people whose governments do atrocities still don't deserve to die for their government's decisions

can you please address this? i love your content but this something serious and want to here your side too
Sure. This all stemmed from me reblogging a gifset of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman years ago and some anonymous person sending me an ask criticizing me for supporting Israel by doing that or something, which is a beyond absurd reason for all of this to have started, but I made the mistake of engaging with it.
So, to give a short rundown of how I feel about things, I do not support the government of Israel, I do not think Israel should have been created in the first place, but I recognize that it was created and that the people there, who are mostly descendants of literal Holocaust refugees, are not uniformly and universally responsible for the crimes that have been carried out by the state of Israel.
It would be great if we could go back to post-WWII and get a takeback and undo all of the horrific shit that has been done, but we can't, and I don't think that blaming the people of Israel for being born where they were born is a reasonable solution to this problem. We can absolutely take the state of Israel to task now for the oppression and brutality that they continue to engage in, but I think that treating normal Israeli people as if they are inherently bad by virtue of existing where they exist is kind of a disturbing line of thought to go down.
Similarly, a lot of anti-Israel sentiment has personally made me uncomfortable not just because it seems to be misplaced, but at least in my personal experience (which I obviously cannot say applies broadly to the entire world), a lot of the anti-Israel sentiment that I have encountered has served as a politically acceptable mask for outright antisemetism.
Further than that, the casualness with which people paint all Israeli people and oftentimes all Jewish people as criminals because of the actions of the state of Israel makes me very uncomfortable. As someone who has quite a few Jewish friends, I can say that again, at least in my experience, the amount of harassment that they have encountered because they are Jewish and because Israel exists makes me really unsettled, which is one of the reasons that I as a non-Jewish person feel a need to distinguish between the actions of a government versus the actions of the people that may be affected by it. I mean, I definitely don't want to be condemned for all of the horrific shit that the American government has done that I actively disagree with, and I am further baffled by the fact that American Jewish people are so often pressured and harassed into condemning Israel, a country that they likely have nothing to do with and have never even been to, in what seems like an attempt to force them to prove that they are one of the "good ones."
With all of that said, I was having a discussion off the cuff about Gal Gadot of all fucking things and maybe didn't express myself as clearly as I should have, but I didn't realize that people would be screenshotting what I was saying and posting it on Twitter years later. To be honest I know fuck all about Gal Gadot and was mostly reacting to the implication that she deserves criticism solely for the fact that she is from Israel and was conscripted into the IDF like every other Israeli citizen, which I thought was absurd then and think is absurd now. If she has said anything problematic beyond that I don't support it, but I'm not a fan of hers or knowledgeable about her as a person, and I don't think anyone deserves to be dragged by virtue of their place of birth or government required service.
Ultimately I said what I said and if someone has a problem with it then they are 100% in the right to call me out for it, I don't want to hold anyone to a standard that I wouldn't hold myself to and I think it is fair to criticize anyone for saying what they said. But I wouldn't say the exact same things in the exact same way now, and I would have been more thoughtful about the entire situation had I known that it was going to be something repeatedly brought up years after the fact.
If whatever I said before or whatever I'm saying now makes you not want to support me or my content anymore that is 100% fine, going against your personal beliefs about real-world and serious topics just because someone makes some content about a TV show or book you like is not worth it, and if anyone does not want to support me for any reason ever, that's fine. Everyone has parameters for what they are okay with and not okay with, and if I have ever done anything that someone else is not okay with, then I am not here to argue with it or justify myself. I can only express my feelings and opinions as they are now, and I can't say that they won't change in the future because I don't ever want to stop learning or growing.
And I'm sorry for this absurdly long explanation, but it is a serious topic that I get repeated questions about and I understand that as my social media profile grows I will probably get more questions and criticism about it, so I would like to have one big reference post to explain exactly how I feel and where I'm coming from.

While Americans are distracted watching the Super Bowl, Israel has chosen to begin bombing over a million Palestinians.
It’s timed too conveniently to be a coincidence.
There’s nothing we can do to stop this but please don’t be silent. Even if you’re watching the game, please use your voice to condemn genocide in this moment and afterwards.

lol the NYT published an article about how western states are "losing the information war against Hamas" and how "an alliance of authoritarian governments has succeeded in fomenting illiberal antidemocratic sentiment... where accusations of American or Western colonialism or dominance find fertile soil" (actual quote). no I think you're just obviously in the wrong here and everyone can see through your bullshit

“U.S. President Joe Biden issued a memorandum on Thursday requiring allies who receive military aid from the U.S. to provide ‘credible and reliable written assurances’ of their adherence to international law including international human rights law,” the Times of Israel reported. Israel will need to supply written assurances within 45 days or risk loss of aid. The report added, “The memo did not mention specific countries who would be held up to the new standard, but came amid increasing calls in the U.S. to condition aid to Israel due to concerns over its military operations in Gaza which were triggered by the Oct. 7 attacks, in which Hamas terrorists murdered some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapped 253.” No one should underestimate the impact of the decision. The Associated Press explained, “Democratic senators on Friday called Biden’s directive — meant to bring breadth, oversight, deadlines and teeth to efforts to ensure foreign governments don’t use U.S. military aid against civilians — historic.”
[.......]
Biden also pressed on with intense one-on-one diplomacy. After his comment on Thursday evening that Israel had been “over the top” in Gaza, Biden engaged with Netanyahu on Sunday in a 45-minute conversation — unusually long by most diplomatic standards (and even more so given that no time had to be spent on translation with English-fluent Netanyahu). According to the White House readout, Biden insisted Israel make “credible” arrangements to protect civilians before launching a widely criticized military plan for Rafah, where civilian casualties could mount. He also pressed Netanyahu again to increase humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. Biden’s patient approach with Netanyahu over months has gradually transformed into a private and public pressure campaign. A Biden official told The Post that the leaders had “a pretty detailed back and forth on that.”
-- Biden delivers tough love, takes historic step: Conditioning aid to Israel
Meanwhile Trump?
Trump has said he would implement travel bans on people from certain countries or with certain ideologies, expanding on a policy upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018. Trump previewed some parts of the world that could be subjected to a renewed travel ban in a mid-October speech, pledging to restrict people from the Gaza Strip, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and "anywhere else that threatens our security." During the speech, Trump focused on the conflict in Gaza, saying he would bar the entry of immigrants who support the Islamist militant group Hamas and send deportation officers to pro-Hamas protests.
Also: Trump vows to expand Muslim ban and bar Gaza refugees if he wins presidency
Really, really not sure how much clearer I can make it here for y'all, but sure. Something something Trump's actually a better choice on this issue/overall (sarcasm).

People are like "what I'd TS supposed to do about Palestine, she has no obligation to say or do anything, she's a celebrity!" But imagine if she said "I'm postponing all tours and further albums until a permanent ceasefire" like!!! Swifties would actually be a force for good in the world.
if she said “ceasefire now” rn swifties would actually find a way to stop the genocide by the end of next week

A note to the Sanders Sides fandom
Hey so like if you're a fander who supports Israel, no the fuck you are not <3 I have been in this fandom for six goddamn years and I am revoking your fander license. You lost the privilege of enjoying this show the second you decided to support actual fucking genocide :3
Thomas is pro Palestine! Most of the fandom is pro Palestine! The characters are very obviously NOT PRO GENOCIDE!
I am a fandom veteran and I have seen some absolutely insane shit come out of this fandom, but this is the final fucking straw :)
I could handle the out of character fan fiction of 2018, the absolutely abysmal shipping wars, the lowkey blatent trans phobia and queer fetishisation which we have mostly gotten past (thank fuck) but good fucking Lord, if you support Israel then you are not a fander. Plain and simple. Get the fuck out. I refuse to deal with you.
If i could I would revoke your internet privileges all together. Touch some fucking grass. Think for two seconds about what the hell Israel is doing and reconsider how you fit into this fandom. You are surrounded by an entire fandom made up of minorities. We are a community of disabled, queer, and POC individuals. The Sanders fandom has ALWAYS been that. We have ALWAYS tried our best to be an open minded and inclusive fandom, even in our rough patches. And you have the fucking AUDACITY to call yourself a fander when you support genocide?
Not only that, but a genocide which is so well documented, that if you spend even a second looking for them you'll find pictures of malnourished and dead children, excessive gore, torture, rape, and other tragedies?
You look at the death or Aaron Bushnell and you think Israel is in the right? That Hamas is "just as bad"?
It was never about the hostages and you should fucking know that by now.
How are you in this fandom. You do not follow our values, you do not follow our code, you do not follow our morals. How can you find love and comfort in this series when you so obviously go against what it stands for.
Leave and don't come back until you've re educated yourself. Or die. Either works.
From the hatred in my heart,
Nikki </3

‏Hello my friends, I am Nada from Gaza🍉♥️. I studied law for 4 years and applied to practice for 2 years. There was a week left for the exam and then the war came. The effort of 7 years was wasted. My husband had an accessories store and unfortunately it was destroyed. I had a very beautiful house. I lost everything because of the war and you can see that through the pictures. I am now homeless. I live in a tent. We have no income. My only hope is your support to get out of this situation. My family and I have children who need a future and a clean environment. You are the only hope. Support me through the link in my CV. Even 10 or 20 dollars would make a difference in my life and my family’s. You are the reason for rebuilding my life. Thank you for your humanity. https://gofund.me/ 🍉🍉🍉
it doesn’t take a superhero from a movie to save a life. just a little humanity

at the height of her career, the silence is deafening, and i have questions
listen, my sister has been a Swiftie for over a decade, BUT we both find it insane that she's at the height of her career and she can't find the time to publicly denounce the genocide in Palestine.
i KNOW we shouldn't depend on celebrities to get a message across, but we literally protest by the MILLIONS and no one listens.
the best time to speak up was yesterday. the second best time to speak up is today.
although i refuse to put that kind of faith in her specifically, i appreciate the other big names that have come forwards to call out the despicable actions that have been committed against the Palestinian people for 75 years. Colonialism is a disease.
i have to ask, if in a few decades from now, we will look back and see how she spoke over people who were condemning these events? will we even remember that someone even mentioned Gaza the night she announced her new album?
i have questions and i want answers
she doesn't owe anyone anything, of course, but all humans have SOME sort of moral code. Usually hearing "+30,000 deaths, including +15,000 children, in less than a year" is enough to get people asking questions at the very least. She hasn't even vague posted about it :/

Your a ZIONIST? :(((
Jesus Christ, so I continually get questions about this and cannot understand where it comes from, so I went to dear google to see why this keeps being a thing or why it became a thing and literally all I could find was this.
Tumblr media
As far as I can tell, the source of this ridiculousness is some Dany stans that I do not want to give any attention to, but who, I think it should be obvious, are a little fucking unhinged.
