My Hero Academia: Scientific Terminology for Quirks
At least scientific terms that I think would be used in this world on academic papers and so on. Like how 'Quirk' seems to a layman's term or widely accepted slang while 'meta-ability' is the more technical word used.
...
Aves Class Homo Sapien: Avian-based heteromorph Quirks
Binate-Quirk: A Quirk comprised of two separate and/or unrelated abilities. (Example: Shouto's fire and ice.)
Combustion Immunodeficiency Disorder*: The condition of not having a resistance and/or immunity to fire in spite of having a fire-based Quirk. (Example: Touya.)
Mammalia Class Homo Sapien: Mammal-based heteromorph Quirk
Nonlinear Mutation Phenomenon: The circumstance in which a child is born with a Quirk that has no obvious origin from either parent. (Example: Eri being born with Rewind despite neither of her parents having a Quirk like that.)
Reptilia Class Homo Sapien: Reptile-based heteromorph Quirk
Sentient Animalia Meta-Ability Manifestation Phenomenon: A rare occurrence in which a non-human organism manifests a Quirk. (Example: Nezu.)
Sentient Meta-Ability Phenomenon: A Quirk that has conscious thought, self-awareness, and can communicate with its host and/or other people. (Examples: Tokoyami's Dark Shadow and Rody's Pino.)
Triune-Quirk: A Quirk comprised of three separate and/or unrelated abilities. (Example: Nine's Weather Quirk; his control over precipitation (water), wind, and lightning (electricity.)
Tetrad-Quirk: A Quirk comprised of four separate and/or unrelated abilities. (Unheard of in MHA's canon, but basically what Aang's (ATLA) Quirk would be if he were an MHA character, control over water, earth, fire, and air.)
Vanishing Meta-Ability Syndrome: The sudden and inexplicable loss of one's Quirk. (The technical medical jargon used to describe AFO's actions before doctors realized there was a person behind it, but I can also see sudden Quirk loss happening as a result of a traumatic event, whether it's a physical injury or psychological damage.)
...
*Immunodeficiency is a condition in which the immune system is in some way impaired or absent, generally resulting from a missing component in genetic makeup. Since skin is part of the immune system and Touya's genetic disparity presents itself as his body not having the natural resistance to his fire-Quirk that it's supposed to, I would think doctors in the My Hero 'verse would probably classify that condition as a form of congenital immunodeficiency. That is a word that I can see being slightly redefined/adjusted to suit new medical issues that appeared with the advent of superpowers since I doubt he's the only one who has complications involving an incompatible Quirk.

People you will encounter working at The Bookstore
Little old lady buying a huge stack of the most violent thrillers you can imagine
Person who very tentatively asks if you carry the single most popular book in the store, manages to get the title wrong
Pre-teens who definitely should not be this comfortable in the adult romance section
Man in a cowboy hat and cowboy boots buying cowboy books. This feels right.
Small child who would like to register his dissatisfaction about not getting a toy
Small child who is happy to be getting books, but would like to register his dissatisfaction about not getting a book he's already read fifteen times
Man who calls the store every day to ask if the new issue of his favorite niche magazine is in yet. Being told that you only get shipments Mondays and Thursdays will not deter him
Man who definitely thinks you're too young and female to be recommending him history books
Man who's very enthusiastic about your history recommendations and thinks it's "nice to see young people taking an interest"
Old person absolutely baffled by e-reader, wants your help setting it up
Attractive young man who appears to have exactly your taste in books, and his girlfriend

Baldur's Gate 3 Companion!Tav Ask List
What if your Tav was a recruitable companion, instead of the main character? (contains major spoilers for the game, and for some dark urge runs as well)
General
Where can your Tav be recruited?  Are they first encountered on the Nautiloid, or in the Nautiloid crash region?  Or are they not recruitable until a later act?
Do the other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav?
Does your Tav have any comments or advice when you recruit other companions?
What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?
Are there any instances where your Tav can permanently leave the party, depending on player character actions?
Do they have any secrets that can be revealed?  What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light?
Do they have their own personal quest that spans the course of the game?  Can it take different branching paths depending on the choices the Player Character makes?
What do they say when the Player Character asks them to stay in camp?  How about when the Player Character asks them to come adventuring again?
Does your Tav have any escalating conflicts with one of the other companions, like Lae’zel and Shadowheart’s knife-fight?
Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game?
Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for your character? (Like Gale’s anecdote about the barfight after you save the goblin prisoner)
Story Specific
How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor?
How do they advise the player character on Raphael?
How do they react to Astarion biting the Player Character?
How do they react to the Player Character letting Abdirak whip them?
How do they react to the Player Character taking their first tadpole power?
Will they stay with the Player Character regardless of siding with the goblins or the tieflings, or is it possible for them to leave the party permanently?
What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?
Do they have comments on who the Player Character chooses to spend the night with?
Do they have unique dialogue if the Player Character lets them die when they steal the Blood of Lathander?
How do they react if the PC licks the dead spider in the Gauntlet of Shar?
What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?
Is it possible for your Tav to be kidnapped and replaced by Orin?  How is Orin's deception revealed?  How do they react to the PC rescuing them in the Temple of Bhaal?
How do they react to the PC either allowing Astarion to ascend or convincing him to spare the 7000 spawn?
How does Tav react to the PC becoming a mind flayer?  Can they offer to become one themselves?  Does their reaction change if they’re romanced?
How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them?
How do they react to the Dark Urge killing Alfira?
If romanced, how do they react to the Dark Urge trying to kill them in Act 2?
Romance
Is your Tav a romanceable character?  Are there any specific requirements to romancing them?
Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?
Are they a polyamorous or a monogamous option?
Do they have a special romance scene at the tiefling/goblin party?
Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take?
How do they react to the player character breaking up with them, or choosing another character over them?
What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test?
If they’re poly, do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin?
How do they react if the PC has sex with Mizora? The Emperor?  Haarlep?
Will they join in with the PC and the Drow Twins, or no?
What are Tav’s plans for the future?  Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in?
Free space! Share anything from your companion!Tav au!

What to read before The Veilguard drops
Yes people, we have homework. In case you missed it, or need to refresh that memory because hey, it's been a while, here's a quick short list of what to (re)read in preparation for this new entry in the series.
Books:
From Tevinter Nights: Down among the dead men (introduces Emmrich and Manfred), The wigmaker job (introduces Lucanis), The streets of Minrathous (introduces Neve).
The Last Flight, last novel released somewhere around DA: Inquisition. Takes the action to Weisshaupt, Grey Wardens HQ, and jumps between that present and the past explaining how the Griffons became extinct during the Fourth Blight. Will explain where Davrin's griffon came from.
Comics:
Magekiller. It's pretty introductory overall, set around Inquisition but it introduces "magekillers" as a job some people do. While in Tevinter Nights Lucanis is introduced as an Antivan Crow seems he's decided to change careers so it can't hurt to learn a bit about it.
The missing. Gives us Varric and Scout Harding already working together, and introduces us to Neve.
Short Stories:
Posted a while back in the BioWare page for Dragon Age day as crumbs to feast on while we waited, and waited, and waited..I recommend reading all of them simply because most people may have missed them and they add to lore and characters that while not among the new companions may still make an appearance and be relevant in Veilguard.
Of course I recommend reading EVERYTHING if possible, it all adds more layers and flavor and we know Solas is in the details, we can't miss a thing, but I think if you're short on time this counts as light reading enough to know where you'll land when Dragon Age: The Veilguard finally arrives.

After some reflection on why I gravitate towards certain characters, I've narrowed my favorites into three archetypes:
(Note: These are not all of my favorites; just the immediate suspects who come to mind right now.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A snarky bitch
(With exceptions. This sort of character does have a fine line between a delightful smart ass and someone who's just mean.)
...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone who's living in the madness of their own mind
(However which way that manifests.)
...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters who just have confidence or straight-up audacity and/or are past the point of giving a shit for whatever reason
(I'm aware insecurity is a big part of Shizuo's character, but the guy also has boundaries he's not shy about enforcing.)
...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or characters who are some bizarre combination of all three
(Or have traces of those three elements.)
Yes, Allen belongs in this final category because, while a sweetheart, he will still blackmail his allies, cheat at cards and publicly humiliate his opponents, and is a occasionally snarky little shit.
...
Disclaimer: None of this is to say I don't enjoy the badasses like Vi, or wholesome characters like Celty or Sypha, or the cinnamon roll, heart full of rainbows, 'can do no wrong' type of characters like Deku. They just don't entertain me half as much as the lineup pictured above.
You also may have noticed that some of these characters are straight up really awful people. (Izaya in my opinion being the worst cause he doesn't even have the paper thin excuse of a tragic backstory.) Being entertained by fictional characters and condoning what they do are two separate matters. I condone nothing; these people are monsters. Sometimes you want to hand them a blanket and some tea, sometimes you're just here to watch them fall, but fictional monsters are the only good kind of monsters.

one of the best realizations I have had as I have grown up is how amazing it is to show up for the people you love, unashamedly and unapologetically. show up to their classical music productions when you don't know anything about that kind of music, their chemistry club meetings when you are a literature student and don't know anything about chemistry but your bestie is doing cool experiments with copper sulphate, the very alluring blue portion you were tempted to drink in school cause it looked so magical. show up when they wake up from a long nap and have missed dinner and are feeling shitty, make them maggi and get them their fave chocolate. show up when they rant about animal documentaries excitedly and listen when they tell you the plot of jujustu kaisan at 4 am during exam week. take a walk with them at 11 pm in night because they told you you have no classes tomorrow so come down (it's their emotionally suppressed way of saying I miss you). cuddle with them to sleep because they are scared of thunderstorms. make them an art piece and write them a love letter for their birthday to show them you love them so much and you will never stop probably and that scares you sometimes but their presence will reassure you always. I know you know that they know that you love them but when you gift them your "an incomplete list of things you love about them" in your shitty handwriting they will smile and cry and choke you in a hug for 5 mins, it will be a smile spilling out of the sun and it'll be so worth it always. reply to their messages of hey "your name" except your name gets weirder and weirder cause they are bored and miss you and wanna talk and even if you are busy and tired , do return some of their affection with a small message that yes, you missed them too even though you are too tired to express. give them your fave drawing and you'll see how they have hung it up on their cork board in their dorm room. tell them to spam their earring collections and marvel over their strawberry earrings. send them a video message when they send you their jiggly caramel pudding video because omg they can cook now and you are so happy for them that you want to portal through the phone and hug them (you're gonna give them a recipe notebook for their birthday). let them rant on the phone while you fold your laundry, it's manageable mostly.
there are days when you can't show up and it's okay and they'll understand, most people who love you do, they should. but gosh, putting in effort in any relationship isn't that the best thing? because they are not just worth your love, the point of worth never even comes cause they are the very meaning of love. because God remember what Miyazaki said when you love someone you inspire each other to live and grow even when you recognize how hard living is. growing is difficult but you love growing with them.
I used to think I love people too much but you know what they love me too much too. so when someone asked richard siken what do you do when you love someone too much he said congratulate yourself. and today I am congratulating myself cause I know the loves of my life are doing that too.

a list of ways siblings can be that might be more interesting than [everything is happy and good and don't we love to unironically and uncritically uphold the primacy and value of blood relations]:
"you are so much better a person than i will ever be, and it's not right because i'm the older one. you're the second try who far outstripped our parents' biggest dreams in ways i never could."
"i am really really tired of being idolized but you've staked so much of your identity on being The Bad One and found such freedom in it that i kind of feel further trapped in this role and maybe resent you for it."
"i only like you because we grew up together. sometimes we laugh about some old inside joke and i can feel the gaps growing between us and i wonder what our lives would have looked like if i met you in any other context. i'm beginning to think we only care about each other out of some sense of obligation neither of us has successfully rooted out yet."
"we're siblings, so this relationship is inherently good and pure and important. don't worry, i'm not really hurting you. this is how siblings are. i've never hurt you, actually. we love each other so much, don't we?"
"i got out. you didn't."
"our parents suck and the best and safest way to keep them off my back is to pretend to be helping you and then throw you under the bus when the time is right."
"you know things about me that i would never tell anyone, and your presence in my life is making it impossible to maintain the carefully constructed new identity i've built away from our family. i need you gone, now."
"if we play the role of siblings well enough, everything that's wrong with our family can be fixed."
