In appreciation of Captain Fordo
This man has me cackling as I'm trying to watch the 2-D animaled Clone Wars. Easily the most dramatic captain on the battlefield, but at least he knows his angles.

I'm in love. Why didn't they put Fordo in more stuff?

I was thinking about the one headcanon that during The Summoning, the Lords in Black may appear as people the nerds knew like Steph's dad, and it made me think What If. What if Tinky and Nibbly appeared to Grace after the events of NPMD, appearing as her parents? They fuck with Grace by both appearing completely human at first to manipulate her, then slowly revealing themselves and their more monstrous aspects more and more. I think Tinky's presence would fuck up Grace the most, as his features like horns and goat hooves are aligned with traditional depictions of Satan/demons, twisting her father's image into that of a demon. ...I need to draw this now.

I've been thinking about that post from @888-fr about Fest Skin/Accent entries over time...
First of all, talk about motivation for me to get back and finish my Festival Skin Census/Guide, I forgot about that. I'll start work on that over the next few days!
But I wonder if maybe more community discussion and interaction between different artists and players would help? The thing I keep circling back to is how we have all these community events we work on for each fest, and themes around that. I feel like there could be a way to tie that into the making of skins/accents...
It would be kind of cool to encourage entries that tie into whatever the community theme is. This is easier or harder ofc depending on the year and theme but it could encourage variety and creativity.
Just kind of spitballing here mostly, lol

***Spoilers for Barbie***
I'm seeing a lot of people in the comments who think Gloria's speech shouldn't have unbrainwashed the Barbies because she was "just complaining for two minutes". I'd like to counter with what I believe the rationale was:
The Barbies think that everything is perfect in the human world. They think women are completely equal to men, that there is no gender disparity in the workforce, etc. So when Ken comes back from the human world and tells them about the patriarchy, their understanding is that women have every opportunity and an equal say in society, but the patriarchy still exists. Obviously, human women see the good in the patriarchy and allow it to continue. Thus the Barbies go along with it.
The point of Gloria's speech wasn't that life is hard for women and the Barbies realize that their lives are hard and they snap out of it. That makes no sense - the whole point of the film is that Barbie starts thinking like a human and immediately becomes alienated and self-conscious.
No, the reason Gloria's speech unbrainwashed the Barbies was because they realized that things aren't perfect in the human world, that women are still fighting for equality, and that the patriarchy is a major cause of the world's problems. Those realizations and the truth behind them is what brings them back to being themselves.
This is all my perspective of what was going on. To me, this makes Gloria bringing the Barbies out of their brainwashing with a speech plausible.
Also, it's a movie about sentient dolls, so suspension of disbelief is a must!
“It’s literally impossible to be a woman.
You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow, we're always doing it wrong?
You have to be thin, but not too thin, and you can never say you wanna be thin. You have to say you wanna be healthy, but also, you have to BE THIN.
You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass.
You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean.
You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas.
You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time.
You have to be a career woman, but also, always be looking out for other people.
You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is INSANE, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining!
You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood, but ALWAYS STAND OUT and ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL. But never forget that the system is rigged, so find a way to acknowledge that but ALSO, always be grateful!
You have to never get old. Never be rude. Never show off. Never be selfish. Never fall down. Never fail. Never show fear. Never get OUT OF LINE. It's too hard! It's too contradictory, and nobody gives you a medal or says 'thank you!' And it turns out, in fact, that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also, everything is your fault.
I'm just so tired of watching myself, and every single other woman tie herself into knots, so that people will like us.
And if all of that, is also true for a doll just representing a woman, then I don't even know." -Gloria the barbie movie
this is it. this is exactly it oh my god.

Me every year, circa November to February: I probably don't actually have Season Affective Disorder. I mean, I don't LIKE winter. I'm not as creative, and I'm tired all the time, and I generally don't have as much interest in my passions, but I don't think it's like... clinical.
Me every year, on the first day that's slightly warmer than the previous one: this is what cocaine must feel like.

I sometimes wonder about Max Jagerman's family. Did they notice he went missing? Did they care? We get a glimpse at Max's relationship with his father when he talks about him in Waylon Hall, but that's about it.
I wonder if Max asking "Will you pray for me?" is because there is no one else who will, not even his own family. The school clearly didn't miss him, not even his "friends" because of how he treated them. The news barely ackowledged his death, and maybe the town as a whole would only miss him if he could have won them the football game.
In the end, Max was alone.

the tradwife movement is the same as it has always been - back in the kitchen, back to breeding - it just has better branding.
when i was younger, i hated pink. i was not like other girls. this is now something i'm embarrassed of - this was not me being a "girl's girl."
but it was expressing something many of us felt at the time: i literally wasn't what girlhood was supposed to be. this is a hard thing to explain, but you know when you're not performing girlhood correctly. it isn't as easy as "i liked x when girls liked y" - because there were other girls that liked x, too - but i never figured out exactly the correct way to like x, or to be interested in y.
now there is the divine feminine. this is the same rhetoric it has always been: women are biologically driven to like pink and ribbons and submitting to our husbands.
the problem is that the patriarchy found a better PR team. because yes, actually, i want every woman to have the choice to be a homemaker. i also want her taken seriously for her legitimate home-making labor. i want her to be recognized as also having a job, just unpaid. i want men to have this opportunity, too.
but it is no longer "i made this choice and I love it." instead it is a sixteen-paragraph rant about how selfish it is that my generation isn't having kids. instead it's long videos about how if you feed your children processed foods, you're going to kill them. instead it is "this is what womanhood is supposed to be. i feel bad for any other choices you're making."
the shame spiral is just prettier. it is large houses devoid of personality. it is the implication: if you don't have this, you aren't happy. the solid, everlasting assurance: women are actually supposed to be submitting. this is the default. this is the natural state of things. all other attempts inflict suffering.
but you can no longer say i'm not like other girls. you can no longer reject this image completely. you cannot find it revolting, even if you know that the underbelly is toxic and festering. sure, it is the same repackaged patriarchy. but the internet does not have shades of grey. you should support and reward other women! your disgust is actually internalized misogyny. not because you are seeing a vision of yourself the way they're trying to train you to be. not because you feel her ghost pass within an inch of your earlobe. not because your father will eventually ask you - why can't you be like her?
because they figured out how to make it beautiful: women will sell other women on this idea, and we will find the singular loophole in feminism. sure, she's shaming you in most of her videos. sure, she implies that a different life is obscene. but she just wants you to be happy! you'd be happier if you were listening!
and the whole time you're sitting there thinking: i'd actually just be happier if i had that kind of money.
