All of Bricksburg was celebrating, they were free. Lord Business had been reformed and now creativity was able to flourish now.

Surely nothing could go wrong, right?

Well things did.....go wrong

Suddenly strange ships came and put strange alien creatures down onto the road in front of our heroes "We are from the Planet Duplo, and we are here to destroy you!"

"Oh man"

The citizens began talking amongst themselves, about the strange beings as Wyldsytle came forward, itching for some action "Well you're going to have to get past us!

Batman got his batrangs out "Specially me!" Unikitty was also ready to fight, getting her angry form out "oh it's on!"

"Yarr!" Metalbeard went forward, smacking poor Vitruvius away possibly to the other side even, the master builders were ready to play rough.

Except for Emmet, who put his arms up to halt the brewing brawl "Woah guys, we don't need to fight anymore! Let me handle this...."

"Emmet, I don't know"

"Trust me"

Brickowski walked slowly toward the aliens, trying not to be threating "Hello Vistors from another world, you are just as special as all of us"

To prove this, the special took red, purple, pink, orange, and yellow bricks and made a giant heart and got close to the aliens to let them get a good look "Friends" He gestured to himself and the others.

This eased the Legos, Emmet turned to look at his friends with a smile, as the middle alien got really close "See? These guys are friendly-"

Without warning, the construction guy, he heart he made, along with part of the road were swallowed whole by the middle Duplo alien causing the easiness turn into rage.

Lucy ran up to monster, in hopes to get it to spit out Emmet but by the time she reached the spot, the alien had been beamed up to the ship

"EMMET!!!

Just like that, everything blurred around Wyldstyle. The builders began fighting the "Invaders", enraged by Emmet's abduction but Lucy just stayed in the spot where Brickowski was stolen.

After the Duplos left, nothing would ever be the same. Especially with Emmet gone.

I can’t believe that I wasted an entire class period typing this out, but hells, it’s a hyper-fixation now.

Anyway, here’s part 1:

I think both Jokerbat and Superbat are cute, however, Jokerbat makes more sense logistically, only because they are villain and hero in that classic ship. Superbat makes less logical sense, but they do make a good team when they need to work together.

So, in order to actually talk about this, We gotta break down the potential categories they could fall under. Starting with Jokerbat, it can fall under a few different, and commonly seen, tropes:

Hero/villain, a tale as old as time and a long beloved trope to many.

Enemies to lovers, ah the long argued and debated trope that is either loved or hated with no in between.

Forbidden love, seen in many forms of media, most commonly romance novels.

Now, getting into the break down of Jokerbat.

As much as I love and support the ship, I feel like it runs into a few problems.

The relationship is built off of the fact that Joker is Batman’s villain, and that they’re a duo that’s been together for years. Although it is a relationship, it’s not necessarily one that can build a romantic bond mostly because it’s been a fight between the two since the beginning of any Batman media. The lego Batman movie seem to be trying to imply that joker really wants to be more than just a villain to Batman, seen as the entire movie it jam packed with innuendo and hints at an intimate—in one way or another—connection between the two. However, that doesn’t necessarily make it a healthy relationship. One thing is for certain: Joker’s romantic, or non romantic feelings towards Batman are very one sided, and are not entirely reciprocated on Batman’s part. The only time Batman has ever really acknowledged any type of relationship that is more than a hero/villain one is in the lego Batman movie when everything is going to hell and back. During that scene, Batman confesses to Joker—or “J-bird” as he so lovingly put it— that he also has feelings for him and begs for his help, essentially saving their relationship by saving the city. The two have to reconnect in order to save Gotham in an oddly cute scene where it looks as if the two are about to kiss, but that’s disregarding why Joker was planning to destroy Gotham in the first place. Joker wanted to prove he was truly Batman’s greatest enemy.

Their relationship is not built off of trust, but the fact that they are made to be enemies. A romantic relationship could be formed, but it would not be healthy. They’ve been fighting for years, so who’s to say that if they did form any form of romantic bond that it wouldn’t just crumble and break under the pressure of a long upheld villain/hero relationship?

LEGO Flash and Dr. Fate blues duet

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash (2018)

Gonna be honest, this was such a fucking fever dream when I first saw it at 1am with my sister. Just, caught us waaaay off guard. And this is the ONLY musical number in the ANY of the LEGO DC movies I have seen! (And I have seen a majority of them!) Like, what the fuck?!

Easily the worst DC lego movie I’ve seen, but it’s pretty good to watch ironically. And some less popular characters get a bit more of the spotlight, which is always nice.

But don’t trust the plot summary on HBO Max! A lot of the characters mentioned don’t show up until the last fifteen minutes. Which sucked because Krypto and Ace were the reason we were so curious about this movie!

On Tuesday , I was soooo bored and nobody was playing with me on Roblox so I complained abt it to curls so then he said he can play with me and how he was bored as well. (Top 5 favorite movie anon again) hrrgrhrhrh I am. Very very normal about this movie. I am a HUGE Batman + DC fan (unfortunately) and I love it so much. The lighting is gorgeous and the VA’s do such a good job. There’s CALENDAR MAN!!

I am a firm believer that there is not a single straight person in all of Gotham, and Lego Batman focuses on some of the queerest people in the entire city.

Also it just. I don’t know, MAYBE it’s because I’ve watched that one queercoding-Lego Batman Movie video essay a few too many times. But it means so so much to me that after DECADES of batman being forced further and further from his campy, expressive baseline and further *angrier* at the Joker for being everything Batman “shouldn’t” be in the eyes of a lot of comic-enjoyers.

It feels so *fulfilling* to finally see him and a joker that understands him, finally on equal ground. Every (well-made) batman and joker DO have feelings of some sort for each other, and a certain tenderness that keeps them from killing each other. But LBM gives them a chance to properly respect each other. Something that while batman has a matching respect with a lot of his rogues (such as Dr. Freeze, and even scarecrow and Clayface in the Arkham universe), it’s always been lacking a little bit with Joker. Because while they obsess over each other, neither of them trust each other enough as far as they can throw the other.

But Lego Batman finally gives them that opening.

And it’s so, so nice to see. It’s a narrative arc and beautiful storyline with so much care poured into it that we don’t see with a good chunk of Batman adaptions.

i am a little lego movie 2 hater but elaborate why you enjoy it. i want to know

like i said before the movie was great!!! Though if i were to list specific details of what i enjoyed …… well, i really liked the story!! i liked the Fighting Over Toys that happens when siblings don’t know how to share, when the older one still cherishes their toys and doesn’t want to give them to the younger one to play with, and the younger one just wants to feel included and share a fun experience with their sibling. i liked how the story happened both in the real world and in the lego world, how both of those worlds affected each other and how in the end it was all just one big misunderstanding because of the Sibling Effect . and more about the story: i just really loved how silly and whimsical it was!!! you can really tell that the first lego movie was made more for kids, and the second movie—five years later—was made for the ‘grown-up’ kids, but that it was still silly and meta and self aware. i dont know if im explaining it well…. seeing those positive happy toys try to act more mature and Edgy and Emo and Grown Up And Epic, it really put a smile on my face and i enjoyed that a lot! most movies or shows that grow up with their audiences just genuinely try to be more mature and Serious(tm). But not this movie. lego movie 2 is for when your 12 year old self who just started puberty and middle school and felt like their childhood was ending and the world was hopeless and unsalvageable. lego movie 2 is for all the edgy preteens and teenagers who drew knives and eyes and emo cats/dogs/various animals in their notebooks because they felt like life sucked. And sure, when you’re actually 12 or however old and Really going through that phase, you’d watch this movie and scoff at it. really? a happy ending? no one’s the REAL bad guy? so stupid. so immature. so childish. what a dumb movie. but when you watch this movie as an older person who’s already went through the worst of their edgy phases and knows that, sure, the world sucks, but that it’s still worth it? well then this movie is perfect for you. I really don’t get why people would rag on lego movie 2 for being too simple or juvenile or whatever—i think it’s a very sweet premise! i think it’s a good story about how growing up is HARD, it is DIFFICULT and SCARY and MORTIFYING!!! SUDDENLY ALL THE JOY HAS BEEN SUCKED OUT OF THE WORLD!!!! but it is a story about how facing reality is easier with friends by your side, with the people you love and who love you. it’s a story about how even if you weren’t saved, even if nobody was there for you, you should still stay yourself and open up your heart to people and trust, because that’s the only thing we have left when life gets scary (and life is scary most of the time). it’s a story about staying soft instead of toughening up (i sincerely believe lego movie 2 could cure toxic masculinity, could stop the rise of alpha male grindness and could end meanness as a whole), and it’s a story about self love. And sure batman might’ve flossed for 3 seconds but all of the music was banger and you’ll find me listening to Not An Evil Queen for 50 hours straight. 10/10

Idea for a story

i dont really have bruce centric ideas because tbhhhh bruce has been so many different things over the years i just mold him to fit my needs for other stories. like i want to write bruharv fics or fics w eddie but harvey and eddie are what set the scene, not bruce, bc they have more firmly set personalities than him. late 80s bruce vs late 90s bruce are two completely different people, and btas bruce and rob bat bruce are like complete opposites to me in the way they wear the cowl. so yeah. the only time i might center something around bruce is if im writing a superbat story, bc i think clark is just as fluid at this point, but i dont really have as much interest in writing a superbat story!

First impression

first intro to harvey was during jasons robin era, so like, annual 14, #410 or whatever, you know what im talking about. hes just camp enough and he also gets frankly the most sympathy from the writers we really see him get outside of btas, imo. i was instantly sucked into the idea of this man who fought his way into the system because he wanted to change it, who believed in the law, but gradually became more and more disillusioned with it as he saw proof that a corrupt system would always be corrupt. morality, balance, and justice is the foundation harveys built his life on as an answer to the abuse he faced, and the way that all shatters for him is just. augh. add that to his beautifully complicated and desperate relationship with bruce and i just fell in love with him instantly

hes like my favorite character outside of jason im fucking obsessed with him. i think im a little delusional about it but dc is so goddamn ableist with him i feel like i have to take some liberties, and he can be so INTERESTING if you just give him the room to be. also btas harvey is hot. im not taking any questions at this time.

Idea for a story

ive had this idea in the back of my head since before i even started working on the jdau where harvey and 2f are trying to become better, sort of, or at least commit crimes in a way that they can feel better about. turning their attention back to mob bosses ala dark victory eventually drives them to team up with jason, who is post utrh and no contact with bruce and the batfamily, who harvey has no idea is even the same punk robin that once insulted his car. jason finds a father figure in harvey while harvey finds a new path to redemption (or antihero bullshit) through jason, and they both help each other sort out their messy ties to bruce. i dont know if ill ever get around to writing it- definitely not until ive gotten the jdau more or less out of my system- but i think about it sometimes.

all of you fuckers need to go look up shit about did rn forreal im not joking. if you think 2f is an evil alter you are buying wholesale into the ableist shit dc is feeding you and its a problem. if you are going to write harvey and 2f, you need to accept that they both kill, that they both do crimes, that 2f is not the sole thing holding harvey back from “going good” again. find a different way to differentiate them. i see this in every goddamn corner of the fandom and it floors me how many of you are comfortable with perpetuating dcs ableism so long as its a “bad” disability like did.

i was just ranting about this the other day but i think the difference between harvey and 2f is that harvey tries very hard to repress things as the apparently normal part and wants very badly to believe in the legal system and that he could be a good person (pre acid, we see him kind of give up on that after the acid) whereas 2f embraces his anger and passion and has significantly less hope in the system and feels that he is inherently a bad person due to extremely low self esteem, because, yknow, hes the emotional part, hes the trauma holder. theyre both angry, they both commit crimes, harvey just has issues around letting himself experience negative emotions. this is pretty much the foundation for everything else i write because its how i work around the evil alter bullshit. they are both complicated (even more so than i can put concisely like this), it cannot just be 2f is bad and the source of all evil.

First impression

the first comic i ever read w eddie having any sort of significant part was hush and the joy of seeing that mystery come together and having eddie be the mastermind behind it all, as a huge mystery fan, was like nothing else. eddie was clever, irritating, and smug as all hell, with the goofiest goddamn schtick, and i just fell in love with him. the more i got to know him after that the more i loved him.

eddie is one of the most camp rogues in the whole gallery. hes pathetic, whiny, attention-seeking, and hes also clever, annoying, and smug. i like that hes so often harmless but also has these little moments where he really does get batman on the ropes with just his brain. hes a little mastermind and i love that. hes a little creacher. hes hilarious. he has so much potential. he drives me crazy. im listening to batman unburied rn and hes so obnoxious i want to chew off my own leg. he remains one of my favorite batman characters of all time

Idea for a story

ive already said im a mystery fan. when i was a kid, i read every single detective novel i could get my hands on, and its such a wonderful moment for me when batman can scratch that little itch in my brain. ive been rereading some of those old books lately and i really want to write a rddlebat fic in that style where bruce is a detective (but in a busybody way, and not in a police way), and riddler is the moriarty to his sherlock that keeps him running in circles. i can see the setting so clearly in my mind. ive just never written a mystery before and im struggling to think of one compelling and in character enough to drive the plot.

the first tim comics i ever read were. the first tim comics ever. he was in full hero worship mode and his hair looked dumb as hell and he was a cute kid. his audacity was fucking stunning, but i was willing to forgive him for it

sollux is a lot of fun as a character because hes so dry and flippant about everything. hes a genuine true neutral character who most of the time cant find it in himself to give a shit about anything, and you have to admire that. hes laid back, except for when hes not, and his interpersonal relationships are generally snarky and ribbing with an undercurrent of very genuine care and affection. he was one of my favorite trolls for a very long time and i love him a lot.

FLUFF: I like the idea that both of them come from kind of broken homes so they try their best to make sure THEIR home is far from broken. They’re both very nurturing people so they just want to take care of one another. I also think they love showing how in love they are— lots of cuddles and nuzzles and kisses and pet names. batman > iron man

@hauntedpersonakidknight asked if i could put my list of why i think batman is better than iron man. fair warning: i wrote this in 2018 when i was supposed to be researching switzerland’s position on climate change for class. the reasons are mainly jokes (i do think batman’s better. that part isn’t a joke)

oh, also, quick disclaimer: this is pretty much any take on batman but i’m really only using mcu stark

without further ado:

in lego batman (2017), the password to the batcave is “Iron Man sucks”

batman has superior fighting skills. both stark and bruce rely on technology to fight, as neither of them are superpowered. however, bruce actually has martial arts training, whereas stark just flies around in a suit, firing his blasters. bruce can actually fight

stark runs (flies) into a fight, whereas bruce plans extensively. even his backup plans have backup plans

stark’s drive for being a superhero has fluctuated many times. first he wanted money, then fame, then saving the world. bruce’s drive never changed. he wants to protect the people and things he cares about

bruce is constantly working for justice. he doesn’t care if it’s illegal, he just wants the streets to stay safe. in contrast, stark works with/for the gov’t. he may sometimes save the world without the gov’t’s permission, but the majority of the time he listens to/obeys them. this causes many conflicts he could have prevented but didn’t because he didn’t want to do something illegal

going back to point 2, bruce would be able to defeat stark without the suit. stark, without his suit, is pretty much useless on the field

you can argue that in armed combat, where stark has his suit, he’d win. and yeah, maybe. but bruce does extensive research on everyone due to his major trust issues. so in a fight, it can be assumed that bruce would find out everything about stark. he’d know his strengths, weaknesses, moves, everything, before the fight even started

bruce is far better at keeping his identity a secret

this came about when some friends and i were playing fuck marry kill (a fun game for sexually repulsed aces) and the category brought up was “genius billionaires without superpowers: hank pyme, tony stark, bruce wayne”. that led to a discussion about who was better: batman or iron man (for some reason hank pyme was dropped. think we just forgot about him). only one other friend agreed that bruce was better, and so this list was created!

I have to be honest, Teen Titans wasn’t a show that I was able to watch when it came out because I didn’t have cable tv yet and by the time that I had it I was actually into other TV shows, I watched a few episodes from what I believe was the last season but I didn’t really like the Titans lineup so I didn’t pay much attention to it. So, I can’t really say anything about his characterization there.

Young Justice I have watched! I believe I watched it for the first time in 2018 on Netflix. I loved the first season, it was amazing and it kinda made me want to read DC comics again. I had “taken a break” from reading DC because I was consuming another type of content, mostly MCU and Marvel Comics. I watched seasons two and three but I didn’t like them as much as the first one because I felt like there were too many characters and it overwhelmed me a little bit.

So, to answer your question, I love Young Justice’s characterization of Dick Grayson (as Robin, Nightwing, and just Dick). Although the universe where YJ is very different from the comics one, they did make an excellent job developing Dick and the other team members in the first season.

It was weird seeing Dick in the YJ team instead of the Titans one but I am glad that they did it that way because they took their time to develop Dick and then Tim as the Robins in the different seasons.

Dick not being the leader of the team was also weird but it led to so many interesting plotlines for him. I also felt that their take on Dick Grayson was very in tune with the times in which the show came out he was very tech-driven (which he used to be in comics but then they gave that characteristic to Tim and took it away from Dick) and is Bat training was shown plenty, he truly seemed like one of the most valuable assets for the team even though he was the youngest and he had no powers.

His personality felt real for his age in the show, he was funny and smart, his acrobatic skills were there. I really loved the way they handled his change of mind when it came to wanting to lead the team at all costs and wanting to become Batman in the future. That episode was wonderfully done and seeing that therapy session that Dick had still makes me feel sad for him.

He was friends with everybody and tried to make everyone feel welcome which I think is also very in tune with Dick Robin in comics. He seemed to be learning from everyone and every experience too which was also nice. The Circus episode really showed us another side of Dick, he was being protective of his first family and he was also starting to feel comfortable as a sort of co-leader of the team. He had a very deep connection with his teammates and that was also similar to his relationship in comics with the Titans.

As I said before I really couldn’t enjoy the other two seasons the same way that I did the first but the Dick Grayson that I saw in them was a really cool one, it did give me Outsiders (2003) vibes from those seasons so I am a little bit biased. But I really liked the idea of Dick and Kaldur having this secret plan that could help everyone in the end even though it might have cost them their friends. When that situation repeated itself in the third season I still sided with Dick (and the people that were on “his” team), it really felt like Dick could see the bigger picture of the problems that they were facing, I wouldn’t say that Dick puts the mission in front of everything else though, that’s Batman’s thing. Dick really just wanted everyone to be okay and he saw that people were trying to solve the problem inefficiently, which would eventually get more people hurt. He was very selfless but also realized that by doing what he did he didn’t only help to save the world but he did make some people think twice before trusting him completely.

That last scene where Dick calls everyone for a meeting and he is surprised when everyone shows up is a very Dick Grayson scene, people really understood that as a team leader Nightwing had to make some very difficult decisions so when he called, they all showed up. Bruce saying that Dick commands more respect than he realizes was so true and iconic of him.

One of my favorite episodes was “Private Security” where Dick teamed up with Will, Roy, and Jim harper, it was super fun and it also had some very interesting moments that showed how Dick was grieving the death/disappearance of his friend, and how he needed someone to tell him that he was going to be okay and that there were people who needed training and he was the best option to do it. That interaction between Dick and Will made me remember Dick and Roy’s chat at the beginning of Outsiders (2003).

Overall, I really enjoyed Dick’s characterization in that show, it respected the original material and made Dick a solid character even though he had differences from his comic counterpart.

I have seen very few animated movies from DC that had Dick as a featured character. I watched: Under the Red Hood, Son of Batman, Batman vs Robin, Batman: Bad Blood, Teen Titans: Judas Contract, and Batman: Hush.

In those movies, Dick’s characterization hasn’t been consistent, in each movie they manage to get something right but they butcher everything else. Mostly I enjoy Dick’s interactions with people, he had a fun moment with Damian, Kory, Bruce, and Selina. But he is never the real center of these stories so they kinda throw him to the side and nerf him a bit too much.

In “Bad Blood” he was Batman to Damian’s Robin but that movie didn’t do much for their relationship. He kinda is reduced to Batman’s most loyal friend or something like that, there isn’t much depth to him or his characterization.

He really wasn’t loved or respected in these movies, “Batman vs. Robin” had the Court of Owls as the main enemies but they didn’t use Dick as a plotline, they had Damian and Bruce having a conflict instead.

“Batman: Hush” was a mess, from every point of view, Dick was done dirty in that scene in the cemetery (I can’t really remember if it was a cemetery the place where he got dosed with fear(?) gas and Selina had to save him), he is treated as if he were an unexperienced vigilante, it is very sad to see.

Also, they had this very annoying “trope” where Dick dislocated his shoulder someway, somehow in every movie. I don’t know why that was, but it happened too often.

As you can see, I haven’t watched that much DC animated content so, from what I have seen Dick’s best characterization is the one from Young Justice, I think they did a great job mixing their own version of Dick Grayson with his comic counterpart. They really respected and worked with the original material.

But! “The Lego Batman” needs to have a special mention because this movie was a gift from the gods. This is a masterpiece, it’s Dick Grayson makes my heart melt, I adore that little Robin, he makes me happy. Bruce and Joker’s relationship is a perfect dramatization of what Batman and Joker’s relationship is in comics and I will be forever glad that DC took the initiative and made fun of themselves like that.

It is just the perfect comfort movie!

Another special mention is “Batman: Under the Red Hood” but I am not mentioning it because of Dick’s appearance there, I just think that this movie is neat and amazing and that everyone should watch it. It has Jensen Ackles voicing Jason! Best Jason Todd/Red Hood that we have ever had out of comics!

End thoughts: So Damian’s obviously not in character too much but I like seeing him as a genuinely happy child so I don’t really care. It was also fun seeing Jason happy and the squabble between Dick and Barbara was amusing since it seems kinda accurate. I don’t know much about Catherine but she’s awesome in this movie (though she and Barbara look almost identical). Overall it was pretty good and an enjoyable experience :D Though I wish Tim, Steph, Cass, and Duke were in it. I can only imagine the heightened chaos
