ok anon you had me pulling up a whole argumentative essay here cus WHO TF SAID SAE WOULD 100% CHEAT??? 😔 that mischaracterization is so painfully inaccurate. twitter really took the whole emotionally unavailable itoshi archetype and ran with it. let me just clear the air here because my man deserves some explanation.

sae itoshi would not cheat. as in capital N and capital O. he took nearly an entire decade off his life just to work on his own issues and finally form a functional and healthy relationship with another human being. and you're telling me he's just going to let all that wash down the drain for someone else? 😒 twitter logic really be showing its illogical side here. apparently a man can be loyal to a professional sports career for eighteen years, but he can't be loyal to his significant other.

i think this misunderstanding probably happened cus of shidou. people read the manga and saw that sae dropped rin for a bug-eyed freak and automatically assumed he was disloyal. 😑 let me just say two things here:

(1) sae and shidou's relationship is strictly professional. imagine being stuck in an god awful corporate office with coworkers who bore you with their weaponized incompetence and a boss who annoys the living shit out of you. and then one day, the company hires a new recruit who is probably the most unhinged and debauched creature known to man. you're probably left wondering how he even got hired in the first place. but then you find out...he's useful. he takes risks and gets a high return on what he invests. it's impulsive and stupid, really. but at least it's unconventional and outside-the-box. he has your interest piqued. that's basically sae and shidou in a nutshell.

(2) just because sae gave shidou his number after the u-20 game does NOT mean he would do the same to any other person who would try to encroach on your relationship. and let's be real here. sae would get one text from shidou and block his contact.

anyways, here is my analysis on the bllk boys in general. introducing the anti-cheating to pro-cheating spectrum:

(A) cannot cheat under any circumstance (as in they already hate the fact that they live on a planet with 8.1 billion other people who are not you):

itoshi brothers (atp they don't even have the physical or mental capacity to entertain a third party), ness, reo

(B) cannot cheat due to physical incapability (literally cannot pull anyone within a five-meter radius to cheat with):

ego, igarashi, raichi, bachira (not that he's in any way unattractive...it's just...i feel like he would purposefully act weird to drive off people who aren't you)

(C) could not cheat (basically option A and B but less problematic version)

yukimiya, barou, kunigami, noa, loki, gagamaru, chigiri, niko, hiori, karasu (baby boy literally felt inferior cus his crush was the cutest in his class), kurona (head empty, just you)

(D) would not cheat (on you but everyone else is not included)

isagi (unintentionally a homewrecker to others but would never let anyone homewreck his relationship with you), leonardo (idk why but i just don't trust him entirely)

(E) could cheat (depends on what they get out of it):

kaiser, shidou (honestly what did you expect when you willingly dated a blonde man...)

(F) would cheat (either proven by canon or they accidentally fucked up somehow):

I've recently been replaying V3 and writing down like every line of diolouge that I see through an important lens(Because I have an unhealthy obsession with this goddamn game and I know like everything about it)

And it really bothers me how like every line of diolouge outside of trials or just any line that isn't fully voiced gets forgotten, Because it leads to so many relationships between the characters being overlooked or mischaracterized to hell and back

The biggest example is Maki and Kokichi's dynamic

Everyone in the fandom says they hate each other without even bothering to listen to each other. That Maki would try to kill him the second he steps into her line of sight. That Maki was always looking for an excuse to kill him

When it's so aggravatingly wrong.

Maki was mad at him for revealing her talent and putting her in harms way(Keep in mind, Before this, Maki thought of him in the exact same light as everyone else) but this only lasts maybe a day or so in canon or just one chapter at most. Because in the post trial of chapter 3...

This scene happens. And you can perfectly see that Maki talks calmly to him and promises HIM to his FACE. That she's going to work till everyone(Which includes him) can trust her And she would NOT say any of that if she hated him You can also tell Kokichi was genuinely surprised by this, You can tell by the sprite he uses(He only ever stops like that when he's surprised or being honest) Because he's perceived Maki as a cold blooded killer who would snap on him(Trying to kill him) by the slightest teasing word.(Which, ironically, Is how a lot of the fandom perceives her) And he perceived her that way because of his belief that murder is the worst thing a person can do(And he automatically sees people who've committed it as heartless killers until proven wrong, Which surprises him because he obviously doesn't see it often) But this perception of her is false and he learns this first hand when she replies calmly to him, Making a promise, and I can't stress this enough, TO HIS FACE she's gonna fix things between them so he can trust her even if she's an assassin Right after this he makes a comment to cover up the fact he was surprised and keep up the mask he's been playing on the whole game, But honestly I feel like his view on Maki has shifted in some way. Because we already know he hates her JOB and maybe this just helped him separate the sin from the sinner(per say) I will not deny Maki hated him in chapter five though, But that's only because he 1. Kidnapped Kaito And 2. Said he was the mastermind(Which Maki believed) But she would've hated anyone if they did that(Even someone like Shuichi) so it really isn't singled out on him. And I will also admit before this, Still in chapter five, she was angry at him and suspicious of him(Because he was now making promises to kill people if stuff didn't get interesting), But, Again. It isn't singled out on him. TLDR: Maki didn't hate Kokichi until she thought he was the mastermind, And Kokichi hated her job but was able to separate her from it

WOW THIS GOT REALLY EXTREMELY LONG. ITS UNDER THE CUT OK:

I'll start with Jack. I wax poetic about Jack a lot. He's a character that I find incredibly interesting, even if we don't really know particularly much about him yet. A lot of the things that I really like about him are like... interpretive? Or things that I've assumed. Hence the "not technically canon." I think a lot about "Jack Walten" as a like, a concept, within the universe of The Walten Files. Like, he was a man, who lived and had a place and a purpose within his community, but in the wake of his disappearance he's become sort of abstracted. I'm struggling to articulate this. I think of Jack as a character who has lost the ability to contextualize his own existence, and has instead become sort of an icon of himself.

I think to the community of Brighton he is a tragedy. He's a scary story. He's the memory of a man who was so well-known and so well-liked and then he up and disappeared one day and left countless rumors in his wake. And for Felix, I think he's always struggled to think of Jack as a person, and has always considered him more of a representation of his own inadequacy, and then a representation of his guilt. Felix has always kinda used Jack as a way to gauge himself. Like, Jack has always been a point of comparison. But then, Felix's relationship with Jack, to me, has also been a means for Felix to kinda improve his own self-image. I think a lot about Felix's very pleased sort of reaction to Jack's "You're a life saver, Felix." during the phone call in Bunnyfarm. I think Felix really desperately craves that sort of validation from Jack, because it makes him feel like less of a fuckup. Jack is a Good Person who has a Good Life and has his shit worked out, so if he's telling Felix he did good, he must be doing something right. That sort of dynamic where, for Felix, it's less about doing a favor for his friend, and more about chasing that dopamine hit that the validation will give him. Jack is a means to an end for him, where Felix wouldn't really care if it was Jack, or any other man who has a perceived position of success and privilege. (I have a lot more to say about this specifically, but this is turning into a Felix Analysis on my Jackmary Post, so I'm going to save it for the Felix bingo)

I got very distracted. I was trying to say that I think Jack is a person who, like, only really exists in the way the he is remembered, in the eyes of the people who remember him. Which is why Felix trying to scrub away his history with BSI is such a big deal, and why I also think it's really narratively and thematically interesting that Sophie *really struggles* to remember him. Like, she remembers him the least of anyone, almost. I think that's a really weighty sort of thing.

I don't want to talk for too long about this, because I've complained about it so many times already, but the sort of fandom perception of Jack Walten really irks me. And there's a lot of facets to his mischaracterization, I think. I could complain about the 'where the fuck are my children' TikTok audio for the millionth time, but I won't even bother. But I'm excited to see more of Jack. And I'm excited to learn more about him and to get a better idea of the sort of character he is and isn't, because I'm sure even my characterization of him is deeply flawed. Because we know so little.

ROSEMARY TIME: I love Rosemary Walten. This is another character where I think the Fandom Perception of her is so flaccid and boring. She's just Mother. She's just Woman. like so much of the time. And in fairness we don't really know very much about her, but I'm, again. very excited to learn. I like that she seems very headstrong, and I like how Martin characterizes her as being very ferociously protective of her family. I really want to know more about her relationship with Sophie during that month (and a bit) when everyone but the two of them had disappeared.

Really everything we've seen so far relating to her relationship with Sophie has been very striking to me. I'm sure this is to no-one's surprise. The "Am I still beautiful to you, Sophie?" Is still, to me, like the ultimate crescendo of the series. It's so stark. It's so fantastic. I think it's really easy to get caught up in a whirlwind of thinking about just how difficult and horrifying this character's life has been. And I'm exciting to see how this upcoming batch of episodes will continue to humanize her, and put that much more emphasis on the tragedy and horror of her death. And of her possessing a big animatronic sheep. I think a lot about Sophie hearing the a woman's dying screams through the speakers of that arcade cabinet, and recognizing it as the voice of her mother. I think that's really terrible and fantastic.

I wish I could talk more about her, like, independently, as a person, but we still know so little. So much of what I feel is assumptions. I love Rose though, I'm excited for more Rose. I'm excited for more everyone.

A comment you said on your last post really hit me as a good point of development/angst, please take or leave as you'd like and apologies if I've mischaracterized your Tav at all, but still hope this helps turn some wheels. "As a Cleric of Ilmater Mira is no stranger to Suffering for the sake of Faith." Has Mira considered that Astarion suffered for nothing?

Ultimately Mira's suffering gets her a cool connection with a god and awesome powers. Would that not make Astarion bitter in that respect? To me it seems like Mira is constantly pushing back against Astarion with a lot of "why is he like this" and "you have to be better because it's the right thing to do." At what point does Astarion share his story with her about that boy he tried to spare from Cazador's wrath? I feel like with this dynamic, that would be something he'd bring up as proof that she just got lucky that her god gave a shit about her in particular. Like he did the right thing, was horrendously punished for it and as far as he's concerned, Ilmater was sitting around twiddling his godly thumbs.

I feel like that would be a good point to develop some better mutual understanding between the pair of them that would make Mira maybe not forgive Astarion in the Act 2 confession, but at least understand where he's coming from, rather than just pushing her worldview.

So! You gotta keep in mind that the story you're referring to isn't told to the player character until Act 3, well after his confession.

By the time he confesses, Astarion has (depending on how many cut scenes you've managed to snag/long rests etc) Only told you that he lured victims back to Cazador, and that Cazador is a monster.

He's told you about his scars, and how he pities the other 6 of his "siblings". Plus a few small anecdotes, but *none of them* about anything he's ever done for anyone else.

He has however:

- Been extremely racist towards the Gur based on being attacked by them, likely having been hired by Cazador based on how the story was told so Mira explained that you can't hold an entire race of people accountable for the actions of the few. Astarion said he absolutely can, and fuck you

- Assaults you in your sleep then begs for blood and if you do trust him enough to let him bite "I'll be as gentle as a babe! I only need a little" but u don't pass the checks he will murder you

- Tried to abandon the Tieflings to their fate and told Mira they should move on not because of the tadpole problem, but because killing goblins "would take hours" and he's too lazy to bother

- Repeatedly and loudly stated that he desires power over all else, but has NOT yet told her its because he's scared/desires to feel safe

- Asked to be left out of the Nere quest because he didn't want to ruin his nails and would prefer to move on. Mira said Nere isn't the point, the gnomes are and he was EXTREMELY racist towards deep gnomes in general. He has NOT yet explained to the PC / Mira why he is against digging through rock (the crypt for a year thing) by the time he does this

- Tells you if you get in the way of what he wants he will go through you if necessary (denying him the tadpoles) and to stay out of his way

- Snaps at you about how to deal with Yurgir if you try to figure out what's going on instead of immediately killing him, even if you plan on killing him, and also rails against PC loudly in many other instances as well

And much much more, I won't go on. The point is that by the time he confesses, you have no back story. You have nothing to go on. There is nothing to trust. And the ONE thing Mira and Astarion had together where she thought they were making headway, their physical relationship, has now just been revealed to be a huge scam from the start.

Not ONLY that, but he doesn't regret doing it. He is proud of his simple plan and upset that it fell apart (at least that's how he presents it) and does NOT apologize for trying to use her. He instead says because he fell in love and she is so incredible he feels he can trust her enough to confess his deception without fear of being kicked out of the party.

You must remember that while Astarion has reasons, he hasn't revealed them. And if you judge a man based on his words and actions, at the point of the confession scene, he's not got a lot going for him besides puppy dog eyes and a backstory of admittedly horrific slavery that has only been lightly touched on because he wants you to know Cazador is Bad, but he's not about to spill his guts on what really all happend to him yet.

TLDR: Faith is just about all Mira has to give at this point, and Astarion has made her suffer by gaining her trust through manipulation and then only messing up because HE caught feelings.

In other versions of the game, if you don't finish his quest, he breaks up with PC very cruelly.

If you make it to Act 3 with Caz and you don't make the right dialogue choices or pass the persuasion and instead just say you won't let him ascend, he says he hopes you die screaming.

This man is my fave, don't get me wrong. But without the knowledge of his entire character, when you go in blind or you play a character that you don't give High Insight to, you have to see that he is a very difficult person to navigate. Especially a Lawful Good Cleric of Ilmater who's life purpose is to help and alleviate suffering.

She feels called to him because of his suffering and she *does* have faith she can help, but that faith is majorly BLIND right now and it hurts to know the man who proved time and time again that he isn't trustworthy just confessed his love by explaining that he has been extra untrustworthy

Not only at that point is this some sort of weird projection thing they've got going on, but it also make it clear how little they know or really care about Chayanne. bc Chayanne does need emotional support, and I feel like ANY q!tubbo knows that Chayanne AIN'T getting that from him. he gets to just chill with Tubbo, sure, but to say Tubbo should basically replace Phil shows a complete lack of understanding Chayanne and the entirety of the Death family. it just feels really.... ick

I’m trying to hold out for the next one to see if I’m actually going to like it. I rated the first one a 3/5 just to be like… idk fair?

We started off with some mischaracterization of Bobbi, who we have been begging to see for a minute so it was disappointing.

But then we were informed that Clint and Bobbi had been seeing each other and that it was going pretty great!

But then they get the backstory for Clint and Nat a bit jumbled with the costumes because Clint had his costume before he even met Nat.

This is him literally meeting her for the first time in the Hawkeye fit. So it’s like… the author didn’t even bother to read their first appearance but was handed their 60 year celebration comic??

Then I mean we meet Clint and he is competent enough to be holding plenty of people trying to kill him off and we do get representation of his deafness again, thank you for not ignoring that… but now… he is a murderer?

And listen this has been a back and forth line Marvel has been pushing for a minute. They like to test Clint’s morals and he has had some moments where he has said and done things out of anger because he is hot headed and he can be a violent guy (I suspend belief for comics and truthfully people survive weird things in comics so shooting people in the eye, cause ppl can survive that, and aircraft blow ups in the background don’t count in my mind) But outright murder? Mmmm canonically he has killed two people. One was an accident, Egghead, which is repeatedly confirmed by his team members and the other was Bruce (which YIKES that was ROUGH. Could you imagine an old team member coming to you like “hey I know you’re really against murder but I need you to murder me if the big green guy shows up cause he is dangerous and might kill other people xoxo”)

But here’s my big worry. Marvel benefits from Clint becoming an assassin of sorts, let’s be realistic. It was canonized in the MCU and in Ultimates. It would make them seem.. less like a liar for how they portrayed his character in the MCU if they did let him start murdering and we KNOW how marvel loves the MCU synergy concept and Marvel also knows 616 Hawkeye is 10x more popular with the fans than ultimates (which is who they originally based him off of)… so DESPITE the multiple times he has canonically spoken out against murder.. he commits political assassination??? Idk like an anon on here said, sometimes comic writers mess with us so to be patient and wait to see what the next comic said especially since it was at the very end of the comic that he admitted to the murder. So maybe? It was a trick of the words? And he didn’t actually throw his morals out the window for some… mini series..

I feel bad bc I know some people have been waiting on an update. I have been working on it slowly but I sometimes get insecure with my stories and feel like I’ve taken on too much. Like I know I left y’all on a big cliff hanger and I still really wanna finish the story as a whole but sometimes I’m like “is this stupid? Too melodramatic? Are people gonna be disappointed with the ending?”

I did need a break after writing over 80k words for this story but I never intended on it being this long. It’s also hard bc gege hates us and has barely given us anymore higu in over a year now 😭 it goes back to my insecurities cuz what if we learn more about him in the manga and I completely mischaracterized him? Idk I just get in my head too often. BUT I do have about 10k words down for this chapter already (it’s probably gonna be close to 20 by the end😩) but since you’ve been so patient and kind I will add a snippet of the beginning of chapter 11 here. Tw: physical assault, guns, kidnapping

The sound of your rapid pulse was drumming in your ears, nearly drowning out all your other senses until the phone in the stranger's hand rang again. He groaned before leaning over to press the button on the door handle right beside you, the tinted window rolling down to reveal the city streets. They were completely desolate at this hour, giving the man across from you the perfect opportunity to chuck the phone out the window without any hesitation. The vehicle was moving too fast for you to hear it, but based on the sheer power he put behind his throw, you knew that the phone was as good as gone. Watching him rolling up the window right after felt like your last tie to Hiromi being severed - along with your freedom.

You could’ve tried screaming while the window was open, but there was no point when Toji was casually holding a gun behind your head. Instead of pressing the end of the barrel against you like he had in the parking lot behind the temple, he leaned back in his seat lazily with an arm outstretched over the bench seat, the gun resting somewhere close behind your head. He couldn’t be bothered putting up a defense towards you, that's how weak you were to him.

And he wasn’t necessarily wrong. Like many other women, you’ve imagined before what you would do in tense situations like this. You always thought that you’d might be braver, fighting till the bitter end in hopes of making it out alive. But it was easy to feel a sense of control when it was only ever a fantasy. Here in the real world, you knew that any fight you put up would probably come back to you tenfold. They haven't hurt you yet, but that only made you more nervous for what's to come.

“Switch seats with me.”

The man across from you was speaking to Toji, and the taller man stood as far as the vehicle's roof would let him before the other man slipped in his place. Now he was right beside you, much closer than Toji had been. And though you couldn’t see him brandishing a weapon like his now seated partner was, that didn’t mean you weren’t any less terrified of him. You pressed your back up against the car door as you looked him up and down with frightened eyes. In the absence of words that couldn’t escape your dry throat, you used your body language to signal to him to not come any closer. Yet something to that lit a fire behind his eyes, like he had spotted a long awaited prey he was hunting for sport.

All the sudden he grabbed your face roughly in one hand, pulling it forward till your hands had to grip the leather seat between you just so you wouldn’t fall over. He turned your face from side to side, inspecting you closely. Any attempt to pull away from his grasp only made his grip grow tighter. He only let go after he squeezed your cheeks together till your lips were scrunched up, chuckling deeply at how humiliated you looked. It was so dehumanizing that you didn’t even want to give him the satisfaction of another reaction, returning his sharp grin with a blank stare. That seemed to only amuse him more, a laugh falling from his lips as he said, “Oh you’re fun, aren’t you?”

From this up close, you could see the ink lines traced all over his face. They gave him an even scarier disposition, but there was also something familiar about him. It was hard to tell what shade his hair truly was under the car’s dim interior lights, but flashes of streetlamps showed shades of dusty rose over a dark undercut. Either than that, everything about this man was new to you. You tried to think back if maybe he was a client of Hiromi’s in the past, but nothing came to light. He had a smaller stature than Toji but was far from frail. You could see the outlines of his veins beneath his skin from where the sleeves of his dress shirt were rolled up. But before you could look at him any further, the car pulled up to the front of a tall gate. It seemed to border some kind of private property, and your anxiety only got worse as you watched the gates close behind you once the car drove past a group of security guards operating the gate.

When it finally came to a stop, it was within seconds that the door opened up beside you and you were greeted with the sight of an unfriendly face that belonged to what had to be another one of this guy's henchmen. Without a single word, he grabbed you roughly by your forearm and yanked you out of the car so hard that you nearly fell on your knees. He pulled you up before they could hit the ground, but you winced as a shooting pain went up your arm, his blunt nails digging into your flesh. You turned your head back to shoot him a look from over your shoulder, but just when you had, you felt the man’s hand slip away as a loud thud sound could be heard against the side of the car. Your eyes widened as you turned to see the tattooed man holding up the offender by the neck, his elbow digging into his jugular. The man gave desperate apologies through thick coughs, but that was all ignored as the other said, “Remind me when I said you could touch her?”

The man was incapable of responding, gargling getting progressively worse as his face turned bright red. Though you hadn’t appreciated what he’d done, you didn’t want anyone to get hurt because of you. Finally finding your voice, you were about to speak up when a large form stood between you and the two men, nearly obstructing your entire view.

“It’s nearly daybreak. We should get her inside.”

It was Toji, and though his back was turned to you, you got the sense that he was trying to diffuse the situation. Though you couldn’t see his face from where you were standing, the angry man loosened his grip just enough for the man’s feet to touch the ground again. Without ever taking his eyes off the man - who was now taking in gulps of precious air - he addressed Toji in a hauntingly apathetic tone, “You know where to take her.”

And with that, you were being escorted by your once friendly acquaintance towards a large building. You didn’t want to follow him per se, but you also didn’t want to be near this maniac any longer. It was still dark out, but even now you could tell that this place was massive. The bordering gates that surrounded the place were so long that they disappeared past your line of sight. Not knowing what was inside the house felt almost as intimidating as not knowing what lay outside. How big was this place exactly? Were all the fences spiked? Did your capture own all of it? These thoughts and more flooded your brain at lightning speed till they were interrupted by the sounds of fists meeting flesh.

oh, man. my take on this is a little different from most. starts out like i have a certain position, but prepare yourself.

buffy/giles is so divorced from canon! the story itself took so many steps to remove the possibility of buffy and giles ever becoming a romantic relationship -- the Six Inch Rule is often cited in a lot of b/g fics (yes i read them. i read everything.) and it's very very clear that the show has placed giles in a paternal role. a lot of the b/g ship arguments seem to suggest that giles doesn't actually want to be buffy's dad, but i think that omits the rest of that sentence -- giles doesn't want to be buffy's dad because he feels like a good dad would not be sending their kid out to die, and he believes that the ultimate act of paternal devotion is to Not Be Buffy's Dad. and buffy herself CLEARLY wants giles to be her dad! this is a point of contention between them!

i have read some b/g fic because i am always curious, and the bulk of the fic that i HAVE read just absolutely refuses to engage with the canon messaging, instead choosing to say "all of the rest of you are reading canon wrong, giles and buffy have never had a father/daughter connection, and there's always been romantic potential here." i find this incredibly boring. i think that any exploration of buffy/giles HAS to incorporate that, at one point, she saw him as her dad, and HAS to explore how those feelings changed + the weirdness/messiness of this entire dynamic in the first place.

i am not gonna be one of those people who pearl-clutches -- buffy/giles is a long-established part of this fandom and i do not think that it does us any favors to pretend that they didn't build so much of the incredible giles content/infrastructure that's out there! even if it's not my thing, i can respect it. but part of the reason it's not my thing is bc i do not see a lot of it that actually engages with canon. much of it intensely mischaracterizes buffy AND presents giles as the Perfect Man Who Is Perfect, which, again, soooo not interesting to me. write some weird shit where the daddy issues are addressed instead of shaken off and shoved into a closet! that is literally what fanfiction is for!!!

jenny/cordelia:

iiiiiii can't see it. they're way too similar. i've read a couple of fics where cordelia has a crush on jenny but honestly just cannot buy it. i think cordelia wants to BE jenny (cool confident assertive lady with a geek ass little boyfriend, is not bothered by what people will think of her for dating said geek ass little boyfriend) which is a little different.

angel/cordelia:

14 year old celia will never not be crying about them. neither will 22 year old celia. the most perfect thing to ever exist. they invented friends to lovers. i truly think there's nothing like them in the entire buffyverse -- the people that they start out as are so fundamentally incompatible, and then the people they grow into through heartbreak and supernatural situations become SO ENTWINED!!! i love the idea of a second, enduring love that you grow into -- something that is not fated. of all the couples in the buffyverse, they're the ones who are actually, canonically best friends who enjoy each other's company w/ the love stuff blooming FROM THAT, and that will never not kill me.

spike/anya:

hot in the short term/for a fwb situation, but i think they probably work best as friends. i don't really have anything to justify this position, Simply Vibes.

i am totally ambivalent. i understand that it happened in the comics, but it's so hard to look at them and imagine it when he's such a big brother to her in canon! on principle, though, i respect the idea of the dynamic shifting as she gets older, because i love the narrative notion of relationships evolving and changing shape as time goes on -- i actually really love this one fic i read where she's obsessed with this idea of becoming a Cool College Student and wooing him with her new attractiveness, and it doesn't SEEM to work (she even brings it up to him and goes "haha wasn't this so funny and stupid of me to think it could happen?") but there's a suggestion that his perspective on her might be gradually changing.

people hate kennedy so much and that makes me love this more. out of spite. 1) this was so clearly not a long-term thing, and 2) this becomes so fun to watch if you look at kennedy as Baby Jenny & recognize the subsequent implications of this.

Not enough of them: Maybe this is just a personal gripe but I feel like Jamil content has been kind of...lacking after book 4. Does that make sense? I was somewhat hoping to see more of him in Book 5, following the trend up until then that the main focus characters of the previous book would have a big hand in the unfolding plot of the next one. There was a little of that in book 5, but not enough for my liking.

Free space: Jamil is actually my second favorite twst character after Vil. But because the conflict of book 4 is more obvious and not as nuance-heavy, I don't see Jamil subjected to as much mischaracterization as Vil. So I don't have to fight for my life every day defending him from bullshit takes. lol But I still think he's an incredible character, very beautiful and I really want to learn more about him!

Why do people hate them: Pretty self-explanatory. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just playing a different version of twst from most of the fandom because how can people see Vil and the things he does and still think he's shallow, petty, racist, classist, or has a mean girl attitude. Like, how is it that so many people have failed at critical thought? It's beyond my understanding and it probably wouldn't bother me so much if Vil wasn't the only twst character being hated on to this degree.

Everyone is wrong about them except for me: LOL, well in my defense, I admit I spent A LOT of time thinking about his character for writing purposes but also in general. But there are some things about Vil that I feel even other fans don't always pick up on. But I'm also aware that some of my thoughts are in the minority so I don't really talk abt them a lot.

Just like me fr: I don't think I'm as harsh but one of the things about that really resonated with me is how similar a lot of our experiences are. It's one of the reasons why I am so defensive of him.

They would hate me but idc: Okay, I can't say for certain if Vil would hate me but there are some things about me he'd definitely take issue with. I'm kind of disorganized and messy, especially when I'm depressed. I'm working on being better about that but Vil would absolutely dig into my ass about it and probably make me cry. 😅

FIRST, I just got moots. My first one was Krash (guys go follow him NOW.) I didn’t really write anything as first and I just kinda floated around tumblr UNTILL Krash gave me my first post to write!!!!!

He kinda helped me get my writing journey started! My first write wasn’t as best, but the more I wrote the more I got better! I make my writing so detailed because I get detailed requests.

And tbh I relate to the motivation you have.. cuz me too dude!! I just don’t like to rush myself or be rushed. But sometimes I just push through and it isn’t always the best since my writing gets sloppy.. but I don’t like to take too long and keep the person who requested waiting so long!

BUTT my motivation gets the best at night, when I’m watching something or just laying down. I just enjoy being in a quiet environment.

AND YESSS THE LACK FOR GN AND MALE READER IS SOOO REALLLL!! It would be awesome to write about that, but you can have multiple options and write about fem male and gn!!

But I just like to make my writing detailed because I find it more enjoyable!! It’s best if you get like detailed requests to help with that! I can always be your first request hehehehwhehahaw laughs

So always take your time, don’t make anyone rush you because you don’t owe anything to anyone when it comes to your writing! The more time you take, the more your writing will look at its best!!!

For motivation, whenever you’re feeling like you want to write its best GET UP and write before that motivation runs away from you.

Mischaracterizing is like, sorta hard to avoid since everyone has their own preferences on the characters they love. They all got their own headcanons and allat, AND YK THATS OKAY! That’s how I write Jason Todd and I haven’t been criticized for mischaracterizing yet!!

The way I improved is by reading other peoples works and I’m just like “wow, I want to write like that!” And I just like, try to copy the way they word words and how they write!!!

And this might sound corny, but I honestly improved my writing by listening to music that matches the scenarios, like angst, romance, platonic. That just helps me for some reason..

1. the character everyone gets wrong

i feel like milly is the only character people DON’T mischaracterize to death honestly. meryl Usually isn’t too bad either (although she definitely is the designated “brain cell of the group” in fanon) but vash, wolfwood, and ESPECIALLY knives get the worst treatment.

vash mischaracterization probably bothers me the “least” if only because every canonical iteration of him is wildly different, so if someone is just writing a mishmash of vashes i can tolerate him being contradictory to an Extent. this can still bother me a lot but i can give the benefit of the doubt sometimes.

wolfwood i’ve become extremely picky about and i can’t deal with the Suave Sexy Latino Dom depiction of him anymore it sucks so bad and it’s EVERYWHERE. and knives i just flat out don’t trust anyone with at all because literally no one can be fucking normal about him. so i’m putting him on the shelf.

honestly. razlo. i think it’s really lame people refuse to include him in art/fics that have livio in them. i can understand if it’s a short fic and there just isn’t enough time to have him make an appearance, but i’ve read looooong fics featuring livio that literally don’t even mention him.

i agree that a lot of mischaracterization happens within fan spaces as well. i think bad portrayals, like in boom, which had a shadow with very little depth and an excess of edge, caused a lot of people to "pendulum swing" in the extreme opposite direction by insisting that shadow isn't like that at all—that he's actually very shy and nice and has friends, and all that. and while not all of that is bad, it also means lots of his flaws arent acknowledged. now we see other fans try to push back against that by insisting that hes a COMPLETE asshole, that he was always meant to be and insisting otherwise is woobifying, etc etc. like u said. very little room for middle ground sometimes. i also agree that 06 is a very good representation, and i like it mostly because it feels like a good culmination of the other games' work on his character arc

i also agree that sonic gets hit with the fanon stick really hard over here, i tend to have unpopular opinions about him and so i dont really open my mouth bc i feel like that will ruin peoples fun. shadow seems to be a more divisive character so i feel more comfortable poking fun at ideas i disagree with or stating my opinion, but theres seemingly such a wide "consensus" abt sonic that i feel like i would risk swinging at a hornets nest, even if i dont think anyone who would see it would actually be mean like that :')

Girl same I absolutely despise Ronance and especially Steddie because it's all people talk about. They don't even care really about individual characters and act like that shit is canon. You can't go through the Robin tag because it's all about Ronance it's like Robin as her own character doesn't exist.

I can't even imagine how the Jancy shippers feel because looking through the Nancy tag is like all about how Ronance is the only thing ever despite it doesn't make sense for Nancy's character to throw herself in another relationship. She's a bad gf as it is, like she needs a friend rather than another romatic pairing.

Same with Steddie they barely interacted but yet people go crazy over any pretty white dude near Steve. Most of the time in canon he seemed to be uncomfortable by Eddie's existence and wasn't even sad about his death. Like I get shipping do whatever but it's still kinda annoying that it overtook everything and that the characters seem to be nothing outside their respective ships.

Also especially when Nancy’s sexuality has never actually been confirmed in canon and it’s all been speculations/headcanon. And like the fact that Nancy’s side/feelings/sexuality have been taken into account more than Robin’s who is in canon actually a lesbian it fees weird to me. Like to me it would come out of no where with ronance. So it would just come out of no where when vickie and Robin had those scenes together showing that they like each other in the first place. to me it would be very off putting to just suddenly have ronance when Nancy wants a relationship with Jonathan and when Robin wants a relationship with Vickie. And yep you’re right like Nancy needs a friend instead of romance. Like I remember a time when people were just excited about Nancy having another friend who is a girl. And Robin having a friend who is a girl. Meanwhile now it seems like you can’t go anywhere without ‘but look at them being romantic’ and god does it annoy me.

Also I have mutuals who do like ronance so I don’t mean that I’m judging everyone who loves it. I just mean that it isn’t my cup of tea.

At first I was excited about steddie before season 4 came out and then they only had one scene so I was disappointed but not surprised. Honestly I was hoping for more of a rivalry between them and for the rivalry to actually mean something to Steve’s character. Like now he’s getting upset that Dustin is spending time with another person who he thinks is just so cool so Steve is like ‘well I’m getting replaced so how do I fix this’. And then they kind of just dropped the ball on it. And you’re right they only have one scene together and yet people constantly go crazy about it. Yeah Steve is very uncomfortable with Eddie and I wish they expanded on it a little bit ya know. But I guess it is what it is.
