks and a certain Bruno Mars song land Dick and Jason in an interesting predicament. Guess it’s as good a time as any to come out to the family.”

Don’t Forget the Milk by byeke G - 1,230 So gut-wrenching and heartwarming at the same time, ugh. “After a fight Jason decides to pack up his things, and a few of Dick's things too, and leave. Dick catches him in the act of packing up and leaving without saying anything. Jason jumps to defend himself and before he can stop himself, he blurts out ‘We're out of milk.’”

This Is Not In My Job Description by Chrystie and kate882 T - 9,720 words I love a good Nurse!Jason fic, which this, of course, is. “‘I’m not even obligated to help you, I hope you know that. I work with kids not superheros,’ Jason muttered as he hauled Nightwing up to his feet and wrapped an arm around him to start half dragging him towards his own apartment, trying to apply pressure to the wound to slow down the bleeding as they walked. Nightwing, who appeared to be struggling to hold his head up, looked like he was assessing Jason for all Jason could tell with the mask on. ‘Are all angels as hot and grumpy as you?’ So maybe he wasn’t lucid enough for any assessing.”

We Will Wear Our Masks Again Out After Dark by IMightwing E - 20,647 words This is a great fic written for the 2017 Reverse Bang. “Dick paused and looked straight at Jason. ‘I want you to be Batman until I’m healed.’ ‘No,’ Jason said. No way in hell, he wanted to say, but the quicker he got this over with, the better.”

Throw Me in the Water (Don't Think About the Splash I Will Create) by overratedantihero T - 1,359 words This is a new short fic, but I absolutely love it. It’s a merman!Dick fic with a really great ending. “’You can’t keep him,’ Bruce said, crossing his arms to emphasize the finality of his statement. But Jason always did have a habit of taking what he wanted.”

Take the Heat Out of Me by quipquipquip E - 81,034 words This is sort of the classic jaydick fic. I feel like it’s a right of passage for jaydick fans to read this one. It’s really very good. “Lost Days!Jason trolls Officer Grayson!Dick in Blüdhaven. Dick counter-trolls with the power of love. (It's super effective.)”

Do What You Like (Just Don’t Do It Here) by DevilDoll T - 1,334 words Another short fic, but it just melts my heart in every way, and has a nice side of Bruce/Selina. “’Dick and Jason are having sex.’”

The Weight of a Choice by Skalidra T - 5,053 words This one is just so great, Jason’s character in this is amazingly perfect. “In the middle of a fight, a building collapses on top of Dick and Jason. They're trapped, Dick might be injured, and Jason definitely is. All they can do is wait to be rescued, but there's just one problem. Jason's the one holding the rubble up, and his strength isn't going to last for long.”

This fic isn’t part of the official rec list because the main pairing is superbat, but it has a really fantastic and lengthy jaydick side plot. The jaydick starts in the second fic, and there’s also some Tim/Kon in the later fics. It’s an exceptionally well written series for one so long, and it’s very dramatic and enthralling. I read the whole thing one after the other because I practically couldn’t put them down.

Thief!Dick Verse by JayDick_Hell

Dick Grayson’s life ended the night he witnessed his parents fall in the Big Top. He raised himself on the streets and learned to hone his various talents to grow into the talented and notorious thief known as Robin. One day, he finds himself in Blüdhaven, sizing up a place when he’s interrupted by the Red Hood.

Jason Todd finally branched out from the shadow of the Bat, ready to be his own hero. He just decided ‘Haven would be his Gotham when he came across a handsome stranger clearly up to no good. Naturally, he had to put a stop to the criminal. He never expected to get addicted to the wily thief.

For what it’s worth: So good. Very cute series, I love it so much.

Bite Me to the Bone by elwon

After six months walking around with a beating heart, Dick wishes he could use the speed, strength and abilities he’s used to. Because he’s still a soulless demon deep down. Being able to walk in the daylight and eat pizza do not make up for this utter humiliation and punishment. But then the Red Hood appears, and things start to look up.

For what it’s worth: So good. Just. amazingly fantastic. Side note on this one: I actually told my mom how obsessed I was with this fic within 10 minutes of finishing it.

Behind every successful man, there is a woman… No, no it’s not! It’s 2016 for God’s sake. You can’t assume anybody’s gender.It must change to 'Behind every successful husband, there is a wife.’ Cause wife is just a title, not a gender, and, yeah, let admit it, there are a wife and husband in every relationship.Things are the same, just a lot stranger when you’re a powerful mob boss, and your other half is a hot ass super-hero.

For what it’s worth: I think the coolest way to approach their relationship is when you’re looking at Jason being a crime lord vs Dick being a vigilante and this fic does it perfectly.

For his best friend’s wedding, Dick’s more than willing to double as best man and co-wedding planner, even if it means going back to the city he’s been avoiding for years on end. Then he meets the other best man and co-wedding planner and falling so hard and so fast was so not part of the plan.

For what it’s worth: This had me cackling. Dick sees a hot guy, has to work with hot guy for best friends wedding. Oh and, apparently he knows this hot guy but doesn’t remember and said guy sure does remember him? Well then, let the awkwardness ensue.

Dick thought it was just a dream, a weird dream but apparently it wasn’t. He found himself stuck in a reality where he wasn’t dating Jason Todd. Instead, he was dating some girl he didn’t know.

And he hated the fact.

For what it’s worth: I always love the fics where either Dick or Jason are transported to another universe where they aren’t dating each other. It’s angst and fluff mixed together but at the same time, amusing because then they always try to get their counterparts to date. Ah, my heart.

For what it’s worth: A theory: Jason will do what Dick asks of him just because of the fact that _Dick is asking him to do him a favor_. He didn’t plan it, but here he is, in the batcave, covering for Dick Grayson… Great.

For what it’s worth: No matter what, high school AUs are one of the best. Especially when it has Jason doing the cellblock tango. This needs to be an animatic. (That may or may not be in the works. i just can’t help myself) But IT’S THE CELLLBLOCK TANGO. Come on people, it’s pure.
